Does not specify due dates, is rude and not helpful at all, I would not suggest this course if you are looking to take just an intro to coms. He has way too high of expectations for a 101 course and is very critical of your public speaking and grades very tough. Not all people are great public speakers like him
communication 241: It was a great class and I enjoyed it. Many of my fellow students did poorly because they didn't ask questions or had too many absences. If you really want to learn about culture and work your butt off in a variety of projects which make you THINK, you will love this class. Somewhat writing intensive.
I really enjoyed this class and can only hope that SFCC secures this instructor for the future. If you work your butt off and do your best his class is a lifechanging experience. I took it last year and think about my experiences daily. He's fair and knows his stuff:)I Wish I went to a school he teaches at.
He gives out an insane amount of homework. I don't think he realizes that students have work from classes besides his. He's a good teacher, but he just needs to dial back the workload a little bit.
I liked Khalil's class a lot. He really makes you work for your grade, but the in-class meetings are well worth it. I've never left one of his classes without laughing at least once. He'll tell great stories during lectures while always finding his way back on topic.
I do not recommend this teacher. He often doesn't open modules on time, messes up grades, and unless you really like a smart-ass, be prepared to hate every minute. Never had an urge to drop a class until this one.
If you email him with questions he wont respond. Spends most of the class period talking then realizes hes out of time. Gives you homework online and expects you to figure everything out on your own. Attendance is everything. Lectures are common sense, but essays and homework make you think and go into depth more from the text book.
Very clear, you know what he expects of you when the quarter starts, very easy A, lots of work but as long as you do it and show up for class it can be a lot of fun. He has an awesome personality and this class will truly be missed.
He is extremely specific about what he wants, but he won't tell you exactly what that is. Skips around with grading. We do the reading before lecture, so it's almost pointless to go - except that you fail if you don't. The group project is unbelievably stressful. Best to talk to him in person - it takes forever for him to return an e-mail.
He is an amazing teacher, he obviously knows what he's talking about. People seems to be upset by his ambiguity, but he does say what he wants and leaves the rest up to you. If I could continue taking his class forever I would. We go over the chapter in class and it helps me to get a solid understanding of the material. 10/10.
We had homework due before the first class. 2-3 page paper per chapter, multiple chapters per week. He doesn't answer emails on time, and when he does they don't help. Short office hours. You will have to read the entire text book; he doesn't teach anything. The final project is a nightmare that you will not be prepared for by the rest of the class
He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He teaches the class like a high school class doing 2-3 page reading responses plus 4 other assignments the same week. Also he doesn't keep up on grading because he assigns so much!! So you don't know what to adjust. I wish I could rate him 0! I am probably transferring colleges because him!
I took his honors course, and out of 12 weeks, he cancelled class at least 3 times. During class, he would go off on tangents that weren't really relatable to class. You have to complete Reading Response Papers after each chapter you have to read. Those are time consuming, but can be completed if you put your mind to it.
Lots of reading and multiple assignments and/or discussions or posts per week. Quizzes and tests don't have simple questions. Takes at least one full day to respond to emails.
His class it a lot of work but worth it. You learn so much and get a much better feel for communications. His stories are relatable and if you have good time-management it's not hard. He lists all the assignments in the syllabus and generally that won't change. If he makes a mistake he owns up to it and gives credit. He seems ambiguous but clear.
Does not respond to emails. Will not answer questions. Misplaces work turned in and blames student/accuses student of lying. Doesn't trust students to read text, so assigns extra work simply to verify the text is read (instead of simply testing on the knowledge like a normal college level course).
The guy does not know how to communicate or structure a course. The last thing he should be doing is instructing people on communication.
We are only 5 days into the quarter and Khalil has made multiple mistakes and then blames or makes excuses. He does not return emails/or responds after the due date. It is obvious that he is Not an educator. His syllabus/HW are the most convoluted, and unclear bunch of busy work I have ever countered. Not fit to be a Communications instructor!
I hope you are ready for busy work. There is a lot of work to be done each week. Does not really teach the course, just makes us read. If you miss a due date, too bad. Very hard grader and does not grade but like twice in the quarter. Good luck finding out your grade. Watch his assignment DUE dates as they sometimes change on you with no notice.
I'm only a few days in and he honestly isn't a good educator. And I mean even a good educator. His replies are slow, too opinionated, grades heavily and inaccurately - literally seems like a man who hates men. Has a power complex over grades... shouldn't be teaching communications, if at all. Tries to innovate in class, making things worse for us.
