Great teacher! You can't slack on the HW, use the lab! Print the chapter power-points before class, do the reading, and you should do great! It's easy to pass if you do what he says and stay on top of things.
Very solid professor. He loves teaching and it really shows in his work. His tests are the majority of the grade and they are hard but fair. He teaches the material very well and lets you know what will be on the test.
Print out the slides, do the homework, study HARD for his quizzes (this will also save time studying for his tests) and you'll be fine. Tests are tough, but manageable. Great professor and an asset to UVU!
Very hard professor! He only briefly mentions concepts in class but expects you to know them inside and out. If you can't learn from reading out of a text book, take from another teacher. Wouldn't recommend him.
Teacher makes this class unnecessarily hard. It seems like he is trying to fail as many students as possible instead of trying to teach. Take from another teacher. Because of him I may be changing my major. Not uplifting or motivating. Oh yeah and all he talks about is how he graduated from BYU and how the students at UVU are not as good at BYU.
Awesome Teacher! This class is extremely hard. He expects you to know concepts not just understand. Final was too hard in my opinion because there wasn't enough time. He challenges his students by expecting a lot from them. Highly recommend if you want to work hard to really understand subject and go further in accounting.
Professor Smith does an incredible job teaching this class. It is difficult, but very fair. There is a certain amount that you need to know to get an A in this course and he doesn't lower the bar, but will help you over it. If you understand the study guides and go over his PPTs in detail, you do ok. A good intro professor is needed to be ready.
VERY HARD TEACHER! Not very respectful of his students. He always says to come and talk to him if you have any trouble understanding the content but when you ask him questions he completely talks down to you and treats you like you're dumb. I'm considering changing my major because of him. He's very discouraging!
Horrible teacher! Stay away from him!
This is the only man teaching 3010 Accounting so if you want to move on in accounting you have to go through this guy. VERY HARD. There is a definate clash of teaching and learning styles. He Does not care about the success or failure of the student.
Previous comments are confusing to me. Yes, the class is hard but Dr. Smith is not out to get you. He DOES want you to succeed - you just need to put in the effort. An A is definitely possible. The exams are hard but if UVU wants their accounting program to be taken seriously IT MUST HAPPEN!
Obviously you are going love this guy or you will not like this guy at all. His class is very hard. There are no study guides available. You are expected to know every jot and tittle of the book, slides, and lectures including the concepts. No intro class or prereq has prepared you for this class.
His class is hard but he is not out to get you. I liked that he didn't lower the bar for students. His test are hard but not confusing. Take advantage of extra problems he posts and study old quizzes. I found the chapter outlines very useful when doing my readings. This class prepares you for 3020 better than 2010 and 2020 did for 3010.
Sounds like Smith is doing some evaluating of his own. A student that makes it this far in college (3010 level) has actually worked hard to get to this class, and complaints from students at this level are valid. This is the second professor I clashed with in my 120+ credit hours at this school. This is a long hard no help from professor semester.
Man, I am not Smith & I will say that I am taking his class right now & he is great. I came to UVU already knowing what a good program is like & the profs here at UVU, esp the newbs, are continually challenging & making the program better. You should be happy these kind of profs are here. What did you think acct was? Bookkeeping & 8th grade math?
Extremely hard class No extra credit and no curve. Absolutely brutal. Expect 3 hour test minimum. Smith is a funny and good teacher but is extremely hard and strict This class is insane and smith isn't very helpful. Professor smith had a lot of errors he created on tests and homework so you will spend even more time pulling your hair out.
Extremely frustrating how HW and quiz's are all A's and B's and then tests are a class high of mid 70's. He made a mistake on nearly every quiz or test he gave. Nice guy, but he expects more out of his students then he does himself. I had a hard time trying to figure out if it was an ego thing for him. TOUGH CLASS!!
Nearly half the class failed. Not much more to say. Good luck!
I HAVE TO AGREE WITH PREVIOUS COMMENTS, IT DOES SOUND LIKE HE IS EVALUATING HIMSELF. HE'S ALSO A VERY POOR TEACHER. NICE GUY, BUT OVERBEARING. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND.
Wants perfection from students and expect them to know everything with no exception, however his quizzes, homework, and tests are filled with errors he didn't fix. Breezes over topics and concepts that are covered in midterms so you will spend a lot of time studying them with no professor help. UVU, please get some more intermediate acc profs!
Smith knows his stuff, but forgets that he's there to teach. I was very disappointed in his lack of interest in the success of his students. There were issues with every test and quiz. UVU needs more options for Intermediate Accounting professors. This guy is the gate keeper for accounting degrees, and he knows it.
Smith is a great teacher and is doing UVU a favor by making the accounting program more difficult. I was able to breeze through the beginning levels but not through Smith's class. It takes time and work to achieve a high grade. If you don't like him because the class is difficult, switch majors. We don't need lazy fools in the school of business.
