Great professor! Hilarious and makes the class interesting. You can tell he really understands history and always offers extra information that makes the lectures more memorable. As long as you go to class and read the primary documents, you don't even need to read the textbook to do well on tests.
Amazing prof! Super understanding and cares about the subject. Weekly journal assignments that take like 10mins and exams are pretty much all the grades. Easy to do well while still knowing the material.
Easy class. Very cool guy. Did badly on my first exam and he met with me to come up with a game plan to improve my 2nd exam score. Funny jokes, and not much work. Do the weekly assignment and spend a week studying for the exam and you'll pass.
Professor McGlone is a very good professor and I wouldn't hesitate to take his class again given the opportunity. He genuinely cares about the material and that attitude makes it easier to engage in class. Virtually no HW, as long as you spend a couple days studying before the exam you'll get an A.
10/10 love this guy, he is fun in lecture and the class is super easy. You will need to study for exams but there is so much extra credit and easy homework that getting an A is free
He is lovely!! Absolutely take him if you can one of my favorite professors ever. His class is easy going and all you need to do well on exams is to take notes on his lectures. He is a sweet person as well and makes good conversation
Prof. McGlone moves really fast, but that is something that comes with the course. He plays relevant videos and holds discussions of primary documents. The tests are 50 questions long -- the final is 100 questions and cumulative. The class is lecture heavy and he goes off the slides. You definitely need to study all material for the tests.
McGlone is an absolute GEM of a professor. If you can take him, TAKE HIM. He is passionate, funny, interactive, caring, wholesome, and teaches his class SO well. To get an A, you just need to take notes, do HW and test reviews. I've almost always disliked history classes, but I genuinely enjoyed this class and looked forwards to every lecture. :)
Dr. McGlone really made this semester great. I always felt at ease in his class, and it was easy to get involved in discussions. Attendance isn't mandatory and he posts the lectures on canvas for about 5 days after, but I would suggest trying to be there so you can really be involved in the lecture. If you study, you can definitely make an A.
Professor McGlone was great! He posts his powerpoints on canvas along with lecture recordings, and he is super passionate about what he is teaching. Exams are super straight forward if you study the power points and primary documents for a couple days before the exam. He really cares for his students and I HIGHLY reccomend his class!
Took his class in the fall. He doesn't require attendance but good luck trying to pass without it. His assignments are made up of weekly journal assignments which are not hard but are designed to keep you on track to study for the exams. The exams at time can be difficult because some questions are very number specific. Other than that amazing prof
Great lectures, gives great study guides for tests, and gives extra credit. As long as you show up to class and take notes you should get an A. Although the tests are a little hard, he gives great study guides and there is no real homework. Also, he posts videos of his lectures online in case you miss class which is great.
Kevin is a good teacher. There are weekly assignments that are very easy as well as 4 exams. Much of the exams come from lecture/ power points so be sure and show up for class overall a good course.
Prof McGlone is a solid prof. Not super detailed when it comes to answering questions, but he gets the job done. He also responds to emails pretty quickly. His test reviews aka "clues" are super helpful, so tests are very doable. Pretty easy A. I'm taking him again next semester for 106.
I was originally not looking forward to taking history in college, but Dr. McGlone really changed my outlook. His class is very straightforward and it is an incredibly easy class to get an A in. He is funny in lecture, and I always looked forward to going to class. I would highly recommend HIST 105 and/or 106 with him.
I highly recommend taking Dr. McGlone. He provides all the slides on Canvas and uploads videos of the lectures in case you miss class. There is very minimal weekly homework that is easy to get an A on. I will say, some of the exam questions are super specific/ tricky so I would meet with him before the exams to go over study material.
McGlone is a pretty amusing history prof. His tests are pretty straightforward if you use his test reviews, aka one word clues that correspond to each question in order. He's organized and his weekly writing assignments are super easy and short if you pay attention. If you take good notes and do minimal studying you will get at least an easy B.
He is a super funny professor and definitely cares a lot about the success of his students. He does teach about a lot that won't be written on the slides, so you will actually need to pay attention. His tests are relatively easy if you study a good amount, and the final wasn't overwhelmingly stressful. Definitely taking him again this semester!
The best history professor Ive taken at A&M and Ive taken 2 others. He gives easy A weekly assignments, exams are fair, and has extra credit opportunities. His lectures are usually pretty entertaining. Cant rec enough! Taking him for HIST106 too!
