This teacher taught the way that I can learn so I thought this class was vey easy, probably the only 100 I made on a test since elementary school! He knows his stuff and really encourages office hours you just need to be in class and pay attention.
Wow! What can I say? What an awesome teacher! He is young and energetic. I have never had such a great math teacher! I would highly, highly recommend taking this professor. Not exactly easy, but I sailed through with an A (having taken most of this in high school anyways though). Always encourages you to take advantage of his office hours.
VERY ENTHUSIASTIC! encourages office hours.. go to them because he will give you problems that will be on test!
He is an amazing teacher! Very helpful and east to understand. Take him if you can!!
He's a great teacher - - One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He's really helpful and will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material. Go to his class, and an A is easily attainable.
easy, good explaining and stresses office hours, which are very helpful
GREAT teacher. Explains everything very well and is very helpful during office hours. Tests are very fair and if you go to his office hours the days prior to the tests he gives you practice problems and extra help. He is very enthusiastic too!
most stuff is pretty easy to follow (im not a math person...) but incredibly personable if you need to talk to him after class and can clarify any questions, you learn alot and he respects effot. great guy.
AWESOME teacher. Is very straight forward..encourages office hours. Truly wants you to learn as much as you can. Do the homework, go to class and you should be fine.
Great teacher. Highly recommend
He is easy to understand; good teacher overall.
Easy testing and easy to understand
Sukanek is a GREAT teacher! Probably one of the best I've had at UT! He is great at explaining things and makes Calculus easy and interesting. I HIGHLY recommend this class to anyone who is REMOTELY interested!
Not a very good teacher. Will not take hime again.
Ohhhh Mother Lord... Sukanek is a great teacher. He loves his job as he will tell you, and it shows. He is more than willing to help if you aren't getting something. He loves it when ppl go to his office hours so do it. It will improve your grade guaranteed. I failed this class once and i have a solid B now. but... "Pleeeaaase stop talking." haha
sukanek is a horrible. he does not care if you pass or fail. if you get sick and miss anything dont count on making it up. i wouldn't recommend anyone put themselves through such anguish. you wont understand anything and you will end up taking the class over
awesome
He is good at math, you have to study for tests. Go to review sessions during office hours and you'll make an A. The ta's are very helpful. Slackers beware.
Good teacher explains stuff well and answers questions
RII-VER, hard to follow sometimes and will fly through chapters but is probably the best math instructor i have ever had...Again go to his office hours and you will be fine.
My distaste for math along with the 9 am class time caused my ultimate downfall in this class. I think he would have been a great teacher, if you like math. Unfortunately, most everyone who takes 119 doesn't.
sukanek is one of the best math teachers ive ever had, im not much of a math person but i got an A on math 119 and 125 because of him. you do have to go to lectures to understand but you have to do that in most math classes anyways. he is always willing to help in office hours and he is super friendly. i recommend him!!
Mr. Sukanek is a great teacher. I had a somewhat difficult time with the course materials, however he gives his students NUMEROUS opportunities to make whatever grade he or she desires. He is the most realisitic teacher I have had so far dealing with expectations as a college student. Highly recommend him for math.
A somewhat good teacher overall but could do things a little different. U will always have a test before the day of any break so that u will have to go to class that day. Doesnt really care if you pass or fail.
BEST TEACHER EVER! I liked Sukanek and took him for 119 and 125 got an A in both! I would highly recommend this teacher to a friend.
I am TERRIBLE at math and I think I can probably pull out a B or A- in this class this semester. He is SO nice and helpful at office hours! I struggled at the beginning but on my third exam I got a 100!!! You have to work hard at it though..it is calculus!
Mr. Sukanek is the best math teacher I have ever had!! He really cares about students and knew my name by the third week of class. Tests are difficult but not close to impossible, study and you will do well. Homework helps a lot! He really hates people who skip class, so go to every class if you can!! AWESOME teacher!
Very good teacher. Knows what he his talking about and can help you a ton if you cant get it!!
Mr. Sukanek is an awesome and funny teacher. He does go through the material somewhat quickly, but offers outside help. Great teacher. His class and grading is fair game. Do the homework he assigns. He tells you when quizzes are ahead of time. Take his class if you get the chance to!
if you want to pass this class, you MUST pay attention! i didn't and my test scores reflected it. But if you take notes you'll be fine. His office hours are GODLY. Don't be shy to go in, Mr. Sukanek is extremely nice and EXTREMELY helpful. Great teacher, great class, i would recommend to anyone who needs calc 125. And he looks like a hippy :D
I will barely pass. NOT his fault. I have trouble with stats. He is a GREAT, patient teacher.
His class is not an easy one but he teaches the subject really well and if you go to his office hours he'll make sure you get what you're doing. take the class he's the second easiest calc teacher i've heard of so far.
I think he was a really good teacher, but I would say it also depends a lot on your TA if you are in a large lecture. He won't put any surprises on the test,so...if you do your homework and take notes during class.you will be fine. He's always more than willing to help you.I would recommend going to to all the lectures and recitation. Its easy to fall
Best teacher I have ever had. I despise all kinds of math but somehow love calculus because of Mr. Sukanek. ABUSE his office hours if you need to, he welcomes it and truly loves to help people. Real gem of a teacher!
