He is a very good teacher! The class is very easy, so times a little bit boring, but he makes it fun!!
Kevin Pipkin is the best math teacher I've ever had. He's very clear in his teaching and is always willing to help anyone with any questions. He keeps office hours and is fair. He's also funny and cute!
Best math teacher I've had so far. He's great at explaining problems and is very helpful. I took the night class and it is over two hours in length, but his sarcasm is great. The jokes make the class go by really fast. He also gives partial credit on tests; that helps a lot. Good teacher all around.
Pipkin is a nice guy, but I won't take his class again. The lectures were not clear, they lacked structure, and he's not in tune with how the students absorb the material. Pipkin needs to improve his teaching skills and realize he's teaching college, not high school. He was insecure during the lectures and I questioned if he knew the material.
i love mr pipkin! he has the best sense of humor and puts a lot of focus on keeping his students engaged. homework is collected about twice a week, so it makes it easier to keep up,as opposed to teachers who collect twice a month (in that case for me, i put it off til last minute and end up with a crap load of work). he makes the subject seem easie
I think Pipkin is a great teacher! He explains the info very well.
Mr. Pipkin is a very nice guy. He will tell G- rated jokes all the time! It is pretty boring, but it is math, so.... He is a partial credit seeker (thank god), so that helps your grade on exams tremendously. One of the nicest teachers here.
he is an awesome teacher, warm and friendly and does not make you feel like an idiot. he will stay after class and help you as much as you want!!
I found Professor Pipkin to be the most helpful professor or almost any teacher for that matter. He caters to you the student and is an amazing tutor. I look forward to being in his class again.
He's a good professor especially if you have a hard time with math and need things explained step by step, he really does want everybody to pass.
prof. pipkin is an AMAZING teacher!!! i definitely recommend him. he will help you with whatever you need. HIGHLY recommended.
Mr. Pipkin is very easy going...his lectures are about as interesting as one can expect from a math class, he assigns a moderate amount of homework, and his quizzes and exams are appropriate for the class. He will give a well deserved A or an F...it is really up to the student as to how much his or her social life matters...
Great Guy, love him, i had his class early in the morning, and that was killer but he made it bareable. He does a good job of explaining math.
Wonderful teacher and a good person. Very funny, and charming. He makes the pain of learning math much easier.
Pipkin is an amazing teacher! I totally recommend him. He has a fun and interesting way of teaching Math. The class is never boring. Some questions on the test are from the homework. If you do the homework, you'll pass the tests. Very nice guy!!
GREAT Teacher!!! He made math actually fun and easy to learn. I wish I could take him again next year, but for anyone going into math 120 I highly recommend!!!
I liked Professor Pipkin. He's a nice guy and he does a good job explaining math and grading fairly. He really has a good time with math, and his interest in the subject is a bit contagious. I hope to take him for future math classes.
Mr. Pipkin is a genuine and understanding professor and his kind heartedness is crystal clear. I am not the biggest fan of math, but I would recommend his class to anyone! He will make sure you leave the classroom understanding what he goes over. Show up for class, do your homework and you can get a high grade. He's fantastic.
I'm currently in his Math 120, and if you ask me, Pipkin ought to be your first choice when it comes to math. Wether you're a pro or a little rusty, Pipkin makes the class enjoyable and the material clear. I look forward to his class every T/Th morning (bright and early 8:00) and wish I'd known to take him LAST semester as well! -(Good job Kevin!)
Probably one of the best professors I've ever had. I'm not a fan of math to begin with, but go to class, do your work and you will succeed. He gives ample opportunity for you to do well.
He was an awesome instructor and showed great love for both math and his students.
Mr.Pipkin is one of my favorite teachers. He cracks jokes all the time while he teaches you the material. He makes study guides and gives you example problems so you are ready for the tests. If math is a struggle for you, work your schedule around when he teaches. it's 100% worth it!!!
Probably one of the best math professors I've ever had. He has a great sense of humor and makes the material interesting, he is really helpful, and the tests are sensible. I really enjoyed it and I would highly recommend this class.