This was the perfect class for a struggling BIMS major dealing with the perils of OCHEM. Seriously, Dr. McGlone is one of the most entertaining lecturers I've had, although it does help that I love history. The only annoying thing is the weekly writings, but they only take fifteen minutes or so. Enjoy his class, and try your best to participate!
Mcglone was a great professor. His lectures were interesting and keeps you engaged, but what he says is important so you do have to pay attention to them. He gives out great reviews for tests and easy 100 assignments every week so making a good grade isn't hard.
Dr. McGlone is such a wholesome lad. You can tell he actually cares about his students. Easy 100s every week on weekly journal assignments. Provides slides and gives out a really helpful review for exams. Exams are very specific to extra information/ statistics he mentions in class. Recommend going to class, lectures are interesting! He's great!!!
I honestly can't recommend professor McGlone enough. He's so amazing (and Irish lol). He provides recordings that stay up for a week and uploads notes, but he expands during lectures (exam questions) There are weekly journal assignments over primary documents (min of 75 words, so easy A's!) He also provides a free online textbook.
If you write down the PowerPoints and add little things he says in class you will get a high grades on the test. He has a text book but he says only to read it if you are confused by something. journal entries every week but super easy. 3 normal test and 1 final, Mr McGlone helps with preparation for test. All around amazing teacher so take him.
Professor McGlone is one of my favorite profs at TAMU. His lectures are entertaining and he loves his students. Attendance is not mandatory because he posts all of the notes on Canvas. Test reviews are very broad and tests are extremely specific, if you study everything you can get a good grade. Weekly journal assignments boost grade.
Dr. McGlone is a very good professor if you go to class, pay attention, and participate! If you don't want to go to class: do not take him, you will probably not do well. On the other hand, if you go to class and actively listen, you will get a high grade. He uses super interesting stories and videos to aid in his lectures. Homework is limited.
Super chill dude. Funny and positive and very honest about what content is and isnt on exams. Helps give you answers and loves good discussion in class. Makes everyone feel welcome and is one of the all time best Proffs Ive ever had
My friend recommended that I take this prof for 106 and I don't regret it. Dr. McGlone has very interesting lectures and gives a list of clues for exams. Each one corresponds to a question on the exam. It's a lot of memorization, but that's most history classes. Any hw given is pretty easy.
He was a great professor for HIST-106. He posts his lectures online where you can access them for up to a week after. He has weekly journal assignments that make up 22% of your grade. They're easy and only 100 words. Tests are very specific on dates so do not rely just on PowerPoints. Also had +3 e.c. if you completed an extra assignment.
Mr. McGlone is a great history teacher! I recommend him to everyone at A&M. He knows a lot about history and has enjoyable lectures. There is only one short assignment a week which are interesting. For tests he gives you 50 key words to represent each question, which is nice to help you study.
I would recommend going to lecture because everything you need for the test is on the slides. Weekly journal assignments take maybe 15min and are easy 100s. Tests are in person and not open note but follow the exam clues he gives you and youll be fine. Got 83 on every test and got an A in the class. Highly recommend!
I also took Dr. McGlone for 105, and my positive experience carried through to this semester. The grading style is very fair, with fully multiple choice tests, only having weekly journal assignments based on short readings, and a bonus opportunity worth 3% of the overall grade. In addition, he is funny, engaging, and class discussions are great.
He's great, very willing to work with you especially if you have disabilities accommodations. Easy to understand in a lecture and material available online. DO NOT skip the weekly assignments, they make up for most of your grade.
Taking the context that history has never been my strongest suit, this class was very doable. I had to dedicate a good amount of my time, take good notes (fair amount of tested material is based on what he says in class, not only what is included on the slides). He is passionate, funny, and available outside of class more often than not. Good Prof
This guy is fantastic and reignited my love for history. Plus, you get an excellent Irish accent.
LOVE HIM. Just show up and there's not a lot of hw except weekly journal readings and reflections (75+) words. Study and his tests are kinda hard but he is willing to accommodate you if you're struggling.
Although this class is very lecture heavy, he makes them enjoyable. He has the best dad jokes, or worst depending on how you look at it. Tries to make class as interesting as possible when learning about history.
If you want to get a good grade in HIST105, you should take McGlone. His class is 3 multiple choice tests, which he gives a clue for each question, and easy weekly journal assignments. As long as you put the bare minimum effort for studying for the tests, you should be able to get an A easily. He's also a funny guy, and I'd recommend taking him.
