He's really enthusiastic about teaching this stuff, and he's pretty funny, so he keeps you interested. Just a note: if you plan on going to every class meeting, don't buy the book. Everything on the tests comes from the notes he puts up in class.

Mr Dehne is the reason i love science so much. Dehne is the man take his class if you like to learn science. Steer clear if you are a slacker that likes to just get by. you cant pass this class if you are a slacker

Knows ALOT..but does not convey it well. sometimes hard to understand. Do not miss a class or slack or you fall behind and can't make anything up. jokes are pretty lame. If you are willing to work hard you will learn alot

Dont be afraid to ask questions. He knows his stuff and theres alot of work buti now know a little more about out solar system and the things in the nite sky called stars.

VERY willing to help. TAKE his help if you don't understand. He is AWESOME as a teacher, very energetic not boring! Yes, you do have to study & you can outright ask him "is this on the test?" He'll tell you where to focus. ATTEND CLASS!!

Makes lame jokes, but is aware of it; class is not too difficult, just go to class and take notes. Is always available for help. Enthusiastic and intelligent, incredibly so.

I had Mr. Dehne for both AST111 and AST111L and I have never had a more passionate teacher in my whole life. He LOVES astronomy. As long as you study your notes, attend study sessions and ask questions when needed you'll be in great shape!!!

Definately difficult course. Algebra II very helpful for this class. Very enthusiastic, but sometimes comes across very insensitive. Get's very frustrated when students don't ask for help.

Very intelligent and enthusiastic teacher. Had him for AST111, AST111L, GLG111 and GLG123. He still makes the same jokes, but still enjoys telling them! Attend every class, its hard to make things up. Never be afraid to get extra help, he's always around!

Had him for AST-111, AST-111L, and GLG-123. He's very knowledgeable on all aspects of the classes. Show up to class and do the homework and you'll do fine.

i'm a student at UofM and i had Dehne as a highschool astro teacher back in 2000... i learned more from his highschool class than i did in the UofM intro astro class.. Hilarious man, always said what was on his mind.

Class requires studying, and if you attend every week and study in-class notes, the class is not that bad. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and while it did take some work it wasn't anything too bad. Always willing to help in class or during office hours.

He loves to teach science and it shows. If you want to learn you will want to take Mr. Dehne as a teacher. He expects his students to study outside of class and he is ALWAYS willing to help students understand the material.

Thought the class was fun. If you want to learn and be challenged take Dehne. He is very enthusiastic and loves to teach. I learned alot.

I am taking two of his classes and find Mr. Dehne very interesting. He really enjoys teaching and it shows. You are challenged in his class and its great. I would recommend him to anyone that wants to learn and have fun doing it.

Good teacher. Gives you every bit of info you need to be successful. Look at your notes for a little while before class and the quizzes are easy. Look a little more before tests and its an easy B. Amazing teacher in this subject. Extreemly knowledgable in astronomy. always avaliable if i needed help or clarity on subject. as long as I brought it to him before class. He has high expectations of his students,and rightfully so, those who are complaining likely did not take advantage of office hours,or attend observing sessions. FISH LAKE ROCKS!

Ignore the **** comments. In no way is this instructor negative twords women, I should know I'm female and loved his class. His assignments are difficult, but YOU'RE in college! You will learn an amazing amount of material and many chances for extra credit are given, just take advantage of oberserving - you did take astronomy. FISH LAKE ROCKS!!!

Very knowledgable! He is so enthusiastic about astronomy! I walked away from this class actually wanting to become an astronomy teacher, because he just made it so interesting and exciting! Dehne really has a talent for teaching astronomy and getting you excited about it!

he is kind of rude, he gives a lot of information, and his work is pretty difficult if you dont take a lab with it but if you see him outside of class or after class he is nice and helpful

Kevin is great instrutor. Just read the book and take notes in class, and you should do well. Also, he's very helpful it you don't understand what you're doing, all you have to do is ask. Great teacher, I would recommend.

