Really easy teacher. Also had him as a teacher at Chatsworth High. Say and do anything in his class he'll allow it.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! HE IS VERY HARD. HE IS NOT VERY CLEAR WHEN HE TEACHES. WHEN HE IS TEACHING HE GOES FAST SO IT IS HARD TO LEARN CONCEPTS. DOING THE HOMEWORK DOES NOT HELP IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS TEACHING.
I took the summer class and I thought it would be hard since it was only five weeks but he explained everything very well and now I'm going to take his Math 115 class
Awesome
Goes way too fast while teaching, and is not clear about what he's doing even when you're able to keep up. If you ask him to clarify, he will just confuse you even more. The only way to really do well in his class is to teach yourself from the book and do the homework or find someone else to teach you. (Nice to look at though).
VERY COOL TEACHER!!! i had him in chatsworth and he id very cool. i recommend him because he does care about math and also he does confuse you but you can always tell him
Speeds through material to finsih the book. Doesn't take effort to make sure the students understand the material.
Not very helpful and clear, take another teacher if you have a choice. To be clear about my rating, I'm not great at math, but I gave it my best shot and came short by 10 points for a B but got a C.
You can tell he knows the subject, but he has a hard time relating to people that don't. Doesn't explain things clearly to people who aren't predisposed to math already. Only redeeming value - he gives partial credit on test and drops the lowest test score if you don't miss more than 1 class, which makes passing easy. Not an easy A or B though.
This guy is funny, but he gets straight to the point, he explains things i never learned in high school, is not lazy at all, always on time, and is a good teacher, i learned so much with him, hes a challenge but extremely fair.
This teacher is great but sit as close to the front as possible(he speaks kinda low). His method of teaching is clear gives HW but never collects it, grades come 4rm test, which are easy just study the notes cause thats where some questions come from, and they usually consist of only 15-20 prob. I recommend him for those who hate math, he helps
it is the 1st day of class, and so far i love him. his attitude, grading, looks, teaching, everything about him is perfect! he is really a quite talker, so yeah sit as front as you can, but he def. is better than any math teacher i have ever had!
I had to drop this class! Everytime i asked a question all he replied was "we're on a tight schedule, it's in the book." He completely lost me in every class and was no help to the things i really needed. I only recommend that math people take this class. I am no math whiz.
Mr. Moniz is awesome! It was his first time teaching 215 and he has done an amazing job! He's clear, HW is a must for points...tests are fair! He is Hot!!
teacher is horrible. if you ask him a question he treats you like an idiot while answering it. don't take this teacher!
This teacher is terrible. I got an A in 115. He only wants to get through the book. He told us after the second test how bad we did because he mad it tricky. His favorite line is we are on a tight schedule. We have asked him to slow down before and he ignored us. He goes so too fast and won't answer any questions. Do not take him.
He is very clear and direct with lecture. There's no homework. If you just study, you'll get an easy A. Ignore everybody else's reviews because they are probably the lazy ones in the class. You must be slow if you don't pass this class with an A.
The previous comments are fairly accurate. He is constantly in a hurry because of the "tight schedule," but he gives tons of examples. Do the work and show up for class- he penalizes the students for being absent.
He is fast, he is confusing he tells you in great detail, how NOT to do a problem - not very helpful. I am sure he would be a good teacher to Math majors. It is unfortunate he does not take the time to explain concepts clearly, can't wait for the semester to end.
This teacher does not acknowledge raised hands. He goes way too fast in explaning the material and when providing the class with examples problems. I have learned so far has come form sitting at home and going over and over the book and the math exercises in the book. When asked to slow down, he gives you a condensending look and speeds on.
He goes at a very fast pace when teaching the problems so if you can't comprehend on a fast level, don't take the class. Is always on a "tight schedule". You'll know what I mean if you take the class.
3 Tests that are worth 75 points and the final is doubleweight...the teacher doesn't write the final...the school does and it was very very very hard (honestly)take this class unless you committed to math. There's no HW but I wish there was because the teacher never gave out review problems.
very easy..gives credit even for wrong answers.. as long as the math is write ur good..no reason to get lower than a C
Wastes time explaining things that you should already know or are not necessary. Spent 2-3 weeks each in the beginning of the semester on the easy chapters, and 1 week each later on the hard chapters. Gave us the final 1 week early so he could go on vacation, which gave us less time to study. I had to teach myself everything from the book.
