Do you follow me, or no?!! - words made famous by Ki Bong Nam
No Comments
"let us concider..." Ugh and if he bangs on that damn chalk board one more time I am gonna freak! It would also help if he could speak english!
Not a bad guy just hard to understand. He is a pretty easy grader so if you can try to follow along and teach some of the material to yourself from the book you should be alright. "let me tell you something, it is good for you..." (Nam)
His class was too much fun. DO you follow me??? Over and over with the same saying. It was just great
A little hard to understand at first, but a very good teacher. You have to be willing to do some work yourself, but if you have any questions he is more than willing to go out of his way to help you.
Really easy grader...If you are looking for an easy A, take him. "I want everybody to pass this coarse(Nam)." He is hard to understand at first because he is asian, but after a week or two, it becomes second tongue, and easy to understand! Fun
I took Math 141 w/ him,but 143 was harder, and w/ his thick accent, you might find yourself frustrated a lot. He's not very clear on some of the harder stuff,& does stuff differently than the book does (which I used alot when he didn't help)he'll tell you to read the book 7-8 times...lol
took him for math 143, hard to understand at first, but very easy grader, likes to knock on the board a lot and ask if you understand it or if you can see it....take him...
hard to understand but he grades very easily, tests and quizzes are really easy, easily got a 98% in his class. Come to class and just laugh, take him over all the other professors, you'll be happy that you did!!
Easiest math class i have ever taken, easier than hs math. honestly, if you memorize the 5 formulas that are on the test, you can get just about 100% on everything. Quizzes are a joke, esp. the take home ones. Show up and you'll get an A
Hard to understand. Does not answer questions well. Exams follow take home quizzes, so that helped.
cant really understand him, but hes a real sweet guy. he goes over things over n over , so idk if u like that, but i did. his most popular phrases are: "u guys killin me" "u see?" "this guy!"...lol u will understand once u take him =)
very ez, takes attendance tho. very funny also...really helps you understande middleschool math...
Funny guy... never could understand him tho... never did the homework and never really studied but still got a B in his class... also he passes around an attendance sheet, so make friends in the class to sign you in... SEEING IS BELIEVEING...NO? just go to class you'll get it
EASY CLASS
GREAT, math teacher, he does take some getting used to due to his accent but hes not very hard to understand. He is very helpful and you can tell he really cares about teaching the material, not to mention he says the most hilarious things, that you can't help but grin. "You guys kill me, ah"....
"....this guy" in whispering voice. Nam's favorite words. Real hard to understand especially in a hard to understand class (abstract algebra). Very willing to help whenever "dats fine". He would probably be a cake walk for a lower level math course. Very smart.
Personally, I love this guy, even if I didn't get the grade I wanted. I found his accent delightful - though hard at first. And his phrases never ceased to make me laugh. His ability to teach math was pretty good and no homework collection - though the tests are difficult without doing it. Overall, he was a good guy.
he is the funniest teacher (you guys kill me) he is incromprehensible but i enjoyed his class
You really need to study for his class, because he expects you to already be somewhat familiar with a concept before he teaches it. If you're hearing it for the first time from him, you're not going to get it. He confuses himself often. That said, he's always willing to help, very funny and kind. Collects homework and takes attendance.
This professor is horrible. Do not take him! His accent is horrible, he is constantly messing up the examples on the board, he loves story problems so if you do not like story problems then you will really not like him, and he is just a bad teacher. I do not reccommend him if you are not good at math.
Ki Bong knows exactly what he is talking about, for me it is impossible not to get an A on a test. I will not answer questions and he will only take off .4 points. Whats to argue, he always makes jokes and shows examples on the board and explains them with the occasional mess up Overall i took him for 2 semesters. did great.
I think this teacher is adorable. he has a strong korean accent but after the first few days you'll be used to it. his phrases are funny (you kill me, guys) and he does his best to help you with problems. he does mess up on the board, but overall i like him. if you dont understand his explanation, look in the book and you'll be fine.
Dude is the man. His accent is little hard at first but i got used to it. Homework is based on completion and the majority of the quizzes and tests are TAKE HOME!
