He is a great professor. Helps out with just about anything that has to do wit accounting. laid back yet professional and has a great class atmosphere. hmwk isnt worth much, but be prepared with quizzes, tests and a 2 projects. if you arent prepared for those you WILL fail. very great professor if you wanna get into accounting as a profession
He is a good professor. Very helpful. You have to study and do everything in order to get a good grade. He is a someone who understands student. He wants you to learn and get a good grade, so he gives all u need to prepare and know where u at and what do u need to get your desired grade. TAKE HIM
He really knows his accounting and is really nice, but he has a hard time teaching all that he knows to the class.
If Acct. is 1 of your must take, I definately recommend Mello. He really cares, very clear, offer lots of help,is always there when u need him. For sure highly recommended.
After 1 1/2 year @ De Anza, Professor Mello is 1 out of many instructors that really makes you feel good about school, highly recommended, hard class, but he has a way to make you understand.
I have no doubt that he is the best acct prof in De Anza. As long as you dont miss classes and just complete all the assignment, you will get good grade. His class is very comprehensive lecture and passinate. Good luck :)
Extremely helpful professor. He is a little bit difficult, but you will get a good grade if you study, do your assignment and practice. Highly recommended.
Clearest and nicest professor around. He makes Accounting very easy and engages you. People never sleep in class, and he is very very nice. His exams are a little tricky though, but if you pay attention you will be fine. 2 exams, 1 final, 2 projects and weekly hwk. Tons of work but HE IS WORTH THE EFFORT! TAKE HIM!
two mid-terms, two projects, online homework for each chapter that is due every Sunday and one final exam which is not comprehensive. He is the best professor that i ever take in De Anza. He explains the subject very clearly, helpful to every student and he wants every student in his class to be successful. FULLY RECOMMENDED!
He is super talented in accounting. The amount of workload is comprehensively helpful for midterm and finals. He is very laid back in 1A, as it is still basic accounting. Expect quiz everyweek for acct 1B and 1C, but the quiz are helpful in understanding the material, not a burden at all. He is very open to his students.
His tests are worded extremely different from how he teaches in class.
Extremely helpful and passionate to help student succeeded. Doing the weekly assignments, quiz, and readings is a guaranteed A. Highly recommend.
BEST prof in De Anza! Extremely clear & helpful! But his tests can get tricky,so be careful.Other than tht,Mello is plain awesome.Workload is reasonable. He's very nice too!Take him if u can!!
I never rate any professors before, but after taking his Acct1a, I found the passion to recommend you guys to take his classes. He is very clear, detail and organized in explanation. Although he "scares" us a lot about project and test, they're easy and very helpful for your study; and especially for becoming professional in your future acct job
Doesn't take attendance but I still go to class. That's how much you learn in this class. He teaches some things that no other prof would bother teaching that'll help if you plan to go into business or otherwise. Gets straight to the point. Decent amount of funny to get you through class. 1 group quiz & hw/wk, and 2 projects/ qtr. Best prof ever.
Brings a lot of background experience and unlike many other professors very enthusiastic about teaching. Work through problems throughout the week allowing everyone thrive if they put in the work as well. Easy A IMO but im smarter than most :)
Mello is THE MAN! He inspires me to strive for my goals, and makes me believe that they are attainable. He's brilliantly well rounded, proving that you can be smart without being disconnected from the world. Great role model for me. Just wish he were a 49er fan instead of a Bears fan! ;-)
I love Mr. Mello, you really learn in this class. This is not an easy class but if you want to learn accounting, take this one. He cares about his students and wants us to learn. He is funny and adds real life experiences so we can understand better. he is Awesome,I wished he thought account 1c as well.
this is my first time commenting on RMP, KEVIN MELLO is the best teacher you can get for accounting! he requires a lot of work but its all worth it. if you have to take accounting, take it with him. someone has to be stupid not to take him class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Kevin Mello is easily one of the best teachers I have ever had, if not the best. He is vastly knowledgeable in accounting and is able to convey that knowledge to the class clearly. I look forward to his 930 class everyday. In short, Mello is THE MAN! I hope he gets tenured so that he can continue to inspire his students for years to come.
One of the best Acct professors @ Deanza.Very approachable and highly knowledgeable.
