I'm honored to have taken a class with this man. He really cares and goes out of his way to help anyone at all. That department has some true egomaniacs and neurotics, but Mr. McGarvey is the exception. He's a class act and a great teacher.

This man.. he's one of a kind. I've had him for all of my english classes.. except for American lit with Kewish (which i hated her). I now have a true passion for english and a new found love for writing. One prob: You either love em or hate em.

I love this man! Love his classes too. That's it and that's all.

Professor McGarvey's classes are informative and enlightening. He combines many aspects of life lessons in his teaching, which helps a student grasp the literature on a higher level. He also takes the time to mentor aspiring writers. My grade - A++++++++

What can I say? Professor McGarvey is a talented, caring teacher. He goes above and beyond teaching, including mentoring and creating a hybrid course with online and VHS/DVD instruction. He's a great asset to Cumberland County College. :)

I'm not blonde, young, or cute, but I am intelligent and sophisticated. I work hard for my grades. This prof grades what you earn. I know, I had Gibbs too, and he graded me the same way. All A's.

I've had Mr. McGarvey for Eng 101, 102, Drama, & Short Story. He's a great professor and I would highly recommend him. You have to work for your grade its well worth it. And as for favorites, it's all about whether your interested in the course or not.

He holds high expectations for his students and expects a lot. If you need, help he's always available. Slackers need to look for a different professor.

This guy is the one you want if English isn't your strong point. He makes English easy and not complex. He doesn't make you feel like this is a secret society for English majors. Take him if you want to learn.

Mr. McGarvey is the best teacher I have had at CCC. His deep concern for his student's educational success supercedes anything that I have experienced with other CCC professors. It also doesn't hurt that he's super-hot and has the sexiest voice ever.

God that man is hot! ::swoon:: But anyway, he's a brilliant professor. You'll learn in his class, and have lots of fun. I'd recommend him to anyone. :) I had him for drama, but I wish I would have been smart enough to take him for EN 101 and 102. Take every class of his you can get your hands on!!!

McG pushes you to new and higher levels of thinking. Each student thinks he/she is the most important to him, and with that idea each one succeeds. There is no doubt he is handsome, but it's his internal persona, which creates his external one without it he would just be another decent prof.

Prof. McGarvey is no doubt a certifiable genius. His English 101 and 201 classes, the only I had with him, were outstanding. Take his class if you must take an English class!

I had him for every English class at CCC. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be going into Journalism and I probably wouldn't even have a major. He is one of the best and I wish I could have taken Film and Lit with him. You'll learn a lot. Take him. Oh.. and he's hott as hell ;-)

I think that people dis like him because they failed his class, well i love him and i failed his class to. He is a good teacher. He expects you to do good work and if you dont you fail. It was my fault for failing not his. He did a great job and helped me the best that he could without giving me all of the answers. So to all who dislike him and give him a bad score.. shame on you and grow up.. i will be takeing him again and i plan on doing better!

Very interesting and really smart. Really laid-back class. He's also extremely helpful and friendly and willing to help you out with anything. Whenever I've had a problem with classes or anything he's the first person I go to. Definitely one of the top professors at CCC and I definitely recommend taking McGarvey if you have a chance.

Best teacher ever! Forces you to challenge yourself. You're a better person and student for having him as a teacher. He is encouraging and helpful. Tough, but fair. I took every class offered that this professor taught back in the day (well, not all that long ago). He is the reason I became an English teacher. Can't believe anybody could ever say anything unflattering about this guy. He straightened my ass out and taught me more in three months than I ever knew in 30 years. Straight up guy. He picks the dumbest poems in the book to read. One time he had 6 different girls read the same poem in a row- than had a guy read it so everyone could hear the difference! Wack!

I had McGarvey for an online class. He's very helpful and wants to make all of his students to better. He CARES about all the students in his class and will try his best to understand.. all you need to do is try. If you fail in his class, it's because you didn't try doing the work.

We need more professors like McGarvey. He's passionate about what he teaches, pushes his students yet is always approachable. You get back what you give with him but he strives to bring out the best in his students.

Class was online. Do the readings, watch the programs, put some thought into the assignments and you'll get an A. He's easily accessible and gives great feedback. He loves what he's teaching, so he gives you 100%, but expects you put in just as much effort. If you're really trying, he'll notice and appreciate it. Would highly recommend!!!!!

