This professor was different but his classes were very interesting.I thought he was weird at first but when you get used to his sence of humor, his class becames fun. His test were not all that difficult if you write everything you know on the subject. He likes volume and gives wkly assignments and readings. if you don't mind that, you'll do ok
He rocked my socks off in this class. He is the only professor I've had at this school that actually makes students think from an entirely new perspective. He's passionate about what he teaches and he doesn't play around. He gets right to the point and doesn't waste any time. Elayan is awesome. Take the class, you won't regret it!
Dr. Elayen is amazing! The books I read during the semester really challenged my opinions. I enjoyed his easy going approach and humor that didn't always make sense. I highly recommend him. ** You do have to read and put forth a decent effort on your papers though.
You have to read alot in his classes and he is pretty strict, but fair, on paper grading. The class is usually very laid back and he gets to the point and gets class done instead of wasting time.
He was a great teacher. He was really fun in class and his class was my favorite class this semester. He cares about his students passing and he is very passionate about what he teaches. I highly recommend him.
Very cool teacher! nice! thinks "out of the box" (revolutionary!! cool!) Lots of reading, but its cool! just do the work and you'll make an A!
A little bit harder than his 1101 class, but still one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I had him for 1101,1102, and 2110 and thinking about taking him for something else! He is an amazing teacher, you read awesome books, and he really opens up your mind! I can honestly say he cares about all his students and that he will help you when needed! My writing improved. I HIGHLY recommend him! And he has an amazing personality!
Very interesting Professor, laid back, and speaks of intersting topics. Read Three interesting books a semester and then write a 3 to 4 pg. paper on a given topic of the book. Not too hard but you do have to read
He is a great person to work with, he is still young and enthusiastic! There is a lot of reading and writing papers on argumentation of theories and character traits. As long as you keep up with the reading he is always willing to work with you!
REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR! I would take any classes he teaches in the future. Required some reading, but we always discussed it in class. Major grades were 3 papers, journals(20), and a documentary presentation. he is always interesting to be in class; he made me WANT to show up for his class. he was very helpful and knowledgeable. Check plus
Great professor! Classes are interesting and his book selections were fun to read and I hate reading. He gives pop quizzes but related to homework. You have to do journal topics, write a 6 to 7 pg paper, take pop quizzes, and a mid term and final, extra credit assignments. If you read the books, you should have no problems in his class.
My favorite teacher ever! It's a pretty easy class, but I would take him again even if he failed me. The books that are assigned are really intriguing and never bore you. He has the best personal stories about robberies and near-death experiences. He always has something clever to say and kept my interest! Highly recommend.
interesting, creative teacher - totally hot as well doesn't hurt! acts tough at beginning, but really nice.
He is EXTREMELY thoughtful and makes you reason everything out. He really knows what he's talking about and class goes by quickly. My favorite prof EVER.
Can be crude at times, but an EXCELLENT, thoughtful teacher, funny, but still knows how to think, and more importantly, teach.
this guy is awesome. he's really funny and actually knows what he's talking about too
The BEST English professor ever!! He made you think outside of the box and always made this class interesting. He made us laugh with all his bizarre stories. He wasn't strict on attendance but trust me, you would not want to skip his class. I'm taking him again for 1102, can't wait!
He's one of guys that makes reading a little bit more enjoyable. He has a fresh style and I can tell that he really likes what he's doing. Homework basically consisted of reading and one paper mid-semester.
Great teacher. Makes you really think. Laughs at himself alot. He gives a random quiz now and then over the class readings. Besides that a couple of journals and a 5-6 page paper at the end of the semester. Lectures were informative and really enjoyable. Overall really easy class. Just do the readings and write the papers. Great teacher.
Dr. Elayan is freakin AWESOME!His classes are really laid back and no tests. A couple of papers throughout the semester but he isnt a strict grader. He is willing to help people i lost my binder and still made an A. Definatley take this guy.
He is hysterical. He likes to show Youtube videos which is great. His essay topics can be a little hard if you have a problem with thinking outside the box. But overall, his class isn't hard and I plan on taking him again.
I had him for 1101 and he is by far my favorite professor here! He makes the class enjoyable and always cracks jokes. He's very laid and helps you out a lot with your papers. He's not out to get you at all. Just be prepared for pop quizzes over the reading but other than that, he's easy. His class is NOT worth skipping at all!
He rambles a lot in class and this makes it very hard to determine what is going to be covered on the test. To others, this makes him cool, but if it ends up hurting my grade it just ticks me off.
amazing teacher very laid back and easy to talk to. Pop quizzes on books(don't count for much)no tests, a few papers 3 major and a few minors ones and a video project. almost all his assignments are fun except for the major papers. He shows southpark as well as many funny movies in class as topics for minor papers.
Great professor! Easy, fun, and awesome. If you can, take him. ASAP.
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best teachers I have had at KSU, great professor and very understanding and he knows his stuff. If you can take his class, you will learn and enjoy his class at the sametime. If you do what you are supposed to do then you will get an A or lowest a B. I would take him again!!
Great professor, very out of the box and interesting. Knows his stuff but doesn't take himself too seriously.
This professor is interesting but his assignments are just pointless busy work. Very knowledgeable and easy to connect with, but his work load is enormous along with the three books a student is required to read. When you aren't reading, you are working on another assigned paper. Not a level 1 professor. Take someone else.
The best professor I've had at KSU by far. I highly recommend taking him! Lots of reading and writing but it's not difficult - just show up to class and pay attention.
I like Elayan a lot, and he makes class interesting with his stories. I'm just a little disappointed by his lack of in-class discussions. We wrote 3 papers and read 3 books, definitely manageable. The final was a group film project(which was in and of itself), but I advise everyone to pick their groups wisely.
Higly educated professor, The best i had at KSU, very knowledgable and instresting at discussions.. Knows what he;s talking about and teaching..
BEST teacher I've EVER had!! After taking him for 1102 I'm now taking him again for 2110. I actually looked forward to going to his class because I knew he'd have something real to say. Funny, smart guy and very approachable. You have to read, but I would recommend him to anyone.
amazing prof.very smart and very eduational.you will get something out of his class and out of his papers.it's an amazing class that makes you think.