Dedicated, passionate teacher who stays in contact with the business world. His teaching is relevant and delivered with humor. He can be blunt, but he's never mean. The material is difficult for me, but he does a great job breaking it down into manageable pieces (without dumbing it down). If you have to take accounting, take it with him.
he is a really good professor but his class is really hard! i go to all the classes and i read the textbook and do the homework but i still struggle on the midterms. recommended for accounting majors!
Mello's class is definitely not the easiest at de anza, but with some effort, you have the potential of walking away with a deep understanding of the material thanks to Mello's clear instruction. from time to time he will also offer little pearls of wisdom from the business world including how to write bus.memos and tips for successful interviews.
Professor Mello is an amazing teacher. I took him over a year ago for Acct 1A and 1B and got and A- in both classes. The class isn't easy but if you apply yourself you can get an A for sure. Mello is also a great help if you see him after or outside of class. He's great at teaching and really knows how to break things down and explain them well.
2 tests, 1 final + 2 projects. Quiz for each chapter every week. Make sure you do Acct Problems before taking tests because that will be really helpful. Mello isn't very easy but you will get an A if you study with effort. Highly recommend!
Mello is a brilliant and outstanding professor. His lectures are very clear and I ended up learning the material with deep understanding. His class is not the easiest one fore sure but if you want to learn accounting, then absolutely take his class. I highly recommend him. You will need to put in some effort to succeed but you will learn so much.
great professor!!!
The best professor I have encountered at De Anza. Everyone needs to at least take a class with him. His lectures and explanation of the materials are very clear. Highly recommended!
He's so hot. I wish he made more eye contact with the class 'cause ugh he's hot. As for the coursework, he's not super easy but if you apply yourself and read the material you will be ok. Quizzes have a group comparison @ end & tests are straightforward. Like all classes, you need to read the book/do the damn work to get an A.
Best professor I have had at De Anza thus far. Not only is he willing to give you additional support, but he constantly reassures his students that he is there during office hours, email etc. Another nice thing is that he is still active in the field (summer) so his material seems more relevant. More than a professor; sort of like a life mentor.
Professor Mello is one of the best teachers I have taken at Deanza! He is clear and gets to the point. Reading the book is of coarse a must to understand Accounting. Highly recommend him for Accounting majors!
Mello is a great teacher. I love the way he cares about his students. He motivates you, teaches you lots out of the text book, and be very nice with everyone. As long as you study hard, you'll never get a bad grade in his class.
very nice, helpful, he knows the subject, and is funny. quizzes are easy, midterms are sometimes tricky. do all of the assigned homeworks and projects seriously(they help a lot), and you'll do fine. very passionate about teaching and can give you very insightful thoughts in class. i love him. VERY RECOMMENDED!! TAKE HIM!, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!
He teaches beyond the textbook material. He really established a substantial foundation in my accounting skills and knowledge. He knows each of his students well and he does his best to help them succeed. His lectures are crystal clear and I learned a lot from him. I was inspired to be motivated in my education because of him.
Mello is a great teacher! His lectures are very organized and clear and he's willing to help students. One of the best teachers I've had at de anza. However his class is not easy, you have to work to get a good grade. Hw and quizzes due every week (get to work in groups), also 2 projects. Midterms are fair game and he's a very generous grader! :)
If you really want to learn about accounting and you are looking for an instructor who can provide excellent teaching, take him! The best instructor I have had at De Anza. He is not as hard as many people said. As long as you study, you will be perfectly fine. Highly recommended!
1B is hard, but Mello makes sure the student is able to conceptualize the class instead of just memorize formulas. This method makes it so much easier, just make sure to read the book, as he uses it a lot! Online homework is only 10 questions, once a week. Funny guy, talks about current news, and gives points if multiple students missed a question.
Great Teacher! If you like to study in the group he is giving you 2 group projects.
I had the utmost privilege of being Mello's student for the entire accounting sequence. Not only is he serious about cheaters & making sure everyone works hard, he also gives advice on things outside of school & shares funny stories about his VC days. He may be sarcastic, but he's an inspiration. His milestone speech is my favorite. THE BEST EVER!!
Pr.Mello is the best! You will love Accounting. His is enthuastic about his class, respectful, understanding. You will feel like you are already in a working environment. His inspiring speeches and stories about his past experience in VC are priceless! I wish there were more of pr. Mello's classes.