+Incredible+ I never knew the world of math until now. I love Calculus taught by the one and only Kevin Peter Sukanek- KPS Forever!
Mr. Sukanek is a great professor. I took Calc. at a different school and got a D. I retook it with him at UT and got a C+. I know that isn't amazing but he really is very helpful. One of the most caring professors I have had when it comes to how well their students do. Homework counts as a grade that can really help in the end. TAKE HIM!
Great teacher. He explains material very well, so well, that I felt he made the material sound easy. But, you have to be study a lot & be very familiar w/ the material. And of course STATS is very annoying & boring. By the 2nd test you may really notice this.T3 is easier though. He has a lot of office hours and tries to be very helpful.
It's very simple what to expect on the tests, just listen to lectures, take good notes, and try not to miss class. You couldn't ask for a better teacher for this subject.
Good teacher overall. Does a good job of explaining concepts, but he moves at a very fast speed. If you have never seen calculus before I wouldn't recommend him. Lots of homework and tests but that ends up helping you study for his tests. He was a sub for my class but he was great! Super nice and pretty funny at times.
Sukanek is the man! Overall, his math class was one of the best ive had. Uses homework as a grade, which there isn't much that is assigned, has quizes (he drops the lowest), and his exams are fairly easy. Definitely taking for Calc. Plus he is entertaining and funny. Always goes out of his way to help. Lots of office hours!
Okay in general but could be much better compared to other professors.
Coming in to calculus I wasn't sure what to expect. He took all my fears away. On my first 2 tests I got Bs, C on second. He has many office hours to help get a better understanding, but I never went. He gives quizzes & drop lowest. His teaching methods are very clear to understand. I recommend him. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! You won't need it. Use notes.
I'm horrible at math, but I'm going to make a B or B minus in here having never been to his office hours. When I've asked a question in class, he's been extremely helpful and very patient. He cares about whether or not his students learn. Don't worry about the book. It's optional, and I did all my studying for tests with the online homework.
Mr. Sukanek is a great teacher. He has office hours almost every day, and he will help you with anything. Very nice!! You don't really need the book.
Very good teacher. Many office hours. Helpful.
Great teacher! Explains everything that will be on tests! I made almost 100 on every single test/quiz/clickers/etc. Definitely recommended!
Took Sukanek for 130, then for 141. Coming in, I wasn't too scared because 130 was easy mode. However, Cal is a whole new world. Still, Mr. S taught it well. Keep in mind the quizes are harder than the exams. Overall, I would take him for Cal II, III, but he doesn't teach it :*(
This is pretty simple: If you're taking Calculus, take Sukanek. The man is incredible. He explains every single problem in the tiniest detail, and lets students ask as many questions as they want. If you take Sukanek and still fail, you're just stupid.
Best Calculus teacher ever. If you have to take this class, take his section. He is extremely helpful, goes over plenty of examples in class, has crystal clear explanations and you know exactly what to expect on tests.
It's pretty simply--Sukanek is the best! He really is. If he taught a basket-weaving class, I would consider taking it. His tests are very straight forward--problems coming straight from the homework, notes, and quizzes. Take his class if you can.
He's the best math teacher I've ever had. You can tell he really loves to teach and has tons of office hours. Go to class, review the notes, and the tests will be very straight forward. I would take him again if I could!
He was a really great teacher. His examples were very clear and recitation worksheets help a lot with the test! He is super helpful and has a ton of office hours.
He is an extremely good teacher. He is very clear and goes over plenty of examples. If you have to take Calc 1, try and get him. He makes calculus more bearable.
He really is the best math professor I have ever had. He does a lot of examples in class and bases the tests on what he does in class. He's super clear on explaining everything and makes sure everyone understands before moving forward. Only thing that kind of sucks is the homework but I just personally have never liked online homework.
He was a huge help! Very clear and would slow down if the class didn't understand right away. He tells you what to expect on the tests so studying wasn't too bad. Overall, I'd highly recommend him.
Anybody who doesn't like this guy either can't properly communicate with people or is a complete moron. Very helpful, communicates with students well unlike other math professors. I've never met another professor who will let you do homework in his office. If you've had problems with calculus take him and he will resolve the problem. END OF STORY
Such an awesome math teacher. I came into this semester thinking it would be the hardest class I had, but it turned out to be the easiest. He cares about his students and truely wants you to do well. Attend lecture and do your worksheets in recitation and you wont have any problems with making an A.
Very helpful teacher. He is very detailed when going over new material, which was very helpful to me. If you do the homework(which is a grade) and study a little this class shouldn't be too bad. I really wish he was teaching 142 so i could take him again.
He is a great teacher! He uses a lot of detail in the notes which makes it much easier to understand. The exams are pretty tough but not impossible so if you study you should get a good grade. The homework counts for a lot so make sure to do it even though it can be extremely frustrating. Overall a great class!
As "easy" as calculus can be: he's clear and always willing to help. Be expected to work super hard though! It is calculus after all!
Can't rate this guy highly enough. A lot of work is involved, but he helps make it understandable and his tests are then predictable. I failed (dropped) from Calculus the semester before and never imagined that I'd get an A, but the teacher goes through each point and is always there and willing to help. You can really tell that he loves teaching.