This man change my whole outlook on literature. Extremely smart and very interesting. I would highly recommend him to someone who wants to learn and make an A. Do the papers and the readings are great too. This is dominant and is a must have for world lit.
he doesn't take attendance, but you'll miss out on a lot if you don't go. Going to Elayan's class isn't a chore though. Just read the books and it's something to look forward to. Prof. Elayan is still the best teacher I've ever had!!! He's smart and funny. I HIGHLY recommend his class.
Does anyone know what you have to read for ENGL/2110?
This was an honors class and I loved it. At first I was like OMG, but he's a cool professor who makes you write and think. Loved most of the novels. I would say the hardest part about the class are the papers, make sure you go and talk to him and the writing center for any help. I hate group projects, but ours wasn't bad. Start on it early.
Dr. E rocks! His lectures are like stories.Random easy quizzes given so always read. 1 midterm (easy) and 1 final (not comprehensive easier than midterm). 1 5pg paper on a book analysis. No essays on tests. There are 5 short books,we ran out of time to read the last one.Attend. taken randomly. Easy A, you will leave wiser & appreciate books more!
I hate going to class and I never missed one of his. He is the man
If you guys are fans of the comedian George Carlin, you will love this class. Class is absolutely wonderful. Thousand year old works of lit were compared and exemplified with modern day situations and life. ***READ THE ASSIGNED READINGS RELIGIOUSLY*** or you will fail. He is a wake up call for the masses.
He is AMAZZZINGGGGGG!!! omg take his class if u can because seriously he is the MAN!
He is wonderful! I absolutley love his class!
Professor Elayan is a great guy. He is hilarious! But I did not like this course. You read a bunch of ancient texts that all have the same sort of concepts. 4 tests, and no other grades. His tests are kind of ridiculous. Overall, I enjoyed his teaching style but not the material.
He is awesome--take him! It's heavy reading, but they're interesting books. He never uses the argument text that the department requires. He grades his papers moderately, but tests/quizzes are easy. He is so much fun, and you'll be so glad that you took his class!
Okay. He's super hot from far away. He looks like the evil guy from the Mummy. He's super funny and if you just pay attention, you will ace his tests. You have to pay attention to what people ask in class, because his answer to students questions might show up on the test. 4 tests including the final. I'm going to ace his class.
Very intelligent, slightly creepy due to his tastes in books, and has a great sense of humor. A bit of a smartass, and enjoys debate of any kind. The most enjoyable class I've ever had. His standards for essays are high, but he makes it fairly clear what he wants. Pay attention in class, and he'll listen to you. Highly recommend him.
Absolutely despised him at first because of his crude sense of humor but I got used to him and his teaching style and ended up acing the class. Tests are difficult. Interesting guy who definitely entertains.
Warning. Yes, this teacher may be hilarious and fun, but his lectures need some work. They were often too silly. Hardly could I ever take notes because everything seemed to irrelevant and ludicrous. Hence his tests are also peculiar. No PWPTs--he likes to hear himself talk. The oddest subjects show up on the test, so write down EVERYTHING he says.
Considering the topic, this is probably the best way to go. It's not an easy class because you have ALOT of reading. Make sure to highlight everything he mentions in class, it will most likely come up on a test. Don't guide yourself with cliff notes or you will fail!! I'd take another class with him for sure.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time reading. It is important to come to class and make note of passages he goes over. His test are not predictable so you must know the material. He's a good and entertaining teacher. I'd take him again.
If you value your GPA, do NOT take his class. Hard to pay attention because he often veers off topic. Expects you to read complete books in 2 days. Very crude humor and somehow, everything relates to sex. Tests are difficult complete with "all of the above" and "none of the above" responses. Straight A student with a D- thanks to this man.
very good teacher, i learned a lot from all of his lectures. he requires a lot of reading, so buy the books ahead of time. come to class cuz he gives quizzes and does in class assignments that you can't get credit for if you're not there. really loves teaching english. i will be taking him again. (looks like vin disel)
Awesome teacher. You have to read a LOT, but its all good stuff. Definitely worth waking up early and fighting traffic to be there. His tests kinda suck tho because a lot of the time you second guess yourself because something's "too simple" to be the answer. Probably because of how in depth lectures are. I'd say definitely take him if you can.
Nice guy and good lectures. You have to attend class though and follow the lectures. He does not give you much in the way of study guides or resources. Grade consists of 4 test and thats it. So do bad on one and you are pretty much fighting the whole semester to pass.
Khalil is an interesting professor. His book selection is rather odd but his enthusiasm and class discussion make it more tolerable. The most important thing in order to make an A is attending every class and listening/making note of everything he talks about since that is the majority of what is tested on. It helps a ton to actually read the books
Best professor I've had at KSU yet.
Great prof! Take his class if you can! This class requires a little work on your part; reading namely. Easy to pay attention in class bc he is hilarious. Test cover a lot of what he says in class about readings, so pay attention. Just make sure you are prepared for test bc there are not a whole lot of grade opportunities. TAKE HIM!!!
Really, really awesome guy. As long as you do the reading and pay attention in class you'll do great! AND, he's pretty nice to look at ;)
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE CLASS. I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE THIS CLASS. His lectures are so hard to follow because he is random & just starts talking about random things. No real notes. The test are about 25 questions and are randomly chosen. Going into the test you never know how or what to study. DO NOT TAKE! he loves the Iliad..
The professor is good. He goes off on tangents but his tests are from the points he makes over and over again. The wording from the tests is a little difficult to understand, but if you follow the class and review the notes, the tests are easier. Pay attention. That is the number one thing you have to do in this class
Great professor, but bad class. He is good with small classes like ENGL 1101/2- I took him for 1102 and it was a great experience. But world lit was bad...too big of a class. He isnt good with lecture courses, he's more for group discussions. You have to read for his class, or you'll fail no doubt. Best teacher Ive had yet. Just dont take his 2110.
His classes are really interesting. He's really good at telling you exactly what he expects for you to know. Yeah, it's a lot of reading, but really, welcome to college. Just be sure to keep up with the readings, try to participate in class, and go to class. Attendance isn't taken since it's a huge lecture class, but it's in your best interest.
I did not enjoy this class. He randomly went on rants that had nothing to do with the material & mumbled, making it hard to understand him. His tests are based on his opinions, so take notes if you can. The books didn't seem to be a necessity for the class. Regardless, you'll either love him or "dislike" him. He is easy on the eyes, though.