The nicest professor at De Anza! He writes the best recommendation letters and his lectures are very clear. Never learned Accounting before taking his class and he made the whole thing seem easy. Take him.
he is good help us a lot and very funny
Professor Mello is one of the best teachers I have ever had! I took him for ACCT 1 A, B & C. He inspired me to become a better student. It's hard work in his class...but worth it! I struggled at times but fought my way to get an A! Love this teacher & his passion!
Best teacher I have ever had !!!! He is very experienced and knows exactly what he is talking about. He is understanding and is clear with all his lectures. If majoring in business or accounting you should definitely take him !!!! =)
Professor Mello taught extremely well at a level that everyone could understand. You must attend class everyday not because it's mandatory but he'll explain the chapters in the most concise way and teach you what you need to know. He's funny and I actually looked forward to attending his classes everyday. Exams aren't hard if you attend class
Great and very knowledgeable professor!
He is a really good professor that shows a high level of passion in class. However, the class is not an easy A. you have to the works and tests are creating the own account sheets.
Mr. Mello is an amazing teacher who exudes passion and humor. He makes accounting about as fun as it could ever get. The work is demanding, but he prepares you every step of the way, and there are no surprises whatsoever.
I took this class online this past qtr. Prof. Mello was clear in what he expected. As long as you read the book, work through the examples, HW, and quizzes, you will understand accounting and will do well on the exams and the course. This is exactly what I did, and I got an A! Everything is online, except for the on-campus final exam in MLC.
All I can say is that prof. Mello is very helpful. You do have to put a lot of work but it is possible to get good grade. Very generous when it comes to grading and he is just a nice person period. Highly recommended.
Professor Mello is an awesome accounting professor. It was my first quarter taking it with him and I regret not taking 1A/1B with him as well. Extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. I never once felt lost in his class because he does such a good job explaining things. Tests are pretty straight forward if you study. You won't regret taking him.
Professor Mello is basically a boss/brother/father/advisor all in one. He radiates the passion he has for teaching and education, which is hard to find these days. He is *not* easy at all, but he is very helpful. Make a friend and help each other out in class, and you'll do fine. Take his classes, he will make you love accounting.
Take Prof. Mello if u want to excel and understand the subject. It won't be an easy A in his class, but rather u have to work really hard for it. That is what the real world is like, & Prof. Mello emphasized it often throughout the quarter. He teaches clearly. His exams are not that hard if you study.
What can you say about Prof. Mello. He really really really cares about student success and just flat out awesome teacher. You won't get easy A in this class but if he gives you all kind of tools. Homework online and group projects. Nice human being. Take this teacher and you will learn alot about class and life.
Prof. Mello is awesome. He's a very generous grader. He made the confusing material in the textbooks become so clear and understandable. He's always willing to answer your questions and give you great advises about life and career. With him, you would learn not only accounting but also life. He's funny and helpful. Take him!
Takes very difficult material and breaks it down so you can understand the concepts. You will have to study a lot. You can't just memorize stuff. He wants you to think. But if you need help, he gets back to you quickly with e-mail and is always at his office hour. As long as you work hard he will help you learn the material.
I took this online class unprepared and have learned that it takes more than personal knowledge and selfish gain to truly be a good student. He prepares bluntly what he asks for.
He is an amazing teacher! I highly reccomend people to take this class. He is very clear and passionate. I really felt like I was able to understand accounting to a decent level. Unfortunately his classes fill up fast so I had to take someone else for 1B. My 1B teacher only barely scrapes the subject. No one teaches like he does. Take him.
This class is the place to learn. In his class, you can learn not only accounting but more than acct. You will realize that acct is not a profession that simply crunching number, but there is a lot more. You can learn acct in other prof's class, but here you can learn how to use the knowledge of acct. Kevin Mello, the best acct Prof in De Anza.
Best accounting teacher I've ever taken. He gives his real life experience to make lectures not so boring. The material itself is not easy, but he explains it in a way that you can understand. Study, study, study! 3 midterms, drops lowest grade. Gives partial credit on every test so don't leave anything blank.
One of the best Professors ever. You will learn Accounting, and you will get some unsolicited advice about life after college, finding a job, etc. Homework is done online weekly, pop quizzes weekly. Exams are pretty complex and require you to actually understand the material at a fundamental level. You need the textbook.
