Logic is a hard subject. He has the unenviable chore of having to teach it. He won't fail you if you talk to him and ask for help, even if it never makes sense. He's a good guy, kind of spacey and hippie-ish though.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES! He screws you over... seriously, I thought his moral problems class would be interesting and maybe a good class, but I was WAY wrong! He screwed me and practically everyone else in the class over. super hard and makes no sense!
Yep - he screwed me over too! He says he'll give you a good grade if you improve over the semester, but HE DOESN'T!
I proved him wrong in front of the class. Even before that he never helped anyone, after I proved him wrong though, WATCH OUT! He was so mean and would never take my questions when I raised my hand in class. DON'T TAKE HIM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

This class sucks!! Dont take it, at first it seems like an easy class because you get to take the exams as many times as you want but in the end it doesnt matter because they are all so hard.
Very smart Prof, but doesnt know how so socialize or share his intellegence, just makes you feel inferior to him. Class is tough but if you get it then it is not, but watch out for this guys personality, AND DONT PROVE HIM WRONG HE HATES THAT!!!
Very hard. It sounded easy the first day or two, but now I realize what I have gotten into. It is tough material to understand and the quiz/test questions are so tough!
if you take this class (bad idea) dont try to ask him for help. he will tell you that you should look at the book (which he wrote and reads directly from) and if you still dont get it youre basically an idiot. save yourself a "w" or "f&quo
please, take my advice when i say do not take this class! save your self the effort of dropping it later. dont bother asking for help, you wont get any. and then when he hands back the papers, he cant understnad why everyone got such a bad grade.

HE IS AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL....taking his class is like a running joke on campus...even the other faculty think he's crazy. I was told my first mistake was ever taking him in the first place. I even had his class P/NC and still dropped it.

I would recommend avoiding this class if at all possible. The professor doesn't explain things at all. If you ask him a question, he'll tell you exactly what is written in the book (which he wrote). I took the class P/NC, and I still dropped it!

I would take any other class on campus before taking this one again. Possin basically thinks he is the most intelligent human being and makes you feel like you are the most stupid. Some of the statements he uses in his are degrading to Christians.
He wrote the text the class uses so the lectres are often stright from the book and he offers little assistance if you do not grasp the concepts from the go.

Take Ed Slovik for Philosophy! Ed's a really cool professor and his class is pretty easy. Possin is the exact opposite. He's sucks at life and his classes are way too hard for the subject matter.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! We wrote the text book and reads directly from it everyday in class. When you ask him for help, he reads what he wrote in the book and then expects you to understand. He also makes you feel stupid when you don't understand.

i didn't think he was so bad. he plays pink floyd at the beginning of every class. the subject matter is dry but if you put the time in he makes it impossible for you to fail.
I've had Kevin for lots of philosophy classes, and he is hard. He expects you to actually do the reading, homework and come to class. Don't do one of those and you're only hurting yourself.
Ugh! I can't even find the right words to describe how awful this guy is! The class was so hard. Plus, he wrote the book and lectured right from it, so if you didn't understand the book, you wouldn't understand him.
not everything in life is clear or helpful. possin is an excellent teacher who teaches things that should not be treated lightly. in his class, you must accept responsibility and be willing to learn. if you do that, you will get a lot out of his class.

This man is constantly trying to sell his class (aka the posters in every classroom on campus!) There is a reason for this, The only way to get students to take Phil 110 is to trick them into thinking its important. It's NOT!!!! Take it pass/no credit!!

The guy is an educated idiot. Like DJ he wrote the book and thinks alot of himself. Take for pass/no credit if you feel you have to take it. Then GOOD LUCK. We started with 70 students and ended with about 15 (10 dropped the week before finals)
Where do I start? This is not a class to take lightly. The more work you put in, the more you get out. Spend time in the lab!!! Understand these concepts, they become interesting when you have a good grasp on them. I did not pass the first time aro
If you dont understand this class you are out of luck - because HE DOESN'T EITHER. You ask him for help - or explain that you dont understand - and he blows you off - mainly because he doesn't understand as well.

If you dont agree with his opions he will give you an F, and if you ask him if he'd be willing to help you, his answer would be "No, no really." Dont take him!!!
He is probably the worst prof I ever took here at WSU. He is not helpful one bit. This class truly was a miserable experience!!!
Horrible teacher. He will lecture in class about critical thinking, but expect you to right papers in a way that he doesn't teach you and won't help you. Abolutely rediculas teacher.

Everybody complains that critical thinking is so hard. Its not. If you have half a brain and understand logic, you'll do fine. I got a B and rarely, if ever, studied.

You barely have to go to class, everything is out of the book he wrote himself. The tests are not that hard and you get unlimited retrys to improve your grade. Good class for life.