This proffessor is off the chain, if you want someone fun and energetic who loves what he teaches, then take him. You def. HAVE to read thru the books, and if u dont have time, look through sparksnotes. listen and take notes in class, even if its something pretty weird that he's said.take notes anyway cuz it might b on the exam. really fun and funny
I've had him for Engl 1101 and 2110 and loved both classes. By far, he's the most intelligent professor I've had. He knows what he's talking about and enjoys teaching. The required books to read are really interesting especially when he goes over them. He's also very helpful if you have questions. He's great!
Professor Elayan was very knowlegable and intresting to listen to in his lectures. I was in a huge class and attendance was not mandatory. I did however attend every lecture and did quite well on his tests. He gives alot of extra credit so even if you dont read one of the books you can still do well in class. TAKE NOTES and I guarantee a good grade
Prof. Elayan is awesome! He's so funny and makes morning classes interesting. He's also very helpful and doesn't take attendance. No final, three papers, random in-class quizzes on reading, rare writing assignments. Overall his class is very fun and easy. TAKE HIM.
Very passionate about what he teaches.loves to act out the characters. I didnt like to read much before his class, but he made it fun and interesting. I even got my teenager involved in the stories. Dr. E. starts out a little rough around the edges, but once you see his real character, you will love his class. gives extra credit opportunities.
He was the main reason why I started reading again. The stories he picked out were interesting, and I would want to read after class. I would take him over again if I still had some english Gen-Ed left.
Professor Elayan is a good guy and passionate about what he teaches.. very energetic and has ace-able tests. Pay attention in class and read his bullet points religiously and you will pass with flying colors
One of the best engl profs. Only 4 tests and opportunities for extra cred in 250 person classes. Great humor and is very helpful and cares about his students even though he could'nt hope to learn all their names. Selected novels are great and entertaining.Lectures fun and engaging. Take him, even if you have to take an early or late class, take him
Amazing professor!!! Very entertaining lectures, just read the books/poems he tells you to read and listen in class and you'll be fine.
This man is the best Lit. Professor/teacher I've ever had. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well. I didn't even read any of the full books we were supposed to read, but didn't miss a single class and took good notes and got an A. I honestly didn't study much. He makes class fun and interesting. Take him if you can!
He is really helpful and super nice!!!!! Excellent teacher
Best teacher ever. Very easy to uderstand and tells you upfront what he expects you to know. Excellent teacher!
Best English Professor at Kennesaw! He's a great teacher and his class is very entertaining. You definitely won't get bored in his class. He's passionate about his teaching and I would definitely take him again! He's the best teacher I have ever had!
Best English Professor at Kennesaw! He's a great teacher and his class is very entertaining. You definitely won't get bored in his class. He's passionate about his teaching and I would definitely take him again! He's the best teacher I have ever had!
He is a great guy and has a heart for what he teaches. Covers a lot of texts & exams are all based on what he says in lecture. So, attend class and take notes. The material is not hard and you can get by just reading and understanding the texts. Lecture can be boring as its big class he just stands and talks, but, he is a very animated lecturer.
Such a boring reading list. I hated his lectures they were repetitive and so boring. But not a hard class. Never went and didnt really try and got a B
This professor is the best show up for class, pay attention and youll do well on his test. No need in reading any books he test straight from lecture. This man has actaully makes literature fun , that coming from a person who cant stand it.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! and make sure you take his large class because THERE ARE NO PAPERS! He truly is an exciting teacher and very helpful. So easy if you know what happens in the books.
HE IS SO HOT! Easy to listen to and very nice. Keep up with the readings, and if you take a large class then there are no papers to write, which sounds like a blessing, but it puts responsibility on the student to keep up with notes and whats going on. Great class, great professor.
Excellent professor! Very animated lectures and creates interest in literature that would otherwise not be so interesting. The large class is easy, but the smaller class is probably harder but worthwhile.
Absolutely wonderful teacher. I recommend him to everyone. Almost no tests, 3 papers, just be clear about you're writing and back it up with evidence and you'll get a good grade. Do the reading and listen in class and you'll be fine. If he has a class open, take him. He's arguably the best english professor at KSU.
Great prof. Gives normal difficulty tests, easy tests if you study a decent amount. Lectures are funny, and very active. Had some people in the crowd I could care less about, but still the class was good with his humor. Makes the class more of a "make you think" experience more than a world lit class. Goes in depth with readings.
not an easy class whatsoever! if you don't go to class and take notes you WILL NOT make an A.Most people who sat around me all made C's. i kinda lucked out making an A. The only grades are 4 tests grades and they are about 30 questions on each test. so pretty much if you screw up one test..you're done.He is really interesting and entertainingthough
Don't take this class unless you are ready to put in the effort. There are only 4 tests, and you must know the material inside and out to do well. He gave one extra credit, and took away the other from us because we "talked too much". I made a C because I honestly did not pay enough attention. Overall, a really witty and intelligent professor.
LOVED him. He is a great teacher and the class is easy if you pay attention and go to class. I easily made an A without the extra credit and all I did was pay attention and take notes, I even missed a few classes. He's super hot and entertaining. My best English teacher ever. I loved the reading list too. Take him!
I would not recommend taking this professor. He is a very nice individual and makes class interesting. On the other hand, he is tough on grading. This professor is not afraid to give you a low grade. He says he gives you extra credit, but it's very little. I love english, but this is an exam based class and no side assignments.
Easy, easy class if you attend and take notes. I made A's on everything. He posts a few notes online, but to really understand what he wants you to know you have to go to class and listen. The tests are only over the readings. Easiest class ever.
Easy class if you read the book and attend the lecture. His exams come from what he says in class as he points out specific examples. Very animated lecture however he gets boring sometimes. His sense of humor is kind of crude so if you can't handle that then don't take him. His exams were simple if you pay attention. 4 Exams.
Elayan definitely keeps you interested. Everything on the tests are specifically from things he has said in class. Easy A if you come to class. 4 tests, no final, and one easy 300 word writing assignment. definitely recommend.
He's a very interesting teacher, and his required material is definitely not the 2110 standard, but it was a good class. Tests come EXACTLY from what he says in class. He tends to ramble...alot, but they're always interesting if nothing else. Really wings his lessons, but again it was a good class and hes very entertaining.