One of the best Professors ever. You will learn Accounting, and you will get some unsolicited advice about life after college, finding a job, etc. Homework is done online weekly, pop quizzes weekly. The best of the best! 51B might be the hardest acct class, but he guides you through it. He is like a coach, not only teaching you, but also encouraging and inspiring you. I enjoyed every class he teaches. It's a pitty that I did not take 1B and 1C from him. Besides acct knowledge, he tells you life. It's my luck to be his students.
I have taken all levels of accounting and I have to say I that I gained the most knowledge from Kevins class and felt more drawn into the the topic versus other teachers. I am by no mean a great student but Kevin makes you to want to be in this lectures and learn important accounting concepts. Expect tough exams and a group project. Recommended A+
I took Keith for 1A and Kevin for 1C and Kevin was by far the more difficult teacher. Kevin goes above and beyond his role as an accounting teacher and takes time to help students not only with the class, but with life advice as well. Sincerely one of the kindest and most intelligent instructors at De Anza.
Excellent teacher, one of the best. You will learn not just accounting, but how to be a better student and employee.
The material in 51B is horribly difficult. Prof. Mello did an excellent job of breaking it down to manageable pieces and focused on helping us understand the concepts involved. His lectures are filled with useful, often hilarious advice on both accounting and life. The exams are difficult, but if you get the concepts, you'll be fine.
Amazing professor who really helped me understand the concepts behind accounting that had built me a strong foundation. Just like all the other great reviews for this professor, you really should not miss the opportunity to take his classes.
Honestly if you are not an accounting major, do yourself a favor and take another professor. Mello is a great person and he goes beyond the basics you need to know but currently so many of us are getting crushed by the difficulty that its just very discouraging. Don't get me wrong, he's a great professor, but get ready to learn a lot on your own
Kevin Mello is definitely a hard professor because he expects a lot out of you, he makes you work for your grade. He is VERY generous on partial credit on exams. His lectures aren't boring and lets you check quiz answers with a group. He mainly just wants the best for you and wants you to learn! Overall, the class isn't too bad. Would recommend!
I AM GLAD I took 1B with Kevin, despite all the rumors about how hard it is. His exams and projects can be hard, as he makes them as realistic as we can handle. But I got to learn to see outside the frame of school, which was rarely offered by college-level courses. I'm a half Acct/business major now. Worth learning from real CPA/CFO.
Took him for both 1B and 1C. Excellent professor who really cares. He's great at explaining concepts and will take the time to explain to you afterclass/office hours. As long as you actually take the time to practice and understand problems you'll have no problem. Don't be scared of other reviews saying hes hard, hes not if you put effort in it
Took Kevin's class for 51A and 51B, very inspirational teacher, especially as an Accounting major. One of those professors that truly makes you want to come to class, even if its just to hear his stories! The classes are tough, but study the case notes rigorously and show as much as work as you can on exams to do well.
51B is really hard, but Prof Mello explains the concepts clearly and thoroughly. Make sure you read the chapter notes before class, then come to class and ask questions. Remember to do the homework; or else you'll get lost. His tests are quite hard; but he'll give you partial credits. As long as you spend enough time for hw, you'll be fine.
honestly the best teacher in de anza. he teaches really well and is really respected by all students. he does not only focus on your grades in college but also your future: jobs, internship and career in general. tests are not hard, but you will need to study. take him if you truly want to learn something out of this class :)
I took prof. Mello for both 1B and 1C! I hate morning classes but even though his class is early I never miss his class at all. His tests are challenging but if you study correctly you are guaranteed an A. He jokes a lot and often provides insights about how to get internships and how to perform at your future job etc. His classes are the best ;)
I wouldve taken him for 1C but he wasnt teaching spring. Best teacher Ive ever had. Not only is he knowledgeable, but he knows how to teach and explain things. He makes you conceptualize instead of memorizing. Tests are like cases we do in class, no mc. Very generous with partial credit. Great if you actually wants to learn. Super nice & funny too!
Best instructor ever. I wish I could take him for 1C but he's not teaching this quarter. People say his class is hard, but it really isn't. Read the textbook, understand the examples, and pay attention to the cases done in class. He's very knowledgeable about business and interview/ internship things and prepares you for real life.
Forgive him for how hard Intermediate Accounting is going to be. Even he knows it's very hard to understand. He's just doing the best he can to make it at understandable as possible. In fact, you really should be complaining to those who made the textbook to be honest.