He is not a good teacher or a good person he does not stay on topic he does not review the chapters before test he dose not answer questions he is very confusing and he has an i dont care if you get it or not attitude do not take him period if you need this class or not take your chances either online or just wait for another teacher
Attendance is mandatory if you want your Final grade to replace a bad test. But, he will keep you a couple minutes after class while he calls roll. Be prepared to stay for the entire class, he does not believe in leaving early. He does not provide office hours, nor does he show up before class to answer questions. He never goes over the homework, s
Horrible Teacher! Poor at everything he teaches, and he continuously ramble on about personal matters that does not associates with math whatsoever. If you're looking for a math professor, this is not the one for you, keep looking!!!
He provides a lot of examples. There are those very rare times that he has to rush, but you will learn what he rushed past in the textbook. The textbook he uses is good. Do the homework and study and I guarantee you will get an A in his class. By the way, he does not collect homework.
I got an A in trig, but it was because I taught the course to myself. On the one or two occasions when I relied on the lecture, it was incomprehensible. Moniz knows trig and seems like a pretty nice guy in everyday life. But he is a poor lecturer, is indifferent to student questions, and does not even review his tests with the class.
One of the worse instructors I have ever experianced. Not helpful at all, all lectures are only the textbook examples. He rushes through the section because he is more concerned with finishing the text early than the students actual understanding of the material. Homework and tests are NEVER reviewed and attendance is recorded every lecture, unl
Very face paced class. Your grade depends entirely on tests. Nice guy but does have a bit of a blunt/arrogant side in regards to certain questions on the text.
He basically goes over all the examples in the book, chapter by chapter. He allows cheat sheets for all tests, including the final. And he drops the lowest test grade if you haven't missed more than one class. As long as you pay attention and comprehend trig (which is already simple) you'll be fine!
One of the worse instructors I have ever experianced. Not helpful at all, all lectures are only the textbook examples. He rushes through the section because he is more concerned with finishing the text early than the students understanding of the material. Homework is never reviewed.
Lots of attitude, kind of rude sometimes. Mandatory attendance, useless syllabus - must be in class to hear everything. Good teacher, very understandable, effective teaching methods, explains concepts very coherently. Great book, easy for self-teaching when needed.
Best 240 Teacher. Allows Cheat Sheet which Helps ALOT. 5 Tests, non dropped, but replaces lowest with the grade you get on Cumulative Final, which is EASY. Third Test is difficult so study for that one. No extra Credit but 88% is an A. You must attend Class. Take him! Hes Easier then his rating suggest!
Did not go over homework or tests. He goes really fast is class. Attendance mandatory to get one test grade replaced with the final grade. He is kind of arrogant and rude to the students.
He goes fast and off on a lot of tangents, but does his best to answer questions. I only go to class to stare at him lol good looking and his weird/quirky/geeky math personality makes him even hotter, I think.
he is one of the worst professor I've ever seen in my life, he goes too fast and doesn't care about the students. don't ever take any class with Moniz
Horrible Professor, I gave it my all and still didnt get a passing grade! Goes way too fast and doesnt like to listen to questions. Emailed him asking for test material breakdown and said "I can't help you with that." Avoid this professor at all costs.
Easy to understand, but you must show up and do the homework in order to keep up otherwise you'll be lost. But he explains stuff so you can understand it which is important for math, hard to find at Pierce. He is slightly arrogant but sometimes funny. Mandatory attendance, like 4 tests I think. Drops lowest one if you're never absent.
Super cool guy. Just attend all class session, ask questions so he can get to know you. Explains everything and his exams are fair. His exams are like his examples and homework problems. I would recommend him :)
Do NOT take this professor. He is not helpful at all. He spends most of the lesson explaining things that you won't need for the tests and he doesn't stop to see if everyone is understanding it; he just wants to finish his lesson for the day.
Nobody ever explain math to me so well. I feel different about math after his class. Highly recommended!
Love this professor. Take him. He is real helpful, I had never understood Math until I took him. He cares about his students that he ensures that everyone passes the MET exam. Had taken math before at Pierce, but failed. Took him and got an A.
Moniz is a great teacher. He does all the class work from textbook. Homework is optional. He goes fast at times but he asks the class if they understand. Attendance is mandatory if you don't show up he expects an email explaining why you will miss. He has a good sense of humor and is easy to talk to. I recommend his class.