Entertaining lectures. You MUST attend class. I missed quite a few classes of his and ended with a B but made all As in my other 3 classes which were all 3k or 4k level. Simply reading the material or getting notes from others is not enough. You have to be in class and pay attention, because he tests on specific things he says.
I love him!!! He is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had.He is so funny and entertaining, but his class is not easy. Go to class and pay attention. He literally makes me laugh out loud every class so its not hard to pay attention. I would definitely recommend him!
Honestly, this class reminded me why I love English again. We didn't have to think one-mindedly and he left plenty of class time for discussions alone! He genuinely cares about the people in the class, especially those who got to know him. He had a rough semester because of fam issues, but I would do this class all over again. Extraordinary man.
He is a unique guy, that's for sure. A typical class consists of him reading over the text of the day and giving lecture on it. You're responsible for everything he says. I recommend recording the lectures for later review. It really helped me. I HATE reading so that part was tough, but I had to take the class. Got a B and was satisfied.
Girls..Take him! Never had an attractive professor until this class and his class is So fun. He is so down to earth and acts like he's one of us. Pay attention in class, read the material, and you'll do great!
Dr Elayan is a really great professor!! Readings are interesting. This was a summer class. 3 papers, a journal & glossary. Fun in-class assignments. He engages the class in his lectures. Grades assignments & papers fairly. He is always open to helping you achieve success in his class. Make no mistake about it, he is the professor to take!
This professor does not give you a study guide and goes off on tangents. He has an unusual was of teaching and an unusual way of giving his test. Whatever he says is on the test and nothing else.
He is so funny but he does go off on tangents a LOT. Read the material and show up to class and LISTEN. Everything he says is usually on the tests.
Best English professor I have ever had. Don't have to read any of the books, just come to class and take notes, he goes off on random stories that are hilarious, canceled class alot which I liked, and he gave extra credit. I didn't really have to do anything in this class and it turned out very easy.
Fantastic teacher. If you go to lecture and read the material it's an easy A. It's really not that hard, as his tests come directly from what he says in class. The only way to fail this class is to either not go, or stay on your laptop the entire time. His lectures are very entertaining and informative.
Great professor, funny guy. He doesn't treat you like you're a bunch of kids, unlike many of the professors I've had. Do the reading and take notes in class. He doesn't do powerpoints so pay attention to what he says because it shows up on exams sometimes. Overall, great class. Do yourself a favor and sign up for it.
Dr. Elayan is by far one of my favorite professors ever. He is such a sweet heart and loves teaching. Everyday of class is like a new adventure. He tells great stories. Dr. Elayan is a very interesting man. He has a great outlook on life and incorporates it into his teaching. Take him if you want to work hard, learn a lot, and have fun!
take his 250 student class! only 4 multiple choice test. 1 paper. doesn't take attendance. he's super funny. no powerpoints must take your own notes and read 4 short stories.
He is absolutely hilarious. Always keeps the class interesting, which is great so early in the morning. He is knowledgable and his class is not too hard as long as you pay attention.
Great professor. Easy grader. keeps class interesting. Loved his class and the way he teaches. He's an awesome guy and extremely helpful. We had to write 3 papers, make 1 video and had 2 quizzes over some readings. It was a great class and he is an awesome professor. Take him if you can!
Good professor, attendance not mandatory, but if you do not go to class you won't know what to study...only things professor says is on the exams. His exams are rough in that they aren't right or wrong, but "best right" answer...to me this is subjective but, wasn't a hard class. 4 exams and 1 paper. No cumulative final.
Professor Elayan is awesome! SOOOOO helpful whenever I needed him. Always was in his office during the hours he said he would be in. Checked my papers before I turned them in and I always made an A. Learned a lot from this class. TAKE HIM!
Class is very boring, however you really need to pay attention if you want to make an A. Test are usually based on what he says in class so attendance is critical. 4 kind of difficult tests, 2 extra credit opportunities and a paper are all the grades. Take him if you know you'll pay attention
Awesome professor with a great sense of humor. Very attractive so that makes class fun. Pay attention in class because all test material is straight from what he says.
Excellent instructor! He doesn't use the text book, just picks books and poems to read for the class! I found his class to be amazingly fun! Topics are great, and he has a great sense of humor. He made the subject more interesting.
English is my least favorite subject, but Khalil is my favorite teacher! He knows how to teach in a way to keep you interested. You'll do hard assignments without realizing that they're hard, because with his help & with your interest- they end up being simple. Essays are easy because he checks it so you can fix your errors before you turn it in!
Awesome Professor. 4 test, like 2 mini quizzes, and 1 short paper (400 words). Goes over everything you need to know for tests. You don't really need to read the reading either, he talks about them in class. Definitely recommend taking him.
Very passionate teacher, but his tests are extremely detailed about what he talks about in class. I recommend a study buddy who takes detailed notes.
Literally the best and most awesome professor! His class is fun and so educational. He is a superb teacher...I would take his class many times. You get the grade based on how much effort you put into the class and he can tell if you care enough to receive a good grade.
The man is very passionate about his literature for sure. You absolutely have to pay attention in class and take good notes because that's what the tests are over. Just reading the book won't be nearly enough.
Dr. K is very relaxed and understanding of his students. He talks about very cool topics and keeps you interested. Somedays, He will realize the class is not feeling it and dismiss early. Because of this we come ready to learn other days. 3 papers and a media project. He will look at any draft you send him and help out. Really great teacher & guy!
pay attention in lectures because the tests are very specific and test material is closely gone over in lecture
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! He is so funny and knows his stuff. Very passionate and hilarious. I have no negative things to say! Take him!!!
Professor Elayan is pretty cool. He is really funny and you never expect what he is going to do next. He is a fair grader, likes participation in class, and does not assign too much reading. Not a very difficult class at all.
Elayan inspired me to change my degree to English (from Nursing). Only 3 papers, 1 group video project, and a few easy assignments. Grading for essays isn't strict, just follow directions and make your argument clear and concise. Also, lots of philosophical debates! I learned so many life lessons from this class. Very laid back atmosphere.
