Very picky when it comes to marking.
really nice, good teacher, talks too much in lectures
Interesting class; kept me awake at 9:30 am; picky marker
a really smart guy, I learned a lot from this course
No Comments
Picky, and he'll ask you to aviod using "picky" because it's "negative word"

one of those guys who thinks his writing is better than everyone

This was one of the most useful business classes I've taken. Kevin is awesome!
Tough marker. Helpful class. Looks like he came right from an 80's sitcom..
nice guy, answers email fast, good class but difficult
No Comments
Kevin is very helpful and approachable...
Knows his stuff, but boring class. Always available to
No Comments
Difficult course, but very useful.

lectures were very long and drawn out. standards for marking were unclear.
Classes were painful, but a year later, still using techniques, thx Kevin!
picky prof, but extremely useful course... take it !!
smart, nice, tough marker, never stop talking in class, helpful
No Comments
Too much information. Extrememly useful class and decent lectures, but soooo much to learn. Pickiest marking ever come across.
Tough marker but definitely one of the best, most practical courses I've ever taken.
picky
Useful class but very very difficult. Really hurts the GPA.

a bit wordy
This is one of the best courses offered in the Business program and it truly delivers what it guarantees, i.e. that over the 13 weeks your writing skills improve. Kevin is an excellent Prof, with a great sense of humor. People say he's hard, I disagree.
the final was easier than i expect, just study his note, dun need to study from the textbook. just hate those pop quizzes. but u can surely learn a lot in this course.
So good, so easy, so good, so easy.
easy easy easy, people have been lying about how tough Stewart is.
lots of writing
Tough marker. But very helpful and has a good sense of humour! If you have a good group, it's not too difficult to get an A- overall. Don't be hurt if you only get a B- in your first assignment: you'll definitely go uphill from there on. Great class.
UGH!!!! I hate him and his corny as jokes. His class makes you realize how unimportant school is!
tons of work for this class and he is pretty hard. Be prepared. I hate the quizzes..is useless.
Very hard to approach and is quite unhelpful. Hate the class!
I am paying $600 to sit through this terrible course for 13 weeks. I want a refund.
I've learned so much from taking this course. The marking can be tough but the instructor is always reasonable and the class is overall very valuable. I hope people who can't speak english can actually start learning the language by taking this course.
A mean person. Follow his convention strictly instead of business convention.
The guy is not a fair marker. A+ paper in other sections get D- in this class.
If you are interested in learning how to speak English, take an ESL class.

why everybody not get back our report? he's so lazy and unfair
This class provides good practical skills necessary for communication in the corporate world.
A terrible instructor! He is unclear about his expectation. He always says that your paper is not professional and he has his own convention. Totally unapproachable.
Not a bad prof.. just a little bit too much work. Tends to be a little bit full of himself. However, you'll probably be able to take away something from his classes for use in the real world.
learn alot in his class. He has very specific expectations and requires you to write in a standard structure. I think this course is really helpful. However, his markings are quite hard. Overall pretty good prof
At the beggining I thought he was great...now after 3 months in the class i'm not so sure. Not clear as to what he wants. Has his own convention which he does not explain well. Too much time wasted in personal anecdotes that show how good he is instead of clarifying what he wants.
He clearly does know what he's talking about. What alot of people don't realize it that in business one tiny mistake can cost you big time. He makes you understand this and with a few C- assignments you'll pick it up quickly.
So bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the class is good but the prof is questionable. He's very boring and like others have said not helpful in terms of what he expects. I'd advise you to wait til someone else is teaching this class.

this class requires lots of writing, thatz fine but being marked by a VERY SUBJECTIVE prof, it becomes an issue; If your work doesn't meet his expectation(but you never know what he expects), and does not follow ALL the rules, then itz time to prepare for registering the class again.....
Although he's clear and he knows what he's talking about, he's SO ANAL about little things and you totally don't know what to expect from him until you get your grades back. He always tells stories to prove how successful he is, and he's very condescending towards the students like he's so superior. Overall, bad attitude / vibe from him.
Mr. Stewart knows his stuff, and will help you improve your writing if you really want to. Probably the hardest class I've taken, just follow examples to the dot, no creative formating, just understand conventions and use big words he gives you. Really good teacher, the class is something everyone needs whether you like it or not.
