I took professor Yaghmayi's class in the summer, which might be part of the reason the class was so horrible. Everything was very rushed, I felt like he went through a lot of information quickly without allotting time to understand the principle. I've done very well at math before this point, but this class was impossible.
I absolutely liked the layout of the class and the way the lectures was set up. He wanted to help students learn math! I did NOT like the WebAssign homework because it just consider the final answer not the whole solution. Overall a great teacher.
The solutions of the homework and quizzes are all on the web and he is willing to help us when we have question. I expected Keyvan involve the class a little more during lectures. All in all it was good.
Keyvan is very nice and caring. Sit in the front of the class and get involved if you want to do well; he's pretty quiet. Homework and (easy) group quizzes every week. ALSO, he hands out awesome notes to follow along with. Final's worth a huge chunk of the overall grade, so do well. He curved the whole class at the end of the semester.
Keyvan was way nice, patient, and always helpful. Quizzes and exams were taken from examples and homework. Grading was very fair, and there was extra credit. Also, the notes were printed so you could just pay attention. Lectures were sometimes slow, but this was generally due to Keyvan thoroughly explaining concepts and answering questions.
He ran my Calc 1 lab and it was the WORST. He never collaborated with the professor and so the assignments in lab were often much harder than anything we did in class or for homework. Graded things really harshly and none it was ever returned. Also when asked questions he gives indirect answers and never explains how to do something.
The lab books are filled with info, but he doesn't quiz/test on anything too difficult. Easy A and reviews before all tests!! There was a ton of extra credit, which helped if you skip a lab or messed up on a quiz!
Keyvan is awesome. He explains material well and he doesn't go too fast. I haven't taken math in over a year, and his class was very easy. He does group quizzes which is great and the exams are all problems you've done before, either in homework or class examples. If you need a great Math prof keyvan is your guy.
Keyvan is awesome! He teaches very clearly and is willing to work with his students to address their needs. He expects you to do your work, but also provides opportunities like group quizzes or test corrections to make everything a bit more managable. Would definitely recommend him as a teacher!
I took his class during COVID, and he adapted well to the online format. Ive noticed hes very good at specifically answering the questions that students ask, rather than repeating something he said or talking around it like some teachers do. He has good handwriting, is nice, and loves what he does. (his name is pronounced like K 1)
The worst prof I've had at the U by far. Might be good for a calc class, but I was expecting more from a DE class for math majors. All we learned was algorithms and NO theory. Gave few proofs. His homework took 10+ hours some weeks + 2 hours for a quiz and it was very repetitious. Take from a different prof if you actually want to learn anything
Keyvan was a great math teacher for business calc, which my friends have complained in the past how horrible their profs were. There is weekly hw and quizzes, which you can work on groups and get a few extenstions on. My only gripe was sometimes picky on grading and slightly tough exams (open note). Would recommend taking calc from him.
He's good at teaching calculus and clearly cares about his students. Generally, if you put the work in you'll be able to pass, but don't expect to get an A without a fair bit of work. The homework and quizzes weren't terrible considering it was calc, but the midterms were pretty killer; I'd just study for those as it mirrors the hw pretty closely.
Fantastic professor, lecture notes are otherworldly. Really talented at teaching complex mathematics and calculus over the internet. Just show up and try, you'll 100% pass. The lecture notes are so easy to read and organized, if you miss a class it's so easy to catch yourself up.
I'm taking professor Yaghmayi's calc 2 class right now via zoom. Professor Yaghmayi is an amazing teacher. His lectures are clear and easy to follow and his lecture notes are the neatest notes I've ever seen. If you have a question he is happy to answer. Today I needed help on a homework problem and he stayed 40 minutes after class to help me.
Amazing professor. I was terrified by this class, but K1 did an incredible job of explaining concepts and going through detailed examples. Put in a bit of effort outside of lectures to understand what was taught and you will be more than fine. I actually had fun in this class!
This semester was very tough due to it being an online class but Keyvan did his best to make sure his students do well. Unfortunately,, the whole math department voted to make assessments harder so his tests were near impossible but he is very generous with test corrections. the homework quizzes can also be worked on in groups which I appreciate.
Stern but fair. You can teach yourself with the textbook, but expect to attend lectures. He allows you to be self sufficient, but you'll have to put lots of work. He won't fail you as long as you demonstrate that you know what you're doing on tests and homework. Flexible course structure that advocates all kinds of learning. An excellent Professor!
K1 really cares for his students' success and is willing to help them with any questions they have. Class notes won't always be able to help with figuring out some of the harder homework questions, but they give a good general base of what you need to know. Let's you do midterm corrections for 40% points back which is super nice.