Lectures can sometimes go right over your head because of how intelligent this man is. He is very funny and a great professor. There are 3 essays, around 4-5 pages in length, and a group film project at the end of the semester. There is some homework, but it's not bad. If you need help with your paper before turning it in, he is always available.
Dr. Elayan made the class very interesting, but we seemed to always get off topic. We'd always end up talking about sports (mostly football and basketball). I am not a sports person, so that got frustrating. I did pretty well in his class somehow though. I have never been a good writer and I made all A's on his papers.
Dr. Elayan is a very interesting individual, not to say that in a bad way. I have to mimic some of what the others have stated. The atmosphere is definitely laid back, look forward to some debates & he did get off topic at times. 3 papers, 1 group project & a few homework assignments. He is great at what he does & knows his stuff. Hence his Ph.D!!
Dr. Elayan gives out difficult assignments and hardly ever provides feedback on how to improve. He will help you if you ask. There are 3 papers and a movie group project. He encourages you to think deeply
This professor is among Kennesaw's finest. You'd really have missed out if didn't take at least ONE of his classes. Passionate about what he does. Has a true gift and is very relatable.
Professor Elayan is a nice person but you must attend class to do well on his tests. What he says are on his tests are not on his tests. He usually rambles and rants about random things and those things end up on the test, which really aggravated me. He doesn't have an attendance policy but I would encourage you to go to class.
Professor Elayan knows his literature. However he does often get side-tracked with subjects making it hard to take notes. No tests except a midterm and final but if you don't do your readings you will not pass. Take notes and email him if you're unsure about anything.
Khalil is phenomenal at what he does. He has what several professors lack, and that is passion and know how. He will push you and you will have to read quite a bit, but nothing is ever impossible. We had quizzes, a midterm, a paper, and a cumulative final. If you have not had him as a professor, TAKE HIM. You will not regret it.
Dr. Elayan is a great instructor who knows his stuff. However, I'd be lying if I said I thoroughly enjoyed the class 100%. It wasn't bad. There were just too many detours throughout the semester. In regards to the lit that was discussed, I enjoyed a good amount of it. We had some quizzes, a midterm, a paper and a final exam.
I loved Professor Elayans class. His only assignments are papers, both short and long. And then one group project. Not very good at answering emails, but his humor and whit make up for it. 10/10 guy
All we did is read and analysis Brit Lit poems EVERY SINGLE CLASS. Most boring class I've ever taken. 2 test. Not too bad. Originally he assigned us 4 literary journals then added 2 more a week before they were due. Journals are annoying. 1 paper that we haven't done yet. I skipped a lot which I probably shouldn't have. No need to read/buy the book
Dude is funny and even tho i had his class early and was drowsy, his jokes and humor woke up the class and captured their attention. That being said he is a FUN professor... that doesn't mean he is easy. Both tests i studies hours on end as well as do practice tests and study the study guide (of course with reading), got D's. It's NOT easy.
Great professor. He knows what he's talking about and definitely is not boring. There are 4 tests in his class which are over what he covers in class. He makes the class interesting and if you show up and pay attention the tests are nothing crazy.
He has a very witty sense of humor. He is insanely passionate about literature. He likes to joke around and act out things. Really the class was enjoyable. Though attendance wasn't mandatory it is the most helpful thing you can do. His tests are about what he goes over in class and his lectures are tons of fun to listen to anyway. Do your readings!
Really funny and passionate professor, makes the class interesting. Theres 3 must. choice tests & a final "paper" thats really a letter. The tests mainly come from what he talks about in class so you shouldn't skip but you also need to read to do well. I put in minimal effort and skipped several times and didn't read and barely came out with a B.
The class with Professor Elayan was insanely fun. There's three essays and a group video project. Overall, he has a sense of humor and the topics for essays and such are interesting. The reading based essays might be boring but going to class for the discussions help give insight. The textbooks aren't required but still helpful.
Awesome professor. His lectures were actually interesting and his tests came straight from the lectures. Very helpful and funny, would definitely recommend taking him.
By far, the best professor I have ever had. If you're a decent writer, you'll pass the class with an A or a high B. He gives 3 papers and a group project. You can rewrite one of the first 2 papers. His lectures are amazing! Makes them fun by joking about things during them and is super easy to talk to. Can't wait to take him again!
Khalil is unlike any other professor you will ever take at KSU. He is hilarious BUT very unclear on what he is grading on. Rubrics are non-existent. We never wrote any papers but there are weekly quizzes, midterm & final exam. He says whatever he wants & is easily distracted but very friendly. We once spent an entire class watching Kanye videos.
Professor Khalil is the most laid back professor you'll ever have. He's genuinely a cool guy to get to know also, and he engages everyone in his lectures by getting a good laugh out of everyone. Also takes the time to look over your paper if you do it before the due date, so you can make corrections if needed. He'll help you succeed as a writer.
Professor Elayan's class was rather difficult because his tests are based on perceptions of the readings and books. He gave lots of hints in lecture, but attendance wasn't mandatory so if you skip a lot you will not get a good grade. Overall, his class was very enjoyable.
He's funny at times and laid back but you really need to write down everything he says to pass the class . His test are based off his lectures and those are the only grades you get. No class work no homework , one paper and 3 tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go you'll fail his test , i wouldn't recommend taking him for an easy A
Dr. Elayan was hilarious. Although attendance was not mandatory, I really enjoyed going to class every day because he made it very enjoyable. He grades papers not hard buy not easy either. There are 3 main papers along with a few books you have to read. I loved this class and wish I could take him again.
He's very passionate about what he teaches and makes the lectures very interesting. Funny guy too. His tests are pretty tough, but I'd say his tests are pretty much lecture based. I actually never did any of the readings we had to do but I still managed to get a B in the class. Take notes and even record his lectures if you can.
It's not even the end of the semester yet, but this man has cancelled class 3 times so far this semester. The first 2 times he cancelled the morning of and the 3rd, he never showed up. He shows up late to class A LOT. So far the first test wasn't too bad. You just have to pay attention. HAVE to. He also really wants you to participate
one of the most intellectual professors I've ever taken at this school. Super smart and very passionate about world literature. He makes the class very interesting and very funny. participate in his lectures and the class is more fun. very easy class! Highly recommend
Funniest professor I've ever had. His lectures are kinda random but always super interesting. I would definitely take him again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! Unless you're an English major or find poetry interesting do not take him. I signed up for his closing thinking it was an easy A and it is far from that. You have to come to every class. You have to pay attention to every little detail of his lectures or you won't do well on the test. Hes funny tho
This professor truely cares about his students and their success. Extra credit quiz is offered, and 3 tests and 1 essay. Difficult tests-attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't show up trust me-you'll fail!