Kevin is a good teacher. He seem intimidating at first, but once you get used to him, he is great, and fun to joke around with. He is always very enthusiastic about what hes teaching. Be sure to study your notes though, and hes always willing to help you out during his office hours. DON'T BE SCARED OF HIM! He really is a good guy! Awesome teacher.

Great instructor, very knowledgable in the natural sciences. Enjoys the subjects he teaches. Anyone who is intimidated by him should not be, he is one of the rare teachers who actually care about his students.

Dehne is all about physics and science. His jokes are lame.. but he trys to make it fun! He actually does a good job making sure you understand completely! I like his ways of teaching but hated... his tests long and hard!

He was a nice guy who really knew his stuff and was excited to teach it. If he's intimidating, you're just a sissy. His tests were kinda hard to understand but I don't think he did it on purpose.

Very cool professor in astronomy. The extra credit was great to have and the trip to Fish Lake is very cool as well. Definitely recommend this course for the science credits.

Wahoo! This man loves astronomy! He always jokes around in class and gets really excited about things, so it's easy to pay attention. He's also very helpful. I'd love to take another Dehne class!

I don't understand how anyone could say Mr. Dehne is a ****. He's been one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. Math is the bane to my existence, and he patiently helped me through it in both his theory class and lab class. He loves what he does and is enthusiastic about it every single class period.

Dehne is an amazing teacher. Easily one of the biggest Astronomy geeks you will ever meet; it's what he was meant to teach. His class helped me appreciate the subject more than ever and I couldn't imagine taking it with anyone else.

What A bunch of whiners. I just finished my masters degree so I have been in school for a while. This guy remains to this day the best teacher I have ever had. If you want to be challenged and learn a lot this is the spot. If you want your degree with little or no work involved look elsewhere, perhaps fashion design or buisiness management.

Took three of his class (AST lecture and lab and Geology of Great Lakes) and attended Fish Lake and star gazed with students from Central Michigan and others. Learned a lot from the man.

Kevin is a good guy. I ask lots of questions and he does a very good job of answering them. I am a christain who believes in creationism. He did his best to teach things that were offending to my beliefs in a manner that didn't bother me.He did best to talk to me in an adult like manner.

He is an ok teacher. He requires a LOT of you and your time for his assignments and exam reviews. He does tend to teach in a way that you have previous knowledge. For an exam, he will give study guide, but it would take my whole weekend to get it done and then have time to study it. You have to work to get a decent grade.

Dehne is a GREAT teacher. He is full of knowledge and will let you into his crazy AST world. You can tell that he loves what he is doing and wants you to understand and love it too. He is willing to help as long as you ask. Youhave to do some outside class work (to look at the stars) but its fun. I would recommend him!

This class was really difficult for me but I learned so much and really enjoyed it. He tries to make the class interesting and he's quite funny. He will always be one of my favorite college professors. He loves the subject and it shows. I went on the trip and loved it. We played pranks on him for the rest of the semester and he got us back. :)

A lot of negative comments about Kevin, mostly from people, whom I suspect, don't put much effort into their education. Yes, this is an intro course to astronomy, and yes there IS math involved. If you cant handle the math, it's probably because you're in MTH 093. Kevin is a little too boisterous for 8 AM, but by no means degrading or unclear.

He is very enthusiastic nd corny, which helps to wake you up in an 8am class. He has a glow in the dark radioactive symbol shirt. He calls it radioactive man. It helps if you're good at math because there is a lot of algebra involved. Labs are pretty basic, the worst part are the lab reports. Make sure your read the text and take notes.

Pretty difficult class so you must put in effort to be successful. I have never had a better teacher in any college course. He makes the material fun. I will miss going to this class. If you're looking for something entertaining and educational, take this class. Dehne is the best!

Best teacher i have ever had!!! he was amazing. he stayed with me and my friend for about 5 hours helping us before the exam. he was always able to help me if i needed it. so so funny and loves what he does. very easy going. he really knows his stuff. i highly recommend him if you need any of the classes he teaches. i wish i could take him again.

