Hendricks has the best academic plan for teaching Stat. He doesn't just give you homework and checks it in class. He teaches in lectures by taking notes and showing examples on the board. Super generous grader. MyStatLab does most of the hw. Really breaks down Stat in a simple concept. Available for outside help.
Hendricks is a great guy, but in class he wastes an hour talking about nonsense then tries to squeeze in 2 or 3sections for the remaining hour. Then you end up like me trying to teach yourself for a test and not finding any help in your notes. He doesn't answer questions directly, sometimes I just wanna scream at him. I used to love math, until him
I was terrified to take statistics because I heard how hard it was. I passed with a 98%. When he lectures he makes everything extremely clear and gives tons of real life examples. It is a hard concept class but at the end of the lectures he shows you how to do it all in your calculator and it makes it so easy. He is such a great professor.
Great professor. Goes very in depth in the material and always answers questions. He makes the classroom comfortable and is very understanding. I recommend!
Very straightforward lectures. Spends the first half clarifying homework and reviewing the previous day's lecture. Teaches new material during the 2nd half. All homework is done on mystatlab. Class can be self-taught using the notes that he puts on canvas and the examples online. Tests are all written (no multiple choice). Always in a great mood!!
Take him for Stats 1340, he is the only good stats teacher, and will go out of his way to make sure you pass the class. Always in a good mood, and thoroughly goes through any questions you have. Tests are easy if you come to class, which I highly recommend going to every class.
You have to read the textbook if you want to fully understand. Lectures are very long, he loves to talk. Sometimes he stays on one topic or problem too long, and might not cover the other topics well enough. He will review the next class, but only if you tell him there is something you did not understand. He's always in a positive mood.
Great. As long as you try you will pass. He has office hours he urges you to go to all the time if you need help. If you cant make it to his office hours he will schedule something at a different time to help you out. The only thing i would change would be that homework be turned in everyclass not every chapter because its easy to get behind.
He was a nice guy. Very mono-toned. Really bad idea taking him as an 8 am class. Rambles about literally nothing and you will get very lost if you miss one word.
Very nice guy and cares about his students, but not a great teacher. All he did in class was go over some handwritten notes. Pretty much had to teach myself to get an A.
Prof. Hendricks is a really nice guy. I didn't have a problem with him on a personal level. However, his class is extremely difficult if math has never been your strong suit. His lectures consist of him writing notes & you copying them down, but he gives extremely poor explanation. Don't take him if you aren't ready to study and tutor BY YOURSELF.
I loved Prof. Hendricks. He made stats super easy and went into detail for each and every problem. Notes were long, don't expect to get out of class early.
Prof Hendricks is fantastic! Clear expectations, and very accessable outside lecture. Notes are online from day 1. Simplifies book concepts. Tests are difficult and homework is mandatory. Highly recommend Prof. Hendricks. I took Trig and Calculus with him. No surprises. Fast response to questions, and grades returned within 24 hours or less.
This was the first stats class I took and it covered a lot of material, 13 chapters. Hendricks makes stats really fun and enjoyable. He encourages students to attend office hours if they are struggling. I found the exams to be easy, as long as you complete the mystatlab homework. He also offers bonus points on the exams to boost everyone's grade.
I took a couple classes with Prof Hendricks, he taught very well, but statistics i found him to be very unclear with his explantations. I had to teach myself the material. His exams are a little challenging. doing the homework isn't enough, you need to put in a lot of work such as reading the chapters in the book and doing extra ungraded homework.
Awful
He is the sweetest professor Ive ever had. Super nice guy who cares about his students understanding the material and doing well in his course. Do the homework he outlines for you and ask questions. He is more than happy to help you succeed. Also may offer bonus points on exams if the average was low. Take Hendricks!!
Math/Statistics is HARD but Hendricks makes is bearable. TAKE NO ONE ELSE. He's realistic, encouraging and stays on the student's level. Available if you need help. EXTRA CREDIT. Homework online thru My Math Lab. Formula sheets used for all tests. Normal amount of h,w. and difficulty as it IS math after all. Teaches Stats, Math 1000 & more. GREAT!
Wow. TAKE HIM! If I can get an A in this class anyone can. Of course, you have to put in the work. But he was an amazing professor always willing to help and answer questions and would acknowledge your hard work which was nice. I was very nervous for this class but he made it fun!