Awesome teacher. He's really helpful and easy to understand. He's willing to help outside of class. He says at the beginning of the semester that he enjoys finding out what you don't understand and helping you understand it.
GREAT teacher! Although attendance is not mandatory, GO!! you will miss clicker points (which add up to a lot) and valuable information. He makes math seem so easy. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. If I can take him again, I would!!!!
By far the best teacher I have had in my two years here at the University! He is awesome. He is willing to help, he stresses his offices hours in class if you aren't understanding as well as the other class. He makes sure everyone understand the material covered before going to the next point. I hated math before, now I love going to math!
Awesome teacher. Made me very interested in calc. Have to go to class because he uses clickers. Very easy tests.
Mr. Sukanek is awesome! I was having some trouble early on (because calculus is still calculus) so I started going to his office hours and my grade has changed dramatically. Extremely helpful teacher and he will stay with you until you get it. Best math teacher I've ever had. Plus, he's a funny guy.
Extremely committed, very clear when presenting new content, and one of the friendliest, most approachable teachers i have ever had!
Dear God this man took 20min to do a problem that took me 2. He goes into too much detail so it's kinda hard to pay attention to him but he is very helpful and doesn't care to explain things again. For the most part this was an easy class it wasn't enjoyable but it was an easy A(I've already done Calculus tho so)
Sukanek is a really cool guy. He's pretty goofy but he made the class enjoyable and I hate math. Lectures aren't mandatory and most of my learning came from recitation with my TA. But I don't recommend missing lecture. He's also a pretty lenient grader. A B is easy but if you definitely have to earn an A. Great guy, great hair, great teacher
Best math professor EVER! He uses great easy to follow examples in class and has easy directions on how to work each kind of problem. Recitation class was a great helper, the worksheets from it came as excellent study guides before the 5 tests and final. I wish he could have been my professor for calculus during the first time I took calculus.
Really awesome teacher. Very helpful and reasonable.
Subject is difficult but Sukanek is a good teacher. Has a ton of office hours if you need help and is very willing to work with students to help them understand. Posts keys to the worksheet that are super helpful to study for the tests. Gives partial credit on tests. Knows how to teach material so go to class and pay attention and you'll be fine.
Very Good teacher. I took his smaller class and he is very good at teaching the material. He gives plenty of extra material to study with.
Mr. Sukanek was the best teacher I have EVER had. He explains the material so well and goes out of his way to help you.
Mr. Sukanek is the best math teacher I have ever had. He goes through the material to make sure everyone understands it. He does clicker questions so go to class! He's pretty funny to so it makes class enjoyable. Overall, take him because he makes this class a lot easier for you!
Best math teacher Ive ever had. Very eager to teach and wants to help students learn. He is always ready to supplement problems so you can better understand and his tests are exactly like what he says they will be like. Grading is pretty easy and as long as you go to class you will make a good grade.
This guy can not teach, he does not fully explain problems. I literally have no idea what is going on in my class right now and my recitation teacher is no help either.
This guy is the absolute worst. I got a test back, and received a 50. I should have gotten an 85, but he refused to give me credit for the correct answers because I didn't solve the problems the exact way he did. It screwed me over.
The best math professor I have experienced. Very helpful, patient in helping students, plenty of office hours for extra help. If you have trouble in math, then take him. I don't know why other students think they got "screwed" and ought to be GIVEN a grade. Professor Sukanek is VERY clear about what he will accept on his exams.
I failed calculus when I took it in high school so I was dreading this class. Sukanek is a phenomenal teacher and I'm thrilled with my B+. He'll explain it however many times is needed, always available for OH and answers emails promptly. He especially helps those who show up for every class and I think is more lenient. Hence my perfect attendance
Best Teacher at UT!! Don't listen to those people that have negative things to say about him. They are just lazy and are not using their resource. He's exams are just like the worksheets that he gives. Do those a lot of times. Know how to do them and go to office if you need help.
Mr. Sukanek is an excellent teacher. I have always disliked math classes, but he actually made calculus interesting and clear. He really is the best calc teacher at UT and one of the best professors there. Really sets you up to succeed as well.
Very clear. Keep up with the assignments and attend class examples are just like the homework and tests
Pretty helpful, and clear lectures. Has odd office hours, hard to get to. Quick answers to your questions, but clear. Lots of online homework, and the online system blows. Doesn;t help you study much. If you take notes over his handwritten lectures, you'll have good study guides for his tests.
He explains things very well. If you pay attention and do all the homework, it's not that bad.
I would recommend not taking Sukanek if you've never had Calculus before. My ACT was high enough that I got put into a higher math than I needed too. I was so confused and behind all year. He expects you to know all the small steps and if you don't understand what those are you get easily lost. He is very helpful though.
really helpful
Mr. Sukanek reminded me of why I like math. He's very thorough in his explanations, and he posts the lecture notes online to help you study (make sure to show up anyways: once 75% of the class skipped so he didn't post them). There are online assignments for almost every class. His tests are long but he's usually generous with partial credit.
