Accent and use of english is a little scary, everything comes straight out of the textbook. End of chapter problems assigned for class/homework. warning: she WILL keep you for the entire class, even those night classes until 9:45.
Amazing what is considered a teacher nowadays! This woman is supposed to be a doctor (Doctorate) and can barely use english properly. For fun ask questions and see if she in any way understands your question much less answers it. She barely seems to have a grasp of the subject and has no concept of how to explain something simply. Just awful!
Great instructor, considering this was a 6 weeks class. Friendly and helpful. I had no problem understanding her. She gave review for final exam and extra credit. She gave points for efforts. It is not difficult to get A or B. You get out what you put in. The book, however, is not that great.
This teacher tries very hard to work with you. But at time she does seem like she can't grasp concepts in English. Didn't give homework back to learn from mistakes but some HW problems were in the tests, does give points for trying. Wouldn't take again.
if you are going to learn about computers, this is the person to guide you.
This is my first have this Professor and she is pretty good.
Helpful and made learning easier.
Going into this class I had no programming experience and definitely learned a lot. Unfortunately the tests and quizzes are difficult. The book for the course doesn't work well with her notes but her notes are thorough for what to expect on the exam. Be prepared to work for your grade. The class is extremely tough as a 6 week course.
Dr. Sibayan does an excellent job of catering to her students needs. She goes beyond that of a normal prof. for the ones who ask for the help, and allows freedom to the students who are self sufficient. I highly recommend enrolling with her. Just be aware that if you are new to programming a 6-week course is not for you, no matter who teaches it.
Considering it was a 6 week course and at some points the sections got very hard but if you ask for help the professor will undoubtedly take the time to work with you until you grasp the concept. Her notes and explanations were straight to the point. Will definitely take again and highly recommend this professor.
Dr. Sibayan is a great teacher because she is fully qualified, she knows what she is talking about, her BS degree is in line with her MA degree, she perfectly masters Filipino and English language and when she teaches she walks extra miles with her students.
Great class, professor is very helpful and knowledgeable!!!
Descriptive instructions and onscreen learning tools used to its maximum teaching potential. To a certain degree, I had a hard time understanding what the professor was trying to say. Her accent at times hindered my ability to comprehend the material. As an overall experience, it was easy to grasp, but challenging enough to learn the material.
She annunciates the incorrect syllables, and uses the long I sound instead of the short I sound. If you ask her a question, she will reiterate the same thing she already said over and over until she thinks you're satisfied with the answer. Most people who teach will try to reword, or use a different example if the issue isn’t clear the first time.
I like Dr Kaye I feel I learn a lot in her Class
Professor was great. Cares to see her students do well. Offered extra credit and review guides that really helped on exams.
The professor is awesome. She make it a sure that the student understand clearly and definitely entertain question as much as she could. She is particular on learning the basic so student won't have a hard time understanding the discussion. She explain clearly as much as she want the student to absorb the discussion.
Awesome teacher and knows what she is doing, very fun and friendly, explains each topic well and i will always look for this professor for my classes
Class was confusing due to how she explains things. Like hearing something you are used to in a different order than you are used to. You have to think about what she means as well as learn the subject. She doesn't give good examples and doesnt return work quickly. I had to read chapters twice to get an understanding. Not for the new to programming
She wasn't good at explaining things at all. Didn't give papers back in a timely manner, or provide very much hands on activity. Luckily, the textbook wasn't a terrible read. I recommend using the additional tools offered from the author of the book if you are new to programming. Study everything possible for quizzes and exams. She's sporatic.
Dr. Kaye helped me a lot to understand what was quite new for me. Clear and consistent. Must read the book.
Easy. Period. You should take this class and professor.
She speaks great English being that it's her 2nd language. Few times she showed how the theory worked in actual code. Attendance and participation are key. She is super willing to help, although a bit slow returning stuff on time or answering emails. She wants you to learn, I felt she genuinely wants and enjoys helping. Would def take her again.
