Good chem teacher. Gen Chem is hard, so dont expect an easy A from any of them. He has hand outs for the chapters, but you will still need to attend to understand it. All test and quiz material is given out in the examples and homework before the actual tests. If you do the work, you can pass this class.

I had him for chem I lab and he was really a great professor. He explained everything really well and always was willing to help the students. My chem I lecture teacher was horrible and without having Professor Cannel there to help fill in the gaps I never would have learned enough to pull off an A in chem I and survive chem II with a B.

Very clear, concise, always willing to help and explain. Has a sense of humor about the class and is very patient. Test material never a surprise, but likes to give pop quizzes. Great teacher overall.

Provides packets to take notes on. They were very helpful. As long as you do the practice problems and the homework he provides and come to class then you'll do good. He tries to make chemistry interesting, take him if you can.

Great professor- teaches the material very thoroughly and clearly. Knows his subject forwards and backwards and is entertaining also.

He is a great teacher. Knows his stuff and as long as you study for his tests you should do well. He is also entertaining and makes learning the subject fun.

You better read that book very well. Before you take any test with him you need to know everything forwards and backwards or you won't do well. We had a lot of people dropping the course. Tests are unbelievably hard. Entertaining...not really!

Very nice and very smart professor. Doesn't mind helping with extra questions on breaks or during office hours. Very clearly explains everything. He used great material (models, movies and experiments) to make chemistry more visual and easier to understand. Tests are hard though. ...but You will learn a great deal from him.

Took his online class, it keeps you busy but he is always willing to help and his tests were not bad if you put in adequate study time. I actually had a lot of fun in his class--he has a halarious dry, nerdy humor. He loves what he does!

Had never taken chemistry before and got an A in his class. I think he explains things very well. No homework except a sheet or two each week due on lab days. You will need to study alot to get good grades on the test. He will give you problems from the book to study that will be just like the ones on the test. I would highly recommend him.

I am taking him this semester and he is awesome. Every time I have a question I can pop by his office and he will be willing to help. It is a half course online and half in class. The lectures are done online so I can go back as many times as I want.

This was the first time I'd taken a class that included organic chem and I thought it would be really hard but thanks to these nifty online lectures I have a 24hr tutor. I usually spend hours in the science center but not this semester! He's really great about answering questions and will review labs before they are submitted. Great professor!

Great teacher. Would highly recommend. Was in the hybrid class-online + 1 hour class + lab. It is not an easy class and I had to put in lots of study hours to get my A. Kevin was very helpful, funny (dry humor)and supportive-if you put in the effort. Clear expectations and explanations. Would take another class from him without any hesitation.

Currently in Kevin's online course. Felt a STRONG need to offer my opinion after reading a few recent ones. Cannell is the BEST! Last semester's Chem 122 did not go well enough B- work). THIS semester have 96% so far! LOVE being able to re-play Kevin's lectures as needed, on my schedule. Would I recommend K.Cannell? WITH NO HESITATION!

I'm in Cannell's online class currently as well as another online class. Kevin's recorded, online is top quality! I took the in-class version last semester, I can make an accurate comparison. His most definitely qualified to teach his subject. BYOT is necessary in other classes. I'm 60% done... and have seen ths 1-2 times...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I took Gen Chem I w/ Dr Cannel in 2008 and he is a fantastic teacher. He is helpful and I learned a ton. His handouts are amazing! In reference to previous posts: Chemistry is a difficult subject and requires extra effort on each student's part to learn. BYOT or what some people call "homework" doesn't stop once you pass this class.

I took this course as a hybrid online course in Fall 2009. He was a fantastic teacher. His online lectures were actualy more helpful than the book at times and he really wants his students to succeed. I would HIGHLY recommend him!

I took Prof. Cannell's course as a hybrid in Spring 2011. I was VERY nervous about taking this class, as chemistry and math are not my strongest subjects. However, Prof. Cannell was great. His online lectures are extremely clear and helpful. He is very eager to help his students, especially those that work for their grade. Good sense of humor.

I took the Hybrid section of Chem, and Cannell's online lectures/packets were always very helpful. I did nearly all encouraged problems from book/online/workbook, but it paid off. He is a REALLY great teacher. Always very friendly in person. He graded & returned things in a timely manner also. If you are interested in Chem, DEFINITELY take w/ him.

