He is very arrogant!!!! but is a good teacher, and seems genuine. Look out for sarcasm!!
One of the best teachers on campus. Cares about his students. Knows a lot and is always willing to help you with any questions, even on his own time aoutside of class. Take this class.
Gives a lot of work. Doesn't cover homework in class. Doesn't prepare students for tests or guizes. I could learn more from an internet class. He just gives work. Students either sink or swim.
Great professor! He knows what he is talking about (has lots of work experience). His quizzes were tough but if you get access they aren't bad at all. Always taught us something about the gospel each day! Loved it!
I took this guy on a summer block and I busted my balls to get a C. There was way too much work for the time available and sometimes he didn't seem to care. He is a great lecturer though. Take him if you are an accounting major or if you are sure you can handle the load.
spends 10 min of class time everyday teaching a gospel topic and when you add it all up it comes to about a week that he wastes on teaching the gospel rather than the class he is assigned to teach!! Doesnt prepare you for what is on his quizes and test which by the way are really tricky! Take someone ELSE!!!!
WOW he's hard but WOW he's good. I worked my tail end off and got a B- in the class but I came away with a firm knowledge of accounting. If you are an accounting major or really want to learn the fundamentals of accounting. TAKE BROTHER PACKARD!!!! His gospel topics were long at times but I really loved them!!
Very good professor! If you have an interest in accounting, Bro Packard is for you. He is very knowledgeable and teaches clearly. Very good person too. I was nervous about the daily gospel topic, but it turned out to be good. I liked it a lot. I'd take any class he teaches.
He's an amazing teacher. He's very helpful if you are struggling. He knows what he is talking about and wants you to succeed. Definitely take him.
The best accounting class this school offers, ive taken everyone, taught by the best accounting professor at the school. Cant go wrong taking this course.
Amazing. He does such a good job teaching such a difficult class. A must take class
He teaches well, but you will still need to atlessed skim the book as you go. He gave us quiz access' to study with and has diffecalt, but opean book quizes on every chapter. Tests are not to bad.
Okay teacher overall and if you do what he tells you to you can get a good grade, oh, and don't miss class and do your reading, it's all that simple. I learned some new things and some deep concepts that were interesting. Not always very personal with his students, takes awhile for him to get to know your name if he even ever learns it.
I had him as a religion teacher, his quizes are a bit unfair, along with the final is full of unclear questions. As a teacher he his very passionate about the gosple but he really like to concentrate too much on symbolisums. Personality wise he is a very caring person.
Buckle your seat belts Acctg majors you're about to enter Acctg hell. The material in the class is tough, their is no easy way around differed taxes. As for Bro. Packard... His strengths: Very knowledgeable, lectures well s: 30-45 minute spiritual thoughts(thats half of class) presents material way too fast, intimidating, arrogant, spora
Bro. Packard is a great teacher to have on campus. He sometimes can skip over your comments and questions. But he is good. As a member of the church I would say to please think twice before you accept as truth all he says about the gospel in his spiritual presentations. The ideas are logical and thoughtful but that doesn't mean that they are true.
Packard is your only choice for 302 so you can't avoid the hardest rated class at BYU-I. He got a C in the class when he took it and because he is a genuis you better be one to do well in this class. He is prideful about being humble i.e. he love to brag that he got his BMW used and that he hasn't had a mortgage on his house for several years.
Best teacher for 201, very intelligent. He expects you to do the work and ask intelligent questions, when he sees that you are trying he can be very helpful and caring. Very good 5-10 mins spiritual thoughts. One of the best.
I had him for the 1st half of Book of Mormon. He's an amazing teacher. His knowledge of the scriptures is incredible. He's very clear in his thoughts and ideas, and he has some pretty interesting & thought-inspiring interpretations. As long as you do the assigned work, you should be fine. The assignments are self-explanatory and not too difficult.
Great teacher you will learn a lot, one of the best around.
Let's not confuse how difficult the subject matter is, with how good or bad his teaching style is. Most people who rate Bro. Packard harshly do so because they think the material is too hard, that's not his fault. Study people! He basically condenses 6-8 hours of reading into a few class periods, that to me, is a great teacher.
