Definitely an expert in his field. Very kind - if you miss a class, he is willing to stay after class to go over the material missed in previous class. Explains using simple analogy. However, the class may get boring sometimes.
Professor Moataghed is the best Professor I have ever had. He is an expert in his field, and still he can break down each concepts in a way that all of us can understand. The professor brings a lot of industry experience in to the class rooms. He provides the big picture in all the courses that he teach. He is very passionate about teaching and clarifies all the doubts with a lot of interest. The course projects are very interesting and professor is also very much available in helping students with projects.
The professor's courses are a complete package in Networking Domain. If any one wants to pursue a career in Networking field, Dr Kevyan's courses are very highly recommended. The professor has complete knowledge in all the networking areas like Wireless, Core Networks, Access Networks. So the students will have a complete picture from end to end.
The Professor does not need any textbooks. His class material could be made as a text book. It has all the details and is is based on industry experience. At the end of course, professor takes up an extra class to provide all the students a END to END picture of all the concepts covered in class. Highly recommended class.
Prof. Keyvan is the best at SCU in terms of Networking courses. The courses cover networking protocols in depth while making the topic interesting. Highly recommend to take any class offered by Prof. Keyvan.
Prof. Keyvan provides an in-depth knowledge of LAN, WAN, VPN an Qos in this course. Also goes over multimedia technologies. Highly recommended to get a better understanding of various network technologies.
He is super helpful, friendly, energetic and highly knowledgeable Professor. He is by far the best professor in the COEN department at SCU. He is a living encyclopaedia for Networking. This course is very relevant to the industry and he takes extra efforts to make sure every student masters the key skills by the end of the course.
High Performance Networking will give you the knowledge of the most latest and breakthrough technologies currently being used in the Networking Industry that enable high speed and high performance Networks. About the Professor, he is an epitome of pedagogy. I haven't come across any Prof so helpful, dedicated and passionate as him.
Excellent professor! Very enthusiastic about teaching his subject, takes genuine interest in the class and always arrives much time before class starts, that shows his enthusiasm in the subject. Takes extra effort in explaining topics.
Dr Moataghed is an excellent professor and a very kind man. He places equal demands on himself and on his students. The material is complex but he puts it in a way that is easy to understand and is always willing to explain further. He is one of the best professors I have ever studied under. You will not regret taking one of his classes.
This was the first class I took in the SCU graduate engineering program. It was very technical but Dr. Moataghed made it easy to understand. He tries to help his students in anyway he can. Because of him I decided to pursue a master's degree in computer engineering. He really cares about his students and his classes. This was a great class.
Cool professor. You do not need textbook or some other material to pass his exams. You just follow his notes and you will get the knowledge about course. He explains the topics in very simple manner and briefly.
This class serves as an introduction to other advanced classes offered by the same professor. Prof. Moataghed is very knowledgeable. He is very passionate about teaching and technology. He will keep inspiring his students by sharing the latest developments and advancement in the industry.
Easily the Best Professor that University has. His knowledge of the subject is exceptional. The care and concern he shows for every student is admirable. Loved taking his classes
Cool and nice Professor.
Lectures are badly managed and are long and boring. Very unclear grading criteria for the exams and projects. professor is not helpful at all when asked any questions.
Dr. Keyvan has always been student's favorite. His knowledge in the subject is amazing and been in the industry long enough he has a unique way of teaching and taking tests. The course is in depth if you are ready to learn since its limitless contents, but professor gives out a handy slides to read up which is helpful and a substitute for book.
Excellent knowledge of subject. Very Helpful and gives good grades. Material is nicely hand crafted, if you read properly it gives allot of knowledge. Course is not sectioned properly, so you won't know when new topic started. Lectures are long and sometimes boring.
Avoid if you can
The class contributed to my knowledge in the field of wireless very helpful professor. Very knowledgeable, stays after class to explain if you have questions. Strongly recommend.
Very knowledgeable in his field, provides detailed coverage of course, is interested in students to learn, the course material is very good prepared. Dedicates time to each student who needs extra help. Strongly recommend to those students who want really to learn and prepare themselves for industry
Amazing knowledge of the subject. Takes efforts to teach students from basic concepts while covering a huge range of advanced topics.