Basically the BEST professor I have ever taken. His class is hard, but he prepares us for the future. He expects a lot from his students. He really, really cares about his students. I definitely regret not taking him any earlier!
He may look strict but he is actually very helpful. More than the knowledge on book, he teaches you what real working environment is like. Quizzes could be tricky but you are allowed to share the answers with group mates. Just pay attention in class, study what he taught and do similar questions and you will be fine! Best class experience ever! :)
I struggled a bit in the beginning because I took 1B almost a year before taking 1C but he is a nice guy with good lectures. Chapter quizzes and hw assignments weekly along with three tests plus final and one group project along with one solo project. Drops 4 of the 9 quizzes and 1 of the 3 midterms
To describe intermediate accounting, it is the equivalent of of being on a surfboard during a tsunami: You really don't know if you can ride it out, but you sure as hell hope you do. He provides notes for online people, but get ready to read and practice like no other. Tries to make acct'ing understandable, but can't blame him for hard concepts.
Kevin Mello is a huge balloon. I trust these review and took his class and I only get disappointment . He just makes you discourage and says not everybody can finish college not every do this do that Totally EGO! Class is not hard but his grading criteria is trash. if you wanna get an A you need to take 465 points out of 500 and there is 3 midterm
This class changed my study skills entirely for the better. While I'm normally an A student, I'm really proud of my B. Mello definitely made students work for their grade. He treats us like adults & he is knowledgeable. This class may not boost your gpa, but it'll be a wonderful learning experience. Take him if you want to have a good grasp of acct
His class has to be the most challenging class Ive taken so far. If you take your class STUDY AHEAD Im not joking. He doesnt waste time for people who dont come prepared. Overall really experienced teacher who cares for your future in business but he will not coddle you.
He gives you good feedback and wants you to work hard for your grade. Doesn't accommodate people with learning disabilities. He also doesn't let you use 1 sheet of paper on the exams. He expects you to memorize all the equations in the textbook. Read everything from the textbook.
Top 5 teacher I have ever taken. Take him if you get the chance! He is hard, but extremely knowledgeable, and if you put in the work, you will have an amazing foundation for accounting. Accounting 1B is already a hard class, and while Professor Mello doesn't make it easier, he definitely makes it so that you actually learn.
I thought I would take Kevin based on the good ratings but I guess not. When I got into his class, he said his grading system would be to get 465 points to get an A. He doesnt even allow a cheat sheet. I literally had to drop his class early in the quarter. I wouldnt recommend him.
Provides very clear, detailed notes to help you study the material. Shares tips/info to help you with your career in acct. Work hx. in acct, organized, & prepared. Can use disrespectful, abrasive tone and relies on corp. mgmt techniques to manage class- one way top down communication. Needs training in student centered teaching, but has potential.
Explains the concept, does a practice problem for you, has the class do a practice problem, and goes over the answer. Super methodical but worked great for a learner like me who needs step-by-step, organized teaching. NOT AN EASY A but if you study well, you'll learn skills you'll need if you go further into accounting. Read the book before class.
I'm sure hes a great teacher for those who take him in person. Beware for all who take his online class that the format of the test is weird and you have to actually "submit" each answer. I wasn't aware of this and ultimately a large portion of my final was left incomplete, costing me an A in the class. He was unwilling to accommodate after.
His lectures are very fast-paced; he uses a lot of abbreviations, so do the readings before lectures help a lot. Although attendance is not mandatory, you skip class you won't pass. He not only teaches you the concepts of accounting but also helps you to change your way of studying. With him, do the work, you are no longer a procrastinator.
As many review said before, yes Professor Mello makes you work for his class. Even in Corona Pandemic, he still provided us with a high quality lecture and learning material. His class does not only prepare you academically but also professionally. You will be able to pass the gate keeper tests, given by the companies. Please do not skip class!
Kevin is strict and unaccommodating. Kevin wants you to work hard and has very little room for you otherwise. He is quick to let you know of this. He is a satisfied professional and has a lot of respect for Accounting. He wants you to be the same. EGO is present and with that comes sensitivity to disrespect of his standards. You will learn!
Professor Mello provided the online quality classes as good as the in person classes. He gives a lot of good career advices. His classes are tough, and they are valuable . After finishing his classes, I can apply what I learn in my works. Accounting 1 C is hard. What you learn from Professor Mello will prepare you for a career. He does care !