Well let's see... First he follows Kantian philosophy, a school that has been ridiculed by every known philospher, he allows for only one opinion (his), and he grades papers on no sensible level I can see. For a 100 level course, this is damn hard to pass
TAKE THIS CLASS PASS/FAIL. Class is boring, but he gives lots of EC opportunities if you go. He gets test happy at the end of semester so be prepared to get bombed. Crazy guy, but it's great to laugh at him. :)

He will destroy your will to live. Despite how easy the class may sound--being able to take test's as many times as you like--unless you spend every waking hour taking the tests, you will fail misserably. Take it Pass/Fail and it shouldn't be too bad.
Thought provoking, although I was a naive freshman at the time. Seemed liberal but never proclaimed it - not a tough class if you do the work - which was more than I expected as a fresh. Probably hard to get an A though, unless you agree with his positions.
Possin is a smart guy and he knows what he's talking about. Yeh the tests take work to do well on, but you may actually have to read the book, study, practice, and spend some time on it, but it's do-able and he is VERY willing to help you out, he's also hilarios and his book is very readable
take pass/fail!! i think his other courses may be better. i asked ?s about lecture...was referred to the book (which he wrote and had the exact same info. as lecture, so wasnt helpful). take it p/f and you'll be fine.
He sucks!!! I re-took the class a second time and got 2 grades better with a different Prof. Thinks he is all knowing. I pointed out faults in some of his logic at sometimes and he could not give me an answer, he just moved on. He should be fired.
He thinks he knows everything. He wrote the book himself, and explicitly says that his book is the CORRECT way to approach CT, unlike any other one. Talks about abortion CONSTANTLY. He's very annoying, don't take him!

He isn't a good teacher, he doesn't explain things, he just refers to the book (Which he wrote) or the "tutors" in the critical thinking lab (they don't really help either) so basically you're stuck trying to learn this yourself. And he isn't clear on things, and he doesn't care if you don't get it...also he isn't very understanding. take pass/fail
Don't take this class!!! He is very unhelpful and only refers you to the book or lab assistants. Taking it pass/fail is still hard to pass because he is so unclear in lecture!!

WORST CLASS EVER! He is just stupid because of all the drugs he took in the 70's. I have no idea how he got a degree in anything! take this class pass/no credit the prof. even recomends doing so. You can take the tests as many times as you want as long as you get a 60 by the due date, yet getting an 80-90 average is almost impossible. If you go to class & do every test passing is easy but getting an A or B would be very hard. He gives a lot of extra credit which helps a lot
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST! The woarst class I have ever taken in my life, hard and not interesting. It is hard to pass or even get a gppd grade, many ppl have to retake this if it is required, he is so unhelpful and unclear, if your a LWSO major, good luck, you'll prolly die. This class is crazy. I was a fool to take this class for a letter grade and now I am struggling for a C in the class. Possin is friendly and he TRIES to help when you go and talk to him, but the man makes no sense at all. The material is not interesting either...
Possin is a bit big-headed, but this is the most applicable stuff you'll ever learn. The people who fail are those who don't study and/or don't go to class. You get loads of extra cred. and can retake the tests as MUCH AS YOU WANT. It doesn't get much easier than that.
TAKE CLASS PASS NO CREDIT. Lecture class with no assignments, except extra credit homework every now and then. The entire course is based off quizzes you take in a lab, quizzes are extremely hard to score high on, and are inconsistent. Teacher wrote the book and the software and everything else, makes you want to question how true everything he say
Wow... what a hard ****ing class. No wonder it's the most failed class at Winona State. Listen to people's advice... it can really drag down your GPA if you don't do pass/fail, trust me. Possin is straight up a crazy, crazy man. Funny at times, but the class is a pain. Just go to class, and make sure you do the tests on time in the lab. He gets a bad rap because most of the kids in class are dumbasses. Overall, though, I can't say I like the class. Also, if you ask for help he makes you sound dumb.

Best class I took for Gen ed. He makes logic easy and understandable. Getting a good grade is very easy since you can take the tests as many times as you want. This class will help you for the rest of your life since critical thinking is important no matter what you do.
It boggles my mind how this old **** weaseled Critical Thinking into the gen ed. curriculum. The class is positively useless, yet most freshmen take the course because it is one of the only 100 level courses available to satisfy a specific Gen Ed requirement. You are much better off taking a 300 level course. Believe me, it will be easier.

RUN! Run far and FAST! Avoid this man like the plague! He does NOT make sense! The text for the class, as well as the software, are of his design. He wrote them therefore he is the only one it makes sense to. This class will serve no purpose in real life. Waste of time and money. Plus, he's arrogant. Damn tenures.
His teaching style and his self-styled materials are difficult to wade through, much less understand. Some might say that this course is easey, because you can retake the quizzes; doesn't help if you don't understand the material on the quizzes. Scared the hell out of me as a freshman and I ended up withdrawing after he dissapeared for a month.

