Kevin is nice but he's a horrible teacher. I guess I can give him the credits of trying but he should NOT be a teacher. He talks about the most useless things like how to write your name on the test and how everything is a candidate for an exam yet he doesn't tell us what. His methods of marking are stupid because theres just never enough info!!
Kevin gave a reasonable effort for his first year of teaching. However, he is actually a hard marker, especially on essays. He wants you to fully understand the whole concept. He told us to study the "big ideas" for the finals yet only chapters after the midterms were tested in detail. Multiple choice quizzes are easy marks! So read the book.
He has like the boring-est lectures ever. He just spends the whole class talking through his powerpoint and sometimes shows some boring videos.Quizzes are REALLY easy, but they are barely even worth any marks. For his midterms, he expects us to know ALL of the terms, which is really hard to memorize. And he is a hard marker. DOnt TAK HIM!
kevin is the best teacher i have had at langara. his knowledge and experience in business and marketing make him a great teacher. he is willing to help you if you need it. easy quizzes. for midterms if you study you will do fine. for most people i know that they think marketing is basic and easy and dont study and that is why they dont do great.
Kevin's is clear about what he expects from his students. Do the reading before class so you're up to date with the material. Looking at the ppt. slides can benefit you alot. Take notes while he's talking and ask questions. Kevin is willing and able to help you with any problems you have with the course. He was an awsome teacher.
soooo nice. class is pretty easy. midterms are alright, easy quizzes. fun class. kvin is amazing and sorta cute tehehe. i would reccommend him.
WORST PROFS in marking. he's good in teaching but when it comes to grading, he is the worst. everything has to be textbook based. can't modify anything. it's marketing for goodness sake!
dude this guy is a good teacher like overall his teaching methods are okay but who taught him how to grade his mid terms are hard u will fail if u miss one tiny little point..He wants everything in fine detail st8 from the text book... Seriously who in the right mind can remember everything from that book?
The most amazing, wonderful, outgoing, funny, cute prof you'll ever have! Would recommend! Quizzes are quite easy, tests are REALLY easy if you jot down the hints he gives out. pure memorization, mc is the only hard part of the exam. tends to give freebie marks for the debatable q's. overall, wants every student to do well. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! :)
Kevin is perhaps the best teacher I have ever had in post-secondary. He has loads of experience in the field and shares many examples in class. He does an excellent job of explaining material and the class all around is well-balanced. A true business teacher who should be taken given the opportunity to do so.
Kevin is a very nice guy but he is an extremely hard marker. Trust me I am not one to be a whiner about marks, I went to EVERY class and did every assignment. This was a 4th year class and I consider myself to be quite prepared. If you want a good challenge and think that your learning but still get a bad mark try it out...
Kevin is an excellent professor and I have recommended him to friends already. He is particularly good in OB, where there is a ton of theory and textbook terminology...his style makes it fun, lighter, more easy to manage, and accessible. Stay on top of your readings and take OB with this guy and it will be smooth sailing.
He expects every word in your exams as detailed as possible like from the book itself. Though he says that he wants to know what you know, in the end when you receive a 20/25, he'll say to you "Eh...it wasn't detailed enough..'So practically, I did't like that. He said he wants to know what you know but in fact, he just wants you to memorize the wh
Teaching is good. Makes class interesting with his previous experience. Like what others said, he is a hard marker and i have experienced it first hand. His exams are tougher than the other OB teacher's. Lets just say....he'll be expecting a lot from you.
Helpful and accomodating but a hard marker. Knows his stuff, well prepared for class. Good teacher, enjoyable class, hard marker
Both Multiple choice and long question on mid-term. The course itself requires memorizing lots of staff. He went through the powerpoint slide during the class. There was a term project on group basis.
Very helpful.
Kevin was an awsome proff. You do have to work hard to get the grade you deserve but he is very very helpful and it really isnt that hard, just need to pay attention in class and you'll do great
One of the best business teachers you'll get. Fun and interest, but you have to work for your grade. Attendance is mandatory and don't be late.
He was pretty good, very passionate about what he is talking about. VERY hard marker!
Best prof i've ever had! Both midterms and final exams are very fair. If you go to all the classes and write down what he focuses on in class and revise that before exams then you'll do well. It is very helpful to skim through the powerpoint and the learning objectives in the textbook before classes.
