Dr.Ma is a great instructor. He keeps it entertaining yet maintains professionalism and helpfulness. I would def. take his class again for bio142.
He is the worst professor so far!.Dont take him if u want A OR B . He likes to fail people. he has favourites.... He doesnt have that much knowledge of teachng! his accents are horrible! He is mean. His exams are very difficult!

He is a good teacher..If you come to class and stay the whole time you will get extra credit and he is very helpfull..Although his lecture exams are difficult he tells you what is excatly is on his lab tests.I would def take him again for 162..
He gives reviews and tells you exactly what's going to be on exams both lab and lecture. He gives great examples in lecture to help you better understand. And he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. What more can you ask for?
It is easy for a teacher to say that an "incapacity to learn" is the reason that his or her students did not do well. In this case it was the instructor's incapacity to teach that failed many students. I was lucky though. I did all the extra credit, I spent 3 hours a night studying, and studied with four other students and I barley scraped by.
His first test was an essay test. I handed in a 8 and 1/2 page essay and got a B- because he said I did not go into enough depth. This was the 1st test. Avoid this teacher. I learned more by reading the book. He never went over the answers to the Lab. He told us that he did not understand genetics and to figure it out.
That was the worst professor I have ever had at NVCC! He teaches in disorganized manner, he is very unfair in grading and confusing in lab and lecture exams. Never goes over mistakes on tests with you and on top of that delays grade results with couple of weeks. You won`t clearly know how you have done in his class until your grade is unfixable.
I have mix review..I am going to say A&P is hard period, but his teaching methods was just confusing. I would be lying if he was not helpful, but he needs to create a teaching plan and stick to it. I felt like he was grading based on students emotions.
This professor was not helpful at all.He was not organized and he did not give your grades to you until the last minute. I would not recommend him to anyone.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. Does not know the material he is teaching, is spiteful, and completely scattered. The only way I made it through the class was through teaching myself and with learning with other classmates.

Totally loved him, i took bio 141 6:30 am in the morning and it wasnt that bad at all. This teacher made the class fun. He knows his material well and can really teach. He is super funny and cute. Take him!
He can be humorous at times. Pay attention +go to class. Can be confusing when he's messing w/ you. A&P is mostly memorization so study hard + keep up with reading. He always posts slides last minute or after lecture so remind him! He has favorites, slightly disorganized, like any class study at home,don't waste lab time LEARN SOMETHING!!!
Professor Ma is extremely sarcastic and at times funny. He isn't as bad as some of his reviews say! You just need to study. Going to class is important if you want to do well. He is unorganized! But you learn to deal with it. I would take him again!
Dr. Ma is AMAZING!! You will actually learn in this class. If I read all these reviews about Dr. Ma before signing up for the class I would actually have believed it. All these negative reviews are inaccurate he is one of the best. You are a fool to fall for these lazy folks who don't attend class nor study. His teachings are very effective.
He is funny and, this semester, gave out lots of extra credit. He cares, just has a bit or a hard time showing it. To do well in his class: study and read the book!
He is so disorganized. You have to beg him to post his notes and the study guides. He does everything last minute. He hands out a ton of extra credit so people can pass his class. His lectures don't make sense. If you don't believe me take his class, sit thru a lecture, and then you will know first hand who is telling the truth. It is your money!

Dr. Ma is an excellent teacher. He uses funny stories and helpful phrases to help you learn and remember the material. To do well you MUST attend class, study, read the book, and not waste lab time. He does not give A grades away you have to earn them. His class will prepare you for a career in the medical field. A+ rating.
I find it laughable that poor reviews are being given by people with notably poor grammar and syntax. I had Dr. Ma for 141 & 2. He is reasonable, concise on what he requires, posts a fair amount of extra credit and tells you exactly what to study. I did poorly on the tests I didn't study for and well on the ones I did. You get out what you put in.
Took dr. ma the first year he taught he really didn't know what he is doing and doesn't care to much for teaching but he is very helpful and keeps class interesting the class environment is more like a friend environment excited that he is still there two years later hope he is the same because i intend to take BIO 142 with him attendance important
The class is hard, it is a lot of information to learn and is not a class you can just cram before hand. He starts out tough, but as the semester continues he gets easier. He is the most helpful if you catch him without an audience, laugh at his jokes, and be respectful.
This guy clearly doesn't want to teach and doesn't care about teaching. I'm not sure why he is still there. As you can see from prior posts, others agree.