He is very nice and very easy. He is a little hard to understand but you will get used to it. The tests are take home and are also very easy. If you can get passed the language barrier you are set.
The first week or two you wonder if you can handle his accent, but after that you are fine. I thought about dropping the class the first week, but i'm glad i didnt! i ended up loving his accent. he is hilarious. he is direct with his tests and homework to what he teachs. i never understood calculus before i took him!!
I love this professor. Coooool Korean!!!
I loved Ki-Bong Nam he was the easiest professor I had my first semester! He reviews what you covered the day before at the beginning of class if you miss some notes. His accent is strong but you can understand everything he says. He gives you take home quizzes and test along with ones you take in class. If you take notes its an easy A!
Don't be discouraged by his accent - you'll get used to it quickly. He is otherwise a fantastic professor.
Great teacher. At first I was worried about his accent but after awhile you get used to it and even start to like it. He has really funny sayings that are almost famous among his students. Another thing I like is that he lets you use a graphing calculator on tests. Take Ki-Bong as much as possible
He is soo funny! Take Ki-Bong, and don't be discouraged by his accent. He does everything right out of the book so if you don't understand, just look at the book. Sign in for attendance, but will let a few misses slide.
At first i thought the semester was going to be a nightmare with his accent, however gradually became use to it and it did not affect me at all. Super funny, laid back guy. Everything comes right out of the book, so if you do not understand something, just refer back via textbook. Definitely would recommend him.
His catch phrases are hilarious and keep you interested. "If you know one problem, you know them all!" "Study several times, and then you can know!" "Now for this guy case..." "Ask questions, nobody hurt you." There are group quizzes at the end of each class which he uses for attendance and to see how well the class understood the lecture that day
At first I thought his accent would affect my ability to learn, but he writes everything on the board, which is extremely helpful. He is very funny and interested in his students. Homework is required, but i don't think he grades it. Gives a take home quiz almost identical to quiz he gives in class.
His accent is very difficult to understand. He writes one thing on the board and says another then when we ask him about it his explanation makes no sense. He is a nice guy he is just not a good professor.
Accent was a bit much at first but afar a few weeks its like its not there at all! As long as you go everyday and take notes you should be fine for the test and quizzes, which most are take home! Pretty easy class and he's always willing to help
Hilarious. I highly recommend Ki-Bong Nam he is one of the funniest professors ever. You can record certain things that he says often throughout the year. My personal favorite, "you are in college not in high school." He's hilarious! Also incredibly easy, I just did the homework for completion points and thats it!
his accent is way to much. he can barly understand him. he wasn't that helpful when asked questions. his phrases that he says are funny but to much. dropped his class as soon as i could. take him if u can take a strong accent and can review and teach yourself after he teaches you.
This teacher is very funny and kind. His teaching method is going through all of the examples from the book and explaining them on the board. His quizzes and exams all flow from each other and he is a very easy grader! If I had to take this class again id take it with him every time!
Ki-Bong is the man. Straight up. He can't speak a lick of English except for a distinct AHMMMM or AHHHH every now and then. Don't bother trying to understand what he writes on the board either its chicken scratch for days. He recognizes effort and knows deep down that nobody knows what he is talking about anyhow...and that's what's most humorous.
this guy is just great go to the class and you will be fine
I have Professor Ki-Bong Nam for Math-143. So far in the semester he has been one of the most kind and caring professors I have ever had. I would recommend him to anyone. He has an accent but he is still easy to understand. He cares about his students and that is clear.
I took Ki-Bong Nam for two different classes. It's hard to understand him at times (most of the time). However if you come to class most of the time(even here and there), do the homework(at least the majority), and take the test (which most are take home test anyway minus a few in class but always based off the take home one) its the easiest A!
Looking for a good teacher and an A plus? Looking to learn and understand this material? Take this class you will not regret it with this professor. Received an A and taken 143 currently with only Ki Bong Nam
Ki-Bong made me not hate math anymore. I struggled with any math class I took in college except Ki-Bongs, he will always make sure you understand the material and does alot of examples in class that are relative to all the exams. If you are not good at math but still put in good effort there isn't another professor I would recommend.
