Dr. Pybas seems to have good intentions, but his class is nearly impossible. The ENTIRE grade is based on the tests. Being horrible at test-taking, I have prettty much failed the class. You are NEVER RIGHT. If you tell him the sky is blue he will disagree
He is very confusing and your whole grade is determined by the tests. He refuses to give extra credit. Do not take this teacher, he is horrible.
Very smart in politics. His grades are based on the tests, but they are only thirty questions long. If you know how to study you will make an A in this class. I study about three hours for the test.
He is horrible. He use to be a lawyer, but I imagine he failed at that.He doesn't grade any of your work and has your entire grade dependent on 4 tests and the final. No other points;he doesn't want to grade them, or so he said. He's horrible, don't take him
If you don't test well, don't take this class. Nice guy but very difficult class.
Very intelligent. He knows his stuff. Tests are difficult but all you have to do is study. He's readily available to students. Great political science teacher.
Put out or get it out. Dr. Pybas demands excellence. Work diligent and you WILL be prepared for Law School!
Dr. Pybas is an extremely nice person and techer. He is extremely smart, yet helpful. He is very fair, and does cancel some classes.
Probably one of the best, yet most difficult professors. The class discussions are great, and the class is surprising fun. Dr. Pybas cares about his students and it shows. He is definitely an asset to SMSU's Political Science Department.
Dr. Pybas is very nice and clear. His tests are a bit difficult but if you take thorough notes and study, you will do fine. I really enjoyed his class.
He's a really nice guy. I don't like politics, but the class isn't too bad because he brings up interesting points/discussions. Tests are a little harder than other classes, it seems, but still manageable.
He is a little difficult, but he's clear and will discuss something if you don't feel you get it. He expects you to try in his class, so it's not an easy A, but I liked the class and learned a lot. Don't take him if you're not willing to try, but I heard that he's one of the best PLS professors.
He was very clear on everything that he talked about. His class is hard but it is accomplishable as long as you listen and take good notes. He doent write out notes so you have to be a good listener.
I am not a poitical science buff at all, but he makes this class interesting. He doesn't have printed notes but if you listen it is not hard to follow. He is always willing to discuss in class or out of class anything you don't understand. He goes over topics for test day before test. Take him.
He's boring and he's a bad teacher. I get lost with what he's saying and I have to record class bc I can't pay attention to him. He rambles about stupid stuff. He's so smart he just doesn't know how to teach what he knows. His points are all based off tests and nothing else. He's really helpful though, but he's just a bad teacher.
If you are not planning on being a pls major don't take him because his class is way too hard for a gen ed class
Very nice guy with a slight sense of humor. He knows his stuff and is very willing to help, but he's just not the best at teaching it. I might have picked someone a little more interesting. He can be a little dull.
he has the most monotone voice that makes it impossible to stay awake in this class. the tests are very hard and confusing. i wouln't recommend taking him for PLS.
His class is kind of hard, he expects a lot of work from his students to get an A. He explains things pretty well, but his lectures can be pretty boring. He is very smart and is pretty willing to help you if you need it. If you are looking for an easy PLS class this isnt it.
Great instructor. Challenging, intelligent, and thorough. Not an easy A by any means, but if you are willing to put forth the effort you will leave this class with a clearer and more complete understanding of Political Science, democracy, and U.S. Citizenship. I recommend this instructor!!!!!
I found this class very difficult, and it was the only class of the semster that I did not receive an A in. He seems very educated, but the class is very boring. He is willing to give you help if you need it.
If you want an A you have to earn it, and he tells you that the first day of class, he forces you to learn and not just slide on through. His tests are all matching and true/false and he posts his notes and test reviews on blackboard. Great guy.

This guy is really hard and his sense of humor is very very dull!!! I dropped this class last semester and I made all A's and have a 3.80 gpa. I would never take this class ever. You have to read 30-40 pages a night and test are confusing and not out of notes. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
he knows what he is talking about. although the only grades are tests, they are not hard. if you go to class and take notes and read over them for the tests you will do well. but you do have to go to class. and he now gives an option for extra credit which is easy.
