When he teaches math 112 he is acually teachng math 225!!
he would rather have u fail than succseed. he favores students. his tests were so hard that one time he gave it to us as a take home and we had 2 hours to finish 5 problems. imagine how hard the test was. he also teaches at ucla.
He is a very motivational professor. I can't believe anybody will complain about him. Because of his teaching I liked math so much that I have decided to major in math. He is my role model.
By far the best professor I ever had in community college. His tests are moderately hard but he prepares you conceptually which helps you a lot in future .I wish there were more professor like him .
Don't take this class if you're looking to get an easy A. You have to work very hard for it. His lectures are somewhat clear, and only helps you understand the concepts. It'so only when you go home and study a lot that you are prepared for his tests.
He favores female armenian students. He thinks that he is teaching a High School class. Be on time for class otherwise, he did not let you get in.
when i was in his class, i dozed off and wondered if i was in an anthropology class. he is good with numbers, but i think most of the students were falling asleep, only the one's passing thought the teacher was good. i only remember going to sleepl.
Taking his class during summer was a good idea since it helped me realize what aspects I was weak in. Halfway into the semester I dropped the class and audited a trig class instead since his class made me realize i needed work in that. Now Im taking calc again and doing great.
He favors students especially girls. God knows why he hasn't been sued.I am a "A" student however I got all D and C on his class I dropped and took with somebody else I got an A, just because he didn't like me. DO NOT TAKE "ANY" class with him, unless you are willing to…:)
he is the most difficult teacher in calculus but he explains well and expects u to learn the material, tests are difficult but if ur continuing in math then he will be good to take
very good professor I had him several years ago for three sem. excellent teacher, his test are moderately hard. I worked hard but got A in all three classes I will recommend to take him
He knows the subject well. He has trouble explaining himself, he expects a lot from his students. There are times when he rushes through the material, and sometimes even hard to understand him.
He is very strict with his students, teaches well, but goes too fast. I never had a problem as a matter of fact he was always sweet to me. I don't think he means any harm or anything bad being sweet. He is one of the best Math professors at LACC. Thank You Kaviani.
He is also a PHD professor at USC. It's not everyday that a community college student gets an opportunity to learn from someone like him. He understands the subject so well and explains the nuances so intrinsically, that you feel as if you are learning new language... and you ARE! I LOVE HIM!
Genious, briliant, magnificant. I'm honored to be in his class, he is a USC prof and i feel great that I'm learning material the way USC students do.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He is arrogant spends half the semester bragging that he teaches at USC. Favors middle eastern girls. He rushes through the material showing us that the subject matter is so easy for him but that doest help us. Horrible.
Excellent professor. Very knowledgable and cares for his student learning. His style of teaching make you prepared for transferring to top university. I took Calculus 1 & 2 with him and he made me so ready that I easily got A in Calc-3 & Differential equations. Thank you professor Kaviani
His personality is good, but too much work and test is so hard
very good teacher. down to earth and cares about his students that answers q's that that students have. great teacher
I hated this class. Kaviani zooms through the material. He goes too fast, and his explanations are unclear. His test are impossible! Only 10 -12 questions but the downside to that is--you miss one and a whole grade drops.
This guy is the worst intructor in the whole math department in LACC. Never ever take him because all you will do is waste your time. He thinks he is the master of the Universe and he think that he is the man when he brags of teaching in USC. He will give you a fail no matter how hard you try...
great teacher!
Two words: He SuckS! He's hard...especially on the tests, he's strict, and Mean. I got an answer wrong on the test...and He didnt say my name but he picked on me in front of the whole class and made fun of me. He is rude in general not just because of that. He does think that he is all that. But he's nothing but a bag of chips.
he thinks that every1 who takes calculus courses are math/ enginn majors which is not always the case. his extra credits r kindda time- consuming...orelse he teaches well and is helpful 2 students in clearing off their doubts.!