His class is structured to where you have 5 writing assignments, 3 tests, and a final for the course. During lectures, he provides PowerPoint on the screen, but you should take notes on what comes out of his mouth. Writing assignments are easy (summary and evaluation of each source 75 words each). Tests are easy (you don't need the textbook.)
Great prof! So long as you show up to class and pay attention you will do great!
He gives one assignment a week. He gives clues to each exam so you know what to study. You have to show up and take notes during his lectures, if not you will not be successful. His exams are completely based on his lectures in class. If you pay attention and study the clues, you will do great :) 10/10 would take again.
Definitely a lecture heavy class, and you need to take thorough notes to do well on the tests. Workload was super manageable (one easy weekly assignment), and the tests require quite a bit of studying but are multiple choice & doable. Super engaging and funny lectures; I look forward to coming to class and would definitely recommend Dr. McGlone!
Dr. McGlone has has amazing lectures and throws in a few dad jokes every now and then. As long as you do the weekly assignments and test reviews it should be easy to pass.
I have never loved history, but professor McGlone is so willing to work with his students that I absolutely loved this class. be prepared for a few history jokes as well!
If I could get this man a raise I would. He is the most wholesome prof you will ever meet. His lectures are entertaining and very informative. I advise attending lectures because the tests include things said in class so take notes. . He has weekly journal assignments that are super easy to do and 3 exams that he gives hints for each question.
This professor is kind and has entertaining lectures. I recommend to go to all the lectures, as that is the information you will need to know for exams. Exams can be challenging, but if you study you should be fine. There are three exams and a final. You have one assignment a week that usually only takes me half an hour. Provides some extra credit.
I was .6 away from getting a B and offered to redo one of my assignments to get that .6 and he declined. The exams are diffcult and they are worth a lot of your grade. He offers like 30 points of extra credit but the weekly journal assignments can be graded harsh so you need those points.
McGlone has three tests and a final that are fairly difficult, to study write down everything he says and read the textbook chapters. There is extra credit that can add three whole points to your class average. Weekly assignments help bring up your grade slightly, but they're very easy and if you try even a little bit you should get all 100s.
He is funny and class in entertaining. The class is easy to pass but difficult to get an A. The exams are SUPER specific and difficult. I felt like I learned so much but the exams were more about memorizing small facts. Office hours can be helpful. I recommend flashcards and study groups. Good prof overall.
He's great at lecturing, and makes class entertaining. The tests were easy, I did the minimum amount of prep work and still did well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I found the lectures to be extremely helpful. He sent out "exam clues" for each question of the exam so you basically knew what was going to be on them.
Loved this class. If you show up and do the work before exams you will have no problem. The main grade comes from four tests, his powerpoints have everything and his study guides are very representative of the actual test. Attendance isn't mandatory but he is a great lecturer, the most I have ever enjoyed a class.
His lectures were very enjoyable and easy to understand. He posts his powerpoints, but the slides don't contain all the information, so be prepared to take good, detailed notes. Uses a free online textbook. Very little homework and very easy assignments. Study guides reflect the tests accurately, but tests on small details from lectures like dates.
Dr. McGlone was the best prof I had my 1st semester. Though his exams are hard and VERY specific, his lectures were far more interesting than any other history class I've taken. He gives exam clues, cracks occasional dad jokes, and has an extra credit assignment worth 3%. Only homework was a journal assignment once a week. Would totally take again.
This professor genuinely cares and is a nice guy. You have to go lectures and put in the work for real when studying for exams, because they are weirdly specific on things he covers in lectures. I struggled because I am not a purely memorization kind of learner, but his lectures are interesting, just a little fast. Also, dont talk in class!
I have never gotten a B in a history class before. These tests are unreasonably specific and intended to trick you. I payed attention in class, studied a week in advance and still made Bs on every test. You will need to study much harder than the prof leads you to believe - must memorize all the power points.
McGlone is an incredible professor and truly cares about us understanding and succeeding; however, his tests are super hard. You have to remember every thing on the powerpoints plus everything he says in class to get above a B on a test. BE SURE to go to class or you will not succeed. This class is strictly lectures so be ready to take notes.
Dr. McGlone loves to engage with the class. The only issue is your grade is very exam dependent. I am not the best test taker so I struggled especially when the questions are about specific details within the PowerPoint slides, reading documents, and things he mentions in class. Homework is a weekly short essay over an article assigned.
