This is a tough teacher! No open book tests - no notes - no note cards. Tough subject though... Even though he gives good study guides, he will still add surprise questions. Not an "easy" A - that's for sure!
Arrogant. Seems to enjoy producing extremely hard exams. Sort of maniacal. Has a god complex. Wears cool Hawaiian shirts, though.
If you try Leith will not fail you. Grades on huge curves, dropes lowest test score, and doesn't take attendance. However can't say that you will learn that much, so if you are majoring in Math try another teacher but if you just need the credit take him.
Worst math teacher I ever had. Reluctant to help outside of class.Rarely returns e-mails. Enjoys creating tests so hard that he can't even solve the problems during the post test review. Grades on huge curve, if he didn't every student would fail.
Horrible, I think he wants all his students to drop so he does'nt have to do as much work. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Kevin has no energy, is very rude and, seems to have no interest in teaching. His style is about as boring, straight out of the book and not helpful as it gets. If u want to take calculus at TVI take David *Blankenbaker or Tamra Mason.
I studied to the verge of breakdown in his class. He is surprisingly helpful if you take the time to talk to him. Most don't. His explanations can be muddled. He curves tests, and they can be tricky. If you're looking for a challenge, try it. He is humorous in that typical math teacher type of way.
Kevin's classes are difficult. If you want to learn anything i suggest you try tamra mason.
***DON'T DO IT*** (if you can help it). Look at consistency of the other ratings. He rushes through the material and is very unclear during his examples. The exams seem to be fair but the quizzes are too intense
Kevin rushes through the material and expects that everyone knows as much about math as he does. Thank god I have a good understanding of algebra or I would have failed his class. (And believe me, a lot of people did). Avoid, unless good at math!! Doesn't give extra credit or any cushion to the grade.
I dropped this class at the last possible date. In that time I recieved one grade. I did not know how I was doing (aside from the fact I felt lost.) Class instruction does not necessarily pertain to homework in book. Seems to enjoy problems that drive students crazy. A nice guy, but unless you are a math whiz, I would not recommend this instructor.
I think he's lost his mind. What is the deal with his shirts? He's not the best instructor but is okay. I am currently taking his class and will get an A, I'm sure. He says his cats write the tests!? There is no HW and a total of 5 tests. So, no room for messing around.
Kevin is a fairly odd fellow, and is pretty easy to misunderstand. He is however one of the best math professors/teachers I have ever had the priviledge of working with. He makes it very clear from the start of the class that he is a difficult professor, and he will prove it to the students throughout the semester. I <3 him, and will take more.
He is a strange fellow. Was helpful when I went to office hours, but never very friendly. He obviously had "pet" students, but I wasn't one of them. Overall, I learned the math, got a good grade. He enjoys his own lectures and jokes more than you ever will. "The cat wrote the test thing" is funny until after the 1st test. Then it's just stupid.
He was very hard to understand. I took his class in the summer, then I had to drop because I fell too far behind. I was able to take the class again with someone else and got a B.
I took Kevin for both Calc I and II. He is hard, but he wants everyone to understand. If you do not understand, he will stop and explain until you do. Grades on a huge curve. So, just hope no one in class is a math genius.
He's a very good teacher but he covers a lot of material fast but I think he's one of the better math teachers at this school. If you want to learn the math, he's the guy.
Tends to be absent. Rushes through curriculum to make up for his lost time.
This man is the WORST instructor I have ever had. He delights in confusing and frustrating his students. Embarrasses students whenever possible. Assigns homework that doesn't end up on tests, and that is often so complicated that some tutors cannot finish the problems. Will answer questions, but not so you understand them. AVOID AT ANY COST!!!!!!!!
Excellent professor. One of the best I ever had while at CNM.
This prof is the best I have ever had. He is tough but fair. Couldn't ask for a better teacher!!
He is not hard. If you do what he recommends like the work in the book, test reviews, go to office hours, and ask questions in class you will do great. He really answers questions. I learned a great deal from this instructor.