This is my second time taking a math class with Pipkin and if I could I would take every math class with him. One of the best I have ever had. Understandable, helpful, flexible, and really cares about his students.
Pipkin is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He is the funniest most caring teacher.
I love Mr. Pipkin! His test are average, just study the study guide provided from him, and you should pass the test easily. He is funny, rock the world of a boring traditional class. Care for his students, and dedicated to teaching. Wish every teachers could be like Mr. Pipkin!. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish Mr. Pipkin taught ever course because I would take him for everything! He's a very very helpful teacher and actually enjoys teaching. If you need help or don't understand something he will walk you through it whether in class or at his office hours. TAKE HIM! YOU WONT REGRET IT!
I failed Algebra II twice in High school, dropped Math 120 last semester because I was failing and then I found Mr. Pipkin. I sat in the front of the class, took notes and studied by tail off and passed, there is no way I could have done it without Mr. Pipkin. If you are a struggling math student, you will pass Pipkin's class if you work hard.
I loved Prof. Pipkin. This math level is not the easiest but he does a great job presenting the material. I wish he taught more levels of mathematics because I would for sure take him again.
I wish I could take him for every math level. Really knows how to explain the concepts. Best teacher I have ever had. Highly recommended
GREAT TEACHER! He explains the material very clear. He is really nice and approachable. TAKE HIM FOR ANY MATH YOU CAN!
Amazing teacher, always avaible to help you durring office hours. Explains everything clearly. I had him for pre calculus and he made the class fun.
the best math teacher I've ever had hands down. Take him for any math you can.
Great teacher, made class a lot of fun and somewhat entertaining even though calc 3 can be a hard thing to teach. Heavily relied on book throughout the semester. Oh, and don't be stupid and DO THE OPTIONAL HOMEWORK. You'll need the practice.
Fantastic Math Teacher! Pipkin has a passion for teaching & helping students learn. Not easy & not hard; he is very fair, which is a great quality in a teacher. Very clear & patient on lectures & very approachable for questions. I would take him again!
I love Mr. Pipkin! I took him for 120 and 335. He was absolutely wonderful at 120 and 335 is a hard course but he made is bearable. He cares and he has good office hours. Love you Mr. P!!
Prof. Pipkin is the best math teacher at the college. As an older student that literally feared math, Prof. Pipkin actually made Algebra enjoyable! He truly cares about his students and sets them up for success. He is funny,(even at 7:30 a.m.)intelligent, and lectures are clear. Algebra finally made sense thanks to this teacher!
Mr. Pipkin is the best teacher I have had at FLC. He has enough sense of humor to keep you awake at 7:30 in the morning, but serious enough about teaching in order for you to succeed. I have never had such a helpful teacher. Even if the same question is asked multiple times, he is more than happy to go over it again and help you out. He is amazing!
Very nice person but gets too distracted spending time on material that we might learn in calculus rather than going over what we need to learn. Final review was optional but didn't go over much, he spent most of the hr on irrelevant stuff. Didn't prepare students well for final. Book is no help because he doesn't teach out of it. Frustrated!
What good is a study guide for final when you don't provide students with an answer key to know if they did the problems right? He admits to being lazy but if you work really hard it would be nice if he would give you the tools. Nice guy though.
He is a great instructor, and both focuses on the calculations of math as well as the proofs. Shows functions with computer apps, and keeps the class lighhearted. Knows how to handle mistakes as well as questions and class time. great teacher. =)
Hard Grader, but a great teacher he teaches soo good you should get an A, but i got a C because i was working and taking differential equations at the same time with a writing class and a computer class.... thus i did not use time management as well as I should have used it..
I had Pipkin for math 120. He is a chill teacher. He is relatable. On his website there he trys to have availiable as much help possible. He provide study guides prior to the tests with solutions. Not a lot of homework, a few even problems and has optional recommened problems that act more like extra credit. He always on time and funny.
super goofy and fun. really helpfiul. he has that high school teacher vibe. would bend over backward to help a student. really kind heart
Best teacher! Hand's down. I would take math with him for the rest of college if I could. He's that cool. He relates to you on a personal level, and not just the classroom. He teaches well, entertaining for a 7:30am class. All around great guy. it was my pleasure to take a class with him.