Kevin is such a great teacher in my opinion! Sit in front of the class, and get him to know who you are. Trust me, it will pay off because you engage more in class which will pay off on tests. He is super funny, and always has interesting classes! Take this teacher!
Used car salesman. Found him phoney. Wonder if he got into teaching because of the economy. Reads everything from powerpoint, textbook, unable to ad lib. Poor quality teaching.
Marketing 1100 The best part of learning from Kevin was the real life examples he would continualy give. These examples helped alot with understanding the aplication of concepts. The quizes and first midterms all from your notes, easy if you actually study. Pay attention to detail on group project. Focus on concept application for final.
Great class. Very different from any class I've ever had at Langara. He emphasized learning skills that would be useful in industry - not just for being a good student. He is a harder marker. But, if you ask lots of questions and attend every class, you'll be fine. I didn't read the textbook and got an A-. Huge workload to keep on top of. Fair test
Kevin is a very friendly person, and his lectures are interesting. Not to mention the example he uses are based off his experinece. Midterms are very fair, however you got to read class notes and TB. Class is not always mandatory, however its best to go attend if you don't read the textbook. Study Guide is useless
DO NOT be late for his classes. Picks favorites. Overall, gives a phony vibe.
KJ is a good speaker and has a lot of experience in the real world. He makes you think everyone is doing great but the fact is your not. Probably the hardest marker I had. Very vague with the description of what he want. For the assignments ask what the questions mean or you will fail. First midterm 15 ppl failed. Good guy but HARD marker.
Kevin is quite entertaining, and has no trouble keeping everyones's attention during lectures. He does a good job of providing examples, and funny anecdotes from his experience. His expectations for projects and exams are quite high, but if you attend class and review the material the class is quite manageable. Overall highly recommended!
Incredible. He motivates you to learn it yourself. You do need to get involved in the classroom and read the text book, but once you commit the time, it is interesting and then the class becomes even more interesting. He is a great speaker and teacher. Very compelling.
He was a very smart marketing prof. If you put the effort in you can easily get a B or above. The material is not hard but you need to put the time in. If you enjoy the topic of marketing you will love his class. He's not a hard marker, he is the man!
Yes, he's nice and can teach. Funny how people say he's easy when half the class is failing lol
I don't understand the hype with Kevin. He's polite and well spoken, but that doesn't help with how his lectures are all over the place. You won't learn anything. Not recommended if you want an achievable B or higher.
WOW, much better than Mcfarlane. TAKE JAMES!!
I had read all the reviews on Kevin prior joining his class this semester. He is not a good prof, he likes to tell too many stories, every lecture is info after info after info. Break is ONLY 5 mins not enough to use the washroom. He gets mad if you're late. He's really straight up. He'll make fun of you infront of the class. DON'T TAKE HIM!
I had this teacher for two classes. He is one of the hardest markers I've ever had. He grades you as if you were in the field for 10 years (he even says that) BUT he doesn't teach you at the same level. At first everyone thinks it will be easy until they receive their first assignment back. Majority of students fail or barely pass.
If you want to get a good final mark, higher than B or B+, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I had review all the chapters, but still get lower than B
This class has a heavy workload regardless of the prof. It's intense. Aside from that, Kevin was a good teacher. He took you through everything you needed to know and was there to support students thru the process during this class. Fairly hard marker, but fair.
He is a nice man. He want students to take notes in class, but his notes are not helpful. His exams are not easy, as well as the assignment. hard marker. but very nice and willing to talk with students!
He is a really approachable man, and also very kind. He tells a lot of personal stories which makes class interesting. His mult choice is tricky. Cares too much about attendance and if you're on the phone. Also picks out people in class
looked forward to every class! Go to class, read the textbook and you can get a B or higher. Very approachable and willing to help. One of the best profs I've had to date.
Amazing. Hilarious. Try to get involved and speak up, it really makes a difference. He is more conceptual and wants to see that you can express yourself and even tells everyone not to stress names or anything too specific because he just wants to see that you understand the ideas. It is an intro course after all. Best prof ever!
