Ok Kevin is 1st of all a great professor I would say but he don't like when ppl call him that. Just call him teacher,anyways, he grades hard but fairly easy cuz he tell's you exactly what he expects from you.One crazy thing I did find out about him is that he finds crazy amount of info about the subject your discussin' and presents it in class..

Prof. Menton is such a great teacher. Hes inspirational and hot. Hes very stricted and expects you to do what he assigns. He is understanding and willing to help you out. Take advantage of his office hours!!! there a must!

Very entertaining and good at explaining material. Post all the homework online. Expects lots of participation, if you do not like participating do not take the class. 3 in class essay and 3 home essays. Grades hard because he tells you exactly what he wants. Lots of homework. Very willing to give you help when you need it.

This guys awesome. Makes you work hard but tells you what he expects. you ahve to do 3 essays and 3 in class essays. He listens to alot of awesome music too!can relate to his students. Class participation is a must otherwise dont take the class!

Really enjoyed the class he made it interesting. Makes you think out of the box. Helpfull when it comes down to essays.

Real strict and hard,do not sugggest taking unless your really intrested in hip hop for a English class...does not keep to his grading standards.But he is funny and will throw interesting subjects at you but this is a English class but it doesnt feel like one.

Professor Menton is strict, but very helpful. Definitely not an easy A. The class is really interesting if you're into hip hop. Overall Good Teacher, i enjoyed the class =] And he's super sexy hehe

He is a clear and organized teacher (has all his assigments online),and helps you to write essays. However, he has a horrible personality and if you do not participate in class, he gats really angry. You have to write 3 in-class essays, 3 take-home essays, and homework every day. The good thing is he gives 35 points of extra credit. NOT AN EASY A!

Too much hip hop; If you're into it, have fun :) Good teacher. Helpful with your essays (One-on-one conferences are great) PARTICIPATION IS HIGHLY REQUIRED or he goes nuts.

Great class. The HW is online so that's helpful. The one on one conferences are also helpful and the class is on Hip Hop but you can change up your essays with another sub-genre.

Really great teacher, i really learned how to write in prof menton's class. would i take his class again? in a second... i almost regret not taking him for my english 1 class. there are quite a few HW assignments, almost 1 per class. he is a demanding teacher, but if you put in the work he asks for you will really be prepared for english 1. i was.

he is a very helpful teacher... has one on one conference in order for him to help u get better... he is straight out with u!! he gives it straight to u!!! doesnt go easy on u!!! he wants u to try the best you can!!! he a trUe thug!!!!

You are missing out by not taking Menton's class.. However, if you don't like being questioned and can't deal with criticism, this is not the class for you. He is sarcastic and blunt. But he is engaging, highly intelligent, and marches to the beat of his own drum. His class was one that I can truly say I will never forget.

Menton's great. If you want an easy A, don't bother. Lots of homework, but pretty interesting subjects (ie graffiti, hiphop, globalization). Grades hard, but tells you exactly what he expects on essays and homework. Uses ecompanion so everything is organized. Participation is a must. He's easy to get a hold of. Extra credit work. and yes, he's HOT!

Loved this class. Very good, helpful teacher. Uses graffiti and globalization as the subjects. There are 3 in-class essays (pt.50/50/100)3 reg. essays (pt.100/150/& 300 for the research paper). HW some written work, mainly reading DO THE READING! & PARTICIPATE in class. Clear on expectations from students. Wish I could take him again. Suggested.

K, the low down: Go to class, do the assignments, and participate! The lectures are interesting and usually help w/ whichever essay we had to write. He can be a bit of a prick sometimes, but just do the assignments. GO TO THE WRITING CENTER if you're not that great a writer. He does give 20 extra credit points. I got a B in his class and what helped me get that was attendance and participation. It's not the easiest class but it's interesting.

He's not hot. Idk what you women and maybe some men are talking about. It is an interesting class, however If you're not into subculture don't take the class. He gives 20 points of extra credit. Essays are pretty simple. Show up and participate.

menton is 1 of my fav college professors yet. he is very honest and will cause u to think about the things u say in that class. the people who gave him a bad review are probably mad because they felt stupid. if u are looking for an easy A then dont take his class because u will be disappointed. he has a sarcastic humor and thats wat makes it funny

If you can speak up for your self and have attitude, this is the right class to take. He loves to arg... Your mind will expand with Menton's class. Do everything he says and you are fine. However, if you don't want to learn and progress it is highly unlikely you will get an A. Hot? Vulcanic eruption. Fun and useful class.

