Professor Johnson is tough but fair. His explanations are clear, and he breaks down the harder to understand problems. Expect 4 to 6 homework problems or so a week. Homework will count for about 10% of your final grade. Be prepared to work hard if you want to get an A.
Great professor! He makes the material sound so easy. He is a very helpful professor. His exams are much easier than the homework. I enjoyed his class.
Attend classes and do the homework and youll be fine! Professor johnson will push you to work hard. he also gives extra credit on exams. Go to his office hours and tutoring sessions and he will take the time to go over the material with you
Knowledgeable and helpful professor. the best math professor at Lehman. Always willing to help. I would take classes with him again
I do believe Professor Johnson is one of the best math professors at Lehman College. He is precise and he cares very much about the well being of his students. If you are willing to learn, he is willing to help ! If there is something you dont quite understand, you can always visit his office or ask him after class (if he is available). Good luck
Couldn't have asked for a better lecturer. I'm telling you, if you put in the work, you will get great results. Prof Johnson takes his time to make sure his students understand the topics. He is ALWAYS willing to give you a hand if you are lost along the way. Take advantage of his office hours if you have questions. I definitely recommend him!
Amazing professor! For the first time since 10th grade I actually felt that I understand math... professor Johnson really boosted my self confidence and helped me pass the class
Professor johnson is a wonderful lecturer. He is patient and open to questions. I would definitely take his class again.
Professor Johnson is truly a dedicated teacher and a real asset to Lehman College. He painstakingly explains tough math concepts in an understanding way through proofs and examples. You can see that he really cares about his students. You will learn a lot of math and I guarantee you will not regret taking his class.
His lectures are very thorough and engaging, he is passionate about math and is very accessible outside class. Prof Johnson is good at answering questions and provides great feedback when it comes to grading. Do the homework and dont miss classes, plus attend he reviews before each exam and youll learn a lot. I wish i had him next semester for Calc
Professor Johnson is one of the most exceptional professors to ever exist. He will not give up on you and will see potential in you if you are willing to TRY. The amount of hours I spent with him going over the material are unexplainable; no other professor will care the way that he did. Thank you Prof Johnson for not giving up on your students!
He's one tough cookie, very old school and demanding. Professor Johnson will challenge you to learn. Homweork is tough but exams are a bit easier. he is a fair grader and gives detailed feedback. Some may not like his harsh style but he spends time after class and in office hours to make sure you learn.
I agree with the poster below. He may seem harsh at first but when u get to know him he is a decent guy. his strong points are wide knowledge of math the amount of feed back he gives and the large amount of time he will spend going over stuff with you. Get ur algebra trig and graphing skills up to par and go to his office hrs and u will be ok
Listen where can i start. This guy would make you question how hard you work in a good way. He really wants to put a stamp on you knowing the material rather than just breezing by it. He cares.
Professor Johnson is an amazing professor! He may seem strict and hard in the beginning but he is just trying to bring the best out of each student. He has exceptional qualities of a great teacher! He cares very much and is always available if you need extra help! ALWAYS! I took him for MTH172 and still get help for MTH175 and he isn't my prof!
While this course can be an easy A, the professor is quite disrespectful. He lacks professionalism because he speaks to his students as if they were children. Does not inspire you to do well by constantly telling students that they will fail, instead of inspiring you to do well for your own betterment in the subject.
Mr. Johnson is okay professor who eager their student to know their materials from algebra, precalculus and calculus one. he goes heavy on you if you dont know your trignometry. But he's avaible for office hours almost every day and he will review the material over and over with you until you understand it. he would even let you retake the exams.
Amazing professor very helpful and GENUINELY wishes for you to LEARN and PASS. Willing to extend his office hours just to give you extra help on understanding the material if youre having a hard time following in class. Study hard and do your best, and youll have no problems. Take him!
Definitely very detail oriented. U must know your math. He will drill you to know trig, algebra & calc 1 material. His HWs are difficult but exams are easier. Has retakes for all exams(2 midterms, 1 final). He may seem harsh, but does it to make sure you succeed. He has TONS of office hours and is willing to help you. Know ur math or study to pass!
Totally recommend taking this professor! I would take him again in a heartbeat. He knows the material very well and goes out of his way to help you (office hours and in class). He is tough but only does it for the best of his students and for you to do well. He gives homework but it will help you learn, trust me! TAKE HIM! He is amazing and helpful
He is an amazing professor, knows his material and will help you learn in and outside of class. He expects a lot from his student but it will only make you learn. Try not to miss class because his lectures have to much detail. I loved going to class. Such a good professor and I am not evening going in math!
