interesting lectures goes over current events with what you are studying. Must read book for tests . He responds to emails quickly and will stay after class to talk to you about anything.
hes pretty funny and laid back. he teaches in a really simple way so its easy to understand id definitely recommend him.
I do not regret taking this class at all I would suggest anyone to take this class. You actually learn during his lectures and the quizzes are a piece of cake when you pay attention in class. He is funny and isn't a teacher that is always heavy on your case. I would take this class again if i had a choice to.
Not a hard class if you read and pay attention to his lectures. Professor Coakley makes his lectures fun and interesting. He is very knowledgeable about the subject so you will learn a ton. I would highly recommend!
Funny easy going type. Will explain things till he sure you get it. Love to go off the power point and discuss news and questions you have about anything. Ton of interesting information talks about an interesting life but makes it tie to subject.
My favorite teacher thus far! He's easy going but he expects you to do his work. Tests are easy and there aren't too many. He makes the lectures fun! He gives you something to look forward too for the next class !!
A incredible teacher, he makes learning fun. If I could take his class again I would.
I advise you to take this class. It's thought provoking but not brain-busting, the lectures are very interesting and he is very easy going.
Funny laid back love how he makes you feel he is talking just to you.
Use the current edition of the book
Professor Coakley is amazing!!! I wish he was my professor for every subject. He made a subject I'm not really fond of interesting and fun. He's hilarious too! I didn't know how I was gonna make it through a 4hr class, but he made it easy. If you love the subject or not, take him. Tests are either take home, or with book in class.
Best government professor you could ever wish for. Professor Coakley was laid back but he made sure you learned and understood the topic. Most of his tests are either take home or open note and there is only 1 small research paper you have to complete. I am not found of this subject, but he made the class interesting and entertaining.
Usually I hate gov't, but he made the topic interesting by current events and tidbits/facts. He's very understanding if for some reason you cannot come to class or finish an assignment on time. You definitely need to read the book to do well on the tests, but they are open book. Participate in class discussions and read the book and you'll do fine.
Personally not a big fan of government, history, or polysci but he made it bearable. VERY knowledgeable about what he teaches and loves it, has a doctorate in law. Fun discussions about current events. 4 quizzes, easy paper and a final. All quizzes were take home, final is open book. Easy A if you pay attention and read book.
Great professor. Easy government course. You read, you pass. It is very simple.
Coakley makes the subject of Government less boring because he is always cracking jokes and making the class enjoyable. His lectures are based off of PowerPoints and taking notes is recommended. There are about 3 take home quizzes for each couple of chapters and the answers can be found in the textbook. Overall, great teacher.
Coakley is the easiest A. The lectures are a little boring but he allows students have breaks which is good as well. He also is super funny likes to make tons of jokes as well.
Mr. Coakley is a very nice and funny teacher. His grading skills is very helpful. He drops the lowest grade of all the quizzes you take. Final exam very easy!
Professor Coakley is excellent, he is always looking to teach his students well, and he doesnt make the class all about the coursework. Easy A if you show up and do the few assignments he gives
Prof Coakley made a 3 1/2 night class fun and bareable. He jokes around and let students talk and ask questions about not only the work but current events and personal things. He is open and will always tell you about himself good and bad, made him more human. Read text book and do not ask him for his notes or a study guide.
Great Professor If you need to take this class or even better want to, just take him he is great
He is amazing . Very enthused . Very understanding . just do what he says and the A is yours .
he is an easy A but I did not like he's class format... just exams straight from Textbook and he does not give you any feedback for the papers. If you want to learn something than don't take this class because he talks all class but makes it boring and long but it's worth the easy A so it is up to you to decide.
He waited until the last week of class to give a 3-5 page paper, 3 quizzes, and the final. All open book but he should of been more prepared. He also just grades your paper doesn't give any feedback. All quizzes are either take home or open book. Final was open book. Lectures were boring but if you need the class for you major its an easy A.
Professor Coakley is by far the greatest professor I have ever had. He understands that college can be very difficult specially if youre a beginner and he wants to make it easy as possible for you to retain what you need in order to understand his class as also to understand what is going on around you. I will recommend him to anyone. :)
One of the best classes Ive ever taken! Professor Coakley is an enthusiastic teacher and makes sure to keep you informed of current events. All quizzes but one were take home so if you just pay attention to lectures and use your textbook you are practicaly guaranteed an A.