Ki Bong is an overall great guy and professor. His accent is hard at first, but the 2nd week you will understand him perfectly. He tries very hard to make sure everyone in the room understands what is being taught and does example problems most of the class. Grades tests pretty easily as long as you do the work for the problem. He is also funny
Ki-Bong Nam is a GREAT professor! At first, you're going to want to switch out of his class. But DON'T! He is such a nice guy who really cares about the success of his students. He is funny, and sometimes hard to understand, but SUCH an easy grader. If you get an entire answer wrong, he takes .2 points off. I got a solid A. HIGHLY recommend Ki-Bong
Ki-Bong Nam is a GREAT professor. At first, you're going to want to switch out of his class, but DON'T. Right away he is hard to understand, but it'll get easier. He is nice, helpful, funny, and SUCH an easy grader. If you get an entire answer wrong, he will take .2 points off. I finished with a solid A. I HIGHLY recommend him as a professor.
Easy Grader!
Super easy grader but impossible to understand
He is the best math teacher I have ever taken. It is hard to understand him, but if you listen and look in the book you will do fine. He sends out notes as well. You always take a take home quiz and then a in class quiz. Theres a take home exam as well. Best part about him is he grades easy. Take him do not worry about if you cannot understand him
Best math teacher I have ever had. I HIGHLY recommend him. At first you might not be able to understand him but after a few weeks you get used to it and its not a problem. Many people switch out of his class but they are making a mistake. He grades super easy, and the review material is exactly like the assessments getting me a 100% on every test.
When you first hear Ki-Bong, you will think you should drop the class an get another professor. DO NOT DO THAT. Although I still can't comprehend EVERYTHING he says, it gets much easier to understand him. All the problems are straight from the textbook, so if you don't understand, it's right there for you to read. Very easy grader, and very caring.
When you are thinking about dropping the class, DON'T. He will go over practices problems all class, some of which will be just like the quizzes/tests. There are both take home and in class quizzes/tests. Graded on: 3 Exams (2 IC, 1 TH) 200 pt. each , 5 Quizzes (3 TH, 2 IC) 60 pt. each, Homework (100 pt.), Attendance (100 pt.), Final Exam (400 pt.)
I'm terrible at math and the main point in this class is to fill out all answers with some work. Do this and you will get an 80% on every quiz/test. Take two quizzes then a test for 3 units. The quizzes are basically the same and also the same thing on the test so very easy. If you get any less than a B- in this class it just shows you don't care.
Ki-Bong is a very easy professor. He has a thick accent so he's hard to understand for the first week or so, then it gets better. Teaches directly from the book. You take 2 take home quizzes and 1 take home test. There are 3 quizzes and 2 tests in class. They are all the same thing. Ki-Bong very easy, easiest A in math i've ever had.
Professor Nam is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He cares so much about the success of his students. If you attend class, and actually pay attention, you will do well. He is always willing to help. There is homework for every class session, but it really does help you in the long run.
Well I almost crapped myself on the first day when I just entered his calculus class and realized good ol' Ki-Bong does not speak any English. I almost dropped his class until someone told me he has one of the highest ratings here so thank god I stayed. Some times his lectures make no sense until you look on youtube. The guy's hilarious and nice.
If you pay attention, you'll pretty much understand everything. His accent takes a while to get used to and you'll hear a lot of the same phrases including "are you witha me?" and "make sense to you?"
Prof. Nam is a little difficult to understand in lectures sometimes, but he is a very easy grader and a nice guy. His goal isn't to fail people. Put some effort into the take home quizzes and understanding the homework, and you're good for at B even if you're bad at math.
Dr. Nam is very nice, helpful, and is an easy grader, but he's very difficult to understand and doesn't use CANVAS (said he didn't know how to set it up). He gets around using CANVAS by sending e-mails of the notes/exams/quizzes. 3 exams (1 take-home) and 4 quizzes (2 take-home). I feel like I haven't learned anything, but I would take him again.