I am not a history person, but I LOVED this class. It's very lecture heavy, so although he doesn't take attendance, you're going to miss a lot by not attending, as most of the exam material is from the lectures. McGlone is very well-spoken and entertaining to listen to, and he really does want all his students to succeed, solid 10/10 professor
Prof. McGlone was one of the most understanding profs I have taken at A&M. His class is extremely lecture heavy and exams aren't easiest. But extremely hard too fail. He gives a super easy extra credit assignment and is very accessible through email. Show up to class and do minimum studying and you will enjoy his class.
Dr. McGlone was an amazing professor! Though history isn't super interesting to me, he kept us all engaged with cheesy jokes and videos. There was a weekly homework assignment, 4 exams, and an extra credit assignment. He truly wants you to succeed, and he's so open and welcoming. Absolutely recommend him!
This class is graded by 3 exams, a final, weekly assignments, and 2 extra credit. The assignments are easy As, but the exams are lecture heavy so make sure you go to class. Just reading the slides isn't enough because he expands a lot. However, he gives out clues for each question on the exams which helps a lot. Overall he was a very good professor!
This class was relatively easy. There's 3 exams, a final, 2 extra credits, and a written assignment every couple of weeks. He posts his slides, but he expands on them quite a bit so go to class! He gives clues for each question on the exams which is very helpful. Overall he is a great professor and very funny!
Professor McGlone had engaging and interesting lectures, but the exams are very specific off of tiny details he mentioned once in class. He is very willing to talk to you outside of class and gave us a 3% extra credit opportunity. It took a lot of work to perform well on the exams so I would take a different professor if at all possible.
This class is NOT an easy A! He truly cares about history, and his lectures aren't super boring. However, majority of the class is test, and they are HARD! I am a business major and this was my lowest grade this semester. It took many hours of studying and was frustrating. He does offer 3% extra credit but avoid getting McGlone if possible!!
Bro has the most specific exams I have ever seen. Take another prof or do it at community college if possible. I q-dropped it because I had a C. If you're not good at HIST like me, DO NOT TAKE MCGLONE. Save yourself. For real.
Professor McGlone is my favorite, super sweet guy and very funny. His class is lecture heavy so while attendance isn't mandatory its important to go cause his exams include verbal information. I made a B cause I underestimated the difficulty of his exams. If you attend the TA's review sessions and fill out his exam clues you'll be fine.
Professor McGlone was really fun to listen to! He tells a lot of jokes and keeps us engaged in his lectures. A lot of material on the exams comes from what he says in class, so it is important to attend. We had weekly journal assignments that weren't hard, but I struggled with the tests. Overall, he was a good professor!
Dr. McGlone is a good teacher, but he will make you work to earn an A and wants you to understand the content well. This is not a blowoff class and you need to actually study for the exams to do well.
McGlone very obviously cares about what he's teaching. GO TO LECTURES. Test is 75% just what he says in class (not on the slides). Easy to do well if you go to class. He posts 'exam clues' for each test, which tells you what each of the 50 questions are on. Definitely recommend, 3 tests and a non-cumulative final
Dr. Mcglone is a great professor and his lectures are interesting. There are 4 exams which constitute 68% of the course grade. Going to class and taking good notes over the "lecture" is required if you want to do well on the exams. There are weekly assignments that take less than 20 minutes. Overall, it's easy to get an A if you put in the work.
Short weekly assignments & 4 Exams not cumulative he provides you with exam clues that help out so much. Overall pretty good professor, you have to work for the grade that you want and put in the time. He valued people engaging in the lecture and not being distracted by cellphones or talking, he often addressed this as well.
Dr. McGlone is a caring professor that is really passionate about what he teaches. However, this class was extremely difficult for a 100 level course. He is very detailed on the exams, so make sure you attend class and take good notes. He also talks fast, so be prepared. The assignments are easy to complete.
Dr. Mcglone was great. He expands a bit more during his lectures than I'm comfortable with & talks fast so it was overwhelming at times but his exam study guides are a student's dream, they take a lot of stress out of preparing for the exams, which are not overly difficult, but can be specific. Overall, would take his class again 100%!
10/10, I took him for 105 and 106 and I loved him in both. If you have to take history, do it with McGlone. He is hilarious and knows what he's talking about, and his lectures cover more than his slides do so it's a good idea to go to class. He releases "exam clues" for every exam and you know exactly what's going to be on the exam itself.
Loved his lectures and he's hilarious. Only time I spent on this class was the weekly assignments (only 100 words!) and studying for exams. He gives exam clues so you know what to study for. Attend class and take detailed notes since some questions ask specifics, so make sure you definitely study! Gave lots of extra credit though. Recommend him!
