class sessions are slow and boring. tests are predictable. you either get it, or you don't.
Not a good teacher at all. Mumbles constantly very lathargic. Gets mad if you leave to go to the bathroom.
Hard to understand, but good teacher, sweet grading system, sort of easy.
What a jerk he was. I spent more time in class trying to figure out what he was saying than i did with the work. He wasn't the most pleasant person either

Pretty good teacher, knows his stuff. class is very boring but easy...tests are very easy...the only problem is he thinks he's a high school teacher and doesn't let you leave the room and all these other **** rules

This guy is a jerk, doesn't even seem to know the subject that well himself. Doesn't use computers for the labs most of the time and caused my roommate to get a bad grade. Hard to understand and had horrible handwriting, I didn't make it the full year.
this guy is horrible. when i would ask questions after we get the exams back he would get really condecending and defensive. this leads me to believe that he has no idea what he is doing. also he mumbles b/c of a stroke he had back in the day.
Sure he slurs a little bit, and yes he has bad handwriting, but who cares. Late night class once a week, 2 hours and 30 minutes of work. No real way to teach discrete except the way he does, pounding out example after example. Very tedious, but effective.
THE worst teacher ever. I failed miserably....because when you go to him for help, he just treats you like a piece of crap. NEVER uses the computer (in a computers class??) gives A LOT of out of class work. HE IS HORRIBLE!
I dropped after a month--I had little knowledge of the subject, and after the class, that did not change. He seems very unenthusiastic about teaching, was condescending, accused me of cheating, humiliated and embarrassed me, handwriting impossible toread
I like him. Not because I got a D in his class. But he is thorough with his knowledge. I have taken him for another class as well. All you need to do is to show up to class ever day take good notes and actually do the practice problems. Go to his office..
Let's make this easy, if you do not think you can handle unreadable handwriting, a monotone, or repition of HW, do not take this class.
Wonderfully helpful, makes sure you understand before moving on. Easy to follow and eager to give assistance whenever necessary.

If the devil was incarnated as a teacher, this would be the guy. Worst teacher I've ever had. Extremely boring and not good at explaining relatively tough material.

Amer is a great teacher. If you want to just be handed a grade and learn nothing he's not the teacher for you, but if you want to learn something and earn what you get take Amer. Notes are key in his class.
he is so monotone,can't speak english,has the personality of a goat,i lauged while he was teaching and he kicked me out, he can't teach and when he trys he writes a math problem on the bored and expects you just to know how to do it and he's mean
I had him a few years ago, and he is the WORST teacher- has no compassion for what he does or for his students- I looked in my planner for a second and he threatened to throw me out. He doesn't teach- I didn't get help fro mhim because he didn't offer, another student helped. Horrible teacher.
It's not that he's hard, it's just that he's boring. The key to his class is memorization. He tells you exactly what questions are on the tests, just memorize the answers and you'll do fine.
Not difficult course work but it was difficult to stay awake.

this man sux at teaching, i took programming in H.S. so its easier for me. Anyone who hasnt taken it gets lost easily because he never explains anything. if someone tells him a better way to write a code he gets all pissy and argues although the student is right. besides he looks like a chia pet

Obviously a very smart man, but definitely more of a professor than a teacher. He's unbelievably efficient in everything he says/teaches, and it almost seems like he expects you to get it right the first time. If you're there to learn and pay attention, you can appreciate him much more. I never had any problems with him.
was very patient and cared if the students understood the material. a very kind, smart, and patient teacher. tests were very easy. pay attention and take notes and you should do well. and don't be afraid to ask questions!