I am a pls minor and have a huge interest in politics, and he did not spark my interest. That is saying something. He talks about what interests him and is not clear even though he provides notes on blackboard, his tests seemed to have more stuff not even mentioned in the notes than it did provided material. I wouldnt recommend him to anybody.
Dr. Pybas was a good teacher but he didn't give you any opportunities to pull up your grade. You grade is based on 5 tests and that is it. No quizzes, assignments, or extra credit. He takes attendance everyday but you do not get any points for it. His tests are hard and sometimes are difficultly worded. Do not take this class if you want an easy A.
Very difficult teacher. He's a very smart man and it shows, but when it comes to teaching, he struggles with explaining what he's trying to get at. He has a very monotone voice and you really have to pay attention during the lecture to understand what hes trying to get across. Be prepared to be challenged--he will NOT make this easy for you.
This course was very challenging. I wound up reading 50-70 pages of dense material each night almost. He will put you on the spot with questions over the reading, although I do feel that he doesn't mean to humiliate you. Just read, read and read some more. Be ready for very tough, long tests. A "B" in this class should be considered a miracle.
A challenging and thorough professor, but seems to value hard work for it's own sake (entertainment value?) and not towards a more benevolent end of student learning. He said our papers deserved insightful comments, but just marked mine up with the work "awkward" and marked a low grade on it...
I do not recommend him at all. He is extremely arrogant and often goes off on meaningless tangents. His class is super boring, and he makes it almost impossible to get an A in the class. You take 4 exams plus a final and no other points are offered. The tests basically consist of 50 trick questions that don't even make sense. Don't take him!
This man refers to himself as a "political elite". Because he is so arrogant he expects everyone to know everything about politics already. His tests are a set of confusing questions and often material that has never been covered. I've attended every class and studied very hard and still have a low B.. He is impossible, and boring. Dont take him.
He talks with his mouth closed so no one can understand what is he talking about!!!!!! it is a waste of 90 mins of my life!!!! He would be a good teacher if you could hear him and if he didnt talk so dull!!!
A fun interesting class and a nice, somewhat funny guy. Quizzes are an easy B or A if you study although they are all true false which is tricky. He has 2 tests which are take home and take hours and hours to do, although they are tough they are somewhat interesting. He grades very hard and you should be rediculously smart if you want an A
this class is probably the hardest class ive ever taken he talks in a mono tone and you cant pay attention and then when you take the test its the trickiest questions youll ever see and he gives no bonus you only take 4 tests as you grade and doesnt curve anything NEVER TAKE HIM
I honestly think he is a nice guy, outside of class anyway... however, I think you have to be realllly smart to make a good grade in the class. He loves! true and false questions as well!
This class was a challenge. Pybas is very smart, probably the smartest of my professors. The tests are difficult, especially the true/ false. If you are interested in political science or care about learning and not just your grade, take him! You will learn a lot and he is very good about responding to emailed questions.
Make no mistake, Pybas is HARD. He demands EXCELLENT work and study from you, but he is one of the wisest men I've ever met. He knows his stuff and he's more than happy to help you understand. Sit in front (in the same place every class)take notes, copy your notes, study in a group, read every day. I would definitely take him again. Nice guy.
I guess some of these reviews are old but i had his PLS honors class and I loved it! He put history into the politics and makes it interesting. Yes, his tests are hard but just do your studying and pay attention in class and you'll be fine! He loves discussion and is a really nice guy. I reccomend his class to anyone.
Prof. Pybas expects you to put in a great deal of time and effort (reading assignments are long and can be tedious, and tests/papers are definitely a challenge), but if you're seriously committed to learning about the topic, you'll benefit from his experience and knowledge. He's also more than fair; gave me a much-needed extension on a paper.
