Kind of hard, but a great professor...lots of fun.
He is a GREAT teacher!!!
Had to do 2 hour group presentation. Midterm was on unassigned chapters - curve was so low that everyone passed. Funny professor.
Although more difficult, he makes up for it with his enthusiasm for sometimes bland subject matter. Dr. Meehan is always available outside of class. He also made an excellent Grad Check Advisor.
Great teacher. Not as hard as everybody says. If you take him, you will definitely learn something. Funny guy!
Lots of reading but a fun class.
I loved this class. Learned alot and he is very helpful not only with class work but also outside of class (ie: finding the right job)
I had him for Corrections Through the Eyes of Hollywood. Great class and excellent teacher. Expect 2-3 papers and two easy tests. Class involves watching movies and HBO series(Oz and the Corner). Awesome Class!!!!!
As a visiting professor (UCI, Sumer 2004), Dr. Meehan doesn't match the other reviews left here. Classes drag on, he lectures directly from the book with no originality, gives trivial exams and goes on the defensive with no provocation.
Good-hearted guy with a lot of interesting ideas. Love the Hawaiian shirts.....
I liked the lectures (welll except when they dragged on about random things). However his tests were kind of vague in where to focus for exams and had an extensive amount of material to study from. Despite his tests and random quizess, you do learn a lot of information about corrections.
Excellent teacher. Both classes were interesting. Expect a paper 6-8 pages long, easy tests as long as you read. Attendance very important gives pop quizes that can help or hurt your grade. I would take him again and I recomend him. Very helpful in student advising
Good teacher willing to help, attendance a must, but if you have a pulse and pay attention, easy class. The paper is not that bad, he is big on following his format, do it the way he wants it and you'll get a good grade. Both classes are identical.
sucks gives the worst exams, does not have a specific study guide, most shows movies and less time teaching, always has pop quiz's at random times, never curves his test which does not make since because there are impossible to pass! Avoid him at all cost save your self the suffering!
You must read the book in order to get a good grade. He has a lot of passion and understanding for the subject matter. If your looking to really learn something, take him. Once you get to know him he is a great guy!
did not like this teacher. His test were not what was focused on in class or in the book. His lectures and more confusing than helpful. He is very lazy, says he will do things and doesn't(like give quizzes to improve a grade). And to top it all of he is a huge jerk to everyone and his paper was very tough, was very anal on the format, avoid if u can
Really awesome guy. He has a personality that a lot of people wouldnt like, but he is really funny. He expects a lot out of students and reading his required text is a must. I liked him, he knows his stuff
he is a little weird and funny in a way. tests r exrtremely hard, he takes out the smallest details, even numbers out of the book, which is full of it. U need to know all the books like the back of your hand. mostly nobody gets good grades.
Interesting, very intelligent prof... but class is not a cakewalk. You must know the book back and forth (numbers, etc) to do well on tests/quizzes, and there is also an 8-10 pg research paper. Very picky about spelling/grammar/citation. There are probably easier teachers, but you'll actually LEARN in this class and take some info away with you.
This was a very interesting class. It wasn't hard at all, just keep up. Just read the material and pay attention to the lectures. Definitely do not fall asleep in his class, you will be embarrassed. You can get by with out coming to class and reading the material but attendance is required and can be crucial.
Did some say Hawaiian shirts? Definately a laid-back professor. Reading assignments are a must as lecture is question-run. Field trips are awesome and he keeps the class interesting for such a limited topic. Learned much and enjoyed attending classes.
The class was interesting for such a mediocre subject. Meehan is a really funny guy if you like dry humor and he makes the class fun by showing part of a television series every now and then. He definitely plays favorites and enjoys giving certain people a hard time.
Great teacher! Very helpful and understanding. Great with guidance counseling.
I was extremely disappointed. The instructor is so lame that I lost complete interest in the class. I had heard that he wasn't a good professor from other people, but us night students don't have many options even though we pay the same(diff. story).