He uses the same notes from like 10 years ago. Seriously, just study your notes THATS IT!!! ALl his exams come exactly from his notes. He's not the most helpful either

Many of the comments regarding Amer's poor teaching are right on the mark. However, I must defend him as a person. You have to make the effort, but if you get to know him he is an incredible and warm guy. He was a great mentor for me at Rowan.
Perhaps Amer is intelligent, however, a teacher's job is to teach and care about his students. He was only interested in helping students who understood the material right away. His mistake is assuming that anyone who is stuck is not doing their work. His lectures are boring and his attitude seemed to imply that he was too smart to be teaching s
Other than the fact that i'd rather eat sh!t than attend his class... his english is sooo bad i thought he said that logerythems(sp) were not going to be on the final and they ended up being 3 pages of the final. Needless to say i struggled with the class. If you are stuck with him, I would advise you to to take it pass/fail.
Good teacher but hes quite weird. he knows how to teach his stuff but he has to go on and on for 2 1/2 hours. yea sometimes i have to fight falling asleep, one drawback there. just pay attention and you will get an A....AMER THE HAMMER
Spews out information and clearly hates to help people that don't understand. His english is not as bad as his handwriting. You can't understand half the words on the board, and when you ask what he wrote, he gets angry. Exams are difficult and doesn't go over them when you get them back. A 51 and above is passing.
This man is probably the worst professor that I have ever had not only in my college career but in my educational career as a whole. He has no social skills and cannot speak English. Whoever hired this guy has committed a serious crime.
He is really misunderstood. He speaks clearly. As long as you are respectful during class and pay attention he answers any questions you have. In my opinion he is a good teacher. He reviews the day before the test and during his review explains EXACTLY what you need to focus on for the test, his test are MORE than fair! I would def, take him again
He is a nice man and is a fair professor. As long as you pay attention to him in class.. you will have NO PROBLEM AT ALL with his test! Had him years ago, since then I have received a graduate degree and of all the classes I have ever had - he was the worst teacher. Not including his broken English, he was condesending, and really could care less about his students. To this day, I still tell horror stories of him. I cannot understand why someone like him would go into teaching.
He is the Worst. Whatever you wanna tell about him will never gonna be enough. He doesn't care how he is teaching, his accent (lecture) is disgusting, his handwriting is the worst thing, of all. He is not KIND to his students nor does he knows how to be polite. He punishes who comes even 5 min. late or students who even ask others 'what time it is'
Although monotone which can be distressing for some, If you follow WHY Amer does what he does in the notes and on the board as opposed to memorizing what's on the board you should be able to do great. He doesn't check homework but does offer solutions for them and his quizzes/tests are completely based off the homework. An easy grade ifurinterested
This guy is pathetic. He is not social at all & really hates to help students. In his class no body can come late and no body can even whisper. I don't know how he manages to teach like these, years after years.

If you are 'A' grade students in Math (any course) & can stand someone who is by personality, worst kind, only then may be you can take the risk. otherwise avoid this guy, at any cost.

At first his tone is a little hard to follow, but he writes on the board exactly what he says, word for word, so pay attention and follow along. ask questions to show interest, approach him after class and he'll talk to you, don't be rude in class and you can still have a good time. [hes great for charities too, he'll donate!]
I was too afraid to ask questions because of what I heard. He also shows no emotions when teaching and is hard to follow because he mumbles, his accent, and his bad handwriting. He seems irritable then most other professors. Avoid him if you can. It's not worth the time when there are other professors. He also uses notes like from ten years ago.
he is not hard at all. everything is right out of the book. in class he does half the homework problems and goes over the answers. the other half are given for homework but gives you time at the begining of class if you have any questions. test/quizzes come directly from the homework. all you have to do is study the homework to get a good grade.
It's true, he's god awful. Ever since I did well in his Discrete class last semester, though, he always says hello to me in the halls and acts like I'm his best friend. Befriending him, while hard, is probably a good idea. Could come in handy. I remember I made him smile and even laugh a little IN CLASS. I felt like I deserved a trophy.
I was so scared going into this class because of all the comments on here, but he is really not bad at all. He can be mean and doesn't like when anyone makes any noise, but he's a good teacher and he's very helpful and gets straight to the point. I would definitely take him again if I could.
If the decision were to either take this professor or have to take an extra semester just to not take him. I would lean towards taking another semester. You can;t understand what he says, or what he writes. I have never experienced or heard of a professor this bad ever. I'm begging you to make every attempt possible to not take this professor!!!!!!

