Avoid at all cost. Exams do not resemble what is taught in class. Wording on exam/quiz are horrible. Doesn't scale! Final grade can replace overall but good luck passing the final! Class avg. of 170 students is below a 30, but need a 50 to pass w/a D! embarrasses u in her office. Must go to class or ur off her good list.
Got out of here as soon as possible. The very first quiz she was praising people that got C's because those were the highest grades in our class of 150+. Doesn't give students a break (no scaling) although she teaches an extremely difficult subject! Seriously hope she gets the boot.
It is unfair to say Dr.Reddie is not helpful and an awesome professor. Orgo is a weed-out course, but she makes everything possible for you to understand and succeed. She knows everyone in her class and strives to be more than fair. You won't find a better professor in college!
She is great and she does her best. It is not her fault that the subject itself so damn hard. You gotta work you ass off to get a decent grade. No need to blame the professor or someone else and stop complaining! If you try, you will get what you deserve.
Orgo is definitely hard but Dr Reddie make it possible! If you spend time to study it, go to all the classes and pay attention to what she says, go to her review sessions,do extra problems, you can definitely pass this class, and even do well! She is more than willing to help her students succeed. Couldn't ask for a better professor for this course
Great teacher, hard class. Do and understand the problems in the book and the additional practice problems and you should be able to pull off a good grade.
Any student that attends every class, all the review sessions, reads the book, AND goes to tutoring, SHOULD be able to get a decent grade in this class. NOT with this professor. There is a lack of clarity in lecture, and tests are way more difficult than classwork or homework.
She is a great professor. you have to show her that you are making an effort and she will help you out a lot. exams are hard but if you study well, it isnt too much to handle.
One of the worst professors at UML. Very unclear and doesn't seem invested in the students. She was very unorganized and constantly belittled the class for doing so poorly and never placed the responsibility on herself. Avoid at all costs.
Orgo is not easy! Dr. Reddie tries to make it as clear as possible by explaining the mechanisms and working examples in class. If you are having difficulty, Dr. Reddie is more than willing to help, she cares a lot about her students and pushes them to work hard. Good preparation for the real world where it takes initiative to succeed.
Really great professor. Kind & helpful, with a sense of humor to boot. She seems to spend A LOT of her own time trying to help her students (making practice exams, problem sets, answering emails) and I think that is very refreshing in comparison to professors that just want you to leave them alone. The class is very hard work, but not impossible.
Works very hard to help her students and genuinely seems to care about them. She comes to class everyday with energy and vigor, and is always willing to explain things further if students have questions. Her quizzes and exams are not easy - she makes sure that we know our stuff - but with a considerable amount of effort, you can pass!
She is the best teacher for Organic I and II classes. She is very helpful and always encourage students in study. The grade based on 2 quizes, 2 exams and 1 final exam. No attendance taken but should go to her classes b/c it was more helpful than read the text book. Do all her practice problems and go to tutor for help, then you'll get good grade.
Dr. Reddie is by far the most dedicated professor at UML. Her class is not easy but it's manageable. Go to her tutoring program and go see her if you have any concerns. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you can't pass if you don't go.
Others don't lie when they say that Dr. Reddie is the most dedicated professor at UML. She is always there to help students, whether it be in her office hours or in class. She stops to answer any questions and addresses them clearly. Work hard in Orgo and your grade will reflect that. Also, participate in the tutoring program for free bonus points!
Preface: orgo is probably the most labor intensive and difficult course at the undergrad level. Dr. Reddie is as good as it gets! She is a good lecturer, dedicated to her students, and has an inovative style of teaching. It is an extremely difficult course but that's the material not the prof
Dr. Reddie will drop 1 quiz and 1 exam and she offers extra credit for attending tutoring sessions. She is a very tough tester and grader, and you MUST know the material inside and out because you will get blind sided on exams with her questions. She uses alot of practical questions that are hard to interpret in 1st year Orgo... Good Luck
Best way to learn this material is to study consistently study with a group in the tutoring center. It's not as hard as people make it seem, but it takes consistent practice. You can't have holes in your understanding if you plan on passing. You must dedicate at least 3 hours a week to efficient studying.
