Very good teacher. Class is kind of hard, but I am glad that he is my teacher. Funny, makes class interesting, no tests, but a lot of readings!! I would recommend him!

I agree its a hard class but you learn. I have always been terrible in english and still managed a high B. If you apply your self you will learn something. Best part.. ALmost NO HOMEWORK! like only 2 assignments

This class does make you work hard, however, it is really only to benefit you. Kevin is willing to help those who put forth equal effort. As long as you are willing to learn, he is willing to teach.

I dont know what every1 is talking about! Hes a GREAT teacher. He gets u ready and makes u actually work. Hello its college pple and not every class is going to hand easy As. I got high B's on all my essays (havent got grade of last essay) and barely tried. Do the work & participate & u will b fine

I agree with an earlier rating. This is college and I do realize that it is a community college, but I wanted to actually learn something because I have aspirations beyond Valencia and UCF. If you want to become a better writer and increase your chances of getting into grad school, you should take this class. If you want an easy A, take another.

Kevin makes you think more than most teachers. He believes in education and wants the student to succeed. He is moderatly challanging. Just pay attention and give it your best and you will be fine.

I will agree he has quite the superiority complex and is a bit abrasive at times, but I feel he genuinely wants his students to become better writers. He makes it clear the first day that it is the hardest Comp II class you can take at Val State. I got B's on each essay, which is all the work I did all semester, and got a C for the course.

I thought Kevin was a great teacher! He cares about attendance and does not play around with grades. He actually gives you the grade you deserve instead of just grading you for doing it. If he likes your class, it will be a breeze. If he doesn't...good luck. Has a mild temper, but you will learn! NO FINAL!!!!!

He is not a pushover, he is a very tough teacher. He gives a lot of reading and expects nothing less than perfection on his essay's. But, he knows what he's talking about and I learned a lot. The class was fun because we worked in groups most of the time and he jokes around. But I wouldn't recomend taking him if English is not your best subject.

He cares a great deal about the subject. He explains assignments well and gives good feedback on what the student can improve upon. He is very big on reading from the textbook and does give pop quizzes. He is a tough grader, but I received all As and Bs on my essays because I tried my hardest. Put in your best effort and you'll be rewarded.

My FINAL GRADE WAS NOT FARE!!! I have all A's for all my classes ever taken at college besides this one. I got B! I did take the course as the priority and as a result it affected my records badly. I did work hard!!! And for God's sake, it was is my second language! HE IS NOT A FARE TEACHER!!!!!

Well,if you are a good student who is willing to work hard,make assignments perfect,and eager to learn,take him.I was a horrible writer and after taking him I became a great writer.If you are not willing to work hard and make assignments perfect then do not take him because you will fail.He pays attention to small detail,watch out for that!Got an A

My first language is not English(I learn it 4 yrs ago) and before taking him my writing was awful. After taking him,even though he is a repulsive person to deal with,i learn how to be a good writer.He is a rude,heartless person, but as a teacher he is very knowledgeable and teaches you how to become a good college writer.I got an A so you can too!

Kevin does come off as arrogant sometimes. However if you follow the syllabus and do the work the class is not that hard. He also comes off as mean, but if you do the work you will see that is not the case. Most of my class failed, but they didn't do the work or show up. Over all the class will make you a better writer.

He's not as bad as some people say, just expects you to read the stories and attend class. If you actually want to be challenged and become a better writer, take his class. If you want to slack off and get an easy A, find someone else.

All u have to do is do ur papers,read the assignments and show up for class. Participation is a big part!! If u do this u will be ok! I liked him!

Very difficult teacher, but extremely knowledgeable. Learned more in his class then any other English class I have ever taken. If you are not prepared to do a heavy load of work, he is not the right teacher for you. This is not high school. I thought he was a great teacher. As long as you do all assignments and attend class you will be fine.

This guy means business. If you're not interested in doing college-level work, becoming a better writer, or in earning your grade-he is not for you. A lot of reading and homework. He lets you know exactly what he expects from you. Excellent English professor; he really knows his stuff. If you're looking for an easy A, this guy is not for you.

extremely hard teacher. can be also very rude, but it's something you learn to like. is serious when he says to read every story because there is a quiz every class. papers are extremely hard to get a good grade on because he does group critique instead of teacher/student. DO NOT TAKE HIM if you have more than 1 other class. extreme amount of work!

