You can really tell he knows macroeconomics well as he explains it in a way that is pretty easy to understand. Never found myself very confused during his lectures. He is a bit of a slow talker sometimes but that's not always a bad thing.
Exams are based on the textbook, be sure to practice the questions and attend class as he goes through many of them. Overall, great prof and goes in detail of the concepts and theories to practice before the test.
Is very knowledgeable in macroeconomics and it shows in his lectures. Takes his time and gives multiple examples to ensure you understand. You could not attend lectures and learn the material but if you do attend chances are you will have a better understanding and will learn it quicker. Some things are not explained in detail so you have to read.
Class is hard if you don't know math, math is also not required for this class. Doesn't throughly explain concepts, doesn't reply to emails asking for help. Also he is an okay person but not very understanding, wish I took this class with a different prof
The class is hard is general, tries his best to explain and go over topics and answers questions. Gave a passing grade when in reality I failed
Very good Professor, really the only issue is that for online class his microphone isn't the best.
This is a solid choice for the course if you want a guaranteed pass. His course is weighted so that 40% of your grade is on the homework assignments, and you get a 3% bonus for following policies and not bothering him with emails. I don't attend his classes, but he posts the slides and notes so I just used those along with the textbook.
Good prof, teaches well and gives good examples to help explain different concepts. Also his marking scheme was good, making the assignments in the class worth 40%, midterm was worth 25, exam was worth 35, and we got a 3% bonus for just following the course outline. However, his microphone made it hard to hear him sometimes.
Eslami is amazing!! We had a lot of marks that went into this and his midterm and final were super straight forward.
Though the midterm and tests are hard he is quite lenient with students and is very friendly and helpful in his emails when you need help.
Keyvan was a great prof the course breakdown was really great as 40% was Connect assignments! The midterm and exam were definitely brutal so do a lot of practice. Doing review questions from the textbook and the in-class ones help!
Overall, he was great as he took lecture time to give us examples of the bigger topics which was helpful. The exams were a little bit difficult, so make sure to study all topics thoroughly!
i honeslty hated economics, but keyvan is a really good prof. hes caring and really wants his students to succeed. i would have enjoyed it more if i acc liked econ but other than that hes good
You'll have to teach yourself a lot of the material, during the lecture prof goes over examples and doesn't cover all topics. The midterm and exam were very difficult. However, the prof is very knowledgeable and passionate and is glad to go over difficult topics with you.
The Connect assignments (40%) are an easy 90-100%. The whole class thought they did well on the midterm & the final exam, however the class average was around 60-65% for both assessments. That was shocking. Attend lectures, so you can receive the 3% bonus. Overall, lectures are boring, but the prof is knowledgeable. Self-taught course.
Professor Eslami gives a 3% bonus for attendance which he may curve. Midterm and final questions are straightforward, mostly multiple-choice. Going over his lecture notes and doing the assignments are all you need to do very well in this course. - Connect assignments (40%) drop 2 lowest grades - Midterm (25%) - Final cumulative (35%)
Professor Eslami is a good prof with a heavy lecture, just make sure to attend his classes and do participate which gets you a 5% bonus, which is a good thing later on when it gets curved when your final gets flunked. Just do well on the connect assignment and midterm and final are pretty straight forward.
wastes lots of time going over stuff that has nothing to do with the assigments at all avoid at all costs
Terrible he gives such hard weekly assignments and does not teach us how to do any questions similar to the connect ones he rambles about stuff that are not part of the exam avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!
avoid at all costs!
Only talks about GDP, unorganized lecture with no slides to guide him as he rambles for 3 hours about things that wont be on the exam or any connect assignments
zzzzzz shmimimimi honk shno zzzz mimimi honk shoo zzzzzz shmimimimi Keyvan is not good bro uses all 3 hours and his lectures make no sense
Take Econ woth eric kam instead!!!!!
His midterm contains super tricky questions, so pay attention to every single tiny little detail :)
Dr. Eslami's teaching style may not suit everyone. He assigns lengthy weekly readings that cover key concepts, but his lectures seem redundant with examples. I do not gain much from his lectures, but the 5% attendance bonus is a motivator to attend. I would prefer taking ECN 204 with Eric Kam or through Chang School for asynchronous learning
His lectures have no correlation to the connect assignment or exam.his teaching is so bad be prepared to leave each lecture with a bad migraine ryerson gets such bad profs so they can try get us to all fail and profit off of us, I should I ask my dog to teach the course instead.
his lectures are so boring that I do my Qms 210 my labs during his lectures.
worst prof at ryerson.