Professor is not clear in English, often times sounds as if she doesn't actually know the meaning to what she is saying, or if she does she doesn't know how to say it correctly. Hard to understand the programming language from someone you can't really understand language from in the first place. Wouldn't take again.
my professor is one of the best I have taken so for. she take the time out to explain what we do not understand, she is very understanding, gives good feedback, give pop quizzes to sharpen our skills. I would definitely take this professor again if I have the chance.... she is awesome... love her style of teaching and the way she convey her materi
Dr Sibayan is a great professor. She always take time to explain the concept of all chapters one by one. Then, she speak clearly. Definitely, Dr Sibaryan is one of the best professor at PBSC.
Dr ibaryan is a great professor. She always takes time to explain the concept of each chapter of COP 1000 course presented in the book and also in PowerPoint. She is always available to answer student questions . She speaks clearly with appropriate voice. Definitely, DR Sibaryan is one of the best professor at PBSC.
Many students say that professor Sibayan does not speak clearly. That's a lie. She speaks very clear and explain the course chapter by chapter. I will suggest other students to take her. For your COP100 & COP1220. I took her twice for those classes. You won't regret of having her for any of this class.
I would definitely suggest other students to take her. She is an expert on teaching . She wants all of her students to learn and understand the class. I will not judge any professor for return homework late just for one week or one class. Take her! You'll be happy and learn something in that course.
Dr. K is a very experienced, easy to understand, and incredibly friendly and approachable if you have any doubts about the material. Encourages learning and doesn't push material just to say it got covered making sure the material covered is understood. Will highly recommend, hope to to be able to take her again. Expects participation.
I took her for cop1000. It's my very first computer class. The way she teaches is easy to understand. She cares about her students. If you don't understand something, she will explain it in a different way. She speaks perfect English. I'll take her again.
Dr. K is passionate about teaching and the level of effort she exerts in her lessons is clearly evident. She is fair and paces the lectures to the class without losing sight of all the material that must be covered. Prepare to be challenged. She will not just hand you a grade. You have to work for it. She has earned my respect and admiration.
It's a laugh. It's incredibly easy and as long as you submit the work on time you'll get an A. Her lectures are pretty boring because she just reiterates the same thing over and over instead of explaining. If you have a hard time understanding accents I wouldn't suggest taking her as she can be somewhat difficult to understand.
Dr. Sibayan is an excellent professor!
Dr. Sibayan is an incredible professor. Don't expect your grade handed to you, she will make you work hard and earn your grade unlike most of the stories I've heard about in other CGS1100 classes. If you want a class where you can learn a lot then take her! You won't regret it!
This class was great! Dr. Sibayan is an amazing professor. She is there for you and wil help you with any questions you have. I definitely learned so much. Would take her again.
Dr. Sibayan is the best of the best, She is a Prof. that I will never forget. I highly recommend.
I took her last spring, it was really hard. If you don't know anything about Microsoft, then don't take her. It will pain you a... I don't recommend to anyone
Very knowledgeable professor. She is mastering what she teaches. I will recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Kaye is a great professor! I was lucky to have her in the spring for Introduction to Programming Logic. She is very knowledgeable and knows the material very well. Her lectures are clear and precise. Some reading of the material before class is preferred as that will help you understand the material better and she expects class participation.
She is an amazing professor! Dedicated and passionate about her work and will go above and beyond to help you understand the material . Gives extra credit and expects class participation but thats a good thing since it makes the class fun lol. I reccomend her to anyone you will not be dissapointed. Put in study time of your own and you will excel
I love Dr. K! Her lectures and power points are always helpful and focus on examples that really help you out. You definitely NEED the book, we went through the whole book. She really cares about her students and will remember your name by the end of the class. As long as you use good communication she will be more than fair. Spring'16 CGS1100
This was my second time taking Dr.K. I took this class in the summer and we got a lot covered. I wish there was more time in the Summer'16 Term so we could have took a little more time on certain lessons. But she is a great teacher and really helps you understand the information. Great Powerpoints/lectures. In class work very important, NEED book!
Really nice teacher. She offers lots of extra credit work, quizzes are multiple choice, and as long as you communicate with her about absences, late assignments, etc. she will be understanding. Excel and Access were the toughest sections so really study those. Word and PowerPoint were a breeze. Thanks prof! - C.V
I had Dr. K for the past three 3 semesters (CGS1100, COP1000, and CIS2321)because a student referred me to her. I enjoyed to be in her class because, she takes time to make you understand the concepts. She is always willing to encourage her students to get an A for her class. If you don't get it, that means you didn't prepared enough.