This professor sucks!!! Although i got an A, it was the worst experience of my life.
Dr. Meehan is awesome. He is very clear on whats on the tests & def. makes sure that he gets his point across to students. Very helpful & approachable. He has a personality that a lot of students may perceive as mean, but he is a great professor, one of the best I've had. Read the text books. His tests are right out of the book.
Professor Meehan is a GREAT teacher! You will definitely learn. Attendance is mandatory if you want to do well. Read all of the material and make sure to study your notes and the reading each day before class so that you are prepared for possible popquizzes. This will also make it easier to study for the exams. One 8-10 pg. paper;DO NOT FALL ASLEEP
this professor was very knowlegable of the material and very helpful with the students. he answers all questions and gives life examples that helps students remember. he was a sweetheart and funny! read the book and his lectures notes and attend class-just like all courses
Prof. Meehan is one of the best prof that I have had at CSUF!!!! He knows everything about CJ and is very very helpful!!!! He makes the class very fun and intresting. I love the subjct of CJ now because of him!!! Take him.
This professor sucks, avoid him!!! Worst professor at CSUF
Great Person, but as a teacher not organized or able to get what he feels important across to the students. Lectures drift off subject, and many things appear on tests that seem irrelevent to the overall scheme of the C.J. system. I practically failed his class, on average im an A student...If you have a learning disability DON'T take his class
YAY! i love professor meehan. u really learn a lot in his classes, so don't slack off but pay attention. he really knows what he's teaching and makes it enjoyable. great personality. great person. i hate powerpoint- thank God he doesn't use it. take his classes!!
This is the type of professor other professors criticize. Instead of making sure we learn the broad overall concepts he has us chasing down obscure footnotes within the textbook. He is totally reliant on the textbook, rather than teach in a way that would supplement it. Nice guy, but I would NOT recommend him.
Demanding but fair. Always willing to help out student's at anytime-even gives out his cell phone #. Great student advisor too. Not bad looking for an old hippie.
professor of the year! xoxo
He is demanding but is very fair. If he see that you really try and are doing all the work he will work with you to help you pass the class. He is funny too.
This professor is very difficult, but if you go to class and study you will have no problem passing class. I feel like this is the only CJ class that I learned anything in. He holds the student accountable for what they learn.
Kevin Meehan is a great instructor. He has higher expectations from his students than other instructors, however, nothing that is unreasonable. I liked his teaching style. He cares about his students. Don't miss class, do your assignments, read your textbook, and you'll do fine. He has a great sense of humor. You'll like him!
Don't take Professor Meehan if you want an easy class. He is a very difficult professor but you learn so much. This is my second time taking him and if i wasn't graduating i would take him again. You must do the readings and show up to class. He is always willing to help anyone who needs it. Everyone is afraid of his paper, but it isn't that bad.
Prof Meehan is a fabulous teacher!! Be sure to go to class, read the textbook and actually pay attention. He makes class interesting.. and has a great sense of humor!! He shows interest in his students as well, if you need help, just ask!
Do not take this class if you have a life. Class is boring and he takes attandance everyday so you have to go :( MEEHAN is the worst professor I have had @ CSUF. Made me not want to be a CJ Major anymore, even though I passed his class. He gives no study guides and tells you just to read
Just do the reading and attend class everyday and you'll be fine. Oh, and speak up in class, he likes that. He'll remember you that way when it comes to grading :) The only thing I didn't like about this class was that he makes you remember statistics and numbers which doesn't make sense since the statistics don't stay the same forever.
Just because you have to read the book and actually study doesn't mean he's the worst teacher. He does take attendance and you do have to read for the pop quizzes, but he is a pretty cool teacher. He tells you all kinds of stories that "didn't" happen to him :) Uses the theory of weighing costs vs. rewards for extra credit on tests.