beware!! but very much worth the try.. teaches well, and challenges you too.. ;P
Excellent teacher, tough but fair. He expects you to participate in your learning and do the homework, study, etc -- and why shouldn't he!!! You also know that if you pass Kaviani's classes, you WILL be ready for the next math class up the ladder.
Pretty easy and fair but sometimes not fair on grading.. gives you a lot of extra credit though and try to boose your grade up alright...good luck in his classes....
he's aiight...
ughhh....lets just say that about half of the people in the class either dropped it or transfered. He goes WAY to fast. I'm now taking it over..thanx to him! Don't take him, you'll most likely regret it!
He is an excellent teacher. Gives very clear explantions, always ready to answer questions and to help. Before test he gives reviws, which completely cover the material he is going to give on the test. Yes, he expects you to work, and wants you to get knowledge after going in his class. So, if you are interested in learning math, take him.
His tests are murderously difficult... He gives problems like having to differentiate a function using the chain rule 7 times in a row... Things like that; he gives the harder type of problems on his tests. But he does give very precise reviews, lots of extra credit and is a very bright guy, a good teacher, and great for a serious student.
First of all, I am not a math person at all. That stated, Kaviani is a very fair teacher. Yes, his tests are very difficult but as long as you're willing to put in the study time and show him that you care, you'll do fine. I got an A, but it was definately a lot of work. I thought Kaviani was great and extremely talented.

very fast pace during winter. Hard test got to read book. he's best for math majors. he teaches at your level but it's up to you!
Dr. Kaviani proceeds through the course at dangerously excessive speeds. Moreover, he appears relatively unconcerned with the students ability to keep up. Quite often, he actually skips over several of the algebraic steps in his demonstrations, leaving the student confused and bewildered. Kaviani is profoundly difficult; find another professor.
He gives a good lecture, but the tests are so hard.
He is a good professor I got a B just do the work and you will be fine. The tests are hard but not impossible to pass.
Don't take this guy (period). He rushes through the material furiously. YOU WILL NOT LEARN CALCULUS!!
He is one of the best math teachers at LACC...His explanation is very clear and easy to understand...He covers everything in a very clear way...after him you will remember math for a very long time...A very fair grader... He gives you a chance to challenge yourself...work hard and you will definitely succeed in his class....The best math teacher.

If you want to learn, people should take his classes. He gives great notes. He goes over the tests the day before, so you know exactly what is on the test. So if you fail the tests, it's because you did not make the effort to study.
Gives great explanations and great notes, but i took him for the summer and it was very fast, but i tried to stick to it.But when it came to the test that's were the problem came.He teaches good, But his TEST are too HARD!!! The homework is suppose to be practice, but nothing of the homework is on the test,so i dropped.if you like a challenge take him
HE IS NOT THE BEST PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD. AND IF YOU SAY THAT HE TEACHES AT USC, WHY DOES HE TEACH AT LACC. IT'S TRUE THAT HE GOES OVER THE TESTS THE DAY BEFORE, BUT HIS TESTS ARE BITTER AND GRADES VERY UNFAIRLY. HE GRADES YOU DOWN ON EVERY LITTLE THING.TAKE HIS CLASS IF U HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO.
Hard but fair. First test, the hardest, he checks who's worthy. After that, it gets a bit easier.. not to much though. Interesting and challenging instructor.
He is an excellent professor. If you are looking for an easy one to get easy grade, don't take him. But if you are looking for someone who can really teach you and become success in what you learn especially math or engineering major, should take him. If you know that you are dump should never take him. He is absolutely the best math teacher.
I have read all the comments before I write my own. I think there are two sides of oppinion here. One is the lazy ones who didn't do well and tried to blame on the teacher which they will never get farther in life. The other one is who work hard get deserve the good grade. Which one do you want to be, decide for yourself. I think he is the best!!
THIS GUY HAS VERY QUESTIONABLE MANNERS AND METHODS, DON'T TRUST. HIS TEACHING AND GRADING ARE BITTER, AND HE CARES LITTLE ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. WORST TEACHER EVER!!!