Brother Packard is very spiritual and always helping us to understand the scriptures. He answers all your questions that you have. A++++
Brother Packard is an amazing teacher. He always begins with a spiritual thought, and his insights are great. He explains the concepts of accounting very clearly.
I would strongly recommend Bro. Patterson over Bro. Packard. His class always has a higher test average and they don't have near as much homework. Bro. Packard prides himself in being sophisticated, he wouldn't tell us our test averages a couple times because they were so low. He said we needed to read more. Spiritual insights never touched me.
He is SOOOOOO BORING! he will put you to sleep in a second. He will confuse the crap out of you and make you second guess you on almost everything you know. He is very smart but does not answer questions well at all. He just beats around the bush and says look it up. He does not like to answer questions either. Reall boring and unfair assignments o
While Bro. Packard does teach in monotone, if you stay awake and pay attention, his teachings are absolutely profound! I have learned so much from this class, and things I have never given second thought have made so much more sense. I wouldn't recommend this class for people who don't like deep doctrine, though. But I loved it!!
I took the online class and he's pretty nice as far as raising your grade in the end to make up for all the computer gliches--which is very nice of him. There is TONS of work...TONS. The final is supposed to be comprehensive but it's based mostly on the last chapter so beware. I enjoyed the class-but WAY too much busy work.
Very talented teacher. He inspires interest in the topics he teaches and has a genuine concern for his students. He has been one of my favorite professors, and the material he taught has been useful professionally.
Bro. Packard has more credibility to teach the subject of accounting than anyone else, after working for some prestigious accounting firms and becoming a CFO himself. However, he goes really fast through chapters, which makes it very burdensome to grasp the material. He expects a lot, but teaches you a lot. His 10 min spiritual thoughts are great
Brother Packard's class was incredibly informing. If I could stay awake at 7:45, I learned tons. His ILearn assignments and tests are a little stressful, but do the discussion board early and you'll be fine. And just buy a new Book of Mormon for notes. you'll need it.
Brother Packard is an amazing teacher. I hated accounting before I took his class and ended up loving it. He is very helpful if you need help out of class. He has a ton of experience in accounting. I love his spiritual thoughts before class as well.
He is a great professor, after taking his class my life has changed! I would take another class from him any opportunity I had!Thank you!
I didn't like his proud attitude. It rubbed me the wrong way. I should've taken a hint when literally 3/4 of the class dropped by the end of the semester. Difficult subject + difficult teacher = nightmare. Unfortunately, he's the only one that teaches the class.
He is an extremely difficult teacher, he claims the class material is difficult and not him but he makes things so unnecessarily hard its ridiculous. His tests are almost impossible you should only take this class if you are taking an extremely light load that semester.
He is a terrible teacher; he makes the class way too hard and then uses the excuse that the class is hard. A class is only as hard as the professor makes it. You almost need a foreign dictionary to understand his wording and he wants people to suffer in his class. Watch out for his spiritual thoughts; they are sometimes not doctrinal or irrelevant.
It is a challenging class but he does a good job teaching it. It's an upper level university course so don't expect to be handed a good grade without putting in the work. You have to work hard. I enjoyed the class and I liked his teaching style.
Very hard class. His explanations in class are clear, but he goes very fast. Hard subject matter, but the organization of the class makes it more difficult. If you see him in his office he doesn't spoon feed you, but tells you where to go for the necessary information. Overall a very good teacher, but dang hard!
This is a difficult class because there are 8 chapters in a 14 week time block. Bro Packard has to go quickly for that reason. His assignments are very helpful and modeled after the exams. If you put in the work--a lot of it on your own--and come to class prepared, it is a very manageable class.
I had Brother Packard for Book of Mormon 121. This class was a little difficult, but I loved it! I learned SO much! Brother Packard is seriously one of the most intelligent men I know. His lessons always blew me away. Just pay attention, ask questions, and be willing to work and you'll love the class!
