He has a weird accent which confused me a lot during the beginning of the quarter but one can easily get used to it as time passes by. Lectures are super helpful so do not ditch! He does not give partial points on exams so come prepared! Biweekly quizzes are based on similar hw questions
Very helpful during office hours. He explains things patiently and clearly.
The exams are similar to the sample. Only some numbers changed!!
He is very handsome, so paying attention isn't hard. He does go a little fast when he lectures, but he has a lot of resources available to help you. Practice exams are pretty similar to real exams and he provides lecture summaries after every class. Although I did not do too well, as the material itself was challenging to me, he is a good professor
He was a great professor and his study guides for the midterms and final were extremely useful. His lectures are clear and concise but to succeed in the class you do have to do the hw for practice and take notes from the text book from time to time. Great professor though, I would definitely recommend!
He has an accent, but you get used to it. It feels like he goes fast during lecture, but it's mostly just proofs so you don't need to remember it all. The exams are pretty much the same as the practice exams. The review lectures right before each exam are the very helpful.
Practice tests are same as the real tests, only with different numbers. Lectures do go pretty fast so doing the homework will be a good idea! Biweekly quizzes are a good way to encourage students to do the homework.
He is really cute which makes going to class enjoyable...yet hard to pay attention. ;) He is also a great lecturer. Makes things easy to understand.
Not bad at explaining concepts. Small accent, but not bad. Sometimes goes quick, but asking questions in class gets him to explain further. Midterms and final are very similar to practice tests. Good professor, overall.
He's very funny and periodically makes little puns and jokes, keeping the class having a good time. He makes math enjoyable and is very clear when explaining lessons. He answers questions throughout the lecture and asks the entire hall if everybody's on track. There are ten optional homework assignments over the course of the entire quarter.
Pretty good. Clear objectives. Homework was not for a grade but was usually very helpful. You should probably do it if you to do well. Tests were similar to practice tests, but I was sometimes surprised about what the quizzes covered. He can a be bit hard to follow in lecture--goes kinda fast and doesn't always explain things the clearest way.
Great teacher! This is one of the hardest math classes in the whole major of Mathematics and he made it possible for students. Many people passed in my class and a third of the class ended up with A- or A. I was glad I had him as a teacher for MAT 150 and would recommend him for any other math class in Davis.
wonderful guy. will definitely take it again.
IMO his lectures were a bit confusing. He rushes & partially because of his grammar - English is not his first language but it's not that bad. He's really helpful if you go to him after class or during office hours. He also tries to make jokes during lecture which are sometimes funny. I like him a lot, just a hard class. Also he's hot!!
Luli was a really good teacher for 21c. Some people say he has a slight accent, but that wasn't a problem for me. His practice tests are almost exactly like his real tests, so just know how to do them and you'll get an A. He really knows his stuff and is very helpful in office hours.
Very informative lectures that were pretty easy to follow. His practice midterms and final were pretty much the same as the actual ones. Overall a pretty easy class.
Kevin is not good at explaining and illustrating mathematical theorems. You should not expect to learn from lectures. His lectures are terrible and totally out of logic. If you want to get a good grade, you'd better do homework and ask your TA.
Professor Luli is my favorite math teacher! I didn't necessarily follow everything in his lectures but his practice exams are good review for his tests. He is really funny in class so thats good. Also he is cute and so it is really easy to stare at him during lecture..I wonder if he is single...:p
Five quizzes that are 20% altogether, 2 midterms 20% each, 40% final. Lectures were mostly proofs, but that's to be expected at this level of learning. Averages were pretty high, tests were similar to the practice ones, overall pretty good class. Do the homework and extra practice problems if you want an A.
Lectures are not helpful, gotta study on your own. HARDEST TESTS possible.
Many people say he's cute; I couldn't agree more! This was a tough class in a sense that new calculus concepts were introduced (sequences, series, taylor series, etc). There are proofs, but focus more on understanding them instead of memorizing them. He is knowledgable in the matter, always available with enthusiasm at office hours. Has mild accent
Professor Luli could be hard to understand during lectures due to his accent. MAT 21A grade based off 6 bi-weekly quizzes, two midterms, and a final. Midterms and finals are hard unless the material is practiced religiously. Additionally, lectures could be perceived as somewhat confusing due to the methods and language he uses to explain concepts.