Granted, he is very challenging. But, the truth is that you actually learn a lot. If you want an easy A do not take him. However, if you are a math major and want a true challenge go for it. I agree with some of the previous comments if you are lazy you will get a bad grade, but overall he is an EXCELLENT professor. I learned A LOT!
good professor. Many tests and many homeworks. he said that attendance was mandatory, but i always used to leave the class many minutes before it actually ended.got an "A"
I've been with him for about only a week(summer session), he compresses the material heavily. One chapter in one week, that may be acceptable in very lower division courses- but in a dense course like Calculus it certainly isn't. He has a decent teaching style, garbled Persian accent. Calculus is like a language, it needs time to be absorbed.
His tests are impossible. He teaches at a completely different standard, this isn't USC!! Don't take Calculus 1 or above during the summer session, you will fail miserably. There is not enough time to absorb the material, and the tests bombards you unexpectaedly, everyone is going to drop- I know it.
if you know calculus 2 already then u can take his class, otherwise you wont understand him. he goes as fast as a rocket and the tests dont look like anything u did in class or for hw... it is rediculously hard... i got A's in all of my math classes, and never got lower than B's on my tests, but his test i completely failed and dropped the class...
One of the best professors!
If math is at all difficult for you then he is not the teacher for you. He goes very fast and even with a lot of tutoring I could not master his class and had to drop. Do not take if math is a challenge for you. He teaches to those who already have a math background.
Not really a good teacher. Talks to the girls during quizzes and very impatient. Can't say he's friendly. He is good at math, I guess.
He is my favorite teacher. I like his way, very easy to catch. I'm still in his Calculus 1. After my first test, he says: "someone beats you." I think he wants to encourage me, so I will try to be more careful the next time.
The teacher HEAVILY compresses material sometimes leaving out key ideas. The section moves REALLY fast (through no fault of the professor)as there is a lot of stuff to cover.Answers questions but assumes you know the math jargon (which leaves some students dazed).Tests are no surprise as you review them. You MUST rely heavily on the book for success.
I had a very hard time getting an A in the class. Statistics was very difficult and the amount of work is overwhelming. He's a good professor but you must rely on the book to keep up because he lectures at a quick pace.
If you're good at math, take him. He will challenge you. He goes really fast, expects you to remember prior math, and writes diagonally. Most people dropped the class. But he knows math extremely well and is good at answering questions. The final is brutal, but if you're willing to work hard it is worth it in the end.
Prof. Kaviani is one a valuable instructors in LACC, a teacher who gives a reach knowledge to all students, and cares to prepare them for a next math class. He makes math problems much available to understand, and uses the whole class time for intending students to a new coming chapter before you leave the class. He was fair enough amount...
...amount of for an eight week class. He keeps everyone engaged (yes)? Thank you Doct. Kaviani. I learned to listen (lol) and be careful with signs and numbers. It was well worth the challenge you provided me and the rest of the class. I?m sure; I?ll be a better student because of you...Armine
not good too much work and goes way too fast
Uses old tests, including typos. When called on the typos, gets very defensive and punishes the class for noting his mistake. Includes special cases on tests that we didn't cover in class; the material is challenging enough without trying to trick us.
Great professor. People say Kaviani is hard or gives preferrence to some. Yes, he is hard and he gives preferrence to the students that actually study and show interest in the class. It was a challenging class, but He Makes You Learn. If you are like me and enjoy challenge in math, definitelly recommended. Not for chickens:) who want to get an easy A, skip him .
Good professor. Too much homework but grades fairly. Gives credit for homework. Follow his strict rules and you'll really learn. Tests are not too easy and not too hard. Attendance is mandatory. If you miss class, that's your grade if you miss a lot of his classes. Overall good teacher! Thanks professor Kaviani!!