Proffesor Pybas is very passionate about wjhat he teaches and like all people who are passionate he takes it very seriously. He is has very hard tests, but his lecure is very interesting and full of discussion. I took his gen ed class and enjoyed it if that is possible, i recomend taking him for your pls 101 class
Dr. Pybas is phenomenal. I had absolutely zero interest in his class but he had me hooked halfway through the first day. He is very passionate and his lectures are interesting. He is one of the hardest pls 101 instructors, but the knowledge you gain from him is well worth the struggle for a decent grade.
He is a very hard teacher, but his class is not impossible. Pay attention in class and look over the definitions in the textbook before the tests and you will be fine. He doesn't care about attendance, so you could just keep up in the text and not go to class and probably do fine, because his lectures follow the text exactly.
He talks kind of mono tone. But he has a lot of interesting things to say. You don't necessarily have to be in class, but his tests are kind of hard.
Pybas loves what he teaches, but I hated this class. I took it honors so maybe he expected more of us. The discussions were above my head. We rarely used the book. He gave tests from his lectures and 2 essays from a study guide that was a nightmare to complete. It was the 10 article summaries that kept my grade alive. He was available for help.
One of my favorite professors ever. Anyone who compains that Dr. Pybas is too hard is just lazy, in reality. Yes, there are lots of readings and he expects students to study (imagine that). He is a very fair grader when it comes to papers and essay tests, though true/false can be a bit tricky. Great sense of humor. If you need - ASK!
I have taken two of his classes (PLS 515 and 518) and will take PLS 517 in the spring. Good professor. You HAVE to do the readings and display a good work ethic. If you are not prepared to do that, don't take the class. He enjoys the material he is teaching and is accessable outside the classroom. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Pybas definitely knows his stuff. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. He's always willing to help, whether its about his class or not. It is by no means an easy class. If you have no interest in the subject, Pybas probably would not be the best choice for you. Attendance is required for a good grade on the tests. Be sure to read the book.
He is really slow and slightly monotone but he does cover the subject really well. If you like to talk in class it is good cause he always asks for input from students and it adds to the conversation. I really enjoyed it and he is really helpful outside of class, he will do a lot for his students.
pybas is a really cool guy, but he talks kind of quiet so i'd suggest sitting towards the front. you really have to listen because he doesn't use powerpoints or anything. i went to every single class, but his tests were still very difficult. i like him a lot as a person, but i'd suggest a different teacher.
I like Pybas, although a lot of people don't. Sit near the front, take careful notes (he doesn't use powerpoint), and study. If you do that, you'll succeed. Don't blow this class off and think you can pass. Also, he doesn't as much test you on reading the text, but he will on definitions derived from it. Just copy the definitions & study.
This guy is awesome. He knows a ton about constitutional law. Yes, his classes are difficult. Boohoo. Stop being so lazy. This is college.
This professor is fantastic! He comes off as very hard core at first, but he's actually really nice. The class is a little rough because the only grades are the tests, but as long as you pay attention in class and take notes, you should be fine. He's excellent at helping you understand, and is great at answering questions. I highly recommend him!!
Dr. Pybas warned us on the first day of class that he is a super hard teacher, but that's really an exaggeration. While the material can be challenging, with a little effort this class should be a no brainer. I would take this professor again.
Excellent professor. Dry sense of humor, and very knowledgeable about the subject material. His tests are pretty much all from the lecture. Tests are multiple choice and true/false. He gives you a study guide, as well. Read the book a little, show up to class, take notes, and you'll be fine.
Very difficult class. Note taking is very hard. If you are thinking about recording his lectures, don't even try. He is every soft-spoken so in order to hear everything, sit in the front row. Tests are very hard as well because you don't really know to what depth you need to study. Do not underestimate this class. Study hard out of class.
You MUST attend class to receive a good grade in this course. He gives no homework or quizzes. If you attend class and take notes you will get an A. I've heard a lot of complaints about him, but I thought he was great. He really cares about his students understanding the material.
Great teacher, made class interesting. If you attend all the classes , and take notes you can earn a B or A
This class was WAY too hard. He is a nice guy, but the class is extremely boring and you have to take a ton of detailed notes if you want to do well on the test. Save yourself the trouble and take someone else.