Not an easy class, and he sometimes made the material seem more difficult that it already was. But he was great w/ questions (even the most convoluted &/or stupid ones) and his midterm/final review problems were immensely helpful. DO THEM TILL YOU GET THEM. Grading scale like Gravner's, ungraded HW (DO THIS TOO), cute, & generally understandable.
Luli was ok. He has optional homework, weekly quizzes, two midterms, and a final. His lectures are very boring and I skipped them a lot because I didn't get anything out of them. He overcomplicates a lot of problems on the tests and quizzes which was really annoying. Doing the optional homework was what helped me pass, along with my TA.
Professor Luli is really nice and helpful. Grading consists of biweekly quizzes, 2 mid and 1 final. good professor who explains things clearly and answers questions in lectures. Really recommended.
Lectures are hard to follow and overcomplicate simple differential calculus. Homework and test problems are not similar. Study guides are not very helpful. Partial credit is generous on problems. Everyone did poorly so the curve saved me.
Lulu, one of my Best Math 21C teacher. I used to got B- for 21B. For him, I got A+. He gives high of percentage grades in homeworks. Which means as long as you finish your homework one time and property. This could be an easy A class.
Covid19 and BLM protests made the class "easier"-- optional final (if you took it he would replace your lower MT grade, if you did better). 30% MyLab homework. 20% each MT, supposed to be 30% final. Video lectures. Doesn't respond to all emails so go to his OH. Shoutout to TA Raymond C. for making a Discord to help everyone during this online class
Prof. Luli was very understanding of the circumstances in which the class was taken. All the midterms were open note and the final was optional. His lecture videos were sometimes confusing and had proofs, but overall they were pretty good and there was never any proofs on the tests.
Luli explains Calculus concepts more clearly than any math professor I've had. Whenever I struggles with a concept upon first read in the textbook, I almost always had an "A-ha!" moment after watching the corresponding video lecture.
Although he wasn't the best lecturer, Luli is very accommodating and definitely loves his subject. His lectures were a bit rambling and hard to understand, but they were informative and eventually helpful. Hes very accessible and truly wants the best for his students - he introduced partial credit, made finals optional, extended deadlines. KING
Luli was amazingly supportive and accommodating to us. There was an issue with myLab and he gave us an extension of the homework and the midterm without any extra topics. And when the protests started, he made our final optional and dropped our lowest test grade. He doesn't respond to emails but he reads them. Advocate for yourself and he listens.
I really like Luli and he is adorable. His lectures are very packed so be prepared for that. Sometimes he goes too deep into a concept you don't need know. He is very nice and accessible. Also expect "ok so" at least 20 times per lecture.
Luli is a really good lecturer, compared to other math profs. He tends to get lost in details or proofs but its only because he is really excited about it. His MyLab homework took a couple hours a week but was worth a lot for your grade. Tests were online and open book/notes due to COVID, not too bad. Only problem is that he curved grades down.
Professor makes online course easy. Drop lowest score of HW and 3 exams. The first A i got from 21 series.
The lecture is not as good as my formal teachers, so I need to learn from homework. But scoring is loose, you can get a high grade very easy.
Luli was really great and understanding! Lectures were packed and could be confusing at times but he is extremely knowledgable. MyLab homeworks every week took really long, but they help you understand the material better. The practice midterms/final are helpful for the actual thing. Overall a good experience!
Was super considerate given the COVID situation, extended due dates for homework and pushed back midterm dates, also made his final optional. He genuinely cares for his students and does his best during lecture to make the material interesting and understandable. He even said thank you to us for sticking with him through these these trying times :)
Luli was an amazing professor, he made the topics clear and went over many examples and made sure the students understood, especially during the discussions. He is very friendly so its easy to ask questions. One small complaint is that he made the proofs in the beginning of the class a bit confusing, but it got way better after that.
