Matthews is an amazing professor. There are a lot of projects in this class of course but he offers a lot of help and we did do examples in class. I've never coded before and Visual Basic was so easy to learn. I would definitely recommend anyone who hasn't coded before to take his class, he is awesome. I am so taking him for 310!

He is awesome! with a lot of sense of humor. He is very helpful! Def take him! Do the projects and you'll be fine... every quiz/test has a question "do u want to get 50 on the test at least?" - id suggest answering Yes haha

He is a great teacher. He has great study material and review sessions. If you apply yourself their is no reason not to get an A. I got a 99.6 in the class but i did have to study. As long as you do good on the labs and study over the review materials the class is easy. He is an Awesome Teacher! I highly recommend him.

Literally best professor you could take for MIS. Some might find the lab assignments a little difficult, but he is always willing to help you in any way you can. Review the slides well before the test and you will do great. Seriously no reason you should not get an A in this course.

Really great teacher in every aspect. Super helpful and cared if his students are really learning the material. He gives a guide on how to do the labs in Access and Excel which give really clear directions and help you comprehend some of the tougher tactics in this class.

What a great teacher! He is blunt and straight to the point, which is the way I like my teachers to be. He is extremely helpful and cares if you are actually learning. Matthews is always on top of his emails. The class material is also very easy. you can miss 3 classes, some are hard to stay awake in that's because the material is boring not him.

Wonderful teacher. I had never done any sort of programming and he breaks it down into terms you can understand. One thing I didn't like was the time available for projects. I would liked to have had a couple of more days to work with and figure them out..since I am relatively new to this. Other than that it's a fun class!

Mr. Matthews is one of the best professors I've had! Pay attention to the powerpoints. He gives you plenty of opportunities to get extra help and really spells things out clearly in his lectures. Pay attention and be active in class. If you do, you'll most likely be rewarded with not having to attend some lab days if you don't need the extra help!

The class is mandatory, but you only have to go to class on Friday's if you need help with your lab, and then once a month when you have a quiz. I would definitely recommend taking him!

Class is laid out that you normally do an in class assigment before you do a project so you can kinda see that the project is suppose to look like. He is very helpful and available if you have any questions. Good class!

Mr. Matthews was a great teacher! He was helpful if you had a question & was pretty laid back. Attendance is taken everyday unless it was a lab day because you recieve a grade for it. I had changed my major to business but completely hate it,so I am going back to nursing. Although I don't like my current classes, I did enjoy this one! Take him:)

Awesome class. I hadn't ever really programmed, but Kevin made it fun. There are a lot of projects, but you do an in class assignment similar to the project. He is available outside of class to help you too! If you have to take any MIs classes take them with him!

Professor matthews class is seriously my favorite class. Not just because I am a MIS major but he is just a great guy in general. You have in class assignments before every project that he goes through and does with you, and they are extremely helpful with the projects. I would highly recommend taking him for anything.

Mr. Matthews is without a doubt the best teacher I've had at UNCW. He is crystal clear, willing to help, and very knowledgeable. Kevin is a really great teacher. Programming can be tricky if your not really good at it but he does a really good job explaining everything and is is always there is you need extra help. As long as you go to class and pay attention there is really no need for studying and you should do good on all the quizzes and tests! I recommend him!

Professor Matthews' class was great! I took it online which I definitely recommend because all assignments are on the computer anyway, and your tests will be online as well. He sent out regular reminders and if you had a question about something he was really good about getting back to you fairly quick. I definitely recommend taking his class!

Kevin Matthews is the reason I became an MIS major. I took both MIS 213 and 216 with him. He always makes sure that you are comfortable witht the class, and he is readily availabe if you aren't. The projects and assignments you work on are more fun than work. I cannot reccomend him highly enough!

IF THE CLASS IS REQUIRED TAKE MR. MATTHEWS, TAKE IT ONLINE, MAKE USE OF THE PREGRADING, ASK HIM QUESTIONS ABOUT ASSIGNMENTS BEFORE THE LAST MINUTE, AND TURN IN ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME AND WALA AN A! HE IS MORE THAN HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING. THE MATERIAL CAN BE HARD, BUT IF YOU GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO EMAIL QUESTIONS AND USE PREGRADING YOU WILL DO WELL.

I took MIS 213 online so it's hard to say a lot about Matthews but as far as the online class went he was very proactive in helping you to succeed. He was very helpful in sending emails reminding you of upcoming deadlines and was willing to help me out and give me a warning when I had computer trouble.

Professor Matthews is a wicked good online teacher to take, I am not very good at keeping a schedule all the time so his consistent email reminders are really helpful. I even had a conflict and missed a quiz, after talking to him about my situation he gave me an opportunity to make it up!

The subject matter for this class was very dry, but Mr. Matthews did a good job of incorporating in-class projects and assignments into the curriculum to break up the class so it wasn't as boring and also so that we learned more! straight and direct until project 4 and than there are things on projects not shown in class. In-classes were good at first and than became a rush to keep up. Quiz's and Tests are easy. Basic concepts are well explained during lecture. Overall not an easy class but not to hard to get a decent grade.

Instructions clearly typed in the booklet to complete each lab and tests are easier version of it and knowledge part is easy to. If you got a question send him an email. he explains concepts in lecture very well. There is a pregrade on entropy and if not 100 there will be comments explaining your mistakes. easier than MIS216

The subject matter is basic, but I enjoyed going to class because of Kevin. He was very clear and obviously wants students to do well. Going to class is pretty crucial to succeed, but it's worth the effort so you don't struggle to figure out how to do projects on your own. Sometimes he's a bit snarky, but it's hilarious. He's awesome!

Took Kevin for MIS213, we used the lab manual a lot but you don't need the textbook if you take notes in class. His instructions were very clear and he stuck to the syllabus. Attendance is mandatory but we only meet twice a week. Good professor made the course work interesting and relatable, also engages the class in discussion.

Matthews is a GREAT professor for this class. It is a intro class to coding, but helps you build the foundation you will need for later. Really enjoyed him as an instructor.

Pay attention and you'll do great. Cares more about effort than accuracy. Light workload and stress free. What you do in class is what you're tested on, no curveballs. Slow and easy pace. All online during COVID-19, and provided videos with clear examples and instructions. Wish I could have him for the rest of my courses.

Great professor! He is always willing to help and does a really good job at explaining things so you understand them. I took him for MIS 310 and MIS 316 and both are really fun and somewhat challenging courses, but he makes them doable. He is also very flexible with assignment due dates.

Honestly, I took him previously for 316 and was scared of the participation because I'm very introverted. He has dim down as a whole and try to engage the class as a whole. It makes me feel like he takes feedback well. Very fair in grades, and assignments, and teaches very well in class.

Dr. Matthews is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He knows exactly how to get students to work in my opinion, he allows for online homework and a quiz for each section with one exam as a midterm. Good amount of homework but it's all very doable. Unique grading system in that you just have to do everything and all your assignments/tests/quizzes need to average a certain amount to get a certain letter grade, so it's very forgiving. Really cares about the quality of learning you get, but doesn't expect too much from you.

He will take you from 0 knowledge of webpage design to, in the end, being able to create your website with anything you want. GRADE BUNDLES saved ME.

I took this online. I really liked Dr. Matthews; he clearly lays out every single thing on the syllabus, and the class follows the same structure every single week. Due to the way to class is set up, 40% of your final grade is basically just handed to you. There is homework every day of the week, but they are short; only the mini project is hard.