Man what a hard class! but it is supposed to be. Great great teacher. I have nothing but good things to say about Packard, but man..Accounting is hard, but do your best and hopefully the grace of God will do the rest!
I thought he was great! It was a hard class but thanks to him I did pretty well. He was a great teacher. His class was easy to understand and his teaching was very helpful.
Great spiritual lessons for the first 15 minutes or so. Has lots of accounting knowledge from the real world. Good teacher but he randomly calls on people and that's the only thing I didn't.
He doesn't always teach what we need to know for the test and will go off on something else related, but not necessary for the class. He expects us to teach ourselves a lot of the material. I like to be taught by the teacher which is why I took the class. His spiritual thoughts are 15min, and too long when I would rather be taught accounting
Just realize going to class does not prepare you for the test. You have to do all of that because the examples he gives in class are too complicated to be relevant. Also, do well on the first 4 tests and the rest is a piece of cake. The beginning is not the time to slack off.
hard class, but packard is the man! Wonderful in class lecture, teaches it well, his spiritual thoughts always are amazing. We are lucky to have him in the department.
Im in my last semester and this is easily one of the hardest classes Ive taken, its totally doable though! His spiritual thoughts are a great way to start class and get the brain going. Complainers are just mad that they couldnt cut it. Cant fault Bro Packard though, he does a lot to help students see real world application for text book questions.
This is a very difficult class and you MUST put the time in to get a decent grade. Find study buddies & read the chapters prior to class lectures. Bro Packard doesn't answer stupid questions, so make sure you're prepared. He gives insightful spiritual thoughts every day. He's great. Class is hard. Just don't underestimate the time it will take you.
This professor was the worst I've had in my two years at this college. He was rude when questions were asked, and some of the doctrine he taught was questionable on its accuracy with church standings. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.
He covers material way too fast. has alot of knowledge, but doesn't teach with clarity or effectiveness(no power points, no notes, just in class, cuts corners/uses analogies that aren't helpful). felt like i taught myself accounting-we are 4 chapters and a full test ahead of other accounting class. does not reveiew tests, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
I love this teacher! He is extremely smart and I love his class! All the people who are complaining didn't understand the material. He really helped me, and his spiritual thoughts are amazing.
If you take his class you better sit in the first few rows because he talks really soft in order to be more spiritual and is mono tone. We hardly made mention of the Book of Mormon in this class even though that's what the course was about. Instead major emphasis was put on Isaiah and the old testament.
Great class, challenging but doable. I really enjoy this class.
He's your only choice so suck it up. He's awesome, if you need help find study buddies and a group, if not enough utilize his office hours. If you skip class it's your fault, CAN NOT skip class. I went to both sections sometimes. Do all readings before due date, and know quiz access and quiz back and forth!
Very difficult class. Doable if you are on point from the get go. Unless you're crazy smart the only way you pass is if you stay ahead, work in groups, and know the quiz stuff. He goes over CH problems in class well, but the tests and quizzes are often nothing like the class stuff. He prides himself on makin things very dificult so be prepared.
Great Professor! He doesn't talk loud so I would recommend sitting in the front of the class. Keep up on your reading and use the tutors provided and you should do great in his class. Don't read and expect a poor grade. He has awesome real work experience.
Hardest teacher I have ever had!!! Broke my back for the lowest grade I have ever got in my life!!! Quiet, sarcastic, doesn't go over homework nor tests and quizzes. You are forced to learn alone and he doesn't like students working in groups. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Packard is an amazing teacher. I feel he is indispensable for the accounting department because of his experience and grasp on the material. Most of the negative reviews previously are more likely than not from business majors..
Hard Class but enjoyed it. Make sure you pick a good group the first day because you'll rely on them a bunch. Reading wasn't very helpful but if you go to class and keep up it's doable. Get familiar with excel before because you make a bunch of spreadsheets and he's really fast on excel. Over all it was a good class
I absolutely love Brother Packard. Not sure why there have been so many negative comments! The Book of Mormon IS the Old Testament, that's why he covers it in so much depth. Love his insights, he's very fair in grading quizzes and tests and he knows his stuff! I'd take him again if I could.
