The "call - and - response" teaching method is ridiculous. She offers amazing help, but in class lectures can be annoying and ineffective do the above mentioned method. Can be a sweet lady, but still portraying "mean math teacher." Quizzes and tests are difficult, tests have quiz questions on them. Make sure to do the homework!!
GREAT TEACHER! She gives off that whole mom away from home feel. She makes you work for your grade but its worth it in the end. Office hours are your best friend. She is not for everyone though, if you are expecting an easy grade. She is not your girl.
One word: AMAZING!! She's great. I ended up dropping another professor's class I was failing and taking her, I ended the semester with a B. She's really amazing. I'm taking another one of her classes this semester. I DEFINITELY recommend EVERYONE to take her class. She is so understanding, and she clarifies EVERYTHING. Go to her office hours.
I thought she would be great, but do not take her if you are not committed. She is always talking about how you need to come to office hours, but people are busy with class or other things. Also, there is homework GALORE!! For every chapter, you have to document and online homework through the week!! This class took up too much of my time...
She is terrible. She doesn't take her time and she tries to cram a lot of sections in one class period. She gives you a ton of homework and quizzes and her test are difficult. Her teaching style is not for everyone. I advise no one to take her. If everyone is failing a quiz it cant be the students. She needs to reevaluate her teaching methods.
This class was AWFUL! DO NOT take this class. This class takes up too much time because of too much homework. She says she will help you, but she truly doesn't. If you want a good grade, do not take her. Her teaching methods are confusing and she rushes lessons. Majority of your semester will be spent stressing and crying over this class.
This teacher is horrible. Completely horrible. She will spend the entire class lecturing you about life and failure and have 5 minutes to actually teach the curriculum & then be upset when no one passes. Lots of work. Projects over subjects that haven't even been discussed. DO NOT TAKE HER. DO NOT.
Horrible! Failed course, I cant stand professors who are not willing to help you. She is rude in and outside the classroom. Expect tons of homework. However if you do the homework expect to pass the tests( its homework problems). She is a overall Pain in the ass....
This teacher is tough. I truly believe she wants you to succeed, but she isn't going to make it easy for you! She joked in class, but those assignments are crazy. Terrible test policy, I missed two test for medical reasons, still this professor would not let me make up the test. Needless to say I had two choices, withdraw or fail. So I withdrew...
She is a good teacher. It's really easy to understand her teaching style. However, she wants too much from her students. She gives entirely too much homework, quizzes almost everyday so don't think about missing classes, and gets annoyed if she feels like you are being a spectator in her class. Avoid her if you can!
Dont let others talk you out of taking her. She WILL CHALLENGE YOU; the secret is to go to office hours because I believe she wants her student to understand that no matter what everyone needs help one time or another. I had her for college-algebra and taught me so well that I didnt study for precalc. Got A in calc 2 and B in cal 1 with her.

Professor Johnson is an amazing teacher. She's very passionate. Many students won't take her because she does expect the best from you. Her class requires you to do WORK. She stresses the students' responsibility to engage in and out of the classroom. Do the work and you'll be fine.
She is amazing, you should be ready to work but office hours help! So down to Earth, her teaching style ensures you understand! I was scared at first but because of her im ready for the next math course
Professor Johnson is an amazing professor that truly cares about the experience of her students. Most students who complain are those who are not willing to put in the work (are still in the mindset of high school). She gives multiple extra credit opportunities and even lets you do test corrections. She's also down to earth and a great mentor.
Goes through lectures very quickly. Take notes before class and visit this professor during office hours. This professor sometimes does not go by the book.
This class was challenging, but I believe she thought me a lot. She does like for students to respond back to her when she talks. She does "pop quizzes" but they're just opportunities to get extra points. If you don't understand something, you can just ask her or go to her office hours. She's very helpful
Great Professor, always available for help during office hours. She teaches to where you will understand but if you don't practice at home you won't pass. Unless you already know all this stuff like the back of your hand it might be easier but if you miss a day you'll be so far behind.
As long as you do what's expected of you and participate in class, you'll be fine. Professor Johnson really is a good professor though.
I loooove Prof Johnson. She is so down to early and a great professor. She definitely knows what she's talking about and gives plenty of opportunities to succeed. People only don't do well if they don't pay attention, document, or do the homework. She is a very fair grader and her quizzes and tests are straight from the homework. Take her!!!!
Prof. Johnson is a great teacher. She's very thorough and wants her students to be able to explain WHY solutions are what they are. If you do not completely understand a topic, her office hours are the perfect time to resolve that issue. Class moves fast. She gives a lot of homework, but it's helpful. We get daily quizzes, so attendance is key.