Was good except the tests were too difficult, 2 midterms and a final each worth 20% of the final grade. The test averages were all 67%. He gave midterm corrections and said he would curve the final grade but didn't actually do that. I got screwed over because only midterms had corrections and I did better on those. Didn't round my very close grade.
I had K1 for calc 2 and was absolutely blown away. Everyone I have ever talked to has said calc 2 was the hardest math around but he made it easy to understand and he was very thorough with his explanations. His lecture notes are the most organized notes I have seen, making review easy. Also, our tests were open-note. I can't recommend him enough.
A difficult class, more so in the summer semester. Keyvan has beautiful lecture notes and the innate ability to help students understand difficult concepts. A lot of the concepts build off of previous material discussed. An excellent prof, generous test correction policies, and accessible outside of class. No excuse not to do well in this class.
He's nice and is pretty funny, but he doesn't answer questions and if he does, its not really the question that was asked. He doesn't teach lectures every well and everyone is left on their own. We've had ridiculous math problems that would need a calculator but we can't use them for this class (1050). Best advice if you take him, go to tutoring.
Super cool guy.
Hes been my favorite professor, he is really nice and his lectures are really clear and he makes sure you understand. Homework is easy and quizzes are done in groups. Midterms can have one notecard and are short.
class notes on the canvas. easy to follow his nots. quiz not bad at all.
Keyvan is a great professor. He makes us chuckle every once in a while, is very good at answering emails, and keeps the class relatively fast paced. Some homework questions are a little unrelated to what we learned in class but it's nothing impossible to do. About 2-3, 20 problems each- it's not as bad as it may seem.
THIS MAN IS THE BEST DAMN PROFESSOR IN THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH! HE INSPIRED ME TO LOVE MATH AND IS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST PROFESSORS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. GIVE THIS MAN A BIGGER OFFICE.
This is by far my most favorite teacher and is an amazing teacher. Everything he taught clicked instantly and was extremely clear to understand and comprehend. This class was made easy because of Keyvan's amazing teachings. He is always understanding and helpful. He is also very caring and willing to help no matter what. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
Keyvan is the type of professor that is an awesome person but not an awesome teacher. He is very kind and will answer any questions. He sometimes doesn't answer questions in the best way and some of the homework questions are completely unrelated (stuff we didn't learn). Other than that, he gives pretty good lectures, but beware, it can be a lot.
One of the best teachers I've had in my school career. Was an excellent PDE's professor and I would highly recommend. UofU upgrade this guy's office, he deserves it.
Keyvan is hands down the best professor ever. He puts in extra time to make sure that you understand the concepts and is good at explaining it in a way that makes sense to you. Overall a super fun guy, made my first semester of college so much easier!
Hands down the best math professor in the math department. The textbook that was used was absolute trash but Keyvan broke it down into simple easy to follow steps. His lectures were super organized and uploaded onto canvas afterward. He is super caring and is accessible outside of class. Quizzes Fridays were great practice for the test.
K1 is by far the best professor I have had. His understanding of the lecture material is unmatched, and if you don't understand he will explain it to you ten different ways until you do. His notes are immaculate and he is a super fair grader. I took linear algebra and ODE's with him over the summer and loved him enough to justify 7:30 am 5 days/wk
K1 is awesome. 2250 was moderately difficult - weekly lab, take home quiz, and homework. The homework assignments were (mostly) easy. The take home quizzes are too. Labs can be hard, but that's sort of the point. Lectures are a bit long and slightly boring, but that's not K1's fault, it's the material.
The best math professor I've ever had. The way he explains things are very clear, and his notes are easily readable/understandable. He'll stay after class however long you need, and will respond emails late into the night. His tests mimick his reviews, though the test is a bit harder.
Keyvan is a great professor. However, if english is not your first language I would recommend taking this course from a different professor. He can be kind of hard to understand. He certainly knows the material very well. He gave us points back on our midterms for doing corrections. The class is challenging so you do have to work hard to do well.
Keyvan was a good teacher with interesting lectures. Tests were difficult but I would definitely take another class with him.
This professor gave us a lot of opportunities to do well. We could do test corrections which boosted my grade a ton and I really appreciated it. For tests, I'd really study the reviews. The test reviews reflected the actual tests heavily, granted the test would be slightly harder. If you do the homework and quizzes, you're golden.
You are guaranteed to pass the class if you put in the work. Tests were very fair and graded leniently.