Professor smith is a huge asset to uvu! Great teacher and very knowledgable about the subject. Very challenging class but I'm better off because of it. I do however, feel he can talk down to you if you don't get it right away. I passed his class and all I had to do was actually understand the concepts. Not easy but loved the challenge.
This guy is nice, but doesn't teach to the level he tests on. I don't think any student who's made it to this level is a lazy fool(like some other post states). He seems preocupied with outside issues and reads directly off the slides. I liked his personality, but he doesn't teach to the level that he tests at and that alone makes this course HARD.
Not sure about other students posts here. Seems like self evaluations to me. There was a huge gap between 2020 and 3010 and no mercy from Smith.
I cannot believe some of the ratings for this professor! Kevin has been my FAVORITE professor here at UVU. He's demanding, but overly fair. If he taught 3020, I would have taken it from him. Don't listen to these other reviews. Attend class, do the homework and you'll do great!
Prof. K. Smith was very intimidating at first. I was convinced I'd fail, I almost dropped the class. I decided to stay in it and have learned a lot. You'll do great IF you go to class, read his slides, complete the homework/handouts, and take his quizzes(quizzes are easy). I wish he taught more courses. He's great.
Probably one of the best professors I have had. Very clear and helpful. If you aren't interested in learning the material then don't take him. If you go to class and read the slides you will do great. Overall I really enjoyed his class.
Speaks and lectures well, but his exams are the most brutal things I have ever experienced! If your not a BYU wannbe-brainiac, take accounting at another school, cause he's the only option. Got my C- but it was charity from the instructor cause he knew i busted my butt trying.
Great professor with a fun personality. Clearly loves Accounting. If you go to class, take notes and follow the slides & his lectures, and do the homework, you should do fine. Doesn't make exceptions for students who miss exams for one reason or another, so don't plan vacations in the middle of the semester (duh).
Keeps class lively. Very good about accomodating students' needs and making sure they understand material before moving on. Homework was all onlin and tests were not bad if you actually tried. Not an easy A but i enjoyed the class.
Fantastic teacher. Really cares. Extremely difficult tests at testing center. Attend class, take notes, get good grades on easy quizzes and homework, and pray for a B-
This guy is great. I love his teaching style, and he took plenty of time out of class to help me out personally. That being said, he might have sadistic tendencies. I've never worked so hard in any class, and never gotten my butt kicked so bad. He's the most difficult professor I've ever had. But he makes up for it by teaching what you need.
Loved him. Goes over everything you need to know for exams in class using powerpoint. You don't even need the book; you can study from his slides. His passion for accounting is contagious.
This class is for accounting majors and if you don't want to know all the ins and outs of the material then you should get a certificate from Provo College in 8 months. This class is challenging and time consuming but he is fair and explains things well. UVU needs difficult profs or our degrees will never be worth more than the paper they are on.
You won't find a better accounting professor at uvu. Tough material but he is such a good teacher. Go to class, study the slides, study examples from class and your good. Don't focus too much on homework. Tests are tough, but put in your time on those things and you'll be good.
His enthusiasm for the subject is contagious. Accounting is really dry and he actually made me want to learn the information. If you attend class, you really don't even need to read the text. Everything you need to know for the tests is presented clearly in class and is on his slides (available online). This is how he teaches all his classes.
He was very helpful in the class lectures, always answering questions. He provided quick and helpful feedback whenever I needed it, whether by email or in person. Class time is mandatory, but if you go to class, you don't really need to study the textbook; it helps, but he is very thorough in classroom instruction.
Wonderful professor. He really knows the subject and is passionate about it. The only downside is that he uses a homework program called WileyPlus that is tough to use and very time consuming. I would recommend this professor to anyone that wants to push themselves to learn the subject material.
I thought he was very helpful. I enjoyed that he made it an assignment to go see him in his office. It gave a more personal feeling to the class. He is enthusiastic about the subject and it helped make me want to go to class. MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND CLASS! It is very easy to get behind. Overall good experience in the class!
Very great teacher. It is not easy. He definetly challenges you and makes you learn all the material. Expect to learn alot if you take his class.
Professor Smith is great! He gives really great lectures and is really clear on his expectations for his students. His TA's are really helpful and he is always willing to help too. I enjoyed his class so much I am taking 2020 from him.
Good teacher and very helpful. He teaches clearly and he gives practical examples. He has a good sense of humor which keeps it from getting boring.
Prof. Smith has a great sense of humor. I struggled with his class but I was in a large class (about 100 students). I felt as though he was distant from his students which is NOT my learning style. Great guy but I don't recommend his class
I have never been so pleasantly surprises with a class, or professor, in all my time in school. It is by no means easy. Plan on putting in the effort and time. Professor Smith explains things with such a clarity. He is readily available for help. He knows how to keep a class entertained while still teaching. Tough class, but I learned a lot.
Pro. Smith is great. He makes accounting interesting, which is hard to do. You do need to go class, if you miss the lectures you can easily fall behind. There is homework in Wiley Plus, but do not use the home work for study guides for quizzes or tests. If you use your quizzes as study guides you should be fine.