The best prof I ever had. Clear instruction and knows how to present material. Makes math both fun and understandable. Take him if you have the chance.
Amazing. Does the entire without notes or even opening the book.
I'm sure he knows his subject, but doesn't seem much interested in doing anything other than putting you down and letting you know you'll never know as much as he does.
Very thorough step-by-step teaching of concepts, but the instructor fell a little behind because of absences.
It was really easy and really boring. He teaching is easy to understand, but he constantly uses his cats as metaphores for math problems and they are all he talks about, and its hard not to fall asleep in his class.
He seemed to mumble a lot. The class instructing was more of look what I know, not this is what you need to know. I do not mind hard but I was so lost even with his help. I do know he knows his stuff. Not many teachers instruct with out the book. I pay to be taught to and I want to learn. He does not seem interested in teaching.
Do not take this guy. He really seems to not care about student success. Let me explain. His study guides don't have answers on them, and there are questions on the tests unlike any on the study guide. He didn't show up to class, with no forewarning, THREE times. He never offered an excuse in subsequent classes for any one of those absences.
Kevin is a funny teacher, however I felt that he wanted to show off what he knew, rather than teach the class. He also made test extremely difficult. I felt that a lot of it was material that we didn't even cover. Unless you are really good at math or love to live in the tutoring center. Don't take his classes!
Terrible teacher. The man was gone about three times during the semester and tried to cram the whole lesson plan into the semester. He is hard to understand, I have had foreign teachers that I understand better. He grades very hard despite is lack of teaching ability. He makes his test chiefly to trip up students. Save money and time and avoid him
Had to withdraw. Teaches by intimidation and leaves students with anxiety at the thought of asking for help. Makes it obvious that he doesn't want to be there. Hard tests, and grading criteria is illogical. If you want to learn trig, teach yourself rather than taking him.
The guy is eccentric and mumbles a lot. He's a math teacher. That's normal. But he genuinely likes teaching lower div calc; no other prof I've had has. He grades hard, but he allows a retest if you get a D or lower on any midterm. His lectures combined with the book and maybe a bit of tutoring will teach you calc. What else do you want?
Class was very straightforward, as were the exams. Kind of mumbles a little bit but after a couple class sessions you get used to it. Really great teacher overall - doesn't mess around but gets right to the point, if you pay attention in class and ask questions it's quite easy.
Kevin is an Excellent math teacher, also he has a HUGE heart and really does understand that life is not always a bed of roses, you just have to talk to him! Anyone can learn A TON from him!
Great instructor. He strives to ensure that each student understands the required course information. Tests are fair and representative of his lecture material. Very approachable and loves when students ask questions. I would take another math course he taught. Thanks, Kevin
wouldn't recommend him for anyone.
I have taken trig and calc with him. I'd take every math class with him if I could. He does mumble a lot bot he knows what he's talking about. He's kind of odd, but he cares about what he does and is willing to level with you if you talk to him and explain your reasoning. He's exceptional and I'd recommend him to every person I know.
Had for a trigonometry class. -> Mumbles A LOT. -> Exudes an intimidating and unapproachable personality. -> Treats his students as incomperable inferiors. -> Seems cavalier and insincere about grading.
This teacher is incredibly hard to understand (mumbles a lot) and is very unapproachable. His tests are very hard, and test the exception to the rule rather than what you have been actually learning. If you have him, DO NOT THINK THAT IF YOU CAN COMPLETE THE REVIEW YOU CAN PASS THE TEST.
Wost math teacher I have ever had. Can NOT understand a word he says. Also does NOT care to explain things. Grades way too hard for minimal mistakes in work! Leaves for a week then has a test of what a sub has covered then marks a lot wrong(i.e. The subs way is wrong, so you are wrong) Does not work well with students. Waste of my money and time.
Kevin is a nice guy. If you dont ask questions he will skip a LOT of steps. Reviews dont come with answers and exams are mucher harder then reviews. He will try to trick you as much as he can. Grading was kinda harsh. NO credit for work only correct answers.