Demands college students to act and perform like college students. Easy going with weird sense of humour but very devoted to students and teaching. Focuses more upon writing properly than any other professor I've had. If you follow directions and submit a draft he'll really help you succeed.Great student advisor for jobs and grad school.
Very difficult professor. His exams are extremely detailed and difficult (most students fail but he gives extra points). You must attend every class (lots of quizzes) and read and know every page in the book. He is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and keeps the class interesting with some good humor and stories. You must know how to write a
Focuses on writing ability which is surprising for a corrections class. Also, focuses on numbers which change only days after you 're tested on them. Offers extra credit but it only helps those who already have an A. Is helpful on Paper but very tough on everything else. Most people do poorly but end up with a better grade because of curve.
He rules. I loved his class and he makes it fun. The material is very interesting, but you HAVE TO study! It's not super easy...but he does everything he can to help you (handouts/reviews/etc.) He's funny, raelly nice and sincerely cares about the students. PS- he looks like Hunter S. Thompson sometimes with his buzzcut and acapulco shirts ;)
I hate this man.... He's rude, expects ridiculous things... he is just the worst teacher i've ever had. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He is on of the worst teachers i have ever had at Fullerton. He likes to pick on people and isnt very accurate. He shouldnt be a cj teacher, he should be a sociology teacher! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
HARD class. Must read and keep up with the material b/c quizzes are random. No lectures, just discussions. You are tested on what is in the book. A lot of info so you must study hard. Take his paper seriously and FOLLOW his directions exactly. Check it with him beforehand if possible. I usually get A's and I couldn't get better than a B here.
Professor Meehan is amazing! I do have to admit his class was challenging but overall I think its what every college class should be. The paper wasn't that bad to do, you just have to FOLLOR DIRECTIONS and you'll be fine. Class is mandatory, reading is a must, his sense of humor is pretty awesome although many don't like. I recommend him :)
Ok CJ-majors are you ready or prepare to take his Crime and Delinquency class? Brace yourself; as a college student, I have never in my whole entire college life had to read the whole text book, but for his class is a definite, I mean page for page, words for words because quizzes and exams are m/c are randomly picked and is not EASY!!!
Meehan is very full of himself and is never wrong. He loves to let you know that he is tenured so he doesn't care what you think. He is the worst teacher I have had so far at CSUF and I would not take his class if Iwere you. I learned the hard way......DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES!!! You have been warned...........
Awesome teacher! He is funny and cool but can be strict and intimidating to some. This professor knows his stuff! One of the smartest professors I have ever come across. Definitely knows his stuff! He DOES require reading from textbook as well as other reading such as Newspaper articles.I recommend Professor Meehan to all Criminal Justice students!
Professor Meehan is the worst teacher i have everhad at CSUF! He is a jerk! He is always right even though he thinks he is. His questions on the quizes are out of no where. He grades really hard on the paper. He is a very unfair teacher! DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ANY CLASS!
A great teacher that knows his stuff, but his quizzes and exams are pretty hard. Lots of statistics questions on his quizzes and exams. Sarcasm is always present in his class. Kicks people out if they didn't do the assigned reading. Though you do learn stuff in this class when he's in a good mood. The research paper isn't that bad.
Very Hard Professor. He knows a lot but his exams and papers very Hard.Makes you read the book.Avoid him if you can. Take someone else.
People seem to hate Dr. Meehan...but honestly he is an awesome prof.! His sense of humor is great and he constantly keeps the class entertained. He is a little harder than the average prof., but most of the professors don't really challenge students so it's somewhat of a refreshment. Very intelligent person by the way! P.S. he wants chilli peppers!
I took this professor before so I knew what to expect but if you haven?t be prepared to work really hard. Class is entertaining and you will get a good grade if you read the book. Take this class if you want to be challenged and want to learn.