I loved Professor Coakley. He has great stories and it was fun getting to discuss current events. BUT his lectures have nothing to do with his tests. The questions are completely different than what he goes over in PowerPoints or talks about. The tests are open book but you still need to read it. Read the book and youll get an A.
He actually teaches and makes sure you understand the book. Goes over the material thats going to be on the test. Absolutely loved his class
Professor Coakley was by far the best history teacher I have ever had. He was funny during his lectures which really kept everyone awake. Only four things went in as a grade. There are four exams and one paper. Two of the exams were take home exams and very easy. His lectures were just outlines of the books so make sure to read.
Honestly not a huge history fan, so if you're like me i would definitely take him. His tests are take home, you do one group project & those are your grades. If you don't pass theres something wrong with you.
4 assignment 2 take home 2 in class. Drops the lowest grade and a final exam between 3-5 pages I only wrote 2 and still made a 85 on the final exam! Easiest class, great lecture and first 10 mins of class we talked about current events. Pretty cool class and teacher. Would definitely take again!
I had Coakley at FAU but he was pretty cool and made it his business to make sure we were aware of what was going on in the world. He drops your lowest test grade and all test except one were take home tests. for the final exam he did a and lecture emphasized what would be on the test, then immediately after we took an open note, open book exam.
Be up-to-date on current events, he talks about them. Only 4 tests. First test was in person and everyone got low grades. The other tests are online and work with others you to get a perfect score. After each test there is a discussion. He announces the first one once. Drops lowest test score. One paper in end that isn't hard. 10 question final.
Prof. Coakley is cool, the classwork is okay just make sure you don't miss class. Don't take pictures of his slides either, he'll get mad.
Very funny teacher, he made the quizzes all online and final was super easy. Only one paper graded by the TA but he was an easy grader. Definitely would take him again.
He is a great teacher pretty easy, loves joking with the students. I would take him again.
I took this class because all the reviews said it was easy but this semester he changed the textbook. I hate the subject of government already so this class was not good for me at all. I'm a straight A student but I think I'm about to end with a B this semester which is really annoying.
Hes a great professor and explains the subject really well. There are quite a few tests, but theyre all multiple choice and open book/notes. I highly recommend taking his class.
You can get an A in the class but you definitely need to study for each quiz and you need to show up for ever class.
He is into the current events and is super funny. I never liked the government but he made me like it. He is one of my favorite professors. The quizzes are easy as long as you study for them.
Prof Coakley is super chill. Easy A. No homework. Only 4 tests, 1 paper & a final. His class consists of going over current events then lectures the chapter power points. His tests are open book and easy. Just go to class, participate in the current events & youre guaranteed an A.
I highly recommend taking this professor it was an easy pass for me. Especially during the whole transitioning to online period due to the whole covid-19 he really kept us updated and was pretty lenient with how sudden everything was. Especially during the in class lectures he always announce when his tests would be and what not. Cool professor! :)
Professor Coakley is funny and a great professor! He truly cares for his students and wants them to pass. You will not regret taking him!!
He was an awesome professor. Had to take his class online because of COVID and there were 4 quizzes and one 3 page paper and a discussion board. The final was 10 multiple questions. Everything was easy but you will have to read a lot.
Overall his grading criteria is very clear. BUT if you are busy theres lots of reading, about 70 pages weekly (2 chapter out of the book) and given a 30 question quiz (60 minutes timed) which you MUST read the book for. There is also a weekly discussion which is based on government and you respond to two other students comments on the issue.
His class is literally a walk in the park text book not needed
So many extra credit opportunities. Easy and not too time consuming. He is a great professor!
This professor was definitely one of the best. He gives thorough and easily understood lectures. He does not give many assignments or quizzes which is amazing. He gives a term paper with 5 pages and that is the only big assignment. However, the prompt is very easy to answer. EZ.
Amazing professor! He is funny and his lectures are very engaging. During covid 19 his only assignments are weekly discussion boards and chapter quizzes. 5 page paper at the end of the semester. The final is very easy to complete. He offers lots of extra credit. Participation not required but if you want a little help, he expects you to participate
He's super flexible and very conversational. Classes are a little boring but his sidetracked talks are fun. He's willing to boost your grade a couple of points and drops your lowest quiz grade on top of that. Easy A.