Very engaged, a lifetime of relevant experience that he's more than willing to share. Extremely supportive, and wants you to succeed. Will prepare you thoroughly for exams and quizzes. And has an approachable personality, with a great sense of humour.Since my class before his was a snore with Ron Velin,James added some much needed energy to the day
Great prof, very engaging and really wants people to participate in class. His notes are what he bases his exams off so be sure to take them (can also save you a lot of time instead of trying to the read the whole textbook). Never a dull class and he has plenty of experience in the field. dont be shy to speak up.
Great Teacher! As long as you read the summaries at the end of the chapter you will do fine. All tests are based on the summaries, so reading the entire chapter is never necessary.
Amazing teacher! Very fair. Has tons of experience. Never a dull moment in class. You definitely get what you put into this class. Take this class, with this prof.!
Unlike other prof, Kevin cares about his students. A real business guy who loves straight forward teaching. Not the easiest teacher because he sets a high standard for his class, but if you work hard you can do great!
The best teacher I've had at Langara so far. He likes an interactive class, and he's very enthusiastic about marketing. I feel the content was simple - not too hard to pick up, and he's very encouraging. Exams are fair, easy marker, overall I really enjoyed his class. Definitely take his class!
Enthusiastic and easy to learn from. The tests are exactly as he taught.
I enjoyed Kevin as a teacher, he was helpful and was willing to help you out with questions unrelated. Be prepared to work hard, and study he is a hard marker.
EASILY one of the best teachers for MARK. Very clear, enthusiastic, and a super fair teacher. A lot of reading from the textbook is needed to do well. Definitely would recommend him to anyone wanting to take MARK 1115. His classes are always interesting it makes me want to come to class for the first time in my life
I think that Kevin is a very helpful subject matter expert. He loves to share stories, which also happen to be relevant to the course itself. He is genuine in that he tries very hard every day so we can do our best. I think I'll remember this instructor long after I've completed my education.
I wish this teacher actually taught the class and referred to the textbook since that's all he examines on. Instead he just talks about his stories with A.L.I all day everyday. Unless you want to learn about a profs life story instead of the actual course, don't take his class.
He gave us voting options on the layout of the assignment. It was helpful to pick the option where it was split in 2 parts with instructor feedback in between. It was a fun course and it wasn't too difficult. I find myself entertained with curiosity when I do my holiday shopping now. Wanna know what'll be on the exam? Look at notes on the board.
Kevin is an empathetic prof. I think he really cares about his students. He explains everything really clearly. We had review classes prior to our midterms where he would review the format, structure. Kevin doesn't really use the textbook that much, he has his own powerpoint slides. We did need to read our textbooks to do the online quizzes.
I emailed him to go over some important matters regarding my group project and he never emailed me back. I tried again and he basically told me he was at school for the next 45 minutes and I had read his email after he was gone. His lectures are too self-serving and tries too hard to tell us about his personal life. Gets offended if you're smart
Lectures are kinda confusing, you have to dig and focus to see what will be on the midterms. But once you do figure out his test styling (NO MULTIPLE CHOICE) then you can get a good grade.
He is AWESOME.
Kevin is a really engaging and fun instructor. He's a hilarious guy and he loves connecting his relevant life stories to the marketing topics. He's extremely approachable and always willing to help all students. He's a fair marker but you really have to study hard and use the textbook effectively in order to succeed on his exams.
Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. He genuinely cares and takes the time to learn his students names (that says a lot to me). He is very flexible and will take time to talk to you if you ever need help or want to talk about your exam. In summary, he wants you to do well, and gives you REAL life knowledge. Great guy.
Kevin is a really nice guy, he cares a lot about his students. Kevin is always super enthusiastic and loves what he does. It's a big call but I think I Kevin has to be one of the best profs I had since being at Langara. In saying that if your'e after and easy grade he wont give it to you. So be prepared to work.
very inspiring professor. Good jokes and very supportive. Definitely not easy course, but it's worth taking it because you could really learn something and carried it to the outside of classroom and rest of your life. Every class was mind refreshing.
Kevin loves talking about how important he is and how lucky we are to have him as an instructor. How he's a paragon of the business community and should be in industry making millions, but he's slumming at Langara to give back or something. Shut up and teach the material.