I took this class during Fall 2020. It was well structured, the only synchronous parts were the midterm and final. The material could be confusing and his lectures were a little slow, but it got better in the second half of the quarter. He was very helpful and cared about the students. It's important to do the hw because it was similar to the tests
Luli isn't a bad professor by any means but isn't the best either. What I didn't like was that he recorded his lectures, meaning we had no interactions with him, outside of his office hours, or during the final review. He also had a thick accent, so make sure you take that into account. I struggled mostly because of those two factors.
I personally thought MAT21C wasn't difficult. Took it remote during Fall 2020. Exams were easy as long as you understood all the hw assignments, and his lectures are clear except for some random proofs. Went to his office hours a few times and he's a sweet/helpful professor. Overall, you can do well in the class as long as you put in effort.
Homework was graded using online platform so if you typed something wrong you got the question wrong. same for tests. Midterms and final made up 70% of the grade. If you bomb one of the tests, you aren't going to be able to make it up easily. Very small curve.
The lectures are just not good. You have to use other resources to learn the material because of how disorganized and insufficient the lectures are.
Being an online class, the professor rarely looked at the Zoom chats during class, which made it hard for students to communicate their concerns, other than blatantly interrupting the professor. He skimmed over a lot of concepts, which often confused students on what he was doing to explain the problem.
Amazing professor. His online exams were very easy and they were open notes. Class average over all the midterms and finals were in the 80% range so the curve was very small. Only reason I did not give him a 5 is because he gives a lot of hw. There are 3 problem sets per week that correspond with each lecture and they are very time consuming.
He's a decent professor. One of the better professors in the math department, but he isn't amazing either. Lots of hw, uses mylab which cost around $7-80. His tests were easy (online with open notes), and the average was high (around 80%) so there was no curve.
Dr. Luli is not the best lecturer (slightly disorganized and can be confusing) but he does present all the necessary information and has clear expectations. He is very caring and stays up to 30 minutes after lecture to answer questions. Homework is helpful and relevant: 20-30 problems per week and 30% of your grade. Tests are on the easier side.
Professor Luli may not have amazing lecture formats at first, but it gets better over time. Useful to attend OH for him and the TA. His exams are very similar to the practice so make sure to do the practice. Curves the overall grade at the end of the quarter depending on how people did on the exams.
Class was picking a problem in math, doing a paper on it, and then doing a presentation. That + evaluating other presentations. It's a three way split, so effectively you're graded on two things, but it was EASY. You can basically just give everyone full credit. The professor's only really there for the first few lectures. Honestly, pretty fun imo.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN !!!
TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET !!!
Top class scholar and professor. Very good slides and recorded lectures. But get ready to work hard! He covered 30% more than the syllabus. Do the HW, so you can do his practice problems. Do the practice problems so you can handle his exams- which are fair and twists to the practice problems. You can be in real trouble if you do not study!
Very good professor. He gives 20% curve in his math class. Everyone will get a A in this class
Test homework easy. Teacher patient. You can drop three lowest homework total is seven.
midterms were easy, he explains everything clearly and answers every question you have. Take him you won't regret it!
Decent professor, didn't like the PowerPoint notes. He goes pretty fast and isn't that understanding when you ask him questions. Midterms were very easy and exactly like the practice exams. The final was much tougher but hopefully the class is curved well!
he is not the best professor and is kinda rude if you don't understand something, but his tests are straightforward and he gives practice beforehand.
Luli was a solid professor for 21C, he is accepting to questions and is very caring. The final was definitely more difficult than the midterms but the questions are similar to the practice exams. Homework is worth a lot but it is based on lectures rather than the week.
Willing to help students and provide sample exams(which is highly similar to the test). Best professor in math department
Good and clear lectures which solidly prepare you for exams and don't get too advanced for this level of math. The professor and TAs post lots and lots of helpful resources online too. Exams have reasonable content, difficulty and length. The discussions cover the topics which students choose. Do know that all the homework is through Pearson MyLab.