Super friendly guy, knowledgeable in math, gets off of track with nerdy stories and jokes, only requires 4-5 problems per section of hw. So if u need lots of practice do the recommended! No study guide for first 2 tests. Finalstudy guide slim. Tests are sometimes tricky but overall not bad. Good with office hrs and out of class help. No xtra credit
Pipkin was and is by far the best teacher I have ever had! I had him from 120, 400 and now 401. He is very helpful and knows how to teach. He taught AP calc at a high school so he knows how people learn and his teaching style reflects it. He is very fair and your grade will never be in jeopardy because of him! Take him if you can!
Mr. Pipkin is seriously the nicest teacher ever!! I always feel welcome and he never gets like mad or irritated! The homework is like no work hardly at all! Just make sure you study for the tests!!Take him!!! Really easy to understand his way of teaching too!
Enthusiastic, cheerful, approachable, understandable, compassionate, exemplary, wonderful. Pipkin takes the "Scary" out of Math and puts the "Fun" in its place. You'll find yourself tinkering with problems in your spare time just for fun. Consistent, fair exams and grading. Most amusing in-class metaphors. Truly the Tigger of the Math department!
Professor Pipkin is a great teacher, he makes the class extremely easy to learn and do well in. If you have had any previous Algebra 2 courses in high school this class is as easy as it gets. I had a total of 10-12 absences and got a 97 on the final. I worry that he makes the class too easy. My first week of Trig (with algebra) is pretty tough...
Coolest teacher I had at FLC. I'm not a math person but I enjoyed his lectures and found the hw pretty easy. I wish all teachers at FLC could be like this guy. As a person who has hated math his whole life I actually enjoyed going to his class.
Mr. P. his lectures were clear, tests exactly what he said they would be. Helped me find reason for not passing (didn't retain math 100 from 3 yrs ago) assisted in getting me back on track. Great teacher. I'll be taking from him again.
He is definitely keeps math interesting by relating the concepts to real world scenarios. He's quite a comedian, and is an excellent teacher all around!
He is a really good professor. I don't really like math, but he made math more easy. He is there to help if you need it.
I like this class. All of the lessons were clear and easy to understand. He would answer all of your questions thoroughly and loved it when you went to his office for questions/clarification. Sometimes he would spend half a class to reteach what he taught the day before, so that can get a bit boring. You need to go to class everyday.
Honestly the best math teach at FLC. He is very clear on his examples and does not trick you on the test. All the test questions he has gone over during lectures. He also loves to help, he make extra office hours to help out his students. He makes math somewhat fun.
I love Mr.Pipkin so dang much he is just awesome the best helper and actually cares about you and whats going on. ask questions if you ahve them! Him and Ms.Trieu are phenomenal teachers who will help u find a love for math
Great teacher. Very helpful. Really cares. Also sometimes funny!
phenomenal instructor! I have taken many math classes and this is the best professor I've had. Very willing to meet with students outside of office hours if arranged ahead of time.
TAKE HIM!He is so helpful and funny, I'm the worst at math and I was getting B's on the tests! He cares about everyone and wants you to pass. Truly the Tigger of the Math department. Go to him for help, super approachable. He had the whole class cracking up and the time just flew by!
GREAT professor. I hate math and he made it semi-enjoyable for me. He teaches this class really well and knows what he is talking about. He's really goofy and makes class seem easier. Lots of homework, but small homework assignments. Highly recommend him for this class.
Great teacher!! Very smart, and knows what he's talking about. Also his teaching methods make sure that you get out of the class understanding the subject!! Take his class!!
Professor Pipkin has this amazing ability to turn some of the most difficult material into concepts that the whole class actually can understand!! He is by far one of the best math professors in the whole los rios district! He has this crazy ability to teach and make you understand it almost right away! His lectures are crystal clear! LOVE HIM
Professor Pipkin was a good teacher overall. The funny way he explained graphing in 120 leaves a lasting impression and helps you remember. I wish he gave quizzes and spent more lecture time answering questions. I felt unprepared for some tests even after doing all of the homework, mostly due to unanswered q's and not going to his office-my fault
I'd say Mr. Pipkin is the best math teacher at Folsom Lake. Not only is he funny (in a cheesy way) but he makes math easy to understand. He's also the king of partial credit seekers and so he grades his tests extremely fair and he understands the plights students have with math classes which is extremely nice.