He does not teach the class effectively. He doesn't explain formulas, has no patience, and tries to make you feel stupid for asking a question at times. I learned more from instructors at a workshop prep for the final than I did the entire time in his class. If you take his class expect to teach yourself if you want to pass. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
This Professor is absolutely TERRIBLE! He doesn't care about the students learning the material. He goes off on awful tangents that take up class time. He is rude and arrogant and no help at all. If you can teach yourself, go for it. But if you really need to learn and pass just find another professor or this will be a major waste of time.
Moniz is a great teacher, and very easy if you do the work. He assigns homework, but he doesn't collect them for grades, and he goes over the homework if you have any questions. He gives out 4 test during the semester, and he takes the questions from the book (chapter test). I wish he teaches other match classes courses.
The best math teacher I’ve ever had. He explains the material very well, and teaches you short cuts on how to solve the problem. He’s nice, easy to talk to, understanding, and has a good sense of humor. The only reason I got a B is because I didn’t study for two tests out of the four. If you study it’s an easy A.
Attend to learn the material. Do the homework to prepare for the test (4 total). Ask questions if you get stumped on a particular homework question. Learn from it. Pass the test. Do the homework because test questions are randomly chosen from homework assignments.
Mr. Moniz is very nice and he takes his time to explain everything, if you pay attention to what he says you have no problem, just read he book before going to the class, don't buy the book just print the material and pay online for the access code, I wish he would teach the second part of the class but he does not.
He is a great math teacher but moves too fast due to all of the material that has to be taught. He does show you shortcuts to solve problems faster and really tries to prepare his students for the MET. The tests can be difficult and he does not collect homework. STUDY!!
Extremely caring and hard working. He makes sure you will understand the material. He is a good professor and good at what he does. Participation matters in his class. He is there for you when you need his help.
I took him for Trig & Algebra 2. He does a great job at explaining the material and will legitimately stop the lecture and ask if he is moving to fast. He talks to the students to determine when they feel the next test should be. I wouldn't say he "cares about this students" but he goes out of his way to make sure you pass. Study and you will pass
Would teach pass class time. No very helpful.
Honestly best teacher. Keeps a lightened mood and always clarifies his lectures. Drops the lowest test scores, and the final is made up of a mixture of questions he previously gave on tests. I never purchased or used the book at all and I passed with an A. Also allows a page of notes for each test.
He is pretty clear when it comes to the expectations of the class. The tests were pretty easy and he drops the lowest score. He's also willing to help if you ask for it. I would def take him again.
I suck at math. But Moniz was amazing. He really clarifies everything and is super helpful. As long as you attend class and don't miss more than two, he'll drop your lowest score. As long as you attend lecture and study, you'll pass. He's super friendly and approachable and genuinely doesn't want to hold any students back.
The unique thing about Moniz's class is that he uses a very straight forward texbook, explains briefly and does many examples. He does not collect homeworks. The test questions are easier than the homework questions. Very friendly and funny character. I reccomemd him. Just dontmiss any lecture, practice and you will do fine.
Summer class fast paced! Teacher Reviews your work on tests, so if you get 8/10 or 9/10 on scantron he looks at your work and marks additional problems wrong so result is 4-5/10. :( some studetns 2-3/10. Make sure you understood the problem instead of accidently of getting the right answer by process of elimination or luck. Got a D gained knowledge
Yes, he subtracts additional points off the scantrons because work wasnt shown on a problem. It's only a 10-question test. A couple problems can be the difference between a pass or a fail, and you shouldn't pass bcuz you're a good guesser. Will damage you in future classes. Loved this teacher, loved this class. He's always available to help!
He uses straight forward textbook. Very helpful and explains everything with many examples to make sure you understand it. I would take him again.
Prof Moniz is a great guy that knows math very well. Was always there for me if I needed extra help. Don't take this class expecting to be spoon fed because his style is unorthodox. Get ready to understand all the concepts and not just remember how to solve problems since thats what he tests. Was quite difficult but my math skills have improved.
Professor Moniz math class requires you not to miss any days , if you show up to all the classes you will pass because he will prepare you to pass the MET with no problem, if you don't understand something just ask him and he will help you until you do. math is not easy but don't give up , you will not regret it.
He is a great professor. Hes tough but very helpful if you ask nicely. He doesnt collect homework, but he expects you to do it. (Do the homework.) He really helps you prepare for the MET final.
One of the finest Trigonometry professor. He explains things well, He is caring, understanding, and he genuinely cares for his students. He comes in early, and spend extra time with his student, so they can understand Mathematics. Great professor.
