I am currently sitting in kevins class making this profile for him because he is such an amazing instructor. I previously had zero interest in calculus and am now considering switching my major from business to mathematics. Has a great sense of humor and also is very helpful.
He gives directions very clearly and i can totally understand all the is expected of us. The homework is very manageable, and he explains everything sooo clearly! If you have a question, He makes you feel very comfortable in asking, and doesnt mind going over homework problems until you get it. Great teacher,I highly recommend you take his class!
Greatest Math Professor ever and he's hilarious!
Professor Gibbs is hilarious. Great teacher. He explains everything very in depth. Always willing to help those who dont understand. Very knowledgable about subject. Math 1180 will be a joy if you have professor Gibbs.
Professor Gibbs is the best math teacher i have EVER had! He explains everything very well and is extremely willing to help you! He gives you a study guide before each test, that he goes over in class and explains how to do each problem. The tests are exactly like the study guide. NO surprises. Amazing teacher, highly recommended!
A great teacher! I've had him twice and if I needed any more math I'd take it from him. A lot of people think his math jokes are dumb, but seriously do u want a teacher that puts u 2 sleep? + he actually cares if u do well in class and will do everything he can 2 help u. + he puts all of his lectures on blackboard. but u should still come 2 class.
very good teacher! he's willing to answer anything and will always be available for his office hours which is helpful. the book isnt required but USE IT. all his notes come directly from the book so i just highlighted out of the book and wrote side notes. His two exams are easy as long as u study and dont skip class.
Gibbs is an excellent teacher. I've always had problems with math and have had to withdraw from similar courses at BGSU. However, Gibbs is very clear, very helpful, and his way of teaching is very engaging. I would recommend him for anyone with fears of math, or (like me) have done poorly before. Note: Everything done in this class is on MyMathLab
He was easy, and very helpful. Attendance only 5% of grade
Gibbs is awesome! If you hate math, have a fear of math, or have confidence problems, I HIGHLY recommend him! Very helpful, kind, and non-intimidating way of helping you. Attendance not mandatory, but up to 2% of your final grade can be added to your final grade for near-perfect attedance. All tests, quizzes, and homework is MyMathLab based.
Had him for Business Calc 1 and he was the best! He was really understanding and let you make up tests if you couldn't make it. Really helpful with homework and also on tests. He would pretty much show you how to do the problems on the test. If you do the homework and do ok on the quizzes you will do just fine.
Gibbs is great. he is super helpful and willing to work with you until you understand everything.
Awesome professor!! One of the most helpfull professors I had. If you have a hard time comprehending the material he will help you until you understand it. If you can I would highly recomend his class. Perfect attendence adds 2 percent to your grade at the end of the semester, and if you miss less than ten days you get 1 percent added to your final
Amazing teacher! Super helpful and makes himself available outside of class. Always willing to go over things if you need extra help. As a student who is very bad a math, he made it easy.
Best math professor hands down! He is so helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material!
Gibbs is a great professor! I have his class now and I struggle but he helps and makes things easier to comprehend. He's even created study groups for us. I totally recommend him!
Gibbs is a great professor I HIGHLY recommend taking him. He wants his students to pass. Attendence is not mandatory but extra 2% at the end of semester if you don't miss any days.
Lets you make up quizzes and sometimes he even lets you take them home!!
Loves to see students succeed. If you have trouble he will gladly help.
Professor Gibbs is a really great teacher but be prepared to spend a ridiculous amount of time outside of class doing ALEKS. Its equivalent to taking a math lecture and an online math class at the same time. However, Professor Gibbs is always willing to help with ALEKS or anything else during his office hours. Don't buy the book.
Gibbs is probably the best teacher that I have ever had. Calc II is the hardest class I have ever taken and he made it so simple to understand. It was online but he made himself available for office hours and class was always fun and enjoyable. Would take him over and over again!
Gibbs is great, esp if you are not naturally skilled at math. He is very helpful & will walk you through problems. Highly recommended. It's not easy but definitely not as painful as it could have been thanks to his help. I was impressed with his ability to remember people's names in such large classes, too! He has an amusing wry sense of humor.