Bro Packard is very sincere, but not that great of a teacher. I had no motivation to attend. He has experience, but that doesn't mean he can teach others well. And his "spiritual" thoughts were questionable with the teachings of the church. Doesnt cover the material... If you want to teach yourself accounting, take it from him
Direct quote "playing angry birds on your phone during class directly leads to inappropriate material use"
Brother Packard is a great teacher and he expects the absolute best from his students. His teaching style is difficult, but effective if you don't have an attitude of entitlement or expect him to hold your hand all the time. The material, homework, and exams are difficult, but you will know your stuff when you are done.
Nice teacher, but his teaching style stinks. Not willing to help students understand the material.
Wow what a ridiculously hard class that shouldn't be that hard and the only reason it is like that is because of the poor teaching. I have taken way more complex classes that were easier because the teacher knew how to teach. Packard does not teach well at all. Makes you feel dumb...
Stay away if you can. Speaks too quietly and won't clearly answer questions.
Knows accounting very well. Teaches very poorly. Assumes and expects a ton. Talks too quiet. Expect hw to take 4 hours and it graded even if you are lost. Class is spent doing 1 or 2 problems. Spends 15 mins on his spiritual thought which can be good, but bad when you're lost in acct and need precious time. Sarcastic. Makes you feel stupid.my gpa3.9
It was a bit difficult at the beginning of the semester to adjust to his teaching style, but by the end of the semester I loved this class. <3
Brother Packard is indispensable to the accounting department. His class is difficult and requires a lot of time, but that's just the way it has to be in accounting. If he sees you have a sincere desire to learn concepts, and not get free quiz answers, he is very helpful. If more professors were like Packard our University would be more reputable.
Knows a lot about accounting. He is difficult to get used to, but if you work hard in his class you will know accounting very well. He is open to asking questions, you might need to ask several different ways to fully understand it but that is accounting in general.
Such a great professor! He teaches the material and really makes you learn it. Great structure to the class-no pointless busy work. Everything in this class is a good use of time, unlike other classes I've taken. He cares about his students and also has great spiritual thoughts in every class. Teaches accounting as well as great life lessons.
Brother Packard is one of the most phenomenal teachers that we have on campus, if not the best. He will never give you a grade that you do not deserve. The class is a difficult one, but very doable if you are not lazy. He is very helpful, but if you go to him without doing work yourself, he will see right through it. Best acctg class I have taken.
This is a Book of Mormon class and all bro packard would talk about was the Abrahamic covenant. He would say things like, "Playing games such as Mario Kart and Donkey Kong will lead you straight to viewing inappropriate material" and "Every young man in this room is worse then Alma the Younger ever was!" Horrible teacher.
He is the Best Teacher ever. Love the way how he teaches, you understand it and he is so helpful. Whoever says that Brother Packard is not a good teacher should be ashamed. He is an Exceptional Teacher, The Best. Yes his classes are hard because the material is hard and if you dont put effort on the class, you would get a bad grade.
He's a great professor! His talks and advice have been invaluable professionally and spiritually. If you ever want to hear a truly inspiring story, ask him about the daughter who refused to talk to her father... the Spirit was SO strong.
Brother Packard means well and is nice. But his class is WAY harder than it should be and he is very unclear. There is hardly any discussion because he talks the entire time, and he is very ambiguous and confusing. The homework is hard. Don't take this unless you have a DEEP understanding of the Book of Mormon beforehand. Not recommended.
Whatever you do...DO NOT take his religion class. He does not help out his students. He jumps around and is SUPER confusing. I was really looking forward to my Book of Mormon class, but I haven't gotten anything out of it. He talks about symbolism the whole time and it's hard to keep up with everything.
