He is brilliant and helpful when asked for help..
Knows how to explain complex abstract ideas very well.
Out of the faculty for the philosophy department, he is the only person who can teach and help students understand abstract concepts.
If you like to get a word in edgewise, or have an opinion, NEVER take him, unless you enjoy being yelled at. If you like to learn the material without thinking about it, enjoy. Tests are open book
God Awful human being--a true screamer who likes his histrionics and bullying students
never take this guy's classes
Annoying, loudmouth, opinionated little.... I can't use the accurate word. If you like a teacher who steamrolls over you, have fun. If you don't, RUN
he knows what he is talking about, if you bring up a good arguement, he will run with it. he will try to involve students im class, participate and listen and you will learn a lot and breeze through the class. he's a nice guy but may come off mean.
Excellent teacher, and a nice fellow. Very bright.
when i read some of the comments here i was going to transfer out of his class... but i didnt and im glad i didnt... his lectures were clear to me and i understood what he was talking about so it made the exam easier plus the final was open book
VERY EASY, NICE GUY GO TO CLASS AND STUDY NOTES EASY TESTS STRAIGHT FROM NOTES
He is great you never even have to open the book because he is such a good teacher
best professor evva
funny guy, explains material well. exams are reasonable. he gives the question to the exam the day before and its your job to answer that question with your notes in rougly 2 pages.
hes very funny! explains his material and also give u the test question! as long as u go on review day for teh test u should get a good grade! dont need to buy a book for this guy!
Great teacher, thouroughly explains everything and makes class interesting.
Nice Guy. His one-liners are the best. He finds a way to make metaphysics, the most boring subject in the world, somewhat interesting. I wonder if he has a wife....
There are a handful of professors that truly have an impact on your education, Kennedy is one of them. He will take an otherwise complicated topic and thoroughly explain it. Very witty. Don't talk while he's talking...you've been warned. Be respectful.
takes the worst subject in the world, doesnt make it interesting but makes it extremely clear. i have never had a teacher teach a subject better than him. he knows his stuff. take him for all philosphy, but make sure you do the work as well.
metaphysics is anything but easy, but he explains it in such a way that it would be impossible to not understand. he's amazing! if u dont want the stuggle of philo., take him!
his a good professor...i reccomend taking him in the summer, makes his tests easy and only 25 multiple choice questions..during the year its an essay test 100/100...kinda hard...explains material well, offers help if u need it..good professor..
GREAT TEACHER..KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING..YOU LEARN A LOT IN THIS CLASS AND HE MAKES IT EXTREMELY INTERESTING...VERY NICE GUY ALSO..IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP AND MAKE THINGS CLEAR..I RECCOMMEND HIM VERY MUCH.
this dude talks for 90 minutes and all u have to do is write notes..he gave one essay test which he graded harshly and his other tests were m.c.if u get m.c. tests u'll be fine..there easy..but easy test.cry..have fun..all in all take another metateacher..i got a B+ when i thought i was getting an A
if you like being bored to death then def take him! u wont understand anything he says, the more he talks the more confused u get! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

He is a great teacher! I would advice taking him.. The textbook for this class is very confusing, but then he makes it clear through his notes.. Before each test he has a review class, so ask any questions you may have, and look over notes and you should be fine.. I got an A for the class..
U should def take him! he explains everything in class, and the exams are straight from the notes..b4 the exam he gives a review and actually tells u some of the ques that are going to be on the exam.Take him and u wont regret it..warning tho:dont talk in his class while he's talking or else ull get kicked out..otherwise, easy A! (:
5 pts. 1. Screw the textbook. don't need it. 2. don't miss his class or you'll be lost. 3. write notes. 4. attend the review day. it'll save your grade. 5. 20 m.c. Q test. get more than 2 questions wrong? you should not be in college. ITS THAT EASY! 3 tests + final. i got 92 96 96 100. and i half as-sed it.
i had this guy spohmore year and he is by far the man..He explains everything in full detail and is very open for opinion..Plus hes kinda sexxy in a werid way..Anyway screw the book and just take good notes and ur done..easy A kids
He was an awesome prof. I went blazed daily and got an A. His class is a hard subject, but he's incredible at teaching it. His sense of humor is out there but hilarious. Take him and enjoy the class- he doesn't take attendence, but you'll WANT to go...