Dr. Pybas made a subject that was daunting into something that I actually found very interesting. Take detailed notes because there are no PowerPoints or homework. He gave a study guide with everything that would be on the test. Do the study guide and you're golden. Pybas has a very dry sense of humor and passion for the subject.
He has a very dry sense of humor but is a brilliant Con law professor. His tests are 50 true/false and then an essay portion. He grades his essays and his paper pretty fairly. If you show up and ask questions a B is very doable.
You gotta go to class, it's that simple. 95% of his tests are based off his lectures. It is actually one of the most boring, long classes I've ever taken. VERY monotone & hard to listen to. You can tell he's a super nice guy though. The only points are tests, so TAKE GOOD NOTES. That's the only way to get an A in there.
Very monotone and boring. I have fallen asleep.
I can respect Dr. Pybas, but his tests are super difficult! I did the study guides, and thought I new the material, but still barely got a B. You need to read the book!!!
Yes, this class is a challenge. You will have to study and you will have to put a lot of extra work into it. But if you really don't understand something go and talk to him. He makes way more sense if you go into his office hours. I learned a lot in his classes and plan on taking others.
Show up to class, take notes, and ask questions. Read the book!!! I can't stress that enough! You get four exams in this class, that's it. The only homework is the readings. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask, he's actually a cool guy if you get to know him. However, he does talk the entire lecture time and his voice can be a little monotone.
The most boring/monotone man I have ever experienced in my life. Pybas is no doubt a smart guy but his ability to share knowledge is lacking. He tends to get off topic with "sidebars" that waste time and confuse you. Does allow you to drop lowest test score if you have less than 5 absences. Too boring. I am not a fan and will be avoiding in future
Pybas is a great guy! Very dry sense of humor. Pretty quite, so sit towards the front. Just pay attention, take notes, and if you struggle just email him and find a time to meet. He's very helpful if you reach out to him. The great thing about him is that if you don't miss more than 5 classes, he'll drop your lowest test score.
Dr. Pybas is a very intelligent man. Although the tests are difficult, he makes you work for the grade you receive in the class. What is nice about his course is that if you miss 4 or less class periods, he drops your lowest test score. He is a great professor and really cares about your grade, but you just have to work for it if you want an A.
Not terrible. You don't really need to read the cases as long as you take good notes. Sometimes confusing
Dr. Pybas is a very challenging but fair professor. I'm not going to lie, his class was the hardest one I have taken in college. However, he really prepares you for law school and really causes you to work hard (which is how college should be). However, if you do the readings, have good attendance, and study hard, you will excel in his class.
Dropped this class half way through the semester. Compromised of 4 tests each worth 24% of your grade and 4% comes from long reading assignments. If history tests are not your strong point, this class will suck. He's a good guy, but his tests made no sense to me, and it's hard to take notes from his lectures. Save your time and get a new professor.
Very soft and monotone voice- makes lectures hard to pay attention to. Tests don't depend very heavily on the lecture, so that makes it hard to pay attention too
Kevin's lectures are extremely boring. There's pretty much a boring lecture everyday. Test are based off lectures, and the text book.
Dr. Pybas is a very nice guy, but not a great teacher. There is no visual aid, and strictly lectures for the whole class time. Your grade is comprised of three tests and a non-accumulative final: that's it. So, better be ready to read your text book and listen hard in lecture.
Kevin is a good guy and a decent teacher, classes are very lecture heavy but if you listen and take good notes there's no reason you wont get an A he covers his tests very well throughout his lectures. If you take this class show up, listen, and you'll do well. PLS 101
He's a really easy professor if you come to class and take notes. The homework is weekly, online, and out of the text book but it's nothing too difficult or time consuming. He's a really easy professor for PLS 101 and he doesn't go on any political rants and remains very unbiased in his lectures. Recommend for those who need the class for Gen Ed.