I like'd Kevin's class. It was hard but I learned a lot. He does grade hard, but he is very fair. Most people that do bad either think they are smarter than they actually are or don't do the work. The exams I didn't do as well on as I would have liked to were the ones I didn't have time to do all of the homework for.
He DOES care if people understand. Also, he does mumble a lot and he moves at a fast pace. If you're comfortable with math it's not too bad, but I'm not comfortable with math. Seems to be a little more interested in showing off, but he does know his stuff. Don't miss any classes, he has designed his quiz schedule to make attendance mandatory.
He's hard to understand, but the poor thing stutters, so I can't blame him. Also, you can't say he skips parts if you don't really pay attention during class. He will actually go over the quizzes in class, even if he has to cover all of the questions. He is very understand and at times a show off, but he is not against suggestions.
Lieth is a proffessor. This means that he does not make it his duty to pass everyone who steps through the door. He does mumble, but he writes everything he says on the board. He is straight to business, and is very familiar with the subject. If you ask he will explain everything to you. He is hard; the key is to ask questions.
Says the same lines over and over everyday. Has a lisp and thus is hard to understand. Class was really boring. Tests were hard! Only 10 questions that are as hard as he can make them and he takes off big for every little thing. Luckily he did curve fairly big. Take someone else if possible.
He is an amazing teacher. I had him for College Algebra, Trig, Calc I, II, and III. I would never have finished a bachelors in Mathematics if it were not for him.
Mr. Leith is a very nice insructor but comes across unapproachable. If you ask questions he will answer you. He IS hard to understand (I sat in front)and does intentionally make his tests as difficult as he possibly can and tries to trick you. I had to audit thinking I might learn something to help me when I retake this class. Don't recommnd.
he is by far the worst math teacher i have ever had. I have passed every prior math class with an A, his i barely passed. He mumbles, makes you feel like an idiot if you ask questions, and his test are completely different form his reviews. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM
Barely passed the class, I had to follow the text book and stop listening to to him. He continuously made strange jokes, I think he is very hard to follow. I passed my next math (1315) with an A, but almost failed his math 1310 class.
Just started his class.. he seems like he enjoys teaching but you can barely understand anything he says.. and he spends tons of time going on about useless things.. when he should stay focused and teach.
I took Kevin for Calc 1&3. The only reason I didn't take him for 2 is b/c he wasnt teaching it. Sit front row & have FUN with the class! You can learn AND have fun. That's the whole point of his goofy jokes. Best teacher I've ever had. It's sad he gives takehome quizzes & test review &ppl whine. The tests are those plus some hw. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I was hesitant above taking a class with Kevin because he's gotten some bad reviews, but I LOVE his class. He is a bit hard to understand at times because of his speech disability, but he is SO helpful and makes sure everybody really understands what we're going through. If I could, I'd definitely take another class with him. Great teacher!
He's good if you don't like an interactive class. All we did was sit there while he lectured. He is easy to follow on the board, but his speech is really hard to understand. For about the first two weeks he is not understandable at all.
One of the best teachers I ever had. Had four classed with him. Not for everyone. You must want to actually learn something.
Fantastic, experienced teacher who has designed his course to allow anyone willing to do the work to succeed. As has been noted, his speech can be hard to understand at times, but he's completely open to questions, going back over material, and allowing students to express their own understanding of math- it's not "his way or the highway."
I wouldn't take this teacher again. I had trouble understanding his speech sometimes. If you're not prepared to do work you won't pass. quizzes every week that are take home, 3 major exams and the final. He's helpful if you're unsure and is willing to help and go over things.
If you want to be a math major I suggest you take him, but he'll make you work!!
One of the worst teachers i have ever taken at CNM. never clear, doesn't care if your struggling. Talks about random stuff. He has no energy in him nor in the class
Test reviews are nothing like the actual tests. Quizzes and tests have nothing to do with assigned homework. Very hard to understand. Quite possibly the worst math teacher I've had at CNM. Rude insulting and an overall unpleasant person. Avoid Kevin and Judy Lalani at all costs, unless you are a math wizz.