This guy knows his stuff!!!Mr. Pipkin LOVES to teach and he is amazing at it! He applies topics to the real world to help the student remember and grasp the concept. He does test reviews and announces when a quiz will be given. Mr. Pipkin is extremely welcoming during his office hours. I would HIGHLY recommend this teacher!
this guy should be head of the math department, he is one of the best professors out there! I LOVE YOU PIPKIN, NEVER STOP TEACHING, ITS WHAT YOU ARE MEANT TO DO
Pipkin is a fantastic professor and I couldn't recommend him enough. I didn't get an A but that's my own fault. He explains everything very well and makes himself available as a resource.
If you have a choice, you should seriously consider taking his class. Everything is really organized, he goes over exactly what kinds of problems he puts on his tests, and he is good with explaining things thoroughly. I LOVED having him for 120. Although he went off on tangents at times, overall he was an amazing professor. Definitely recommend.
obviously you are wondering whether or not you should take pipkin... TAKE HIS CLASS!!
REALLY NICE AND WILLINGNESS TO HELP YOU!!! I took him 4 days a week and he's good. At first I didn't understand his style of teaching but then after some classes it clicked in my head. I had to still go to tutoring because i struggle with math no matter what but he doesn't make you feel intimidated to ask a question. He's SUPER FUNNY/goofy :)
If you want to be challenged, dont take Mr. Pipkin. I think he is way to easy.I would say if you want to learn the detail more in depth, take Clavin Greene. Coming from two semesters of Tim Curran (who is awesome) I felt Mr Pipkin dumbed it down to much. He treats the class as if they don't want to learn math which in annoying if you do.
To say it simply, I hate math. Pipkin made me really enjoy it. although i ended the semester barely getting a C to move on to Stats300, he was the one who helped me get that C, i honestly dont think anyone else could have put math into laymans terms for those of us that just dont really get it. For those of you that do, fantastic, enjoy that career
Hours spent on material outside of class a week-3 to 5. Grade earned-A. Pipkin understands the pitfalls of trying to learn math and tries to help you through them. Other professors have gone through so much higher division they've forgotten the things they had trouble understanding, Pipkin is aware and this makes him an excellent teacher.
Hands down, the best math teacher I've ever had. Makes the subject fun, and keeps me awake. He's all about student success, and makes himself available for anyone who needs the extra help. He also holds study sessions before most of the exams, which help tremendously. Take his class. He's an awesome professor and an all around great guy. Take him!
Really great professor. In his lectures, he clearly explains and covers all the material you will need to know in order to score well on his quizzes and exams. In addition, if you miss something in his lecture, you can always learn it from the textbook. Also, he makes his class fun and interesting with some jokes thrown in here and there.
Awesome teacher. Gives 8 million helpful points every day
He is an amazing math teacher. he uses a lot of examples during lecture.
HIS CLASS IS NOT AN EASY "A". Since becoming the department chair of math his class is signifigantly more difficult. His class now is just three exams with a cumulative final. Only two quizes and homework wich are 15% of your grade which makes it hard to anticipate what exactly will be on his exams. Also grades on an arbitrary curve
He is an inspirational person and his classes are fun and he gives feedback all the time. I don't even need calc3 but I'm going to take it because he made me to love math.
I dont know what it is about his teaching method, but it really works for me. His tests are curved and fair. Basically study the lecture notes and do some practice problems and you should be fine. He's always more than willing to help and he's really funny! Didn't think I'd be doing so well in a calculus class :P
One word: he is AMAZIG!!!!
Professor Pipkin truly cares about his students. I have always struggled in math, and I still had a hard time grasping the concepts, but Pipkin does his best to help you get through his class and understand the material. He has a pretty good sense of humor, and class was never dull. i would recommend him to people who struggle with math, or anyone.