Grade is made up of 4 tests (each test worth 24% of grade) and online reading assignments for each chapter (only worth 4% of grade) Very hard to follow his lectures, he's kind of all over the place, very monotone. Tests seemed difficult for gen ed class. If you miss less than 4 class periods he'll drop your lowest test score. Nice guy just bad prof
Hes really smart and pretty funny. By far my easiest class.
Very interesting guy. I enjoyed his class.
Pybas is so scattered brained during his lectures because he will jump back and forth between ideas. Don't buy the book, it's a complete waste of money because the stuff he tells you to read, he summarizes in class. You'll do roughly 15 100 point assignments that are 80+ questions each and it is only worth 4% of your grade. Avoid taking him.
Dr. Pybas is one of the best professors I have ever had, not to mention a great pre-law advisor. You must do the reading to prepare for class. He is extremely knowledgeable and that shows in his lectures. He is extremely accessible and more than willing to offer help or advice. If you are struggling at all, take the initiative to ask for help!
Honestly I dont understand the bad reviews on here. Dr. Pybas cares a lot about his students and their understanding of the subject matter and it really shows. Obviously if you don't do the assigned reading and study you're not going to do well, but its a college course. I had to miss a test and he was super accommodating, I'd highly recommend him.
The tests were worth 96% of your grade so if you didn't do good on the tests you won't have a good grade in the class. He's also very monotone so it is hard to pay attention in the class if you aren't a fan of history.
While he is pretty monotone, he's hilarious and interesting to listen to. If you answer/ask questions he'll like you but otherwise he wont bug you. As long as you go to all the lectures, actually pay attention, and take good notes this class shouldn't be too hard. 96% of the grade is tests so if you don't do the assignments your totally fine.
He is monotone, but honestly he is a very good professor. He knows what he is talking about. Yes 96% of your grade comes from your tests, BUT if you show up to class and take notes you will have exactly what you need to study, plus if you don't miss more than a couple of classes then he'll drop the lowest test score. Honestly it's worth it.
You have to go to class and take detailed notes if you want to get an A, but it definitely isn't impossible. The lectures can get boring, but Pybas is a very intelligent teacher that has extensive knowledge on the topics discussed. His study guides have everything you need for the test, just make sure to review the textbook vocab.
He is a really nice person and I enjoyed some of the topics he covered. Overall tough class. You need to study very hard for the tests and make sure you show up. He will drop your lowest test grade if you don't miss more than 4 class periods. That helped me bump my grade because I needed it. He will also often go off topic.
Everyone's saying this dude is hard in his intro level class. I say they're wrong. Fall 2018 we had 3 tests and a final. If you missed fewer than 4 days, he'd drop your lowest test grade. He answers every single question, even if it's "stupid." Before every test, he gives a great study guide. Pair that with the online homework and you'll pass.
I'm taking his Constitutional Law I class and I have to say it's enjoyable. Most of the class is discussion, so you have to read the cases before you go into class to be able to understand everything, but he makes sure that everyone understands the material before you leave. My only complaint is he tells you the week of if you have a quiz.
Dr. Pybus is my absolute FAVORITE professor I have ever had. I am a political science major and he makes the information so clear. In lecture he makes sure to answer any questions students may have and voice his opinion while also respecting the opposing side of his.
You can tell he is extremely knowledgeable over the subject, however, he is extremely monotone and doesn't repeat himself when giving important information. Try to sit near the front because he is quiet and has a low voice. I recommend taking a different political science teacher if you know this would be a tough subject for you.
I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS SLANDER ON KEVIN PYBAS! Pybas is a great prof for getting the gen ed requirement of PLS 101 out of the way. He is very passionate about the work he does. As long as you go to class, take notes, and ask questions, you will do fine! He also will drop your lowest test score if you miss less than 3 or 4 day. Highly recommend.
Dr. Pybas is a tough professor but fair. He will push you to understand the material rather than just have it memorized. He loves to engage in discussion and is very responsive and helpful for questions in and outside of class time. Not an easy class but you will learn a lot.