This professor is my new hero! I thought I would never get higher then a C in Meta. and thanks to his fantastic teaching methiod I got an A! He is a Philosophy miracle worker! You'll love his class even if you hate Philosophy.
Take this man! I took him for the summer session and I got an A in the class. I absolutely hate philosophy, but he makes it very comprehensible and forewarns his class that metaphysics is difficult due to its abstract nature.
St. johns needs more philosophy professors like him. Go to class or you will be lost. You need to take notes. The exams are based on them. He is straight to the point and explains philosophy so you can really understand. I received an A-.

He is an easy professor. DON'T GET THE BOOK!!!!! His tests come straight from the notes but make sure that you are a good note taker. He tells you a lot of the questions that are going to be on the test. He is actually the only PHI professor that got me to stay awake in a PHI class. Cool guy and makes class interesting. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!!!!!
This man is a true professional, knows what he's talking about and has even written his own books and theories. best philosphy professor I've had. don't buy the book cuz its expensive and he goes over everything in class. if u get him in a large class he gives multiple choice tests, however in a smaller class he might give essays
Best philosophy professor at SJU, hands down. Take good notes cuz all tests qz come from notes and he even gives u some qz along the way. knows exactly waht hes talking about and how to make it clear for all to understand. Makes subject really interesting, definitely a GREAT guy
Quite possibly the best professor of Philosophy at St. John's..He explains stuff well so that you understand it..This is the only philosophy class that you'll be able 2 stay awake in..But you MUST take notes cuz the tests come straight from them..
easy prof! if u take good notes and listen attentively in his class, u should have no problem in passing this course. i definitely recommend anyone to take him for philo.
He is inspiring, thought-provoking, kind, funny, clear, direct, realistic, smart, COMPETENT, and genuinely loves the material- (sheds a much needed light on the subject as a whole) I loved every day of his class- You will LOVE Dr. K!!!!!
great professor!! he makes anything in philosophy seem easy and clear to understand. take good notes & pay attention in class & its an EASY A. 4 TestS-25MC each, dont buy the text book its a waste of $80, he picks easy quotes you will know them just by reading them. TAKE HIM HES THE BEST!
A great guy! 4 Tests all pretty simple. He teaches you for 2 classes then you spend about a week or two reviewing it over and over again and then he'll test you. The material can be tricky but he is good at his job and that is teaching us in a simple way. He takes attendance occasionally but I don't think it affects your grade but can possibly help
this guy can teach. he is so damn clear you'd have to be an idiot not to understand this man. great at explaining everthing. the best thing is he's so modest. cool guy, down to earth. still not sure what the midterm or paper will be like.
This class is basically memorization class. If you can memorize a 2 page essay at home and write it in class then you will get a A. His essay is basically notes. You dont even have to open the book. Whatever he gives you as notes, just write the entire thing back in essay form on test and you get a A. No need to think or knowledge required.
this guy even inspired me to buy some of the books he mentioned in his lectures when he was off on a digression! he knows his stuff and just wants to share the love and appreciation he has for it wit his students. he is so clear, if you have ears you will be enlightened. take him over ANY other phi prof. well, him and Gianelli
His classes should be called copy and paste. Because you don't really learn anything..all you do is memorize his notes and write the same exact lines in an essay form on test. Class is kind of torture because you have to memorize so much and doesn;t give much higher then a B grade.
Prof. Kennedy is a great philosophy professor. It's amazing how much he knows about it. Does not take attendance, BUt it is to your advantage to show up to classs and taakeeee as many notes as possible. 4 essay test during the semester. NO midterm or final. He gives you the question before the test. Write it at home-memorize it-& rewrite it in cl
All I can say is that I took him for 2 semesters straight and he was the BEST both times I took him. Very understanding and will work with you if you have good reason. Thanks Professor
Very clear teacher. His presentations were all relevant to the tests which he gave (in class essays-questions are given beforehand). Great sense of humor and overall a really interesting class.
took him for honors metaphysics. good teacher, very clear, and easy class. the in class essays are the grades and are easy. i never studied, just went to class and winged the essays and still pulled of a b+.
i've taken a philo class before and absolutely hated the subject. I'm glad i took him afterward cuz he does a great job explaining everything. he knows his stuff very well and has a sense of humor. his tests are straight forward and most importantly he makes philosophy interesting. a must take!