Very subjective, and he's not clear at all on how a mark is derived. I've done well in the class, so I guess I can't complain too much. Final exam was the easiest I have ever written in my life (spelling, grammar, vocab, simple MC). If i were to take it again, I wouldn't take it with him. He's frusterating to deal with.
he knows what he's talking about but he doesn't too a great job getting students to apply it the way he wants. take it with somebody else.
i just wanna say that...Kevin, our expectation in taking this course is to learn communication skills and apply them, not to experience an additional torture in gettin' used to your own teaching/grading method.
you don't get writing skills, at most you get passing BUS 360 skills.
Not useful at all. Loads of guideline sheets, unprofessional lecture slides, and many assignments. But no time to think about what you are doing. At the end, you know, more or less, how to write an assignment for Kevin, but you didn't get writing skills.
he is not helpful at all, grading is so subjective ....avoid him if you could
This prof always puts on a bad attitude, he takes his pride in punishing his students, as if this is his purpose for teaching. I just dont think he really qualifies as a instructor, strongly recommend him leaving the department and find another career.
The only course which i hate so much. The only prof that I think needs a lot more education on how to respect students.
Nothing good I would like to share.
Usefull class. Kevin teaches in a way that makes you actually do things and re-do them, which is great practice. Hard marker, quite demanding, even comparing to my boss at the office where i work. But, again, he strives for perfection in business writing and encourages students to do the same. Tough but worth it.
I despise his arrogance.
Marks really hard and gives too much work for a 3 credit course.
kevins class was the worst experience of my life, he is rude, unhelpful and unfair!
worst prof ever! unclear of his expectations, you pretty much figure them out as low marks roll in. trust me take it with another prof!
He's too picky about everything and I personally do not think his class is useful.
One of the worst proffessors I've ever had. Very unclear with his expectations, very picky. THe only good examples of writing he could give were his own, even when giving previous work as examples of how assignments should be done, he later told us that these examples were not good and we shouldn't use them as templates or guides
Great teacher. Hard course. I thought he was extremely clear with his requirements. He made an extensive amount of help available to the students. As long as you've got decent writing skills, and are willing to change bad habits, you'll do fine in the course.
People trashing Stewart are just bitter. This was by far one of the most useful classes in this faculty - as you may or may not recall, the majority of our Business Admin student body has little to no writing skills. He's a great prof and has a lot to offer.
I think that whenever Kevin marks an assignment, he has a 'perfect document' in mind which he marks against. A very closed-minded person. To be sure you do good in his class, you basically have to know exactly what he wants. DO NOT TRY TO DO SOMETHING NEW & DO NOT TRY TO BE CREATIVE. Be "CRITICAL" means say what he wants you to say
I got the feeling that he loves teaching, but only because he felt he was better than everyone else. The course is useful, because of the writing skills employed, but he made it a living hell. I swear he stands in front of his mirror every morning and says "I am greater than everyone else" because hes an extremely cocky guy.
He's super anal. Can I say that?
Kevins instructions are clear. He has a 10 page course outline with everything u need for the course & he gives instruction sheets for each assignment. As long as you go to his office hours, TA, writing mentors etc you will do great! If you're willing to put the work in and keep his constructive critique in mind, you should get an A in the course.
Despite what others wrote, Kevin is always available for help during his office hours for extra help. If you go see him he'll pretty much tell you exactly what to write to get an A and explain why the alternative is effective. The material is really useful for work after school. SUPER important to get a good group for the project!
I didn't feel he has any attitude toward his students..at least not me anyways, and keep in mind that I don't speak fluent English, but Kevin's always patient enough to explain things to me. Oh and he cares that you succeed not only in 360 but also in the future!
If you go to his office hours he'll basically tell you what you need to do to get a good mark, especially for the group project. The only problem is that he can be condescending and rude when you speak to him one on one, so you walk away feeling stupid and put down. Other than that, he's a very consistent marker and you'll learn a lot in his class.
Detail, detail, detail! And go to his office hours... all the time.
Kevin is a great prof. People have said he's condescending, he's not at all. He's a really fair marker. He gives you the criteria for all assignments, and if you follow it, you'll do well on them. Awesome prof. I would recommend him over other 360 profs.
Seemed fair at first as individual asmts like Portfolio were graded fairly(at least for me,but some of my friends got much worse grades even though their work looked almost equally good)BUT HE SCREWED US ON THE GROUP PART!IMAGINE GETTING F AFTER WEEKS OF WORK ON THE REPORT!Take it with Christian bcuz I've heard that he scales grades to some extent.
The course lives up to its reputation of being tough. Kevin Stewart tries to help his students in any way that he can, and I thought it was evident. I didn't end up doing as well as I had hoped, but I still learned a lot in this course. I would definitely recommend Kevin to other students.