Hes a great guy, former Navy seal. Wonderful guy constantly shows compassion towards students. Calculus though with him was terrible. 72% of your grade is exams, 18% quizzes, & 10% homework. Exams are very tough & really suck. Quizzes & Homework can be annoying. Half of his stuff you cant find related problems too online. Ok teacher. Bad class.
If you're decent at math you'll pass with flying colors. He is very approachable and friendly. This was first college class and statistics class, and it was a 10/10 experience. I didn't really use the book because he had his own notes on Canvas and just doing the online homework was enough for me to learn the info. I would recommend this class!
Nice guy and all but he does not know how to teach stats he puts up notes and talks everybody is confused worse math professor I've taken doesn't teach much.
Math is usually going to be somewhat difficult and not fun at all. Professor Hendricks understands his students and puts himself in his student's shoes. He cares about his students and gives them opportunities to earn a good grade. Best teacher I have had, although I hate math. Bad reviews come from math difficulties or bad students. Great Prof. !
While Professor Hendricks is not a mean person by any means he is a difficult teacher. I know some who did well in the class but if math has ever been a weak point for you then he is not the professor you need. There are not enough examples done and the overload of online HW does nothing to help you learn. He does not focus on the concepts enough.
He is a great professor! He understands his students and actually cares about their grades. He gives lots of extra credit for exams to help your grade if the average is low. He posts notes online and posts old exams to practice with. If I could I would take him for every math class I would.
Is a nice person and everything but the test are way to hard .I went to tutoring and was studying a lot from outside the classroom and barely passed with a B . The easiest test that i took by him was the final exam. Dont take him if there are easier teachers.
This course is hard. Hendricks does go through the material but he doesn't work out examples with us on the board. The tests are so so unexplainably difficult and worth 70% of the overall grade. The class average for one of our exams was 39%. I had gotten all As in my previous Math courses but these tests are 3x harder than stuff shown in class.
He lectures with pre-made hand-written notes, so this will barely give you time to read/write down what you want. He explains his notes, though, which makes it easier to understand. He wants you to read the book before going to the next class session, I didn't and was fine. He gives A LOT of extra credit on tests, which makes it easy to pass.
hardest exams ever, doesn't go over material on the board, I was lost the whole time
Prof. Hendricks is an above average professor who ensures student success. While his lectures go fast, he is good at explaining and willing to work out any problem asked. His tests are tough, but nothing that doesn't appear in the book. Also gives extra credit worth at least one letter grade. And his tests made the final (35% of grade) seem easy.
He is not a smart professor. Class is boring and he doesn't really know how to teach it well because he confuses us and himself. You will mostly need to learn some stuff on your own.
Get the book. Hendricks will do anything he can to help you understand the material. Do the "optional" bookwork and the exams are easy. He offers a lot of extra credit. Attendance is optional but recommended. His final exam study guide was very similar to the final test. He does talk a lot which doesn't always leave time for many examples though.
I have never left a review before, I probably never will again but when i say calc with hendricks makes me question what exact critera someone has to fit to become a professor should say enough. Going to class wont help, he doesn't teach. Using his notes won't help they don't explain things properly. Good guy, god awful teacher. Stay away.
Professor Hendricks was very nice, but his lectures were not as clear as they should've been for this class. His tests were extremely difficult, but when I took the final (which wasn't written by him) I did way better and actually understood the questions. He does allow a formula sheet during tests. He needed to clarify the calculator functions.
He is a great professor to have. His lectures are very straightforward and helpful. Before class he would review any questions we had regarding the homework. He does not assign too much at once. Just do the work, as in any class, and you will be fine.
Prof. Hendricks was always available when I needed help and would take the time to make sure you understood the answers. Often when I asked a question through WebAssign, he would answer it within 10 minutes, no matter the time of day. That being said, he emphaizes doing the work on your own. Glad to have him for Calc 1, will take him for Calc 2
I agree with all ratings about him being insecure and doesn't really have the fit criteria to become a professor! He just reads through the book and does very few problems on the whiteboard. He is available outside of the class to clarify things to you but guess what he'll make you even more confused. Save your sanity and don't take him!!!!!!!!!!