Kevin was amazing this last semester and I quickly found his class to be one of the highlights of my week.
inspirational crack jokes
Inspirational, engaging, and caring. Kevin gave students a million opportunities to get involved and improve on their marks. He was also always available and happy to discuss career opportunities and business ideas. Very ethical and well-respected person.
Amazing teacher
He is very professional and experienced. You can tell that he cares about you personally and that he wants you to succeed.
He's alright. Talks about himself a lot. Just don't be late for class. He will call you out on it in front of everybody!
Kevin is a good teacher actually although he often talks about stuffs that are not related to the lecture at all. Well, if you want to pass exams, you have to study yourself. But with team projects he will support you as much as he can.
There is a huge group project with MARK1115 and make sure you get a good group that actually does things. I got stuck with a bad one and didnt get a good grade overall so i have to retake it. Hes very funny and makes the class interesting. he uses white boards alot too. Just read the textbook and dont fall behind and youll be fine.
He is very knowledgeable. He likes to play favorites. Make sure to be on his good side. His memory is poor so make sure your send him emails to document your proof. When you speak to him, no matter how legitimate your reason is, he will still find it disrespectful if you show up to class late or away. Imo he takes that way too personally.
KJ is a real gem. He does an amazing job at teaching and creating a pleasant environment. He uses good real life examples. His above avg humor keeps you engaged. Sees you as an equal. This course is project heavy so form a good group and show progress every week. Pay attention to details. Show up on time, be professional, participate, and have fun!
Kevin is very nice and helpful person. He always motivate everyone. His way of teaching was best . He is the best MARK 1115 instructor.
Kevin has been one of the best experiences I've had at Langara. He loves to make the class funny and enjoyable. He wants students to give feedback so he can improve the class. I have learned many valuable nuggets of knowledge. Come on people, laugh and learn. Why do you guys just sit there with blank expressions. The class is not boring. You are.
Super enjoyable class with Kevin! He is really nice and honestly wants his students to succeed. The tests require an overall understanding of the topics so while there are certain points you must include, there isn't an extremely harsh marking structure on the tests. Would recommend!
Best ever!
Most lectures didn't cover what was in the textbook since there as too much random storytelling. At first he seemed to be really funny but then I noticed that he would talk down to everyone. I never spoke up out of fear of being spoken to like that. Just let him run the show and laugh at the same jokes over and over.
One of the best profs I've had at Langara College. Commited to teaching, professional, and will do the best to help you succeed. Kevin is really upfront about how his class works. If you want to have a knowledgeable and fair professor, he is definitely your choice.
Wanna have fun and enjoy laughing at repetitively boring jokes? Go for him. If you really want to earn grades and better knowledge, do not dare to take him. He is the worst marketing prof in Langara. His lectures are just plain, full of jokes and include nothing from the textbook or exam materials which means you have to prepare by yourself.
Takes forever to mark. We're going into the final with only our midterms graded... that's like 20% of our grade that we know our works....
Such a nice instructor . I can say he is the best . I would highly recommend to international students to take his course. No hard and strict rules. Easy exams. For sure get good grades. So caring and friendly.
2 midterms and a final each worth 15%. Chapter quizzes which are easy. Discussion posts which are pretty much a guarantee 90-95% if you put in less then an hour of work. For the project make sure you pick people you think are hard workers and care. Kevin gives real life examples and is always willing to talk after class about anything. Take him!
Kevin was my first teacher at Langara, he was the best. Very caring about his students, helped me get into the class off of the waitlist. Clear expectations, course work is not too heavy, he speaks from experience which makes the material so much more interesting. Would 100% recommend Kevin!
Quite good ! Pay attention to what he repeats in the class, except for the jokes of course, as it would be in the exams. Your grades would be much better if reading the book and his lectures. Also, he is kind, fast in replying emails, and self-disciplined. So, should not use phones and take off masks while he is speaking.
Kevin really cares about his students unlike any prof I've had so far. However, he is a rather difficult grader, be especially careful with the group project and who is in your team because its worth 30%.
He is Really good and friendly nature.
Terrible grader, terrible lectures. He repeats the same thing everyday, you will learn nothing from his class. Don't take his class. Worst Grader I have seen in my life.