Ohhhh Menton. Not the class for an easy A. Persians stay away. I took him and ended up with an A after working like crazy. if you end up having to take him, just make sure to meet with him in office hours to go over your essay. write it a week early, meet with him, and you will get an A. Otherwise, he is PMS'y, lots of attitude, but still fun class

One of the best english professor at Smc. I took him for 2 semesters and my writing has improved drasticly.Go to His office hours he is extreamly helpful.You have to work hard but you also have to speak up and speak your mind.If you want to be a better writer take him.If your lazy dont take him,Best prof ever.

Great professor, very helpful, but expects a lot from you. Participate in class, do the assignments, an get any help you can from him or the writing center because his grading style is extremely strict, but it's all for your benefit. Do the extra credit, as it can mean a difference in final letter grade!

Kevin Menton is a really good professor, but if you are looking for an easy A professor, go get yourself another professor. If you want to know where your writing truly stands, then take professor menton?s class. Make your class fun by talking to him, and participate by answering question. Those points will help you a lot at the end of the semester

Prof Menton is one of the best Professors at SMC. he is very clear and helpful. my writing improved so much after his class, and im really thankful for that. However, if you think you can do nothing and get an A, ur wrong. you really have to work hard in his class. finish ur essays in advanced(a week) and ask him for feedback; he is really helpful.

Horrible!!!! Mean grader! Has his days when he will pms to everyone in the class! Very rude, cancelled class once because we weren't prepared for a homework that he forgot to give us!! After we confronted him about it he was making up excuses. Let me do you a favor by telling you pleeeaasee DON'T take him.

This class is challenging but you'll definitely improve your writing skill. Menton has a bad temper so be aware. Other than that, nothing to complain. Take advantage of his office hours.

Menton can be my Mentor! He's awesome and a really great teacher. He actually cares that his students learn from the lesson. Not an easy A, you have to push yourself to the limit. But it's not a bad thing, because everything that you will learn from his class is greatly helpful to all the things you desire to do. Participate as much as you can. :)

I had Mr. Menton for both English 21B and English 1. Love his class. He isn't easy but you will honestly learn how to write. He's a deep teacher that thinks past whats in front of him. As far as some of the comments about being rude. NEGAITIVE!! He's more so straight forward. I guess some can't handle that. Overall cool teacher

Professor Menton is an awesome teacher. He is funny, smart, and his teaching methods are unique... He allowed my class to rewrite the syllabus so that we could write about what we wanted to write about. He is demanding and he wont put up with any crap. If you pay attention, turn in your work on time, you should do fine in the class.

Well he is not easy that is for sure. Yeah he is strict and rude sometimes but he really is there to help. He will expect a lot from you. If you want something easy he is NOT the guy for you.

Professor Kevin Menton is by far one of my favorite professors at SMC. Menton, has a great personality but can be bluntly honest at times. As far as his teaching methods he is very clear/helpful with his instructions on classwork, homework, and essays. However, if you are considering in taking his class, take it serious because it is easy to fail.

Interesting teacher. This class is hard, but you will learn from him! He can come off as rude and kind of dopey, but he really knows his craft. Not a class to take if you want an easy A, but if you have an open mind and really wants to learn, Menton can be one of the best teachers you will ever have.

Prof. Menton is great at teaching! He's helpful, and willing to help you improve in your writing. He gets you thinking and has you questioning so many things. The readings assigned are also great. However, you have to be ready to learn, and be willing to do a lot of work!

Good Professor that is bluntly honest with you and really tries to help if you want to be helped. Attend office hours to show you care. Teaches you how to write if you still don't know how to.

Despite his sarcasm and bluntness, He is a truly outstanding professor. If you do all your assignments, you will learn so much from this class. He is VERY organized and knows what he wants. Yes, he can be intimidating and pushy but it is all under good intentions. I should warn you that he hates stupid questions. Expect homework EVERYDAY.