Hard class but great professor. He gave you all the info you needed and really seemed to want everyone to understand the material. I don't do well with large classes but I didn't mind with this professor. Attend every class and find some study buddies. Only dislike was the wording for test questions, often confusing.
Very difficult class. Get ready to memorize many many journal entries and tests that take very long to finish. Last week of class were spent talking about possible helpful future financial tips instead of reviewing the plethora of information needed for the final which entailed the entire course. Refused to narrow down possible material for final
Expects a lot of work to be put forth for just an entry level course (on par with upper division courses). The section I had catered a lot to accounting majors & taught to them, so if you just need it as a general business credit, go elsewhere.
Very hard material. Hardest tests I've ever taken. Great lecturer and very approachable and personable teacher. He is one of two professors that will teach you lots of accounting and give good base to go on. If you want course for just one semester for other major and don't care if you learn anything, take another professor.
Kevin is a great teacher. He expects a lot from students but will give you all the resources you need to succeed. Difficult and long tests but you will learn the material.
Professor Smith is a great instructor. His stnadards for students is high but everything in the course is fair. He has been more than just a teacher for me but has become a friend. His class atmosphere is relaxed in some degrees. Expect to be pushed but also expect to be believed in by Professor Smith.
You will learn way more about basic accounting than you thought you could. It's a very difficult class but the online homework setup (McGraw Hill) made it pretty easy to learn. There are at least 3 assignments every week. TESTS TAKE 2 HOURS+ and will make you want to cry, but if you keep up on the additional hw you'll be ready. Pro. Smith is great.
This teacher is always well-prepared. His lessons are clear, and he offers a lot of help so you can do well. He is excellent at understanding what students will struggle with understanding and how to explain difficult concepts in a way that strikes home. Sometimes he goes a little too fast, but overall he has a good pace.
Professor Smith is probably the best lecturer I've had in four years at UVU. While he lectures, he has the ability to look at faces to see if there is understanding and to adapt his lecture on the fly. The course is rigorous, but well worth taking. Just don't get behind. Keep up and do work and you will do fine.
I really appreciated the two semesters that I had with Professor Smith. I learned an incredible amount of accounting. His lectures are great! Read the text before class, listen to the lecture, and don't be afraid to ask questions. He also has lots of opportunities for review. If his class sizes were smaller that would be even better!
Professor Smith is hands down the best teacher I have had at UVU. When I went into his class I thought it would be boring. However, Kevin has the unique ability to make accounting interesting and understandable. Make sure to do the all the homework and come to class. His tests are a beast but If you understand the material you will get an A.
Prof. Smith wants his students to learn how to think through problems. Understanding the material is important to him, but his teaching methods help prepare his students for life.
Great teacher! I don't test well, so this class was weighed heavily on tests and therefore hurt my grade. If you do the homework, you will understand. Use the accounting lab as well. Awesome class!
Kevin Smith is one of the best professors I've had at UVU. I Hated my first accounting class, but Kevin made 2020 a completely different experience. He was clear on what he expects, which is a lot, but he ensures you have all the help you'll need to be successful in the class. Don't fall behind and you'll love the class.
Mr. Smith is one of the best teachers I have ever had. If you put in the work, ask questions and use the accounting lab, you can't go wrong. I found myself more interested in accounting than I thought I'd be because he presents it in such an understandable way. I wish he taught other subjects. His teaching style is awesome.
it is interesting class and the teacher is helpful as long as you ask question. If you can finish the homework without problem, you will be fine take this class.
He will say, "my class isn't easy but it's because I want you to learn". I'd say the hard part of accounting, and his class, is truly practice. Find the time to practice the homework questions and visit the Accounting lab to get some questions answered. He has true concern for his class's learning and understanding. I learned lots.
Take it from someone else if you are a full time student and work. Lectures are not helpful with the exams.
Tons of work! However, if you do the homework you should be well prepared for the exam because you will have gone over the material many times. Prof. Smith makes the lectures interesting too. Could be much worse for an accounting course, and I learned a ton.
Professor Smith's MBA class was hard, but well worth it. He is extremely knowledgeable and provides good constructive feedback.
Kevin Smith is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. You will not regret taking this class from him as he is the best 3010 teacher UVU has to offer. If I was comparing him to a professional baseball player, he would be up there with Nolan Ryan.
Professor Smith's class is hard but you learn the material well. He pushes his students and you'd be surprised at what you can accomplish. There's homework for every chapter. There were four tests (one was a review from 2010). If you try and you listen to his lectures, you'll do fine. Always review the slides before a test.
Professor Smith is the best teacher that I have had at UVU. He really goes above and beyond in every way. He is very organized and well prepared. He is challenging but very good at explaining the material. If you just put in the time, you will do well! He was very fair, always wanted to be fair to everyone in the class and help everyone achieve.
If you need to take accounting- take it from Prof. Smith! He knows his stuff and he knows how to explain it. He's really personable and makes the subject interesting. I would definitely recommend Prof. Smith
Very good teacher. But tests were moderately hard.