Good professor, a little hard to understand. Expects you to solve math problems the way he does & not the way that are solved in the book. Gives credit for hw. If you're looking for an easy prof. look elsewhere because he isn't. Doesn't curve. Although I passed his class, it was a challenge I enjoyed his class. Overall, strict but good prof. Thanks
Hard teacher... I was in tutoring everyday and I still got a C. he goes faster then normal. You can't finish writing down the problem before he's asking for answeres and solving it. I think I would of enjoyed learning stats if I took a different teacher. There is a really good one that teaches at ELAC that teaches on youtube. Used his vids for help
yes, he is hard, he expect a lot but we're all adults so what! if you work hard, study hard, and go to his lectures, he'll clear anything. i do agree that he does go too fast in his lectures, but you can always ask him to slow down and explain. he does stop to look around the room for any questions. tests are not easy but if you study you'll be fi
Not an easy A. Teacher's teaching method is ok. I recommend his class is you really want to learn. But if you want an easy A, consider other teachers. Average teacher
I think he has a lot to offer.
I recommend
His class is a challenge. Not an easy A, average grader.
Kaviani does a lot of the math problems in his head and when you ask him to explain what he has done he makes you feel as if you are stupid for asking. Kaviani also doesn't grade the tests himself therefore sometimes will skip problems or not give credit for problems done right, something that can be a problem unless you havve another person check.
This instructor is straightforward. Almost everything he writes on the board will be on the exams. You will need the textbook only for your homeworks.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! His class is impossibly hard. He doesn't explain things well and he will flat out lie to you about what is going to be on a test. 1/3 of the Final was material he told us we wouldn't need to study.
The worst prof in my life. Makes lots of mistakes on board and in grading tests, won't help u in his office hours, lied to me 3 times,a big arse,
Trust me! Prof. Kaviani is one of the best professors you will ever have a chance to meet in you school life. He truly cares about you success and prepares you for a 4 year school better than anybody! Life changing experience. I would strongly suggest for math and engineering majors!
The best math teacher/hardest I have had my entire life. Explains everything. Test is impossibly hard but he curves the grade, and my algebra, cal 1, trig, and cal 2 improve tremendously! For math and science major, he is a must! Who cares about grades if you can learn, make your money and energy is worth it by challenging yourself!
He is a hard fair teacher. He is always willing to help you but you have to give your best, he is an awesome teacher and you have to be prepare he will trick you on the tests but its for your own good!
HE'S A GREAT TEACHER. LIKES TO SEE YOUR WORK ON TESTS AND HOMEWORK. OLD FASHIONED DOES NOT USE SCANTRONS FOR TESTING WHICH I BELIEVE IS BENEFICIAL BECAUSE HE GETS TO SEE HOW THE CLASS RESPONDS TO HIS WAY OF TEACHING. HIS CLASS USUALLY HAS VERY HIGH GRADES OR LOW GRADES. HIGH GRADES REFLECT THE NON-SLACKING STUDENTS. ATTENDANCE IS CRUCIAL!!!
I've been meaning to rate Dr. Kaviani for a while as I believe some of the reviews are crap. The truth: 1) Calculus 2 is a challenging class. 2) Prof. Kaviani will push you to your limit. 3) If you work hard (do every problem in the book!) and pay attention in class you will learn and excel! 4) You'll appreciate it later: universities are harder!
here is the truth about him. his class will be the hardest you will ever have. if your math is not strong you will fail. if you are lazy avoid him. he is not an easy A. However, if you want to be a better math student he will challenge you. his test are nothing like the homework. you need to do the homework and more to have a hope of an A. goodluck
the truth. i learned more from him than any other teacher. he is the hardest class ive had too. if you are not good at math or dont show up you will fail. you need to do all the homeworks and the extra credit to have a realistic chance at an A or B
I am an A student in all the math class that I had took until I took Calculus I. Mr. Kaviani made the class miserable for the students. We began almost 50 to end with 20,and more than the half of us fail the class. The main problem was that he never prepared us for his test. He complicated too much the tests, and only grade correct answers.
really difficult and boring. mumbles alot. he makes favourites and mostly spends his time trying to teach them. he's intelligent but just to arrogant.
I took his math class and wasn't helpful at all. He's a good teacher. He does give homework, I don't recommend his class for lazy students. Attendance is mandatory. No extra credit opportunity. Great teacher but don't recommend him for students who want an easy A. I did learn but not much. There are other good professors. Good teacher though.
