Teaches the class like everyone in it is 9. Doesn't treat you like an adult. It matters on your absences, very strict, miss more than 4 classes and he docks your grade. Useless grammar is his pride of teaching. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE. He's an irritation. He loves to ive his "busy work" out.

Very unhelpful professor and is hard to communiate with. Needs to be more understanding to other students needs. If not passionate about his job then find something else to do. Don't treat college students like we are in high school. Think about choosing another professor before struxness.

Kevin is a great teacher. You'll learn a lot from him. It's hard at first, but after the frist month you'll get into it. Just make sure you study your new words right after you get them, you'll probably learn about 1000 words per semester.

Heres what iv but together, people that complain abt him being to hard are in ASL 1 yes for asl 1 he would seem hard and unhelpful but for higher level students hes a really good teacher. you also have to know hes deaf and that makes teaching harder if its in a lower level. If you in asl 1 or 2 i recomend Carneal (not spelt right) she is lay back and helpfull, but if u really want to foces and learn asl then Keven is ur guy :>

Not patient at all. Has no concept of being rude. Uses put-downs to try and force you to learn. How are you supposed to sign "happy" when youre pissed off??? I keep getting told he's a "great teacher" but if Im not learning anything that means he sucks. End of story. A great teacher helps you learn. Not pisses you off and makes you not want to come to class.

I took Mr. Struxness' class many years ago. It is great to see that he is still as good as he was then. I learned more in his class than I did in previous classes. If I had the chance, I would definitely take his classes again. I hope you are well, Kevin!

Great guy, very intelligent and passionate about the language. will make sure you know all the schooling and achievements he has done. Pretty cocky. If you're looking to continue into the interpreting program TAKE HIM. If you're stopping at 3 then i suggest finding someone else. Very tough grader he makes it very clear how hard it is to get an A.

Kevin is great teacher!! You will not pass if you don't study all the books you are require to have. The books are a must have in his class. He is very very strict on grammer so if your pass teaches haven't touch on grammer you will have a hard time in his class. Its not hard to get an A in his class you just have to work at it. YOU HAVE TO STUDY!!

He'll ask you to memorize hundreds of idioms and mouth morphines for the quizzes only to have 5 questions; which are the hardest ones. He seems like he does not want you to succeed, as knowledgeable as he is he gets kicks out of seeing his class diminish through the weeks from people dropping out. No lie. He doesn't give any positive instruction.

I was terrified to take him by how low the grade rating on here was. However, I absolutely LOVED his classes! Strict teacher because he has high expectations. Teaches as if all his students are going into the interpreting program. Take his class early in the ASL classes so you don't get behind- will make it easier later!

I like him, but hes a polarizing person, you either love him or hate him. Hes the toughest ASL prof. at Palomar, & his teaching style is akin to basting you with a firehose; IF you survive, your ASL skills will be sharp! Hes a grammarian. He has a lot of white board notes, and expects you to know it all. If you're not an ASL major, maybe skip.

He is an amazing teacher who really wants you to learn & I loved his class. Just be aware this class is hard to pass, especially if you struggle with taking tests, like me. He doesn't assign homework or extra credit, there is very little you can do to help boost your grade if you do bad on tests. other than that, great class & you learn a lot.

This class is horrible. Kevin has spent the first 6 weeks correcting the author's mistakes in the purple book. His two test are 2/3 of the grade. No homework, but that is not good because the only thing he instructs you to do is practice. Practice what? Everything. You have to teach yourself with impossible expectations, forget using this for LOTER

Amazing professor. If you're going into into interpreting as a career, take him. If not, find an easier professor (Paulette is a good choice). You will study your butt off, and he is very picky about grammar. There is practically no homework, but you'll have to study a few hours a day if you want to pass the tests. He's tough, but not he's mean.

I took 3 years of ASL in high school and went straight into ASL 2 smoothly. Be warned there's a lot of studying (no real homework) and lectures. Not a lot of signing in class. Professor Struxness makes you work for your grade, but he helps you succeed by correcting you and letting you work through your issues. Great professor for ASL 1. He will be strict, but gets the point across clearly. YOU MUST STUDY. As long as you study for quizzes and test, you would be able to get a B in the class. The minimal study of about 1-2 hours is enough to pass tests and quizzes. This is coming from a rather lazy student still in middle school.

By FAR the worst professor I've ever had at Palomar. Constantly degrades students, outright tells them to drop his class if not performing well rather than encouraging them, talks about himself, full of self-righteousness. DO NOT waste your time and try and stick it out, drop as soon as possible and opt for another professor.

Struxness is a big book of information and knowledge. He knows this and can come off as arrogant or cold to students. Tests are long and REQUIRE you to actually read both the books and actually study hard. If you don't, there's no way you're gonna pass. Lectures in class are long and go off on random tangents with little moments of relevant info.

He is a really sweet and funny professor I miss having his class, there was no reading unless it was the signs we were learning about.