Pybas is AWFUL! I had to drop his class after the first two months, I couldnt take him anymore, he gives you absolutely no resources (such as powerpoints)& he never writes anything on the board, he just talks the whole time and expects you to take notes from that & not to mention, he is MONOTONEalso dont every expect to get out early wont happen
AWWWWFUL !!!! Always off track , one class we literally spent like 40 minutes on a random topic and we had a test the next class period. He gives you no resources such as a powerpoint , he doesnt even write on the board .. Yeah never again.
Tests are hard but gives study guide. All based off of lecture and there's always like 2 questions from the book but you have to buy the book not w/ mo state and you don't use it. He's very monotoned and boring but gets off track and those convos are fun. Don't miss class and he'll drop your lowest test score.
This was the hardest class I've taken at MSU. He is boring and quiet so hard to hear and understand. Thank god MSU had pass/ fail for corona because I was going to get a D. Horrible teacher and would not recommend at all. He's kind of funny though. Grades are 4 tests and he drops lowest test if you only miss 1 class all semester
WOW this is a tough class. Dr. Pybas only grades on quizzes, a paper, and two tests. He dropped the paper grade because of the coronavirus which made it harder to get enough points for a good grade. Make sure to read because he will call on you. Lectures are fine but his philosophical musings are entertaining. He's a harsh grader. Switched to P/F.
Coming back onto campus after covid, he won't give any extra credit. Will only lecture and then test over the book content he didn't talk about. Only has 3 tests and then the final. Will not work with you on your grade. Uses Skypack.
Really tough to listen through all of the lectures. The tests have very little to do with what we read or go over so best of luck on that since you're grade is basically decided through the tests. As long as you make an effort and try not to miss class (virtually or in person) he will round your grade up.
You HAVE to attend lectures and read the Skyepack textbook. Only grades in class are the 4 exams and because of COVID he isnt removing lowest test scores like in the past. He gives you a study guide but most information youll have to find outside of lecture and textbook notes.
Some people should not teach politics. Kevin Pybas is one of those people. His attitude is off-putting, and he was clearly biased. Additionally, we hardly even covered politics in this class. He taught like it was a history class, not political science. Lastly, there are only 4 tests, no homework. Good luck doing well in his class. I pray for you.
The only grades in the class were the exams, no homework or anything. There is a book that you can buy which I took advantage of to try and understand the course. The lectures weren't interactive and 9 times out of ten I left not sure if I learned anything new. Only take this professor if you are strong at testing.
Very monotone lectures, but the info was all there. Tests were very difficult. Had to read this online textbook that was extremely long and really hard to get into. Everything was graded based on 4 exams. No other assignments and no extra credit.
Pybas has no connection to students and zero mercy. If you miss even a single day he will hold it against you for the rest of time. He is extremely arrogant and refuses to help his students. During office hours he is unhelpful and ignorant about the personal lives and external stressors in his student's lives. 0/10 do not take his courses.
So out of all of my classes at Missouri state university, I do not know if I have struggled like this while trying my hardest. You have to go to class and if you are not a pre-law student, good luck getting a good grade for the first few quizzes. I like the professor, but he didn't get the memo that we are undergrad students, not lawyers.
You have to word things EXACTLY how he wants or get points off. You can explain in detail, but if youre missing certain words it doesnt matter. 3 quizzes, 2 tests, and 1 term paper so not much wiggle room. If youre not great at essay or short answer questions then I wish you the best of luck. Wouldnt take a class with him if I had a choice.
I just finished having Dr. Pybas for Constitutional Law I - "Powers & Constraints". The class itself is very interesting and you come away with a better understanding of the U.S. Constitution. Dr. Pybas is by no means an easy professor. You must show up to class and study a lot to come away with a passing grade.