Awful teacher. Avoid if you can
Dr. Moataghed is one of the best professor I met in SCU. He has in-depth knowledge in Wireless network, what I learn from his class is very helpful in my interviews and works. He is a very nice and responsible teacher, he inspire students in his class, and he always help students after class. I recommend his class strongly!
Dr. Moataghed is one of the best professor I met in SCU. I took all his courses. He is the expert in network technologies, his lecture is very helpful if you want to pursue your career in the Network domain . He likes to inspire students, he will give your extra credit if you answer his questions in the class. I recommend his class strongly!
Great course! Best Professor! This course give you the latest knowledge in Network industry. Dr. Moataghed is a very kind professor, he cares every student in his students, help students and give them good suggestions. I love this course!
The best professor in COEN courses in SCU! Professor Keyvan is a very kind and excellent teacher, he always help students when they need extra help. The course materiel is very good prepared. The lecture is very technical, but professor make it amazing and easy to understand. Don't forget to take this course!
He is a very nice Professor with great teaching skills. Loved his class. You learn a lot
Excellent coverage, very knowledgeable, answers questions, will explain the subjects so often if you don't understand until every one understands.
Most take class, prepares you for industry.
Strongly recommend if you want to learn about networking and new technologies. Very passionate professor, he cares about his work and students.
You want to learn take his courses. Very good professor, one of the best at Santa Clara University
Dr. Moataghed prepares free printed class notes for students. His lecture covers a lot of information. He interprets concepts with examples close to real life that students without prior knowledge of the subject are able to understand. He is generous in giving help and scores. Easy tests. Homework requires efforts but definitely helpful and useful.
Very good Professor. Very good learning experience.
This Professor is cool and nice. Easy grading criteria. But the lectures are not useful. He 'charges' for the course material that he provide to students. He doesn't share slides too. The course content is poorly organised. But all his courses are cool with less course load which is student friendly.
Very knowledgeable, interested the students learn, provides details on the subject. prepares the students for industry. Material is tailored for industry.
Inspiring and knowledgeable professor. Very passionate about the subject & wants you to learn. Provides notes and guidelines for exam which are extremely helpful. Easy to score an A. Extra points for answering questions in class. Extra credits for well done research projects and programming assignments. Clearly graded exams 25 true/false ques each
One of the best Professors in SCU. He cares for his students and provides the notes in the first class. The Grading criteria is clear - 25% Research Project, 25% Programming Assignment, 25% Mid Term, 25% Finals (The exams are 25 true and false questions, and easy to score well). He gives a guideline before the exam with the exact reading to be done
Very nice professor, but lectures are slightly unorganized, and not very helpful. Lot of topics compressed into one course, with all the jargons. Mid-term and final are true/false, but they are tricky. If you have taken COEN 233 or another class with him, you are more likely to get extra credit in class to boost your grade. Overall, it's OK.
Listen to his classes, give yourself enough time for project and assignments so that you are able to avoid any minor mistakes. Project and programming assignments are 50% of the grade, so he takes them very seriously. avoid any mistakes over there. Midterm and finals are from the material he gives you, and you would easily score a 45+ /50
great prof really care about students. One of the best prof in SCU
Amazing professor! Not only does Prof. Moataghed know everything about networks and communications, has extensive experience in the industry, he also cares about students and is willing to provide guidance and extra help. Well organized lecture notes, clear grading schemes, and great classroom ambience. Highly recommended!
Prof. Moataghed loves teaching and helping students. The first time we met he was giving makeup class after regular lecture hours because he was sick the week before and had to cancel the class. He is passionate about teaching, and always encourages students to ask questions, with loads of warm words of encouragement. Amazing teacher!
He is one of the best professors I have met in my life so far. I have learned a lot from Him. After taking his classes, I have learned from nothing to knowledge in the network field. He has clear criteria for grading and tries his best to give a reasonable grade based on your efforts.
Very helpful professor. Take this course to focus more on your job hunt.