If you are serious about study and looking for the best Accounting professor at UVU, you must take acc 3010 with Kevin Smith. He will transmit you his knowledge clearly,in the way that you understand, and the times that you need. I RECOMEND this Professor.
I love his teaching style. He's tough but fair. The slides are where he gets most of the test questions. Show up to class everyday, and take good notes.
Is not an easy class, but you will for sure learn a ton. He sets you up to succeed as long as you pay attention. I fully recommend him to any student if you want to actually be effective in your job
This class was the hardest class I have taken at UVU so far. I enjoyed Kevin Smith as a teacher, he wasn't dry like a normal Accounting teacher. He actually has a personality. Whatever you do don't get discouraged and put in the work and you will end up with a good grade. I seriously studied for 20 hours for the tests! Hard work pays off though!
Great professor. Highly recommend him!
Proessor Smith is an old fashion teacher. He is very demanding in his class but he makes many mistakes on the tests. I was obsessed with accounting and got A on 2010 and 2020. I studied 10+ hours a week and got a C-, which is the lowest grade I have ever gotten. His jokes made me want to jump off the window ( if there were any). Avoid this man.
Best teacher. Make sure you understand the slides and the homework. Accounting classes are demanding and this is not the exception. I will really recommend this professor.
Kevin really teaches you the material well, but if you don't really study for the tests they can be pretty hard. Great teacher though and I recommend him if u want to learn and not just get an A.
His class will be difficult and require hard work. He sets high expectations but will help you achieve success in his class. It is partially because of Professor Smith that I became an accounting major. We need more professors like Professor Smith that will help take UVU to the next level. He is the best of the best.
Professor Smith is an amazing teacher. His tests are tough, but he really strives to help you understand accounting. I am not an accounting major, but he captured my attention and made me want to know how this could be applied to my career. Great professor. Really cares about his students. Wish he would teach 2020.
He is great. Very clear with his expectations. tests are tough.
Professor Smith is a great professor in that he loves what he teaches. He is very knowledgeable of the accounting subject. He treated his students fairly and is very willing to work with you. The only downside is that his tests are tough. I suggest intense study for the tests.
This professor is awesome! He explains the material really well and if he feels like he hasn't had enough time to teach the material he will change his test to only include what has been covered. The class is hard but it gives you the opportunity to decide if accounting is right for you. This is one of my favorite professors.
He is a greater teacher and is very clear. He gives you every chance to succeed, it's up to you to do the work. His exams are hard but if you study the material you can be successful. His class is tough, but you will know the material afterwards. Would recommend this class to anyone. Good professor.
I wish he could have taught the rest of my classes. 1010 I would let Professor Smith rock my accounting world again.
Professor Smith is there to help if you need it The class is an upper division course and he DOES NOT CURVE! Pay attention to the break down of the final grade. There are a few assignments in the beginning of the semester that are more heavily weighted than you would expect. Over all a great class.
Kevin Smith is a great professor. He is very helpful and is good at teaching. He has high expectations of his students (which UVU needs more of). The course content makes it very hard to make the material really clear, but he does a great job. His tests are really difficult so spend most of your time studying for the test.
Kevin Smith makes you earn your grade but he gives you all the options, tools, and opportunities to be successful.
He explains the material clearing and makes accounting interesting! Take the class from him on-campus since he is not very good at answering e-mails.
He is very passionate about accounting and knows his stuff. The problem is that he tests on stuff different than he teaches in class and the tests are the whole grade. Doesn't seem too fair to me. This is coming from someone that has gotten an A and B in his classes.
Professor Smith is very well respected as a professor. Although his classes are difficult and he makes you actually learn the subject matter (I know, imagine that, right?), I've enjoyed his classes more than any other on campus. He cares about his students and gives them every opportunity to succeed.
He's the best teacher I've had in college. I love accounting and he has made an incredibly hard class doable and understandable. Hard and fair grader. Totally willing to spend significant time explaining things that students may not understand. Rocks!
This is the best teacher that i have ever had at UVU. Of course so many students say that it's a hard class, but you definitely understand the materials in this class. So, it's your job to do the work to get ready for the exams because they are tough. Therefore, don't be scared to take it from him just be ready for extra work.
Pro. Smith is great! His classes are worth your time so make sure to go every time. Tests are more difficult, but he gives an A if you get 90% or above which is awesome! He knows a lot about accounting and is willing to help you outside of class.
Prof. Smith is great. His class is just lecture, but he makes it entertaining. He is always willing to help and wants his students to succeed. The only negative comment I have is that his tests are HARD. I understand they aren't supposed to be easy, but they are unnecessarily hard. Also the tests are pretty much your entire grade.
Prof. Smith really knows what he is talking about and does a great job of breaking it down so that it is understandable. His tests are very hard though and you really have to study hard to get a good grade on them. He provides a lot of extra material though so that you can practice and be better prepared for the tests.
Everything you hear is true. Gives the right amount of homework which is great, not too much just enough. Tough tests, Great video tutorials, very clear.