If you want to learn calculus this is the man to learn it from, but you're going to work for it. Getting a C in his class is a B in someone elses' class. If you're looking to skate through calculus take someone else. The quizzes and the test reviews are the key to his class. If you have a question, ASK. I enjoyed his dry sense of humor.
He is very hard to understand, you eventually get use it. He talks about random things, fast pace. Wouldnt recommend, especially if you arent familiar with the material.
Kevin is about making you think, and gives credit for effort. He makes his own quizzes/reviews; they're designed such that if you can do them, you can pass the tests if you take good notes and review them. He's not about feeding your ego, he's about teaching you MATH. This is my third class with him; I love his levity and no-nonsense approach.
Dude has a gnarly southern accent. I couldn't understand him whatsoever. Some people like him, some people absolutely hate him. I guess it's kinda hard to say how you will react to him. I like when a teacher does nothing but talk about mathematics. It's very discouraging going to a class you can't understand what he's saying and he side talks.
Kevin knows his stuff. But I wish he spent more time explaining why we do things the way we do. Tho I got an A in the class, I never felt confident. He is willing to work with you during office hours, but doesn't go into the whys. Avoid if you need clear explanations. I used Khan Academy to help with final studies and got some good stuff there.
Find another instructor! His exam reviews are completely different from the actual exams especially for the final. Final review took 30 mins in class and was very simplistic, the final was 100% different and very few people even finished. Very disappointing and misleading. I ruined my 4.0 by taking this course.
First, if you aren't going for an engineering, physics, or similar type of degree, he may not be for you. Kevin gives tough test but I have never gotten so much partial credit. USUALLY 3/5 of the problems on test are pretty simple, but he throws the hard ones in randomly, so write something down on the hard ones and finish the easy ones first.
I thought he was very fair and you do have to study for his class a lot, but doing the online quizzes gives you more than enough practice to prepare for his exams.
I enjoyed Kevin's style. I wish my schedule allowed for me to take Calc 3 with him and that he taught Diff EQ's. I took Calc 1 and 2 with him. Did well in both and learned the material well. I have referred others to him and they couldn't stand him. Too bad for them, I wish I could take all of my math courses with him.
Worst math class I have ever taken. Mr. Leith shows no care or concern when students are visibly confused. He assigns online quizzes that are very time intensive and confusing. He gives study guides out which do not correlate to the actual test material. Not many passed this class- most dropped it due to failing grade.
Not the easiest, but not the hardest either. His brain is on a whole different level, which can cause problems when he is giving lectures and can't explain things simply. But his test reviews are very similar to the tests, his quizzes are online, take-home, infinite-attempt so you can prepare for the test (and get some grades for effort).
Mr. Leith’s lectures, reviews and test are all very similar. Online quizzes are mandatory and annoying but intended to boost the student’s grade. Kevin does his job: presents new material, reviews relevant material from previous classes, provides helpful reviews and returns tests the next class period.
This is a teacher who will lecture you on how to do a basic problem in the math book section. He uses the online quizzes for the majority of your grade and then tests. You will only be graded on these things so no homework for credit. The tests are fairly easy if you know what he lectured. You must be able to teach yourself as well.
Took Mr. leith for trig and calculus 1 and enjoyed both classes. The grading policy is simple and strait forward. Also work hard on your quizzes and you will be fine. He reviewed all tests including practice Exams. I never had a problem understanding K nor does he mumble. I will miss this class, I wish I had an opportunity to take his calc 2 class.
Take Kevinlearn math. Do homework, do well on open book online quizzes(from homework), study (usu. 3 tests1 final), ask questions in office hour&class. He's helpful. His lectures are clearrelevant. Meticulous grader, gives partial credit. May curve sometimes but did not in my class due to some A's. Had him for Cal II and taking him for Cal III.
Kevin teaches well. He is clear, fair, and knowledgeable. Do homework, online quizzes (can retake), take notes in class and work them. If you don't get something, ask Kevin in office hour. He will help you understand anything. He gives good lectures. The quizzes are straight from the homework.