One of the best prof. at Santa Clara University, he dedicates time to you if you need help. He prepares you for industry.
Excellent professor, he wants you lean, he cares you understand the subject and follow the lecture. He knows by heath what he teaches.
Excellent coverage, clear lecture, explains in simple language that every one understands.
Awesome class. The lecture's material is clear and up to date. Professor gives out a range for the midterm and final exams. There are a lot topics to choose from for the projects and I definitely learned a lot from doing it. Highly recommended.
The class covers advanced materials but the exam is not hard and professor gives out points to go over for the tests, which is nice. Need to write a project report which is quite standard for some of the classes at SCU.
The lectures are very clear and helpful. You still need to read the materials, though. Exams are not hard and the scope is well explained by the professor. Project is quite open, you can work on any of the topic that is related. Highly recommended!
Prof. Keyvan has in depth knowledge in networking and will help you understand the all networking concepts. Very helpful, will clarify all your doubts even though you have basic networking questions. Really enjoyed the course.
Worst class ever, didn't get a lot to learn, too much coursework, graded on just True and False.
The course is well organized, brings industrial expertise in class to prepare students for industry. Covers most recent technologies, explains in simple way complicated subjects. Is one of the experts in his field.
Nice prof. Avoid him though unless you can find his previous material. Then you will get A
Excellent lecture, one of best courses, he explains in simple words complicated subjects.
the professor reads from the slides ... a little disappointed in the learning experience. he does give you a study guide for the exams, which is helpful, but i am not happy (especially considering how much we pay for our education at this school).
COEN233 should be taught by the overall concepts about the network, the core should focus on more routing, protocol, cache, and etc. However, the professor took so much time on physical layer applications, which is rarely needed for the majority of the students. There are too many topics compressed in the sildes, very abstract.
Excellent coverage of subject, explains practical usage of subjects in the industry, he prepares you for industry , takes time after class to answer questions, always available for students, very knowledgeable in his field, fair grading method.
Lecture is boring.
The professor is caring, engaging and approachable for any doubts. However, he doesn't explain the concepts well, and even the slides are written poorly. Makes it hard to understand because everything seems quite abstract. A lot of time was wasted on trivial topics. The project and assignments were good though.
Very good professor, dedicated to the students to learn, spends time with students after class, online or offline. Excellent knowledge of subject, explains the details, emphasizes the importance of the related subject fields in the industry. Has passion in teaching, he answers all questions you ask with details.
No doubt that he is a smart and caring person with lots of industry experience. However, do not take COEN146 with him. The class is 550 PowerPoint slides with barely any practice material. He promotes learning over memorization, yet provides little to no structure to do so other than to review the hundreds of slides.
Clearly a very caring and knowledgeable guy, but never taken a class that was as disorganized and disconnected. The content is important and useful stuff, but it's very hard to learn it when doing well in the class comes down to memorizing things from a monolithic 550 slide PowerPoint. Avoid taking him for COEN 146, there are much better options.
Professor Moataghed is very nice, but doesn't prepare you at all for the midterms and final, which make up 80% of the final grade. Your only avenues for studying are rereading the 552 class slides. It feels like he expects his students to learn most of the material outside of class, but doesn't provide any materials to do so.
Pros: he cares about his students, accessible outside class, has industry experience, extra credit Cons: tests cover way too many concepts, tests are only T/F, accent which makes it difficult to understand him, slides are disorganized Tips: use quizlet, attend every lecture so he recognizes you and can help you with your grade
An excellent professor, very experienced in teaching and industry If you want really to learn networking don't miss this course, he explains in simple language the complicated concepts of networking. I definitely will take more courses from him to learn more. Very fair in grading. He prepares you for industry.
He is caring about your leaning, Has many years of experience in the industry, he wants that you becomes successful. The tests are fair, if you have learned the course material you will have no problem. The tests are TRUE or FALSE and multiple choices. I am graduating, I am happy I took this course.
Very good course material. If you are in class use his material and the book, definitely you will get an A. Always available outside class to answer your questions. Don't miss this course
One of the few fundamental course which every computer science student should know. It sets good foundation for distributed systems and cloud computing courses. Professor really puts in great efforts to teach the core concepts in as easy manner as possible. He is always available and accessible to solve your doubts.