Dr. Kay is an amazing professor. She is willing to help as long as you want to get it done. Regardless of her accent i UNDERSTAND everything she say?explain.... as ling as you come to class and do your course requirements, EASY A
I love her! Shes a great prof
She is a great professor, her lectures are very clear and it is easy to understand the concepts. The homework isn't that hard and you get about 2 a week. There are short quizzes every two chapters that aren't hard. Easy to pass if you do the homework and pass tests. Only issue was is that she is a slow grader and is VERY slow to respond to email.
Assigns enough homework for two classes. Most pointless and uninformative lectures I've ever had to sit through. Tests are obscure questions she just pulls off the internet, they have nothing to do with anything covered in class. Worst teacher I've taken all year.
Great professor and very caring. Do your part as a student and she will help you all the way.
All tests are announced, she even extends due dates for homework. Very caring and knowledgeable professor! Those who complain about paperwork probably dont know how to study at all
She's an OK professor. Easy class, you do need the book and it's basically at your own pace just make sure you don't fall too behind.
stay on her good side, gives lots of extra credit and doesn't want to fail anyone
Pay attention and stay on top of your work you'll do great!
This is kind of complicated, she is a sweet lady at heart. The problem was this, if you don't have an idea of the material of the class before taking it, you will have a hard time. She does her best to try to help students, but her teaching is all over the place, you don't want to go to that style of teaching after being at work all day.
I do not have any background into Programming, so having her class is a dream. I totally disagree that she is all over the place, in fact, her lectures are on point. She even simplifies some complex examples from the book - all clear. She truly helps students pass if you are willing to work with her. Highly recommend!
Easy A. If you have any type of background in Microsoft, you will most definitely pass. Assignments may get boring at times. Class is a GPA booster
Easy A but a waste of money. She taught very little and expected the class to teach themselves as she even stated herself. She would give me attitude if I had a question after class. Not only did she love to brag about her skills and qualifications, but she truly had neither. Be ready to self-teach.
Best professor, easy A, easy class
GPA booster! This class was super easy, just show up and you'll pass. All the work was online so you weren't bound to the classroom but attendance goes towards your grade; as long as you showed up, and did your work, you're fine. She also is great about extra credit and allows students to retake assignments and bring up their grades.
Cut off email contact thru Blackboard, didn't answer questions, videos were choppy and explanations were not clear. Courseware links broken. Course is on auto pilot...
She is definitely one of the hardworking professors at PBSC. She is caring and puts effort on making the students learn. I appreciate that she takes time on how I can make things better for my work. She is considerate but wont sacrifice the quality of the course. She is a true inspiration.
The course is not easy, but what makes this class interesting is she is making the effort to simplify complex concepts. Visually running codes through flowgorithm is very helpful for me. If you communicate properly, you wont have any problem. She knows her craft and very passionate on what she does. Definitely one of the best professors I ever had.
very passionate and will take time on checking if you understand the lesson.
She takes time on helping students. She checks if you understand the lesson.
Nice professor. Super easy to pass the class, just do all the work and show up.
One of the best teachers at PBSC. Very caring teacher and quick to respond to emails as well. This class has a lot of work but the work is easy. Just set aside the time to get the work done and you will pass this class with an A.
Dr. K. is the best professor I've had at PBSC. She is caring and very helpful. You will a lot of programming foundation and she goes beyond as a professor. Definitely recommend. Thank you Dr. K. for being such a big help to all your students.
She made sure that we are learning while balancing our mental being. During this time, very seldom you would see committed professors like her. She is truly caring and wont give up on you. Very professional, fair and well respected. I admire her as my professor and inspires me to be better on what I do.
I do not get what the negative comments are coming from, I had a great semester with Dr. K. Professors are not perfect, but you can definitely see that she is doing her best to address everyone's needs. Some students just want an easy way out, c'mon guys, you are in college already and some are acting like a kid. Dr. K. is one great prof!