Good person overall. The lectures were interesting and mandatory since not all info is not on PowerPoint. Exams can be tricky so study study study. He gives one hint per question a week before the exam. Have weekly journal assignments once a week. One extra credit assignment is only worth 30pt. Does not curve no matter the extent.
I took Mcglone over the summer and he was great. Go to lecture and take good notes. He does give 3% extra credit, so u only need a 86.5 % for an A. Exams mainly come off of the clue sheet. Master the clue sheet, you're bound at least an 80. He's super caring and wants his students to succeed. I liked history way more after taking his class.
TESTS make up your WHOLE grade in this class. IF YOU ARE NOT A GOOD TEST TAKER, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. His tests are HARD. The smallest, tiniest details are expected to be known. I showed up to every single lecture, not once missed class or an assignment and still got a B. However, little to no homework is given so its easy in that sense.
Look I do not know about everyone else talking bad about Prof. Mcglone, but what I know is that he is one of THE BEST professors in all of Texas A&M! Although I did slack a little in his 105 class and didn't show up to class often, I still passed with a B+, that should tell you a lot about the difficulty of the class. Wish I could take it again
make sure you go to class. What he says in class is what will be on exams. His reviews are very helpful, and he is funny, just make sure you don't talk during lecture or be on your phone.
Good professor overall, easy to get good grades if you try, makes terrible dad jokes.
I have been loving this course! It's a perfect mix of lecture, videos and group review of primary documents (usually all 3 in one class day). His tests are pretty difficult because a lot of the questions are specific, but overall very doable if you study the clue sheet and pay attention in class. The dad jokes are a plus!
Super fun professor, he's Irish and tells funny stories. The class is easy and he doesn't make it complicated, his review sessions are super helpful for the tests.
He is a phenomenal lecturer and teaches incredibly well. He is quite funny and one of the most fun and unique professors. His lectures are far from stale and always manage pique my interest. I always look forward to his lectures. He is test-heavy with minimal homework. His tests aren't freebies, but they also aren't difficult if you study.
Super easy assignments that help bring up your grade. Only really have to do good on tests. He offers an extra credit group project that gives 3% in overall grade. I hate history but genuinely enjoy listening to his lectures. He is funny and grades easily on the assignments.
Really enjoyed his lectures. Definitely prepare to study for his tests, but they aren't impossible + he gives extra credit.
Professor McGlone is so sweet!! He cares about what he's teaching and wants his students to succeed. I did think his exams were more difficult than they needed to be for a 103 class, and you definitely have to study a lot to make an A. There are class discussions sometimes and he plays videos a lot which is a good change from pure lecturing!!
He's a really cool guy and has an Irish accent that makes you want to listen to him. You definitely have to take good notes, pay attention, and study if you want to do good in this class. There were a couple of extra credit assignments.
Bro is mad chill and great at lecturing. Pay attention in class and take notes and you get an A. Easy homework assignments that get you free points. Needed an 82% on exams to get an A.
Professor McGlone is great. Irish accent that's fun to listen to, pops a joke every now and then, and tries to engage the class. HIST 105 with him involves 4 tests (none of them are cumulative) and easy homework assignments (takes maybe 20 minutes a week). He goes beyond what's on the slides, so show up to lectures if you want to make A's on tests.
All the homework and extra credit was easy. Lectures were as entertaining as 8 am history lectures can be. He has an accent, but you can understand everything he says. You should attend lectures for the specific details that will be tested. The Exam clues are very useful. You can get an A in class with spending an hour a week of studying.
He is amazing! You do need to go to lecture though, he gives a lot of important test material in class. The tests are not hard if you study properly, I did good on all of them by studying a little bit each day starting one week before the test. Very good extra credit!!
Dr. McGlone's exams were really really detailed. He is the type to not have a lot of information in the slides but he will talk about it during lectures which is why you need to show up. He gives out exam clues for each test but I would recommend studying everything. His final is not cumulative and he offers one assignment for extra credit.
He is an awesome professor! His lectures are amazing to attend; however, the exams are a little bit harder. He does give you clues for the exams which I highly recommend doing before exam. Take thorough notes!