People who complain about Meehan only have themselves to blame, he gives out ample amount of extra credit for his class. Sure you have to study to get an A, but if you're lazy and you don't study then you deserve the grade you get. I didn't even buy one of the books and still managed to get an A-, you just have to put in the time to get the grade
Piece a cake, super easy class.Take him if you want easy A
Excellent teacher and very knowledgeable. I recommend taking any of his classes. Very witty with a good sense of humor. Test questions come directly from the reading and he will require a research paper. You will get excellent score on paper if you FOLLOW his study guide. Overall the class is fairly easy as long as you keep up on the reading.
A professor who expects you to read and be prepared, show up for class and follow directions. Imagine that! You can slide through college seeking easy professors, or you can work hard and get the most out of every class. Mr. Meehan's classes are challenging, but so is life.
Gifted Professor, Take Corrections class with him, he is the best, forget other professors.
Tough Teacher, you have to study hard for his class, if you are taking 2 other classes beside his class don not take it then. His corrections class requires lots of work, tough grader but very knowledgeable person.explains everything clearly but he is difficult.
Great Professor, knows what he is talking about. Yes you have to read the book, but hey thats what college is all about...learning! Very helpfull, you just have to ask.
Guy is ten years plus back on his information. Never worked in field. Has no idea what current trends and issues are. CSUF needs to get a real teacher who has been there.
The most helpful professor in the CJ dept He is the 1st to tell you not to take his class I took him for Corrections through Hollywood topic class & we watched movies everyday but there was a paper due every week.Super stickler for citations. Also gives good criticism on how to improve Great guy!! Tough Teacher!! btw Servite owns Margarita!! haha
i love this professor! his class was pretty easy. three tests and random pop quizzes but you kind of know when they are coming. every question for the quiz and test are STRAIGHT from the book and hand outs. So yes you have to read but its not too bad.No study guide but he kind of tells u what to study for if you ask. lots of ex cred. great teacher
Hes such a tough teacher, I do not recommend him to anyone. u have to study hard for his class, lots of pop quizzes, if you are taking 2 or more classes beside his class don't take him then. His corrections class requires lots of attention & hes a tough grader & doesn't know what hes talking about & his TA's don't know anything.
I took Meehan's Corrections class and it was very intresting. He's a great professor and if you need help is always available. I didn't do so well on my term paper and he let me resubmit it (most professors would never allow that). You have to read & attend lecture but for the most part it's a pretty easy course if you put in effort. Great Professor
He's a great professor. He's the type of professor you want to get with how much we pay for tuition. He is passionate about the subject matter and is willing to do whatever he can to help you succeed in his class. Quizzes are random but he hints to when we get them. Material he talks about in class is a hint to what's on tests! Read&pay attention!
all you need to do is follow the directions VERBATIM from his style guide for the paper and OUTLINE the chapters before he lectures on it.... do that and you get an A like i did. I took this along with three other classes so whether or not u can multitask thats your own problem, college is meant for you to think so take classes that will do that!
Dr Meehan's class was easy, provided you put just a little effort into it. There are no tricks and he asks very few arbitrary questions. If you read and pay attention in class, you will pass with no problem. He keeps plenty of office hours and he always responds to email, should his students have questions or need clarification.
Prof. Meehan is a great teacher. I learned alot from him and he uses the book alot. Everything is straight foward and he tells you directly everything that he is looking for and if you follow directions and read the book and study you will do good like I did. He is always available office hours or by email. he is really cool and funny.
How to get an A in Professor Meehan's class (Warning: some work is involved): 1: Buy the book 2: Read the book 3: Show up to class 4: Pay attention and take notes in class 5: Write the paper according to the style guide 6: Use the quizzes as your study guide for exams 7: Don't call him "Meehan"
Professor Meehan's class should be relatively easy since he informs his students about what material will be asked on tests. He quizzes regularly so students are usually caught up with the readings. Overall, I would recommend this professor because he makes the material more interesting. Sorry- No chili peppers.
easy day! All you have to do is read the textbook. All his test questions come straight from the book. 3 exams 1 paper and he pretty much tells you when the quizzes are. I had four other classes along with this class and I got an A.