Took online, he requires weekly live sessions, if you don't attend you get 0's. Not helpful, I was putting in hours of work and getting 55%, wouldn't tell me why. Insane amounts of work - less than 48 hours to do it. I URGE you NOT to take this professor. I got a 4.0 last QTRand 2.0 this QTR -summer. Poor communicator Difficult completing on time
Took this as an online class. There was a ton of homework (reading and writing) and this class took an extensive amount of time each week. That being said, if you put a lot of effort into the class you will get a lot out of it. It was very thought provoking and changed the way I look at the world.
Khalil is very intimidating, sarcastic and will point you out in class and make fun of you - regularly. If you have to miss a day of class he will not let you forget it. A lot of homework but that wouldnt be an issue if he was easy to communicate with - he is not. Very crass, indirect, loves to tell the class how he bets you will fail the quarter.
Khalil grades very subjectively and inconsistently. There's a lot of busy work in his class that doesn't enhance students' learning of the material. He tells students to never skip class, but he will often not show up to class. He has higher standards for his students than he does for himself. Overall, I found him to be very unprofessional.
Very rude and his lectures are pointless.
He can make the room feel uncomfortable at times, he is very subjective with the way he grades and he doesn't seem very reasonable to every student in the class.
Be prepared to spend lots of time on homework.
khalil is really trying his best and hes nice but i personally did NOT like the way he taught. some people like his way of teaching but i didnt. he gave too many assignments that didnt help us, constantly went way off topic and his lectures were mediocre in my opinion. seriously too many assignments and homework. not worth it.
dont take his class, please please dont
Others may find Khalil's class to be hard, but I thoroughly enjoyed the assignments. His grading rubric pushes students tobgo above and beyond to receive A's. My biggest problem with this professor is that winter quarter has ended and he has yet to grade assignments from the last three months.
Prepare to spend a lot of time each day and week in this class. RRP assignments take a lot of time. However if you create a template that matches the grading rubric it really helps. Participation is a must, to get a good grade you will need to be active every day. Take advantage of the opportunities to earn extra credit and youll do great here.
Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT take a class taught by this instructor. I worked my booty off all Quarter and still got a 2.8. His expectations require you to do way above and beyond the average college course, and if you just do the requirements, you will not get a full score. He also never responds to emails and takes the whole quarter to grade anything
He is awful! Half way through the semester I had to file a formal complaint with the school for his lack of communication and the fact he waited until the end of the semester to grade most of our papers. Please don't hire him onto your faculty and do not enroll in his class. You've been warned!
for him to tech communication, he's not very good at it. Doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner. When he does respond, never answers question and directs you to the syllabus when he could have just answered the question.
Horrible professor, I would not recommend him to anyone. horrible at communication, and expect you to go above and beyond for every assignment. Expect you to turn everything in on time but doesn't grade anything until the end of the quarter. Communication is not his strong suit, I'm not sure why he is Communications professor.
The absolute WORST Professor I have ever had! Hes a communications teacher that wont communicate. Hes arrogant and full of himself. Dont bother emailing him you will wait DAYS for a response. I had to file a complaint with the school and even then he still didn't respond. Run far far away from his class!
Not impressed with him at all. Every single assignment has instructions that are very hard to understanding... coming from a communication teacher which is pretty funny! so much busy work. NEVER emails back on time even though in his syllabus it says he will respond within two days. Doesn't grade assignments until end of quarter
This class was not incredibly difficult for me. However, this instructor was quite inconsiderate! If we had an emergency he told us to ignore it because it could always wait. He was kind of a jerk and called on students and laughed at them for being uncomfortable. I do not like his character AT ALL.
At that time, I could only choose his course. Even though I saw a lot of comments on him, I had no way. I think the comment is right. He doesn't reply to email, even if you have something important to look for. And he won't give you grades until very late. Because it was an online course, I didn't get any response when I email to him.
Ok, I was initially concerned about this guy. My experience this summer: he graded quickly, his expectations were clear, he communicated with us regularly (not on weekends though). He made a few mistakes and emailed us about them. I wasn't a fan of live sessions, but when I missed them, I could summarize them. I'd take him again.
I wasn't excited to take the class. I've signed up and dropped it a few times. I found it to be fun, Kalil was interesting, there were a few moments when I was lost, he responded quick and was helpful. Helped a lot with my outline. I still didn't like giving the speech, but at least the meetings were fun.
I took two classes with Khalil and he was entertaining as well as knowledgeable in communications. If you are struggling all you have to do is talk to him and he will work with you. Communications classes are very reading-heavy. I would definitely take another class with him if I get the opportunity. He is a teacher that cares about his students.