I stood in lines for hours to get into office hour, and he hardly helps. Go see the TA. I didnt buy the textbook, got a "B". But he/TA marks so hard. Our group spent countless hours on our project and ended up just a B. I wouldn't recommend it. I must admit I did learn a lot, like paying attention to detail. I would recommend Christian instead.
If let me say the one thing I learned from Kevin, it has to be "kids, life is never fair".No matter how hard you try, I go to his office twice a week. I see mentor, TA for help. I spend 20 hours a week on a single page assignment. I do not think I will get more than a B. Several times, he told me to write certain things and when I got the assignmen
Good at getting his point across, but rubbish at getting how much work 3rd and 4th year students have and accomodating to that!
put great effort on this course and you will learn a lot, but please remember getting a B is a really good job for this tough course, and notice that many ppl need to retake this course.
Kevin knows his stuff, has an extensive industry background consulting in communication. Heavy courseload, but the work is highly relevant and related. Marking is difficult, but he gives clear feedback, and in the end it helps a lot.
Brilliant guy, he really knows what he's teaching. Given the material, the lectures were really interesting and somewhat engaging. You will spend hours pulling your hair out at the assignments but it is a really good, practical course and you learn a lot. Oh, and going to his office hours is a must if you don't fully understand some things.
What I don't understand is if I'm being marked on the absence or presence of one detail (eg. specifying the date), why is that not specified in class so you won't make that mistake? Hoping everyone is going to pass...
Kevin is great, he really respects his students and want them to do well. He is a harsh marker, but real. He works in the real world and therefore has a realistic expectation and this material you can use when you start working. You learn tons in this class in terms of professional image. TA michelle is useless though, she treated me like i'm dumb.
BUS 360 is still a pain for me, although years have passed. The marking is unfair at all!
There's no where to find help in this course. I always wait 1 hr in line to see him in his office hr and only usually get 1 Q answered. TA (Rachel) was not useful at all ether. Writing mentors are terrible-I'm not even sure how they get hired. Unless you are a naturally gifted business-style writer, you're pretty much screwed for this course =(
Kevin is a great prof. He is very clear about the course materials and you do see your writing skills improve throughout the semester. He also has a lot of respect to his students and is very willing to help. But, this class is extremely hard, especially for ESLs. Take a GPA booster to balance your term grade.
Kevins brings valuable experience from the real world. The business writings are real life applications. Business is a tough field, and he lets you know you can't make mistakes because there is no 2nd chance. One of the toughest class I have taken. But you learn so much. To pass, you have to think critically from all perspectives.
Kevin is a great prof. His marking is harsh, but he makes himself very clear. you will learn a lot from his class. be prepare to work a lot in this class.
Expect a ton of work, but to get a lot out of it. MAKE SURE TO GET A GOOD GROUP or else your grade will suffer. I would have gotten an A if it wasn't for my group. If you're not a detail oriented person, you might want to check yoself or avoid the course. Get used to writing PERFECTLY!
Worst Prof I have ever had. I am pretty sure he takes pleasure in the suffering he inflicts on students.
I think I did better than my peers because I actually asked him questions about my work (he was very helpful). BUT this course is hella hard, often people get owned on small details, but also very useful. I think he was OK but would feel different I failed.
Extremely friendly & respectful prof. Treats international & local students the same. Things he teaches are super practical and useful in daily life because he runs a business consulting firm! GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!! He will provide help with revision exercises. Put efforts in student profile exercise because he uses it to put you into groups.
This is a tough class but Kevin Stewart brings a lot of real world experience and will actually teach you a lot. Just take a lighter course load and put in the time to see him in office hours and you will do better than I did.
BUS360 itself is hard to get a B. However, it is possible in Kevin's class if you work hard. Kevin's instruction is clear and useful that you will learn, improve and apply his techniques to the real-life business writings. Find his help during his office hour!
Myself and my other group members included all managed to get an A in Kevin's class. It's incredibly easy. I thought being an international student would make it difficult. He tells you have to succeed in his class which is great, thank you for the great term Kevin.
Loved Kevin! He's paper revisions are minimal (only 1) and he is really great to take the class with!
This class could have been a workshop; instead they make you hundreds of dollars for it. Grading is tough and it feels like he is telling everyone there is only one way to communicate in the business world. Btw, say goodbye to 40% of your grade if your group doesnt work well with you.