Not sure if this guy still teaches 4200 and 4300, but if he does, avoid him if you have the chance. Extremely degrading attitude and basically acts like the little kid who was bullied for 20 years of his life and now makes up for it by having mad power trips in his classes.
He talks a lot from his personal experience, pushes for a lot of active interactive discussions in classroom and enjoying talking to the students and prefers them to ask questions, share their doubts. I scored B+ because I did not take care of the online assignment very seriously for first two weeks of the class.
Honestly, the best class. Even though the course was very heavy in content, Kevin made everything much easier and is super nice with grading if you show up to class.
Whatever he repeats is always important, he is very transparent about almost all assignments and tests, except discussion posts which are in the weekly schedule on brightspace. He is understanding, reasonable, and kind. Textbook is mandatory because of workbook (10%), 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 team project. He notices his students and who shows up etc
Kevin wants his students to be successful, he gives good feedback and very approachable to his students. It's nice that I was able to take this subject with him. If given the chance, I will take another subject with him.
A professor who cares about his students welfare & will cut you some slack if you reach out to him and tell him about the things that's going on with you.He wants his students to be successful. He gives a constructive criticism that is very detailed and very kind in a way that will not offend you but rather will motivate you to do good in his class
Kevin is very caring, affable and approachable. The program was packed but well-organized. Kevin gave clear instructions and straighforward guidelines. No participation mark, tons of homework on Mindtap every week, 3 discussion posts, one group project, 2 midterm exams and 1 final exam. The e-book, cengage Mindtap, greatly facilitate my learnings.
Kevin may not be the best teacher for marketing, and his lessons were a bit monotonous. On the bright side, he is fairly supportive & friendly, and does not want to fail any students. Mindtap Cengage is a great platform to master marketing concepts and exam technique. The course is in a fast pace & heavy workload.
Kevin is an above average instructor at Langara! Easy to pass but you need to work hard to achieve higher grades. High volume of homework on e-book MindTap (10% only). Clearly, he is not familiar with some topics and chapters. Exams are mixed of MCs (30%) and short questions in a case study (70%). Case is quite long while MCs are straightforward.
He has practical treatment to the course and focuses on the the practical application of the subject to actual world. Aims to make let you master the concepts and not memorize descriptions aimlessly. He respects his students ideas and he is very encouraging. He creates a perfect environment for creativity to thrive. Thats rare!
Amazing prof, would definitely sign up for another one of his classes. He is a respectable man who cares about his student, encouraging everyone to learn and participate in class. Easily one of the best profs at Langara, if you are a first year looking for solid marketing teacher, choose him, he will welcome you in and give you any support you need
He is a great teacher for Introduction to Marketing, he makes sure that you understand the topic. In the start of each class, there's a short summary of the previous lessons which is very helpful if you missed the previous class.
Kevin is great overall best at explaining things by making sure everything is going good for everyone, guiding in best way possible always encourage everyone to make friends and feel comfortable and never put students on spot and you can gain a lot of knowledge with a lot of fun in his class .
Covers most of the important stuff in lectures. But team projects are tough.
Very good professor, understanding and respectful. Great lecture too
Very caring and friendly instructor. Course itself required A LOT of reading and memorization, but he was very clear on what we needed to learn and gave general guidelines on what would be expected on the exams. He gave lots of advice on studying and talked about his previous professional business work experiences.
He is the worst professor ever , he is a racist , I really begged him to correct my simulation marks which I had to do thrice , he said there is a glitch in the system , he did not help me at all , I had the worst experience. He embarrassed me without any reason in front of class , pls don't take him , I will complaint about him in college .
THE WORST PROFFESOR
Kevin is one of the best instructors in Langara, as long as you follow him on courses and do your homework, people who give him bad reviews are because they don't do their work, and Kevin just want to make sure everyone get what they deserve base on the work they done.
This prof was one of my favs at Lang I took Mktg 1115 and he was one of the reasons I was wanted to stay at Lang despite planning to go to UBC. He was assigned our prof liason for our Applied Project but he was so disappointing.1 student in our group lied about the other 3 students performance and he believed the liar and nearly failed other 3.
Professor James is generally well-liked, though his class requires a lot of work. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and use resources like Unstuckstudy for study prep. Grading can be tough, but he cares about student success.