There is a pop quiz almost every day, but they are very good ways to prepare you for the test. You MUST participate in her class. More Participation extra credit points. You will learn alot in her class but she is very helpful and has great relationships with her students.
I have taken Professor Johnson for Intermediate Algebra. She gave me a strong foundation in algebra so that I will be set for calculus courses. Her teaching methods are rentention guranteed. She bases her class on participation so if you don't like speaking up in her class , I would not advise her.
She is a really great professor. Test and quizzes are really important. Get ready to do homework everyday. She makes you enjoy math (I used to hate it) and always wants to help you succeed.
She can be a little "crazy" but it works. She is an amazing teacher, and even more helpful in office hours. She is kind hearted and you can tell that she cares a lot about students' education. Please please go to office hours whenever you can it will make a difference. I too the math 110 which had an online component which required a lot of work.
The class was not difficult because it was Math 101, however, I would not take her again. 75% of the class was online, you were able to work at your own pace, but this made me lose all motivation to come to class. I came to class to work on a computer something I can do in my dorm. She doesn't take excused absences and is just annoying in general.
I took statistics and the class moved slowly. We did not get to the T-Test and thats basic! We only had one exam because she kept pushing back dates. I did not like that because it made class drag. I also did not like how she checked our binders because it was as if we were in primary school. There also was a lot of busy work. Not challenging.
Aleks is horrible and everything is counted equally
The way the class is set up makes it more difficult than necessary for an algebra class. Shes a hard grader when it comes to group projects and worksheets even if you really didnt do that bad. And at times she can be rude and condescending to her students. But one thing I will say is she is more than willing to help you understand topics.
Professor Johnson is a real Gem. She really cares about your grade, but you have to care as well. She can be funny sometimes and she wants to see you succeed! I would take again!
Whole course is online, seems like no matter how hard you try in the class the way she grades makes it impossible to get an A regardless. Very tedious class and time consuming.
Isnt good at getting this grades on time and doesnt work with students best interest in mind
Not only is she a mediocre professor, but she's also an evil person. She has no empathy and is condescending and rude. She's a harsh grader which is not even the worst part about taking her class, it's the way she teaches. She teaches from a call and response method that is not conducive to the different types of learning styles. 0/10 Don' take her
If you have a choice, do NOT take her! She is very condescending. It's not that the material is hard at ALL, her grading system is TRASH. I have never seen anything like it before. I was doing well in the class and still ended with a C- and I was not alone. If you do have to take her, well good luck Charlie.
Professor Johnson is a great person and professor, but she has some tough ways. One thing that I did not like too much is that she makes you calculate your own grade, using a what is my grade sheet. Often times, if you need assistance figuring out your grade she acts like she does not want to help you, which makes it hard on you.
Professor Johnson is tough grader and she takes a while to give back tests and quizzes. She also isnt very lenient or flexible with assignments.
The instructor is unsympathetic and very difficult to get along with
She is very unsympathetic towards students and makes the class 10 times harder than it needs to be. She is hateful and simply does not care. She reads reviews on here and talks about it in class. Please avoid this class at all costs.
10/10 wouldnt recommend. I had her for math 101 and the content of the class was not hard, she just made it impossible to pass. She always went back on what she said and never took responsibility for saying false information. For a pre-requisite class that didnt count towards anything I shouldnt have been as stressed as I was about passing.
I have had her for 3 semesters and have had my words with her. She can come off as rude in the classroom but when you speak to her alone or in office hours she is a completely different person. She is sympathetic and actually cares for your grade and help you pass, but only if you care too.
Professor Johnson has a nice personality and can be funny at times but I wouldn't recommend taking her. She gives lots of busy work and assignments and we're basically taught by Aleks. She can also be rude sometimes and grades extremely hard. I passed but it was very stressful when the coursework wasn't even hard, she made it difficult.
Professor Johnson can come off as a nice person however as time goes on, it seems as if she doesnt genuinely care for her students. I felt like I was being taught by a computer and that didnt work for my learning style. The class took up so much of my time and I barely learned anything because of all the busy work. Protect your peace if you can.
Horrible teacher 10/10 don't recommend.
I could not deal with her slightly rude attitude and teaching skills. For this to be a prerequisite course for math 115, it should not have been this tough to work with her. Algebra is not hard but she is a difficult person to work with. I won't say don't take her because you may like her. Her style of teaching was not beneficial to me.
Shes so rude and literally makes class a million times harder than it needs to be. I used to like algebra but because of her, I hate it.