He knows the material well and gave good examples in class. Sometimes he seemed a little negative about the ability of the students to learn the material . He talks a little fast in the Out of Class Activity videos. In class he goes through the material a little fast too, sometimes. He is an okay teacher overall.
High respect to Pro Smith. Study his powerpoints, watch his OCA videos and do your hw and you'll do fine. You "WILL" learn in his class. Although my exam scores don't reflect how much I have learned, I can genuine say that every effort, time and headaches I put into this class was well worth it. Sleepless nights was also worth it. No regrets !!!
I learned so much from Professor Smith. It was definitely not easy but so worth it.
Professor Smith really gives you the information and time to pass the class. There is a lot of work but all of it really prepares you for the exams. He makes sure that you know the how and the why of each concept.
Kevin is a great professor. He has learned how to teach to specific needs of the students and is great at showing how to avoid common errors.
Great Class, Great Professor
He puts quite a few video lectures online that will save your bacon. Record his lectures with your computer or iPhone so you can refer back to it during your homework and test studying times. His tests are fair, but not easy. He is more than willing to help if you ask. At the end of the day, I desperately wish he would teach all classes at UVU.
Professor Smith expects a lot out of his 3010 students. If you aren't solid on your 2010 material, you will have a very tough time in his class. However, He gives you plenty of practice problems and clearly identifies what you should study and gives plenty of videos, so you really have no reason not to pass.
His tests are tough! He wants the student to understand the material and so he throws some curve balls in the tests, knowing that you may not know what to do--that is super frustrating for me. I wish he had something for students to prove their learning and pass the class even if they don't test well. Prof. Smith is funny and a good teacher.
This is not an easy class as the instructor pushes you to learn, but if you do the work, this class is worth every penny! If you need clarification, take your questions to the instructor via email, office hours, after class, or the business lab and you can and will succeed.
Professor Smith is very down to earth and really wants you to succeed. He'll tell you straight up what to expect and tries to make his lectures a little less dry by putting some humor into them.
Great teacher, willing to help, but pushes your boundaries to the next level. He makes you work, but if you are willing and wanting to learn a lot about accounting, he is the guy. Continually tries to improve his teaching style, which is not a drab "typical" accountant method. Take notes, ask questions, and work in groups, and you'll do fine.
Professor Smith is tough. I actually retook his class after getting a C the first go around. The second time I actually studied and did well on the tests. Seriously take the day off from work and devote 10 to 15 hours per test. You will get a good grade if you do that.
Pro Smith is easily the best accounting teacher at UVU. He takes a hard subject and makes it fun while clearly explaining all you need to know. Your final grade pretty much comes from your test scores, so make sure to prepare for his tests as much as you can. I took this class during the summer and it was an overload of material, but well worth it!
There is a lot of Homework but if you stay on top of those then you should be well prepared for the tough exams in the class. If you come prepared to class, then you'll be able to get more out of the lectures.
The class I took was a Hybrid Format. (Online and in class). I think Kevin did a great job of posing material well in advance, making sure we knew his expectations, and helping us understand the material. He is also honest the first day of class (I am in 3010) that it is not an easy subject. That being said, It was not as hard as I expected.
I really enjoyed his class. He is great to work with if you have any issues. I really like the way he does test. You take up to 6 tests in this class, but you have less material to worry about. I really like that about this class.
Kevin does a great job teaching. He knows his stuff and he is willing to help his students in and out of class. Do the learn smarts & homework and study for the test and you will do fine.
I enjoyed having the opportunity to ask questions in class and your respectfulness in responding to those questions. The only thing I would change is exam reviews, a better idea of what is on the exams.
Professor Smith has really hard test, but he prepares you for them. He is there for you for sure. Pay attention in class and you will do pretty well. It may be important to try and bring him back on subject because he can get really distracted with student questions; he is talking about the subject but not about the homework or tests.
Great teacher, but not everything that is put in the test is covered in class, in the homework, or in the learn smart reading. Tests are hard
I have been very impressed by Professor Smith this semester. I have taken many accounting classes; however, none have left me with such a profound understanding of the curriculum. I would highly recommend taking accounting from him, although the tests are hard you will understand the topics.
Such a solid teacher. He really cares about the success of his students. His tests are fairly difficult, but if you do the homework and go to class you should do fine. Seriously, if he were teaching the next class I would immediately take it from him again!
Very knowledgeable professor. Cares that the students learn and especially understand the material. This was a had course but makes it very possible to get a good grade.
Very good, very fair. He makes power-points that are very simple to understand, so you don't need the book. He's tries not to give trick questions, and goes over what you need to study before, after the test he goes over the questions the class got wrong.
Professor Smith is a fair professor. If you are looking to get through the class on extra-credit, you will want to avoid this teacher. He does everything that he can to prepare you for the tests. Use every minute in class to ask questions and thoroughly understand the material. If you do this, you will be fine.
Hard class but rewarding. He is a great teacher who cares about his job and helping you succeed. Tests are hard so study up! No cramming. He let you skip the final if you liked your grade right before it. Great teacher, tough class.