Bro takes up the full 3 hours in class, only goes over examples with no correlation to the assignments, does not explain the content and doesn't even have slides. He's not good at replying to emails and his TA is even worse, she doesn't answer at all. Was so lost for the midterm and he doesn't help you prepare for any exams. Avoid at all costs :/
I would personally avoid for anything online related. He is a super nice guy and really knowledgeable overall but his lectures can drift off topic and have little correlation to anything graded. I definitely might give him another shot if I can within a physical setting but if you can for ECN204 Online take Eric Kam
Brutal
His connect assignments make no sense ever after looking over all his notes your lucky if you can find 2 or 3 of the 10 questions like the ones on the assignment his lectures make you so drained and ready to jump off a Cliff when your done.
He is a passionate and knowledgeable prof. I would recommend him if you are an econ major, but for any other major I wouldn't. He assigns lengthy readings, then rambles and goes on tangents during his lectures (optional but there is an attendance bonus). The final exam is also cumulative, whereas other sections only cover material after midterms.
Prof who gets upset at his ratings but then does things to earn them, such as a cumulative final exam, as opposed to another econ prof who made it not cumulative. Talks about nothing for 3 hours. Keyvan, if you are reading this, please consider a different profession, as I am sure other younger professors could do a better job at your position :)
Keyvan Eslami would BENEFIT from teaching courses at the 3rd to 4th-year level as he is very passionate about economics, and people taking it seriously at that stage would benefit from him. At the first-year level, it is not fair compared to Eric Kam in terms of cumulative exams, teaching, lecture hours, etc. Not a terrible prof
He can not explain anything at all. avoid him like the plague
He as a person is good, but boy he can not teach at all. Take another prof in his class you have 35% worth of weekly assignments he drops 2 of the lowest marks and 25%worth midterm and lastly 40% final. If you want ur professor to explain the topics to you in a way that you can understand then go to Kam
Keyvan's lectures and reading materials are thorough, which I appreciate. However, there's a significant discrepancy in testing methods between our section and others. Our section had a proctored, closed-book midterm, while others were open-book. Our final differs from theirs (ours is cumulative). Consistency in testing would benefit all students.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. Unfortunately, it does not translate well for his students. Each weeks lecture notes are about 30 pages long, and he doesn't allow the feature to copy/paste or make a copy so that you can edit. Attendance isn't mandatory but for extra credit. His lectures mostly don't have anything to do with the notes
Stay away from him if possible; you WILL regret it!
WALLAHI THIS MANS TERRIBLE FHAM WALLAHI AZIZ OH MY DAYS WE ASK THIS MAN TO HELP US FOR FINALS HE INSTEAD SCREWS US OVER
If you value your GPA do not take this guy. Stay away
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Before the Winter semester, Professor Eslami had a solid 4-star rating, which is very reasonable considering that he is actually a good teacher and very passionate about the course. Recently, I've noticed that his rating has been negatively impacted by a series of misleading reviews, seemingly from a single disgruntled student. The guy isnt bad.
I cannot express how much this man and his lectures just absolutely frustrate me. He takes up the full 3-hour block for the class and just rambles with no structure to his lectures. He gives you 30-page class notes that are literally no help during Connect assignments or for the exams. Whatever you do, avoid this class at all costs!!
His homework answers and questions themselves sometimes giving no sense to me. I don't understand a single thing attending his class, and what I do instead is read the notes that him provide. BUT, it turned out that 30-40 pages long of notes IS STILL NOT COVERING ALL THE MATERIAL. I can't imagine of a more unorganized class like this. NIGHTMARE!!
Not a bad professor but his teaching style doesn't work for me. That aside, the homework is reasonable and the midterm was kind of tough. He assigns a lot of readings but gives bonus marks for attending lectures and uses that bonus to curve final marks at the end of the course. Reasonable professor overall, work is not hard but just time consuming.
Not a bad guy, just not for me, I prefer Eric tbh
his class is so draining he preapred to spend the next year in the spa after his class to get you stress levels down
take him if you are super intelligent
The negative reviews are exaggerated, and Eslami is passionate about what he teaches; however, he does go on tangents during his lectures and there are lots of mandatory readings.