If you're mature enough to take your education seriously, and are willing to commit the time and energy that he will require of you, then you WILL learn a great deal from this gifted professor. If you're lazy, unfocused, unable to commit to your education and the class - find another math teacher.
Hardest tests I've ever taken (1st test class average was 45%), but he is an excellent professor. I really enjoyed this class, and you will learn alot. He gives extra credit for doing Mathematica assignments, and I just wanted to note that there's a Mathematica companion for Stewart's Calculus called "CalcLabs with Mathematica" available.
He mumbles , hard to understand maybe one reason why students do so bad. He is stubborn too. He claims that he teaches to slow and rushes. He does make favorites. Straight up if your not comfortable with math in the first place don't take his class. Hw is easy . His test are dumb hard.
I thought he was a good instructor, but he had a tendency to move a little quickly during class (with what was written on the board/time allowed to copy notes). Do the homework that is assigned because it is very good practice for the tests! I got mostly As and Bs on the tests but I bombed the final and wound up getting a C in the class :(
Hes hard to understand, mumbles, has accent. He keeps attendance thought semester and cannon miss more than 3 days. Not only is he hard to understand verbally but visually as well. He scribbles things on the board that are hard to read. Basically if you take this class then you will have to be dependent on the textbook, he will not help you.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I took him last semester and half the class were not satisfied about their grade and he told me to not take the final. This professor told the class that for the ones who are failing, should NOT take 125 over the summer because there is no chance of passing. I am currently taking 125 online and having an A!
Dr. Kaviani is an excellent instructor. He is very dedicated to teaching and helping students pass. Math is math, and in that there is homework. Take notes and do the homework and you shouldn't have a problem. If you do have questions, ask him for help. He will be more than happy to help you. There is extra credit too!
If you are quick learner and strong math background. I recommend you to study with him. He has some tricky method to teach you. I don't feel uncomfotable with his accent. except your English is poor. One thing to remind is you have to read text before his class because he teaches very fast!! If you go to ask him.he always help you.
I strongly recommend to take his math classes. he is knowledgeable and has a good sense of humor. honestly, I enjoyed to be in his class.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER, TO THE POINT, I LIKE HOW HE TEACHES
I have a 3.4 GPA. I have had hard classes, but this one is the hardest. I do not recommend this professor. He has a very strong accent, so during class lectures, it is very difficult to comprehend what he is saying. He also moves very quickly. You must teach yourself. Maybe it's just my class, but he never answers questions well!!
He was the most challenging math professor I ever took. He puts you up to his (high) expectations which actually does help you to succeed in his class. If you're used to scurrying your way through math class, don't take him. You actually have to study a lot.
Worse professor ever! he rushes through material and one ask questions he makes person feel stupid. Did all my homework yet test were very challenging making it impossible to pass class. avoid him
This Professor has a Very Thick Accent, doesn't articulate well and rushes through the material at a very fast pace.I spent about 20 hours a week on homework teaching myself the material, because he was not a good teacher.
Dr. Kaviani is a good professor. He made the class difficult. No chance for extra credit & his tests were nothing compared to the homework & lectures. Class was full, however, most of the class dropped because they were failing. If you're willing to work hard for an A, B, or C take his class. If you want an easy A, he's not the teacher for you
Don't take him. He had favorites in the class that always received his attention. He never paid attention to the rest of the class. He moves too quick and his tests are absolutely nothing like the lectures or the hw. I do not recommend taking him. I am definitely up for challenges, but this class was beyond irritating. He has a thick accent too!
Despite previous comments, Kaviani is one of the few effective math professors at LACC. Yes you have to work hard – you're in college. He does a great job challenging your ability to think critically and employ reasoning. Tests are a lot like the lectures, but less like the homework he assigns.
The worst Professor I've ever had. He hs problem.don't take his class.
Must attend every single class, if you miss one class you'll get off track. Prof Kaviani is very knowledgeable and strict so stay on top of things!