I took him over the fall semester in 2011 for Bio 142. He gave out alot of extra credits and helped the students to pass. I struggling in the class bio 142, he helped me to understand how to take a test plus the material. I ended up with an A in the class.
He is very easy on grading. he gave us a lot of points to go study in the science learning center. I though i was gonna fail the class, but i needed up with An B. he's very knowledgeable and care alot for students. I wish he is teaching other classes as well.
Told you from day one what was expected and that people hate him. Never posts things on time as stated and tells you how much he dislikes teaching and shares way too much personal information (his salary, gambling habits). He puts material on the test that was not covered in class so teach yourself the material.
Some open book/home tests, extra credit, points back, but tests are poorly written & on untaught info. Rude comments, vague/wrong explanations, spiteful if questioned. Lacks transparency-real grades not on BB, on spreadsheet all can see. Strong students can teach themselves & get Bs. If you need an A, or good teachers to get Bs take someone else:(
BIO 142 with Dr. Ma was a fun adventure! Notes and lectures go directly with the text and if you pay attention in class and review the notes and text there are NO surprises, it's all there! I was SO happy to have a professor who wanted to do labs and they were informative and FUN! I would recommend Dr. Ma to anyone who is serious about BIO!
3x said it’s his job to fail 30% of us. Kind of confusing bc doesn’t explain well, gets frustrated if you keep asking him. Labs were him pointing quickly to models and then going to his computer. Seems to use lots of extra points to make up for bad test questions.
Wanted to like him but was disapponted. I really like the subject but felt the professor couldn't explain things as well as they needed to be. He's hard because he isn't clear, the notes don't always match the book and he puts things on at the last minute that he didn't cover in class.

I didn't even open the book because i was only listened in class and look at the note only one time before the exam and i got an A in class. he is giving you alot of extra credit plus alot of review times before the exam
He only reads PowerPoint presentation and talks about grad school! On test he is very tricky and does not care for students, if you really want to learn don't take him!!
He's awesome and easy. Just go to the science learning center and you'll get 16 extra credit points. His tests are fairly hard, but just listen when he goes over the test at the end. He gives tons of extra credit, so just do them! He is the best bio teacher i had by far.
there is no reason for you not to get an A/B in this class because he gives 16 extra creds for going to the science lab and some more throughout the course. He also drops the lowest test grade for both inclass and lab lectures. Just listen to him when he does test reviews, and ull do well.he is the best prof i ever had. im taking him again for 142
Comments claiming that the tests don't cover the material are false. He gives us the exact same questions that are on the tests, so... When I took the class in the fall, I was expecting a low grade because science is a weak spot for me. I passed with a B. I recommend him to anyone taking Anatomy & Physiology.
He's a great professor.Very funny, nice, and does a lot to help his students do well. Gives everyone a chance for extra credit and lets you know what will be on the test during his review. some tests can be fairly difficult but just pay attention during the review and study the material. This professor offers 5% of extra credit for going to the science learning center throughout the whole entire semester. (once a week)You need to pay attention during his lectures to pass his exams. He does drop the lowest lecture/lab grades! TAKE HIM!

My favorite professor! Super funny and he likes teaching. Makes sure you don't fall asleep even if it's late and you are tired. Just listen and take notes! Also gives extra credits. He is awesome!!
I enjoyed my class with Dr. Ma. He is a student himself so he understands that working and being a student is tough. He treats students like friends. He gives extra credit for those to go to the science learning center. Also he will highlight what will be on the test. You should average a B if you pay attention.