Mr. Pipkin is the best teacher I have ever had. He has helped me tremendously throughout my time at FLC. He is always willing to help you to do better and if you don't pass his class, you did not put in the effort. I would highly recommend him, and I honestly feel that I could not be where I am today without his help. Calculus 2 and calculus 3.
He's silly. He's a fantastic lecturer. He's a great guy. I wish I could take all 3 calculus classes with him again. The subject material is of course challenging. You really have to apply yourself. I studied at least a dozen hours for each exam, but it's a good process and the class is not as stressful as it could be thanks to Professor Pipkin.
While Calculus is a tough subject, Mr. Pipkin does an amazing job making it clear, doable, and fun. No doubt, Mr. Pipkin knows the mind of a student and is willing to explain any concept, provide any practice, etc. I would definitely take his class again. Be sure to know your trig, derivatives, and integrals :)
Prof. Pipkin is an excellent lecturer and a fun, understanding person in general. He does his best to give feedback on homework that he returns, and will patiently answer your questions. He is very approachable and will not make you feel stupid if there is something you don't understand. Calc is difficult but he makes class interesting.
Professor Pipkin is the most passionate, dedicated and devoted Math Professor I have ever had. He lectures are thorough and leaves no doubt about what material is important for the exams. The exams are very hard and challenge you on most problems - but he is very fair. He wants everyone to succeed but you must put in the work - a must take :).
Best math teacher ever. I took his 7:30am classes and they were great. He knows how to explain everything in a very clear way. I have always struggled with math and this was a great class. The test are hard to me.
Pipkin is great. He is very approachable and able to explain concepts thoroughly and caters to visual learners. Homework was not overwhelming, and we had review before each exam. He keeps class light hearted and tries to make lots of references to pop culture. I wish he gave more partial credit, but his grading is fair. Calc2 is just hard, study.
Great lecturer, helps students fully understand material and will take time to answer questions as best he can. However, he grades on perfection. Meaning, ANY small mistake can cost you major points. Messing up a minus sign at the beginning of a problem can mean you get no points for the whole problem even if you did it using the proper method.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!! This man is special. He entertains the class while also keeping to a schedule. He makes sure his students are succeeding and if they don't he feels like he's failed. He takes his job very seriously and is always at his office hours ready to help whenever a student is in need. This is a calculus so yes it's challenging.
Pipkin is by far the best math teacher I have had. He is very clear on what he expects and truly cares about the success of his students. I understood everything he taught but I did not study enough for tests. To do well you must read through notes and do practice problems before exams. He is goofy and relates with students.
Mr. Pipkin mixes in anecdotes and humor into his lectures making it easy to pay attention to them. I passed the class with doing the bare minimum of taking notes in class and doing the assigned homework. An average homework assignment is around 4 problems. He tells you what to expect on the tests, all of which is covered in lecture.
Great Professor; however, you cannot slack off or your grade will show it.
Prof Pipkin is a great professor He really makes sure that you understand the topic his lectures are good and funny For all engineering majors who need a strong foundation in calculus take pipkin you will really learn a lot
Awesome professor. Notes and the few hw questions per section cover test material perfectly. Very clear on explaining stuff and so much fun to listen to.
Pipkin is the best professor I've ever had. His interest in his students and attitude towards his job are phenomenal. I've always struggled in math, and I was intimidated by my calculus prerequisites, but Pipkin made the process easier and far more enjoyable than I'd ever imagined. I've taken his 401 class as well, you will not be disappointed.
you would have to always be on top of things to get a good grade. even if you slack off a little, it can hurt your grade badly
He is the BEST! Great lectures, makes it fun and easy to understand. Math didn't really click with me til I took it with him. Awesome at what he does, and you can tell he loves his job. Wish I could have had him for every math class!
I have taken pipkin for all my math and he is by far the best teacher I have ever had. If you want to enjoy a math class, take this one!
This Professor is NOT good! If you want to waste a semester of your life suffering in a mathematics class take him, otherwise save yourself a semester and take a better teacher!!!!!!