I have taken two courses with Dr. Pybas. By far the most challenging courses I have taken in college, but also where I have learned the most. He pushes you to understand the material, not just memorize it. You can't put in minimal effort in the class and expect to do well. You have to read the cases and listen to the lectures to really keep up.
pros: - little homework - welcomes you to office hours cons: - lectures go on tangents a lot - very monotone. - textbook heavy, memorizing cases is the entire course
Dr. Pybas is by far one of the toughest professors in the Political Science department. If you are a Public Law minor, you have to take all three of his Constitutional Law classes. I loved his classes and learned a lot. Beware of memorization of cases, three quizzes, two tests, and a term paper (that's how all of his classes are set up).
His lectures were really boring so I stopped going to classes and tried to just read the textbook but that was boring too. Theres no winning you have to do both or else you won't do well. Dr. Pybas is a very quiet and monotone lecturer, there are no powerpoints, there is a list of what to study but like, idk where the material was coming from.
There are no other assignments in this class other than tests. There are no slideshows or anything to look at. He talks the entire class period, and it is hard to gather any information because he talks super quiet and is very monotone.
I personally am not very good at being graded solely on big exams. So it was hard for me to pass this class when 95% of your grade is based off of 4 exams. There is homework that takes 3 hours each and is only worth 5% of your grade.
I think every class I have been to this semester there is minimum 2 other students sleeping during class time. This is a very lecture heavy class on topics he is knowledgeable about. But are very very boring with no visual aid. He has a strict technology policy so you will be taking notes solely on paper. 4 tests are the only grade but now online.
From the poor reviews, I was worried to have him as a teacher but he's really a great guy. He doesnt use powerpoints so be prepared to pay close attention and read the material. Just show up to class and you'll do fine.
While it's not as interesting as the 517 section, it is not too bad. Dr. Pybas is great and helpful if you go to his office hours; don't wait until after the midterm to go. He's not a tough grader, just specific. You have to read the cases for class and pay attention because it is hard, so don't skip. It's only 3 quizzes, 2 exams, and a paper.
Pybas is made out to be a scary guy but, he is a nice man who just enjoys talking. He has a lot of knowledge of everything that he teaches, but get ready to go through a few pens for this class, he never stops talking and you never know what will be on the test. If you skip class, you will likely stuggle on the tests worth 95% of your grade.
I think Pybas is unfairly scrutinized by those unwilling to put effort into his classes. He is knowledgeable and not the mean old man he's made out to be. If you go to office hours, you'll see that he's a great dude, and while his courses are challenging, you will learn a lot. Tough, but fair. You'll get out what you put in. Love his ramblings too.
Really great professor. He is extremely knowledgeable and cares.
He expects a lot. Because he's super passionate. He wants his students to understand how our political system works and why it is the way that it is. Because it's super important to all of us, and understanding it makes all of us better. He's totally open to questions in or out of class. Be curious. Be invested. Do the homework. You'll do fine.
From what I have seen from my class with Dr. Pybas so far is that he is incredibly passionate about what he teaches and is extremely knowledgeable. In total there are 4 tests but as long as you show up to class with a pen to take notes you'll do fine. He makes good study guides and is perfectly willing to answer any questions if you have them.
It's not that I dislike Dr. Pybas, but he is very difficult to understand and agree with when it comes to his teaching. I learned quite a bit in his class, but I still would never take it again. We have four exams total, and that is pretty much your grade for the class. I wouldn't try to get others to avoid him, but I definitely wouldn't recommend.
I took his class at 8am and it was the worst thing ever. He is very monotone and has no emotion and also has no notes for you. Youre just listening to him talk for an hour. Your grade entirely consists of your exam scores so good luck. If you dont go to class you will miss important information that will on the test
Honestly, it wasn't a bad class. It was just a matter of notes were taken as he spoke, and most the time I couldn't keep up so I'd miss so much information. Grades are based off exams.. Roughly 50 questions worth 100 points. He's extremely dull in my opinion so it was hard to even stay focused in class.
He is very traditional in the way he teaches. He has a very monotone voice so try to have some caffeine before you go to class. He hates it when you have your phones and laptops out.
I learned a lot from this class and found Dr. Pybas to be a very knowledgeable teacher, but the class is definitely very lecture heavy, and he speaks quietly. Take notes and pay attention, as he doesn't use power points and doesn't write on the whiteboard often. As long as you show up to class and take notes you should pass just fine.