I truly think he believes every student is an accounting major and/or are math scholars. Just flat out rude and condescending. The midterms felt like he was trying to trap students in a bad grade, he isn't flexible and rarely lenient unless students speak up to him about his attitude. "The average student only takes.." "In my 15 yrs of teaching.."
Although Prof Mello is tough, hes incredibly passionate in teaching acct. The way his class works is he posts narrated PPTs on canvas as his lecture and the actual (unrecorded) Zoom class time is used to do acct problems and examples. Weekly Cengage hw & quizzes, weekly Canvas exercise, 2 projects (1 individual, 1 in group), 2 midterms, 1 final
Took all my accounting courses from him 8 years ago. Very knowledgeable and experienced. He prepared me well to be successful on my other accounting courses after I transferred to SJSU. Knowing the basic math well is very helpful. Very impressive professor I can still recall some little stories he told in class.
Well rounded teacher that cares about his students.
He was extremely rude to students saying we had the "lowest grades". This class is a full-time job 40 hours a week it is ridiculous! Super tough grader. Midterms and finals were insanely hard with no time. He puts in hard work for material but does not give enough time. Students all got bad grades this quarter and everyone complained. DO NOT TAKE!!
No lectures, only (1st-grade lvl) PPT, Cengage teach better than him, self-centered and inflexible. beware: Test does NOT match what you learned. He is here to FAIL students not teach, 2 hrs for each test with 25 (MC)multiple choice and 3 (HQ) Handwritten Questions, final is 2 hrs 25 MC with 5 HQ (test on everything in ACCT 1B). PREPARE TO FAIL
Took all my accounting courses from him before transferred. Very detailed lecture and a lot of chance to practice. Looking for hardworking/smart teammates early or you will end up doing most part of the project while your teammates are struggling.
One suggestion he could work on is giving the benfit of the doubt and not telling students that they can be homeless if they aren't there to work. He could also explain things as he does them like his brother instead of having everything prepped so students just copy things down.
First half you can use google doc. But second half you have to write by hand on paper. Doesn't care about student. Even you sick but not turning on time you get 0. Doesn't care about your health are never give you extension.
Teacher does not care for student circumstances, which in current times, automatically gets a low score. Very inflexible and uncaring.
When working with Professor Mello, I had the feeling as if he was the mentor who was helping you grow in your careers. Yes, his class is challenging and rewarding. In fact, I have landed several job offers thanks to his teaching! If you care about your career in accounting, I would recommend professor Mello.
The difficulty part of accounting 1B are stock and cash flow. However, professor Mello will teach you to apply the stock tree and cash flow analysis. These would help you understanding the concept more clearly! After completing his final project (financial report), I included that project into my resume. It helped me a lot with job hunting.
I think Professor Mello teaches accounting 1 C to the next level. I was so confused about the operating budgets. His example and classwork clarified my misunderstanding. If fact, I included what I learned from his class , as an experience in my resume. Then I aced my interviews and had several job offers!
Indeed accounting 1 C was a tough class for me. However, Professor Mello's teaching and class work does prepare me for my career. Even though I have not earned the A, I am so glad that I can utilize the knowledge I gain from in class in my career.
I enjoyed the group projects in Professor Mello's class. I really learned by doing them! He really made you work hard for the grades By the end of the day, you will learn accounting by heart!
I took Professor Mello back in 2020, and I must say that he is a fair grader, who will put the effort to help his students out. If you spent time to review the course materials, and go to his office hours, I promise you will succeed in his class.
although accounting is a hard class in general, he's very good at explaining how accounting work and why. Homework due every Sunday along with a quiz but only takes about an hour to do and its online. textbooks are "required" but you can check it out at the library for free. Very open about grading criteria. Good class and awesome teacher
Kevin is very knowledgeable about the topics and is happy to answer any questions about the material during class/ office hours. Tests are difficult but resemble the in class exercises and his power points (so if you study them well you should get an A or B). I'm really happy I took this class and feel like I've learned a lot. Would 100% recommend.
Even though this is an online class, Professor Mello did put a lot of effort into his class. To be successful , you should do the case note works for each chapter. The knowledge you gain in his class will benefit your future career.