Professor Menton is brutally honest, highly intelligent, passionate about his job, and genuinely want his student to pass. If you put in 100%, he will have your back. If you want to half measure the reading or papers, do not take this class. Professor Menton as a person is super rad. I got a 97% (rare) because I gave it 100% went to office hours

Menton is a blunt and honest man. He makes a lot of funny but true jokes that go hand in hand with the material he teaches. He really likes people who think outside of their box and show it on their essays. This class is no joke but it's a good class. Not your typical English professor.

Professor Menton is truly an effective English Professor. Anyone indicating otherwise is either lazy or reluctant to put forth the effort necessary to succeed. Menton helped me improve my reading & writing skills significantly. Group discussions are the best. You do have to work hard for your grade. Highly recommend. You won't regret it.

Really great teacher - open to anyone who wants help. He's a bit intimidating, though, and his language is quite foul unfortunately (I wish he'd use better vocabulary - for heaven's sake, he's an English teacher!). Menton is the best!! Best learning experience I've had at SMC. He assigns interesting books and articles that will grab your attention. Most importantly, he helps you improve your writing skills in order to write at a college level. You do have to work hard for your grade and participatecontribute to class discussions consistently. Students who complain about him are lazy and can't handle a rigorous English class that will prepare them to write effectively! Menton is an exceptional Professor that will require you to work hard, but is willing to help a student if needed! He's also very supportive with Letters of Rec. and scholarship opportunities! BEST PROFESSOR AND CLASS! This class is not easy, but if you work hard and shoe Prof. Menton you are dedicated and serious you will succeed. It is all about working hard, and showing effort. A GRADE YOU WORK FOR .If you don't want to work hard this class is not for you. Menton helped me become a much better writer. Can be intimidating but really cares about his students. Fair grader, you get what you put in.

Super easy class. I did not use the textbook at all and still passed with an " A". He gets super annoying when he talks about the "old days" and how he use to drink while writing his papers. Nobody cares about that and he should worry more about actually teaching. Overall, he isn't that great.

Menton is one of the best professors I've had. His class in NOT easy. However, as a result of taking his class I feel way more confident in my writing skills. He likes to challenge you and make you think for yourself, not something many professors do. He's very blunt & straightforward but it's cause he wants you to learn. It's tough love.

In Professor Menton's class he is encouraging, witty and focused. When you enter his class expect to talk and share your ideas and listen for new ideas. In my best estimation he is trying to encourage students how to think and how to write rather than the cookie cutter "5 page and done". he will give you a lot of room to write freely. Great teacher

I passed with an easy B. Homework were based on current events which took 10 to 15 minutes to read. We discussed whatever reading assignment during class. He's really big on class discussions to enable ourselves to think for ourselves and form our own opinions and ideas

Prof. Mentons class was life changing. I earned an A, it was not easy, but I left a much better student & writer. He genuinely wants the best for you, so he is frank but sincere and provides resources to make sure you thrive in his class. An exciting course, that is NOT lecture heavy. Do the assigned reading, engage & you'll earn a good grade.

Honestly if your a dedicated student and are looking to develop your reading and writing skills then Professor Menton is the way to go. Professor Menton made himself available the entire year and went the extra mile to ensure that we understood what we were writing. If you are a lazy uncommitted student then do not take this class as you will fail.

Professor Menton is very reachable outside class (office hours and email.) - consult him during his office hours and he would be very willing to talk with you about your essay (gives great suggestions, a chance to improve your grade.) I had taken a year off from school and doubted if I was ready for college and he was crucial in my transition back to school. He not only helped me in his class, but took the time to help me with other areas of school that I struggled with!

I would definitely recommend this professor! You will leave the class having learned a lot and feeling prepped. It is clear that Professor Menton cares about the students and will provide very quick, great feedback. My emails were answered all within a few hours. As for the difficulty, I would say somewhere between 3-4, an A isn't too hard.

Professor Menton provides clear instructions and details on how to earn an A in his online ENG 1 course; you just have to take the time to read all the instructions thoroughly. Fantastic teacher as long as you properly engage with him. He really wants to teach in a way that makes the class interesting and accessible to alland I think he achieves that. Read. If you don't you won't be able to engage him and will get called out for it. If you do your work this class might be the best course you'll take in college.