Kevin was a great teacher. as long as you're nice to him, your classmates, and you get your work done you won't have any issues taking him. make sure to not miss his tests.
The class was manageable. He's a good prof. just don't expect to earn a 100% on many assignments. He doesn't leave much work either, just a discussion board every week, a quiz every two weeks, and a 5 pg. term paper. Lectures are quite boring, but you dont have to depend on them to pass lol. You NEED the textbook! Read all the pages he assigns!!

I'm so glad I took this class. This was my favorite class. Professor Coakley is AMAZING! At first, I was kind of intimidated due to not knowing anything about government. However, Prof Coakley made me develop a fascination for it. You are going to write weekly discussions, do chapter quizzes (YOU MUST READ THE BOOK), and a 5 pages paper.
Very good professor and a very manageable class. The textbook is actually quite interesting and the chapters are short, so it's not hard to keep up with your readings (which you should do). The discussion posts are not difficult, just be sure to turn them in on time.
Professor Coakley's lectures are a lot of fun and very interesting. He is very relaxed and kind to his students, and gives extra credit. Test were a bit opinionated or possible multiple answers, and you don't see where you go wrong, thats frustrating. However, Mr Coakley is still a great teacher, I wish he had other classes, I would take them!!
Although Professor Coakley is very smart and definitely knows his stuff about politics, I regret taking his class extremely. I was looking forward to seeing both sides of politics as he teaches and goes over current news, but it seems as it is very one-sided. I wish he could be more optimistic for students who agree with w/ other sides of things.
Professor Coakley's class has been my favorite course at Palm Beach State College. His unbiased opinions and thorough knowledge on politics helps me comprehend the material and to form my own political opinions. His lectures, voice-over PowerPoints, and notes will help students become more in-tune with both current and past American politics
I would highly recommend this class to anyone. Professor Coakley is a amazing professor. Tests were easy and discussions were pretty straightforward. If you want to pass, I think this is the Professor that you should consider.
Professor Coakley is a great teacher! He is pretty lecture heavy since not all the topics he touches on are in the book. What he speaks in the lectures are on the quizzes. He makes the class enjoyable with his humor and view points on topics. He isn't biased and allows for a lot of discussion before he starts his lectures, so I would participate!!
Weekly discussions, a quiz for each chapter, midterm, and a 4 page final paper on the electoral college.
Professor is so friendly and understanding. Studying what he said, reading the books could help for tests. He could drop the lowest grade tests and very take care for students.
I picked this class hoping it would be a good one because of all the good ratings but I was wrong. His test/quizzes are really hard but at least he gives more than sufficient time. He is very intimidating and lectures are long and boring! He is somewhat nice at least and he drops your lowest quiz grade. Lots of reading/studying to pass test/quiz.
Overall, good professor. He really is knowledgeable in what he teaches & drops your lowest test grade. One big term paper abt electoral college, but overall a pretty good professor .
He starts the class by discussing current events. If no one brings up a topic then you have a pop quiz. Luckily he liked my class so we never got the quiz. He made me change my perspective on certain topics which I appreciate. We took tests online which helped me a lot to pass. If you have to take the test in person, good luck cause their hard.
Prof coakley is an amazing prof, but things werent as organized as they could be.this class is lecture heavy & tests arent easy, they require you to think & use the txtbk. discussions are easy; make sure u pay attention & participate as he takes account for that. a very fair prof, & I would recomend this class if u are willing to put some work in!
Took this prof for Summer B in 2021! Easiest class I've ever taken-- great lectures that didn't run on for too long, and a very informational textbook! The work was easy, it was mainly discussion boards and quick quizzes that were based on the textbook!
I took this course online, so he wanted us to have our cameras on to make sure we payed attention. His lectures are long and very detailed however he records them and posts them, his test are book heavy. He explains everything detailed and includes day to day examples to the definitions. Just make sure to have the book and pay attention.
Funny and down to earth professor. I took Coakley in person and looked forward to his lectures. We rotated on presenting the assigned chapter ppt presentations. The only other homework was the chapter summaries. The work isn't stressful at all. By working on the presentations/summaries, you easily set yourself up to take his tests/exams. Cake walk!