He goes too fast and his explanations are not clear. He gets impatient if you ask questions and makes rude comments to students that are having trouble.
This professor is extremely boring. He is not clear in explaining the material and he has a very thick accent. He treats students rudely. I knew the material before taking the class, and that's the only reason I survived this course. But if you think he is willing to explain the material politely the second time around, don't take him. He's RUDE!
If you want to know how classes are in a university, take him. His class is difficult, so you have to work you ass off everyday. In the end, it's rewarding; it shows that you're not a low-life who expects that college classes is as easy as high school. HW is impt. to do. Tests are based on lectures, not hw. He plays favorites. He tests are HARSH!
Excellent Professor, I would recommend Prof. Kaviani if you need to take advance math classes. You have to practice and do the homework. Exams are based on book problems. He even gives you a sample test 2 days before every exam. He teaches really fast but if you practice at least 1 hour per day you'll be fine.
Best professor ever, not boring, does go fast, but he is crystal clear. Lots of homework do it all for the practice. The reviews are EXACTLY what the test is, just with different numbers. I had failed math 113 and 115, but he was able to teach me.THANK YOU Mr. Kaviani.
He has been teaching for a long time since his early 20's and has heard just about every excuse out there. The problem is that he now treats everyone like they are that student, he can be mean, rude and disrespectful. But he is crystal clear, but rude when you have questions. But if you don't care what he thinks just ask and ignore him is okay.
Professor kaviani is a good teacher, He tries to motivate the students to be responsible, and study for the test. He assigns a lot of homework but it is worth doing for practice, he always reviews the class chapters before the exam.
Be prepared to WORK! STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! This guy is very knowledgeable and passionate about this subject. He teaches it very well and gives plenty of examples. He is very strict and does not like slackers. His teaching style will definitely prepare you for University level teaching. Overall great teacher!
Don't take him... Theres a reason why his classes are never filled up. He is an egoistic professor who is only interested in solving textbook examples. The test he gives is not related at all to the textbook so good luck.
Not recommended! Rude, mean, and treats students like high school all over again. Very unwilling to make even the slightest exceptions! Once during a test I was coughing and needed water, yet he told me I couldnt go get water! Told him another day I had to leave early for an emergency, he said if you leave ill drop you! (I had never been absent)
You must be strong in trig and algebra to pass. No homework problem review in class, only in office hours. Extra credit: attend math club(you won't get credit if you miss 2 days, he won't tell you that), crazy hard mathmatica problems. Last minute changes in due dates. Exams are super difficult, problems not reasonable. Unclear teaching style
He moves extremely fast, has no exceptions for anything even with notes from doctor. In the syllabus and at the lacc school schedule it indicates class starts at 820am. After a few weeks many classmates noticed he was marking us late because according to him his class starts at 815, although the class schedule and syllabus say different. HORRIBLE!
If you practice enough, you will be able to pass this course.
Very good teacher!
Very good and clear math teacher who goes at a fast speed to teach you everything you need to know. Tests are fairly simple as long you do the homework he assigns and dont skip class. Lazy ones will not pass, he will drop you.
He is a discouraging teacher and gets annoyed when students ask questions and almost makes you feel like an idiot. His lectures are long but very understandable. He teaches at a very fast pace but you can hardly keep up and don't get to finish taking notes by the time he moves on to the next example.
It was really difficult for me to understand him. He likes perfection which is ridiculous because its a waste of time when taking the tests. One of the worse math classes I've taken there. Dropped his class and retook the class with another professor. Overall, not a good professor. I'm an A math student but he is definitely hard. Take another prof.
This individuals should not be even be even teaching. He seems to hate his job. I don't think he really likes to be a professor. I been to college since 2011 and Mr. Kaviani is the first professor that made me feel useless and hopeless. I am sure there are very good professors what would pay to be in his position. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
First class I will fail at LACC. I was placed in his class because there was no more space in the other classes. Everyone started to drop the first day of class because they said he is one of the worst professors. His tests are based on his acknowledge and not the book. If you forgot something from previous math levels, he will tell you to drop out
Took this class because he was the only one available . I've heard people say that he used to teach at SMC and lots of people complained about the way he teaches. DONT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM!