Organic Chem is VERY hard and requires complete mastery of every subject. You need to go to class, read the book, do all practice problems. Not keeping up with material is a death sentence. Go to tutoring for +7 points, and try hard on each exam cause cumulative final is impossible. Reddie is amazing and bumped my grade up when I was on the verge!
Orgo is hard, but Dr. Reddie legitimately cares whether or not her students are learning. She is super dedicated and puts a ton of her personal time and energy into her classes. Grading is more than fair, generous partial credit and 2 drop grades. Hated Orgo, loved this professor.
She cares a lot about her students, but she's cold and uncaring when it comes to her grading of exams. In other classes the professors will give you practice problems that reflect the exams, but she gives you basics to work on, then tests you on complex questions. If you don't know absolutely everything in the chapters and then some, you'll fail.
I took her organic chemistry classes over the summer, and honestly, I've never had a teacher be more helpful than she was. I wish she would come to my school and teach here! I didn't understand HOW chemistry actually worked until I had her.
She gives you rewards for doing well. The class is scaled and if you go to tutoring you get 7% on your FINAL average. Be aware tests are tricky and you will Make dumb mistakes that cost you points.
Only one dropped quiz and test are guaranteed in the course. She will add 7 points to your final grade only under the condition that you pass the course before she adds 7 points. Her tests are designed to throw you off and these mistakes will cost you alot of points.
Dr. Reddie is easily the best professor I have had at UML. She's dedicated, she goes the extra mile to help students in any way she can, and she has made a very difficult subject way more accessible through all of her efforts to teach it well. She cares about students and will always help them. I do not have enough good things to say about her.
This teacher did not want to help me in class. I wasnt so smart so I had a hard time getting help in class. and she ignored me...
Best teacher at UML. Goes above and beyond to help her students.
Professor Reddie is a great professor! Just pay attention and its an easy A!
Dr. Reddie is the best teacher I have had in my entire life for. instead of just reading off of a powerpoint like every other teacher, she actually has you follow along and do problems in your workbook and notes and won't move on until everyone is on the same page. Knows everything like the back of her hand. AMAZING professor!
The best professor Ive ever had. Unbelievably knowledgeable and caring. With that said, you fall behind an incredible amount if you skip. Exams are tough, tougher than the ACS final. Go to tutoring, go to class, do the workbook and you will pass with a good grade. Its a tough class, but she makes orgo fun, and... as easy as it can get...
I been really struggling with this class, and it seems like when I go to her for extra help she doesn't really want to help me.
She is , in my opinion, one of the most overrated professors at UML. By the standards of other Orgo professors her curriculum makes little sense. Everything builds up to the national standardized final but she does little to prep you for it. She says she'll give a lot of partial credit, but never expect that. She won't.
She was probably the best college professor I have ever had. She was a good teacher and made sure you knew the material. If you get on her bad side though you will be roasted.
Great professor. You have to work really hard to do well but she's always willing to work just as hard to help.
Shes a good professor, I feel like shes overrated by some students. She seemed to care a lot during the beginning and then halfway through, once material was getting harder, she seemed to give up. Also, she takes a very long time to grade. We found out our second exam grades the day of withdrawal.
Organic chemistry is one of the hardest courses (Orgo II), especially if you are not interested about it. If you show your passion about the class and show her that work hard, she will help you, but she doesn't care about you if you don't prove her that you are trying. The final covers both Orgo 1 and 2, and it's REALLY TOUGH.
Truly an excellent professor. Extremely caring. She works extremely hard for each and every student. Highly recommended
Dr Reddie goes aboveand beyond to help student succeed and relate organic chemistry to the real world. The key to success is thoroughly reading the textbook and taking notes
This prof is overrated. She makes Organic Chemistry tougher than it needs to be for engineers.
Dr. Reddie definitely makes organic chemistry hard, but she does it for the benefit of her students. She really cares about student success and wants you to really master the concepts of organic chemistry, not just understand it enough to pass. (That's why I'm retaking orgo II when I should've passed 2 years ago) Be sure to go to tutoring!
Only 3 quizzes, 3 tests with one drop each. Very difficult subject but Reddie makes it so much easier to learn. Come to class, and pay attention if you want to pass. Go to tutoring too. If you want to pass, you got to reach for it. She won't hand you an A. Amazing professor overall.