Tests are all from semester before, so find somebody and you'll be set. Jerk in class. Was in the hostipal for a few days, and he still refused to take my late work. i had to go to the chair of the dept.
Unlike other reviews his handwriting isn't that bad. He speaks and then writes what he says and he speaks at writing pace so keeping up should not be a problem. If you cannot keep up, you can ask him to repeat whatever you missed. It isn't that hard. His speaking, though a bit muffled is not as horrible as people put it out to be. Good teacher tho.
he talks as if he is more bummed about the class than you are. Which makes it hard to under stand him because he speaks in such a monotone.
I agree with everybody else, i have never gotten below an A in any math class in my life until i took this guy. I usually have no problem acing math classes but this guy just makes it so much harder then it should me. not mention he makes the class terribly boring, i too would rather take an extra semester over dealing with this guy for another day
Hes not that bad, all he does is problems from the book, quizes are easy tests arent to bad if you follow along in the class, if you miss a class you will miss a lot of information, his voice is strange, but he writes out every step on how to solve a problem which is helpful for looking back at notes
I thought he was an okay teacher. Not as bad as everyone said he was going to be. If you stay for the entire 3 hours and review the exact questions he tells you will be on the test you will do well. everyone is just complaining because they are lazy.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! I WOULD FALL BEHIND A SEMESTER GLADLY TO AVOID GETTING HIM AGAIN. IF I HAD A TBA PROFESSOR AND HE WALKED IN THE FIRST DAY I WOULD GET UP WALK OUT AND DROP THE CLASS. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE
An incredibly tough teacher whose hard to understand, his hand writing is terrible, and mono-tone voice makes it hard to focus in the class, let alone learn much. He doesn't exactly teach, he just goes on writing on the board. Good luck to you if you take him; you're gonna need it.
This man should not be teaching. When he walks in the room you will become instantly miserable. He does not care about students. He clearly hates his job and is not afraid to show it. Yells at you for going to the restroom in a 2 1/2 hour class. Does not show corrections on tests, speeds through attendance, horrible monotone voice and accent
Foundations of Computer Science was the class. A lot of people do not like Amer and in some ways this is understandable. He doesn't speak very loud and his handwriting is terrible. His grading scale is fantastic, the quizzes are easy if you study. The tests are hard. The final was ridiculously hard. Is useful at office hours.
AVOIDD AT ALL COSTS
Was skeptical to start the year with amer after reading others. But he is a knowledgable guy. Its easy to get 100 on every quiz as long as you take notes. Write every word he writes on the board in your notebook. He uses same examples in class and homework as on the tests and quizes. If you need help go to office hours he is the nicest guy.
Great Teacher. Tuff at first but he eventually slows down and wants you to succeed. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to learn, and get an A for going to class and taking some notes here and there.
horrible. just puts questions up on the board. when you ask a question he just acts like you're dumb for not knowing it prior to asking. he doesn't teach the concept or explai nwhat you are doing, just writes the questions on the board and solves them. very monotone and boring. if you're a minute late to class may god help you.
Hard class. Really annoying teacher. I couldn't help but to fall asleep like everyday. Couldnt understand him very well, and he talks very monotonously. If you CAN pay attention, the class probably isnt that hard, just really annoying.
Terrible!! Monotone naskly voice makes it impossible to follow his lecture. Terrible handwriting, and no textbook to read on your own because quote"My Notes are better then any text book" he got offended when i told him i couldnt learn from the notes alone. He is NOT willing to help you!!! Never take him, i dont care your reason just DONT TAKE HIM!

