KJ is a nice teacher but he grades Gwrite 103 papers like this is a our major or something...Class reading and discussion everyday but overall not bad if your looking for a B. Likes to make the class circle around and talk everyday. 4 Papers.
Very nice teacher. Hard grader, but u learn SO MUCH from him- Gives students a lot of time though to write papers. He is a very helpful teacher. Loves students who talk in class, so if you're all gung-ho about voice your opinion, Jefferson will LOVE you!
Great teacher, very willing to help you out or to just talk. Grades hard, yes, but if you know how to write like a college student should be able to, you should have no fears. I gained a lot of confidence in my writing thanks to this class.
I spent 5 hours on a 5 page paper and i got a D-, he grades papers really rough. Class is decent, circle up discussions are interesting.
Great Teacher, really cares about students. 4 papers, easy B if you put in some sort of effort. Classes are just big discussions, so if you like to talk then i recommend this class.
Jefferson is really nice and makes the class at least somewhat interesting but he grades papers really hard. Good class though if you are willing to work and don't mind only a getting B.
He is such a nice and helpful teacher. The class discussions are interesting--and he likes for you to talk. Go to him for help with your papers, it helps you, and he is very willing to do it. Good class..take him, it will help your writing skills.
Very good professor. 4 papers, reading and class discussions. Ready isnt mandatory, but it does help out when writing papers and he likes people who talk in class.
take Jefferson! he's awsome!
This is the best English Teacher I have ever had. He speaks very abstractly so if you are a concrete thinker you may have problems. Most helpful Genius. Best teacher. Take his class. Brilliant Man, reminds me of a "Dead Poets Society"/"empo
Jefferson is SOOOO HARD nicest guy ever but he picks apart the most well writen papers in books, so only imagine what he will do to your essay. Gives you a chance to make things better though which is nice, pretty harsh grader tho.
He is a great teacher and a great guy. He grades papers very harshly, but is willing to help you fix them. Great class, I would recommend taking it.
He is a good guy and great teacher. I hate english, I hate reading, and not a big fan of writing...but i liked the class, I did well in it and people say he grades hard but with ample time aloted for editing there is no excuse for not being able to get atleast a B. I would def recommend him.
He's an awesome teacher. Always willing to give you lots of help on your papers. Don't tough about attendance. Very approachable, friendly guy. I really enjoy his class. He's young and energetic. Definitely reccommend this class!
My favorite teacher so far at JMU. Grades papers kinda hard, but lets you edit them as much as you like. He managed to make a dull class fun with class discussions and material. Just a nice guy. Taking GWRIT? Take Jefferson.
awesome professor! very gentle and understanding... offers a lot of help and is interested in what you think. lets the class do most of the talking, which i like. it wasn't hard... not too much writing-- i HATE writing, but this class really wasn't bad. take him for this class, honestly. it rocks
He's a really really nice guy, but his voice is extremely monotone and puts you to sleep. he brings in weird things to class and expects everyone to discuss but no one does. he grades REALLY hard on his papers, so its very hard to get an A.
One of my favorite professors here. Sooo passionate and kind. He grades papers really hard, but tests and other things aren't bad.
Takes his class too seriously. No attendance policy, but if you show up you'll do much better. Grades papers REALLY hard but allows you to do them over. I got a C and put in no effort, so I'd say take him. Extremely monotone and assigns a lot of Pres. Bush readings, if that means anything to you.
Incredible teacher who really knows his stuff. A heavy reading load and daily quizzes that only count for 10% of your final grade. Take the class if you really want to learn.
I thought this guy was nice at first, but I gotta tell you... he's weird. Hard to track down and a bit spacey. He grades hard and loses papers, but then you suffer for it. I took AP English in high school and did well, but the papers you write for his class have obscure topics and are not fun to write. No attendance policy, but you will get behind.
Jefferson is very pasionate about his teaching. He goes out of his way to help his students suceed. I took both GWRIT and GENG and found both classes to be the most usefull gen-ed's I've taken. Nice guy, great teacher! Take him if you want to learn.
He is a very good teacher. He makes the class go by really fast and doesn't take attendance. He tries to get to know everyone. He is very understanding. He grades papers really hard but gives you a chance to rewrite and correct. There are 4 big papers but no final!!!