This professor is all over the place with his lectures, sometimes funny but often off topic talking about random unnecessary things. His class is not an easy A so if you don't want to mess up your GPA, do NOT take him. His exams are a nightmare. Very UNSATISFIED with this instructor
Horrible, Awful and Terrible Instructor: are three accurate words to describe him.
REEAAAALLLLYY hard instructor, it is impossible to get an A unless you are some type of math wizard. Don't take him, his class will ruin your GPA, he does not have any mercy on his students.
Pipkin is a good teacher overall but it is easy to do poorly on his exams. aside from the tough tests the class was really fun. dont worry about getting a bad grade as he always gives you a chance to improve.
Don't listen to the people complaining about Pipkin. Calculus is a difficult class and you should do anything possible to get him as your professor, because he is a phenomenal teacher. He understands how students learn and does a great job at keeping his lectures engaging. Tests are hard, but he gives you good problems to work out. Take him
I had an amazing calc teacher in hs so his class was review for me. You have to attend lecture to make sure you know the "tricks" and he always tells you what kind of exam questions there will be. If you can get ahold of past tests your set! 65% of your grade is from exams and quizzes and final exam is 25%. Around 7-8 hours a week of studying
Best Maths Professor Ive had so far. Would take him again for calucus 3.
He will make sure you understand the material. He will also insert his own personal stories/humor into his lectures. He is easy to go to when you have problems, and he is always willing to help you understand. He cares about your success and it shows inside his classroom. I would highly recommend taking him for the entire calculus series.
A solid instructor, however by far not a perfect one. Four exams, final, and hw, and offers zero extra credit. Lectures are not the worst, put prepare to put in the work to get the grade you want. I would recommend taking Keith for your calculus, however Pipkin is not a bad second choice.
Pipkin is an awesome Calc instructor! I had Keith Clayton for 401, and Pipkin for 402. Both are amazing professors. Pipkin has 4 exams, final, and about 10 homework assignments. Attending class is important because he teaches you all the tricks & will let you know if a problem will be on the exam. No extra credit, but he provides a formula sheet!!
90% of of your grade is tests, quizzes, and cumulative final. got an a on all tests except one which made me end up with a b which kinda sucks. Very little to no hw which is why it doesn't count for crap. Not a bad teacher but goes off topic a lot.
Amazing and inspiring professor. Completely understands the student mentality and it shows in lecture and the way he handles the class. Straight shooter. Consist lecture and expectations. You never feel like youve got the rug pulled out from under you. Work hard. Study and you will be successful. Great lecturer.
One of the best professors I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. His years of experience teaching really show in his lectures. Clearly and engagingly explains complex topics. Has a love of math and teaching that make attending class something to look forward to. Very helpful during office hours. 10/10 teacher and person.
90% of your grade is quizzes, tests, and the final, but the hw that is required for the 10% is not much, bumps borderline grades . Awesome teacher, cares about people understanding, very accessible outside of class, gives many examples of test questions, loves math and teaching. Took him for calc 2 as well.
Best prof on campus hands down. He has funny lectures and is able to talk on the same level on students. He doesn't use fancy jargon to make himself sound smart but instead breaks the most complex of subjects down to easy to understand bites. I took him for Calc 2 and 3. If he asks for numbers in class then respond with 7. That'll give him a smile
Prof. Pipkin is great! He's always in class with a smile and compassion for helping his students fully understand his lectures. The tests are difficult, but that's because the material is difficult. As long as you show up, pay attention, take good notes and STUDY, Pipkin is a fantastic teacher!! One of my favorites.
Pipkin is the best math prof. I have EVER had. Made an 8 am class interesting and fun. He wants you to succeed. Go to his office hours. Attend class as he will teach you the tricks and will tell you what questions he "likes" to put on the exam. Makes math hilarious. Taking him for Calc III next semester. Take him. You won't regret it.
Yes, yes, take em. He is soooo good at what he does. 1 of the few profs who shows that they love what they do. I was always welcomed so warmly at his office. Is more than willing to explain u the same stuff over and over until u get it. His exams are tbh a little challenging, but he tells you the kinds of problems to focus on. Understands students.
