Cute in the nerdy kind of way BUT lectures are NOT clear and he almost knows too much that in teaching "Chem I" it's hard for him to simplify things so that you can understand. Better off reading from the book and learning that way in this class. BUT very helpful if you come to office hours and ALWAYS open for suggestions.

He is really sweet! It wasnt a difficult class. I love his tests because they asked only the main points of the chapter. He did a good job lecturing but just like any other science class YOU have to put the time into doing tons of practice problems and read the book! If u read beforehand the lectures will make much more sense.

The teacher kind of sucks. While he does have a LOT of stuff for review online, his lectures are horrible. The only reason I got a B is because his exam reviews are very similar to the actual exams.ONLY take if you plan on doing extensive review with the stuff he has online. His haircut is also weird. But he is nice

It was AWFUL. Flipped classroom; the videos are from a decade ago. He should be lecturing instead of handing groupworks and workshops to do. He sees that a bunch of people are dropping chemistry classes so maybe he should find a different way of teaching the students rather than making his morning coffee with a french press during class time.

Flipped classroom. Maybe 10 percent of what is seen on the tests is actually talked about in class. Aleks homework sometimes goes quickly, sometimes will require 20 hours a week. Class is completely self tought, nearly impossible to pass when also taking other difficult classes. A nice guy, would be great for an easier class.

Davies is an ok professor as he uses the flipped classroom style. I mostly used the textbook to understand the content, but just using the textbook was difficult. The in-class assignments were not that useful for exams. If the exams weren't curved, I may not have been able to obtain an A in the class. When he teaches, he can go off-topic sometimes.

The lab for this class wasn't too difficult as it's like any other lab. Being able to use Excel is a must, but he also teaches you if you don't understand. You can ask him for help if stuck on a lab report and he tries to help you as best as he can.

Dr. Davies is a really kind and caring teacher. Most students struggle in chemistry 1, but he was always eager to help them. He does a flipped classroom approach, and some of his explanation are confusing. The homework takes hours. The test are super hard and 75% of your grade. No extra credit. It was a stressful course. I wouldn't take him again.

Professor Davies is very passionate about chemistry he was a very nice, funny and goofy. but this class was the hardest class of my life. it's a flipped classroom so not really any lecturing and the exam grades are basically your class grade. if you fail one, it's really hard to recover. if you're not a good test taker I'd pick someone else

This was the most difficult class of my life, but it was the class I learned the most about chemistry. Dr. Davies is a great professor, but his lectures can be tough. I would highly recommend office hours if you want to take him. He is NOT A EASY A. However, if you want to learn Analytical Chemistry and you have the time, he is good.

Unless you know how to use Excel and I mean use it really well, you will struggle. You have to make Excel sheets to calculate how good your results were and other things, so you need to know Excel. He is helpful if you ask but in class, it is chaotic since there are so many people. However, he is awesome and really cares about students!

For me, his teaching approach was just not working. It is flipped classroom, so get ready to watch lectures on your own. You are only going to class for practice problems. He is super nice and office hours help a lot because he only goes over the problems with the most votes to show the whole class.

Great guy, bad teacher. You have to teach yourself everything. ALEKS will take up at least 15 hours of you week, its awful. He does answer questions if you ask him, but super hard to learn the material. The tests cover things never mentioned in the textbook or his videos. Just be prepared for LOTS of work

Overall one of my favorite professors. Very patient with students who are completely new to chemistry. Loves to tell jokes, and reasonable with homework extensions. I genuinely learned from his class despite the flipped classroom model. (I predominantly read the textbooks, took notes form the homework system, and from questions in class.)

Davies was one of my favorite teachers! Work is done with 5 other people, so it isn't that bad. He honestly loves his job, and you can see that in his teaching. The only issue I have is the endless hours of ALEKS assignments and the fact that its flipped classroom so you have to teach yourself, especially around exam time. Office hours are a must!

With anything related to this class, you are 100% on your own. His tests have no correlation to the material that you teach yourself; he does not lecture at all. His class structure is groupwork (not graded), Q&A, and Workshop (grade). The tests are worth 75% of the final grade. He has videos on Youtube and each chapter is over 1 hr. Hw is on Aleks

He's a nice guy and pretty laid back, but he does a "flipped classroom", which ruined the class for me. He doesn't do lectures, so you have to teach yourself the content by watching videos from 10 years ago. Homework takes HOURS to finish and it's on an extremely frustrating website (ALEKS). Tests are 75% of your grade, but at least they're curved.

Sometimes I sped on the highway on the way to class so I could die before I made it to class. He is a good professor, but he does a reverse classroom thing and advises that you watch lectures that he made when I was in third grade. Take him you like that type of thing.

He is a silly guy. He is very funny but talks a little too much which gave us less time to do the actual lab. Not super hard but there were misconceptions about the material covered on the final (hurricanes cancelled our midterm) and the average was very low. Despite this he did not curve the exam. Other than that I enjoyed the class.

Flipped Classroom approach. Uses ALEKS to try and "practice" problems, but it ends up being a real headache. He's a super sweet guy, but teaching style just wasn't my thing. He has his own videos from 10 years ago with note templates (if you are in his class) which are helpful, but you really need to teach yourself. Read the textbook!

Davies is hands-down the best chemistry professor I've had. His exams have a floor of 50%, which saves your grade if you fumble. His exams adequately prepare you for the ACS final, unlike other professors. Homework is a nightmare, and you'll have to teach yourself a lot, either through his 10+ year old videos or through others. He knows his stuff.

He's a really great guy but i'm not a fan of the way he teaches. The majority of class he either goes over practice problems or gives out worksheets to attempt, no real lecture. If you want to pass you need to teach yourself either by doing the hours of homework or watching his 10 year old videos.