The only hw u have to keep up w/ is a weekly assignment thats basically a completion grade. Exams are the main concern. He doesnt test concepts; just rote memorization of facts and details. Sometimes he tests based off things he said in class, not whats on the slides, so go to class. I recc studying by making ur own test q's based off exam clues
I took Dr. McGlone for 103, 105, and 106 and he has been one of my favorite professors in college! I truly enjoyed attending his lectures and I felt like I actually learned from his classes. I enjoyed his teaching style, it felt like he was telling a story with some occasional dad jokes! Exam clues really helped when studying as well.
Dr.McGlone originally wasn't supposed to teach this course but stepped in about 1/4th of the way into the semester. He truly stepped up and set us up for success. I love Dr.McGlone if you can ever take a class with him I highly recommend.
Really good guy that cares about what he teaches.
Had Dr. McGlone for both HIST 103 and as a permanent sub for 280. In 103, lectures had slides shared to the whole class with primary documents which were helpful in retaining information for exams which reflected exactly what was taught. In 280, he helped me become a better writer as a historian with VERY helpful feedback and had exciting lectures.
He was a funny professor, but tests are way too detailed, in my opinion, for just an introductory history class. There is no reason to make test that hard. On the plus side, there was only one easy homework assignment a week and offered 3 percent extra credit on your final grade, but still, the tests weighed heavily on your grade.
McGlone was such a good professor. He is very passionate about history and you can really tell he cares about students and if you pass or not. He was weekly assignments and an extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester that really helps. He also gives hints to exams so you are sure to pass.
I absolutely love this professor and took him again the next semester because he was so good. His lectures are super interesting but you NEED to listen to what he says because there is a lot of important info he SAYS that aren't on the slides. He's very sweet and cracks jokes often and as long as you keep up with lectures and study you will do good
He's a great professor, but tests are VERY detailed. class is mandatory if you want to do good on the exams. He post his powerpoints, but in class he says a lot of information that is not on the slides, but on the exam. dont really have to know concepts, just memorize facts.
Excellent teacher, loved his lectures. His biggest downfall is the extent in which the test questions are extremely particular. I'm going to be losing my 4.0 because of this class. No matter how much I studied for his exams there were always a bunch of small detail questions which I wouldn't get Amazing teacher, love him. Annoying tests. easy pass
Despite his class being at 8 AM, his lectures were so good that I stayed awake. His tests are very hard, and tests little details mentioned in lecture, so make sure to write every word he says. If you do all the extra credits, technically you only need an 86.5 for an A. HW are weekly journals and don't take long. Interesting class and great prof!
4 noncumulative exams + gives clues! 1 hw assignment/week. Extra credit that gives 3% boost on final grade. Never got above a B on the exams and I ended with an A (you need 82 average on exams to get A). Auto rounds 89.5 to A in syllabus! Engaging lectures - pay attention, stuff he says could be on exams that arent on slides. Tells funny dad jokes!
Professor McGlone is an excellent professor whom I would highly recommend. My advice is to schedule a meeting with him during his office hours and discuss his recommended study strategies for exams. He provides exceptional guidance and delivers well-structured lectures.
Prof. McGlone was a great lecturer. He tries to makes things interesting and is passionate about teaching. However, his tests are extremely hard. Have to go to class cause the stuff he SAYS will be on the test. MEMORIZE notes to do well! I made one 100 which got me an A, because the rest of the tests I averaged low B's despite studying for days.
Great guy and great lectures! He is passionate about the subjects he teaches and makes most lectures interesting to listen to. There was only one journal entry due a week making this class heavily dependent on test grades. The tests are difficult and very specific but he gives clues before each test to help pinpoint specific events and people.
Prof. McGlone is one of the best profs I've had at TAMU. His exams are almost entirely lecture based, so it's important to go to class. Sometimes he will also have in-class extra credit! Covers content very quickly, but easy to understand. Encourages office hours attendance
he is a great professor, very engaging. go to class and pay attention. he sometimes has random in-class extra credit assignments. can get an a if you do all extra credit and get at least 80s on all exams. multiple choice.
This man is one of the best people I have had in my college experience as a senior. I went through a very difficult time during his class, and he was the most understanding person I have ever met. I took him flex-online so it was a lot of assignments, but If you start early and communicate there should be no issues.
Professor McGlone is great but I Qdropped because I'm a terrible test taker. There's 2 parts to his exams: multiple choice 60% of OVERALL grade & written portion 15%. Weekly reflections were EASY but not really worth anything. U HAVE to pay attention to his lectures bc questions are VERY specific & u can't go back to the question once u answer it!