Best course to learn about the mobile and wireless technology. The professor goes unto great extent to make student understand complete network communication right from landlines up to 5G. He also explains the important concepts about the wireless technology right from development to its network setup. Great course to have in our profile
Great course to understand the flow of information through different network medium. Professor brings his 30+ years of industry experience to classroom to make student connect wit theory to application. Great course to have especially if you are planning on making a network / cyber security profile
Although this class had a lot of lecture material, and I wouldn't say I remembered all of it, the professor was nice enough to be lenient with the material in both our homework and our tests. It's a weird sort of balance where there's so much material that you need to learn, but the class is set up in such a way that it becomes easier to pass.
Professor Moataghed is very knowledgeable and caring. However, he runs through 552 slides very fast, which makes it difficult to prepare for the exams. Tests are alright if you study early and know most of the content. Go to his office hours if you have trouble understanding class material; he explains stuff better online one-to-one over Zoom.
Professor Moataghed is really caring and knowledgable! He's very willing to help outside of class. As long as you study the lecture slides, the tests are not bad! The only downside is that it's all multiple choice, so there's no partial credit. The homework's are easy. You definitely have to know the material very well to do well in this class!
The course is well-organized, the materials is detailed. Professor is so dedicated to prepare the lectures and try his best to help students understand the concepts. Just come to class room and pay your attention to lecture then you will get great grades and also really learn things.
I highly recommend it! Attendance is not mandatory but he teaches well, and you can get up to 5 bonus points for attending class (assume each point is a percent). We do need to review a lot of slides for the tests but it's not bad as long as you go to class and review the material at least once a week to make sure you have an idea of the concepts.
The tests were pretty hard. So was the evaluation for the programming assignment.
His lectures are sometimes engaging, but most times it is just him talking. If a course is going to be like that, I'd rather just read the textbook at home. Not to mention I felt the slides didn't explain the concepts as well as the textbook did. The questions that he asks in class are sometimes convoluted, but the extra credit policy is nice.
Professor Moataghed's COEN146 course is a solid choice. Attend class, review slides, and utilize resources like Unstuck AI - you'll learn a lot and likely earn a good grade.
Although each class is a bit of a heavy lecture, he does a good job breaking down some of the more complex topics. He gives lots of extra credit, so show up to class and participate and you'll do well. The midterm and final are true and false questions.
Prof. Moataghed cares a lot about his students. He has impressive experience in the networking industry & often shares personal insights. For more personalized explanations his office hours are useful! Review lecture slides for quizzes--taking notes concisely on key concepts is important. Can get up to 5 bonus points for participating in class too!
hi guys honestly this class is cooked anywhere and everywhere so this is more for this class and less for the prof but oh my god i have been looking at 200 slides for the midterm and crashout this class is legit just memorizing but the material is hard you're gonna be struggling a lot but the tests r all mc but like still tricky…. so yeah
Professor Moataghed is GOATED. His class has two homework assignments, two midterms, and one final exam. Although he lectures a lot, he gives extra credit points to students who participate and answer questions during class. If you understand his lecture slides, then you can do well on the exams without reading the textbook. Highly recommended.
Delusional about his teaching quality, Kevin reads disorganized slides aloud, writes MCQs in broken English, and lacks all conceptual depth. His poor English directly leads to confusing, poorly worded problems. A Dunning-Kruger case study, confusing rigor with clarity, and busywork with education. Avoid if you seek to learn, rather than endure.
This course inspired me to focus my job search in the networking. Excellent lectures, he makes sure students understand the lecture His tests are focusing on the lecture, if you have been in class, you will pass the tests with good grades Gives extra points if you answer questions he asks in class He cares for his students, spending time for you
Exams are weird: take a slide but change the wording slightly, so you really have to know your stuff. Exams are all on Camino without a lockdown browser.... Most people do badly on the exams, so he curves at the end if he sees you were trying (literally just show up even though he rambles). Extra credit for answering questions during the lecture.