Worst professor ever. Guy has no actual experience in the field. He is the reason why United States schools are so bad. Once a professor gets tenured in they are set for life and never have to try again. I recommend another professor if you need to take Corrections. At least the TA were good, I liked the lesson the TA gave more than the professor.
The class does require a lot of work & commitment to reading/studying the material. Showing up to class is critical due to random pop-quizes. Tests are very 'detail-oriented'. Make sure to read the handouts he posts on BB. Basically - do what Prof. Meehan tell you that you should do - he means it. Definitely NOT an 'easy A' class.
He is a great teacher! Yes, he requires you to read, actually pay attention, and go to class, but it's college so get over it. He basically tells you when you'll have a pop quiz and emphasizes what will be on the tests. He's sarcastic and funny. If you study and do what's asked of you then you will be fine! I got an A+ in this class.
If you read the assigned chapter before class & actively participate, you should do well in the class! Read the book line by line because the exams are DETAIL-ORIENTED. He, however, CURVES the 2 exams. He is a lifesaver. I encourage you to take him.
Awesome professor! I took him for corrections this past Spring. Very sarcastic but knows what he is teaching. For all of you below complaining about reading, quit complaining; that's what college is all about. You will do well if you read the required text. I will be taking him again this Fall!
He seems like a decent guy the problem is he is very scatter-brained. He writes absolutely nothing on the board, has very very limited structure to his lectures, and has a hard time staying on topic. Time in his class would be better spent reading and memorizing the book. Oh and the fact he quotes himself on tests seems kind of self-involved.
Great professor. I had him for CJ 345 back in spring of 2011 and knows what he is teaching. Everyone quit whining about the reading and just do it!
Reading every word is a must. Three chapters per test - 4 tests, quiz every class. Extra credit is given every test/quiz but can lower your score if answer is wrong. Very scatter-brained. Doesn't listen well. Verbal lectures. Very detail oriented. Must know all vocabulary and court cases.
VERY detail oriented professor, but interesting class and book! Be prepared to read every little corner of the book and memorize every little word and percentage! Weekly quizzes, 1 paper, 4 exams. It sounds harder than what it really is, just go to his office hours (Trust me, it will be good for your grade)
I honestly do not recommend taking this professor! Hardly any lectures and is not organized at all! Quizzes weekly which for a normal class is ok, but pay attention to very minor detail like what is on page 296 or whats in the footnotes in the back of the book. He's not afraid to pick on people! Best of luck if you take him!
Didn't enjoy his class. He's an okay guy, but he gets off topic so much, all he does is talk really, there's no structure at all to his teaching but yet his tests are pretty hard. He is really really big on his paper and its a super tough paper to write. I don't recommend him, if it's between him and someone else, take the other person.
He has one foot out the door. He forgets things he says in class and is very inconsistent. Loves to give pop quizzes. MUST read the book WORD for WORD because he pulls quotes from it and uses them on quizzestests. Loves to ask about statistics. Tough only because of inconsistency. Condescending at times. WILL call on you in class. Come prepared.
if you want to FAIL, go ahead and take his class. he one of the toughest Professors in our CJ department. you have to read the book word by word. always gives pop up quizzes and goes off topic alot! HE NEEDS TO RETIRE ALREADY! he has been teaching for 25 years. i can't believe we have professors like him. DON't take his CRJU 330,300,345.
Meehan is by far one of the worst professors I have ever had. His lectures have no outlines whatsoever and since he has no real experience in the field, he has a hard time answering questions. What he lectures sometimes contradicts the book and he gets off track so often its hard to keep up with what is going on.
He is a great professor. Tough but good. You have to go to class because he will give you a quiz every class which helps with the exams.
Worst professor I've had by far, not only in my CJ classes but in my three years at CSUF. The lectures are horrible and he really doesn't teach. All he does is call on people to answer questions pulled from the textbook. The quizzes are ridiculous and so are the tests. I've gotten A's and B's in all of my classes until now. Take someone else.