Luli is a solid professor. His lectures are very clear and he teaches through many examples, so if examples help you learn he's the way to go. He's very open to questions and encourages participation. The practice midterms are very similar to the actual midterms. The only reason I didn't give him a 5 is because he assigns a lot of time consuming HW
Poorly organized lectures and canvas page. The proofs provided were often messy and confusing. Avoid if you want to intuitively learn analysis; easy midtemrs, but grading criterion were strange, often putting a decent chunk of the grade on a single problem that was not reasonable for the time constraint.
Professor Luli is God's Gift to Earth. He is a very caring professor who teaches very well. I understood all the concepts taught through the lectures he gave and the resources he provided such as the homework. The tests are similar to the practice tests so a clear guideline of what material will be covered is given. Professor Luli has inspired me.
Lectures are clear and to the point, making the content easy to understand. Lectures recordings and notes are posted on Canvas. He gives practice problems before exams and exams are similar to practice. Homework is also easy to complete. Also listens to students' feedback to improve the class overall. 100% would take again if I could.
Hes very straightforward in lectures. Never wastes time. He also has a fairly lenient curve. My only complaint is that he does not give A+. Otherwise, hes pretty good.
GOAT. His study guides were similar to midterms so you are rarely surprised. Content presented in approachable way.
The grading criteria are strange. The syllabus says we are curved eventually but we are not.
Cool professor Not hard to pass LOTS of homework curves at the end of the quarter so you cant tell where you stand normally discussions are helpful do the practice tests for the midterms and final because they are pretty much the same tests with different variables.
Straightforward lectures that have everything you need. Generally helpful and answers questions. Quite a bit of HW but not too much and pretty forgiving. Exams very similar to study guides which help a lot as most of the course weight is exams. Grading is lenient but the curve is small, and the final is considerably more difficult so be wary.
Good professor, lectures explain concepts pretty well, responds to feedback from class. Lowest two homework scores dropped. Practice midterms are very similar to actual midterms.
Very organized and clear lectures and slides. 2 midterms pretty much exactly like the practice exams given. Kinda lot of online HW but do your best to stay on top of things and you'll be fine. Lectures are a bit too quick for copying down slides so I'd take a look at the slides and take notes beforehand if possible. Great professor
Best math professor I have had. His lectures are super great, he makes the concepts very easy to understand. His midterms are really similar to the practice midterms. His final is a but though, but nothing you can't do well on without studying. His exams are very fair.
He's really kind and caring. Lectures are pretty fast paced, but they're recorded so you can review later. Midterms are VERY similar to the practice tests. Very kind and easy to ask questions to during office hours and will do his best to explain everything to you.
Solid professor, biggest gripe is the amount of homework that is assigned. Pretty difficult final too. Would take again though.
Tests are true to the study guide/practice tests so nothing catches you by surprise. Lectures are confusing/boring sometimes, but textbook help. Was not a hard class
Prof. Luli is very kind and sociable, but his class should be avoided at all costs. The lectures are severely disorganized and hard to follow, and it's painfully obvious he is proving theorems in real-time. His study guides are riddled with errors (some making it onto the midterm). You *will* have to rely on the curve to pass.
Just need to understand the lecture slides and do the hw, it is okay to understand this course. There will be study guide and practice exam before EVERY exam. This class is relatively easy to get a high score, so the professor curved down the scores, but the curve was very reasonable.
Luli's a solid professor. His lectures are to the point and his midterms and final are similar to the study guides. That said, there is little room for error. Even though partial credit is given liberally on exams, because 2 midterms and a final make up 70% of the grade, and the class isn't curved, a few mistakes can easily drop you a letter grade.
If I was learning series for the first time, this may not have been too easy of a class, and his lectures are not the best. However, midterms are extremely easy as they're practically identical to the ones on the review pdf. The final is similar but arguably a bit more difficult.
Doesn't lecture that well, and the homework is confusing at times. But in terms of exams, the review is literally identical and he goes over everything in great detail. The final is slightly more difficult that the midterms, but still extremely easy. Class had no curve because the midterm averages were both over 90%.
