The point of the class is to learn about French culture. Dr. Elstob does this by bringing in films, photo slides, food, and a wealth of understanding. It may not be the easiest course you've ever had, but it is one of the few that you will actually use.

Wonderful teacher. Nice guy, flexible, easy-going, makes classes fun, ineresting, and useful. 120 is not easy, but not too difficult. It is online, so you need to be independent and self-motivated, otherwise you struggle, like me. But he cut me slack and I got a B, so no harm done. But great teacher, fun classes.

By far and away the best professor in the French department. I had Prof. Elstob for 2B and then advanced grammar, french civilization, and now advanced conversation. Despite having lots of assignments, the actually difficulty varies from really easy to really hard, it all depends on the class. Participation in his classes is key...don't be shy! He also cares about each and every single student that walks through his office door. If you haven't had him...take him!

Very nice and fun. I loved him but the class was a bit chaotic, as in he didn't follow the book at all, he lectured in class in a random way. I personally like it when the teacher sticks to the book when it comes to learning a different language because I ended up being a bit lost...but he is an excellent teacher. Very nice and caring.

Took Fall 2020 & Asynchronous. Literally you watch 1 foreign film every week & our weekly modules consisted of 1 discussion post, 1 journal, and 2 (VERY EASY) quizzes. We did have a midterm and final but were very simple to complete. Only drawback is he doesn't give feedback so you don't necessarily know what you're doing wrong as he takes off pts.

I took this class during the pandemic. His modules are time consuming because they take at least 2 hours. One of the modules took me 5 hours. And the modules consist of watching 10 - 20 YouTube videos, and the many many quizzes are based on the irrelevant YouTube videos. He doesn't post one lecture. VERY VERY TIME CONSUMING FOR STEM MAJOR

Professor Elstob is extremely specific in what he asks for each week. You will have a pre-screening quiz (in which he gives u a study guide with all the questions before) and then a quiz with a study guide as well. Then you will have a journal entry and a discussion post. NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE DIFFICULT. Thankful for this class!

Dr. Elstob is interesting. He does not seem approachable, but he definitely is. Half of the time he seems bored, which is a huge downer on morale. He definitely knows his stuff which is reassuring. This class was super easy. So easy that I missed assignments because I didn't think we had anything. Take this class for fun, filler.

this class is VERY time consuming. you have to take a prequiz yet must read/watch something to take it, then watch a movie, take a quiz for that movie, 4-5 question journal, then 4-5 question discussion & reply to 2 students. it was too much for a GE class and a handful of the movies were not inspirational/interesting. easiest A for a GE though.

Assignments take a bit of time, can take up to 4 hours. "Bigger" projects are rather easy and an opportunity for students to have fun and relate it to their own interests. Late work is accepted for full credit. Very easy-going grader. Will answer any questions. TLDR; very chill, just set some time aside at the end of the week. Take him! :)

Took this asynch, a decent amount of material every week-you do need to spend some time on it. Discussion posts and replies required, which sucks when everybody waits til the last day to post. Was a random UD GE for me, but was pretty interesting! He gives EC for thorough responses on assignments, ended w/ 102% in the class, so not hard if you try.

Took this class async, was a typical "Do XYZ by end of week". He can be sometimes unclear with instructions and rubrics, but overall a caring professor, and easy grading as long as you put the work into it.

There's a reason he had open seats after the semester started. At least twice a week, you'll be doing so much writing that it's like writing an essay. Every week, there's an hour of lecture materials, excluding the textbook. Discussion and 2 quizzes each week. If you're looking for an easy class to fulfill a GE requirement, look elsewhere.

Very unclear assignments. Frequently, a short answer question will initially say you need "4-6 sentences" and then it'll say "8-10 sentences". Quizzes are 10-20 questions each, and at least 70% of them are short answer. With discussions and quizzes, there's too much writing! You also have 3 finals, all of which involve writing essays.

This class is too much effort for a lousy 3 units. 3-5 hours of lecture materials crammed into cluttered weekly modules with 2-3 lengthy, poorly explained written quizzes each week; 2 final papers (750 words each) and a final written exam. The amount of work is more than a writing intensive class. I know this because I'm currently enrolled in one.

He's not a bad guy, but only pick this class if nothing better is available. Weekly quizzes aren't timed and can even be turned in late for full credit. This is one of the most grueling UD classes I've ever taken. This isn't like one of those classes you can forget about until the weekend and finish all the assignments in under 2 hours. You also have to write two essays at the end of the semester, one about traveling to France and one about experiencing the culture. Ugh.