I took 1320 last fall & received a d- luckily. Taking it again with Gibbs for a grade deletion. Gibbs is a wonderful professor. He speaks clear, doesn't teach too fast sometimes stayed on a topic for too long but I took it already so could be me. But he's always willing to help & his personality is so bubbly you want to come to class.
Professor Gibbs was extremely helpful in every aspect. I would recommend him to anyone. If math is not your subject, he is the perfect teacher for you!
Great guy! Super nice, very helpful. Used homework assignments from the textbook and only used ALEKS for the first half of semester. Takes attendance.
Greatest Professor I've had here at UT so far. Even with an online math class he was still there to help and will do anything to see his students do well! Very Understanding, don't hesitate to go into his office hours!
I had professor Gibbs for both math 1200 & 1320. I am not very good at math, but I received an A+ in 1200 and a B+ in 1320. 1200 used mylabsplus, which basically made the class be "online", but attendance still counted. Math 1320 had lectures instead, and we used ALEKS for part of the course. If you need help, he is there- so ask questions!
He's a great professor and over all a really great guy. He explains the content really well and made learning math painless. Super easy class as long as you do the homework and study for a few quizzes and tests. The textbook wasn't needed for my class, so that saved me about $200. I highly recommend taking him!
He's AWESOME! Super kind, super helpful and clear, and actually explains WHY things are the way they are which too many math teacher fail to do! Just take it with him, teaching is definitely his calling!
If you do the work and go to classes, there's no way you don't get at least a B+. He's extremely helpful and always willing to help. If you can take a class with him, do it. He does give extra credit, and quizzes are once per week. I'd definitely take a class with him again.
He's average. Lectures are very boring but that class was easy. Group quizzes every other week.
He is a pretty good professor. Uses ALEKS so there's a lot of homework. He gives examples and is very helpful if you ask. Everything on tests is put together in guides to make studying easier, if you even need to study. A lot of the things were the same as my high school algebra 1/2 classes.
Lectures are pretty fast paced if you're not a math whiz, but they are still very informative. Pop quizzes every Friday, but he does let you know ahead of time and tells you what to expect on it. Exams are not impossible, but they really do test you. Class itself is not hard, but ALEKS is. If you have 25+ topics a week, you'll never finish.
Mr. Gibbs was a great professor 10/10 would take again. He helped me out and he's really smart. I hope I can take more of my math classes with him.
He was the best math professor I have ever had! He is always willing to help you outside of class. The material is heavily based on Aleks, but if you do the homework and study for the test, it is an easy A. Attendance is mandatory, he does a sign in sheet at the end of class. He is so sweet and funny! He also gives a lot of extra credit!
Absolutely the best math professor I have ever had. Always so helpful and understanding. Also, there is a lot of work on ALEKS but it is very easy. Just show up for class and take notes, you will do fine.
You WILL spend over 6 hours each week doing homework. So unneccesary because the homework has no relevance to the tests. Pop quizzes about every week so you can't really skip class because you don't know if you will be missing a quiz. Tests can be hard and he grades them extremely hard
Gibbs is very good at explaining math in a way that is easy to understand. He's a nice guy and a great professor. Offered a ton of extra credit. He took attendance every day, so showing up is mandatory. The only downside is that he used ALEKS, so there is a lot of homework. I definitely plan to take his class again if I am able to.
Kevin Gibbs is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very caring and willing to help. You are able to get a 100%on all the homework and at the end of the semester there is a lot of extra credit. The tests are very similar to the practice tests he posts. Would definitely recommend.
I had to take this for my first year. This was the most helpful and friendliest professor I have ever met. He is willing to help students in any way he can, even the ones who were failing. His calm teaching tone and methods were inspiring. I would take his class again, if I could get credit for it.
One of the best professors I have ever had! His lectures, quizzes and tests are all straight forward, and he goes over homework the day before it's due, so if you have any questions he'll work the problem out during class. He also gives 5% extra credit on tests if you go to the LEC or Study Tables . All around a nice and caring person.
Mr. Gibbs is super helpful. All the work is done on Aleks and you are required to spend 5 hrs a week doing homework. The best thing is able to take exams earlier than other students.