Dr. Elayan is one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. Every day is a new adventure when he walks in the room. There are only 4 Grades--3 Tests & a Paper. However, as long as you show up regularly to class & read the assigned texts before the exams, you should be fine. He is truly one of the best individuals I have had the joy of meeting.
This guy is my favorite teacher of all time. He made english truly interesting. I took him for both 1101 and 1102 and I still had a great experience the second time around. This class consisted of 3 papers and a video project that is a lot of fun if you put effort in, and he loves to talk and has tons of great life advice. No doubt would take again
I do not recommend taking Dr. Elayan unless you are a literature or English major. I had a 4.0 GPA (as a junior) before this class and barely made a B. The amount of reading is ridiculous and the tests are insanely hard. He's a funny professor and passionate, but it's just not worth it for a general education requirement.
OMG where to start... Professor khalil is literally the best teacher ever. He is very amusing but super smart. All you have to do is participate in class TALK TALK TALK once he sees the class is engaged he won't force a bunch of work on you. I took him for 1101 and 1102 and NEVER took a test. Only 3 papers and a video project. ENGAGE!
Wonderful professor, definitely plan on taking his classes again in the future, absolutely hilarious. Laid back conversational class. Recommend every time i get the chance.
You have only four grades. Takes forever to give grades back. Tells you the readings to be done on a short notice through email. Have to go to class to pass.
I took his African American Lit class, this is an amazing course, and I would definitely recommend it. However, there are only 4 grades in this class. There are two test, and they are quite unusual for a lit class. If you do not show up to class and take notes on everything he says, there is a slim chance you will pass.
Extremely funny professor, he makes lectures very entertaining. 3 tests and one essay. Tests are based heavily on lectures, so you should show up every class. Definitely take him if you can!
Brings a personal and passionate perspective to the subject. Includes stories and has a teaching style that draws you in. Take this man if you have the chance.
Professor Elayan is super funny and intelligent. I learned so much from this class. You have 3 papers which you get to choose the topic as long as it relates to what is being covered in class, and one group film project (easier than it sounds). Attendance is suggested but not mandatory. If you email him that you're sick, he is understanding.
Enjoyed this class! Easy A. Graded by 3 tests and 1 short paper. Tests are based on the readings, poems, etc. that he assigns, which are all on d2l (Don't have to buy any books). The tests are easy if you come to class and take notes during discussion.
Dr. Elayan was a dope professor. He made every lecture interesting and was very real and incredibly flexible. He was very understanding if you couldn't make it to class. He took a genuine approach to his course and wanted students to give honest responses to the readings. He also listened and class discussions were always amazing. Would take again.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!! Well worth it. He's hysterical and you only have 3 tests and a paper. He literally spoon feeds you the information, so just write down whatever he says during lectures and you'll be fine. You could just read the stuff and not even attend class and be set. Awesome lecturer as well!
This professor is a great lecturer. He's funny & he makes the material easy to understand. However, he does tend to call out students for participation. Usually its uncomfortable and probably embarrassing. But honestly its worth it because he's still a great professor and you can get an A easily. Show up, read, discuss, and the test will be easy.
He is funny. We wrote two papers, had one annotated bib/abstract assignment, and one group film project. The class was never boring, but the paper topics were somewhat difficult at times. It was a good class, and really made you think deep.
Easily the best teacher and best human being I've ever met. Incredible teacher. He will keep you entertained and laughing the entire time and never holds class for the entire time. You'll usually be let out after about 30 minutes or so. Gives a LOT of papers, all 1200 words either every week or every other week but grades very lightly.
If you can, please take him for english 1101. He is a great teacher. He gives 3 papers and 2 project but they weren't hard at all and he grades lightly. He keeps the class interesting and wants you to learn life lessons. He wants you to think outside the box. He is a teacher who actually cares about their students.
A great guy, taking him again next semester. Only three papers worth 20% each. did two group projects that if he could tell y'all tried then you get a good grade. No tests or final. If you're good at writing papers this class is an easy A.
Dr. Elayans lecture are always interesting as he uses music and scenes from movies on some of his lectures. He only has 3 papers and 2 group project but theyre not that hard to do and some of them are really fun. Nothing else to say other than Take his class, you wont regret it at all.
I actually took this class about 5 years ago when I was a KSU student but remembered the experience recently & wanted to share. I learned to question my own viewpoints about the world & to not be afraid of the truth, even if it means neglecting something I was taught was the "right" way. I learned more about myself and who I want to be.
He is honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. All of his lectures were interesting and captivating. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't show up to class you won't pass any of the tests. You can't just read the books and automatically know everything.
He was hands down the best professor I've ever had. We read two books and plenty of short stories. As long as you attend class and have read the material, you will get an A. His tests were "who was the author of X" and so you just need to know the basics and pay attention. Great class, he was SO inspiring. Everyone should take him at least once!
He is a genuine guy and wants everyone to pass his class, but he can be a bit weird at times. He gets off topic, expects you to remember the smallest things about his lectures, and does not really have a syllabus. His tests are based off of the readings and what he says in class, PAY ATTENTION!
If you want an obvious atheist teacher and you want to read books about physics by a science professor then take his class. If you don't want to waste your time going to class to learn nothing and you want to read and write about real literature and topics then don't take him.
This semester, I think he canceled class upwards of 5 times but expected us to keep up with the class as if he never canceled any classes. We had to read a book on physics which had no relevance to the class, His guidelines for papers and projects are unspecific, resulting in much of the class being confused. Hard grader, I would not take again!!!!
He was a great professor but he cancelled more classes this semester than we ever went to class. He was definitely there to help when you needed help. One group project at the end of the semester which I was not a fan of. Also 3 papers plus one revision on either Paper 1 or Paper 2. Overall, a good teacher so take him!
His class consists of 4 grades, 3 tests and 1 paper, which is great for an English class. Also, there aren't any textbooks that you have to purchase for this class. All of his readings can be found online. If you read and comprehend all the readings, you will get an A in this class .