This professor comes off as arrogant and sarcastic -which you WILL end up liking. If you are looking for an easy A DO NOT take him. If you want to be challenged, and become a better writer -then you definitely should. He gives a lot of HW/ESSAYS. He expects a lot. Just make sure you try and READ. Overall, I think he is a great professor.

My fisrt day in his class was awful. I thought he was rude and arrogant. But after a few weeks I grew to love him and his class. He is super sarcastic and funny, and if you do the assignments and give a little effort, you'll be fine. He clearly explains what is expected and follows through. I highly recommend him, he is awesome!

Doesn't really teach. Force feeds you lots of reading and assignments. Teaches you how to manage time wisely but you definitely will not learn a whole lot. CAUTION: Do not take if you full-timing and working...

He is definitely not the professor you want if you're in it for an easy A, but as long as you put forth serious effort, as you should be doing in college anyway,it won't be so bad. I have made improvements in my writing and feel better prepared for my next Comp class.

I dislike English, I've never done well in that course but I managed a B in his class. He isn't so tough. He simply expects you to do your work. That shouldn't be a shock considering it's a COLLEGE class. I highly recommend him.

Having read these reviews before registering for class, I am able to assert that Mr. Kevin is in fact an excellent professor who will make you a better and thoughtful writer. However, he will not enable you take the course lightly or breed immaturity. If you're serious about your education, go for him! He can be quite funny and engaging! A+

I liked his class very much and he was very helpful. You have to actually work to pass his class do not look at it as an easy class.

Very strict; hard to keep up with at times, but you will learn! He can seem a bit arrogant at first, but he's actually just really funny and has a dry humor. 100% recommendation to students who actually want to do work!

He comes off a bit rude but he just treats you like an adult. He can be pretty funny but sometimes sassy. He expects you to do the work and do the readings. He's pretty straightforward when it comes to things. There are 4 main essays and he's clear on what he wants. It's not a hard class you just have to do the work whenever there is any.

Ok, I was so scared to take him when I read all the comments on here. I am glad I did though. He is definitely not an easy teacher! You want an easy A? Do not take him. He expects you to do every assignment and read all the stories as there are quizzes on them. I learned a lot and I got an A on the 3 essays. Gotta work hard!

When I 1st registered for His class I was freaked out. Here's the thing, he takes writing seriously and expects u to take the work seriously as well. He was very intimidating to me at 1st, but he was very clear and I learned so much. It's not an easy A, u have to read & u have to put effort into your writing. But u will become a MUCH better writer.

I enjoyed his class. If you read all that is assigned you will do fine. He is a very blunt teacher, easy to get along with. Not an easy A, so you actually have to try. overall i enjoyed his class, was my favorite this semester.

Professor VanArsdall was by far my favorite professor of the semester. He had a dry, sarcastic sense of humor which I enjoyed. Most people don't like that, but if you do take him! The essays are simple, but you must work hard to achieve a good grade. Expect quizzes after reading stories for homework. He was so great I'm taking him for Comp 2!!

He's a big butt, but honestly because of him comp two is a breeze. If you don't participate in group discussions of the reading he gives quizzes you quizzes! His class is not hard, its four papers and no final. Homework isn't graded but I advise you to do it. He's pretty clear and doesn't mind repeating sometimes. Plus he grades papers easy.

Professor VanArsdall is a character; make sure you get on his good side because, he will pick on you for asking dumb questions. I honestly believe I got no higher than a C in his class although I tried my best. If you want to learn how to improve your writing take his class. He is overall a really good teacher, very sassy but good teacher.

If you take him for freshman comp and do everything you are supposed to, you will become a better writer. Took him for comp 1 and 2 and have seen a steady increase in my ability to write. He gets mad if you don't pay attention and don't do the homework, but because he teaches well i kind of respected it and did my work more often

He is an awesome professor! Unfortunately, most students are unable to construct a grammatically correct sentence as evidenced by their posts below, so you can see the challenge he is up against. Anyone who doesn't pass this class should go back to high school.

I was not prepared going into this class because my Comp 1 class was very easy and was like a 10th grade English class. This class is an intense college class. Be sure to do the readings because that will affect your grade. Other than that if you put in the effort and do what he asks you will get the grade you deserve.

He was a good professor very clear and concise. He does give POP QUIZES on reading assignments.(Its what threw me off) The rest is the essays and he gives feedback so you can improve in your writing. He seems strict but he is just doing his job.