Very tough class, especially the test. You will get an A if you put the effort in and really study for the test. Great class and very helpful, I learned alot.
He is a good teacher. He is funny, helpful, and explain well but his tests are tough and there are a few questions that he does not explain it in class. you have to study materials he didn't explain in class and some of it will be in the test. He is the only teacher for for ACC 3010 so you don't have any choice
Don't get scared off by Harriet's Hats. Utilize the tutoring center to help you complete it. Once you're done, it will become very clear how important that assignment is to your success in the class and you will be glad you did it.
Kevin Smith is a great Professor. His class always went by quickly because we were always working on examples or discussing topics, not just listening to him lecture. He prepares you well for the homework. The Tests are tough. Overall learned a lot from him. Recommend!
Hi explain very well but you need to work hard for his exam and he nice guy if you go to his office he always say welcome even hi doesn't office hour just knock his door.
Great teacher, on more than one occasion he helped me one on one with homework until I understood completely. I appreciated that he wasn't insistent that you had to solve a question "his way." He was more interested in students understanding principles than methods. Definitely a tough course though, plan on a big project. Lowest test gets dropped.
He knows accounting very well but is able to dumb it down so everyone can understand. He goes at your pace and answers all questions. I will take ACCT 2020 from him for sure. As far as accounting goes, he is probably the best teacher to take it from.
Dr. Smith is an awesome professor. If you pay attention, participate, and put in the work, you will leave with a higher-level understanding. He guides the class to solutions of hard questions rather than telling you the answer. I hope I have the opportunity to take him again. He's also really funny, which makes a sometimes dry subject enjoyable.
My class was a hybrid one, he did everything he could to help you pass since we only actually had class once a week. He posted multiple lecture videos for each class that followed the power points he provided, they were super helpful to help pass his tests.
Professor Smith is still by far my favorite professor I have had at UVU. He makes class fun and does all he can to help his students to truly understand the concepts and not just memorize them. As already mentioned numerous times, his tests are hard. Do the HW, study his slides, take good notes, do everything at least twice, and you'll do fine.
I really liked the hybrid class. The chance to go through the videos as many times as needed and pause when needed was great, liked having a lecture available whenever you needed it.
I recommend the hybrid class. Professor Smith gives you the resources you need. He is very passionate about the subject and explains it very well. His tests are not near as hard as everybody says they are.
He is a solid teacher here at UVU and I have had him twice now. He doesn't give any study guides! Which means you have to rely heavily on the homework to study for exams. But he really is a good teacher and if you pay attention in class than you will do relatively well.
Professor Smith, in my opinion, is one of the better professors I have had because he is consistent and fair. The expectations are clear; yet, when he makes mistakes he is understanding and flexible. His lectures, when coupled with the online videos were very helpful. His teaching style is clear and very much to the point. I highly recommend him.
Great teacher. Material can be tough but he is incredibly skilled at making things simple to understand, and helps students get it. Very helpful in class and willing to help. According to UVU's online statistics he gives out more A's than other 3010 profesor's though he was surprised to hear that.
Kevin Smith is a wonderful professor. His material and class outline is difficult, but he is very willing to help. Harriet's Hats is very time-consuming but will kickstart you for the rest of the course. The homework does not take long to complete, but his tests can be very demanding. This is a hard class but you will learn a lot from his teaching.
Professor Smith Is a great teacher. He teaches clearly and actually cares about his students success and well being. He is willing to give extra help if you need it. Professor smith also has a good sense of Humor. The only negative thing I could say is that his tests seemed to be overly complicated. Curveballs in every test. Reviews are vague.
Professor Smith is the best professor I have had at UVU. He respects his students and loves to explain concepts and difficult problems. His tests take a lot of preparation but he provides a lot of content on canvas to study and prepare.
Kevin Smith is an amazing professor and you owe it to yourself to take a class from him. As far as difficulty goes, I found his 3010 class pretty par for the course. The material is more difficult, but he is an absolute master at getting you to where you need to be. There is a clear path to victory here, and if you apply yourself you'll get an A.
If you listen during class you will find accounting to be more interesting and achievable than you thought. Read through the slides and understand the homework and you will do great.
Great teacher, one of the best I've had. He breaks down complicated material and makes it very understandable. Very respectful of student's questions. Taking his class will help you have a solid understanding of accounting. It's a hard class but if you put forth a little effort you'll learn the material.
By far the best professor I have had at UVU. Thoroughly enjoyed going to class. Hard course, but very doable, and professor Smith will go to various lengths to ensure that you understand the material.
Kevin Smith is the best teacher at UVU. His teaching style is very clear. Don't be afraid to ask questions during lectures, he respectfully answers you. I sat up front every class and engaged in the lesson. If you can don't take notes just listen and engage. Do the test banks. For the Harriet's hats assignment get started early. Don't fall behind.