Dr. Ma is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. He's not necessarily an easy A, but if you try, listen, and respect him, then you should have no problems getting an A. BIO 141 is a tough course. Dr, Ma made it okay and fun. He literally tells exactly whats on the exams always. He gives a lot of points and if you show you care about his class and show up he will help you a lot. Dr Ma is nice. He always makes class more comfortable and funnier. It's not an easy A class. There are 4 lecture tests, 4 lab tests and you have to put your effort into it. However, I had good time in his class. And I found I learned something from his stories.

I really enjoyed Dr. Ma's class. I wouldn't say it's necessarily an easy A, but if you pay attention you'll be fine. You don't really have to have the book, but it's recommended. You can tell he wants all his students to well, but he won't just give it to you. Really funny guy too! He also gives a lot of extra credit!
Dr Ma is a great person. However, if you want to gain knowledge stay out of him. He reads slides not lecturing; waste time talking personal issuesfun. His exams are tricky although he gives reviews. We are doing final this week 5 chapters, no lectures, no review. It is going to be an Open book ex. Not recommended for any knowledge seeker student.
BIO142 is a tough course. You have to put a lot of effort in studying if you want an A. Dr. Ma is the best professor for BIO 141142, so take him. Pay attention in class, take notes and jot down when he says "remember this." Please take him if you don't want to fail. His class is never boring. Trust me you will not regret it.
Dr. Ma is amazing! Took summer 2015 class. His lectures are not boring and he's pretty funny. You will learn and pass as long as you make an effort. Do not think for a second because he gives leeways you will pass a test. You MUST make an effort to study the lesson. Trust me on this lol. Would recommend him. I took Bio 141 with this summer, i was blown away with amazing lecture. He took his time and did review for everything test. He gave us half take home half in class for each exam. He wanted us to do well and he does not want anybody to fail. He gave us al ot of extra credit and do review. Amazing instructors. Funny too.
It seemed like this summer was not his best compared to other years. He made us do two extra credit which he never counted and then messaged us after the semester was over "The maximum extra credit point is 10 which purely bases on your lecture attendance and lab's participation." The final exam was on 5 chapters which he never lectured.
Dr. Ma is an amazing teacher ! I definitely recommend him. You HAVE to study to get an A in his class but if he sees you are trying and participate he will curve your grade. Dr. Khanh does not speak the best English and his test are a grammatical nightmare. His study guides are helpful to a point but be ready to see things you haven't seen before on the exams. All you can do is go back through powerpoints and study. He is not a bad teacher and he is fair, Biology is just not an easy A
I just took Bio 141 with him on monday and wednesday's morning. Bio 141 has a lot of information, but he only pointed out the important information for us to study for the test. He is very funny, give extra credits, review before the exam and one flashcard 3x5 for every test. He is very knowledge and he is willing to help and caring. respect him

Dr. Ma allows 3x5 flashcards for the tests, but a couple people in his other classes would try and cheat and use more then that, he said he would not allow flashcards for the next semesters so good luck if its true! His tests can be tough and if you don't know the information then your screwed. The book is very helpful trust me !! & PAY ATTENTION!
I took Bio 141 over fall 2015 semester. he is an good instructor and listen to his review before the test and when he said this will be on the test, it will be on the test. he is really nice and helping out everyone out. Very good instructor. Easy A if you listen and show up for class.
Dr. Ma is a fairly good professor; however, he does tend to just read off the slides, but he gives examples and points out the important information you need to know for the exams. His exams can be tricky, but just pay attention to his reviews and study his powerpoints and you will be fine.

definitely take another course with him he has a sense of humor. He wants all students to pass but, you have to study especially because grade is based only of test, no homework or class work does give you test reviews on what exactly will be on test, lecture in class basically read off powerpoint you must print.@the end will help grade xtrapoints
Dr. Ma is very funny and laid back but there isn't much of an opportunity to raise your grade in the class. The only things that are graded in the class are the lecture and lab exams. His lab exams are pretty straight forward (mostly got A's on them) but his lecture exams were not (ended up with a B in the class).