Studying for the final only for him to disable copy paste function on the $100 textbook he made me buy.
bro yaps and on top that teaches hella bad. i think he should quit tbh
Bad reviews are from a bunch of angry first years who didn't study and are now spamming his rmp with bad reviews.
Keyvan Eslami isn't the worst professor in the school, the main problem with his teaching style is that he is too passionate about Macroeconomics. He rambles and goes off-topic on the course material. Unless you are a student who is deeply interested in the subject or is planning to major in Economics, I would recommend taking Eric Kam instead.
To whoever is saying that first years are leaving bad ratings that are inaccurate: I got a 97 in ECN104 with Obeid and I had a 4.33 GPA in first sem. I did not learn well with Keslami's teaching style. His notes didn't really correlate well with the weekly assignments and exams. This class is going to drop my GPA and its really unfortunate :(
He's a nice professor but he needs to reevaluate his teaching style and learn to accommodate to those with different learning styles. He also doesn't allow us to copy notes and doesn't provide us with slides/practice for the final. As an introductory course you shouldn't make it this complex for students. First years please avoid.
avoid at all costs. nightmare approach to teaching
Do not take this ever. TAKE ERIC KAM INSTEAD
if you give keyan eslami anything other then a 1 you belong in a phyc ward.
Thank god I never have to take this professor again!!!
what a joke getting payed 6 figures to barley know anything his exam was so hard I had to guess the whole exam I only managed to get more then a D- since I got lucky with my gueeses.
Homework assignments weigh more than the midterm, getting a decent grade is possible even if you flunk the final. Macro is a tough course regardless, not the profs fault.
Thanks for the extra marks.
Thanks for curving the final grades.
Take this prof he boosts the final grade a lot.
His lectures notes are very helpful, final was a little hard but not so bad, he curves the final grade. Best prof ever!
Although his notes are kinda long and boring. He is a very passionate teacher and very reasonable when it comes to marking.
If your bad at Econ take this course he boosts the grades at the end of the semester.
Waited until the end of sem to rate him, unlike other people, good prof trust me, you'll like econ just by being in his class.
Although most people say to take Kam, I disagree. Keyvan's homework AKA Connect assignments are extremely easy comaped to Eric Kam's Mylabs, the midterm was basically the same, and our final was a tad bit easier.
This is the only review you should read: Despite the miserable people who never tried in his class that bombed his review, Keyvan is a great teacher, and it is not hard to get a 4.0 in his class. Trust me, I did it. Unfortunately, a lot of people sleep during class and then like to disrespect the prof.
A+!!!! Yippee take him he's great
Keyvan should consider revaluating his teaching style a bit, but apart from that, he's goated. Assignments are easy ASF, Midterm easy ASF, and the Final exam is challenging ASF, but it got curved, so don't worry.
Good Prof
Keyvan is a respectable professor. Although his teaching style is a bit difficult to grasp, it is easy to do well in the course. The connect assignments are easy to do well on. Despite that, his grading scheme is clear and offers a bonus attendance mark. He is a nice and caring man. I recommend you take the course with him.
Well-rounded professor who cares for his students' success. He does an excellent job teaching this course. Grading scheme is clear, Connect assignments are easy, and the midterm requires reviewing previous chapters. The final exam focuses on the last half after the midterm, so pay attention and take notes; plus, there is an attendance bonus!
Keyvan was nice but made this the hardest course I've ever taken. His teaching method made it so I didn't understand any of the material no matter the amount of notes I took and the amount of hours I studied. He typically talks about things that don't directly relate to the content we will be tested on. Attendance is a bonus mark.
Do well on the Connect assignments/study for the midterm and final; you should do well in the course. His notes and Connect practice questions are effective. There is an attendance bonus, so make sure to attend the classes. Great professor!
Great professor. Gets off topic sometimes but other than that he is definitely a well rounded professor. Take him if you have the chance. Make sure to attend his lectures, you get a bonus mark at the end of the semester for attendance.
before my reviews this guy got a bunch of good reviews... no way those are actual students writing any of that. The class average for the final (which is worth 40%) was a 41%. Previous years have had about the same class average. HE IS HORRIBLE. AVOID, IF YOU MUST TAKE THIS COURSE GO WITH ERIC KAM. I am studious and I am telling you AVOID AVOID!