It's a really tough class. You're going to need to really read and understand the material. Class discussion is HUGE, and you are expected to participate. You will have to self-motivate, and you may start to feel resentful. However, when you earned that grade you worked hard for, it'll mean so much more. I'd recommend for the sake of challenge.
Dr. Pybas is a knowledgeable professor, but his lectures can be monotonous. Take notes and attend class to excel. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep - it helped me stay focused and understand key concepts.
I was scared to take this class after reading the reviews. Dr. Pybas is a teacher who is very knowledgeable. The current grading system is 85% tests (4 total) and 15% homework (online multiple choice). His lectures are hard to focus, but he gives a lot of information and is open for discussion. Be ready to only use pencil and paper in his class.
Great guy and knows what he is talking about, he also has some humor during lectures. But his lectures are extremely old school with nothing posted online and no study guides. Your notes and tophat questions are what you have to study with. Voice is very monotone which makes it really hard to pay attention to an already boring lecture.
This class is difficult, but you can manage it if you do the readings and focus in class. The quizzes (3) are pretty straightforward but the exams (2) are a shot in the dark in terms of how he phrases the questions. 1 paper and he graded those nicely, but don't wait till the last min to write it. I learned a lot but it wasn't worth the stress.
Dr. Pybas is very intelligent and informative and clearly shows a passion for his field. The tests WILL require studying all content from notes and the textbook, but if you just take a day or two, you can easily get an A or a B. Attendance is not required, but showing up will benefit you greatly! Fun guy, but outside of class resources are scarce.
Be ready for notes (laptop is permitted). Online reviews and the exams are the only points acquired in this class. Reviews are participation points, not accuracy. The exams are VERY lecture heavy. He only talks, and occasionally writes case law on the board, so be ready to write w/out references. Class attendance is SUPER encouraged, not required.
Dr. Pybas grew on me over the course of the semester; but he is not one I'd be excited to take again. His classes just require more work than I'm accustomed to. Plus, he is not the most charismatic or engaging of lecturers. He does have a sense of humor, if you pay enough attention to catch it. And he's a good person. I liked him by the end.
He speaks so quietly that I can't hear him from the back of the classroom, and he doesn't use PowerPoint to support his lecture
Dr. Pybas is one of the best professors I have had for a history class. If you pay attention in class and take notes, it is an easy pass. He is very sweet and funny. Make sure to read the textbook.
He makes the class unnecessarily difficult for a gen ed, its teaching style is not easy to follow nothing visual he just stands there and monologues and often asks people to look stuff up because hes not prepared and doesn't have any sort of notes. Avoid at all costs.
I personally don't do very well with political sciences in general, and I did struggle in this class because the only points you really get are from your exams. However, when I did reach out to Professor Pybas he was more than willing to help me. You need to start the semester off strong in his class. Don't believe it'll be easy
Almost ALL of your final grade is based on the tests in which there are no study guides or outlines for. You are tested mostly on his lectures which are unclear, monotonous, lack structure, and have no slideshow! For a required gen-ed class that EVERYONE has to take, it is unnecessarily inconvenient and does not set you up for success.
His classes can be hard if you haven't taken one before. For any Con Law class, you need to memorize the facts, rule of law, and rationale of every case to do well on the quizzes/exams. He's also the prelaw advisor, so if you are interested in law school, it's good to take his class. **Beware of cold calls!!!
This class is reading heavy, and he doesn't give a lot of instruction to new students on how to analyze court cases properly. As long as you pay attention to his lectures and come to class prepared you should be okay. Using outside case briefs to understand the cases is super beneficial, especially if you are new to his classes.
I found his lectures to be engaging, although he has a very dry sense of humor and may not be to everyone's taste. His grade is almost entirely based on tests, which I found to be fairly straightforward as long as you paid attention to his lectures and use the practice exams. He has a deep knowledge of the topic and enjoys interactions in class.