Not that good. Boring classes and awful lectures. Convaluted papers due almost weekly. Terrible group projects.
There are 3 papers, each having a minimum of 1200 words, and 1 easy group project. He is an AMAZING professor. Expect to get a low grade on the first paper. He has enough buffer in the final grade so it wont pull it down too much. He offers to help you with your paper before its due. His lectures are very interesting!
I love this guy! He's very casual and very fun. It is hard not to respect him. You work hard on papers but he gives back amazing feedback and notes. We read good works. He says the best way to learn compisition is to look at good works of compisision. His lectures are inspirational and thought provoking. I want him for all of my english classes!
He will probably never show up on time if you take his class. Hes a nice man, but not in any way shape or form a professor to recommend. He doesnt explain assignments well and then proceeds to grade them very hard. Gives 3 papers, in class assignments, and 1 group project. If you can avoid getting this professor, I would advise you to do so.
Honestly, I love his classes! I'm taking his 1102 class and it's similar to his 1101. You can get him to talk about anything and he'll get really passionate. The only grades in his class are 3 papers , a few homework assignments, and a film project. I'm not a great writer but I was able to get A's on my papers. Overall, it's an easy class!
Worst prof ever. This is 1102, not an upper level class. Prof doesn't realize that, should be teaching a philosophy class. also cancels class all the time for his events, doesn't care, no clear grading criteria, wont respond to emails, no feedback on papers or help writing them. know it all. Don't take unless u want to be frustrated all semester!!
Prof. Elayan tends to go off on tangents during his lectures that aren't helpful for students. He cancels class frequently and is late a majority of the time. He will probably call you out during class, and it's usually embarrassing and, again, not helpful. He can be interesting and funny, but overall, I definitely would not take him again.
Terrible teacher. I have never struggled with English until this teacher. Harsh grader with terrible feedback. Prompts are extremely vague and wouldnt explain them to me when I asked. Never answers any of my emails. Overall feels like he didnt care or hates his students. Always late to class and canceled a lot. DO NOT take this class!!
At first I liked him, but he quickly became absent, he was ALWAYS late to class, never answered emails, and essay prompts were always vague and confusing. Hes a harsh grader and kind of intimidating. I feel bad cause hes a nice guy outside of class, but just not the teacher for me. Had a lot of sleepless nights with these essays.
If you can write or enjoy writing you will be fine. I took both his ENGL 1101 and 1102 classes as a junior in dual enrollment and I finished both classes with a solid A. He's a funny and philosophical guy who sometimes goes off on tangents, but overall this is such as easy class! Only has 3 papers (one u can redo) and a group project. Some HW as to
He knows a lot about writing. Don't take him unless if you're an english/creative writing major. I went to him to look over my papers before I submitted them and edited what he mentioned. Yet, he didn't mention things that counted against me. I think that if you go to a prof for help they would actually help you. Cancelled classes way too often.
He did not give too many assignments and the ones he gave were graded heavily, even though we had to switch to online classes. Assigned a final paper but only graded the format, not the content and I only got feedback because I asked for it! Pitiful!
Dr. Elayan's ENGL 1101 class was straightforward and the assignments were never too much work. It's clear that he cares about what he teaches, and his class is as informative as it is entertaining. We had 3 papers (of the first two, we could attempt to redo the one which we had the lowest grade on). We also had a final group video project.
This class is beyond easy. If you read everything at least once (would probably only take you an hour or two for each unit) and attend most classes, you should get an A on the test. There were 3 tests and 1 paper that was only 600 words. His lectures are captivating if you care about black history and his tangents are honestly entertaining.
The reviews I read before taking this class were hyping this man up but unfortunately I received a professor who lacked communication and rarely posted on the forum. Few assignments were given with awful instructions and due dates were never assigned with the work. A very messy class to say the least. I recommend choosing a different professor.
The class is not too hard, 3 exams and some other discussions, and he is a nice person. The problem is that, at least for those who take it online, he really does not communicate well. Emails every once in a while but sometimes an assignment is posted with no due date. Sometimes posts assignments like two days before it's due. Very annoying.
Super easy class. Really understanding. Never listened to any of his audio lectures and still made an A. Wrote one paper that was only 2 pages. Relatively easy tests, just read through poems beforehand. Definitely read his written notes about the texts.
Was hoping to gain more knowledge from this class but this professor genuinely didn't seem to care about his students at all. Instructions were not clear and no due dates were given with assignments. Do not recommend him.
This class was WILD. "If you don't like what I have to say, you're welcome to leave" and people did. One class was just one long tangent and none of us had a clue what he was talking about. I was sleeping for most of it but some people just left. He kicked us all out of class for not responding to questions. I slept through most classes and got a B
His class was super easy. we only had three papers and we were given rubrics that were easy to follow. we also had discussions and other worm that were basically easy A's if you turned them in on time. however, this was my only F because i had soooo much stuff going on in my personal life that i just didnt have time to do the assignments.
Dr. Elayan is an AMAZING professor. He gives you the liberty to explore a wide variety of topics that are actually interesting. There are only 3 papers and a few random homework assignments but they are easy as long as you follow the guidelines. There isn't a lot of communication making certain things hard but overall great class would recommend .
He was not a great choice for a professor. His course was really weird and the readings we had were even weirder. He tries to engage with you but you really can't with his material. He canceled class a lot and gave vague instructions. Tests are word for word from lecture most of the time.
Elayan was the coolest professor Ive had at KSU. Great guy, passionate about his work. Loved his class. Show up, read the readings, do good on the paper and you'll get an A. Easiest A I've gotten by far. 5 quizzes, 2 tests, one paper. Easy, easy, easy. You'll get a kick out of Dr. E. He is interesting and a real cool dude. TAKE HIM!!
i took this class online and when i tell you i was disappointed. I was disappointed, if ur looking for a professor who responds to ur emails, gives good feedbacks, solid deadlines, etc. he isn't it. he responds late, criticizes ur work like crazy but doesn't give advise to fix it, he gives u deadlines and forgets to open the portal. he sucks!!