Woww this teacher is ridiculous. His test is ridiculousLy hard and he does not even teach thr class anything. Do not take him!!!!
STAY AWAY!!!!!!!
The teacher is funny, but he doesn't give you good examples on his lectures. When testing, he doesn't give any partial credit. For instant, if you solve a proof and you get 6 out of 7 correct. He will mark it wrong. His office hours is only 15 min before class. If you email him he takes 2 - 3 business days to answer. I will not recommend him
Cares about students. I enjoyed his class.
I took his class and I must say that he isn't a good professor. He is helpful at times, not all the time. Good amount of homework, he is very strict with attendance, tests are average, no opportunity for extra credit. Unfortunately, its difficult to understand him. Avoid taking his class
Yes he was hard but this is college guys. If (you) put in the work and study his reviews along with the book, you can pass. You can even (tube) an A. Put parties and games on hold for a while. His final was exactly like his review. You just really got to work hard. If you can take another prof, go for it. If you can't, STUDY FOR YOUR LIFE.

By far the worst professor I have ever took in my life Theres so many flaws with his teaching skills that's obsurd He doesn't explain very well poor examples and worst of all NOT helpful Additionally he makes any math hard Don't take this professor why you think his class is never full Make life easier because he doesn't care about his students
Professor Kaviani does not enjoy teaching. His only goal at College is profit. His criteria is money over college. He'll put the stick on the wheel. Rude attitude and cocky responses to students' in class questions. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!
Prof. Kaviani is tough but it is only because he expects the best from you! I have learned more in 3 semesters with him, than I ever learned in three years of high school. He challenges you and you will be better for it. He doesn't teach many classes anymore because he has now become the dept. chair. If you get him, you are lucky to have him!!!
Teaches super fast. Told us only 5 percent of people that don't get placed into calc actually get into calc. Failed his class and had to take again in the summer. Dont recommend him
This individual brings discredit to the Los Angeles Community Colleges. He would b better at home, since does not help students to learn. What a bad example.
Worst teacher i had at LACC! Treats students like children. I am fortunately decent at math but for those that needed help he did nothing for them and when they asked questions he seemed bothered.
I have taken professor Kaviani for math 124B and currently for Math 227. He is very helpful and I really like his lectures. first I was nervous to take him because of his bad reviews but I do not regret taking him. He gives a lot of examples and he does give a lot of homework but as long as you don't procrastinate you should be fine.
Let's say it this way; those who pass his class, are really ready for the next class. Yes, he is a tough professor, but he is fair. He is one of those professors who actually teaches you what he is supposed to. If you are a math or engineering major, definitely take him as he prepares you for much more difficult subjects; if not, no easy A's here.
Lectured too fast and hard to understand
It's simple if you do not understand his teaching he will assume you're stupid, or do not care..
Professor Kaviani is a very smart and kind person who does his best to reach all students and gives extra credit assignments to help everyone pass.
Kaviani knows his stuff but he moves incredibly fast and expects you to keep up. He spends a minor amount of time on basics before jumping in the deep end and he can come off as condescending if he has to explain himself more than once. He doesn't teach in the style of the book and his tests are not written like the homework. Do not recommend.
Great Professor. Be willing to redefine the way you study and set your limits in college. To receive an A you will work for it, but well worth it. Kaviani is a very fair man!
Worst teacher ever! Do not take his class. He had better teach himself at home. Cuz no one can follow him. The lecture goes super fast.
Dr. Kaviani says to us every class, If u dont understand raise your hand and i'll be glad to help. If u don't believe that believe that he gave up teaching at USC and working for NASA just so he could help us out. He really cares about us and wants us to understand the material and succeed. Do the H.W. pass the quiz 3 absence ur out!