I had a love and hate relationship with this class. Khalil is willing to work with any student who needs too. He grades hard but fair, always look at the criteria for the assignment, it very detailed about how assignment should be , don't just rely on what the module says. Just prepare for the amount of time you'll spending reading and doing RRP.
I expected the class to be harder. Pretty straight forward. We had lots of homework, but it wasn't hard. When I got sick and missed class, Kahlil reached out and helped me catch up. He was fun and funny and helped me learn how to use references.
This guy doesn't really know how to teach, so he instead makes you read every letter of the textbook and take an excruciating amount of notes to show that "you know the content." Never, EVER take this guy unless you're a..."driven" student, who wants to spend 20-30 hours a week on this class alone.
So this was probably one of the hardest classes I've taken. What I liked: he was pretty clear and worked with me when I had a family issue and had a hard time with some of the material. I didn't like: the book was a bit heady. I understand but don't care for the grading scale. Overall good class. Consistent, clear, but requires attention and work.
This was my 3rd class with this guy. Taking 227 in the summer. Cass starts hard, but the tough work is done by week 5. I really appreciated that!!! Kaleel was helpful when I had problems, but if you keep up with the assignments, this class is REALLY EASY. I didn't like were the textbook quizzes, but lectures & activities were fun and helpful.
By far the worst professor I have had. Completely overwhelms you with homework, to where you dont even have time to work on your other classes, then acts like you are the problem when you start to struggle. He legitimately deducts points for turning in assignments a few hours BEFORE due time. Do not take his class. The man lives in a power fantasy
This was a summer class. We went through the entire book - not too hard, only 9 chapters. I expected harder/worse based on other reviews. Mr. Zawrt has pretty firm due dates but the work wasn't really hard except the group project, but I had a flaky group. I liked the class and Mr. Zawrt was nice and quick to respond to questions.
Fun class, pretty easy, gotta read the book but its not hard. Lots of discussions but they were usually fun. I DID NOT like the group project. also had a karen in the class who was mad about something but I thought the class was pretty easy. Everything was clear, and except the group project, I liked the class and loved the videos he shared.
Every week you had to do a chapter test, a discussion video, discussion questions, respond to discussion posts, and an assignment IN THAT ORDER. We finished chapters on Sundays and the tests for the CURRENT week were due TUESDAYS??? One day prep. You couldn't see the discussion prompt until after you did the test even though it was due same day etc
Not clear, due dates all over the place and WRONG in areas. Thinks spreading out your responses to peer's is WAY too important. You lose 10% (!!!!!!) of your discussion grade (out of 70) if you do all five responses in the same day. People are busy. They have lives, jobs and other classes. IF IT GETS DONE BEFORE ITS DUE IT SHOULDN'T MATTER WHEN
Khalil is the worst professor that I have ever had. I am an A+ student, but he is the least understanding person that I have ever met. He gives zeros on assignments if they are one minute late, and he never responds to emails. He is honestly rude and yelled at me on zoom about an assignment. Super unprofessional and gives no respect to students
You get 75% for doing all of what he asks for. He expects you to do EXTRA for EVERY assignment (1 test, 4 assignments, 5 peer responses per week) or you do not get full points which makes zero sense. I have talked to many people who have taken his class before and this is what they all said, and my personal experience matches. DO NOT TAKE
I dontt think this Prof is a bad guy. I just have never entered a class and immediately felt the need to drop. Im not a quitter, this will be the first class I drop. Bombarded with work and ridiculous expectations within the first day. Not for students who work or have other classes. Writing this to warn others! Requires Lockdown browser.
Do not take his class. Tons of work, very strict, avoid at all costs.
This class was a lot more difficult than it needed to be. There was a lot of overcomplicated busy work. He was often disorganized. The class would meet weekly over zoom. Quizzes were weekly and taken on lockdown browser and not all answers were correct. However, he did offer opportunities for extra credit.
Every time I messaged him with questions, I never heard back. Incredibly tough grader, and unnecessarily difficult class. Only took it to finish my degree, do not recommend him if you want to ever communicate with him about the work. Or if you don't want to feel overwhelmed.
Assignments in this class is nothing short of ridiculous, they are difficult and take hours to complete. He is awful at keeping up with the gradebook. It is nearly impossible to get full credit on assignments, they are graded not by if you did what was required but if you did more than what was required. Never responds, worst prof i've had here.
Khalil's class was probably one of the most unorganized classes I have ever taken. I would not recommend taking this course unless you don't mind a lack of instruction and lots of work. Khalil is a nice person, I think he does want his students to learn but, the way his class is set up is quite confusing and he doesn't give much instruction.