The major bummer with him is that he grades VERY hard. He has high expectations. But he delivers what he wants well, and it EXTREMELY helpful. Plus, there are oppurtunities for rewriting. He is open to opinions and very calm. 4 papers over the semester. Not bad at all...take him :)
I don't agree with others saying that he grades hard. I have written papers all semester that I felt like were Cs or Ds and gotten high Bs. Plus, there is always the option of revision after he hands you back your paper. Take this class for Gwrit, it is an easy class!
ok so here is the deal you think he is nice when you first meet him, but he is so picky when it comes to writing! you can revise your papers and you may think it is a great idea, but it is so hard. no matter what you do, even if you think it is perfect, he will find something wrong. it is so annoying! He is a little weird on top of everything!
Mr. Jefferson is a great teacher. He does grade papers a little bit harder, but what do you expect this is college! He lets you correct the papers and most assignments. If you aren’t a very good writer visit him during his office hours he will revise it for you. Also, you will often have interesting, fun discussions. I would definitely take hi
Mr. Jefferson is a great professor who enjoys his job. People say that he's a hard grader on papers and that's true, but he does that to get the best from you. He's really a nice guy, you talk about a lot of topics during the semester. I enjoyed his class a lot I'm glad I took it.
Professor Jefferson grades his papers on a collegiant level, is passionate about what he teaches, and he makes you read the material actively. He's friendly, humorous, respectful, and you will leave his class with respect and understanding of the material he has taught.
Mr. Jefferson is one of the most commpasonate teachers I've had here. Loves his job and helping students and that is very clear. Yes he grades hard but work hard and it will pay off. Lots of writing assisnments but its worth it.Very good and a nice man too. If you have the time, and same interest as he does, you'll really enjoy it.
He is VERYYYY easy. He is a very nice professor and he's easy to talk to and he is always willing to help with anything.
treats it like a high school class. everyyy gwrit class gets out early EXCEPT for his. he gives busy work like no other - no gwrit class is supposed to be that much work. very annoying.
if you like writing about boring topics about JMU and getting grammar points taken off but not explained to you then this is for you. hes a nice guy just a very boring hard class
very helpfull professor that actually wants to teach you to write, he offered to help students with papers until friday of exam week. does give some busy work and does take off a lot of points for grammar on papers but you can easily get points back because you can edit and return papers to him
He's nice and really interested in literature. But he asks random questions for quizzes which can kill your grade after a while. also very unclear about what is expected on tests.
Great if you want to learn something! you read a lot of different things for variety as opposed to in depth study. It is more of a history of lit class and although the quizes are stupid and bring your grade down, they make you read on time and go to class. Tests are based on the study guide. There are only 2 papers. The quizzzess are the downfall!
He is a great professor. His grading system is very fair and he makes class very interesting. He brought the best out in my writing which i didnt even think existed before i took the class.
He is really interested in helping his students! He is a really hard grader on papers, but you learn!! He loves to discuss and loves the students that actually discuss!!
Mr. Jefferson is a great person! Im not gonna lie, his grading can be tough, but when you leave this class you actually feel happy with the amount of material you have learned. I know I will be getting better grades in other classes because of this class. One of the best teachers I have had...EVER! Take this class for sure, you will not regret it!
One of JMU's finest professors! Quiz to start each class, thus attendance is very much necessary to succeed. His exams aren't easy, but truly gage your depth of the reading. 2 papers. The final was difficult, but manageable. Honestly, the best professor I have had at JMU. I urge you to take him, and he is the type of professor you schedule around.
Awful teacher, would rather brag about how great he was than make sure students learned. I would not be surprised at all if the other comments on this wall were posted by Mr. jefferson himeslf. He did VERY little to help students
First he is not a professor, he is an instructor. Quizzes everyday, study guide for tests. The study guide is broad and in depth, pretty much covers everything discussed in class with half the material not even on the test. Makes it hard to focus in and study relevant material. Is extremely helpful with papers, will meet as necessary to help you.
Took his class not exactly looking forward to it, but walked out with a great understanding of literature in general. His class undoubtedly increases your knowledge if you put in the slightest bit of time. Quizzes every class, thus ATTEND CLASS! Three papers, 3 exams, very helpful! Worth taking for sure.
4 papers, very very hard grader on papers. Frequent small quizzes and some article reading. Way too hard to a GenEd class. There are easier GWRIT professors out there. Gives you time to revise your paper and averages the combined grades. Its almost impossible to get an A in that class Trust Me. If you are a good writer, take him, if not stay away!!