Horrible professor! Very monotonous and sounds miserable to be there. Does not allow you to leave the room during a lecture, and if you do will tell you to stay after class. Terrible at explaining anything, and on top of that can barely read what he puts on the board. No idea how this guy is still teaching, half his class probably fails.

Absolutely terrible. Had him from Discrete Structures and Calc 1 in the same semester...everyone i knew in his class was taking it a 2nd or 3rd time...seriously take someone else...either that or skip that semester of school...its completely not worth the time and money and having it drop your GPA...if you take him you WILL need to retake the class
Very difficult to understand, not the best teacher. Clearly very intelligent and education man. It seems like hes just frustrated from years of poor students and has given up. Despite his faults, he is easy to work with if you give him a chance. He is a bit condescending in class, but very nice if you talk to him one on one in office hours.
At first, he comes off as the worst teacher ever. Monotone voice that I personally compared to Snape from Harry Potter. Anyway, he isn't as bad as you think once the course gets going. He goes over everything in pretty good detail. Seems unapproachable but I heard he's actually nice. Material is okay. Sorta easy B if your somewhat math inclined.
Had him for intro to scientific programming, he outlines the information fairly well on the board, and his tests are fair. the class is boring, but then again its scientific programming, most people don't like it anyway. at first he seems awful, but if you respect him, he is not at all. just write down all the examples he puts on the board
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever met. Teaches class without the use of a textbook, and provides no background on the subject, as if we knew it coming in. Worst of all, 3 tests, and all they require is MEMORIZATION of all his notes, VERBATIM, and then just regurgitate it on the test. You learn NOTHING. Totally unapproachable, unfriendly
Hard to understand, unwillingly to help for the most part. No mandatory homework, 3 or 4 tests w/ quizzes. Aside from that, he outlines everything with incredible precision, if you can follow what he's teaching the class will be pretty easy for you. Deep down, guy is probably a genius.. just not a socially adept one.
Had for intro to scientific programming. A pretty good teacher, he understands the programming very well, its just that he doesn't know how to deal with students. Very friendly when actually talked to, only in actual class time is he mean/condescending. Boring class, but easy to get a good grade in.
He does his own thing, in a horrible monotone voice. If you dont understand the nonsense on the board you have to hope there is a youtube video explaining it. The book is the worst book i've ever used, provides bad explanations and extremely hard examples that are not explained in the text at all. Sucks that no other teachers teach this class.
He was so funny with his monotone voice. He was alright, but everyone made fun of him so he couldn't really teach much.
He's super easy and straight forward. He's not personable at all but he literally gives you the answers to the test the class beforehand. He's dry but he's a good professor
He's very straight forward with his expectations for you as a student. He is open to questions and goes over every type of problem you could see on a test. The class before exams, he reviews the specific material that will be on the exam. If you're having trouble, go to his office hours and he will help.
He's the epitome of robot. I had him for discrete and foundations the following semester. Monotone while writing EVERYTHING you need on the board from beginning to end. Go to his office hours for help. I would HIGHLY DISCOURAGE taking him for anything passed discrete.. if you can't make his hours,you may fail. Avoid any courses passed foundations.
We learned the first day not to ask questions. He snapped at a student who was confused. He does not allow anyone to use the bathroom. He talks to the board so his terrible voice is more incomprehensible. He won't go over test questions in class because there's no time, then let's us out 10 minutes early. Avoid at all costs.
Wow! Can a Professor really be this bad? Terrible! Does not care one bit about his students! Avoid this guy at all costs! I took Calculus I with him- He gave me an "F" (I got All A's in other classes)- Next semester, he is only one teaching- he gave me an "F"- Next Semester finally someone else was teaching Calc I.. And I got an "A"- Go Figure!
I took Dr. Amer for Discrete and for Foundations. He is a straight forward teacher and takes no non-sense. You must read the textbook and do ALL homework to get a decent grade in the class. His style is old school SO you won't forget what you taught you years later. He was tough then and I appreciate it now (job wise).