Khalil is a great instructor. He is clear in his instructions and assignments. He makes an effort to get you to understand the material as well as clear up any confusion. He is quick to respond and gives you thorough feedback.
Khalil is a great guy, I enjoyed taking his class. He is a great communicator and his class is not that difficult if you do the work and do it correctly.
I had a lot of fun in this class. When I did the work, read the directions, and followed the feedback from Khalil, everything came so easily. Khalil is not a tough instructor. He is a kind guy who cares about you.
Khalil is a hilarious instructor. I enjoyed this class and would take any of his instructed classes. Clear deadlines he is not a tough grader, just fair. He helps you understand parts that are confusing so you do not get left behind. The work really is not that hard, just need to be disciplined.
He is the toughest grader I have came to contact with. His guidelines are "dramatically exceed expectations" in order to get 100% on the assignments. Doing what is expected, will get you a poor-average grade. He ruined my GPA. Some of us do not have the time to dedicate to going above an beyond. Ridiculous teacher.
Gives insane amounts of work weekly where you have to post videos and respond daily.
This was definitely the most unorganized class I've ever taken. He'd cancel randomly, didn't put instructions on Canvas and was completely inaccessible outside of class (he expected us to just figure it out). I never really knew what was happening and nothing was clear. Maybe an online class of his would be more structured, but in-person was not.
For an intercultural communication teacher, he's ironically bad at communicating anything, from assignments to accessing him outside of school. Gives large amounts of homework and expects people to just figure it out.
The most difficult thing about this class was working in a group for all of 3 hours. Considering that I didn't have to physically go to this class, it wasn't even that much of a time investment. The work itself is easy. People stress too much about their own speeches to worry about what you might do wrong. Don't be nervous about public speaking.
I really enjoyed his class, got my first 4.0 in his class. Had him in Fall of 2022, in my opinion he was very strict, however he is willing to work with folks if you "COMMUNICATE" with him. Movies were great, papers were long. Hope he reads this one day. Great Professor in my opinion.
He uses lockdown browser for literally everything (even the syllabus quiz?).
Please listen to my advice and don't take a class with this professor. You'll thank me later. His syllabus quiz is taken in a lockdown browser. But thats not all. All of his quizzes are taken in a lockdown browser and on top of that you are being recorded while taking them. Gives a crap ton of reading each week, over 50 pages.
Ugh, worst professor ever. Just trying to help you guys out. It's impossible to reach out to him. Didn't answer either of the 3 messages I sent him throughout the quarter. Very dry feedback that doesn't even give you an idea of what you need to change and why you got the grade you got. Please don't take any classes with him.
Khalil gives a group project and a singular project. He is very clear of what he wants, and he is a very approachable person overall. Every Wednesday he holds a meeting for people to ask questions and also gives many chances for people to turn in their late work.
The teacher was a really nice guy, but really bad teacher in my opinion. He relies heavily on the weekly readings for his lectures that you have to do a video presentation about and write a ton about. He also grades super hard so you have to do double to work to hopefully get an A or if you do what he says is the requirement you get at best a C.
The amount of work is overwhelming and his rubric is absurd. You have to go above and beyond to get a good grade on anything. Will not respond to any emails about clarification and is extremely disorganized.
He is easy going and very knowledgeable but for a 3 credit class the workload is overwhelming. He also doesn't really respond to emails. And prepare for a 45 minute long yap session every week.
Ridiculous expectations, wants class to have live discussions and uses the whole lecture to talk about himself. Most busy work I have ever had in years of schooling, avoid at all costs.
Insane workload for a 3 credit class, Instructions and due-dates are unclear, Lectures are 45 minutes of him making crude and obnoxious comments (About 5 minutes of valuable information), If you try to contact him he will either give weird and vague answers or not answer at all. Please spare yourself and find a better teacher.
Had a ton of homework, but the class itself (Job Communications) was actually really helpful. His zoom lectures were so long and he talked about himself a lot, but he has a ton of experience in the job force. You will learn something in this class, but you should prepare for the tedious amount of homework and the excruciating lectures.
Very tough grader, you have to go above and beyond to receive a fair grade. Zoom sessions weekly and just are ignorant. He is a great person overall, just a lot of work and expectations for class. You will have to work hard to earn a good grade, but its doable .
I would never retake his class. I am usually a good student, but he gives me so much work that it's hard to keep up. He uses probably 40% of the live sessions to talk about random topics. For example, an extra credit assignment was to watch a 3-hour-long movie and write at least 1000 words for maybe 11 points. DONT TAKE!!