HE is Awesome
he is an awesome professor. He knows how to teach philosophy without making life hell. Class is easy and the tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class
awesome professor!
He is a good professor. His classes can seem slow and boring at times. However, just try and pay attention in class and make an honest effort to do the work and you should get a good grade. You can go to him for help (even after class). I got a B plus.
Excellent Professor!. CLEAR! I'm Learning alot!
Extremely interesting class. My previous Philosophy professors bored me to death but this one I really was into. He talks about the different ideas of the philosophers from Socrates to Modern philosophers in a way that you really get to thinking about the ideas. If you want to open your mind take this guy, its awesome.
SMARTEST person you would ever meet in you life!. i actually looked forward to going to his class for entire semester. i learned ALOT without having to kill myself fighting for an A.... PLUS he has his OWN original philosophy!!! 'DIALECTIC PLURALISM'! how kool is that?
this man is a genius! his class is very interesting and he makes complex material so clear it makes you feel like a genius yourself. I had him for Honors Metaphysics and got an A. Go to class, pay attention and take notes.. you don't even have to read the textbook... take his words as is and you'll do great!
kennedy is the coolest guy ever. his comments are not just real funny, but also always hit the nail on the head. he's easily satisfied and rather minimalistic (to save himself the trouble of reading lousy papers, i suspect) and goes off (entertaining) tangents a lot. go to this class for his awesome insights and wonderfully detached attitude :-)
i took kennedy for logic and was a little disappointed because while he is an excellent&insightful(and witty:"all st. john's students are geniuses is an A proposition.it is false.")teacher,he also has "a life" and thus bunks classes a LOT.he dealt with a classroom full of ignorance by grading leniently and cutting back on the material-not cool.
took PHI 1&2k and hated PHI in general.. took phi3K with kennedy and I'd take phi 4, 5, and 6k with him if such classes existed.. excellent professor!
Dr. Kennedy is a dedicated, effective educator. He's very encouraging and not out to ruin you. He doesn't expect us to love Philosophy, but just wants to help us open our minds, which he's so great at. I thought I'd hate Philosophy and was scared to take it, but he made it "user-friendly". I can now appreciate Philosophy's role in life/the world.
Professor Kennedy is awesome. He explains things to the best of your understanding and would explain it further if you still don't understand. He ends class early all the time and his tests are relatively easy if you just pay attention. Definitely recommended.
prof. kennedy is one of the few professors left in st. johns that actually wants to see his students pass.. unlike the science teachers they don't help at all .. prof. kennedy ALWAYS goes over something if you don't understand him
Dr. Kennedy seems stern at first with his pet peeves but he's pretty fair with grades. He understands that the material is hard to grasp but he does his best to explain it in a way that we understand. 2 essay exams, 1 MC test and the final (essay + MC). Comes in 5 minutes late and let's class out 10 minutes early. I would definitely recommend him.
Great Philosophy Professor. Apprehends the material to the length that the student will understand and keep interest. I learned plenty in this class. 2 exams. Miss one class = miss a lot of material.
came late, explained at a reading we can understand, knew his stuff, interesting class, would definately recommend
He's a good teacher but bring your laptop because there are a lot of notes, also try to establish internet connection cause if you are just taking notes your brain will fry
Just had him for the summer session and my grade was based on four exams which were all multiple choice. i saved all of them if anyone wants them, just email me at undercova****[email protected]
Great prof. Tells you exactly what will be on the exam in the reviews before the exam. Four 25-question multiple choice exams. HE goes over EVERYTHING in class, so make sure to come. If you take notes during the lecture, you don't need to buy any of the textbooks. Great professor, great guy.
One of the better core professors. If you take notes, you don't need to buy the text book (he prints it out for you anyway). Tests are designed for you to pass with flying colors. Overall, pretty easy class and I would definitely take him again.
No Homework, The class consists of the professor lecturing in class. There is 4 tests(25 multiple choice questions), each one counts for 25% of your grade.
I always hated philosophy, but this class made me sorta like it. He is very good at explaining really hard concepts, and I am positive that he is the easiest metaphysics professor, some of our tests were open book! He can be boring, but its philosophy, and you dont have to read the book. I would recommend him!