This man is BRILLIANT! I have never had a teacher like him. I've had good teachers before, but he is GREAT! He gets you so interested in the topic no matter what it is! He knows the right way to get anything across to anyone as well. I would recommend him to ANYONE in a heartbeat! Wish he could teach all of my courses! Fun as well!

Hands down the best teacher I have ever had. He legitimately cares about what he does. He makes the subject interesting, he makes you laugh, hes very strict but fair and will 100% help you if you need it. This man is pure awesome, the world needs more teachers like him.

I took Kevin's astronomy lab class a few semesters ago. He was my favorite teacher then and he still is. I received an A in the class, although it is a lot of work. Kevin made class interesting, has a great sense of humor, and was just an all-around great professor. I highly recommend you take his class!

Mr. Dehne Is an amazing professor! I took the class and loved it! He clearly loves what he does and is passionate about teaching others. He is very clear and concise in what he wants from people. If you pay attention and are active in class and observing, and do the homework, you will ace it no problem.

Professor Dehne was an amazing teacher. He was very interested in the subject and had a great sense of humor. He would help me whenever I didn't understand an assignment. The tests were pretty easy if you used the study guides on the website. Quizes were a bit harder but as long as you take notes it shouldn't be too hard.

This class was very fun even if you do not know anything about rocks. Kevin makes it easy, helps, and has a great love of teaching what he knows. The field trip was very enjoyable and I even learned a lot. GREAT TEACHER and would take class over anytime.

Kevin is my favorite teacher of all time! I've taken almost every course he teaches and have loved and learn a lot from all of them! You have to go to class because you have to take notes! I have taken many classes with Kevin and i would highly recommend anyone to take him. He is crystal clear when it comes to the subject. Kevin loves his job and you can definitely tell by the way the student interact with him.

I took Geology of The Pictured Rocks Field trip class and had an amazing time. The trip was beautiful and he was very passionate about what he thought us. The trip was so amazing im taking the Geology of the Great Lakes Trip. Take Kevin if your looking for a semester that has a lot of enjoyment and amazing lectures.

Dehne is a very loud guy, which can be very intimidating at first. He is super funny though, and always incorporates humor into lectures. He's really awesome with a heart a gold. The majority of class time is spent lecturing, with some videos thrown in and the occasional demonstration. The physics section was the hardest part for me.

Show him respect and don't play on your phone all day and this will be the best class you've ever taken. He's hilarious and truly passionate about what he teaches. He changes up the lecture everyday to keep things interesting. Some stuff is difficult but he's totally willing to work with you 1 on 1 if you need the help, don't be afraid to ask.

Love kevin. I have taken so many of his classes because I love the way he teaches. He is so passionate about what he does. I recommend him to everyone. He's like my college dad. Take colored pencils with you to class. He likes to draw pictures pertaining to class and his t shirts always go along with his lecture. Take at least one of his classes:)

GLG 262 is the Geology of the Pictured Rocks field class. Kevin is hilarious, informative, helpful, and understanding. If you know your own limits and can't handle a particular hike, your grade will NOT suffer if you have to sit out! Get the info you missed from others, and you'll do fine. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend this class AND teacher!

I absolutely love Kevin! He is one of my favorite teachers. The class was harder then expected, but I think astronomy is harder then I expected too. I learned to love the subject matter because he made it so interesting to learn about!

One of my favorite professors at Delta so far. First off, don't bother buying the textbook. I managed just fine without it (I'd literally fall asleep every time I tried reading it!) Tests/quizzes are challenging but after the first couple I came to understand his testing style better. if you can, attend observing sessions for extra credit.

Mr. Dehne is VERY passionate about astronomy. He takes participation and attendance serriously, there's no make up test/quiz if you miss that class. He is a little rough around the edges at first, but show that you are sincerely trying and participating in the class, and he is very easy to get along with. Kevin is an amazing guy! It takes a while to get used to his method of teaching, but after the first month, you will love him! He knows what he is talking about. His class is 'righteous stuff'!