He gives a lot of work and the articles he makes you read are usually really long. He doesn't seem to understand that students have other classes than his own. He does let you revise over your papers to improve your grade, but he has really harsh grading standards for a gened class thats supposed to teach students how to improve their writing.
You should either be a really good writer or love writing papers in order for you to like his class. He is very picky and grades extremely harsh. Impossible to get an A for regular students. Hes a very nice and intelligent teacher and def. go to his office hours. Participate in claas. For sure, you will become a better writer when u leave this clas
Hes a very intelligent man. He needs to relax on how he grades papers. 4 papers make up majority of grades. I and my other friends in the class have not gotten anything above a 83 on any of the papers for his class, majority of times we got low 70s, and I considered myself an excellent writer throughout high school getting nothing lower than an A.
Sweetest guy ever! He's so helpful and WANTS you to come to his office. Overall just a great guy, and the best professor I've had at JMU.
Mr. Jefferson is awesome! he is so helpful and is the best professsor ive had at JMU so far. his class isnt super easy but he is EXTREMELY helpful and really wants his students to do well. definitly recommend him
This man is amazing teacher. He is so passionate about what he teaches as well as the way in which he teaches it. He's always availbale to help you when you need it. The class itself is a little difficult because subjects are often vague or abstract, but Jefferson is a huge help.
This class is probably within my top 3 favorites since Ive been here. Jefferson is a great teacher and we had great class discussions. I got a recommendation from him because he got to know all of us personally better than any other teacher
Jefferson is a great teacher. His work can be a little difficult. He wants to know everyone and is always helpful. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, he practacly tells you what to do. Definitely take Jefferson if you want a teacher who wants you to do good.
Prof. Jefferson is awesome. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them all to succeed. My only complaint is that he issues more homework than the other GWRIT teachers. Otherwise, he's fantastic and I definitely recommend him.
Prof. Jefferson is awesome! He's down to earth and really cares about his students. One of the easiest/nicest gwrit professors on campus. You only have to write 4 papers throughout the semester, along with a few other little homework assignments. He's truly helpful and great teacher- take him!
Jefferson is cool. He is very detail oriented when it comes to grading.very helpful. hard to get an A. Dont take his class during a presidential election, everything you write will be political and painfully boring.
He's a nice guy and is always willing to help. He loves what he teaches and makes it really interesting. Some of the writing can be tough and there's a lot of reading, but it's worth it.
Very nice and wants his students to do well. Four papers throughout the semester. Kinda nit picky on the grading of the papers however. And only a few short other assignments. Not much reading.
Make a good impression and he will give you an A. Otherwise, don't expect higher than B - or B. EXTREMELY NIT PICKY IN GRADING. Good guy though.
There was no textbook when I took this class, and only 4 essays. HOWEVER! Make sure you devote time to your essays and don't procrastinate. He likes it when you show that you care. In class, pay attention and show up; you may get to watch some YouTube clips. You can even regain lost points from essays by turning in corrections. He'll explain it.
Jefferson is the best writing professor at JMU! He is so willing to help you! I have learned so much from him. He is a tough grader but it is worth it to take him!
best teacher ever! i became such a good writer after this class, and with a little effort, its an easy A! hes really nice and really helpful and you will be a really good writer by the end!tough grader but gives awesome feedback!go to his office hours! great class and i highly recommend him,no textbook or tests, just read off blackboard, cool voice
He is the best professor i have ever had. This class is easy and not stressful at all. Few easy papers. He likes us to come to his office to get help. He is very sweet and helpful. TAKE HIM!!
Super easy as long as you listen to how he wants you to write the paper. Read the articles he sends to you because he will occasionally quiz you on them. If you go to office hours and stay for more than 10 minutes, he will give you an A on the assignment right then and there or will tell you EXACTLY what to fix.
Professor Jefferson was a great professor! He did give homework, but usually it was for completion, he encouraged students to go to his office hours and it was always a HUGE help. He's very passionate about the class and is really concerned about the students learning. I would definitely take again!!
Professor Jefferson is a really great guy. He does assign a lot of work and expect a lot from you, but he is always willing to work with you to improve your writing. I have definitely learned a lot from him and the course and would recommend! Only four long papers (nothing more than 5 pages double spaced) and homework was usually for completion.
Jefferson is honestly one of the best professors I've had. He is so sweet and caring and definitely wants you to succeed. There are 4 papers in the semester, and plenty of time to work on them. You can also revise them as much as you want to get a better grade. Overall, beneficial class with a great guy and great professor.