Mostly thorough in lectures, but found myself lost/confused at times with concepts disconnected from applications. Sometimes didn't finish lecture material, covered in next class. HW took hours. Midterms were practice exams with different values. Final similar & fair, tested some concepts not in practice. Beware of lack of partial credit on exams.
The class used Pearson MyLab for the homework, which I now hate with every fiber of my being, though that isn't the professor's fault really. Don't skip the homework even if it doesn't count against you, because that caused me to get an A- instead of an A. (I goofed on the final)
Lectures are clear and simple to understand especially considering the course content. Homework is pretty short, although sometimes includes some confusing questions. Exams are all very reasonable and never includes anything that we were not taught. Also provides very useful review material, lectures recorded as well
Doesn't hesitate to answer questions. Tests are easy if you get the study guide problems down. Memorize the study guide problems! Syllabus says he curves but he didn't, which is good as the average for the tests was around 90%. I'm not great at math but I got an A thanks to him. He's probably your best bet compared to other professors.
Dr. Luli was a decent lecturer but is overhyped. I didn't personally like his style. Midterms identical to practice questions, the final was on the more difficult side.
Super great professor. Had a bit of a hard time fully understanding the second half of the material but he still taught in a way where I was still able to answer questions on the homework and midterms/final. His midterms and final were exactly like his practice ones. The questions were very straightforward. Homework is hard but not impossible.
This is an easy class. The grade is based on participation, a 25-minute presentation, and a paper — there's no exam.
Straightforward in his teaching style and content, tests and quizzes were essentially taken out of the homework. He values class participation and engagement a lot.
Great guy! Make sure to study the homeworks when building up to the tests. Also the practice exams are very similar so make sure to study the entire thing. Great class and one of the best math classes I've taken at Davis.
beware the fact that there will be ZERO formulas given on exams and you're expected to remember everything. his grading criteria is confusing and he'll mark down heavily for small things like notation with little partial credit given. his lectures are confusing to understand because of his accent coupled with his mask and talking quietly.
He's like lowkey the goat of MAT21C
If Kevin has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Kevin has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Kevin has only one fan, then that is me. If Kevin has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Kevin, then I am against the world.
Explained concepts fairly well with examples, TAs also super helpful and hardworking! Hw sometimes took a while, but practice resources provided (answers reviewed in class) were very similar to the real exams. Midterms overall pretty easy, final definitely more difficult. Lectures stopped being recorded a few weeks into the quarter.
There is homework for every lecture but they have multiple tries so you can always get full credit. Make sure to study the practice exams! He really gives you everything you need on them. While lecture isn't mandatory, he explains concepts really well in person and if you don't go it can be hard to keep up. Highly recommended taking him.
He's an excellent professor. Because each class is only 50 min long, it's best to ask questions after class or during office hours. He's very approachable and encourages students to focus on understanding the concepts rather than memorizing formulas. Attending the TAs' discussion sessions and completing all the practice exams is highly recommended.

Luli's lectures are sometimes rushed/confusing but his teaching is great. His lectures are effective, his TAs (shoutout Kenton Ke and Jake Quinn) are very helpful, his tests are never too devious, and he provides ample material for you to do well. Stay on top of homework, go to office hours with questions, and do the sample problems provided.
Decent teacher. I just like that he posts his slides and the videos of the lectures, they're very helpful.
He is pretty generous on grading. Exams are easy: the 2nd midterm I took is exactly the same as the practice exam I took besides some minor revisions on numerical values. However, his lecturing might not be perfectly clear to everyone, and his slides are bit confusing occasionally. It's the best to self-study and go thru slides and practice exams.
Great guy. Lectures were 50mins, so it was occasionally rushed. He focused on understanding the topics rather than purely memorizing. TAs were amazing (Jake was fantastic- thanks Jake!). Go to OH, stay on top of HW (start each after the respective lecture), ask qs before or after class, use online materials to help you. Tough class but great prof!
Even in Real Analysis III, homeworks and exams filled with hackwork computational problems that could be solved by fourteen-year-olds with a formula sheet. First third of the class wasted on elementary review of matrix rank, open set and epsilon-delta proof.