I got a 'B' for calc 1 but i got an 'A' from Johnson for Calc 2. Better not to fall behind in his class but if you do just go to his office hours. Great review sheets . exams are just like review sheets. and homework is hard but doable. He was intimadating at first then when you get to know him hes a nice guy
At first Johnson can be aggressive but he cares for students to understand past and current material for Calculus 2 throughout the semester. When you do the Final exam, you realize its easier than the exams he gives compared to the final. Also, he gives makeup exams as well as office hours extensions a lot compared to other professors.
Professor Johnson is the best math professor I've taken thus far. He understands math so well, and wants the same for his students. He gives study sheets, always offers office hours, and is well organized. That being said, you must work for your grade, it's a difficult class but it is possible to receive an A if you put time into your work.
Professor Johnson was intimidating at first because he wants you to do your best. The class consists of one test plus the final. Your grade depends on those tests and the online homework. He makes it very clear what you need in order to pass and explains exactly what his tests will be on. He is available outside of class should you need any help.
Worst professor Ive had by far. Over-explains topics. Criticizes class for not remembering small details from PRECALC. If you ask a question previously answered for clarity he assumes you dont read or pay attention when all you want is clarification. Stops class to rant about how much better he is than other professors. Class is no good.
Professor Johnson is a person who takes math seriously. He is very clear when explaining what it takes to pass the class and gives helpful review sheets for exams. He is very critical when grading only to make sure you are learning something at the end of the day and gives you make up opportunities. He also explains the purpose of why we learn this
He will come out as very harsh at first due to his grading criteria, but after a while, you will see that he is actually a pretty good professor! In order to get an A in his class, you just need to practice the material and follow his feedbacks. He is a bit picky when it comes to homework, but he does so to prepare for the much easier exams.
Do the homework, listen to the lecture and follow instructions and you will get an A
Awesome professor. He makes it so hard for you to fail. Gives extension on exams and does everything on mymathlab. Responds to emails quick and would definitely work with you.
Professor Johnson is a tough teacher who demands respect. He values the importance of an excellent education. He doesn't appreciate lack luster students and he will make it known. His bark is more vicious than his bite so don't be afraid to ask for help. Make sure to complete all homework assignments. He's always available for assistance.
He's a fine professor. He's a hard teacher makes you work for the grade you want. Sometimes he would sound arrogant and get annoyed if you don't remember something he taught or learn before. But not as bad.
Professor Johnson is a caring person that is EXTREMELY understanding and is always wanting to help class. Statistics is extremely difficult so you must find your own individual study materials online so that you can understand the lectures better but hes very fair and willing to give second chances! STATCRUNCH WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE!!!
He is very understanding and caring. He always extends the due dates because anyhow he wants his students to pass! I recommend taking him!
I am already a month in this course at this time and year and it's been a complete Disaster. DO NOT believe what these other reviews are saying about him- or you will regret taking a course with him. The professor does not encourage the students to do better. He is highly disrespectful. He criticizes on students for not knowing stuff. Please avoid!
Rude and disrespectful
The thing is he doesn't really inspire his students to do well in his course. He criticizes people for not knowing the answers, especially when they're related to linear algebra. He doesn't explain the lectures very well and give us a lot of work, which can lead to overloaded work. He can also be very rude and disrespectful.
Very disrespectful and arrogant. Frequently puts students down for not answering questions properly or for not understanding an advanced concept that was just presented. If you want the stereotypical experience of the hard class-rude college professor on tv, take him.
Prepare to do hard work to pass. Class is not easy.
His lessons taught me nothing. I had no idea what he was talking about. He will ask questions and then berate you for not being right making class participation a test of courage. He keeps saying you should now this already. But we are here because we need to learn the material. Instead of yelling at us for not knowing he should teach.
Profesor Johnson is a very strict oldschool professor. He makes you work forb the credit. He is tough but fair. He speaks his mind and lets you know if you are doing well or not. He does nt coddle students. In the end I learned a lot from his class.
I am taking statistics because it is a requirement for my major. The professor's lectures are on point and, although the homework can get a bit crazy, both help you to pass the exams. He gives exams over two days, two attempts and enough time to finish. The exam reviews are on point. He is a bit strict a but he means well.
Professor Johnson is really straightforward with his lectures. He explains everything very well. He has very high expectations of his students. He can seems rude at first but once you get used to his class , it's all good. He is strict when it comes to hw. I have learned a lot from his class.
If you're looking for an easy A then this is the wrong professor. Makes you work for your grade. Always available during office hours. I had some issues at the end of term. but he gave me lots of time to complete the assignments. Allows you to retake tests. Very strict though.