Took prof. Menton last Spring. Challenging and intriguing class. It opened my mind and helped me see English in a new light. Its my second year of college, and among all classes that I took, I feel that this is the class in which I gained the most knowledge from the professor. Time spent in this class is truly valuable. I was not supposed to take this class because I already completed my requirement in highs school. But staying in his class was such a great decision. He is so funny and honest. He will tell you straight up what is going on. He gives amazing feedback. I was not expecting to learn new things and he proved me wrong. I have really excelled bc of him

IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO PUT IN WORK TO EARN AN A DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Getting that out of the way, Menton's personality is what kept me in his class. Super entertaining and grabs your attention. He assigns a lot of reading thankfully their pretty good books. Unless you're talented at writing you NEED to go to his office hours or get tutoring.

This class is not a joke. This is the wrong class to take if you arent willing to put a good amount of effort into it. It is very intense especially during those 6 week sessions; you will spend at least a good 6 or 7 hours to write a good essay. Email Prof Menton whenever you have any questions! Follow ALL directions or you wont like your grade..

Professor MentAL is very upfront, he tells you what he expects from his students and he means it! He tells you to get up and leave if you aren't ready for the workload. We had to write 4 papers, reading journal + discussion each week. I wouldn't recommend him if you're looking for an easy A, other than that he's great and provides good feedback!

If you are serious about learning something useful, this will be the perfect class for you. Professor mentor is very nice and helpful. His class is not easy, there will be a lot of writing and reading, but if you work hard you will get a satisfying grade. He also responds emails right away & explains any question well. Good luck.

Professor Menton actually cares about one's education and preparing them for more complex writing papers. Don't slack. Do the assignments. They're beneficial.

Professor Menton gives very good feedback, and the syllabus is very clear. This class requires a lot of work, especially during a six-week summer session. The amount of work you put into discussions and essays will determine your grade. I spent 10+ hours on each essay and it paid off. Read his feedback and you will improve as a writer.

If you're genuinely interested in improving your ability to write and think at a college level, Professor Menton is for you. This is the English professor you want if you're planning on transferring to a school with higher academic standards. If you're looking for an easy A through low effort, go elsewhere.

I LOVED this class and Prof. Menton was frickin' excellent. I signed up for the 8-week class and there was a lot of reading and course work. Take him as his word when he says it will take you devoting x amount of hours a week. He gives incredibly detailed and helpful feedback and really cares about the success of his students. Professor Menton is an incredible English professor. I am a freshman and I just took his eight-week English 1 course. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take this class. If you want to grow intellectually and as a writer/reader, then take this class. If you want to excel, you need to put in the work. I must say, though, it's totally worth it.

Prof. Menton is tough yet he's also a good teacher. He gives critical yet affirmative feedback. His online class is consistent which is something I like a lot about his class. Put the time and energy in and you will get an A. Overall, a nice experience with him and his class!

Menton is an intelligent and amazing professor! Dont take his class if you are lazy or a slacker! You have to be a serious student who keeps up with deadlines - no late work is accepted. It was a challenge, but Im a better writer now than I was 16 weeks ago! He values structure in a paper and gives the BEST DETAILED & CRITICAL FEEDBACK. Loved it!

If you get a C or under, youre either lazy or incompetent in writing. Hes not anywhere close to being narcissist/manipulative as someone here said. Hes a tough grader and doesnt accept bs excuses for late work. Dont take advice from slackers who blame profs for their laziness. Hes amazing gives good feedback! I would take again no hesitation.

Great professor! Would take his English class again and hope he teaches more levels in the English Department at SMC so I can study with him again. This class is not for the student who wants to phone it in and doesn't apply themselves. For those looking for a great teacher who will give great feedback, challenge you, and assign awesome papers.

He is the best! He wrote a book: Seeing the Elephant which is amazing to understand topics in an entertaining and simple way. The lectures were interesting, challenging, moving. I learned a lot. He makes you think further and he gives you the freedom to write about aspects that you care about. You will learn from the best, study hard! Grade work.