I'm trying to help you. Do not take this class unless you want to be overworked for a communication credit. Take another teacher, please. You will have a wayy easier time. This class is way too extra for just communications. The teacher doesn't even know how to communicate.
How does this guy still have a job teaching? The college should look into this guy.
Very poor experience in his class. His grades are inaccurate, he won't leave comments as to what you missed, and he won't even give you a ONE DAY extension. The school needs to look into this guy because taking his class is just a waste of money. You won't receive the grades you deserve. DO NOT take any classes with this guy.
It's a simple comms class yet the workload is huge. Very harsh grader, getting an A is going "above and beyond"; if you follow the assignment directions you will only get a C because you didn't write twelve more key concepts than what was asked. And yet there's spelling and grammar mistakes everywhere in his syllabus. Who does this guy think he is?
He really is a nice teacher. I had a rough quarter in his class but I talked to him, he is very kind. The work load is a lot if you have lots of other classes but I learned a lot in the class that I use. As long as you are trying and putting in the work, just talk to him. The film reviews are also super fun and I enjoyed that part of my week.
overwhelming amount of busy work. ridiculous grading rubric. He takes forever to grade things, takes 3-5 days to respond to emails. Do not take this class with a full work load, you will not have enough time. Zoom classes were him going on tangents for an hour, but if a student asks a question he says he doesn't have time to go over that
Wasn't very understanding when issues arose. Not very kind
This class was so so so bad! I swear it is completely impossible to receive a good grade even if you did what was asked. I did NOT enjoy any part of this class, I was expecting to really like it. This was not what I got however. I was met with a terrible class.
I originally didn't try very hard in this class, but when he reached out saying I needed to improve I tried to. I tried to communicate with him to see how, but he clearly didn't want to help. I tried to follow the critiques in submission comments but it never helped and actually got my papers graded worse.
I have seen unkind I know what unkind looks like. He treats us like what we are and is adult college students. The only thing I did not like or appreciate was the constant assignment's he needed to slow down it became overwhelming. He is only tough because he expects the best in us as students. Do your job and you should be fine!
I took his class and I hated it! I would dread this class before I dropped it. When I was still in this class he would not communicate assignments. He expected us to know what assignments were due. He also says no technology. And my computer is how I take notes. Also my friend in this class says she does 10 hours of homework weekly.
I took his class for CMST101 and I hated it. I dreaded this class before I dropped it. When I was in this class he would never communicate assignments. He just expected us to know when assignments were due. He also says no technology. And my computer is how I take notes. Also my friend in my film class says she does 10 hours of homework weekly.
I have taken this class, he is inconsistent with grading, and on top of all of that I plugged his feedback into a AI detector and gave me a 75% probability that it was composed of AI.
Khalil is definitely a teacher who does not respect the time his students put into his class, definitely not a teacher built for a prerequisite class. Not only is most of the feedback he gives AI generated, but when you try to ask questions about the assignment in class, or about something wrong on canvas, he is very disrespectful.
If you've never seen the Disney show jessie watch it the butler Bertrum. Khalil seems nice but is very deceptive don't be fooled. He is just like the butler from this show seems nice but not really. I hate to this, but I was actually scared of talking to him about my work. I don't think that should be happening. I despised this class. :(
This class was unnecessarily difficult. He spent more time giving random dad lectures than talking about the weekly assignments. I easily spent 40+ hrs/wk on the reading, writing multiple 2000+ word essays, watching movies, and attending class. The group project was not clear, asked a lot of us in a short time, and was very difficult to complete.
To be honest,Khalil gave me a tough time at school. I even lost hope and I was taking two of his classes CMST 227/101. Realizing his unfriendly and toughness nature was late and I had no option than going on with the classes,I wished I could go back in time and drop the classes. Tough indeed!
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He does not upload assignments in time and then continues on to give us 2 big assignments in 1 day and if we do not go over the minimum expectations he doesn't give you a good grade. For being a communication's teacher he is the worst communicator I have ever interacted with. Worst class ever.
Honestly, I went into this class knowing the reviews on this professor. I have followed his instructions and format of assignments, and I still got a bad grade. I have tried to reach out to him, and I got blamed in the end. He was very inconsiderate of my time, and my schedule. This was very unfortunate for me as I needed the credit.
I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school because I wanted to die before making it to his class DO NOT TAKE
I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YO
He would give us a hard time if we didn't turn in assigainments, but he wouldn't post the assigainments, so there was nothing to turn in. he would proceed to blame us for it