Professor Johnson is demeaning and often questions students ability to sit for the class. Has take home tests but homeworks require justification after the due date otherwise they're capped off at a certain grade. Few outside resources for this class, an intense course load and, a demeaning class environment make Professor Johnson a hard pass.
Maybe he is good for the 100 or introductory math classes but for higher math classes I do would not recommend... Don't do it to yourself...
The class isn't so bad with outside resources. Unless you know the content before attending the class, I would NOT take him.
The thing is you have to teach yourself and his lectures are not very helpful for the questions he assigns. His teacher style appeared to be good in the beginning and then I quickly noticed that he does not care about student success at all. He just teachers way to fast and is unclear Horrible
Im really surprised that people are writing positive things about this professor. Im a senior and This is the worst professor in my college life. He rushes things and encourages students to drop the class. All he does is reads his slides. Which makes this professor useless. Makes attendance mandatory. I dont recommend this professor to anyone.
He is strict but also fair plus he is always available for office hours. Stay on top of the work and ask for help. He really knows the material and is a good professor but if you can take someone else.
This professor knows the material but doesn't know how to teach it. I love math but he made me dislike it. He teaches with slides, reading off of them might I add. I really wished that he would be one of those professors who encouraged his students but no, he's not. When selecting him as your future professor beware, his a tough one.
He is a great professor, not excellent but good. If you need help go to his office hours and he always makes himself accessible. You have to review his lectures every week or else you will fall behind and be overwhelmed with work. His workload is a bit too much but is reasonable in difficulty. He knows his stuff but I can't say I entirely recommend
Professor Johnson has a deep understanding of the material he teaches. Several of the students complaining here just don't want to or don't like to work. They just want easy grades. If you want to learn the material well, take Professor Johnson's classes. His homework is hard but his exams are much easier.
He's a proffessor that knows what he's teaching but he teaches his math too fast so you'll have to take notes and teach yourself outside of class. Very egotistical. Outside of class he is very polite and proffesional, don't take this class if you're not good at math/can't pay attention because it will backfire on you harshly. I give him a 6.5/10.
please avoid this professor, not only is he extremely rude but he does not care about his students at all unless he likes you. he will indirectly call you stupid if you don't know something, and he makes it so that if you fail the final exam you fail the whole course :(.
If you prefer a non-lecture environment, this class is not for you. This course is largely lecture-based and requires some prior knowledge of word problems and mathematics. Every day, we also pick up new lessons. This course is difficult. However, there is after-hours access to the professor, and tutoring is available.
He is a great professor and truly cares for his student. But he is also a tough cookie and given how hard the class was, this did approach did not always help. However he is available and does everything to help. But you have to put in work, A LOT of work I must add, in order to pass. His class demands a lot to get a good grade.
This guy was freaking awesome he is amazing at what he does. I have never seen someone break down problems lke he does. He is always willing to help u every step of the way the Quizes n HW help so jus don't b lazy
This professor right here is the reason why I was able to graduate on time. He also mentioned before starting class if there would be companies/businesses on campus looking for interns with zero experience.
He is a very tough grader but he is also very helpful and will stop to help you out. Attendance is mandatory, and test are worth a lot of the grade.
Rude and unhelpful. He hates helping his student and takes pride in being unhelpful
You must work for your grade but he is honestly such a good professor. Always available for office hours, great explanations. He goes above and beyond for his students but know he practices tough love. May seem rude but good professor overall.
So awful don't take. I had him for statistics and he didn't know how to teach, he would go back on his word which just made his class that much more confusing. He makes you stand by the door till "your let in". More than half of the class was failing. He got mad because no one knew the answer because once again he doesn't know how to teach
This class was definitely not easy, however if you pay attention in class and use the homework to your advantage it'll make it slightly easier for you to do well in this class. Make sure to show up because it'll derail you easily. This isn't really a bad class you just need to try to find an efficient way to study.
Was really strict and intimidating but honestly gives a lot of chances to fix your grade. He may ramble about nonsense sometimes, but his lectures were clear and he covered multiple examples. Strict about how you contacted him,he was available outside of class,he was merciful.Class was a little difficult, just attend and pay attention to lectures.
Professor carries a strict demeanor but the class isn't hard at all. Gives multiple chances to make up grades and homework only subtracts .01% per day it's late. He's lecture heavy and doesn't force participation but attendance matters, if you miss a day you can make it up by going to tutoring.
Always available after class though in class it is all lecture and no interaction. He seems strict no he is strict but willing to guide you to help. Honestly tutoring saved me in this class, the hard part is Pearson though where there is no partial credit.