There is a paper in his class that YOU HAVE TO DO if you don't he won't give you credit for this class. YOU MUST READ, he can not stress this enough. His funny, but if you don't meet his expectations he will be blunt with you. Takes attendance. His a very hard teacher, and it's not an easy A. So if your looking for easy, look somewhere else.
This class is not hard whatsoever. There are four tests, about eight or so quizzes, and a paper. How do you excel on the tests and quizzes? You read the book. That's it. The paper is not hard at all. I do recommend that you sign up early for the last group so that you have plenty of time to work on it. Also, attend class because he takes roll.
Worst professor I have ever had. He only talks, no power point, no notes You have to actually study and ready the book, then you take the test samething for exam and finals, you are on your own.
Professor Meehan was a bit confusing at times but all the exams and test questions came from the book. He wants and expects you to read ALOT. He's very understanding and is willing to help you, so take advantage of his office hours. If you read and outline the chapters you will get an A.
He's a funny guy, I have to admit. His lectures are all over the place and goes off topic so easily. READ. READ. READ. Memorize significant numbers. Gives pop quizzes almost every week. REAAAAD! Anything he says in class, articles, and text is fair game. Anything can be on his tests. He does not teach, you teach yourself by reading and memorizing.
Mr. Meehan is a great professor. He cares about teaching and wants students to learn and think critically. He's got a great sense of humor. That being said, he can be very tough. You must read everything assigned at every class, because there is usually a quiz next class. Only 4 exams. No paper. KNOW THE 4 PUNISHMENT PHILOSOPHIES!!!!
Professor Meehan is passionate and caring. He tells you how to pass his class the first day of class and gives you a fair warning of what it's going to be like. If you come to class prepared (The reading is a must) and ask him for help he will help you. He really cares about his students, take advantage of his office hours.
Meehan was an awesome professor. First day of class he tells you how to pass his class. Make sure to read before each class and take detailed notes because he calls on your during class. Each weeks there is a quiz, 10 questions worth 10% of your entire grade in the end. 3 tests in total and know the punishment philosophies!
He gave us a pop quiz and you had to write at least 3 of the subheadings from the chapter or else he made you leave class, really unfair if you actually read but don't pay attention to the headings. If you miss class you HAVE to email him with a good reason why or else he'll give you a zero if there is a quiz. Would not take his class ever again!
Kevin Meehan tells you exactly what he expects from you and it's up to you to earn your grade. You HAVE to read the textbook and all handouts he gives you before you attend the class. If you don't, you won't be ready for the pop quizzes or lectures. I enjoyed this class, but I read the textbook so that probably has something to do with it.
Kevin Meehan is tough but fair. You HAVE to read the book. I advise make bullet notes the chapter before he goes over it, so you have questions ready. He gives out handouts sometimes, so important to attend plus pop quizzes. He has a tendency to go on tangents. It was my first criminal justice class and he made it easy to understand.
DON'T take his class, really full of himself and can't teach for anything. He claims he has a PHD, but I am pretty sure he got it from a technical institute. Guy needs to get fired, the only reason he has his job is prob cuz of tenure. A carrot can teach better than this guy lol. Textbook is required and tests r strictly off the book.
This is professor needs some anger management classes. He is very hot headed. Yells at the students in class for very minor things. Doesn't even teach you much; you basically teach yourself by reading the book. Make sure you read every little thing in the book because it is fair game. No powerpoints. Would never take again.
There is always quizzes at the beginning of class. He calls on people randomly. Miss class? He'll call you out the next class on it. Very tough exams, he makes it so there is many generic right answers but he's very nit picky about dates and certain cases. Would not recommend, you won't pass unless you study the book word for word.
Not an easy teacher by an stretch of the imagination. But if you put the effort in, you will get a decent grade. I think a lot of the people on here complaining were just lazy students that didnt read their textbook or show up to class.