Dr. Reddie is AMAZING, easily the best professor I have had at UML. She can be extremely intimidating at first but is extremely open-hearted. DO THE WORKBOOK, DO THE WORKBOOK, DO THE WORKBOOK (and get it checked in tutoring).... this is your key to success in this course. Put your all into this course because Dr. Reddie goes above and beyond.
seems like a nice person in general but very overrated as a professor. she uses a standardized acs final and midterm for absolutely no reason. she makes organic chemistry even harder than it needs to be. she pretty much gave up on teaching in class the second half of the semester so we were essentially left to just figure it out on our own.
Dr. Reddie teaches Orgo in such a confusing complicated way and her exams are extremely hard. If you really want to pass with a good grade, then get ready to teach the subject yourself.
Orgo is a tough subject, but Dr. Reddie goes above and beyond for all of her students. If you show her that you are putting forth effort, she will invest extra time in you. One of the best professors that I have had.
Had her for orgo 1 and then 3 times for Orgo 2 cause she failed me by 2% and then .5%. She won't teach you anything so get ready to read the textbook solution manual and teach yourself. She makes you take the ACS exam as your midterm and final just to make the class harder. She'll get upset if the majority of the class does well on her exams.
Dr. Reddie is a great professor. Organic Chemistry is a difficult subject, but she tests you on your knowledge of the material the proper way, unlike previous professors Ive had (C- twice). She gives you opportunities for extra credit and she drops an exam and quiz grade. She wants her students to succeed. Attend tutoring for extra help.
Ok, She is one of the better professors of Umass Lowell. She can teach chemistry is generally good. She, however, says she is flexible but is not. I had a fever during the midterms and I emailed her if I could do it at a later date and she basically told me to take an incomplete and redo the course next semester. (she put it in a nice way)
Dr. Reddie is a great professor. She does a very good job presenting and explaining topics, and she truly cares that her students are successful. Organic Chemistry is going to be extremely difficult no matter who you take it with, but Reddie is top notch.
Reddie is a great professor for organic chemistry. That being said she does expect you to work for it! I was able to get by with just reading the textbook and going to tutoring .Great professor go to tutoring for extra credit and make sure you study and go to office hours If you need it. College is not going to hand you an A
I would advise taking a different professor if the option is available. Reddie is very smart but can come off as condescending at times. After the COVID online transition it took 5 weeks to receive an updated syllabus and she did not make accommodations for computer issues. The class somehow became harder with the transition.
Took Consumer Science with Professor Reddie this summer, 2020. Absolutely loved this course. It was obvious she cared for her students and she was very fair with her grading! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Say what you will about her, but Reddie is great at teaching. The content itself was definitely a lot, but when the class had to transition to online material, she recorded all the lectures very cohesively and made it easy to understand. Keep up with the workbook or you will fall behind. I did not go to tutoring and i still did decently well.
Dr. Reddie is the best professor for Organic Chem at UML. She listened to students' opinions and constructed the courses and lectures very effectively. She was always available after class and help students. For such hard class, as long as you're down to read the book and do practice problems, you will pass the class with either B or higher.
Dr. Reddie is obviously very intelligent and highly respected. BUT, she is unwilling to adapt her teaching style to benefit her students. She can be dismissive of questions frequently. Do all practice problem and make sure you know how to do them forward and backwards. This is gonna be a tough class, Im sorry if you have to take it...
Professor Reddie truly cares for her student and is constantly considering different factors to try and help and understand them. As long as you try in her class and practice the workbook and read the textbook you should be all set. There are numerous resources available to you.
Okay so Orgo is difficult, but Reddie is very intelligent and is a formidable professor. This class takes up a lot of your time, but it's needed if you want an A. Quizzes are pretty tough and unfortunately are quite different from the homework. Luckily, you essentially only need an 88% for an A, 83% for A- because of an extra credit policy.
Amazing & passionate professor, its clear she loves her job. Grade based on 5/6 quizzes, HW, & final. Tutoring for extra credit. The way we were taught was not quite the way we were tested. Quizzes were multiple choice but we did not receive much MC practice in class. This made the quizzes very difficult in my opinion, even after hours of studying.
Boring class. Takes too long to grade assignments.
Outstanding Orgo 1 professor. Also Orgo coordinator so it's best to take her, she'll take care of you. Very fair and cares about her students. Just pay attention and this class is very manageable. Couldn't recommend enough.