Kevin is the best professor I have had at Delta. He was an inspiring teacher, and helped me figure out my major. It definitely helps if you read before class, and he expects it of you. His tests and quizzes are no joke! It's a very fun class to take, even better if you can take it at the planetarium.

Kevin honestly made me want to take up a field in Geology. Its a really great class if you want to learn more about rocks, minerals, volcanoes and earthquakes. Gave a lecture quiz every second class meeting every week and 4 lecture tests throughout the sememster. Labs are easy. I reccomend him!!

Kevin Dehne is one of the best professors I have had at Delta. He is passionate about the subjects he teaches and it shows. He expects college level work, but does an excellent job of explaining what that means and what he is looking for when he grades. If you pay attention in class and get help when you need it, you will do fine.

This guy is very excited about astronomy which is a huge plus! He is a challenging grader so you'll have to work hard to get an A, and just be interested in astronomy! He'll get testy when students aren't answering his pop questions or if they aren't studying but he really just wants his students to learn. Prepare for bad Uranus jokes.

Professor Dehne definitely keeps you busy during the lab classes, but makes it very easy to pass if you put in effort, he also makes star gazing enjoyable.

Not understanding the negative reviews of Kevin. He's a solid dude, has great dad jokes, but he's a tough grader. But this is college. Of course you can't have your phone out. Of course you should be showing up to class. His class is hard, but it's a lot harder when you aren't applying yourself. Tough teacher, but definitely a solid one.

Kevin was my favorite professor this semester. He made learning about astronomy very fun and exciting. He is very strict about some things but it made a better learning environment. Make sure you read the chapters ahead of time because he likes it when you engage in the conversation. :)

I really enjoyed having Kevin as a professor. I took him for both the Astronomy lecture and lab class. You have to understand his humor to really get along with him. Everybody saying that he is "mean" and "yells at the class" doesn't have a good sense of humor because it is all just fun and games. Definitely take notes and study them well.

Pros Mr. Dehne was an excellent class, as long as you showed up to class and took notes of his lectures and slides he presented, you passed the class. The test were a little difficult and the quizzes were easy as long as you reviewed the notes prior to the quiz. Cons If you mess up, he lets you know. Stern when you are wrong, but nothing to worry

Make sure to do the study guide for the unit tests! There are weekly quizzes that you have to study for. He does give at least one extra credit question on quizzes and multiple extra credit questions on tests. His lectures were entertaining and easy to pay attention. He is a really funny guy! You have to work hard for an A, but it is possible!

Professor Dehne was great. I enjoyed his class and his humor made the class more enjoyable. His class is very lecture heavy so TAKE DETAILED NOTES and STUDY. There is a quiz every week and a lab as well the opposite day for 20 pts (if you have a two-day-a-week class.) Overall, I enjoyed Dehne and recommend him!

I absolutely love Professor Dehne, he genuinely cares about his students. Also, there are so many extra credit opportunities, I ended up with 35 extra credit points! His tests and quizzes are difficult, but you will do fine If you study. He did several fun demonstrations. However, he is very lecture heavy, and you need to make sure you take notes.

I enjoyed Mr. Dehne. He's a bit old school and makes you calculate your grade on paper the old-fashioned way, but overall, he's a great teacher. Just make sure you go to class and study the terms. I went on to take 3 more classes from him, and it was one of the best experiences I had at Delta.

Well written syllabus that will tell you when pretty much every assignment, quiz, and test is happening. Don't be scared to ask him questions. However, I wouldn't take this class if your looking for an easy way to get a science credit and not actually interested in the content. Be prepared to read, study, and take notes a lot.

Professor Dehne runs a challenging but rewarding class. Attending lectures and taking detailed notes are a must. While tests are tough, there are plenty of extra credit opportunities. I found unstuck ai helpful for study prep alongside the textbook.