Took the hybrid/night class, and he was EXCELLENT!! Very clear and takes you through everything very slowly. Quizzes are a breeze if you study, and tests aren't bad either.

This was a hybrid course. Mr. Cannell was very clear in his expectations. The tests and quizzes are relatively easy IF you take the time to study and utilize the resources available to you (the tutors and Mr. Cannell). I would highly recommend him as a teacher.

Mr. Cannell is an amazing teacher. He knows his stuff. The information is presented in a very concise and clear cut manner and he does a great job of conveying it to students. I took the hybrid class and it was a perfect fit for someone who wants the ease of listening to the lectures at your own pace but the opportunity to interact with your professor. It's not an easy class but he is fair and incredibly open and helpful. Word of warning there is always a quiz, test, lab or something that is due so don't fall behind.

Very awesome teacher Took the half online and half in class. He makes you take several quizzes for each section which are online and all pretty easy and have mulitpule attempts to do them. However you have to study for the test one bad test can drop your grade a whole letter or more!Best teacher by far for Chemistry!

second time i took Chem was with this professor. I wanted an A, and only got a C my first attempt. I must say that he has a passion for teaching chemistry and for the subject in general. Super helpful in labs and his before lab lectures in the version of the class that i took were insanely helpful.

I really loved this teacher, and suggested him to a couple other friends needing to take Chemistry! He's very willing to answer any questions you may have, and answers any emails within a reasonable time. Class was never boring, he makes it a fun class to be in. Would suggest him for anyone!

Professor Cannell was an awesome Chemistry teacher. I missed a lot of lectures due a medical emergency, and Mr. Cannell did everything he could to help me keep up to speed. His lectures are very easy to understand, and he goes at a very nice pace. He's very nice, and even a bit funny! I would definitely take Mr. Cannell again!

His hybrid online principles of chemistry class was great. His online lectures are very clear and easy to understand. If you don't understand something you can always look back over the lecture or ask him for help and he'll explain it 1 on 1. The labs are interesting and as long as you study and show up to class you can get an easy A.

Principles of Chemistry was easy. He printed notes for us, so I never needed the textbook. He made the class fun and completely understandable, even for someone like myself who has had trouble with chemistry in the past. He is always willing to help you out if you have questions.

Mr. Cannell was an overall good teacher. He uploads all of his lectures online, so really you don't even have to show up to class. On the other hand, he takes lab very seriously so show up! None of the labs are too hard and the tests and quizzes aren't too bad if you just pay attention and learn along the way. One downside is there is never E.C.

The textbook for Prof. Cannell's 122 course is optional because he hands out note packets and lectures with them. He's good at answering questions, although sometimes unsure how to answer. He's available by email or in his office frequently. He tells short, funny anecdotes that relate to the material being covered. Overall, I've enjoyed his class.

He uses real life examples often instead of just teaching straight from the book. He understands that there is a lot of material and is available if you need extra help. The tests are not bad if you use the pink book. He also includes practice quizzes at the end of each note packet. Overall a great professor.

I've had the pleasure of being in Prof Cannells hybrid Chem class! The best decision; his power points are straight forward. As long as you watch the videos and fill out your packets you'll do fine. People who've expressed problems in this class because they don't put in the effort and expected classmates to do all the work for answers. MY VOTE YES

Overall, Mr. Cannell is an excellent teacher! I wasn't sure about CHEM, but his instruction makes the content tangible, both through in class lecture and the lab exercises. He has high expectations, but those are attainable as long as you pay attention and don't allow yourself to get behind. I would definitely take another class with him!

If you took chemistry in high school and paid attention, this class is an easy A. Mr. Cannell works through lecture notes as a class, and uploads online lectures. He is kind, caring, and reasonable and truly wants you to succeed.

He is very helpful if you are struggling with material or worried about your grade in this course. This class is difficult so you HAVE to make it to class for lecture and make it to labs or your grade will plummet. Overall, he is great.

His lectures are very clear, and he explains everything. You don't need to buy the book, he's going to give you the chapters unit by unit, which makes it easier and clearer for you.

Super amazing prof in my opinion. The class was really hard for me, but it was chem so that was expected. I was happy with my grade, and he was super helpful! The only thing was that the lectures took a LOT of time to watch and take notes off of. (I had a hard time staying awake to watch them!) Labs were fairly easy though.