Sukanek was always happy to help students and would offer alternative explanations if something was unclear. He would ask the class if a topic made sense before moving on. Pretty easy to pass, just show up to take his quizzes and actually listen to his lectures. Homework was pretty minor, tests were easy if you studied and attended lectures.
Loved Sukanek, easily the best math professor I've ever had. He knows what he is talking about and expects you to learn. You won't ever use the book, so if you can avoid it, don't buy it.
Mr. Sukanek is AMAZING! I hated math, but this guy can teach. He's very clear and it's obvious he likes his job. I was expecting calculus to be my hardest subject, but it ended up being my favorite.
Mr Sukanek is an amazing math teacher! I thought this class would be my hardest class but it ended up being one of my easiest and my favorite. Make sure you go to class and pay attention, the test are not hard that way. If you put actual effort into the class it should be a relatively easy A. Book not necessary. Would recommend this teacher 1010!!
Really good teacher. I'm not much of a math person, but he made it easy for me to understand. Calculus 125 is an easy and relatively straightforward class even if you didn't take calculus in high school. My TA was also extremely helpful during the recitation class.
Professor Sukanek was a really great professor. He taught very clearly so that anyone could understand even if they had not had any calculus before. He made very clear what would be on the tests and they definitely reflected the homework and notes.
Best math teacher I have ever had and I learned, not just passed. He is extremely clear in his lectures and provides great notes and examples. He works all types of example problems for you before assigning homework. He is extremely nice and very very helpful in office hours. Favorite professor yet.
He was probably the best calculus teacher one could ask for, the tests are exactly like homeworks and lecture notes(which he posts online). He's also very organized and clear. I wish he posted homeworks further in advance as opposed to two nights before. Do the homeworks, go through notes, and youll get an A.
As long as you go to class, pay attention, and take notes this should be an easy A. Homework is a decent chunk of the grade. It's online but you have 5 tries to get each problem right - this should really boost your grade even if you don't do so well on an exam. Hands down best math professor I've had at UT.
Mr. Sukanek was great. He was probably the best math teacher I've ever had. If you have questions ask him - he will help in any way he can. Make sure to do the homework - easy grade boosters.
Pretty good teacher. Lectures are clear and he posts his notes online. There are clicker questions and attendance is mandatory. If you need help he is there for you. I took calculus in high school so this class for me was easy.
Dude knows his stuff. Take the class and follow his logic all the way to math heaven. #Derivatives4life
TAKE HIM! He's a FANTASTIC professor!! I'm not very strong in math but I excelled in his class! He's the best math professorteacher I've had in my academic career. Take him and you won't regret it.
He's a genuinely great teacher. He really enjoys calculus and actually cares about how you're doing in the course. He posts the lecture notes online and gives worksheets almost identical to the tests in recitation. He gives a good amount of homework and clicker quizzes, but they count for a good portion of your grade so it's worth it.
This is the best professor I've had at UT. He is an amazing teacher who wants his students to learn. He made Calculus make sense to me. Don't get me wrong the material is hard, but he will work with you to give you fair tests and he won't teach you any concepts that aren't useful. Please keep him in mind when signing up for Calculus.
He makes the subject easy to learn. Doesn't waste any time during lectures and stays on task. Make sure to check for homework because he has a tendency to assign it short notice.
He's a great teacher. Knows his stuff and teaches thoroughly. LOTS of WebAssign homework (almost every night), but if you don't do the homework you won't pass the tests, which are really tough and long. His lectures are clear and detailed and he posts all his notes online. Very helpful teacher, but definitely a tough class unless math is your thing
Mr. Sukanek is the best math professor I have ever had. His tests are straightforward and exactly like the homework and practice tests. He gives clicker slides for quiz grades which boosts your grade (but drops 2 lowest). His door is always open and makes things easy to understand. Lectures are fun and he always uploads the notes on Blackboard.
Mr. Sukanek is my best math teacher. He posts his lectures on black board. He is easy on his tests and homework. He is respectful towards his students. Attend his class and do his homework and you will get A. He is so clear.
Sukanek is amazing; his lectures are very clear and it is easy to understand the material. He goes over all the algebra you have to know for calculus so you don't have to know anything prior to this class. He's an amazing professor and would definitely recommend him to anyone
Mr. Sukanek is hands down one of the best teachers I have had in a while. He teaches his lectures in a way so that every learning style person will understand. He is consistent with his grading, office hours, and posting his notes. If I could, I would absolutely take him again.
Such a great teacher! My first calc class, but explained everything very clearly and wasn't hard to follow at all. Highly recommend, would for sure take him again.
Kevin Sukanek is organized, clear, and strict. He teaches the material well and makes it very easy for you to learn. The only thing that I don't like about this class is that quizzes are on material you learned one day before, so you don't get any time to master the material without it affecting your grade. I would definitely take his class again.
The first exam I took I did poorly on but after that I went into office hours every week and I got my score up to an A for the class! Very helpful and really wants you to do well.
He is always available to help in office hours and works 1 on 1 with you until you understand. Math is not a good subject for me, but he made it bearable. There is also a lot of WebAssign homework and practice tests that factor into your grade.