Brother Packard is completely unhelpful. I was so excited to take this class, but most of the class' content was lost in poor rhetoric. :(
We hardly even talk about the Book of Mormon. Talks about deep doctrine and a lot of deep analysis and history of the old testament. Not really spiritually uplifting, this class did not strengthen my testimony on the scriptures at all
I admit Brother Packard has a strong personality, but at his core he really cares. I didn't lik him at first, but when we talked one on one and he told me his parable of the daughter who wouldn't speak to her father, my respect for him rose tremendously :)
The man is off his rocker. Time to retire early. If you want to hear sermons EVERY class, take ANY of his classes. He is out to get his students too, be ready for the suspicious eye to look over your work for any error. Too bad no other acctg professors teach his courses. Good luck enduring his ever-watchful eye.
DO NOT TAKE CLASSES FROM HIM! I took his acct 201 class and he royally screwed me over. He changes his mind about how to submit assignments and if you do it wrong he is unwilling to work with you. Also, don't take any advice from him. He tried telling me that an "f" would be wiser than a "w"...absolutely the lousiest teacher I've ever met.
This man should never be allowed to teach anything but religion. When you take his accounting classes he makes everything as confusing and complicated as possible. He always says the material is hard and that is when things are complicated. It is not the material it is him. He makes life horrible for his students and says it should be easy.
He makes everything too hard. He thinks this is the only class his students have. He knows his accounting concepts though. Although it seems like he wants us to be at his level after only a few years of taking classes.
not a very good teacher - always makes everything so complicated - take the class from someone else
Nice guy. Not a very good teacher.
Bro. Packard is a great teacher. He pushes the class to learn the material but it is very rewarding when you reach the end of the semester. I am very happy I took this class. He was always willing to help me understand the material. This was my hardest class but one of my favorites. I would take as many classes as possible from him.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He makes everything complicated and hard and it isn't worth it. Book of Mormon should be fun and should help your testimony grow, however that's not the case with him. He shouldn't teach at all.
He just does example problems every day in class, and goes way too quickly to even be helpful. I had no other choice but to just zone out and blindly copy the example down. Also, he has you write a formal audit paper that has to do with a chapter you won't start until later in the semester and then proceeds to rip apart your paper
I feel bad for Brother Packard reading these comments but he really is not a good teacher. The material may be difficult but he goes out of his way to make the class harder than it needs to be.
This teacher just wants to be the next General Authority. He purposefully made the material harder than it was. I retook this class from another teach and it was so much more clear from the other teacher. He really just tries to make this material hard.
Brother Packard's book of Mormon class was very hard to understand and his ideas about the scripture was nothing I had ever heard of before. He's not a good teacher. He is a very nice man! And he did tell some very spiritual stories.
Brother Packard is a wonderful teacher. He has a real passion for what he teaches, on top of that he has had real world experience with it. So that's even better! As long as you are willing to put out the effort in the class, then you wouldn't be like the other people who complain about him. You will learn a lot from him.
He is a great guy, one of my favorite teacher, but the class is terrible, You can only get help from your group, and not enough time to ask question or really understand the material. The test are hard you really have to know the material, he has favorite students. BE READY FOR A HARD CLASS!
Great teacher, knows his stuff. This is a hard class, but that is due to the content. It is tough, but he is fair. Go to class and take lots of notes.
Advanced accounting doesn't sound easy, but the quality of Packard is why the class was packed. Highly recommended, but don't expect an easy course.
Brother Packard was extremely difficult. His tests were vague and when you asked questions about them later he was not willing to discuss them. We opened the Book of Mormon twice in the whole semester (in a BOM class). This class was basically Old Testament but 100% harder. Do not take a religion class with him. He's not worth the tears.
Great class. lots of life advice. take time to figure out and memorize the models and terms and equations
Great man who has a profound knowledge of the gospel. The benefit of BYU-Idaho is that gospel principles can be tied into everything, which is great. Would definitely take another class from him.
Brother Packard is a great teacher for Book of Mormon. He knows the scriptures so well and patterns all of his discussions after them. He wants his students to understand the gospel and does so with very little homework and tests.
I loved Brother Packard. He knows so much about the scriptures and as long as you ask questions and let him know when you need help with something, he's always there to help. He respects those who show up and try. It's a tough class, but isn't so bad if you study and work for it.