He was AWESOME! Chem is super difficult, but he broke up the serious lectures with a bit of comedy. There was a lot of time for discussion and he was very patient with questions. He even sat down with me and discussed career options that I could pursue in chemistry! Chem in general is hard, but he made it a lot easier, and offered tons of help.

I took his hybrid class and his online lectures were very thorough and clear. You need to review the old material, as the lessons build on one another. Professor Cannell is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He does not use a textbook he provides all the information you need for the exams in handouts that you work through with him in class lectures. Chemistry has never been easier! There are no surprises on tests everything you need to know is in the packets

I failed CHEM 124 last semester and got an A this semester in CHEM 122! He totally changed my perspective on chemistry; I hated it going into this class but came out actually liking it. He is very understanding and wants you to succeed/learn. Chemistry is always a difficult class, but he makes it bearable and helps you understand it! 10/10.

Professor Cannell is one of the best professors I've ever taken. Chemistry is a difficult course so obviously you have to put forth time and effort to understand it. Unlike some opinions, I felt like I could ask Cannell any questions and he was very understanding and willing to help.

Took this class in the spring when everything changed to online in the middle of the semester. He had great online lectures ready for us. Very organized. I went to a few of his Zoom sessions only when I needed extra help. I still dont like online classes but he made it work really well.

I took this chem class in Spring of 2020, as everything shifted from in-class to fully online. Dr. Cannell made this transition very easy and was always ready to answer questions. His recorded lectures are extremely thorough, which I appreciated, because chemistry is not my strong suit. Great professor!

If you have to take Chemistry I HIGHLY recommend Professor Cannell!! His class was extremely organized and he makes everything super easy to understand. I struggled with chem in the past but I did really well in this class and actually enjoyed learning the material. Watch the lectures and do the practice problems and the tests will be easy!

I took his online class and it is great! He has extremely clear lectures. He had printouts for the chapters and lectures doesn't have a lot of fluff. He will help you and give you time to explain things that you have trouble on outside of class and has multiple weekly open zoom meetings for students with questions or who need help.

I took Cannell online for chemistry and it was great! The lecture videos made it easy to understand and he provided lots of feedback and material for homework and labs. He gets back to you quickly and is available for tutoring as well. Online classes are hard to teach but he does a great job! Highly recommend.

Seems like your typical weird science teacher, a little quirky but nice. Class is well organized and expectations are very clear.

If you're going to take Chemistry at JCCC this is definitely the professor you should pick. Great lectures, and very supportive outside of class. Does not use the textbook instead uses packets made by the professor, which I think is better. My only regret is that I would have taken this class in person rather than online. Great professor!

I should not have taken Chem, but that was a mistake on my part. I did not need chem just a lab. But I am glad I had Cannell he made the material bearable. I never took chem in high school so this was like my intro to chem, (again not good planning on my part). But he is a nice guy and I had a fun time in the labs. Good class just wish I did better

Professor Cannell provides optional packets to help practice for quizzes and exams and allows you to bring a one-sided note paper with notes for both quizzes and exams.He also rounded my final grade from a 79.8 to an 80 which was nice! Is always available if you need help. At times this class was stressful but thats chemistry for you.

Take Cannell!!! I was nervous to take chem, but Cannell prepares you so well. He creates his own "textbook" for each one of his classes, which includes notes packets, practice problems, and practice exams. The negative reviews were written by students who most likely didn't study. Study and use the resources Cannell gives you!!! You will get an A!!

He does a little skit at the beginning of every video to try and make it more fun and as long as you watch the videos that explain and go through the note packets he gives you, you will pass easily. He gives lots of examples problems, and practice quizzes, and he gives additional help if asked every time. Great response time.

Principles of Chemistry was the first class I had taken in over a decade. I was beyond nervous and felt like a fish out of water. Professor Cannell had amazing lectures and gave us every opportunity to succeed. The only time things got hard was when I procrastinated and felt rushed to learn the material. I would absolutely recommend his class.

Good professor with good lecture notes and very attentive to helping you with questions. The class is overall quite hard and requires a lot of study time, but the materials and help needed were always available, and I enjoyed this class!

he's a professor that is charming and he makes the class easy (to be fair, I have a strength in math so I passed all exams with an average score 98%)! Make sure you pay attention in class and do all the practice problems, practice exams, and work hard! and i guarantee that you will do well in this class! Prof Cannell is very detailed and helpful!