Unprofessional, he responds to emails after a few days, never specifies while critiquing, puts crucial notes and requirements in audio file format, and made us watch a movie about existentialism with a teacher and student romantic arc happening. I didnt learn anything in this class and its not worth the credit for jumping so many barriers
He is very unorganized most of the time you don't know when you homework is due until he emails you the night before. I would run far away from this class and take someone else. It is not worth the headache.
This man is pretty laid back and this class was very straightforward. Read the assigned readings he posts and then you go to class and he reviews the readings (so realistically if you don't read before class you'll still be okay). There were two tests and one writing assignment, and he doesn't require you to use a lockdown browser
I have mixed feelings about him but overall he was good. Hes not the most organized but hes super understanding. Class isnt mandatory BUT if you go it makes the class 10x easier because he basically explains to you exactly what to write on the essays. He also gives you so many prompts for the essays so you can go in so many different directions.
Dr. Elayan is what every English professor should strive to be, but will inevitably fall short. His feedback on writing is real, personal, and the absolute model for recruiting students to the English department. Unless his Summer class is some weird anomaly, I would highly recommend taking one of his classes. Also, write about Hunter S. Thompson.
Prof. Elayan is super chill and easygoing HOWEVER his class is extremely boring. Im sitting in his class right now thinking we must be done soon. I look at the time and we are 25 minutes in. This class is definitely an easy grade but its so uninteresting that you might prefer something more challenging idk.
Professor Elayan was all around a cool guy, however, he showed up to class late by at least 10 minutes almost every class. He rambled on a lot about the readings and it was hard to understand what was truly happening in them. He waits until the last minute to start books and then hurrys you through them. I would not recommend this class.
This professor is not clear on what he expects from you for writing assignments. I hope I never have to take a class from him again. It can really make the difference in your grade when the professor doesnt give clear templates on formats that he is looking for.
Im not the best writer but was able to get As on all essays. He is very clear and open with essay topics. Gives multiple topics so you can explore your creativity. The only bad thing was he cancelled class like once every week. Says his immune system has been destroyed due to covid.
he's a super cool guy, very interesting listening to him evaluate a lesson. Assignments are limited so the workload is not overwhelming at all. essay topics were straightforward and easy to understand. Class gets canceled a good bit but it isn't that big of a deal.
Hands down the best english professor I've ever taken. He's very passionate about the subjects he teaches, as well as super entertaining. However, there are quite a few papers that you need to write, so I wouldn't take his class if you aren't ready to work, or don't want an intense class. Very fun class though, would take again in a heartbeat.
He is a cool and laid-back person, but he will be 15 mins late 95% of the time. His assignments are easy, but essays are graded toughly. He gives a lot of freedom on essays and doesn't like the extra fluff in a paper. He wants everything very specific. All grades are weighed the same so if you do bad on the essays it won't hurt you too much.
he is a decent professor. he has dry humor which makes his boring lectures sort of entertaining. you write three papers which each count for 25% of your grade. he has strict guidelines for the papers but if you follow them you will get a good grade. his lectures are kind of boring but you go to class because he assigns stuff in person but not onlin
Ensure to go to class because his lectures are the quizzes and tests. He also has a certain format for tests and quizzes and there is no midterm or final.
This professor is okay, he could be better. His grading system is terrible, and his lectures are not okay. he rambles all the time, and you never know where it is going. Also, his grading system is terrible, the quizzes are usually 5 questions each, so if you miss two you are screwed, so I was stay away from this class.
This professor was 15-20 minutes late to class every morning to the point that people just stop showing up to class. He doesn't take attendance. He literally was all over the place with his lectures which made some of his quizzes and tests hard. He rambled about things that didn't have anything to do with what he was supposed to be teaching us.
At the beginning of the semester we had like one quiz every week however they were like 5 easy questions. During class he just talks. We have three papers the entire semester, nothing too difficult. he is really cool and nice. class is pretty straight forward tbh.
I took his class online for Dual enrollment and it was pretty easy. His essay requirements are 1100 words which isn't too bad. The most "difficult" part of the class is the last essay assignments but I promise you'll get through it.
He's decent. My only issue with this professor is the grading for tests. I received a B on my second test because I had 2 punctuation errors and I didnt Indent my essay. On the first exam (that was structured the exact same way) he didnt say he had any issues with the structure. Dont expect to get easy A's on tests unless its literally perfect.
Not a bad instructor. He is a little slow putting grades in, but for the most part he will help you to pass the class and he is usually very understanding and good at emailing you back. I would have given him a 5 star, but his class was very unorganized at the start. He eventually got it together and it was fairly easy to navigate. I recommend him.
Took him during my first semester at college in Fall 2022. Great class, great professor, I only wish I had made more time to really study the material he presented. Final writing assignment was challenging, otherwise if you come to class & do the readings you'll do great.
I took this professor for both World Lit and Eng 1102 and would highly recommend. He gives engaging writing and reading assignments that are actually interesting and thought-provoking. He cares that students are engaged in the material. World Lit was very fast-paced so if you are not a fan of reading longer material, don't take him.
The professor has a dry sense of humor that makes the lectures somewhat entertaining. The assignments, while straightforward, are graded strictly. Using resources like unstuckstudy ai and ChatGPT helped me nail the essays. Overall, a manageable class if you stay on top of it.
This English professor was such a tough grader. I am a freshman but I feel like I was always confused on what he wanted on the assignments. He takes off a lot of points for small errors as well. Perhaps his in person class is better. If he provided more examples on D2L, then I would understand what he would want.
Literally nothing negative to say about this professor. Took him online freshman year for English 1101 and taking him again as a sophomore for ENGL 2110. TAKE HIM.
Class is just reviewing the text you have to read so there is no need to attend class if you do the readings. Got mad when test scores were low and created a hostile learning situation and a lot of people stopped showing up. Tests are online but there are some quizzes in person. Lectures are boring he yaps a lot. Answer his questions, he gets mad.
His classes all consisted of him yapping for an hour and 30 minutes. I thought he was very funny, and passionate about the books that we had to read. There were a few tests and quizzes, but most of them were ONLINE, and with NO lock down browser too. There was one essay, but it was not that difficult, just don't use AI.
His online class wasn't too hard just dont procrastinate! He doesn't like AI and will mark off points for small things so just make sure you follow his directions carefully!!!
Took his Islamic Scriptural Studies class. If you're not prejudiced and annoying, then it'll be an easy and interesting class.