Great man. I took him online for calc 2 and my concepts became very strong under his teaching. He is very knowledgeable over mathematics. Would definitely take again.
you will pass his classes as long as you finish the aleks weekly topics
Dr. Gibbs is one of my favorite teachers ever. He wants you to understand the material, and makes the lectures as interesting as possible. He cares for each student, and you can tell he loves teaching. He also responds to emails quickly. I will miss his class so much when this semester is over!
Aleks, is a pain the butt. You do 4 questions per topic and some weeks you have 30+ topics- this is only worth 8% of your grade same with homework. You basically teach yourself because during class he talks about other things like "for when you take calculus". test are worth 45% of your grade so if you do bad your screwed.
Professor Gibbs is a great professor. He has a way of explaining things so well that makes me understand just what he means. He also knows just what you mean when you ask a question. Many times, when I ask a question, the teacher will answer a different question than I asked, but he has a gift of knowing just what you mean. Would recommend.
Gibbs does sometimes do stuff wrong on the board, but its simple stuff and it never goes so far as affecting the lesson. Trig class was easy to understand, and hes always willing to help if you just ask.
Kevin Gibbs is a great math professor. He is clear and concise and he does not make you feel stupid for having questions. He also tells you everything that will be on the test and gives lots of easy extra credit.
Great professor! Only thing I didn't like about his class is that the ALEKS weekly quiz was based on stuff that we hadn't fully covered in class. Also, he quizzed every Thursday on the material you would learn the day of which can be difficult for slow learners. Other than that he was a very good professor, especially for math.
Professor Gibbs is great. I had a D before I took his final (which is 45% of your grade) and I walked out of there with a C. It's not much but I'm grateful that he never shied away from helping his students and he always tells you "you're brilliant!" When you get something right. Very encouraging man! Easy extra credit too!
Great man! He will definitely help anyone who seeks his help. I have never been a math person but he encouraged my to do better. Many students just need encouragement and he will definitely offer it to you. If you are not great at math I recommend this teacher because he is great at explaining things! Words cannot describe how dedicated he is.
Professor Gibbs was one of my favorite teachers my freshman year of college. The class was set up emporium style so you taught yourself all the material through ALEKS but the professor was always there to assist you if you were confused. Great teacher and highly recommend to take for College Algebra & Trigonometry.
Whether its online or in person I recommend taking professor Gibbs, hes a GREAT teacher and he has a way of keeping things interesting. I enjoyed his class.
BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD HANDS DOWN!! Hes extremely nice and cares about his students. My C+ grade is my own fault based on the work I did, not his teaching ability. He is amazing, you wont find a better math teacher!!
Professor Gibbs really did a phenomenal job at explaining the calculus concepts. There was enough homework to give us plenty of practice but not enough to be overwhelming. Come to class. It is very easy to get behind after missing only one day of class. Gibbs really is the best math professor I have had. I HIGHLY recommend.
Mr. Gibbs was by far not only my favorite math professor but my favorite professor at the University. He works really hard to ensure that every student has an understanding and if students struggle then he will do whatever it takes to help them. He knows how to motivate people and make them feel smart. Take this class!!
Professor Gibbs is one of the best math teachers I have ever had! Very helpful and you can tell he loves teaching. There are 6 tests and 1 final exam that make up most of your grade, all of which are very easy. You also get to retake each test once. Aleks is used the whole year, but it is very easy. Easiest A of your whole year!
I recommend him, he is a very awesome teacher. Really easy to understand and also very helpful! 10/10
The class itself is not too bad, but I would recommend taking the 4 day class, rather than the 2 day version. There is a hefty amount of homework and the days fall in a way that you only have 1 real option to visit him during office hours for help. He isn't very willing to give out of class help, unless you you're in the LEC with him.
The class was pretty much self paced so there weren't really lectures. Sometimes he lectured on ALEKS topics that a lot of people had trouble with but you didn't have to pay attention if you didn't want to. If you had a question he answered it clearly. He's also really nice and easy to talk to.
Great professor. As long as you pay attention during lectures you're good to go. He provides 5% EC on the tests if you spend ~4 hours at the LEC. He's always willing to answer questions you have and is really friendly. There will be quizzes but usually he will tell you beforehand or email you.
Professor Gibbs was a good teacher. The class itself was not. It was euphorium style so it's working at your own pace. However, if you ever need help since everything is on ALEKS he isn't very good at giving you the help you need he does a problem for you and then walks away and won't come back.