Student BEWARE, KAVIANI write his own fake good posts
Math can be a challenging subject, and to a lot of people Dr. Kavianis class will be a challenging class. He has high expectations of his students and wants them to be knowledgeable in the subject. His exams are hard but he will prepare you for them. His class is not for a lazy student. He also gives a good a amount of extra credit.
He's a decent teacher, but his tests are incredibly difficult. For homework, he lets you choose questions from the book, but even the hardest questions from the book aren't as hard as the questions on the test.
Wouldn't recommend taking him as his test problems are mostly harder than anything you'll see in the book. Homework was easy to complete but virtually useless at preparing for the tests, to give you an idea, I probably did around 500 homework problems and it wasn't enough to understand the tests fully. Also does not give enough time for tests.
Took the winter course. Class is super duper hard. Test questions can be harder than from what was in the notes. His lectures are really fast and if he gets stumped at his own problems, you know you're screwed in the test. Be willing to show up and study more at home, or you will probably fail.
His lectures are easy to understand. But the questions on the quiz are way too difficult. He gave me a D and I passed all the quizzes and turned in all the homework. He said if we failed the final we failed the class. I suggest that if your a slow learner and have difficulty in math don't take him.
He said, "if you didn't get placed in calculus, you have a 5 percent chance of making it to calculus." Very discouraging, difficult tests and cares about proofs a lot. Its already hard when you dont believe in yourself and someone talks down on you like that.
Excellent professor. Calc 1 is a tough class in general so be prepared to work. Nice amount of homework, but you will definitely learn.
His lecture notes are more simple compared to the exam the exams are extremely hard. I suggest if math isnt your strongest subject dont take.
Nice person, bad teacher! This is a very hard subject! Too many un-nessessary chapters taught! Unless you want to become a researcher take him. LACC professors need to focus on helping students pass classes. Dont recommend him. A plan is needed to teach so students can finally pass it without having to take it 3 times!
Absolutly no extra credit, ever! his lectures are good but his tests don't necessarily reflect his lectures or homework! his expectation are too high for his lectures. Tests are very hard! this few the things he's good are the only few who passed! Trust me if you are not good @ math don't take him! you'll fail miserably!
Best teacher I ever had. He reminded me of Jaime Escalente from the movie, "Stand and Deliver." He took his time. His approach was slow and methodical. Math can be scary but Mr. Kaviani broke that devil down to its simplest form. He doesn't have to teach. His first love isn't math. It's helping students. Blessed to have had him. He get's an A+!
Kaviani's class was tough, but fair. You really do get what you put into it. He doesn't offer extra credit but he demonstrates that he cares whether or not you're getting the material. He can be direct which can be intimidating, so its important to pay attention and take notes (or pictures). Has a lot on his plate, so little time for formality.
I took him for an online class and I was also taking a couple of other classes as well. I passed all of my summer courses with A's which consisted of nothing but Computer Science and this math class was not it. His tests are tough.. everything you learn in the lectures cannot be applied to tests. DO NOT take him unless you want to fail.
Professor Kaviani makes his class very accessible. Because of the online switch, he does regular lectures and makes review lectures of the same content that can be viewed whenever. He is very encouraging and takes grading seriously. He gives explanations for everything and he has been very supportive through the difficulties of this pandemic.
Do not expect anything you learned in the class will be on the test. No matter how you study the Exam will kill you. he gives textbook homework which is no help for the exam. Do not take him.
Be prepared to study material on your own and/or with your peers. Prof zooms through the material very fast, leaving you behind when you're trying to copy down lecture notes AND trying to understand new concepts of math. Tests blindside you HARD with questions not from your lecture notes or homework. Lecture notes sloppy/hard to understand.
I took his Calc 1 Winter Session Course online just before he retired. At the time I didn't love his teaching style but I think in the long run it really helped. Glad I got to meet him, and glad he was the one teaching me Calc 1, even if it was only a 5 week course.
Kaviani needs to stop teaching and retire.
Kaviani's lectures can be hit or miss, but using resources like unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me stay on top of the material. The class is tough, but worth it if you put in the work.