Ki-Bong is a cool guy but his teaching style is not great. He teaches off problems he made and solved and then projects them on to the screen. Doesn't really go in depth about how he solves the problems. Sometimes writes on the board but it is all over the place and kind of hard to follow. He grades easily and has take home quizzes and tests.
did not enjoy this class and found it hard to learn
Ki-Bong is a very easy Professor. he is a very easy grader and a nice guy. His goal isn't to fail people. Put some effort into the take-home quizzes and understanding the homework, he wants the success of the students.
Ki-Bong is an extremely good professor and if you need to take Calculus for your major I recommend him. Lots of homework but it's mostly extra credit, he can be difficult to understand, just ask him questions during class or outside of class and he will answer them. I recommend showing up as the material can get hard and there's extra credit for it
Ki-Bong teaches straight from the textbook and is an easy grader. For the first few weeks of class, it's hard to understand his teaching but as the course progresses it gets easier. As long as you fill out every problem on each test you'll be fine. He just wants to see an attempt. If you do this you'll do well in this course.
Super thick accent and confusing lectures. However, very willing to help and a super easy grader. If you're looking for an easy A and laid back class, he's your guy.
Don't worry about his accent, you get used to it after a week or so. He teaches the exact same problems that are on the tests. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Very easy A. Just come to class and do the problems he gives you (which isn't much).
Ki-Bong has a very thick accent so he may be hard to understand but he tries to make sure that his students are comprehending the material that he is teaching. If you reach out to him, he does his best to help answer the questions that you're asking and is an incredibly easy grader.
He is super nice and wholesome. His class is generally easy. He doesn't usually give your homework and tests back, so it's hard to know how you are doing. However, it is very easy to pass, even if it's hard to track your grade.
Professor Ki-Bong Nam is very hard to understand. His writing is very sloppy and hard to read. He lectures for the whole class and does not randomly call on people. He puts all the notes on canvas so most people end up teaching themselves the material.
I love math, typically math professors are some of my favorite. But this guy's mandatory, dense, un-personable, and nonmemorable lectures make me want to drill a hole in my head. The lecture is him reading off his own handwritten notes on a projector then him asking in a thick accent: 'good?' this man's English vocabulary is shockingly low.
Prof Nam is a good person. He's very caring, and he tries. However, his lecture style makes it nearly impossible to learn in class (he takes attendance). He reads his notes off of the screen, and asks if "it makes sense to you?" This semester I've taught myself using the textbook and Khan Academy. The one perk is that he is a very generous grader.
While Professor Ki Bong Nam is hard to understand sometimes with his heavy accent he is a super nice prof and I would take him again if I had to. Professor Nam grades his quizzes and tests on a curve so as long as you try you will pass.
If wanna take Linear Algebra, I'd definitely choose Ki bong if you only care about the grade. The guy is one of the easiest graders on campus. I did pretty bad in one of the exams and still ended up with an A-. The downside is that despite his easy grading it is difficult to understand his lectures, so you will have to learn on your own a bit.
A very nice person. It was hard to understand him in class, especially with his thick accent and because there's so much content to cover, but he was very helpful when you met him at his office. He's very understanding with grades so don't sweat the hard exams and quizzes, but don't just give up either. Attendance is priority #1.
Terrible teacher. Easiest grader ever though. Youll pass, but with 0 knowledge
He's a good guy, just not a great professor. His accent is something you'll get used to, and he generally doesn't answer your questions correctly. However, an incredibly easy grader and willing to help. If you can teach yourself some pretty simple calculus concepts you'll easily pass with an A.
You just need to be a little self-sufficient when you don't understand and look it up yourself. As long as you go to class you're likely to catch on to the concepts. The beginning is scary then it gets better, don't drop he's one of the best teachers for 143. Only 2 in-person tests other than the final and he's a very easy grader, don't worry.
If you get the opportunity, take KI-Bong online for math classes. You will print out the exams and then submit them that way without having to use the lockdown browser so It is very easy. If you take him online, you are guaranteed to pass.