Possin is far worst then any of the teachers I had in HIGHSCHOOL. I was floundering in the class until his month-long absence finally forced me to drop it...not that going to class helped learn anything. His teaching style is to read the book that he wrote to the class everyday, and he is completely unapproachable.
Everyone who thinks this class is hard is either incredibly stupid, incredibly lazy, or both. I barely tried and got an "A".
He is a foolish liberal
Most of the material is debatably subjective and written by the man himself. He uses this class to indoctrine students in his EXTREMELY liberal beliefs. Do not take this class if you are offendable and anything less than near-radically liberal. Don't expect any help, and be ready for a D.I.Y. internet course, just in case.

Interesting teacher, lectures only, his handwriting is like a different language. Takes a while to dechipher. Hint: q's are normally p's. Hes keeps his topics impartial, teaches the facts and leaves his personal opinions at home. Enjoyable class, only essays, and only about four essays for the class. No other homework is assigned.
He says damn a lot and is fun to listen to with very enthusiastic voice inflection.

Instead of using a textbook he uses a computer program he wrote, which is terribly flawed. The problems he presents are consistently unclear and his class is extremely dull. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

He is a HORRIBLE teacher. He does not make sense, and he tends to go off on random arguments, and is extremely vocal on his opinon. His papers are extremely hard to write. If you dont know how to write a position paper or a criticism paper you are pretty much set to got getting the grades you would like to. I would highly reccomend not taking this
Dont take a class with him. my freshmen year i had all A's except for this class. The content is intersting but his grading and papers are impossible. I enjoy writing but this class smothered my interest. Uses his opinions as facts
When i first enrolled in class i was exctied and interested. but as time went i realized the true nature of possin. the materail in class is intersting but what he expect of his students is ridiculous. He uses opinions as fact, try to say you opion and he will hate you. The papers must be written in exact layout he wants. witch is confusing as hell

This guy is not a good teacher at all. I was interested in learning a basic foundation of philosophy beforehand, but instead it turns into a struggle to get good grades on his tests that are all done on the computer program that he made. His lectures tend to be more of him talking to himself rather than actually covering material. Don't take him!

Not as bad as everyone says. Read the book, take notes and pay attention in class and should have a decent grade. Go into class with an open mind, he isnt trying to push opinion, he just uses controversial topics to demonstrate concepts. ALL HW IS EXTRA CREDIT! Can retake tests as many times as want. Not too bad, but definitely not great.

Well, I am really great at philosophy and I really love the subject, however this class really resembles the "logic" side of things making it more of a math class. If you love independent learning, math/science, talking in class, and have tons of spare time to retake your tests over and over..I recommend it.

This man does not deserve to teach at WSU. A professor that charges you points to check your grade needs to reevaluate his teaching methods. His handwriting does not look like English. The topics covered really don't challenge your to critically think. Very unsatisfied with this course, worst yet in college.

This guy needs to go back to the 60s and take some more acid. I asked if i could come to his office and review my scores and he just says no. Its a crime how he gets paid for what he does. EXTREMELY disappointed in WSU for allowing this guy to teach there.
Absolutely awful! I attended every class, always listened, & then I would do my best to apply it to the papers & he would disagree with everything! Sooo frustrating! Can NOT read his handwriting, he rambles about things that don't even make sense, & grades very unfairly!! This isn't a real ethics class, it's a complete joke! Do NOT take this class!

Course was much harder than expected, go to class and listen, not necessarily take notes. Follow his examples exactly for exams and you will get good grades! you are allowed one excused absense.
Not an easy professor by any means, but he expects highly of you. Many people are tricked into taking CT thinking it will be easy, and then assume he is to blame when they fail. He is a fantastic philosopher and knows what he is doing. The relaxed atmosphere of his classes doesn't reflect the quality he expects but if you can deliver you will learn

Be prepared to put in lots of time retaking quizes. If you attend class, pay attention, and do ALL extra credit, you will do fine. He is very unclear at times and the material can be confusing.
He is very vague on all of his expectations on his assignments. The topics are always confusing. He doesn't explain things well. Sometimes you will come up with a good question and he just blows it off. Diffidently would avoid taking him.
His assignments are not clear, is a very hard grader. It is his way or the highway; u can have a very good point, but if he doesn't believe in it, he will shoot u down. A lot of times he will tell u that you question or answer was irrelevant and make it seem like u dont know what your talking about. if u can put up with him, not the worst class
I graduated in 2002. Kevin Possin came up in conversation. He has an ax to grind with organized religion and anyone was that is pro-life, and people that use Windows. Critical Thinking Could is a wonderful Concept. He does not encourage it in his class. I have since read Ayn Rand and Pirsig in my spare time. Possin should be fired.