A fair instructor. If he marks you down on the exam and you show him work that it is right, he will change it for you. He puts easy to average questions on the exams. He wants his students to succeed. That being said, his instruction is suspect. You can tell he knows the material, he just doesnt know how to explain it.
Prof. Hendricks just sits and reads the book for the class and calls it teaching. He provides 1-2 examples in the matter of a 2 hour zoom. The Knewton homework takes too much time and he does not allow calculators on the test. He cannot teach and should not be a professor.
amazing professor, cares for students. sucks at explaining a lot of things. knowledgeable about the material but sometimes goes off on tangents where he is trying to explain it better but ends up confusing the person even more. used knewton alta for hw and exams which i did not like since its adaptive. make sure u practice outside the class or fail
A great teacher, but the lectures can get confusing. He gives extra credit after most tests. Exams and extra credit were proctored by Proctorio. Do all the reviews on Knewton Alta!!!
A very helpful and knowledgeable teacher, but my goodness are the tests not very fair. Scientific calculators are not allowed to be used on any tests and you're forced to rely on a poorly optimized online calculator. Tests are also heavily weighted, so even if you understand the material, faltering on the tests slightly will jeopardize your grade.
Professor Hendrick class is very tuff. If you ask him about extend the quiz. He only do it in medical emergency. Not sure why. Also his class homework doesnt match with practice quiz and also the quiz. I recommend not to take his class.
I do not recommend
Horrible! Dont take this professor. Proctors and times all exams and is so picky about the way camera is angled, etc. Last week of class, he sent an email saying upon submission that we need to show proof of work & work MUST be methods taught in class and other methods will result in point deduction & no guessing too. Lessons are not made by him.
Avoid if possible, he's picky about your camera set up as if you can fix it. He doesn't help although he sees your mistakes on the test due to you being recorded. You can not guess or you will lose points. He will also deduct points from your discussion if he does not like how you responded to other students.
Professor Hendricks makes Calc 2 bearable. One of the few math professors that really cares about the students and their education. Would highly recommend.
I strongly recommend not taking a course with Professor Hendricks. He is a very knowledgeable teacher and can explain in detail the material. Although, he gives a huge amount of homework that holds little to no weight grade wise. Instead a majority of your grade will come from tests. Also he doesn't allow any scientific calculators on tests.
Uses lockdown browser with webcam and microphone active during tests. He also reduces grades when you don't show work. There is also a large amount of homework on Knewton, even If you were to get all questions right. (for those who don't know Knewton adds more total questions that you have to successfully complete when you get one wrong)
Best teacher!!!!! not difficult at all. Literally would take him over and over again
10% weighted grade for homework that can takes handfulls of hours to do especially if you struggle. Lockdown browser is extremely buggy and can really mess up your PC. Knewton and teacher can be inconsistent with presentation of material, especially with notes that he allows you to print for test. Overall confusing, frustrating, and very difficult.
Hes a really good and knowledgeable teacher. I took his class online and hes is picky about the camera set up. Plus his lecture are so hard not to fall asleep too. Barely gives examples in class. Just do the teaching yourself and learn from videos.
This teacher was awful. He know what he is doing but cannot teach it. The class mean was always around a 50% on all test. There is lots of knewton homework which barely helps with your grade. Uses lockdown browser and cares about your camera angle. No scientific calculators for some unknown reason. Must show work on final exam loses points if guess
Ok, so professor Hendricks is a great guy. He really cares about his students, that is true. But what also is true is that Calc 2 with him was extremely difficult. He knows the material well, yes. But he isn't really good at explaining it. The only reason I passed was because of a generous curve on the final exam and videos I watched on youtube.
Extremely difficult class, there were many times I feel I could have failed. HOWEVER he was able to meet with me during office hours pretty much every week and after a boatload of studying I passed by a hairs breadth. He truly does care about the student
Very difficult class. Also doesn't help that he uses lockdown browser which monitors you during tests, and makes your computer laggy. He did okay teaching the material, but it was really hard to understand anything this guy was talking about most of the time. Homework plays a little role in your final grade, and tests are extremely difficult.
Homework (all concepts not a set number of questions) worth 100 points 7-10 per chapter do all of them and grade went up .10% miss one and go from a A to a B just like that. Records with webcam all test. Final in person.