I really enjoyed professor Coakley's class and I looked forward to his lectures. As long as you show up and listen, you will definitely pass, it's hard to fail his class. All tests and quizzes are open book and if you pay attention, they're super easy! A+ class for sure!
Fully Online: No clear rubric for essays or discussions, never knew why we lost points. Grades harshly. Only 12 assignments. Very unorganized, open-book quiz/exam, they are timed and no lockdown browser. No clear answer when emailing back to us. Class was only stressful when it came to essays, other than that it was an easy class. Read the book.
Professor Coakley is a straight shooter. Just like his NYC roots, he likes the talk and aims to foster discussion in the classroom. He tries to impart inquisitiveness in his students and to care about what is going on in the world. His tests and assignments are also straight forward, but they make you think. I highly recommend Professor Coakley.
I took Professor Coakley for honors, and it was surprisingly easy! We had about four tests, and they were on all the stuff in the textbook, so I'd recommend getting it if you can afford it. We had no papers and about three discussion boards. There was a group project on the chapter he assigned you, but that's it. Easy A 10/10
Prof. Coakley has the best lectures at PBSC by far. The more you participate the better. I was only graded on 7 assignments which can be scary if you're not great at tests. One term paper and super easy. I'd take him again if I could.
You need to be a good test taker for this class. There are few assignments graded so it only depends on how well you do on them. Beware for discussion posts where he can grade harsh if you do the bare minimum. I recommend exceeding over the bare minimum. (Ten sentences post, reply 2 peers 5 sentences. Overall he was ok.
Professor Coakley is very chill. He makes pretty funny side comments. A couple tests (easy) one paper at the end.
at first, i thought i wasn't going to like his method of teaching but i gave him a chance, such a funny teacher who explains well everything. the class was mostly just taking notes and doing a warmup in the beginning and the paper due at the end of the semester. his quizzes and tests are really easy as well!
Took completely online.11 or 12 assignments, I recommend studying and doing very well on the 4 quizzes, midterm, and final, as they will account for the MAJOR grade fluctuations. 4 page term paper at the end. Never gave people a 100 on discussion, highest score was a 95. No need for textbook. Almost ended with a B but got an A thanks to Jesus!!
Never gives full credit on discussions even if you follow all the standards to receive full credit.
No one gets full credit for discussions from Professor Coakley; it doesn't matter how hard they try. The tests are very difficult, and the whole course is stressful. This is the only course I ended up withdrawing from. I regret choosing this course.
Out of every single assignment we've done, I can't get 100% even when I do everything asked. He has a class schedule and never follows it. He also is really bad on the computer. He puts in grades as 0 immediately when posting & takes forever to get your grade up. He lowkey forgets about us online. Discussions have nothing to do with the textbook.
Mr. Coakley is the goat and the best teacher you would want to have. The class is easy, the work Is easy, and he does not take up your time. You are in and out in a flash. Everything he teaches is easy to understand. I would love school more if I had more teachers like him for all my classes.
He's super nice! I'd say take him in person. He can seem a little mean in emails but he's really not. He's from New York sooo yeah. His class is super easy and he's super funny, just attend his classes, listen to the lectures, and there won't even be a need to study. His discussions are great! I have ADD and he had me focused! One final essay.
Coakley is a good speaker, and he encourages discussions or debates in his class. I really didn't like that there were no study guides; quizzes were random and didn't always match the content in the book or lectures since they were subjective. I wouldn't like him as a professor again, but I would hear him give a presentation.
Amazing professor! expect quizzes and a few exams from him. Lots of reading since its a online course but it was a easy class. You have to write a final paper of 1000 words as a "final exam" that's the only thing you have to worry about. Any other than that I would say take him if you want to pass.
I took this class online over the summer and finished with an A. Although attendance is mandatory, you only need to be present for 75% of the lectures. Everything we needed for the quizzes and tests was given to us; it was a very straightforward class. The professor made the lectures enjoyable, and I would definitely take this class again.
Great class! Only by paying attention to his lectures was I able to pass the FCLE on my first attempt. He makes the topics interesting by giving examples and encourages participation. We only had 5 assignments in the whole semester, 2 quizzes and 2 exams, 1 group project, and never got 100, always around 90-93, but it was a fun class! take him