If possible try to take this course at a different university over the summer. You will save money and have a more enjoyable experience. Dr. Reddie is obviously very intelligent. But if you arent the straight A, school is life, pre-med student - do yourself a favor and dont spend thousands to get ridiculed and belittled. Spend it on vacation.
She is a great professor, and obviously passionate about her job but it is super lecture-heavy and reading-heavy. There are quite a few research papers, but they are short.
Passionate and intelligent professor but we were often expected to know more than we were taught in class. Use the textbook she recommends. Quizzes every other week make up most of grade.
Dr Reddie is one of the best professors I have ever had at UML. I took her classes 1 and 2 during the pandemic so online madness. It was every two weeks youd have a quiz. Quizzes are like 45% so you know thats a lot of work to put into. Shes flexible and she wants her students to pass. But you have to put in the effort. Tutoring is important too
Dr. Reddie is the best professor I've had. She wants you to learn. Read the book, watch videos, go to tutoring (you get EC).
Take her for consumer science to satisfy your science w a lab req, she does the experiments for, you all you have to do is watch the videos, classwork is easy and never graded, "quizzes" don't happen too often, and all answers can be found in the videos. The only downside is it takes her a while to grade. No final in the class, only 2 page papers!
This class is difficult, the grading is high but you have to work for the grade you want. Dr Reddie made me fall in love with orgo. Its a mystery how she did it. Go to tutoring, that would help a lot. Go to office hours ask tons of questions and study on your own. You will do great too
Dr.Reddie was awesome, class was easy and good for checking off a STEM requirement. There was about 3 papers but they only had to be 1.5-2 pages double spaced. Barely had to put effort in so you can focus on other classes and the class itself is still interesting.
She moves super quick but if you pay attention her explanations are so much clearer than the other professors. Quizzs aren't bad; 7% towards final letter grade if you do extra credit. She waits until last minute to assign homework and assigns 30-40 pages due in a few days. You have to put in a lot of time and effort outside of class to do well.
Dr Reddie offers a lot of extra credit from tutoring. For Orgo Chem 1, you have to purchase the textbook but honestly, I didn't even read it at all lol. Be prepared to complete 30 pages within 2 weeks or so for the homework checks. Quizzes are every other week. She records her lectures and posts them on blackboard in case you miss any.
great teacher but you have to put the work. u pretty much have to go to tutoring to get a good grade which isnt necessarilly bad. you do your hw in tutoring get it chekced then get a signiture. 30 signitures = +7% on overall grade. only issue is that theres so much to go over that sometimes she wont go over a topic that will end up on a quiz
Reddie is genuinely a gem! I came into orgo thinking I would fail, and came out of it with an A! You have to give this class your 100%, but trust me, its worth it. It's all about your work ethic and what you are willing to give. Reddie is great at explaining concepts in class, but you have to supplement with a lot of self study. You can do it! :)
Reddie is honestly one of the best in the department. However, the graders take forever to grade your quizzes. I don't know how but I somehow pulled an A- in this class. I highly recommend her for bio majors though because she's the one that will be teaching the majority of the Orgo Chem IIB, so this way you will know how she teaches beforehand.
She does not respond to emails for weeks. No idea what she grades on as it changes often. She waits until the last possible moment to grade for the semester. Week 1 assignments not graded until after the semester was over. Again, easy A but she is so frustrating to get in touch with and waiting on grades is inexcusable.
Best option for orgo; ended with an A both semesters! Her lectures move fast so you have to make sure you're paying attention and showing up to class regularly. Success on the quizzes depends on how much effort you put into studying outside of class. Go to tutoring, use the textbook, and find extra practice online. I believe in you!! Good luck :)
let me start off by saying that this is by the hardest class I have ever taken at uml and Professor Reddie is probably the best option. She is very fast but explains things in a good way. In class, we get a work book, and she goes over a few problems here and there. Her exams are fair but hard.
Dr Reddie is a QUEEN!! Pay attention to lectures, DO THE WORKBOOK, and you will be fine. Quizzes were fair and a lot of partial credit is given. +7% is added to final grade for 30 tutor sessions. Honestly made me love orgo. Dr Reddie is an icon. Don't be scared of orgo.