Bro. Packard might be a very difficult teacher but he does a great job teaching. His spiritual thoughts before class are a great way to set the mood. He definitely knows what he is talking about. He has a lot of accounting experience outside of little Rexburg.
This was a tough class, but that probably has something to do with my falling asleep most of the time. He has a pretty soothing voice, so a word to the wise: don't take him in the morning. Don't do it. Even if you think you can, don't. He teaches by topic, so there's no lesson plan. It sounds cool in theory, but it's confusing. Cool class though.
Brother Packard is very specific in how he teaches. Do not waste time overthinking. He simplifies it enough, do not make it complicated. Do the homework and know the material and keep up to date and you will do fine. Read your scriptures and pray. The Lord will help you!!! He is awesome.
There are no tests but the quizzes are super hard and usually have nothing to do with the class discussion or the Book of Mormon in general. There wasn't really any structure to the class, and he spent a lot of time studying the works outside of the Book of Mormon. Sometimes he is really funny and is super passionate about the church.
It's a pretty tough course all around, but Brother Packard really is a great teacher. He shares epic spiritual thoughts at the beginning of class that are super deep doctrine. Funny, willing to answer questions, gives extra credit, the homework will take you forever, but that's for every class. Hard, but awesome!
Brother Packard is the most intelligent professor I've ever had. He has a sound understanding of any accounting question I've asked him. He might come across as a little intimidating but don't be afraid to ask questions. He offers quite a bit of extra credit which helps a lot. Requires a lot of studying but if you do the homework, you will be okay.
After finishing grad school, I can honestly say that ACCT 302 with Brother Packard was the most challenging course I took as a student. The material itself is difficult, yet at the same time, it's not impossible to learn. It really just takes a lot of effort and a willingness to be actively engaged during class. Highly recommended.
Brother Packard has good knowledge of the gospel. He requires reading the scriptures. Rread your scriptures and show up in class, you will get an A. I got a lot of good insights from his class.
I took his BOM class, but you usually read from the old Testament. He loves making connections through the scriptures and he doesn't always make sense. I didn't agree with all that he had to say. He plays, "guess whats in my head". But he did have a few inspirational lectures. He will meet you out of class. Good guy, but I would not take him again.
I think Brother Packard is the man. He cares about students and is extremely knowledgeable. He's willing to meet outside of class. He's also really good at showing you what to do in excel. He gives amazing thoughts before lectures.
I've taken Brother Packard for Accounting 201 and 302, and I'm going to take him again for Accounting 403. He is by far the best Accounting professor in the program. He gets a bad rep because he teaches the hardest classes, but he teaches the material extremely well.
Brother Packard is a very nice professor. Sometimes people misunderstand him because he teaches the classes that can be more difficult and time consuming, but he is always willing to help a student achieve success if they are willing to do their part. If you do not understand a topic go to him and ask him for help. He really will help you!
Bro. Packard is awesome. He knows his stuff. He will repeatedly tell you over and over different facts that will be on the exams. The class itself is super hard. Any bad reviews are because they don't put the effort in. This is my 2nd time in this class, 1st with him, and I'm passing. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS, NOT JUST THE MATH. Read pwrpnt
Bro. Packard is a really nice guy! Seriously, he has this dry humor and he sometimes makes class interesting, but overall this is not a class I will want someone who is not familiar with accounting taking. He is not very clear on his explanations, he speaks too fast, he writes too fast on the board, and lastly he does not answer questions very well
Brother Packard is a wonderful professor. He truly puts the needs of his students first and has helped me numerous times. He is accessible outside of class and will help you until you understand. Many people say he is a hard professor, but I would have to correct them by saying that Accounting is a hard major. Put the time and motivation in!
He was unwilling to help me throughout this class. I STRONGLY encourage you to NEVER take an accounting class from him. Here are the facts: 1. He never was willing to meet with me. 2. Never takes responsibility for his lack of teaching and comprehension skills. 3. Very arrogant and rude to students. 4. Would rather fail than pass you. BAD!
Brother Packard is incredibly dedicated to teaching well and developing us into good accountants. He also has incredible life experience to teach his student's from.