Take him as u will never regret it, I promise. He is so good at conveying the knowledge to us that u won't forget it. Having a hard time? Go 2 his office hours, he will break it down frm the outer core till the nucleus (chemistry nerds, u know what I mean!) So friendly 2 his students & professional at the same time. Enjoyed taking a class with him!
Love his teaching style! Of course, calculus 3 is difficult, but he makes it as enjoyable is it can be with his corny jokes. He does a very good job of explaining and walking you through new concepts and problems. There is homework, of course, but nothing too heavy. I would highly recommend him!
3 Tests (inc. final) & quizzes were 90% of the grade, 10% was homework. Quizzes easy, but the tests had NO partial credit during covid. Had partial cred. in-class. Was quite good at explaining concepts, but the only issue is the no partial credit rule. Final wasn't cumulative, only ch 14-15, but it's the hardest sections. Still, great teacher
What a great dude and a great professor! He tries to simplify the complicated calculus concepts so everyone knows what they are doing. His exams are perfectly fair as long as you did the homework. There are 3 take-home, open-note exams and you have 3-4 days to complete them. NO PARTIAL CREDIT! Overall, it's a good class as long as you do some work.
I had Professor Pipkin last semester and he is still my favorite professor at FLC so far. He had thorough lecture videos. There's not a lot of homework in the class, just enough to help you learn. His exams aren't difficult, including the final. He's really helpful and gives good advice that you should listen to. I would take him again if I could.
Took calc III with him and it was super easy to understand all the concepts. His lectures are great and to the point. No partial credit on exams, but it all balances out. Hes a good prof
Pipkin goes above and beyond for his students to make sure they learn and are well prepared for the class. I found him to be very accomodating for the online format which made the class much more manageable and bearable. Highly recommend!
Awesome math teacher. Can clearly explain the concepts. Easily reachable via email, and is happy to spend time to help you understand concepts you're struggling with.
Pipkin is extremely caring and genuinely wants you to succeed. My only issue with the class is the no partial credit policy, but it seemed like he eased up a bit on the strictness of it. He is quite funny in zooms and he does talk a little slow, but he makes the concepts very easy to understand. Homework is graded and you get 3 days to do exams.
Pipkin is the man. Always trying to inspire and encourage you to do your best in his class. His videos are really easy and straightforward to understand. He gives 3 days to do his exams but only 1 day for the final. Overall, the class was a lot less demanding than calc 2
Overall, a good class as long as you do some work.
Professor Pipkin has fantastic lectures. He is funny and explains 3rd semester calc material in a straightforward, easy to understand way. His exams can be difficult but not if you have watched the lectures and understand the homework.
I took this class because I thought he might be as good as his ratings are. Believe me, his exams are ridiculously tough and 90% of your grade. He says that he feels for his students but how can you feel for your students when you take an exam that takes at least 5 hrs and include problems that are not covered in the lecture or youtube videos.
His handwriting is very hard to read. He turned his office hours into lectures, so many people showed up. He prioritized the lecture rather than actual office hours. He said since the class is online, there is no partial credit on the exam. His lectures are on YouTube and there's an ad very 5 mins. You will be fine with x1.5 speed for the lectures.
Im not good at math in any way but this professor is the best. He was a high school teacher before a professor and you can tell based on how he grades and teaches. Yes his exams are challenging but he recognizes it and gave many opportunities to make up points. If you show that you want to pass the class he is willing to help you.
Love this professor! the class is pretty difficult but Professor Pipkin will help you out in every way.
Prof Pipkin is such a nice and genuinely funny guy. The class didn't do so well on a couple of the exams, so he gave us opportunities to take the exam home and redo a certain amount of problems in order to get some points back. Also, he is lenient with HW due dates and lets you submit them when you want, as long as you communicate with him.
He is hilarious and an excellent teacher.
Mr. Pipkin is so sweet! He's very much an 80s nerd but in a really fun way, and he uses it to tie into his lectures. Calc 3 is not easy for everyone, but he makes it feel like it's at least possible for everyone. He cares a lot about his students, and his office hours are always a lot of fun too. He loves explaining the "why" behind the math.