Dr. K. taught me to be patient and really study. Her passion to what she does is amazing. What I really like about was the real life application of what we were doing in class. Her programs are great. Thanks Dr. K.
She is a insult to your intelligence. Runs the course in auto pilot on a terrible software that you really have to manipulate if you want a 100%. I'm a straight A student I know there are multiple conclusions to get solutions you need. This book also teaches them but she runs everything off a software that is so touchy it is frustrating.
I took Dr. K for COP1000 as well as CGS1100, I will say Dr. K is awesome and knows her stuff, but the course is not necessarily easy. You have to do the work, read, and participate if you want an A. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunities, and most assignments she will give multiple attempts in CGS, not as many attempts in COP1000. Take!
Honestly I love this professor she was super sweet always willing to work with you and give you time to complete work. Her quizzes and tests are easy. Just read the textbook and you should be a-okay.
Took her during COVID distance learning. The class is already an easy A. If you have a background in whatever is being taught, it's an easy ride. As such, there is not much Professor Sibayan can teach. Her lectures are just her going over what she had assigned you earlier. You can talk to her through e-mail/Remind whenever. Generally a good choice.
Online classes suck. Dr. Kharis Kerby Sibayan is a very good teacher I haver her in cgs100 and she is great mostly because it is remote and I can see her and she can lecture in a live class and cgs is a breeze. On the other hand COP is all online due to COVID and it is a nightmare learning python and C++ without proper demonstration and examples
The teacher gives plenty of extra credit, If you just stay on top of your work you will coast through the class and end up with an A. Her teaching online is mostly just going over the assignments and explaining them. Her communication is phenomenal with her students! She is also lenient as well with late assignments!
Shes nice, but prepare for a TON of busywork. After the 1st week, she never updated the schedule so you didnt know how much you had to do until she told you. Also assigned additional programming assignments for tests & quizzes last minute that she never mentioned in class. Tests were long and tedious. Uses zybooks and not Cengage which is a plus.
Get ready to teach yourself! I took her class online. She posts lectures from other professors from 2016. Doesn't follow HER OWN syllabus. I ALWAYS did my assignments on time but would always receive an email from her saying it was overdue. She gives no instructions. Relies solely on SIMnet. Completely on autopilot. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!
She tried to help when she could.
Simple class, if you can take your time and learn to program you will do fine. Nothing difficult just Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and other programs. All have interactive homework assignments.
Professor does not respond in a timely manner, does not care about students well being not helpful
If you genuinely want to learn something and care about computer science (and are new to it), do not choose this professor. I'm not going to sit here and tell you she is a terrible person, because she isn't. Every professor does things differently, but she is not made for teaching new Comp Sci majors. She isn't communicative either.
Would recommend taking her. Her online class was pretty easy, and the homework went by pretty quick especially if you pay attention an know what you're doing. She likes your camera to be so she can see you. Because who wants to talk to a blank screen with no interaction?
She does not care you until its too late. Very unresponsive outside the lecture, unclear coding instructions, and takes FOREVER to grade. I have never felt such a loss of passion for what I do because of a professor. Will randomly add to assignments and not post about it. Like CS? Save yourself the brainpower and stress and avoid her at all costs!!
took her online. Taught myself everything this semester. I'm a new CS major and didn't learn anything the whole semester. She doesn't respond to emails at all. Gives 0's on submitted assignments. Don't take her fam.
Grades late, no assignment grades until VERY LAST DAY, absolutely NO FEEDBACK. No recorded lectures, relied ONLY on textbook. Online textbook requires knowing FOUR languages despite being an intro class, doesn't even teach these. Only passed because of group effort outside class, otherwise definitely would've failed with F. No positives to mention.
Professor is fair and realistic. She tells you what exactly what to do and set expectations. Students who complain that she relied on the textbook, isn't that the purpose of using the textbook? I would rather use it than others who would require but not use any content.I feel that she is really passionate on helping students.
Her demonstrations was very helpful. She provides clear course orientation at the beginning and what I really like is her reminders every week. Students must understand that being in an online environment means you need to have good time management. Dr. K. helped me see that. I love her and she is very passionate on what she does.