I had the online class. He is helpful; he motivates the class, gives clear directions, and responds quickly to questions. He presents challenges, but is fair. No surprises. Listen, follow his directions, and enjoy a high grade (and the benefits of better writing). I learned a lot. I will definitely try to take EN 102 w/ him.

I took McGarvey's online class for Modern American Literature. I loved his teaching throughout the class and loved that he used mp3s to lecture. Also, the books he had assigned us to read were very interesting (besides maybe 2) . Overall, great teacher.

Hey 11-12-12. Why beat up on the guy just bc you dont like the subject? He's the best prof in the college by far. I've had three of his classes, and I'd take three more. I've never learned so much: history, politics, everything. McG is an incredible prof who really cares about his students. Thats hard to find at CCC. And oh that voice....

He is amazing. I highly recommend taking any of the courses he teaches. He will really change the way you view subjects. By the way, I took Latino Lit and American Lit online and received an A. It had nothing to do with how pretty I am or that I am a woman. He appreciates thoughtful writing. To all of those sour grapes people try working harder!

He is the best teacher I have ever had so far. He tells you what you did right on essays and what you could have done to have made a better one. He teaches how to make a great essay - how to make a great thesis statement (which no other professor has ever shown me). He explains things. I hope to take this professor again in the future. He is a teacher, unlike many other professors I have encountered.

I don't like that it asks if a professor is "easy." This is college, folks. A professor shouldn't be "easy." How will you learn? If you want an "easy" professor, don't take McGarvey. If you want to LEARN, take McGarvey. He is a combination of devilishly good looks, genuine concern, and patience. A rare find. He's awesome.

When I met McGarvey, I could barely form a proper sentence. He really taught me everything I know about English and Literature today, and I'm forever grateful that he took the time out of his schedule to help me. Also, I guess the ladies think he's good looking, but as a straight man, I can't speak for that. I just know that he taught me a lot!

Very good English teacher. I took the online EN101 course, and can honestly say that Professor McGarvey was the best online instructor I had this semester. He responds almost immediately to any question you have, and provides critiques for every writing assignment. Definitely recommend!

Prof Mcgarvey knows his English. He's not a hard grader, but has expectations. He only expects greatness from everyone and is always available for help when we have questions. He cares about all his students and wants them all to pass, and if I could take him again I would!

Excellent professor. Soft spoken and really interesting but intense at the same time so that I don't want to miss anything. I've learned to really analyze literature using many different methods. Professor McGarvey is an awesome teacher! He wants you to think outside the box when writing papers. Put yourself in the characters shoes and really get into it. Grammar is BIG for him. As long as your story isn't bland, and your grammar is perfected you're already at a high B almost A.

Professor McGarvey was probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is so intelligent and is very knowledgeable about many things, not just English. He truly shows he cares about his students and always has an open ear to talk about things not just limited to English Class. His class is truly an experience I will always remember.

Down to earth and takes the time to make sure you understand everything. We used the book a few times. Majority of work was essays, didn't read or do homework as much as other English 101 classes, but did have to read our essays outline sometimes. Takes the time to answer any questions you have or review essay before submitting it.

McG is the only reason I stay at Cumberland. Coolest, smartest, tells great stories and shares amazing life adventures that inspire us all. I learned more in first two weeks of eng 102 than every English class before. He said he was retiring. Cumberland's loss for sure if its true. I hope it's not. McG is the man.

My favorite professor so far in my time in college. Nice guy, very helpful when you need it, and he explains what he wants from the papers very well but still leaves it open enough for students to take it wherever they want. I'm really going to miss him.

We were discussing the modernism of the 20th century and to explain natural selection, he drew his sinus cavities and a large bottle of antibiotics on the board. I won't say it changed my life, but it sure did open my eyes. Such an inspirational professor. I never ever forgot that. He comes up with the best examples to explain complex ideas.

Most memorable professor from college. Very inspirational, great lectures and discussions. I always looked forward to going to class. He was prepared and raring to go, always. Excellent advisor too, helped me to learn how to comprehend what I read and to retain it. I think of him a lot. He helped me see the world in a whole new and better way.

Professor McGarvey's EN102 class was a highlight of my college experience. His engaging lectures and passion for the material made the course both challenging and rewarding. For study prep, I found unstuck AI and the free textbook to be incredibly helpful alongside attending class.

Love Professor McGarvey. I had him for two classes and learned so much. I still remember things from his lectures. He's inspirational and I think of him a lot. I owe my writing skills to him and am thankful for the tremendous no-holds-barred class discussions we had in our three-hour night classes!