Brother Packard is a great professor. He is one of the nicest professors I have had here at BYU-I. He is a professor who cares about his students. He is a genuine guy. just a hard class all around, a lot of reading. It just takes time to understand it.
He was an instructor who made learning extremely difficult.
Brother Packard was truly an inspiration to me. Every day after class he left me thinking deeper into the different meanings in the scriptures. He is a very spiritual man who knows his scriptures. I would love to take another religion class from him.
Brother Packard is an incredible teacher and takes care of his student.
A great professor! He has this dry sense of humor that some people could understand wrong, but it's hilarious. If you work hard and study, as well as listen in class, then you'll be fine. He drills the basic concepts into your head and tells you what you need to know multiple times. Very helpful in classes before exams. Almost told exact questions.
Brother Packard is a fantastic teacher. He is a great choice for 302, but it really doesn't matter who you take. If you do not study for this class, you will NOT DO WELL. Brother Tew and Packard each hold review sessions every week. If you go to these sessions, read the book and do the quizzes, you will do just fine.
Brother Packard is a remarkable professor. He loves Excel. Do not hesitate to ask him questions. Spend time understanding the concepts that he teaches, both spiritual and temporal. Take your time on the quizzes. Do not settle for a C-. "If you think like Brother Packard, you will get an A in the class." That is exactly what I did.
The class is a hard class, and he tries to explain in detail how things are done. Read your book and you will get a passing grade. the homework seems pointless because the tests are all MC and only reflect definitions. learn the formulas and definitions and you will be fine. helpful hint: quizzes in the back of chapters will help you the most!!!!
Brother Packard has great corporate experience. He is very knowledgeable but he is not the greatest teacher. I did not learn very much from him. I learned most of the material on my own or in the tutor lab. He gives 15 minute long spiritual thoughts in class that are great but don't help you pass the class. Again, Really great guy, bad teacher.
He's not a good teacher. Like other has said, he obviously has experience in accounting, but he can't teach and he is unwilling to meet with students. He grades weird and like to do "trick" questions. He really strayed from the topic of accounting to preach his ideas on doctrine, most all of which are the exact opposite of what the church teaches.
Brother Packard is an amazing teacher! He works hard to prepare you for the exams, and offers extra credit assignments. He is willing to meet with students outside class as long as you schedule it. He teaches for understanding, and wants to ensure that everyone understands. He is patient with questions, and gives great lectures!
Brother Packard has amazing devotionals before each class. Super funny guy and makes class enjoyable to go to even though I hate accounting.
Brother Packard is the man. Out of all the accounting professors in the accounting department, I believe that he is the head of the group. He really knows his accounting and teaches very well, but you gotta be at his pace. The class is just fine, if you do the readings and really study the material. If accounting isn't your forte, don't take him.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Brother Packard means well, but the teaching style was just confusing and difficult to follow. Too many steps in order to find answers to problems. Going to class didn't help, and the textbook didn't help that much either.
Brother Packard is not a good professor. He's been an accountant, but that doesn't relate to being able to teach other people how to be accountants. Every class starts w/a devotional which is him pontificating about how spiritual and great he is. Even though were a religious school what he does is out of hand and wrong in many cases.
Brother Packard is very passionate about accounting. However, he spends little time actually teaching accounting and instead spends the first fifteen minutes of class talking about religious nonsense and the rest going on tangents about varying subjects. I liked his sarcastic personality but not his teaching style.
Brother Packard is great. I dont know what everyone's issue is but he is clear in his teaching and information. Great to get one-on-on in office hours. You need to put in the work. I think people have issues in his class becuase THEY DONT LISTEN. So many dumb questions asked. You have to do your part but you get the grade you deserve.
Brother Packard is an amazing teacher. He knows what he's talking about and explains it clearly. It seems like he gets a bad reputation for not explaining things correctly, but those people are most likely the ones who sit in class and don't pay attention. I would recommend Brother Packard to anyone who wants to take an accounting class. The best!
Amazing teacher with good experience. He clearly knows his stuff, and tries his best to make the class interesting. Always gives insightful spiritual thoughts, and super organized.