Prof Menton is exceptional! By textbook, I mean 'Seeing the Elephant', which he wrote and it is THE guide for college writing in a clear, concise, humorous manner. I learned more from Professor Menton about academic writing than I did taking graduate level courses. While colleagues describe him as an individualist who doesn't sugar coat his opinions, with his students he is kind as a Buddhist monk--nurturing and respectful, wholly invested in their growth. He's brilliant.

Homework heavy but you'll learn a lot. Lots of reading, writing, and research. Use tutoring and follow instructions to get an A. It was an inspirational, interesting, open-minding class. Very time-consuming, much more than the weekly hours mentioned in corsair. I definitely recommend Prof. Menton if you want to learn a skill.

Prof. Menton was very interested in my education and I felt very comfortable with his teaching. I generally liked the guy even though I have never met him. I felt he was very educated and very fair in his grading. He told you everything upfront about what to expect in the class so there were no surprises. He's definitely there to support you.

If you're able to keep up with lot's of work as well as a couple big papers that you have to write then he is a great choice! Do not take this class if you procrastinate. He gives very specific feedback and definately taught me a lot about how to do well in an English class!

Professor Mentons class is for people who want to work hard. If youre willing to put in 110% you can become a better writer and learn a ton about research papers. Even though the class was fully online, Professor Menton gave excellent feedback. Id rather work hard for a Professor like this than for someone who will just snooze through it all.

Prof. Menton provides substantial amount of resources & information and amazing feedback with assignments & essays. THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS! If you are planning to take this during a short term, get ready to put in WORK or you will fall behind. Def admire his teachings and attention. Also, dont sleep on his book: Seeing the Elephant.

This class was definitely not an easy A, nor a walk in the park. However, this class was very informative and the professor really cares about the academic growth of his students, he provides you with helpful & detailed feedback. My writing has improved so much through this course and I am very thankful I chose professor Menton for my Engl 1 class!

If you want to take your collegiate writing to the next level, this course is for you. It's far from an easy A and you will not do well if you tend to procrastinate. Prof Menton provides great resources/examples and amazing critical feedback. His book "Seeing The Elephant" is informative and inspiring. He's a candid professor with a sense of humor.

Teaching a writing class 100% online can't be easy; Menton ROCKED the assignment. His feedback is incredibly insightful & he is invested in his students' successes. I'm really proud of the work I did in his class. Earning an A isn't rocket science: READ. WRITE. DO THE RESEARCH. WRITE MORE. And, to avoid looking like a Tool, DON'T PLAGIARIZE.

I took the 8-week class so something was due nearly every day. Menton's feedback is very thorough, I recommend reading the feedback after each assignment as he's very clear on what he's looking for. He cares about the students' growth and is very well organized. 10/10

Taking Prof Menton was one of the best decisions I ever made. You will have to work for your grade, but it's very simple and easy, and a week's work can easily be finished in one night. Make sure you read his feedbacks because he only wants the best for you! I feel like I've learned more from this one-semester than from all of my other teachers!

His characteristic is wise old man of the mountain. He has been a pleasure to take, from reading is past students essays or receiving feedback, I am happy I took his class. You will write a lot, and by the end of the semester only a third of the class will remain, but thats life. One of the best skills I received from this class is giving feedback.

Amazing Professor. Truly cares about his students. Dont slack. Dont be superficial in your comments to other students post. Do the work and pay attention to the deadlines and instructions. He is very clear on what he wants so make sure you understand the instructions. Best prof Ive ever taken at SMC. Detailed feedback too.

Took in person before COVID. Professor Menton's class put me on a whole new path that ended up changing my life for the better. He expects a lot, but it makes you a better reader and writer. His feedback is always spot-on. Take this class if you take yourself and your studies seriously. If you don't, maybe take someone else.

Professor Menton was very willing to help you with all your work and although the class definetly requires you put forth effort it's managable. You can get an A pretty easily. Three essays, 15 points of extra credit, and discussion boards make up the grade. He gives good feedback on rough drafts.

I took Professor Menton's 6-week class over the summer. There are only 3 essays to write, but you need to write quite a lot on discussions. Everything is on canvas. He recommends students to purchase a MLA book, but it is not mandatory. READ HIS COMMENTS ON DISCUSSIONS! They are vital to improving your essays.