He carries the class with a strict demeanor but throughout the semester it's clear that he wants students to work hard for their grades. Attendance is mandatory but can be made up by attending tutoring. Try to be on top of homework and the 5 quiz assignments so it doesnt pile up on you. There is no textbook but Pearson is $80.
This professor is strict but he is very clear on what he wants students to learn, pearson my lab was 85$, and you have to do two midterms worth 15% of your grade and one final exam worth 35% of your grade, attendance is mandatory but can be made up by going to tutoring
If you love your mental health don't take this class. He has a very strict demeanor and is not welcoming. Homework is done on Pearson which is 85$. The final was very stressful (35% of your grade, 50 or less is an F). Attendance is graded. You will not learn through the lectures. You need to study the material yourself!!! There is no curve.
It was a tough class and I felt that I did not learn much. We would do everything thing in Pearson and I never felt like I learned math. Tutoring never helped it is very disorganized and nobody is available.
Professor Johnson is great!!! Clear lectures, explanations and overall always accessible. The bad thing was that everything was on Pearson and probably will not get partial credit even though you did everything right except maybe rounded wrong. Great professor, horrible software for quizzes and exams.
He is a teacher who likes to be shown that they are understanding or learning. Never miss, go to tutoring as many times as possible and above all try to get 100% on your assignments.
Love him, one of the best here at LC.
Read the rest of the comments; this professor is no joke. I'll tell you what you'll hear him say if you take his class: "Go to tutoring, go to office hours!" He's very strict and sounds like a cranky old man who rants about "kids these days" which can be discouraging. However, after lectures, he's a different man open to helping you with tutoring.
Professor Johnson is a great teacher. Exam grades depend on how much you study and try. Review the textbook, slides, and videos before exams. Quizzes, homework, and attendance can help your grade. Be careful and prepare well for the exams.
I can't stress this enough—he's easily the best math teacher I've ever had. He explains everything so clearly and thoroughly, covering every step from the very basics, even the material you might think is obvious. If you ever have a question, he makes sure to answer it completely and thoroughly.
A hard grader, but very caring. He wants his students to learn.
Personally I feel like math shouldn't be a lecture, I like more one on one which torturing does that. He is a great professor he do care about students performance. Sometimes he does go on rants with the class when he gets upset, which do be funny lol. Homework and Midterms are worth 15 points and the final has 10 questions worth 35 points.
His intensity and strictness makes it hard to figure him out. He gives off the vibe of being a hard and arrogant professional but he helps you pull through in the end. (Especially if you're bad at math) he provides slides, videos, and tutoring that helps you boost your grade.
At first, he seems harsh but he really does care and is an amazing professor. Go to tutoring when You're lost, do the homework (on time)! That's practice in itself and also boosts your grade. He will give study guides for the midterms and finals. You cannot fail as long as you try! I got an A and I am TERRIBLE at all things numbers and math.
He's a very hard professor if you're lazy then you'll fail for sure, lucky that i was lazy but barely passed go to tutoring he repeats it alot and he's not joking. lots of homework too be prepared for that as well.
He does come off very strict but he lowkey means well . Im bad at test taking so my grade was low due to my scores on that but he teaches well. He Makes slick remarks . He also gives many opportunities to boost ur grade just SHOW UP.
Great professor. Super caring. Means no harm. Wants the best for his students. He emphasizes tutoring a lot because it is an amazing resource, which is the real reason I got an A. Attendance matters; don't miss class. He explains well. If you pay attention, you will understand. Trust me, because I'm not a fan of numbers, lol.
He talks a lot and is a very rude professor. He does give a lot of opportunities for the exams and always offers tutoring, but he can be mean. Because of that, I wouldn't take him again.
He may come of as strict, but his level of strict has allowed me to do well in his classes. After taking 3 different classes with him, he is a nice guy with manners and is willing to put in the effort to have his students succed. If his class is aviailable I'll suggest you to take it.
He does office hours and isnt that strict, he would help you if needed but he prefers if you at least try it yourself first. I had fun in his class
he is very...
oh no honey. dudeeee I dropped the class with so fast!!!
Overly strict & can come off mean but it's just the Caribbean in him lol. I don't recommend if u have social anxiety he might scare u. He would scold us if we didn't know the answers to his questions lmaoo. I promise this class is easy, his slides just over-explain key concepts. I recommend going to tutoring so they can dumb it down in simple terms
Homework's can take up to 1-6 hours. You have to do a lot of writing then math. Can be rude at times. but not a tough grader for exams. Exam reviews matches the actual exam. Overall I recommend taking someone better if you can but if not this professor is not that bad. Just have to put more time for this class then others.
Attitude, speech, and behavior are very nasty