He is not a good teacher at all, he can't write properly, very unorganized and looks for a reason to yell at people for talking... But the 4 tests are easy and he reviews them.. Overall he isn't what you need
Probably the easiest philosophy professor at St Johns, no papers, no discussions his class is nothing but lecture, he explains everything so it is easy to understand. 4 tests, all 20 questions multiple choice. if you go to class and listen easy A.
The best philosophy class ever. All you need to do is be regular to class and take all notes given. I took his class over the summer. He even admitted his class is easier in the summer which is true. I recommend to take metaphysics class with him before you take ethics. It makes it easier.
The clearest professor I ever had. He makes hard philosophers easy to understand. He reviewed the material so much that I had 3 copies of the same notes. Don't buy the textbook. The textbook is hard to read, but he explains it so well that you don't need it. It is available in the library. He was nice to make our finals have easy MC.
great professor, a bit monotone but covers everything in class and reviews for every test. If you go to class and pay attention you should get an A
great professor
I learned more about philosophy in one semester then the past 2 years. He is clear, concise, and explains everything crystal clearly so that you would need an IQ of under 12 not to get an A. Just pay attention. 4 tests, drops the lowest one, thats it. He is a brilliant prof that makes a normally boring subject fascinating.
He's excellent. Lectures are very clear and he reviews every class which is great. Barely any homework, just textbook reading. Tests are simple with a lot of throwaway questions, but they're basically the only part of your grade so you must do well there. Attendance isn't mandatory but you have to go to do well. Ends class early. Definitely take.
Professor Kennedy really knows what he is talking about. His lectures are funny and concise. I would definitely take him again. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would go to class, pay attention and take notes, it helps a lot. He is funny and comes up with examples you can relate to and thereby understand the material.
Had him for a summer course. Better than most PHI profs at SJU. Metaphysics in general is really confusing but he made it somewhat easier to comprehend. Writes all of the notes on the board. Paying attention isn't essential but it definitely helps. Only four tests including the final that had multiple choice and short answer response.
Best philosophy prof I've had. He is SO clear, and goes over the material 2-3 times before tests. Gives notes and examples that can be easily understood and related to, which helps with tougher material. He's funny too. Holds study classes one class before the test. 3 tests and a final, all were fair. Don't really need the book but GO TO CLASS!
Best philosophy professor at SJU. He makes learning metaphysics less complicated than it needs to be and not only simplifies it but makes real world connections. He doesn't over complicate the course. Show up, take notes, and ask questions if necessary. I didn't buy the textbook
One of the most inspirational moments of last semester was when he emailed us telling us that we could go to the Peccadillo theater, ran by him, for free for extra credits. We witnessed his passion in action as he talked about John Henry Newman and Thornton Wilder after the play. He definitely should do more work in theater and stop teaching.
Attendance is not mandatory but his test questions are exactly from his lectures. Gives a big curve so its an easy A and answers emails efficiently. If you have questions he will stop his lecture at any time to answer you.
This professor is beyond amazing. He makes metaphysics so much easier to understand. Go to class, take notes, and you should be able to pass. His tests are always multiple choice and he makes the correct answer pretty obvious. You must read to answer his essay questions. Got B+s on his exams and ended up getting an A- as my final grade.
He gives engaging lectures. Only grades are 4 tests, one for each of the reading. No attedance policy but if you don't show up you won't pass. He assigns reading but you won't need to do them if you take good notes on the lecture. The test question are often just straight from the lecture
Lectures are hard to understand, he can't make anything clear.
He starts out bland and makes some weird jokes that aren't really jokes but he's actually a good teacher. Lots of lecture but if you pay attention its interesting. Don't trust taking pictures of notes on the board because it's basically chicken scratch. Drops the lowest test grade and reviews before every test. Textbook is barely used
Probably, the best Philosophy teacher. Breaks down everything for you as well as gives you an outline. 4 test usually 25 multiple choices and sometimes he puts essay questions, but everything is exactly what he says from his lecture. Just pay attention, and you'll do fine. Also gives extra credit and drops the lowest test grade. definitely take!!!1
Easy A. Go to class, take notes, pass the tests. Mad easy. I took this class in the summer, highly recommended. Four easy tests, lowest grade dropped.
Dr. Kennedy gave me hope for the SJU philosophy department. He explains everything very well and is happy to explain things until you understand. His exams are fair but study hard for them. Only 3 exams and a final, no papers. Attendance is not mandatory but if you can sit through the lectures, go to class, you will do well.