Take Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 with ONLY Dr. Reddie! She is truly the most engaging and caring professor I have ever had at UML, and she WANTS her students to understand the material and pass. She explains things so effectively and keeps students engaged throughout the whole class. If you don't take her for chem, you'll regret it!
PLS avoid!! She is well-educated in the material. However, for struggling students, she is not supportive, mostly rude and insulted that you have not understood the material from her teachings. Lecture material doesn't covers quiz content (60% of grade). Doesnt respond to emails! Made passing unachievable by struggling students! Had to retake twice
professor never answered any emails sent over the semester, in class assignments were never graded and everything on blackboard is multiple attempts. disorganized class management, but easy class for a gen ed.
Dr. Reddie is good at explaining difficult topics and making them easier to understand. The class felt a little disorganized as there were no clear notes, you just jump back and forth from the workbook to your notes. I didn't feel prepared for quizzes from the lectures but going to tutoring helped. Not enough time to get hw (usually 20-25 pgs) done
Took her for consumer science 1, was literally the easiest class I have ever taken. No tests, just questions on blackboard. Grade was just that and some in class labs that she has you do. Gold standard for filling a free elective spot, if that's what you're looking for. I don't know if I would take her for an advanced class though, that being said.
Dr Reddie is the best professor to take for orgo. She explains the concepts very well and prepares you for the quizzes. Definitely go to tutoring as it can help you understand the content better and the bonus points make a big difference on your grade.
Professor Reddie is the best teacher to have for Orgo 1 and Orgo 2. She's incredibly intelligent and knows what she's talking about. The information is difficult to take in at first but rewatching the lectures and going to tutoring really helps solidify what you learn in class.
I had high expectations from her other reviews but I don't think she was great. The material is already hard enough as it is and she goes really fast. If you want to do well dedicate your life to tutoring and the textbook. I wish she was more committed to helping her students succeed.
I took Professor Reddie for consumer science and it was honestly one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. You're graded on labs we do every week and easy quizzes on blackboard, and the labs are actually pretty fun. The professor is super nice and if you need lab science credits like I did, definitely take this class.
Wish I could take her again for Orgo II. She is one of the better profs for orgo and genuinely cares for student success, i.e. if you put in the effort and ask for help. Lecture material is covered extremely thoroughly and quickly, but the rest is really just practice. Definitely go to tutoring; the extra help and 7% grade boost carried my grade.
This is my second time taking orgo after failing with dr.horta first time around. Professor Reddie is excellent. She really empowers students and structures class for our success. Tutoring is provided everyday before class which really helps.
The content in the class is very hard. She is a nice woman and funny, but goes so fast in class. Disorganized class and notes all over the place. Quizzes hard to prepare for and not accurate on what we learn, 60% of the grade. Reading the textbook, tutoring and hours on hours of studying is what you need to pass. Hardest class I'll ever take!!!!
orgo 1, ruined my 4.0 gpa, only lectures, does not help students practice with course material, does not grade homework or give any feedback on homework (relies on tutors), doesn't grade homework based on accuracy so you will never know if you understand the course material. only constructive feedback is given on graded quizzes when it is too late
I felt like during lecture she said a whole lot of nothing. Like I learned but did not at the same time. Set up like pretty much every chem class, quizzes and hw make up majority of grade. Extra credit opportunity. I rented the textbook for orgo 1 and literally used it twice. Attendance is not mandatory besides for quiz, but not smart to skip.
You better pray the tutors are helpful.
An easy A course, as long as you do your assignments on paper and the blackboard, which isn't hard. Also for lab assignments with groups are fun, and as long as you and your partners can work together, it isn't that tough.
very easy class, but takes forever to grade things. class ended a week ago and she still hasn't input anything
I loved her as a teacher. She is very flexible and laughs along with our jokes and has only been nice. Highly recommend for a science elective.
If you are looking for a lab to complete, she didn't ask much. If you want to learn chemistry, know that we learned very little. Assignments were open-note and not much in the means of homework. The labs were a mess, she told us to study the procedures but changes tasks on the spot.
Dr. Reddie has not emailed our online class since the semester began and has made no effort to guide us through weekly material or clarify assignments. Everything in this online class is easy, but she takes forever to grade (despite paying $1200+), and my email from two weeks ago went unanswered. Never again.
Amazing professor. Like prime Tom Brady in the clutch