Great Professor who wants his students to do well. Extremely reasonable when it comes to marking. Midterm was fairly easy, while the final exam was a bit difficult. Make sure you attend his lectures as attendance is bonus marks.
Bro is sigma skibidi I'd take him again fr
Be careful of the final but if you well before that even the final wont tank your grade too bad
Keyvan Eslami was pretty good! He was very friendly and the course I found to be super interesting. Make sure to read the textbook thoroughly and study and practice questions. That will help you achieve a pretty good grade in this course. Wouldn't mind taking him again he was pretty decent.
Idk what the 5 star ratings are talking about this man was horrible, lied about what the midterm was going to cover, didn't explain weekly assignments but expected them done within a few days, and goes way off track in class he doesn't even go off slides. Our class had like a 40% average, avoid at all costs!!!!!!!
He's not that bad
The professor's unclear communication about tests and exams, off-topic lectures, overly long lab questions with limited attempts, and poor coordination with the TA made the course unnecessarily confusing and difficult, with tests being much harder than those of other professors, leaving students unprepared and struggling to succeed.
He was very vague in classes in what was going to be in the exams, although they were manageable he and the TA could've done better in explaining the math concepts of the course. The extra credit for attendance was alright but he could've taught way better.
Connect assignment carries plus he boosts the final
Although attendance isn't mandatory, he offers an extra 5% if you attend all 10 lectures! The online midterm was mostly based on MyLab questions, so pay attention to those assignments leading up to that exam. The in-person final was actually easier than the midterm in my opinion. I studied last minute and still managed to get a B.
Not as bad as everyone says lol plus he curves grades
he seems like a good guy but for the life of him he cant teach nor give proper help for exams midterms etc. theres no slides at all to help no study sheet, the other ecn204 class midterm is onlne and camera off but for some odd reason ours is online w camera on lockdown browser, and when students came forward to ask him to show equality he refused
ECN 204 with Eslami is not too hard of a class if you stay on task and don't leave work for later because it does built up. He's nice, and accessible outside of class. Course has online assignments/quizzes for each chapter, they're not hard. Don't recommend getting lazy, work gets lengthy and more complicated. Ask questions, attendance mandatory.
Do not take this man if you value life...
Take Kam Take Kam
Good teacher. Explains content well and provides good notes. Bumps grades up a lot.
He was very annoying to have as a professor. Good guy but bro cannot teach.
His exams are very difficult. He wastes time in class repeating the same information and leaving out what's actually important and talks until the very last minute of every class.
Just save your self and go with kam
WORST TEACHER< DO NOT TAKE HIM
Terrible. Please take Kam if you can. Eslami does not care about his students well-being at all and would intentionally try to make things more difficult for us compared to the other classes. He is a poor teacher, I'm sure he means well but truly please take any other prof this guy does not care about you.
Do not take this prof at all costs. Doesnt care about his students and makes exams so challenging while the other class has easy online exams. Hes also very unclear about what to study and has no review nor slides posted to help his students.
This guy makes us turn our cameras on and mics on while DOING a online midterm like why does he do that and for what reason I get the lockdown browser but the camera and microphone stuff is completely out of hand. Also u can't understand anything what he says. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF NO MATTER THE COST. If u can jus take it in chang school.
This professor just made everyone's life harder without a reason. please do not take him for your CGPA.
Eslami is hands down the worst. He made everything way harder than it needed to be compared to other classes. He gives zero clarity on what to study for the midterm or final, everything is vague and confusing. His so-called lectures are a complete joke. Avoid him at all costs. Take Kam if you want to enjoy the class and not suffer.
WHO LET HIM TEACH???? Promised to boost us to make it fair, then lowered everyone's midterm marks by 10-15% (same amount as the boost). Did such a good job at making this course way harder than it is.
Was genuinely interested in economics and wanted to learn more about the subject. and then I met eslami. I now hate econ.
Just don't take him, take Kam instead, worst prof ever
The 1-star ratings are too dramatic. He's a passionate guy, and getting a B or above is not hard. You just actually have to put in the work. If you email him, he will reply with good feedback, but not if it's a stupid question that he's already answered like 20 times. Yes, he gets off topic a little, but he's not god awful like people are saying.