Brother Packard is not the kind of professor that should be teaching these level of courses. He spends the first 15-20 minutes talking about religion, and the remainder of the time talking about material way to quickly, and glancing over the actual learning while giving more time to his opinion about the material and his experience with things.
Brother Packard teaches the material very well. If you are an accounting major and want a very good understanding of the basics, take him. Tests are important, but the course is set up to prepare you very well. Not sure why he gets bad reviews, those are mostly lazy students. Do the work required and you will do well.
He just needs to work more on not lecturing and being more involved with the class. Doesn't really look at the chat when you send messages until like 10 minutes later. Cool guy, but only take his class if you want a lot of quizzes and exams that are extremely difficult.
Brother Packard seemed the entire semester to care less about if we did well or not. His lectures were extremely over complicated and he did not do a good job of preparing you for the tests. He also shares some really far stretched spiritual thoughts that are not doctrine. Would not take from him again!
Bro. Packard is very knowledgeable, but wastes too much time on spiritual thoughts. Class is hard and prepare for long quizzes and exams. The chapter quiz prepares you for the exam though. I think he's a good teacher, he just takes too many steps to solve a question.
Bro. Packard is very knowledgeable and passionate about accounting but I did not find attending his class helpful because he goes quick in solving problems using excel. The way he designates the course is very helpful. He is a kind man and is willing to go through any questions you have. He prepares exam reviews for us to study which is very nice.
Brother Packard is a solid choice for a professor and really knows his stuff. He takes a long time with his spiritual thoughts which I feel is kind of needed for more help understanding more difficult concepts. He really is a good teacher though. He knows his stuff and it's a really tough class. You CANNOT fall behind or you won't pass.
There are plenty of bad reviews for Bro. Packard. He is a good guy, but his teaching style does not mesh well with many students. The first ten minutes of class are deep doctrine spiritual thoughts and the rest is very lecture heavy. He definitely knows the material and is very smart, but does not always teach it clearly or understandably.
He just does not give you the opportunity to expand your vision in the class. It's a "I run the class and this is how things go" kind of vibe. You're not allowed to ask, "Why?" in the class. He expects you to state things that weren't explained clearly.
Brother Packard is a smart guy but in class it seems his purpose is to make people feel stupid and flex his education on everyone. he spends a lot of time explaining why questions students ask are stupid, and doesn't care what grade you get. find another professor
I took multiple classes from Br. Packard 10 years ago and now work as a CPA. His courses were challenging, nuanced, and required effort, but worth it. No other teacher prepared me more for the the CPA exam and professional world than his did, including later graduate level courses. His personal & spiritual influence were also formative for me.
Brother Packard is one the best instructors here. Had him for 201 and now 302. Super smart guy and helps if you just ask.
This professor does not care about you or if you pass the class. He spends more time talking about religion then Accounting. He told us tons he didn't want to be teaching accounting he wanted to teach religion. He has no interest in teaching you and helping you understand. He expects you to learn everything from the book before coming to class.
Brother Packard is forgetful, and uncaring. He doesn't make announcements, his homework is unneccesarily hard, and he gives poor and unthought out lectures - except for his spiritual thoughts which are good.
He will intimidate students. It is also very hard to get help from him. He is nearly inaccessible outside of class and his rude if you ask for help.
Don't take Packard if you don't have to. He makes things overly complicated and doesn't prepare you for quizzes or tests. His spiritual thoughts each class are confusing, not doctrinal, and sometimes inappropriate. He doesn't seem to care about his students, and it shows in his teaching methods.
Brother Packard always starts his lectures with a spiritual thought that lasts roughly 15 min then would get into accounting. I loved the way he taught: a little no-nonsense and very business-like but he really drives his points home and helps you to understand what's going on. JUST ASK QUESTIONS! You have to ask to get help. He can't read minds.
His spiritual thoughts at the beginning of class are a little odd... Sometimes his lectures don't correlate to what we are learning at the moment and I got confused very many times.
If you are struggling don't just drop the class talk with him and he will help you out.