Stay away! He loves to overwhelm his students and set them up for failure. I had to drop off the class because he thinks his class is the only thing you're doing in your life! Lots of homework, 9 tests, and weekly long discussion and preparation!! I'd never even think of taking him again! DON'T REGISTER FOR HIS CLASS!
I took Calc 1 and loved it. He isn't strict and there were test bonus questions available for everyone. He really wants you to succeed and will go over anything you dont understand, even non-calc related. Only downside was that there was a decent amount of knewton-alta homework, but not unbearable and you could probably do fine with not doing some
Hendricks is a very nice and understanding professor. With that being said he can get off track on his lectures (which he admits). Towards the end of the semester, I found myself staying home and using the resources to learn the material. His class is challenging (mainly because of Knewton), but he overrides it with alot of extra credit opportunity
He has no respect for his students lives outside of his class, focused on making it impossible to cheat. I taught myself through youtube and knewton considering it was disorganized often didn't include what would be on the tests. he incapable of instructing students, worst teacher I have endured. it sucks he took my money for this abominable class
Kevin Hendricks is a hard working professor who handles his job in a professional manner. He did an excellent job of making himself available outside of class. Exams were graded promptly and reviewed during the following class. There is a lot of homework, and exams are not easy. However, these two factors are a part of any math class.
Each chapter has a practice quiz that is literally identical to the actual quiz, but different numbers. It is fast-paced and the textbook isn't very helpful, but the practice quiz has an explanation on how to do the problem so it helps to study those. There is no lockdown browser. The whole class is online but the final is in person.
Currently in this class and Im at a B+. The class revolves around you doing your hw, if you do it won't be difficult at all. The tests are created from the hw on knewton alta 1 hw assignment can take VERY long don't let it pile up. I recommend chipping away at it in the span of 2-3 days. If you do the hw and master it you will do good in the class.
THIS IS THE WORST CLASS IVE EVER TAKEN. I have never struggled so much in a math class. His lectures don't cover everything needed. I had to learn most of the material on my own. He goes on random tangents about real and fake numbers. And his exams are HEAVILY weighted and are hard to pass because they are all over the place.
Not always the best teacher and lectures can be boring but if you ask for help outside of class especially if you talk to him in-person he's much better reteaching you one-on-one. He cares about students and it's not super hard to pass but this class is time consuming, do the homework throughout multiple days and try not to skip lots of lectures.
Professor Hendricks is a nice guy but his lectures are very boring. He speaks in a very monotone voice which does not help the already boring lectures. What he teaches does not help the department required tests which in turn gives a bad grade. Be sure to spread out the homework and quizzes because they take a long time to do in one sitting.
My experience with Professor Hendricks was an absolute nightmare. Taking his class was a regrettable decision that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. The man is the epitome of boredom personified and seems to be on a mission to make every student's academic life as miserable as possible. Compared to the other competent professors at Macomb.
he appeared shockingly uneducated and clueless about the subject matter. It's a miracle if he manages to stumble upon the right points that might be tested on, and even then, his delivery is so mind-numbingly monotone that staying awake is a genuine challenge. The man made it clear that he couldn't care less whether you pass or fail.
His class was overly difficult and complicated. He is extremely bad at explaining things and hes Extremely boring. It's a mystery how he's managed to cling to his position, but in my honest opinion, he should be swiftly removed from his teaching duties before more students suffer through the agony of having him as a professor.
I gave this class my everything. I tried my absolute best and I failed. It was a complete waste of time and money, and the teacher was not very good. He was boring, unenthusiastic and bad at his job.
The teacher doesn't seem to know how to do his job, which means you're not able to understand any of the material. The amount of homework in this class is insane. Also, the tests are worth an incredible amount of your grade, and they're hard; most students will drop out within the first part of the class. This is a horrible teacher. Stay away.
Predicting what material he might find worthy of testing was like playing a twisted game of chance, and his disinterest in the success or failure of his students was palpable. Late arrivals were not uncommon, showcasing a blatant disregard for punctuality and a complete lack of consideration for those who bothered to attend on time.
Professor Hendricks was an absolute nightmare to endure. Enrolling in his class turned out to be a decision I regretted from the first day to the last. He embodied the essence of monotony, making each lecture an exercise in staying awake against insurmountable odds. Compared to the other professors at Macomb, he seemed out of touch and unqualified.