I had 2 jobs when I started and wasn't doing too well by the 2nd exam. Prof. Smith met with me during his office hours and gave me some tips and on my own plans to improve. At the end of the semester, we met again to prep for the final. I am waiting for my grades to come out, but it looks like I got an A after all! His videos on Canvas are great!!
I loved Kevin Smith. He was absolutely awesome. Though the course is tough and his exams are tougher, I learned so much in his class.
This class is tough to understand, but professor Smith does a good job at explaining all of the concepts. The tests are very hard, but if you study hard and don't miss class too much, you will do fine on them! Homework was all online and I never had to use the textbook!
I lucked out and got to have Kevin be our teacher for 4020, which is usually not taught by him. Professor Smith will go out of his way to make sure the class is understanding the material. He is a caring professor and will do everything he can to help you succeed. Like any 4000 level class, the tests are not easy. Be prepared to study.
An absolute life saver! About a month before finals, he took over the accounting class I was in. He told us he would be fair in his grading due to the circumstances. He really knows his stuff and is such a great teacher. I honestly can't thank him enough for what he did.
Professor Smith is great at clearly and simply explaining the course material. The class is not very difficult to understand, especially if you already have a business background. Prof. Smith gives so many exam prep materials (practice homeworks and testbanks) that include the actual questions from the test. Great and easy class.
Professor Smith is an excellent teacher! He cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He is very thorough in making sure the students understand the concepts. Accounting is not an easy class but he provides all the resources to be able to do well in his class.
He does a good job at explaining the material. He wants to make sure that we just don't know the material, but that we know how and when to use the material. He is always ready to answer questions and wants everyone to do well. There was a couple times when the majority of the class didn't understand a question on the test, so he just removed it.
He is a great teacher but he is difficult. Don't skip class, make sure you study a LOT. He curves it enough that there's really no way to not pass unless you don't go to class. He is very helpful and is available for office even before and after office hours for those who have busy schedules.
He was plenty accessible both inside and outside of class. He was very willing to take the extra time to help explain concepts that weren't grasped immediately. The requirements for the course were well laid out and very clear. If you go to class and participate in any way whatsoever, you will succeed in his classes.
He is AWESOME
Class is really important, but he will tangent a lot. He cares enough to spend an hour teaching one student; unfortunately, the rest of us just wasted an hour. There is consistent homework, which is not too hard. Test grades are pretty important, but the tests are pretty simple if you know the material.
He really ensures that you understand the material. He is the department chair which to me shows he has earned his place, he truly cares, and he devotes his passion to this! He is the best accounting professor. He is very good at teaching and if you pay attention, do the work and try you will do will in the class.
He loves to help students which isn't a bad thing, but the questions the students had were way off topic or really basic questions that they should have read in the chapter that was assigned before class. The students who did the reading should not have to sit through a ten minute answer for a question that should be addressed outside of class.
11/10 class! Highly recommend!! Professor Smith has been an amazing teacher! The content is difficult (I mean it's accounting for goodness sakes) but he was so clear on what he expected. The homework was directly related to the tests, so everything had a purpose. His lecture videos were very well done. Thanks to him, I actually enjoyed class
I took his class online and it was great. He provides lots of lecture videos to teach the concepts. The class is through McGraw Hill. Each week there is the chapter reading, then homework, that lets you check your work unlimited times, and 3 exams plus a final. 1 exam score will be dropped so I didn't even have to take the final exam.
Loved this class, I had him for accounting and he was able to make a seemingly boring subject not only interesting but easy to understand. I took the class online and rather than just telling us to read the chapters, he made lecture videos for us, only totaling about an hour for each week. These were super helpful.
I had to take this class online because of Covid, and was very scared going in because I would've much rather had in person. Despite that, he did a great job of making sure we understood everything! Tons of office hours and drops your lowest test score, homework, and quiz so if you have a good enough grade, you don't have to take the final!
Professor Smith is an awesome professor. Taking accounting online wasn't ideal, but he made sure to give us all of the resources in order to succeed. He held office hours and created lecture videos for each chapter. He reminded us of exams. He drops our lowest scores. Recognizes we aren't going to be acc majors but makes sure we know material.
He was great! Always curved the tests and let us not take the final if we wanted to drop it. He made it possible to get whatever grade you want and had some very helpful videos. I would highly recommend him for accounting!
Is a very good teacher and wants you to do your best. I would take his class again.
He explains things well. Easy class.
Really nice teacher and really cares for his students. He also loves accounting, which is a plus. The class is difficult, but he is open to help which is very nice.
He was so nice and helpful the whole class. I would not have passed without his videos breaking down the harder material. I would say the class was more focused on basic understanding of accounting then the math of it all. So when studding make sure to understand principals and technical terms.
His class is very well put together. Follow the modules and watch the short videos and this should be an easy A. If you do bad in this class, it is 100% your fault.
This professor did a great job for it being a harder class. I'm not good at accounting but I feel like he was always willing to help and very approachable for it being an online class. He gives you all the resources you need and there is a variety of different ways to learn the material.