Prof. Sukanek is a great professor. He does give a lot of homework and attendance is mandatory. But his tests are always easier than all the practice problems. He keeps his lectures entertaining. Very good at teach the material. He also has lots of office hours listed if you need extra help. I would definitely take him again.
One of the best math teachers ive had! The exams are very similar to the practice tests and he is very straight forward with what he wants.
Mr. Sukanek is the best professor I've had. He knows the material and explains it very well. Made the class enjoyable by joking around. Subject isn't too difficult but if you're unclear on certain topics then go to the math tutorial center or to his office hours. Do the homework! Tests questions are very similar to the homework and quizzes.
He teaches the class through notes and examples. The homework and quizzes are very helpful for preparing for the test. He has a sense of humor that keeps the lectures interesting. I would take this class again! I couldn't have asked for a better professor.
Sukanek was one of the best math teachers I have had. Very good for the non-math oriented student. The class is pretty basic calculus. I took AP and this was nothing in comparison. Tests are exactly like the practice exams and the homework that you have. I passed with flying colors and I studied for one exam. You will NEVER need the book!
He is by far the clearest math teacher i have had. He gives very good examples, and if you have a question he will help you a ton. His test are extremely difficult if you are a slow test taker (like me), but i learned the material well because of his teaching style. You will have homework most nights (30-45 mins) through webassign (online).
He is very clear and straight to the point. Calc is hard but he makes it as easy as possible. His tests are just like webassign homeworks and quizzes you take with your TA, so practice questions from there. You do have to study and work to earn your grade, like any other math class.
I was lucky enough to get him for Calc 1 and Calc 2. he's phenomenal. He posts his notes, however it's mostly numerical in nature, so you need to be in class to know what was said, or else it could be confusing. In calc2 the material is obviously harder but he makes it liveable. he's also very casual and approachable. Great office hours.
He is a great teacher. He explains the materials well. tests are same as HW. and they are not challenging. Attend to class, take notes, do HW and you will be fine.
This man was the best teacher I've ever had, period. He had 8 hours of office hours per week, every week, and he was the absolute best at teaching things in class and explaining things one-on-one. It takes work to get an A in this class but it's definitely possible. The homework and the quizzes can definitely help you too.
Probably top 3 worst math teachers I've ever had. He doesn't like it when people ask questions and is very condescending and rude. Office hours are awkward because he can be very insulting. Offers no extra help, curving, or anything. Very by the book and it's extremely hard to learn from him. I'm an accounting major, I need this course.
A fantastic teacher and a fantastic dude. I'm retaking PreCal (took it in high school) and he's able to explain basic algebraic concepts to me that I've never understood. Tests/quizzes are based on the homework. Highly, highly recommend his class.
Mr Sukanek is a historically solid teacher. Believe me; I went through so many different math professors during my ut career.. it's incredible. I am writing this looking back about 4 years ago when I took 141. But looking back this far, Sukanek was one of the good ones. Also, hilarious guy; and he is really good at what he does! Not an "Easy A."
Mr. Sukanek is one of the coolest teachers I've taken in college. He is funny and really easy going. He really tries to make sure people learn solid concepts without making people feel stupid. Doing really well in the class thanks to his teaching styles. There's homework at least 3 times a week but he takes questions before every single class.
Amazing calc professor, he really knows how to teach, simplifies it so you can understand, even if you are not a math major. Gives advice about how to approach the homework for best result on the test. Hard teacher, but fair.
Sukanek is a great teacher. This is the only class where I actually learn things in lecture. The notes are thorough and he always gives hints on specific things to study for the tests. The ONLY thing I don't like about this class is that the tests account for 80% of your final grade and he rarely curves them. This class really prepared me for 142.
The course was in a large lecture style making it harder to learn, this wasn't his fault.
Best Math Teacher EVER
I took AP Calc in high school, so this was a fairly easy class for me. His lectures aren't bad and he's actually pretty funny sometimes (he looks like Shaggy from Scooby Doo, too). There is online homework after every lecture, but he gives you a few days to complete it. He does give clicker questions that add up to be quiz grades, so go to class!
Really good professor with lots of office hours and very helpful with problems you are having. Exams were 80% of our grade but were very similar to homework and the final was all from past homeworks or quizzes. I was in his first large format (300ish students) and understood his teaching well so he would be really great in a smaller format/
He was a great Professor. He made his lectures simple and easy to understand. He also did many of the homework problems during lecture. All tests are exactly like the quizzes. Midterm and final were not bad. Clicker questions count as quiz grades so attendance is important.
Best professor i've had at UT hands down.
Mr. Sukanek made Calculus as simple and easy to understand as possible, while still explaining the logic behind everything. Attendance is a must, especially if you haven't taken Calc in high school.
Prof Sukanek isn't the most caring professor but he's a fine teacher. He gets the material to his students effectively and in a timely manner. The amount of homework isn't excessive and if you do it and pay attention in lecture, the class is an easy B and with some extra effort an A.
This was the coolest math teacher I've ever had. He was awesome and really cared about the subject. He didn't make the concepts harder and made it easier on the student. He doesn't let you use a calculator but it actually makes the class a lot easier because the number's are easy and feasible.