Mr. Pipkin is very chill and funny. He taught Calc III fantastically, I learned a ton from him. He is very understanding and lenient, and he deserves a lot of respect for being so awesome. I highly recommend him!
Biggest tip for this class and professor is take good notes! Most of his test questions are covered in class lectures, so your notes matter for studying! Other than that, he's very approachable, and clearly cares about his students. Put in the effort and you'll do well!
Pipkin is the teacher you're looking for!! He's chill, he's funny, his lectures are interesting, he loves math, and he wants to get to know you and help you succeed. His office hours are always laid back and extremely helpful, be sure to take notes, and always listen in class, he usually explains the test material pretty clearly in his lectures
He genuinely cares about both your outside life and what you learn in the classroom. He's passionate about what he does and lets you ask whatever question, even if it is pre-calc. He has office hours every week, and he always tries to tie in some fun and stories to his lectures. Overall an amazing guy and the class isn't too difficult.
Professor Pipkin is a great math professor! He has helped me in a countless amount of ways with math and he really loves his stuff
Professor Pipkin keeps lectures engaging with his 80s nerd flair. Taking good notes is key, as his exams cover lecture material. unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Though the course can be tough, Pipkin cares about student learning.
Professor Pipkin is the BEST math professor you can take at Folsom Lake College. He truly cares a lot about his students and offers plenty of opportunities for students to succeed in his courses. I have now taken him for Math 401 and 402 and he provides extra practice in his modules so students can best prepare for what they may see on the exams.
Professor Pipkin makes it really easy to learn and constantly keeps the subject fresh by making jokes. He's really easy to contact outside of class hours and is really good at answering questions. Definitely stop by his office hours to get extra practice as he usually gives problems that resemble what he puts on the test.
Best professor I've had
Great professor, very tough class. Go to his office hours and do the practice problems he writes on the board if you want to pass.
Pipkin is an excellent professor. I took him for Calc 3 and the course went very well, making the course much less difficult than I anticipated. I would recommend him highly.
I was not a fan of his teaching style. He teaches more with graphs and pictures than pure math, which is tough for me to learn sometimes. He also makes the class super easy, so everyone can get through which I'm not complaining but it can get boring in class if you are looking for a challenge. Very nice person and funny.
Wish I wasn't fooled by the good reviews. Lectures were SO hard to get through. Doesn't teach the material well, doesn't give you enough examples, spends too much time off track, mumbles a lot of key points. The way he grades exams is very aggresive and one small error can take away 50% of the points for the question, if not more. Dont recommend!
If you could pick another professor, then do so. Only go for him if it's a last resort. I gave my all in this class and don't think im going to end up with the grade I wanted. If you aren't inherently amazing at math, i really think this teaching style will make you pull yout hair out and leave you confused at the end of every lecture.
I genuinely don't think Calc 3 was that difficult of a class at all, but sometimes his grading was pretty brutal and made me feel like my knowledge of the course wasn't being accurately represented. He is a great guy though, decent professor, and very easy to reach outside of class. Lectures can be boring sometimes but he keeps the mood up.
I really liked the professor, allthough his grading is quite harsh , he does give extra credit. Make sure to do the classwork and extra practice on canvas. Would def recommend
Thinks he's funny, is not. Spends 40% of the class going off on irrelevant and uninteresting tangents right in the middle of teaching important concepts. He's a fine professor when he's actually doing his job, though, and is a very good person.
Had him for Calc 3 at FLC. Amazing professor, would take him again 100%. He teaches very visually using his arms and stuff, which helps a lot with the vector calculus concepts.
Had him Spring 2025. Class is only difficult if you do not take the first exam seriously enough (you'll be playing catchup the rest of the semester) or if you aren't very good at conceptual topics. Both of those were me, but Pipkin did a great job at making sure I was still successful + he prepares you very well for future physics & math courses.
This guy is the goat, ignore the bad review they just hating for no reason. The class wasn't hard just do the practice problems he gives you and you'll be set. He is funny and gives stories that are entertaining to get through the 2 hour class. He is also there for you during his office hours!