He's a nice guy and pretty engaging, but was not very clear in what he wanted from his students. There are 4 major projects that determine your grade that are spaced out throughout the semester, but all except one of them were not graded until finals week. I also thought he was a tough grader compared to some other teachers.
He makes the lecture a very interesting 50 when discussing current events or projects. There are only 4 papers that make up 70% of your final grade. The criteria for the papers is a little unclear and I was never really sure how I did on the because he didn't give back any papers. I somehow ended up with an A- and I suck at writing.
Lots of unnecessary readings that dont help you write the papers. 4 papers make up 70% of your grade but youre allowed to do corrections on it which is a good thing because if not youll never get an A because hes such a tough grader. Overall okay class
He's great! Takes a while to grade papers but lets you revise them when he's done which is awesome. What I can't stress enough- GO TO OFFICE HOURS!! Super helpful. I used to be a terrible writer in high school but got so much better in this class. He assigns some pointless readings but it's really not that bad. Grade is 75% papers.
He did not grade my classes papers until exam week and then I had no time to actually fix my work and bring my grade up. He threatened to fail me if I did not show up to class and if I emailed him he never got back to me. Once he decided to fail me, I failed. Not a good teacher, or person. Did not give good feedback whatsoever. he sucks.
I absolutely adore this class and this Professor! I had him for WRTC 103 and for the tutoring writing class. You will learn so much valuable stuff. Must take in order to work in the Writing Center. It was discussion based class and Jefferson was very flexible with deadlines and making sure we weren't stressed out. It's about learning, not grades.
Professor Jefferson was my favorite teacher last semester, very understanding with due dates and scheduling conflicts. He does a good job helping you understand how to improve your writing and I genuinely enjoyed my conversations with him. Absolutely would take again
Honestly one of the worst professors I have had. Does not make any effort to communicate with students. Take someone else. I got a decent grade but I had to fight for it.
This is one of the best writing classes I've taken. He actually cares about your writing and does what he can to make it better. We do a series of assignments that you keep submitting until you get a 100% on them. In total we had like 3-4 papers we had to write and he gives extra credit if you go to the writing center.
One of the kindest professors I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students. The class was very easy and not stressful at all. There are 3 major papers that he says we can resubmit until we get 100. He never actually graded a single one of these essays, the first being submitted mid February. This was a bit annoying, but class was easy A.
Class is mainly just projects throughout the semester. He gives lots of guidelines for these and is available to help in and out of class. Most annoying thing is that he doesn't post grades or give any feedback until the end of the semester so it's impossible to know how you're doing. Class is also sometimes boring and dry, but would take again
Very simple and straightforward class. However, he doesn't grade anything until after the semester is over. Therefore, you can't redo projects or fix anything you miss if you aren't happy with your grade. He's nice, but gets off topic a lot, which doesn't leave a lot of time for in-class work. The final was very difficult for some reason.
Kevin is a nice and caring professor who's very passionate about the Writing Center! Four apprenticeship assignments, somewhat time consuming but interesting and fulfilling. Brief readings and discussion posts for homework, small class size and very collaborative. Would recommend either for an elective or Writing Center employment.
The class is a lot of outside work, so be prepared to put in a lot of time. But, the in-class work is not difficult. He doesn't provide any feedback or grades, which is frustrating, and sometimes assigns/posts work the day before it's due. However, he is very nice and extends deadlines all the time. He's happy to talk with you about anything.
I took WRTC 328, the JMURJ practicum, with Kevin Jefferson and it was one of the most valuable experiences I've had at JMU. Working with the editorial board and with faculty gives you so much real world experience in publication. The class is variable credits and I've taken it for 2 semesters because I love it.
Very simple class with a straightforward professor. You do little projects and 3 big projects throughout the semester. However, he doesn't grade anything till the end of the semester. The professor is wonderful and I would take him again.
hes a good professor and means well but he is too all over the place. his lectures dont make sense half the time and there is no direct clear understandinf sometimes. he also doesnt put the grades in thriughout the semester which is annoyinh and u dont know what your grade is. hes a nice guy but he needs to plan more
Great professor, engaging class, does not grade anything. Seriously. My final grade is in MyMadison but I still can't access any grades on Canvas. Other than that, he's great. He explains what he's looking for and actually teaches you to comprehensively edit, which is super helpful. You need to show up, but if you show up, you'll do fine.