Posts lecture slides, but STILL go to lecture. Sometimes the stuff he says are on the exams. Very engaging; loud and clear. He knows what he is talking about. Exams are general questions (who, what, when, where, why, & how) and true or false MCQ. Has a writing prompt with every exam. There is extra credit. Very funny guy and great professor.
No work other than a 200 word reflection every other week, so pretty test heavy. But, his lectures are super engaging and it's important to go to class because there is a lot of what he says on the exams. Exams aren't bad, just pretty specific at times. He's an awesome professor and pretty funny (and has a cool irish accent)
Awesome professor. Very light homework, 4 exams. No term paper. Notes coherent and easy to follow. Exams not particularly difficult, and he lets you take an index card of notes in with you.
very lecture heavy. his exams aren't too difficult but they're pretty detailed. since he doesn't have many assignments (besides a short reflection every other week), do good on exams. he lets you have a index card during them too. there is also a writing component but as long as you answer the prompt fully, it is an easy 100.
McGlone is awesome! He wants to make lectures interesting because he knows history can get boring. He truly cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Take him if you need a history credit! Attendance not mandatory and all slides posted online. Tests are easy and there is extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Amazing professor! He makes his lectures really interesting and makes lots of jokes. The tests are completely lecture based and questions can be very specific, but he allows the front and back of a notecard for each exam. He's super knowledgeable and really cares about teaching, loved his class!
Amazing professor! He made lectures interesting and makes lots of jokes. He really cares about teaching and is very knowledgeable! Tests are completely lecture based and have many specific questions, but he allows the front and back of a notecard for each test. Loved his class!
Super easy class. No tests, just a quiz every week, along with some annotations. The quizzes are lecture-based and have a time limit of 6 minutes for a 10-question quiz, which is the hardest part. This class took up barely any time. He gives you a lot of time to complete his work and drops the lowest quiz grade and 2 lowest annotating grades.
HIST 225 with Professor McGlone was the highlight of my semester. He is extremely knowledgeable, yet he made each lecture enthusiastic and funny with his witty quips and jokes, all with his iconic Irish accent. Allowed 3 extra grade points of extra credit from random in-class activities, so show up to every class, each of which is a blast!
Professor McGlone brings passion to his lectures, making history engaging. The tests are challenging but manageable with diligent studying. unstuckstudy was a helpful tool for exam prep alongside the textbook.
Very low time commitment class! Only one quiz and one Perusall assignment a week. It's really easy to get an A, just make sure you have an idea of what is going on before taking the quizzes as they are 10 questions with only 6 minutes.
Professor McGlone was hilarious and kept his lectures very engaging. His tests were very hard and very specific though. However, as long as you write down everything he says and memorize your notes, you should be okay! You just have to attend his lectures and study, but the studying was nothing too insane (a quizlet was usually enough).
Professor McGlone is awesome! He does a great job at explaining history in a way that makes sense (and he has fun while he does it). Attendance isn't required, but there are extra credit opprotunities and test questions are based on class lectures, so go anyway! Study hard for the tests, they can be difficult. Still, highly recommend!
class was VERY lecture heavy. for notes, i just wrote down EVERYTHING he said out loud in lecture because tests would ask about some random thing he said once, so u cant fully rely on slideshow. he allows a pretty big flashcard as test cheat sheet. every 2 weeks u write a 200-500 word reflection of what u learned in class and connect it to urself.
McGlone is a cool guy. Attendance isn't mandatory, slides are posted but I would go because his lectures are interesting and important. He gives out 3 surprise extra credit opportunities. Barely any homework very test heavy and tests are pretty hard. You don't get much time and can't go back to previous questions. But overall, would take him again!
McGlone's a great lecturer for a topic that can be boring. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives test clues during lecture and also extra credit. Few assignments so your grade is mainly based on the exams but they're fairly straight forward.
His exams are SO hard. He is a great professor and lectures are interesting. If you aren't a good test taker you will not do well in this class. Lots of questions in a short time and you can't go back once answered. Then short DBQ but follow the rubric and you're fine.
Pretty chill class, just be prepared for the MCQ, 1st test caught me off guard but I was able to recover.
Great professor. Exams do cover some information mentioned in the class that isn't on the slides.