Very knowledgeable teacher; however he goes through his power points very fast and does not provide specifics on the things to expect on test. He is very rude and sarcastic, if you ask a question be prepared to be clowned and to feel stupid in front of the class. I would never recommend this professor to anyone.
We are almost ending our semester with Bio 141. I really like him because he is very caring for his students. He doesn't want anybody to fail his course by giving his students take home exams and extra credits. You will like him if you take it. He told us from the first day of class, there will be people don't like him. He is willing to help you.

Dr. Ma is a hilarious professor. Some people might see him as "unethical" but he means well and really knows how to engage with his students. He does go over a study guide during class so make sure to pay attention. (Most of the class recorded him so we could go back and listen) There are exactly 5 Lecture exams and 5 Lab exams. TAKE HIM!!!!
I took the 5 week session which is FAST PACED. Reads off the powerpoint very quickly. He does a review before every test which is very helpful. He tends to gets off topic really easily. Hard to take notes in that class. Loves to talk about himself. Overall he does everything in his power to give us extra credit and help us pass the class
I just finished taking the summer course with Dr. Ma. Overall, the experience was really great! He tells you the areas to focus on for the exams, gives a study guide, and prepares you well, for exactly what the exam will cover. It's shocking that there are any negative reviews for him tbh. He has a great sense of humor and enjoys making an impact!
Professor Ma is a good teacher. He guides you with what is really needed in the exams. He might seem silly and random but he is just trying to keep the class entertaining. He will throw out some life inspiration/ facts with harsh yet funny honest truths about life as well as spasific things. I really enjoyed his class. I would suggest him again!
I took Doctor last semester for Bio 142 during fall 2017. His Bio 142 is much easier than bio 141 if u r taking with him. I took Bio 141 with him and taking Bio 142 with someone during summer 2017 receive C in the course. took Bio 142 with him in the fall, i took his course and I got an A in it. He is really funny and give you alot of extra and review for the exam plus the flash card for test. I took him for both 141 and 142.
Very humorous, but makes sure works gets done. Be sure to study more than what he tells you, because at times you will see a little extra on the exam. One of the best professors so far.
Professor MA is the BEST professor I have encounter in all my years of school. He makes things so easy to understand all while throwing funny jokes your way. His engaement with the class is amazing because he gives you real life problems that help you understand the material. I took him for Bio 141 & 142 and passed with a good grade.
This professor is very unorganized during class time and does not know the material himself. He also makes inappropriate comments during class. He is open to questions but then makes you feel dumb and insults you for asking a question. His lectures consist of him mumbling and rapidly reading the powerpoint, and does not explicitly explain the info.
Disorganized, unprofessional, never followed syllabus, went off topic a lot. Has very low expectations, which I found insulting & demeaning of the quality of education I was receiving. Will take another prof for BIO 142. If you are 18 and looking to skate by in life-this is your guy. Older and dedicated students-look elsewhere.

He is a good professor by teaching the lectures but strangely this semester he didnt even grade lab hw and attendance. The only way passing this class is do well the exams, which are easy. Got my grades based on exams , obviously with the rest would of have gotten a A. Strangely a good professor.

Enrolled for his BIO 141 class. He turned it from a 15 week class to a 13 week class. Eventually he decided to drop the class without noticing us and a different professor is teaching now. He is very well known for changing his mind all the time and being unreliable.
Took his 2 week class for NAS 2, great professor. Lecture heavy, but expected. Nice guy, funny, cares about his students. Tests are not difficult, he is good at explaining difficult concepts.