Prof. Moniz, Is a wonderful Prof. Took him during summer, fast pace. His explanations are very clear, and will not continue until you understand. Very well organized. I know I would have done better if I had taken him during a regular 15-16 week course. Take his class. you will learn.
if you are bad at math, TAKE HIM! Took him over the summer and still passed
hes the best teacher
I took this class for Statistics (ugh) A lot of your grade depends on your outside studying. Classes are fast-paced. No graded HW (DO THE HW), just tests. Grades on a pretty generous curve in the end. He's pretty hilarious and I know participation matters in this class because he will notice it and see you trying and that's important. Thanks prof!
I can understand why people like him, sassy but assertive. I felt uncomfortable asking questions because of his intensity. He seems to get upset and has low tolerance for people. Some might enjoy this class but I wouldn't recommend this professor if you need a more calm and compassionate professor to feel comfortable.
I took professor Moniz in the fall and he seemed like he didnt want to be there. Maybe it's the heat? He rides a bike and he seems much better when it's cool outside. Catch him in a good mood and hes funny. He talks fast. He asks people to ask questions, but makes you feel stupid when you do. I wouldnt recommend this class to any beginners.
Lectures are fast and at times hard to decipher. It's hard to ask questions because if you do, he makes you feel stupid in front of the whole class. It's a book heavy course but its hard when you have question but are afraid to ask due to the teachers "I'm smarter than you" egotistical way of speaking.
He is very disorganized with his lectures. Jumps from analogy to another analogy. I dont know how he has good ratings on here. I seriously did not learn anything concrete in this class because he doesnt explain well. No study guide given. Final is not multiple choice. If math is not your strong subject dont take him. You have to teach yourself.
Overall I had a negative experience in this class and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Homework is ungraded, you only get 4 tests (4 chances) to make the grade. The majority of the class failed the tests, and he never passed them back so we could target our study. Overall, he made things unnecessarily difficult. Take another professor.
He knows what he's talking about and he's really good at math, but he's not helpful when it comes to you and your math. Homework is optional, and there are only three tests and the final, which a majority of the class failed. He sent an email out afterward in disbelief how so many failed. He knows the material, he just doesn't know how to teach it.
Professor Moniz is one of the greatest math professors which I ever had at Pierce College. I recommend taking his classes for everyone who wants to succeed in math. Trust me you wouldn't regret it.
Ok, let me spill the tea and tell you that there is not HW in his class. He won't grade HW and he only counts quizzes and exams which are difficult because he does not provide any type of extra credit or notes. There are better professors out there.
I took Professor Moniz online and he was very difficult to work with as a class. He was evidently misogynistic and had a lot of breakout rooms. The homework is not mandatory, it's only for extra practice. Personally did not have the best time with his teaching style. However, he did round final grades and drops some bad test grades.
Dude's a great guy, ask and he will explain thoroughly. If you do garbage on the tests in class just get an A on the final and he'll give you an A in the class. Actual Homie
There needs to be more professors like Moniz. I really enjoyed my time in his class first time ever in a math class where I didn't fall asleep. He explains everything throughly and is there to help you with any questions. You need to show up if you want to pass. Obvi math is hard but Moniz does make it easier to understand it.
Not bad
Give students a fair chance to succeed
I was skeptical because of his rating here, but so glad I took this course. He's caring, as in he wants you to succeed, he's not here to hold you back from moving to your next math venture. He is open to questions and lets it be known that he's accessible during the class. His current rating doesn't reflect his class, I encourage you to take him!
Bad experience! this professor hurt my feelings.
Professor Moniz is a great guy and cares about how you are doing in the class, you just need to reach out when you need help during office hours. The syllabus is very clear and gives a clear idea of what he expects (attendance, participation, homework, etc). Mr. Moniz also rambles a lot, so some self studying will be required in his online class.
I took this as a dual enrollment class, so maybe he's different at Pierce. At the beginning of the semester, he taught okay and was pretty focused. However, as time passed, I think I learned more about his opinions on random topics from his tagents than actual math. I would avoid this professor if you actually want to learn and do well on exams.
Kevin wasn't that bad of a teacher, although he often gets caught up in trying to make jokes not suitable for a classroom. Leading to him losing time on teaching and making himself seems like an unprepared teacher. He also gets a bit weird around some kids, thinking he is friends or closer with them then other students.