Mr. Sukanek is the one you want. He knows the material very well and is always conscious to not leave any student behind. He assigns a fair amount of homework, but it's the best way to prep for exams. His class isn't what I would call easy, but and A is absolutely reasonable if you put in effort and see him during office hours. Easily my favorite.
My friend and I think he is shredded. He is a good teacher and knows his stuff. The only negative thing I would say is that he grades too harsh and he is not good communicating to students.
I really enjoyed his class. Mr. Sukanek made the material easy to understand and he truly is a great teacher. I would definitely recommend him, and I will take him again if I get the chance!
Great teacher, but putting effort forth is key. Really does a lot to make sure you understand. Puts up "tickets to class" to ensure you know the material involved in each lecture.
This course is not easy AT ALL. Stay on top of studying & utilize his daily office hours if you need them. Do not buy the textbook- you won't even open it. Weekly quizzes and four tests. Homework really helps if you actually do it. He posts all of his notes online. He genuinely wants you to succeed, but you're gonna have to work for it. Great guy!
I won't lie. This class is not a walk in the park, but if you care half as much as he does about math you will pass. Also PLEASE listen to him when he says he does not curve. He means it. He really does not like the kids who beg for extra credit after the class is over. Also, the TA's are really good. They want you to succeed just like he does.
Mr. Sukanek is one of the best math professors I've ever had. He has office hours EVERY day. His class is definitely hard and you have to put in the work if you want a good grade, but he puts a lot of effort into your success. He does things to help you succeed that he doesn't have to do just because he cares, like reviews before class. Take him.
Sukenek is a good teacher. I was almost always able to understand the material based on paying attention in class, taking notes, and doing the homework. The exams are not bad, and they are easy to study for if you have already done the homework and understand the concepts. I would definitely take him again
Best math teacher I have ever had. Calc2 isn't easy, but Sukanek presented the material extremely well. Would absolutely recommend everyone to take him!
Sukanek takes time to answer questions in class that are frequently asked in his office hours and is a really nice guy. Would recommend for any student who must take Calc 141.
Mr. Sukanek is really an awesome guy. He cares genuinely about his students and tries to make himself as available as he can to give help. His lectures are thorough and the overall pace of the class is pretty easy if you've had any experience in calculus prior.
Take Sukanek!!! He is an amazing teacher. Very clear, thoroughly explains everything, tests/quizzes aren't too bad. He is super goofy and funny, which makes it bearable. He is always open to help you during or outside of office hours and responds to emails quickly.
Sukanek is the best for Calc 1! He clearly loves to teach and is really invested in the class. He presents the topics clearly and it was easy for me to learn from him. He posts all the notes from class online too. Weekly quizzes and monthly tests. He loves it when students go to office hours. I absolutely recommend him.
Professor Sukanek is amazing! He is goofy, hilarious, an all-around good guy. You can tell he wants you to understand the material. He gives homework for every section of notes that he covers, but he gives you ample time to complete them. He encourages you to seek help, whether it be from him or the math tutorial center. Awesome teacher!
Professor Sukanek was the best math teacher I have ever taken. He made calculus easy and was very funny. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Having already been through calc 1 in high school, this class was meant to be an easy A. I was really surprised how easy it was tho. I knew what to expect from my experience in high school but what i noticed is how easy he made his tests. I was rarely challenged but at the same time i felt he did a great job of explaining the material.
Great professor. Tests are detailed but fair. I would take him again in the future.
Dr. Sukanek was the best math teacher I've ever had. He has office hours every day of the week, and he makes sure you have enough time to do your homework. As long as you go to class every day, you will pass. Use the homework, to practice for the test. The exams are worth 80% of your grade, but his great teaching makes it very reasonable to do well
The absolute BEST math professor I have ever had. All the material is presented in an orderly and timely manner. You will never see a problem on a test that was not reviewed. I cannot express how inspirational, funny, and caring Mr. Sukanek is. If you have a good math background and really put forth the effort, you can easily make an A.
Mr. Sukanek (Sue-Can-Nik) is an absolutely wonderful professor. He ares individually about each one of his students and truly wants you to succeed. I took him for 142 and 241 and he is just incredible. This is the one math teacher I have had who is organized and a fair grader. Do the Homework you will be fine. HW is just like Quizzes and tests
Mr. Sukanek made a very difficult topic possible to understand and grasp. He explains things in a basic, step-by-step, easy to follow manner that is ideal for teaching math. I wish I could take him for all of my math classes!
I read the reviews on here thinking that he would be a great professor, which he was okay. However, the tests were almost impossible to be successful on. The tests are given back through this very unhelpful grading software where the grader gives you absolutely zero information on what you did wrong. Also, like most 141 classes it was at 8am.
I really liked Mr. Sukanek. It was his first time teaching 241, but he did a fantastic job helping us understand the subject. The class is a really tough one, but the tests are a lot like the homework, and he truly is a fantastic teacher. He genuinely cares about his students, and he'll learn your name no matter the class size.
I had Mr. Sukanek for Math 141 or Calculus I for Engineers. Even having calculus I in high school, this is not an easy class or subject. Expect to study and get help! Mr. Sukanek made this 8am class a little more bearable. He does a good job of breaking down steps and summarizing. The couple times I went to office hours were worth my time.