Indifference and boredom permeated every inch of his teaching style, leaving us to fend for ourselves in deciphering the course content. It's a perplexing mystery how he manages to hold onto his position. In my candid opinion, swift removal from the teaching roster would spare future students from the agonizing ordeal of enduring his instruction.
Prof. Hendrix is a very nice and understanding teacher. His lectures often got boring and you really have to practice the homework (which there's A LOT of) to do good on the exams. The best part about his class though is that his exams are straight from knewton and he offers VERY generous extra credit after every exam.
Let the reviews speak for themselves. Professor Hendricks teaches a difficult subject in the most boring way possible. I went for help during his office hours, and we only managed to work through 3 problems over the course of 60 minutes. He can't explain things well and tends to over-explain everything in a poor attempt to fix that.
He's super nice but the class is impossible and gives way too much work that isn't explained well. But he chill
Attendance js mandatory. Don't skip the classes. He is great at teaching. So you won't understand anything if you don't attend the classes. The book is bad. He also can give you videos to learn if his lectures are not good enough. Great person
I would recommend you to take him. Very fair, and helpful professor. One of the best I have had for a professor in my mathematics classes.
I would say that my overall experience in Mr. Hendricks class was pretty good. The lectures are mandatory, but he is pretty lenient and understands if you can't make it to class. He also offers extra points for exams and only drops the lowest of 3 out of your final grade (In my class experience). Content heavy, so study regularly. 8/10 experience.
Very difficult course with lots of homework. Tests are challenging and make up 90% of the grade. If you're good at math, you might do well, but expect to spend a lot of time studying. The professor is okay, but if you're taking multiple courses, this class will be a struggle.
He is a great professor and a wonderful person. I enjoyed my time in his class. You shouldn't have any trouble passing as long as you complete the homework. I could have easily earned a higher grade, but I only did the bare minimum due to life struggles, and I still had no issues. DON'T LET THESE OTHER REVIEWS DISCOURAGE YOU.
Don't do it. Please don't take this professor. 10% of the Grade is homework. The rest of the 90% is on Exams, you won't be able to pass if you aren't able to pass random knewton alta written questions on the fly. Would not use videos, this guy is only if you can teach yourself through Knewton Alta. Any explanation is overdone.
He drops the lowest-scoring test, so it gives a boost. Plus, he posts extra credit after each test. Some of the hw is not from his lectures; he excludes them from the test, but because he doesn't make the hw, he can't control them. Very helpful, helps even on weekends via email/Canvas. always offers help to the students
This class is very difficult and requires extensive studying. I made the mistake of taking it online, you buy the book and teach yourself everything. Video lectures would be helpful, or PowerPoints. Your grade really just depends on how long you spend sitting teaching yourself the material based off a crappy book
After chapter 2, I dont think he covered any section that covers the homework. He spends an hour on explaining stuff unrelated. This is a very learn on your own class with Knewton. The class covers chapter 2 to 5 from openstax calc 1. Do not think you can do integration, if you struggle with differentiation. Study the material before signing up.
Makes mistakes constantly, erases the 10 step problem, and moves on. Improvs his lectures because he looks at the textbook like hes never seen it before.Very nice guy, but has no business teaching this class. Final is 30% of your grade, which sucks, but also its all Knewton Alta, he wont do HW problems in class either I asked
So, i've taken my time to review all these students say about him( 5star raters). I'm a straight A student But i promise you, CALCULUS 2. He never solve equations and just tries hard to explain it through his own words and understanding. Makes tons of mistake. You will regret taking this class.
Back to what i was saying, class started with 30-40 students and now it's down to like 15 including me, maybe less. CALCULUS 2 is hard but doable, but this guy makes sure you don't understand it. I stopped going to his class after exam 3, and exam 4 and exam 5, with me teaching myself i got very good grades, still not passing tho for final exam.
Passed this class once i stopped showing up to lecture. He will do a problem and at the end go back to the beginning because he messed up, and would say, "Why did you guys not tell me." Even though its our first time learning it. Be ready to teach yourself. Final is 30% of grade. All tests are knewton based, but he doesn't teach knewton problems