Dr. Yaghmayi is the best professor I have had in the math department. MATH3210 is absolutely brutal but he made it a very enjoyable experience. He is extremely organized, the expectations are very clear, his explanations are clear, and it was a well done class. If you have the chance to take him, you need to!
He's a cool guy. Doesn't beat around the bush. He's obviously not there to teach a freshman algebra class but he does a good job of teaching the material. Good luck getting a hold of him outside of class. If you have a good foundation of algebra already, you'll be fine.
The material was difficult for this class but he always gave opportunities to ask questions and he was really really really helpful in office hours. He's super encouraging and did an excellent job of keeping up with canvas/posting lecture videos.
Keyvan is a great professor! Not only does he do his best to make sure you understand, but he is also sweet! It is a math class so obviously it can be hard but if you put in the work, you can definitely pass.
Overall really great professor. He explains everything very well and his handwriting is really neat. His midterms and final exam mimic the practice exams so if you study the practice exam thoroughly you should be good. Homework could be heavy some weeks though...
Keyvan was an amazing professor. There was a moderate amount of homework, and the practice quizzes he gave were very similar in format and difficulty to the actual midterms and finals. The tests were very fair and graded very punctually. He has a rather heavy accent but the lectures are very easy to understand regardless. Great professor!
I loved taking calc2 from K1! He teaches concepts very well and is also very helpful in office hours. I always looked forward to class because his love for math is very infectious. He also seems like a genuinely funny person which was fun. "Let's say your worst enemy asks you to solve this integral..." hahaha got me every time! Highly recommend.
Amazing professor! I failed Calc II (in the form of AP Calc BC) twice before but managed to pass his class with an A, not because he made it too easy, but because he was a great professor with enjoyable and entertaining lectures.
Keyvan's Differential Equations and Linear Algebra class was insanely difficult and homework-heavy. Pros: 1. Every lecture is recorded, over half the class will just be watching from home Cons: 1. Keyvan teaches very slowly and sometimes quietly 2. Teaches through massive homework assignments 3. Brutal Exams that are a massive chunk of your grade
While Professor Yaghmayi is a really nice person, he does not really know how to teach. His lectures are verbatim to the textbook and talks in a very slow and quiet voice. His homework assignments were extremely long and exams were brutally made and graded. Honestly, I learned everything from youtube and google.
Not much I can say about Keyvan that hasn't been said. He doesn't do anything special, he just does everything right. Great at explaining concepts, amazing use of examples, one of the best experiences I have had with a class at this school. I was deathly afraid of Calc 2 after hearing horror stories, keyvan made it not scary.
Professor Yaghmayi was really great! He is very knowledgable, kind, funny, and makes concepts easy to understand. I do agree with some other ratings that say that he talks a bit quiet and sometimes doesn't answer the question asked. Overall, the class was straightforward, organized, and I learned a lot. I really enjoyed this class and professor.
Prof Yaghmayi is a very helpful and accommodating professor. His lectures are clear, thorough, and organized to make note-taking and understanding the material easier. Exams and quizzes are fair and his feedback on missed problems is very helpful. I would highly recommend taking a math course from him!
Great prof. who cares about students and makes going to class enjoyable everyday without fail.
His lectures are extremely structured, and follow very closely to the textbook (which I highly recommend as a resource). Quizzes can be challenging at times, but not out of scope of what you learn. Exams are really reasonable and not crazy hard. My personal favorite math teacher, highly recommend!
Good professor, but his teachings are basically reciting a simplified version of the textbook. He also posts notes online, so only 1/3rd of the class attended lectures by the end of the semester. The tests weren't too bad, but they're worth a very significant portion of your grade.
Keyvan was a really good lecturer, and made every confusing calc topic seem simple. He was super understanding of late assignments within reason and I would definitely take another class with him.
Very very very nice, great math teacher the concept just didn't click for me, but he is very patient and a great professor!
Keyvan is a great professor! He is super organized. Every assignment, note, and module is posted more than a month in advance. He even posts the keys for quizzes and test. He provides all the resources he possible can. It isn't easy content, but if you rework and thoroughly understand all the examples worked in lecture, you'll be in good shape.
His lectures are just the textbook. By the end of the semester, nobody shows up to class because his lectures are terrible. He's a very nice and funny dude but he has a very quite voice and a hard accent to understand.
Kev is the goat.
Truly a very kind professor, more times than not he went out of his way to make our courses more intuitive: He kept really organized notes, kept everything online in case you missed something, gave optional homework assignments that you could use for review, and was really patient with students questions. You can tell he wants you to pass
You will forget he even has an accent. His lectures are mainly examples, so its best to write them down for later. He can elaborate, but tests are mainly just your ability to do certain problems. If you've seen it once, you can do it again. Simple guy with a sense of humor. Strangely quizzes are hard and tests are easy. Homework is practice.