I cannot understand this guy at all. I feel horrible for it, but I can't. The only way I'm learning anything is with the book. Thankfully, he follows it to a T. He's very organized, gives all notes ahead of time. HW isn't due till end of semester. Tests aren't bad. But you have to study the book to learn anything, which takes too much time. Dislike
Nam is a very nice guy at heart. He can be hard to understand at times, but it is clear that he cares about you passing the class. He grades VERY generously. Take-home quizzes are pretty much automatic A's. The downside? You have to review heavily outside of class to retain concepts. This is not the worst prof to teach the course, though.
Difficult to understand but probably the most generous grader on campus. Easy to pass
You will definitely be teaching yourself all of the material and his lectures are insanely hard to understand and to follow along to. The nicest thing is how easy of a grader he is and you're guaranteed to get a good grade.
Pretty easy grader, you just wont understand him
KB is the best professor at Whitewater! Listen to everything he says, follow all his advice, and you will do fine. He is easy to reach outside of class and good at explaining math. He is also an easy grader, so don't stress over tests, but get help if you need it because he's available.
Prof. Ki Bong Nam is seriously the greatest professor here at Whitewater. You see, his lectures inspired me to consider changing my major from gender studies to Finance. I wasn't paying attention to his lecture because of clash of clans, stupid game, and he yelled "look at me!" and I feel inspired to look at him and pay attention. Must take prof.(;
Ki-Bong is an amazing human being. Extremely difficult to understand and I swear he goes into a different language sometimes while talking. He cares about you and will pretty much give you a B and higher on a test regardless of how you did. The only thing is you won't learn anything in his class. But if you want an easy A, take him.
Nicest teacher there is and easiest grader
Ki-Bong is a respectful & funny guy who really wants to see students succeed & is very accessible outside of class. However, the class is fast-paced, & it can be difficult to understand him at first due to his accent. Homework is due by the end of semester, and half of the tests are take-home. He is understanding and helpful, overall recommend.
If you have the option to take Ki-Bong I 100% recommend him over a ton of other professors. Sometimes you have to teach yourself cause it can be unclear of how he got to certain steps. He is though one of the most lenient and understanding professors at Whitewater though.
I would 100% recommend him if you have the option. Super nice and an easy grader and wants you to do good in the class. You don't have to show up for every class but will fall behind and get confused on the material. He can be hard to understand but you get used to it after a couple of classes.
Ki Bong is a great professor. At the beginning of the semester, he gives the class his phone number so you can contact him with any questions. He gives great notes and provides extra material in canvas. The subject is a bit difficult but if you make sure you understand the material, you'll get an A.
Ki-Pong is an amazing teacher, the material is hard, but he does a good job with answering questions in class and is always available for office hours. He is a very pleasant teacher to be around and really cares about what he is teaching, always reminding us that we are geniuses, and that we are smarter than computers. Would take his class again.
Ki-Bong is an incredibly hard teacher to understand and moves very fast with the content. He understands the material he is presenting, but it is tough to understand the content. His class is incredibly easy otherwise as homework is only required by the final. Take home tests, hardly any work otherwise. If looking for an easy A Ki-Bong grades light
Ki-Bong was a very good and understanding professor, just difficult to understand. You'll end up teaching yourself some of the content. Homework is due by the final. There are a few take home quizzes, a few in class quizzes, two exams, and a final exam. Attendance is mandatory and taken every class.
Can't understand him at all but the math is easy enough to follow and he is a great guy. Super nice and easygoing he is a generous grader and provides extra credit as well definitely take him. You might not understand his words but numbers are a universal language.
Professor Nam is difficult to understand, which was my biggest issue with the class. I spent more time in tutoring than in class. He would also forget what we went over in one class and go over it again the next class, which is a waste of time when attendance was graded. However, he is an easy grader and is willing to help if you have questions.
Class is very easy. You don't even have to study and you will get a B in the class. A couple take home tests. He is very hard to understand so you wont learn anything.
I would recommend him for MATH143. He is often difficult to understand, as others said. However, there are only a few grades: 2 exams, 2 quizzes, and 3 homework assignments. Matrixes are the primary thing you need to study, but otherwise fairly easy course material. Plus Ki-Bong is very nice and will answer any questions you may have after class.