Can't say enough good things about Professor Smith. Even though I took this class online, I knew exactly what I needed to do at all times and he is INCREDIBLY organized. The success of his students matters to him and he checks in weekly so students are up to speed. This class and subject are difficult, but he makes it easier. Great professor!
I took professor smith for intro to the accounting profession and his class was very easy, but had lots of valuable information about the accounting profession. Very straight forward class and you can work at your own pace which is nice.
I wish Professor Smith could teach all my accounting courses! He makes an effort to get to know each student personally and is very accessible and approachable outside of class. He is very accommodating. He drops one test so if you are happy with your grade going into the final, you don't have to take it.
Professor Smith was great. He was always so eager to help me struggle through the material and the only reason I didn't get a better grade in this class was that I did not reach out enough. Lectures can get cut short and sometimes it's on your own to learn new material but it's because he is so thorough on the things he does cover.
ACC 2125 is designed to be an easy class. Got it done in about two weeks. Can't say much on the professor because the class was completely self-directed but I spoke with him briefly and he was very encouraging and respectful. I've heard good things about him for other courses so
Course can be hard but he is great. Super fun and totally ready to help and work with you and help you get an A. He's great.
Prof Smith is a great teacher. He expects a lot out of his students, but really cares that you learn the material. Pay attention to lectures and do the homework and practices.
Professor Smith is great. He has a very deep knowledge of accounting and is able to answer almost any question you might have. His class is very dependent on you understanding material that he presents. Plan on being in person for the best experience there. He pushes his students hard, but is also very available outside of class to help out.
Professor Smith is a good teacher, but this is a tough class. We have lots of homework and 5 tests with a verbal exam. He does drop one test, which is nice. Sometimes he doesn't get through all the material and that puts pressure on the students to catch up on their own time which can be frustrating. He's a pretty good professor.
What impressed me the most about Professor Smith was his genuine care for their students' success. He was always approachable and willing to provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback. Whether during office hours or via email, he consistently went above and beyond to ensure that students received the assistance they needed.
One of my favorite professors. Not an easy class, but he explains everything very well during lectures. You have a good chance for success if you attend class. Very knowledgeable and passionate about accounting. He really cares about his students and is available and willing to help.
I thought Professor Smith was excellent! He's eager to help you if you're struggling. It's one of the more challenging accounting classes, but accounting isn't necessarily an easy subject anyway. Tests account for a big portion of your grade so do the practice homework, go over the exam review, and review the slides and you should be fine.
Professor Smith is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's really good at what he does. I recommend that you ALWAYS go to class. He is really good at answering questions.
He is so amazing, he teaches in a way that anyone can understand. He really cares abt the students and will help you if you ask for it. I would take it from him again
Prof. Smith is really a great instructor. The course is difficult. It moves quickly and you can get behind easily. Nevertheless, he was up front about that from the beginning and regularly updated students about it. He has the rare mix of being very content knowledgeable and also a very good instructor. He genuinely cares abt his students success.
3010 is not an easy class but it is not a level 5 difficulty either. Attending class and doing the homework assignments is a must. I think going over the lectures slides many times helped me prepare for the exams.
Professor Smith clearly cares very much about his students. 3010 is not an easy class, but he is there to make sure everyone who wants/needs help has what they need. He will warn you that his tests are difficult which is true, but if you understand the concepts well you will do great. I absolutely loved having him as my professor.
He is a good professor, cares about the students. The material can be hard but he has resources to teach out for help. Would recommend taking his class
Professor Smith is a caring and knowledgeable instructor. ACC3010 is challenging, but he's upfront about it and provides the support needed to succeed. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for test prep.
Lots of complex topics about consolidations. Mergers, acquisitions, etc. and the associated accounting for those transactions. Kevin puts a lot of effort into making sure his students understand the concepts. Homework is tough. Tests are in-person in class, and are tough, but if you understand the homework/in-class problems, you'll pass.
This class was rough. The professor seemed out of touch and like he didn't care about students. Most assignments were last-minute group work, making coordination hard. He often changed assignments unexpectedly, left early, didn't provide feedback, and ignored student input. It felt like he had other priorities and wasn't invested in the course.
Professor Smith is outstanding! Despite a rocky semester, stepping in last minute for the regular professor, and taking leave in the last month, he went to great effort to ensure we got lectures. Highly recommend him for ACC-3020 if he teaches again! Be prepared to study a lot, though, the topics in this class were pretty brutal.
This is a tough class and Professor Smith prepares you for it. He gives you the tools necessary to be successful in the class. I truly felt like he and I where on the same team. He is such a great teacher and a respected individual. I would love to take another class from him. Show up to class and study and you will be fine.
Exams are 75% of your grade, if you do bad on the first one, it is very very hard for you to recover and get the grade you want. This semester was rough, he was a fill in for a different teacher and then half way through the semester moved to online. He was not responsive to student's communication and we felt on our own to teach ourselves.
Exams are worth 75% of your grade. He is very willing to meet with you outside of class if you need help- however, I found it more beneficial to just study on my own. Nice guy but hard class!