Dr. Kennedy's class is pretty simple. Take notes on the lectures. and take the tests. There are four tests. No papers. He sends out notes right before the tests, and the tests are usually based on it. Pretty simple. He has a few jokes here and there. Would take again.
Class consist of lectures. His lectures are confusing and he jumps around a lot which makes it hard to take notes. He writes on the board but its basically giberish. 4 exams in total. They aren't hard, but they are short so if you get a few wrong your grade is in trouble. No home work or essays. Show up for class and you can pass the test.
My favorite professor I've had so far. You can tell he's extremely passionate about what he teaches. Philosophy can be confusing but you will learn a lot if you go to class & take notes. If you don't go to class, you will fail because his lectures are content heavy. Total of 4 exams (no essays or homework). Study the outlines & you'll be fine.
Took him over the summer and it was pretty straight-forward. Gave notes in class (horrible handwriting so dont try to copy the boards notes) and emailed us an outline for each unit, so study the notes and outlines. He doesn't care about attendance. 4 straightforward, fair tests - 25 multiple choice. He drops the lowest grade. Solid professor.
Amazing professor! Very knowledgable and makes it easy for you to learn the material. Relates to many real world situations and re explain so that you know it. Only consist of 4 tests which are fairly simple. The multiple choices consists of common sense, silly questions, and to test your knowledge. There are short answers too. Just STUDY! earned A
His 3h classes were rough but he is a wonderful professor. He knows Metaphysics is hard and is always going beyond to help. No quizzes but exams are fair/easier- memorize the notes/outline that he sends out. Go to class and pay attention, his notes on the board don't make sense, listen to what he has to say instead. His class was simple, take him!
No textbook, but lots of reading from documents. Just do the reading, study, and make sure to take notes from any videos he gives you explaining the material. 4 tests. A good amount of work, but if you do it you'll get the grade you deserve. Also, discussion board questions were a bit difficult, but just do your best and the professor will notice.
Prof. Kennedy was a great philosophy prof. Phil can be really hard but he explains everything so thoroughly and encourages questions. 4 tests, 2 with multiple choice and two shorts essays, the other 2 with just multiple choice. Just take good notes, study well, and you'll get an A. No homework just tests, so just be prepared. Not easy but not hard.
Nice guy, but not a great professor wise. Test heavy which sucked, felt like he could have given us more opportunities to improve grades. Had to pass/fail this class.
Dr. Kennedy is one of the best philosophy professors I had at SJU. I took his 3 hour class and, even if it was lecture heavy, they were very clear. Pay attention to what he says instead of what he writes and you'll get an A. 4 tests, including the final, with 20-25 MC questions. Almost every test had 4 short answers, but you only had to answer 2.
Easily one of the best philosophy professors at St. John's. He's very test heavy with 4 tests including the final, but they are easy if you put in the work to study. Note-taking on his lectures is CRUCIAL. Pay attention to what he says because I will guarantee that it will pop up on the test. He made Metaphysics easy to understand and interesting.
He is a good professor, but I'm happy I took his class online because it would've been hard to take it in person. He is a picky grader on the discussion posts, so you have to do good on the exams to make up for that. Overall not a bad professor just wouldn't prefer to take him again.
His lectures are amazing if you're really interested in philosophy and looking to learn. He teaches very clearly and well. You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. His grading is compromised of 5 tests, which are easy as long as you take notes and study. He cracks good jokes and can be nice at times, but he's standoffish and a bit rude.
Not horrible but the course material is a lot. Your grade is only made up of four tests so it's important to do well (20 multiple choice and two short answer). If you don't go to class you will not pass. Taking notes is essential.
Gave 4 tests and those were the only things you were graded on. Does not offer any extra credit. Extremely long and difficult lectures.
Took his hybrid class and quizzes were online. In-person lectures are optional, but they definitely help on the quizzes if you take notes. He's very passionate about what he teaches and is extremely entertaining. Always engaged in class and portrays different philosophers in a creative way!
I did not like this class at all. It was very boring and all he did was talk. There are 10 quizzes that are 5 quizzes that are worth 20% of your grade and 4 exams including the final that are worth 80%.That is the only thing your graded on!!!! He only writes notes on the board and they are a mess. He gives no extra credit. The tests are hard!