Wonderful teacher. I had never had calculus, but through the way he teaches - it didnt matter. He simply makes calculus make sense.
Mr. Sukanek is the GOAT. He always walks around the class at times asking every student if they have questions on the homework/anything else. He teaches very effectively. Personally, I had calculus in high school so I didn't take this class as seriously as I should have. But if you apply yourself, with Sukanek you can definitely make an easy A.
Hes great. Not an easy A, but if you have a good math background and are dedicated, you will have no problems. He can be a bit picky on grading. He was super understanding when I had a personal situation come up during his class.
Mr. Sukanek is an excellent instructor. His lectures are thorough and he teaches in a way that is easy to follow with multiple examples. He is easy to approach with questions or concerns and seems to genuinely care about the success of his students. He is, however, a picky grader on exams. Overall a great professor.
His lecture style was very example based which I liked. He was very fair. Actually do homework rather than using a solver and you will be fine.
He's literally the worst. I came into MATH141 having gotten A's in every math class in high school, but I got a C+ in his class. Bad teacher, hard grader, very arrogant. DO NOT TAKE
He truly loves math. He makes sure that you can clearly understand the material before moving on. He will meet outside of class and will help you understand step-by-step what's happening. He pushes back homework if the class is struggling. He clearly tells you what he is grading on and does give partial credit.
Honestly, Sukanek changed the way I view math. He loves each and every one of his students! If you struggle, he will do anything to help. He never judges or expects you to know things. He actually CARES. He even gets upset at himself if he goes over class time by accident. Quizzes are hard. Tests are easier. I took him for both Math141-142.
GREAT PROFESSOR! He is kind of a tough grader, but that only encourages you to work harder.
LOVE HIM. The lectures are not bad at all, he follows a "skeleton note-taking guide" and gives a lot of examples. There are webassigns every week, varying from 2 a week to 3 a week. Quizzes every week are really easy if you pay attention. He always walks around before and during class to see if anyone has any questions. He wants you to succeed.
I personally did not like his style of teaching at all. Its a lecture hall class where you cannot work one on one. The quiz every week is alot harder than what you learn in class. He will accuse you of things you did not do. He does not care about individual students, and will cancel all office hours to seek help.
Overall, Dr. Sukanek is a great professor, who really cares for his students. Here are a few helpful picks if you take him: 1) Go to class and take notes - Attendance isn't mandatory except for the exit tickets, you'll figure it out. 2) Exams are hard - Make sure to be prepared and go through all the notes 3) Actually do the homework - no Chegg.
Sukanek is an amazing teacher. Even in a 400-person lecture hall, he still made an effort to know my name and create relationships with all of his students. He explained the topics very well, and the homework will really help you learn the material. He is a bit of a harsh grader, but not too bad. If you can, definitely take Sukanek's class.
Mr. Sukanek is an incredible teacher, and an even better person. Math 142 is a hard class, theres no way around that . Sukanek does not try to hide that the class is gonna be hard and you will have to work for it. He has a good amount of office hours and will work with you to schedule hours outside of his set times I need be. 10/10 would take agn.
One of the best math instructors I've had. You will not be disappointed with your grade in his class. He is very open to meeting outside of class and encourages students to stop by whenever.
One of the best professors I have had. I highly recommend him for any class. He is thoughtful, approachable, and tries his best to accommodate and make it easier. He often pushes HW deadlines back a couple of days and his genuinely a great teacher. He wants you to succeed, which you can, as long as you put in the work.
He is pretty straightforward, it will be a hard class no matter what but he is good
Amazing professor, but very very very hard class. If you have to take this class though, take him. He cares about his students, very well respected, and loves what he does.
I had Kevin sukanek as my course coordinator, so I never met in class with him. I only met with my TA. If you are taking this class and can choose a TA choose Anna Sisk! She is by far one the best teachers I have had. She is super helpful and makes sure you understand the material. She would spend hours every week helping me!!
Best Professor I have ever had. I took him two semesters in a row. Really changed the way I study and view math. Work for it, go to office hours and youll be rewarded. Hes so passionate about what he does and wants each person to succeed and is honest about the struggles of math. Take him if youre willing to put in work and really want to learn.
I genuinely enjoyed him and his personality. He was responsible for creating this class, so he loves it. Just be sure you know what class you are going into (this was harder than I was supposed to go into). He cares alot about COVID, so that could be a turn away. He doesn't do a traditional exam style, your grade is based on 6 miniexams. Good Guy
Dr. Sukanek was a great professor and cared for the success of his students. He described the material in very simple ways to make a hard class not as hard.
Cares more that you understand the material than get A's on every test. He is head of the math department, so he makes the exams/quizzes. Lots of Webassign, but manageable, and he is ALWAYS accessible for help. Very grateful I had the opportunity to take his class, and I would definitely retake him.
Love him, really cared about his students. Gotta put in the work as expected.
Tough class, but he goes over questions and always has office hours.
Best Math 131 professor. Sukanek cares about teaching, and is very nice to his students. He is the best math teacher I have ever had and will probably be the best you ever have. Breaks very complicated concepts down into easy to understand parts. Incredible prof.