Very engaging and inspirational. He is a very tough marker. I found his marking inconsistent between students which was frustrating. Overall I learned so much from him and this course - would highly recommend taking Bus 360W with him. Be prepared for long hours spent on this course.
This class is not an easy class for sure. There are weekly portfolios to be done and trust me when I say that you need to revise your exercise weekly. Definitely go see him during his office hours, and also use the TA. I would usually go see kevin 1st and then go see the TA after I revised it according to kevin's comment, I would go see the TA
Bus 360 in general isnt an easy course. Kevin's office hours were really helpful, be sure you sign up for office hours as much as possible to get his feedback on assignments. Tip for the course is to be very detail oriented.
Kevin is a great prof and the feedback he gives is very helpful for future assignments. Hope that you get a good group because this will account for 40% of your grade. Take into account everything he tells you and be meticulous when reviewing. Go to office hours as this will help.
Kevin and his teaching team were fantastic throughout the semester. Visit his office hours BEFORE you hand in Memo and Letter submission 1. You will either fail or scrape by with a C otherwise. Be prepared to work hard with your team. REVISE, REVISE, REVISE. Office hours are your friend. You will learn so much with Kevin. Truly outstanding man.
Kevin was an excellent prof. He genuinely cared about his students & was very clear on his expectations for assignments. This class is lots of work, but not as difficult as it is made out to be if you are willing to put the time in & focus on the details. Also, your team makes all the difference. I would definitely recommend taking Kevin for 360W.
Good chance that no matter who you take this class with, you will do worse than you expect. Kevin is knowledgeable and the material he taught will be one of the few things I'll remember after I graduate. A tough course, there are little tricks on his individual assignments. Catch them and it'll make the difference of failing or getting a C.
If you're an average joe like me, you're going to do bad in BUS 360. Might as well take it with the most insightful and feedback-heavy professor there is at SFU.
BUS 360 is a course that already is not easy but Kevin is an excellent prof for this course. As he is a consultant for business communications in Vancouver, he brings in real-life cases that he has come across. His feedback on your work is very very thorough so if you want a good mark in his class, make sure you follow and adhere to them.
Kevin is a great lecturer. He is also a ruthless marker. Expectations for his assignments in 360W can be extremely unclear. Visiting his office hours consistently will be the difference maker. Time management with the group project is also essential.
I've never had a professor that spends so much time giving thorough feedback. BUS 360W is much more manageable than people claim. Read his survival guides carefully, take detailed notes in class, follow instructions, use grammarly, and visit his office hours. Kevin is a great prof who is super experienced and genuinely wants to help students.
Kevin is a good lecturer but an incredibly tough marker. He gives detailed feedback on the 1st submission of assignments to help you get to an A level on the 2nd submission; however, you will likely fail the 1st submission because his instructions are subjective/unclear and he is looking for very specific/concise detail. See TA weekly to get a B.
Kevin's class was absolutely amazing and I learned so much from his class. Office hour sessions were extremely useful and helped me write memos much more effectively. Although he is a tough grader, his feedback is very clear and detailed. Overall Kevin was an excellent mentor for me and I strongly recommend him in the future.
Kevin is a great lecturer. His lectures are interesting and cover important material. The first submissions are graded very hard but he directs you clearly to understand what is expected in the second submission. Although there is a lot to learn and you can possibly recover your grade, it was emotionally challenging to cope with the grading.
Nothing good to say about this prof.
A difficult prof due to his overly critical grading. He is responsive to emails but will take off full letter grades for tiny mistakes and is unlikely to budge on his opinions of one's mark. Avoid if you can.
Kevin will destroy your hopes, dreams, and everything you love
One of the worst professors I've ever had. When he grades, he's not open towards hearing our opinion or perspective and doesn't come from a place of understanding. He's also very stuck up and not understanding of students' situations. If I were you, I would not take this class, and try to avoid him in general.
Kevin is a good instructor as he always provides good feedback for students. He is also responsive to emails. However, he is extremely tough and harsh on grading stuff even though in an online class setting. It is hard to access him directly for clarifying the feedback and ask for help. Generally speaking, take other prof for this course.
Notorious BUS 360W class, recommend avoiding if at all possible!
Kevin is extremely harsh when it comes to grading. I do admit that his feedback can be very detailed & helpful, but ruthless. He tends to remove full letter grades for the smallest of mistakes. If we asked him questions then he'd just comment that we should know it from the course materials. He only taught us through his 5 mins weekly youtube vids.