Professor Mello 's gave out exercises and work examples. You can follow these notes and work on the problem. He has office hours which is very helpful. In ACCT 51 B, Lease and Dillutive stock are the most difficult ones. Professor notes made them easy to understand. I would recommend you to take any accounting classes with Professor Mello.
Mello is a great professor, you can learn a lot from him and he will give great advice if you ask. His class is harder compared to other accounting professors so make sure you attend all lectures and stay on top of the reading/hw because you have to work for your grade!
I could have done better in this class had I studied more and didn't procrastinate. I liked the structure of his class and the notes that he prepared for us were easy to digest. Kevin is very clear about his expectations from day 1. don't recommend mello for lazy students who are trying to do the bare minimum to pass
Through his meticulously crafted courses, such as 51A and 51B, I forged a robust foundation in accounting as I embark on my career journey. Recently, I secured a coveted position as a Tax Auditor at the state level, a testament to the efficacy of Professor Mello's teachings. I wholeheartedly endorse enrolling in Professor Mello's classes.
Loved having him as a teacher, felt like he really got to know his students. His teaching pace was also really good and I felt like I understood all the concepts that were taught.
Amazing professor and class! I took Prof. Mello for 1B and 1C, the structure of his class is great and makes it really easy to study and prepare for tests. You have to put work in to succeed in this class but it's well worth it
Mello's ACC1B is structured well, with clear expectations and helpful class notes. Though tests are challenging, studying his slides and practice problems leads to strong results. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
Great professor, genuinely cares about his students, and is incredibly passionate about what he teaches. Midterms are hard but as long as you study enough, they aren't hard to ace.
Mr. Mello is a no-BS professor who genuinely wants to help you thrive. He assigns about 1 hw assignment and 1 quiz each weekend, along with one project due a little before or after the midterm. He also drops the lowest hw and quiz scores. His focus is on learning, not memorizing. If you are not sure about his class, don't be—you won't regret it!
Professor Mello is hands down the greatest teacher I've ever had while attending De Anza. He really pushes you to strive for greatness, which is something I valued a lot by attending his class. An amazing lecturer. And as long as you put in the required work/effort in to this course, you'll be able to pass the class with an A and/or B no problem :)
A professor that truly cares about his students future's. He has an in class exercise every period which you get points for, along with hw and a quiz due every other week. There are two midterms and a final which aren't too hard if you simply study the in class and online examples for a couple hours. Overall very professional and straight forward.
Great and smart professor, make sure u have a solid 1A foundation before coming into this class, tests are hard and no cheat sheet allowed, clear criteria. don't rec for lazy students. Experienced in business/finance field and offers great advice throughout class. Wish I studied more, really makes you learn the material.
ONLY TAKE IT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE SOLID KNOWLEDGE OF ACCOUNTING. If you want to learn more in simple ways at a slower pace, he is not the guy. HE LIKES TO CHALLENGE HIS CLASS. Sometimes, exam questions are not straightforward. no cheat sheet. Also you are not filling out numbers in Cengage for exams you are handwriting everything.
Amazing professor, he really cares about his students. Showing up to class is the best thing you can do for this; he has in-class exercises that you get credit for just trying. The homework isn't hard, but it doesn't entirely relate to the exams. Show up and you will do great.
Had Professor Mello for 1C and 51A this quarter. He gives students all the resources needed to learn the concepts/material and do well in his classes.
Mello is not the easiest professor for 1B, but if you are a business or accounting major I still highly recommend him. Not only do you learn a lot in his class, but he is a great person to ask for career or life advice. If you are commited and a hard worker, come to his officers and/or use the tutors you can most definitely succeed in this class.
Professor Mello is a great teacher. If you Read the chapter, DO the online homework, pay attention to the in-class lecutres and take notes you will be fine. All accounting courses are hard, you have to do the work and his standards are high. With that being said, professor Mello gives you the tools you need to learn Accounting.
An awesome professor, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do but I'm sure I want to major in acct after taking him for 1A. I plan on taking him for 1B & 1C. He teaches well, is clear what will be on the tests, & has hw/in class exercises/quizzes to supplement your grade if you're not that great at tests. Highly recommend, I love hearing his stories too!
It's not an easy class, but this is a meaningful challenge that you can overcome by paying attention to lectures, doing your work/studying outside of class, if you do this things you will succeed. Professor Mello is the GOAT.