Even though the class is live online, I never felt left out. She expects you to participate. She gives opportunities to ask questions and most importantly she inspired me to believe that I can do things. She is not perfect, but she taught me to study and never give up on improve my programs and also myself. Thank you Dr. K.
I didn't get a good grade for this class, but I want to thank her for helping me get through the semester. She treats everyone (not only the bright students) but students like me who are quiet and needs assistance.I changed for the better.I honestly do not have issue on communication in fact she is one of those responsive professors i ever had.
She is a great professor. Clear on her expectations and you will definitely do some work, but doable. If you plan your time you will get it done. She takes time on demonstrating the projects. Thanks Dr. K.
The Professor really wants the students to understand the topics and she simplifies complex topics which makes it very simple. She also was very understanding with deadlines and cared more about students actually understanding the topics. Definitely would recommend anyone to take her whenever they can!
Would not recommend as an online course. She'll post assignments 2-3 days before they're due (most online classes will have the full schedule out for you beginning of the year). No rubric for assignments and doesn't grade until the very end of the course. The material of the class wasn't difficult but the way it operated was.
I learned a lot from Dr. K. Her due dates are twice a week. One weekday and one weekend. I have no problem accessing the modules and she provided the materials effectively.
The project we did in class truly applies what the course application. Some of the projects were hard but I learned a lot of techniques. The gave 3 attempts for each and gave us weekly reminders that kept me on track. I like that the activities showed the demonstrations then let you try it at the end.
She assigns a lot of busy work. She does not provide deadlines from the get-go. She waits until the end of the course to grade. She assigns a 500-word discussion post and replies weekly. The SimNet program will sometimes mistakenly take off points but she is not willing to review for you. The lessons are easy, but the workload is overkill.
This class isn't bad at all. It's this teacher that is abhorrent. Sibayan will message constantly telling you that you didn't submit work without checking to see that you did. Simnet somehow always manages to send the wrong grade over to Canvas, and she never addresses it. She expects a 500 word discussion a week and takes 3-4 weeks just to grade.
I enjoyed Professor Sibayan's Intro to Programming course a lot. The workload was easy to keep up with, with a mix of weekly normal assignments, a discussion, and a quiz. My only complaint is that later in the term, our discussion's due dates/requirements for participation kept changing without an announcement from the professor.
This professor is the worse when it comes to grading. The syllabus is not clear and a lot of confusion when it comes to the MindTap assignments and the canvas ones. She takes FOREVER to grade assignments and switches up dates. DO NOT recommend!
Honestly, the class was fine as its fully online and so there is so much input the teacher can give. But, she did include lots of videos and recordings to guide us through the week's work which was extremely helpful. It was a pretty easy and straightforward. Bonus, she also responds to Canvas messages and emails within 24 hours (48 hours max) !
Professor Sibayan's class has a lot of work, but it's manageable if you stay on top of things. The projects can be challenging, but her demos are super helpful. Unstuck study was a game-changer for me - made studying much easier. Overall, a solid class if you put in the effort.
Impossible to reach outside of class. Does she even know what an email is?????
The course is overall easy if you put in the effort you'll get and easy A+ but the professor honestly needs to do more she takes her time to reply back and takes time to grade the graded assingment.
This course has strict discussion requirements. It's not a work at your own pace, which makes it difficult for those who also juggle jobs and family life. She also chooses which messages to respond to, and you barely hear from her other than about following her rules. Don't expect her to help, she will just refer you back to her lecture videos.
Worst professor i have ever had. Very rude and disrespectful emails when you can reach her (which is not often), no professionalism or mutual respect. Don't bother trying to ask any questions you will be mocked in the canvas announcements. Assignments are lacking, full of discussions that are irrelevant to programing. Stay away.
One of the biggest positive impacts on my experience in this class was how responsive and supportive my professor was. She always answered my questions quickly and clearly, which made it much easier to stay on track with the material. Her organization also stood out.
Does not answer any emails.
I took her online AI Thinking Class at NWFSC, very weird pacing with a huge workload at the beginning of the semester, gives assignments that don't completely relate to the topic, adds more work last minute. She gives out a lot of work yet still takes a long time to grade and give feedback. Syllabus doesn't outline all the work thats in the course.