Mr. Sukanek is literally the best math teacher I've had! He was always willing to go over topics that were confusing and would work through them until you felt comfortable. He always had office hours at different times so more students had access to them. There is no extra credit but he's willing to work with you.
Mr. Sukanek is a very good professor and just a nice person in general. He cares about good communication, good education, and making sure students have all of the tools to succeed.
Professor Sukanek is great! It's definitely a hard class but that's not really up to him. He gives students plenty of opportunities to succeed and is a funny dude. His office hours are so helpful for learning if you are confused. You work in teams throughout the semester, so definitely communicate with your team members as well. Overall, great prof
He cares a lot about his students and how they are doing in both his class and in general & wants everyone to succeed. He is SO helpful in office hours and breaks things down a lot compared to his teaching in class. You work in teams throughout the semester and he encourages you to help each other. GREAT professor for calculus.
He is a very passionate professor, is very helpful outside of class, and answers any questions.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!! Made this class so easy. Go to office hours and he will explain anything you have questions about. Also cares a lot about his students and wants you to succeed in everything! I highly recommend taking him for every class you can, can't say enough about how amazing he is!
Professor Sukanek is fantastic - super passionate and genuinely cares about students' success. The class is challenging but manageable with effort. He explains concepts clearly and office hours are super helpful. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for exam prep!
He's the kind of professor that makes my blood boil to see people giving him negative reviews. hands down the best professor I've ever had
My only advice is to get help when you need it, you're not gonna pass if you're too afraid to ask questions. Math isn't my strong suit so I switched majors, love Mr. Sukanek, though.
This guy is an awesome teacher and guy. The way he stands in front of the class with confidence and aura makes it hard not to listen. Tests count for a big part of the grade so just make sure to do good on those. Overall a great teacher and respectable guy who is willing to help and answer questions. Would do anything to be in his class again.
Dr. Sukanek is an amazing professor. The class can be challenging at times but he and his TA's do a great job at answering everybody's questions and making sure they understand the material.
He filled in for my professor as like a long-term sub type of thing. His lectures were good, and I understood everything he was saying.
go to class!! if you go you'll learn. he teaches well and i thought it was understandable.
Dr. Sukanek was a great professor. His class felt like a high school class, even with 100 people. He explains concepts very well, and him, Dr. Dabbs, and Dr. Lewis would go around to each table to ask if anybody had any questions. In class there is usually a quiz every week, however, the quizzes do not count for much.
Professor Sukanek is a great math teacher. He makes calculus fun and understandable to the average college student. He works well with the students and is kind and respectful to everyone. He has a sense of humor that lightens the classroom, and you can really tell that he cares about you and your success. I highly recommend taking his courses.
shows a problem and tells you to figure it out with your group with out any other explanation. then you leave
I love Mr. Sukanek, he made calc feel easy and doable. His guided notes were super helpful and although there's a lot of homework, it works as really good practice.
I had Math 132 at 8am three days a week with Mr. Sukanek, and I dreaded it every day. He holds a zoom during his lectures, which I often end up doing because being in his class puts me in a bad mood. He is super condescending and whiney and will talk to you like you have no knowledge of math.
His classes made Calc so easy to understand. He answers emails really quickly. If you aren't able to make it to class, he as a zoom class during his lecture. The homework is easy if you take notes during the lecture. He also has a note taking guide you can use for notes. Loved this class and this instructor!
Sukanek is great, he explains topics very well and makes it easy to understand. It only gets hard when he lets the TA's teach... He is open for questions, and is very kind.
One of the BEST math teachers I have ever had. He helped me understand everything and he explained everything so well. He really wants everyone to pass and he gives clear instructions and examples of what's on the exams. Does a lot of examples which helps so much and has AMAZING note taking guides. 100% would recommend.
Professor Sukanek is the goat.
I took Sukanek for math 131 and math 132. He was awesome. He explains concepts very well and he cares if you are learning and when we do in-class practice problems, he will come around and make sure your table understands. He also makes outlines for each exam/quiz telling you what you need to know.
Dr. Sukanek is a great instructor! He is very understanding and super approachable. You can tell he wants all of his students to succeed in his class.
I have to disagree with these reviews, Mr. Sukanek was not the best calc prof. Kinda condescending. Quiz content was far more difficult than examples in lecture. Didn't like his lecture style, he'd give us a problem and let us loose without explaining a thing. I had to teach myself everything after class. Highlight of the class were the TAs.
Prof. Sukanek is very good at teaching math, he makes calculus concepts very clear and easy to understand and always reminds students of upcoming homework, quizzes, and class expectations, so nothing ever takes you by surprise. Peer reviews are 4% of the grade, and 15% of in-class activity points are dropped, which really helps boost your grades.
Overall, very good professor. Teaches well, teaches clearly, keeps your attention well. Is always there if you need help. Always reminds of upcoming deadlines. Likes difficult questions on tests/quizzes. Not a big fan of curves. Big fan of using absolutely every minute of class to teach. Very down-to-earth person overall and worth taking.
Class is difficult if you haven't taken a calculus class before, but if you do the homework and pay attention in lecture you will be fine. The tests and quizzes were difficult, but it's never a surprise of what's on it.