He is the goat. Cant understand a single thing he says so youll have to learn everything on your own. He is hilarious if you can pick up on his humor. Great guy. Very sweet.
Literally the best Math teacher of all time. Take him.
Ki-Bong is a caring professor who makes an effort to help students succeed, even if the material can be challenging. Using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the class notes really helps. Overall, an easy A if you put in the work.
Ki-Bong is a legend. The best guy you'll meet, I didn't understand a word he said except, "True in Chicago, not Whitewater." Also, "Review notes twice and you understand." I did in fact not understand his notes they, are chicken scratch. TBH you won't learn anything, but if you're looking teacher with a thick accent the nammster is your guy.
He is a good professor but very hard to understand with his accent. He doesn't use Canvas for grading so in order to know your grade, you have to email/text him. He was really good at responding at first but also never responded to a couple of emails. I wouldn't take him again just because I feel as though I am teaching myself.
if you are not good at math and hate it, then you need to take this professor. you have many take home quizzes, tests and exams. you turn in all of your homework at the end of the semester. very easy to do well and he basically gives everyone an A, a B if you do terrible but at least put in the effort
This is the last math course I ever had to take and was mentally checked out. I walked in the first day of class and understood nothing he said. Then I read the syllabus and most of the tests and quizzes were take home and he is the worlds easiest grader. His class is pretty entertaining and I thought it was the easiest math course ive taken 10/10
Was mainly based on notes from lectures and extremely fast paced, but overall, very worth it since grading was super easy and he was very nice. While he was difficult to understand, his notes can be accessed outside of class and the problems are explained in strictly math without any extra additives.
Nam is great. Like others have said he can be hard to understand but he is truly very understanding and willing to help. He grades super easily, and you will have a lot of take-home quizzes and exams. This makes it so easy to get a good grade. He is overall a super kind person as well. Highly recommend.
Love him. Incredibly hard to understand lectures. But most of them were only around 45 mins. But his grading was so easy. You don't even need to show up for lectures. He posts his lesson notes online if you like to learn that way. Gives you his number if you have any questions outside of class which was super helpful as he responds right away.
Accent is strong and a bit hard to understand but the notes are good. Tests are super easy, some are take home. Homework is due at the final and super easy. Nice guy.
Great professor! Very accessible, easy grader, really wants to see students succeed! You will do fine in his class!
Take Ki Bong! He truly cares so much about his students. I am NOT good at math, and the content is very hard. Ki Bong puts effort into his lectures and is accessible for any questions at all hours of the day. He is a very compassionate grader. If you show your work and at least try to understand it, you'll get an A.
Ki-Bong is such a nice guy! I am not very good at math but he made this class pretty easy. He is hard to understand during lectures so you may have to teach yourself a lot of things but he's very accessible outside of class. Many take-home quizzes and accepts homework by the end of the semester.
He's very flexible and willing to help you understand. He responds to texts quickly regarding questions. He really wants his students to learn and improve their math abilities. The only two things I didn't like were how he doesn't put any grades in until the very last week of the semester, and all of the homework is not due till that time as well.
Ki-Bong Nam is who I want to be when I grow up. He overall cares about you and wants you to pass the class. He has to teach the lectures that he does by University requirements, but he makes it fun. He does have a strong ancient, but will slow down for you when asked. Overall, he believes your are a genius and wants you to succeed.
Don't take him. He has a very thick accent and doesn't speak very good english. He just doesn't teach well. Does not give good feedback. Does not put ANYTHING in canvas until finals are over. I had to teach myself this class. I don't recommend trying to teach yourself trig. His only redeeming qualities are notes for the final and super easy grading
Extremely easy grader, he is a really nice person and knows what he is teaching. The lectures are quite boring especially if math comes easy to you, and he has a very thick accent. I highly recommend taking his course if you just want a good grade, and honestly most of the math isn't too difficult or complex(except for matrix theory)
He sucks at writing exams. His final was the worst test I have ever taken, he took every single question everyone struggled with and put it on the final, it took the full allotted time period, and I think a lot of people struggled extremely with this class… do not take if you can avoid it!
Great teacher show up and try and you'll do fine