Horrible just take Kam
The 1-star ratings arent fair. He isn't the best teacher but he certainly isn't the worse. If you put in the effort you can do decent with him. He is ready to help you outside of class. He was a bit difficult and stubborn at times but you can tell he just wants whats best for you. If u get kam great if u dont its no the end of the world.
Ngl most ppl on here complaining abt him are losers. Yes maybe he yapped a bit and took up the entire 3 hrs but that's uni. Ppl on here have 0 accountability for their decision to be lazy and not study. Yes I was one of those students who did that but I'm not going to sit here and blame the prof for that cuz he was a good guy who cared for us.
The people rating him so low need to chill. He's an okay prof.. He does 5% bonus marks for joining class (3 hours long) but he boosts it to a 15% later to average out the marks with kam. He's a nice guy and helps when your stuck on a concept until you understand it. People r mad only because kam switched last minute from in person midterm 2 online
take professor kam or drop out
Take Prof Kam if you can. Professor keyvan was nice overall but his teaching style not so much. If you want your GPA to drop, then take him. He makes the class unnecessarily hard. You can't even download the lecture notes or copy them. The worst class I've taken.
He is a horrible professor, his teaching is one of the worst I've ever experienced. He would just go over some unimportant data, and half of the stuff he was saying I couldn't understand, so I focused more on his notes, and I was feeling prepared for the midterm. But then at the midterm, I saw some material I had never seen before
this professor is really nice but doesn't let you download his notes, gave us a closed book midterm when other profs had open book midterms, said he would curve the grades because our section had a 52% average on the midterm and The majority of the class got between 25% and 50% on the final.
The course itself is challenging, but the professor curves the final grade by increasing the weight of attendance from 5% to 15% if you attend all class, which really helps boost your final average. A nice professor would take him again.
Keyvan Eslami will initially seem like a bad professor, but he wants every student to pass and has increased the attendance bonus from 5% to 15%. He's a kind grader, and you should get him. Prepare to self-study quite a lot, though.
Goat made attendance worth 30% as a bonus mark went from 50 to 80
Don't listen to the bad reviews even though he's not the best lecturer and made the midterm lockdown browser he boosted everyone a ton and most people ended up doing really well
a challenging course obviously, but he tries his very best to explain concepts, you just have to focus. he also curves the grade significantly at the end
This professor has been considered tough overall based on his homework assignments, proctored midterm and final exam, if I'm going to be transparent. Though he curves significantly after the final exam and he has good intentions to make sure that his students study and prepare them for the future. He doesn't deserve the low rating imo
Attend Every Class! Not to pay attention but for the attendance bonus. Keyvan's midterm was lockdown browser while Kam's section was not. The midterm and final were super difficult, but Keyvan kindly boosted the attendance bonus from 5 percent to 30 percent! It boosted me from a 60 to a 90 percent. Making this my best grade. So take him and attend!
ignore the negative comments it's from everyone that's heard kam's class is only getting tested on four chapters for the final. he boosted everyone's grades super super high at the end. he's a nice guy and cares ab his students wanting them to do well!
So I was supposed to fail the course but he actually boosted everyone's mark so I went from a F to a C+. He cares about his students and ignore any negative comments here. Take HIM if all other options has been exhausted. Also he gives a bonus 5 percent if u attend every class.
baddddddddddddddddd ddddddd
bless this guy. i failed the final and still ended with a 4.0
Best professor ever! He really cares about students and his lectures never get boring!
Just took his final for ECN 204 today! This professor is extremely nice, and goes out of his way to ensure his students succeed. Unfortunately, I was placed in an online section, which made it difficult for me to learn. He is extremely knowledgeable about Macroeconomics, and is one of the best professors I've witnessed over my years.
Great prof for macro. He explains concepts clearly and uses simple whiteboard notes that actually help. The course can feel tough, but he's very fair with grading, drops low assignments, gives bonus marks, and adjusts attendance to support students. You can tell he genuinely cares and doesn't want anyone to fall behind. Def take him for macro.
Great prof class is engaging. Final is impossible, but he will curve it. Ultimately, rely on the textbook becuase he dosnt talk about everything in the lecture.
This professor is very nice and an inspiring speaker in macroeconomics. His lectures were interesting as he oriented students to each new chapter. But, you had to read more (his notes and the textbook), to prepare for assignments and exams, which was both helpful and stimulating. He cared about his students and wanted them to succeed