Keyvan is a fantastic teacher. He is somewhat quiet, but that poses absolutely no problems. His lectures are clear, he is very open on what assignments are due, when quizzes and tests are, and overall my favorite teacher this semester.
keyvan was the GOAT. great lectures. we all adored him
Amazing and kind instructor. Clear assignment, quiz, exam details. Provides optional practice problems for every homework assignment (great for pre-exam practice) and has informative lectures. Personally some of the topics were easier to learn on my own but his lecture style is informative and he always willing to change to better fit the class.
Keyvan was a very forgiving grader, and he frequently paused for questions during lectures. If you want to take MATH 2271, I would highly recommend him. I would warn you that the homework problems from Gilbert Strang's textbook were often difficult, so it is wise to go to the math tutoring center or office hours.
This was a very good class and I had a great time learning the material. There were times that I needed to learn certain topics on my own because they weren't covered in class very well. Other than that, great professor and class.
Such a great teacher. He lets you do midterm corrections to get 1/4 points back and gives you a cheat sheet on exams. He has group quizzes each week which help you learn the material. Exams were not tough. I would definitely take a class from him again.
Easily one of if not the best math instructors at the entire campus. Very neat and easily followed lectures, extremely patient when answering questions, and a clear love and passion for what he's teaching. You could not get better than K1
Up until this point I have struggled in every math class but for once, I understand things bc Keyvan is such an amazing professor. His lectures help so much bc he goes over examples clearly and makes everything make sense. Group quizzes in class aren't that bad, u can bring a mini formula sheet on tests. HW is from textbook, Tests are very fair!!!
He was a great professor. His lectures had a lot of examples so it was helpful to go to class even though attendance wasn't required. The homework was from textbook and pretty easy. We could take quizzes as a group but they were way harder than exams. He also gave extra credit for each midterm. Highly recommended!!
K1 is one of the best math professors at the U. His lectures were clear, and his handwriting is legible. His examples in class directly lined up with the homework, and he was clear on the steps. Open to questions. Had midterm corrections to make up lost points. Clear review criteria and helpful in office hours. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
I HATED 2200 but Keyvan made it very manageable and gave us chances to increase our grades with test corrections. His lectures were clear and helpful. Would take a class from him again 10/10
Keyvan was a great professor with a laidback but very effective teaching style. The lectures were informative and presented several examples that were present on the homework and exams. Ample resources on canvas such as practice exams and lecture notes made exams less stressful. Overall Keyvan was a caring and thoughtful calculus professor.
Keyvan (K1) was perfect for Number Theory this semester. Class was a breeze when attending lectures. Some of the proof-based homework problems were more difficult, but questions on the midterms always felt within my abilities. Always available outside of class and was willing to work with me. Weekly quizzes are group work and reflected the tests.
Keyvan gives really good, structured lectures. His handwriting is very neat, and he does everything very clearly. He understands what he's teaching, and is one of the few math professors at the University of Utah I would recommend.
Keyvan explains course concepts very clearly and the lecture slides are readily available and informative. He does many examples in class and makes sure everyone understands the course content, rather than whether they can answer the questions right. I highly recommend him.
All his notes are posted and extremely clear and concise. Everything that needs to be done is extremely well explained and clear. His test are kind of difficult sometimes but he is very forgiving with grading. If you put any effort in you will do well.
The lectures are very thorough and he goes over a lot of examples from the textbook.
Absolutely amazing professor I cannot recommend him enough. I have NEVER felt as confident in a courses material than I have for this class. He gives so much partial credit on tests, the homeworks are very applicable, the lab sessions are extremely well organized. I'm limited by the word count but I can rave about him forever he is a fantastic prof
I came into the class having a rough understanding of ODEs and left with a confident understanding of PDEs. He is an awesome teacher you can't go wrong with. I had the option to take another professor later in the day or Keyvan in early in the morning. I am very glad I chose him even if it was early in the morning. You really can't go wrong.
Keyvan is an outstanding professor. He is clear in his expectations and is a very easy grader. His homework does take a bit of time, but compared to other professors I have had, it was quite a bit less. I would recommend him to anyone who asks.
I've taken this professor twice and really enjoy his teaching style and organization. He gives fair partial credit on exams. Labs were harder than expected. Sadly, corrections aren't allowed anymore due to the math department. Overall, a great professor. My "C+" was due to an outside emergency on the day of the midterm, so don't let that scare you!