Kevin's feedback is very detailed and helpful. However, he is an extremely harsh grader and has unclear grading rubrics. Kevin takes a very long time to get assignments back and does not have office hours. do not recommend There are weekly group assignments that you have to present to either him or his TA, and assignments are very time consuming.
Without a doubt the worst teacher I experienced in my post secondary education. Conceded, and arrogant. Since graduation, I've worked many years in business, and this class proved to be a very obvious waste of my time. Kevin's obsessive attention to irrelevant details are not applicable to the real life.
Excellent feedback on assignment as he goes in great depth to explain things for you. Very professional and everyone can learn lots from him. He speaks on personal business experiences which are easy to remember and apply to your life. The group projects are extremely hard so work closely with him/TA/and your group. Teamwork and detail is crucial.
BUS 360 is a hard course in general, but I recommend Kevin. His feedback is very clear and his lectures are very helpful as well. The TA is the best support line so definitely meet with them about assignments and the group project. Make sure to follow instructions!! Worst thing is that he doesn't use Canvas, but its not that bad.
Kevin is the best professor for Bus 360W at SFU. Before taking this course - I remember people saying that he's a tough grader but I'd say he makes his students work smart and improve the writing skills up to great extent. His way of teaching is great and I'd highly suggest everyone to take the class with him.
He can be a very unreasonable marker at times but he's very knowledgeable and gives lots of useful feedback. I'd recommend taking 360 with him.
You could follow the exact instructions he gives you and he'll still somehow find a way to ruin your grade. He's very knowledgeable but the grading is absurd
360W is a difficult class but Kevin made it more difficult by not using Canvas. Everything was emailed and had to be printed out so it was extremely unorganized. Considering the amount we had to hand in, this was terrible for the environment. Kevin gave contradictory answers to questions which would lose you marks. Lectures were straightforward.
His assignments are organized and not hard but his grading is. Porfolio is easy mark. Overall, I like his course grading, very simple and easy to keep track.
This class is really hard but probably the most informative and impactful business course I've taken at SFU so far. It transformed my writing skills. The class is project and assignment based, we did memo's, letters, and a group presentation at the end of the semester. Grading is tough but the class is worth it.
I can confirm that he's a nice professor and very knowledgeable. However, he does not use Canvas and you have to print every assignment. He will only give useful feedback after the submission of each first assignment so expect to receive a bad mark. EXTREMELY hard marking. Can be arrogant at times and made the class harder than it needed to be.
Kevin was an amazing Professor who prepared you for the real world. Although he does not use Canvas, printing and submitting the documents in person was different, yet enjoyable.
Kevin is one of the best profs that I've had when it comes to lectures, he has a great presentation style and is knowledgable about what he is teaching. 360 is a tough class in general, but I would highly recommend taking it with Kevin as the feedback he gives is very clear which allows you to do better on the future assignments
Kevin is very knowledgeable, and basically built this course. He may come across as arrogant at first, but he cares about his students, and wants them to succeed (might not always seem like that). Very difficult to do well in his course, but if you follow his instructions precisely, write concisely and attend his office hours, you can do well!
Kevin is a great professor, the course is difficult but he really does everything he can to ensure you succeed. The course is set up to learn from your mistakes and capitalize on great feedback. Plus he makes a good textbook.
Overall, it was a tough course, but Kevin tells you everything he expects. Try to follow his guidelines and textbook as closely as possible, and during revision, follow exactly what the feedback says. Ask clarifying questions until you understand; you will do fine with Kevin!
Insanely hard marker. He does help you improve your writing skills, but he's so picky, even having the slightest spelling error can cause a failing grade. The consulting presentation is extremely difficult and almost feels impossible because there's just so much information to know and he'll find some fault in it. Portfolio = easy marks.
Very suspicious man. Can't put my finger on it but something doesn't sit right 🤔
Super nit-picky about all the small stuff, one mistake often leads to 0/X on the related rubric item. Final project requires you to spend $15-$20 on paraphernalia and postage for the encasing of your final portfolio assignment, just for him to mail it back to you. No canvas, which is crazy for the tuition we pay.
Insanely tough grader but gives good feedback so that you can do well in second submission. But the group project is worth a lot and for that there is only so much you can do if your group members don't put in the work. The Q&A for the final presentation was super hard. Oh and he doesn't use canvas which is insane.
Kevin is an amazing professor. He clearly tells you what he expects and his feedback is really easy to work on. Overall 75% of this course is working on the feedback which kevin gives in DETAIL. The final presentation involves QnA which is the hardest part of the entire course.
Avoid taking Kevin. His TA was also not helpful at all.