Excellent professor, I chose to major in Mathematics because of him! His lectures are very informative. Good heavens there are a lot of Aleks topics, but he helps you understand the root of where the concepts came from. Professor Gibbs is the best!
He is a great professor. He is very caring and understandable. I will recommend him to everyone. He is one of my favorite professors that they had at UT. If you want a class that is easy to understand and someone that cares about you take his classes.
The best math professor I've ever had, I've never been great at math and I'm doing great. Hes a very very good teacher. If your taking math whether it be algebra or calculus, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
I took this professor with MATH2450 not 60 there just wasn't an option but this professor was amazing, I truly felt like he cared about me doing well. I will warn you there are quizzes about once a week but they are extremely easy to pass if you pay attention. He is easily one of the best professors I've had at this school
favorite prof so far, like to be involved with students, and a very funny person
favorite prof so far, very involved with students, and a hilarious person.
Warnings if you're taking this class: if you commute, don't bother, the class is everyday and if you miss one day you get no points. If you're bad at tests don't bother, tests are 70% of your grade. The professor can be helpful especially when he gives small lectures but the grading criteria and scaling needs to be changed for a class like this.
If you're coming from high school Im gonna be honest his class felt like a big damn jump. Stay on top of the work and try to complete it all make sure you go to tutoring if you need it and you could get a B. But he sure is a picky test grader so study.
Such a good professor. This class was self-paced, but he will help whenever you need it. You get two attempts at the tests, so that way you know exactly what to study. Just stay on top of the weekly topics, and try to get ahead. It is really not difficult. 6 total tests, and a final comprehensive exam. Study hard for the final!
great dude. Easy material as long as you pay attention and asks questions when needed. Should get an A if you do all of your work. He also lets you take tests twice if you do bad the first time.
One of the best online courses I've taken. Gives engaging lessons, good feedback on homework.
He is kind but persistent, much too often.
As my first professor in math in college I could not have asked for a better experience. He was always extremely helpful and positive throughout the entire semester. No matter what he always gave helpful feedback and helped you get to where you needed to be. he even added extra incentives to get further in his class.
I love Professor Gibbs, he is so kind and understanding. If you have trouble understanding something he will address it in his email or in person. He issues a lot of homework which is NECESSARY to understanding the material. His tests are very reasonably put and his quizzes follow. I wish I can take him again. I enjoyed every lecture.
Dr Gibbs was the best math Professor I have had. If you can take him, You should.
Best math professor I have taken. If you can take him, take him
Loved this professor and he has definitely been one of the best I've had at Toledo so far. His class was a bit too easy for me so I was often bored, but for those who did not understand the material he made it very understandable for. As long as you do the work in ALEKS you will have no problem in this lcss
Mr Gibbs is one of the most caring individuals at the University of Toledo. This class was extremely easy and well thought out. I would 100% recommend Mr. Gibbs over anyone else.
BEST PROFESSOR IN ALL UTOLEDO!
He's always willing to help in class. Always ready to throw a joke out there in the middle of lectures to wake it up some. He's always available for extra help outside of class. He knows his content very well and teaches it clearly and easily.
great professor. if you have the opportunity to take him, take him. He is very caring and understanding. hw due twice a week and he will go over it in class.
Very caring professor! I took his class for trig and even though I didn't do great on the exams, I was able to pass at the end. He's very funny and wants you to succeed.
Professor Gibbs is a great professor in the way he teaches the content thoroughly and is very accessible after hours in the LEC. Make sure you spend the 4 hours in the LEC for each test to get easy 5 bonus points added onto your test score. 100% would take him again.
Really good professor, take him if you can. Explains concepts really well. Quizzes every week, 2 tests and 1 final. Put in the work, study hard and youll do well. Does not have recorded lectures, so go to class. Lots of HW, so be prepared. HW is harder than the actual exam though. Recitation really depends on your TA. Lectures are sometimes boring.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Gibbs for Calculus II. He made the class engaging, which is what made me love the course and made it my favorite math class I have taken. He is a caring, intelligent professor who genuinely wants his students to succeed. Never hesitate to ask him questions or seek help—he is always willing to support his students.