I spent many hours doing homework and studying har, but apparently not hard enough. I actually enjoyed lectures and was usually engaged the entire class period. Online quizesbig waste of time I could have spent doing more hw. I don't want to have to do a 2 hour quiz over if I mistyped a number. Felt I deserved a B :(. Test reviews not helpful
Boring class. Does not give strait answers to student questions. Will tell you something is ok to do on a test then mark you wrong and not give points back. He tells you that he will lie to you so you never know if he is being truthful or sending you down the wrong path again. Montoya Campus is in need of a better math teacher.
Kevin is an excellent lecturer. He thoroughly answered any question I asked. His tests are like the homework and quizzes. It helped me to rework problems given for homework, exam reviews, and in the class problems from lectures before the exams. Make sure to memorize the definitions given in class. I learned a lot from Kevin and am glad I had him.
Kevin Leith assigns homework but does not collect it. He's helpful with any questions regarding the lectures or homework material. Doing well on quizzes (work hard!) helps your grade. Exams are from lecture material. Kevin's a good lecturer, paces the course extremely well, gives good test reviews, and loves his subject. Highly recommended.
Good math instructor. Clear, slow lecturer, good for taking notes. Online quizzes are like homework; you can access them for several weeks and have unlimited retakes. VERY helpful in class with covered chapters, will answer virtually anything in office hour. I visited every week with homeworkquiz questions and got help. Gives good practice exams.
He clarifies how book sections correspond to the lectures. He helps in office hours. (As he says, it is his job.) He paces the class; he covers material, assigns homework (ungraded), gives at home quizzes, gives the practice exam (goes over if requested), and gives an exam before covering new material. Comparing quizzes with classmates allowed.
Great class. Kevin helps you learn the math well with a good spread of problem types. Homework assigned but not graded. At home quizzes are graded. Another student and I got stuck on one quiz problem, but when we took our scratch to office hour, Kevin helped us out. He gives practice tests before the actual tests.
Kevin lectures at a good pace. He knows his math. He is respectful to students. He tests what he teaches. He gives graded home quizzes. Assigned homework is ungraded (but important). Kevin answers questions in office hours or sometimes after class. (Some people prefer to ask in class too, I just prefer one-on-one.)
I had Kevin for trigonometry, calculus I, calculus II, and calculus III. I loved his organization and solid lectures. He had a good sense of humor, and he liked his subject. Back then, I was kind of wondering if I should pursue a bachelors degree. Kevins suggested that college is fun. Teachers with good attitudes help make learning fun.
Great teacher! Tests very similar to reviews, which he spends a whole class period going over before the test. Also goes over test for an entire class period after handing it back so people can ask questions. Good about saving class time for homework questions. Just do the homework to prepare for tests and you will be fine.
He goes through materials at a reasonable pace but he does show his useful methods so prepare to take vigorous notes. He has a couple exams but he used mymathlab which is extremely difficult and frustrating to go between different methods. He does give difficult problems on the exams but does prepare you for the wors and embeds the material in mind
Kevin was excellent at teaching Calc I. He is great at teaching maxima, minima, and points of inflection. Tests are fair as all problems come from the concepts covered in lectures. He answers questions respectfully and loves his subject. He gave "practice exams," which were not graded, that helped me prepare for the exams. I loved his course!
I saw a lot of negative feedback on this guy and took the class anyways. Best mistake I could have made. This guys class is tough but not impossible at all. You will spend a lot of time on math lab, which blows. If you don't want to work, take another class. If you do, you will come out extremely prepared for 1315.
Kevin lectures what he tests on. He follows the schedule, covers reviews and tests in class. Quizzes are basically homework. If his examples confuse you, request clarification. He's not humiliating you! 3rd test was examples right out of the book & final was almost identical to the review he worked in class. Do the homework, ask for help!
He wrote backwards when he ran out of room on the board which was REALLY hard to read. Learned from youtube videos nuff said.