Amazing professor! He's passionate, funny, and values class engagement. You have to attend lectures because he says important things that aren't on the slides. Exams are detailed, so take good notes. Show up, participate, and you'll do well. He also has strict policy on cell phones, you will be kicked out. Overall, one of the best profs I've had!
what an absolutely amazing professor, truly cares about the topics and the students. but why make the exams so hard. its a history class that is taken for credit. there is no valid reason to not let students go back and review their answers for the multiple choice. would've enjoyed the class way more without this issue
McGlone is an excellent lecturer and genuinely seems to love history. I think this is a great class to take if history is something you're interested in, but not if you are just taking it for the credit. For a 100-level course, the difficulty is a bit unexpected. The exams account for like 80% of your grade and tend to be very specific.
He is a good professor, his lectures are engaging. He has like pop extra credits towards the middle to the end of the semester, don't miss those. He posts slides online. Reflection essays are easily graded as well as the written essay in exams. He's funny, he tries to make jokes here and there. Honestly an easy class, take him if you can.
McGlone is a fabulous professor with very interesting lectures. The exam questions are from the lecture (not powerpoints) and are super detailed. Even hen I studied relentlessly I could not get above a C. ALL other grades are easy 100s if you just follow the rubric. He also gives 3 extra credit points over the semester, so always go to class.
Dr. McGlone is an engaging professor with Irish wit and the accent to match. His lectures cover the material on exams, but you can get by with the slides. You're allowed an index card so if you can fit all your notes then the class is an easy A. 4 non cumulative exams, 3 in person extra credit points, and short reflections every other week. Solid!
History is a very difficult subject for me to stay concentrated in, but he does make it interesting! Pay attention to what he says during lecture, because exams are mostly based off of what he says. Also his exams are 25 minutes for 40 questions online (in class) and then writing a blue book, but it's not a hard class!!
Super chill class. Lectures were interesting and funny, and attendance was not mandatory, however there are 3 extra credit opportunities on random days in class. There are 4 exams which are pretty hard, and usually include little details added onto the notes or from primary documents but as long as you study they're manageable.
Class was very easy, it was an accelerated summer course so there was a lot of lecture and then a quiz but not bad, they're open note but timed so def read notes before. 15 quizzes and 7 assignments which just analyze a text, again not hard but try and make good observations, drops 1 of each. Lectures were funny and entertaining. would recommend.
Professor McGlone was amazing and super hilarious. I'm very glad to have taken him. The tests aren't necessarily easy but even with difficulty on those, I still was able to achieve an A.
If you want a good GPA, don't take this class. HIST 105 is required, but skip this section and take it at a community college during summer session. The exams are way TOO DETAILED and nitpicky. I can't understand why they give such difficult exams for a basic course like this. Your time is valuable. Go focus on your major courses.
He's tough. Very test heavy, all the other assignments you do don't even compare to one test grade. You can study the slides constantly and still will not pass. You get a note card but it hardly helps. Just a real GPA dropper for no reason. One of the lowest grades I have received in college. Think about it before you take it
Dr. McGlone is a very lecture heavy professor. Most of the questions on the exam are from lecture, so make sure you're taking notes and paying attention. He has a lot of extra credit assignments, but they're in class and he doesn't tell you when they are. Attendance is not mandatory.
Dr. McGlone is amazing! Tests are detailed so take notes on what he says in lecture not off his slides. Attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade. Tests are more difficult due to the easy papers, but he offered 3 extra credit points to offset this. He cares about his students and wants to help but you have to ask and do the work.
Going to class is essential, take good notes. The tests are doable just study your notes and the slides. He's really nice, makes jokes, and doesn't like people being on their phones. Very enjoyable class, I'm sure I would've liked it more if it wasn't an 8am. 8/10, I hope I get one of his classes again.
Dr. McGlone was a great professor! He is very clear on his grading and he is also very funny. You will do well in his class if you pay attention during his lectures. Overall, I would recommend him and I would take his class again.
Dr. McGlone is a good lecturer, but I want to emphasize the difficulty of his exams. I dedicated a massive amount of time studying for the final in this course, but could not maintain an A. The multiple choice sections are oddly specific and will ask obscure questions unrelated to the slides that were briefly mentioned in a lecture once.
Dr. McGlone was funny, and his lectures were interesting. Besides exams, there isn't much that is graded so do the extra credit. His exams are hard but if you study the slides and your notes it'll be ok. He allows a notecard on tests and tests are multiple-choice plus one essay. Essay is easy if you follow the rubric.
I never attended class and still passed with a high B. The curriculum was very lecture-heavy. Tests can be tedious, but he always offers extra credit on the Monday after an exam. The only homework was a reflection every other week on what we thought was interesting. Very funny, very easy going. Always available to help or have questions.