Professor Menton has been one of the best Professors I've had at SMC. I took him this summer for the 6 week session; although there was a good amount of work (I mean, come on, it's a 16 week course condensed into 6 weeks), as long as you diligently listen to his feed back, do the work with an honest effort, and don't procrastinate too much = A

Prof Menton, is a wise old man with quite the character. He can be intimating to talk to but go to his office hours and gradually it will be less scary. He provides you with lots of clear and precise feedback which is vital in improving your essays. He is the hardest ENGL professor Ive taken, but well worth it.

If you want to learn, he is the best professor I have ever had. If you want an easy A, look somewhere else. He gives the best feedback ever, he truly cares about your learning and he is an amazing teacher. A rare phenomenon these days. But be prepared to work hard.

Professor Menton is amazing. If you're taking English 1 I highly recommend his class. I took the 8-week course. While there was a lot of writing I personally didn't find it overwhelming, in fact I enjoyed the pace of that class over a regular 16-week. My advice for anyone taking this class is stay on track, put in effort and you should be good!

Professor Menton is a great professor! Throughout his course, my vocabulary and writing has improved with the excellent feedback he provides. If you stay on top of your work and review feedback, your bound to get a good grade.

Professor Menton is one of my favorite professors that I have taken in my first semester at SMC. This class was very interesting and I genuinely feel like I learned a lot. He gives very clearly instructions and detailed feedback. I am very happy I took his class despite it being difficult. I would definitely recommend you take Professor Menton!

Wow! I love Prof Menton. I have already taken 2 other english 1 profs and they were awful, never again. But when I found Prof Menton I was fully relived. He allows you to free write about your topic and provides amazing feedback . 100% recommend if you are struggling in English 1 like I was. He was my last chance and he did not fail me

He's the best professor I have ever met. His class isn't that easy but not extremely hard either and you learn a lot about how to write a perfect college paper and about life. He cares about your success and he's super accessible by Zoom and email. He gives you all the tools and more to come out of his class with an A, just do the work.

I would 100% recommend you take professor Menton. I took him for English 1. You have 14 discussions which are easy and you will receive full credit or like 19/20 worst case scenario if you make a little mistake. You'll have 3 essays which are the majority of your grade but you can submit a rough draft and he gives really good and detailed feedback

Menton's ENG1 class is challenging but rewarding. His structured feedback helps improve writing. Though attendance is required, the online format offers flexibility. unstuck AI and the free textbook are great study aids to ace this course.

Class is challenging, but he gives opportunities for extra credit on the first and second essays so take advantage of them! He also gives good feedback on discussion posts and essays. I do wish I would have attended his office hours. Other than that he is a great professor who cares about his students!

Great teacher. Only about 1 assignment per week that's easy. Only once in a while you'll get more. About 3-4 essays for the semester. Gives genuine and very detailed feedback that really helps you to succeed. Can meet outside regular office hours if needed. Provides plenty of resources to help and lets you pick your essay topics.

His grading criteria is very clear and as long as you do the readings and turn things in on time, you should be more than fine in his classroom. If you are docked off points for whatever reason, he tells you clearly why he did that as well as (usually) give you an opportunity to correct it and turn it back in.

As others have written, Professor Menton is a great teacher who genuinely cares about his students. I just finished English one during the spring semester and learned a lot. There are three main essays and a lot of discussion posts weekly. Listen to his feedback and you will do really well on your writing. 100% recommend.

I really enjoyed taking Professor Menton's English 1 class. He was an excellent professor and teacher. He taught me a lot, and I would definitely take another one of his classes. It was a pleasure having him, and he told anyone who would rate him to "warn future students of how much work I assign! I'm trying to scare off the tourists" (Menton).

Professor Menton is an excellent instructor. He provides very detailed feedback on each essay, which is incredibly helpful. While the coursework may seem challenging at first, it is worth the effort. For Essays 1 and 2, he even allows revisions and resubmissions for a higher grade.

I really enjoyed taking Professor Menton's English 2 class (C1001). He was an excellent professor, mentor, and guide. I would definitely take another class with him, and really enjoyed the opportunity of spending the semester with him. Throughout the class there are weekly discussion boards and three key essays. 1,000 percent recommended.