So if you're looking at Professor Johnson's ratings you are probably hesitant to take this class but don't listen to them. If you are a STEM major you need to take her class. She is a great teacher who wants you to do well. She doesn't just makeup grades so the grade you get is the grade you earn. I recommend her for any math class.
This class is very hard, the curriculum wasn't hard she just made it difficult to do well through hw and unnecessary assignments. She didn't really teach and the entire class was taught through Aleks (online). I've always been an A student with a few B's but this was my only "C" at Spelman, luckily I took her during covid and was able to do P/F.
She is a good teacher and knows what she is doing but if she doesnt like you your life will suck. She is not lenient nor does she accept excuses which can suck at times if youre having a hard time in her class.Being liked by her will help you a lot but I will say be ready to do your work and do it well or you have no chance. I would aviod if youcan
AWFUL
You will be fighting for your life with this professor. The course itself wasn't that bad, but her personality made it extremely hard. She would do and say things to make herself feel better, while the rest of the class is struggling. Make sure you go to office hours, that's the only way you'll pass her class.
This is thee worst teacher i've had in my life regarding math she failed almost everyone in my class The DAILY quizzes would be assigned at anytime she wanted. I remember we had just learned a concept, but she barley taught it and ASSUMED we understood and gave us the quiz. She doesn't care for her students so DON'T TAKE HER!!!!!
Will run her mouth if another class fails a test (they always do), claims everyone never tries, and goes on rants about how she sees us as her kids and that we need to step it up. A girl cried in class saying she's trying her hardest, always going to the office house, always going to tutoring she's still failing.
Part 2 Gave the whole class a sit down after a test 2 people passed on how bad this looks on her to the other math teachers and we need to help her help us but doesn't like it when we say the way she teaches isn't helpful. The TAs are just as bad as they feed into her delusions. I'd rather eat a jean jacket than take her class again.
She does more talking about how bad the whole class is failing, rather than teaching. She would waste a whole class ranting about that and then say we're behind I wonder why? She'll sit there and say that some of us are in unrecoverable states instead of helping us understand the material. She embarrasses us as a whole and says it's our fault.
To call Kiandra Johnson a professor would be a joke. "Professor Johnson" is an oxymoron to be completely honest. She constantly blames her students for being behind in the class even though she is the one that interrupts the class with her many tangants. She gets snappy with you even though she is unorganized.
She doesn't go by her syllabus but wants us to abide by it. She rescheduled and post poned tests multiple times and she did not give us our concrete rubric for the final project until the last day of class, which gave me little time to study for my other exams. She is rude and if I knew that she would be like this I would've never taken the class.
Honestly, one of my biggest regrets this semester is taking Professor Johnson's course. Her attitude chokes the room and stops any actual learning from taking place, she has no grace for her students and is condescending. However if you must take her course, I highly recommend visiting her office hours a lot and taking advantage of the math lab.
One of the worst math professors! Pretty sure that she did not even grade most of the assignments/projects. I had no clue what my grade was until end of the semester. Lacks sympathy for students and will not be understanding of any circumstances affecting your ability to complete work on time.
Literally the worst math class I have ever taken! Professor Johnson made this course impossible to enjoy with her constant complaining, extensive amounts of homework, and her syllabus requirements that were never followed. She seriously made me question my abilities as a student. No one should be allowed to tear young women apart as she has done.
(1/2) I wouldn't recommend her. The course, Linear Algebra, isn't difficult, however, she has set up the class to make things more difficult than necessary. She does not post grades online, pushes back quizzes and exams but doesn't update the course calendar. And we wont finish the class, but I was looking forward to learning more of the material:(
(2/2) We are so behind in course content because she goes on tangents. If students don't participate the way she wants, she will stop class and complain rather than continuing the lecture. She is nicer in office hours. Insists on having partner quizzes for some reason, which I dislike bc a lot of ppl in the class aren't serious
If you are ok with schedules rapidly changing, but no changes made to the syllabus/ course page then be my guest. Her personality made the experience of the class terrible. She doesn't respond to emails, and doesn't grade things on time, yet expects students to take her seriously. What nonsense. avoid if possible.
If you can avoid her, ADVOID HER! Gives so much homework!! You'll get homework for the class and then 3 random assignments every class period just because she feels like it, and it will all be due on the very next day. She also goes on so many random tangents during the class period that has absolutely nothing to do with the lecture or math itself.
My experience with Dr. Johnson hasn't been the best honestly. She doesn't answer questions in class and she expects us to be able to constantly attend office hours, which kinda isn't fair to us because it leads to 15 girls sitting outside of her office waiting to speak to her because she didn't cover enough in class. She's also not super nice (1/2)
Someone could easily not pass this class, not cause lack of knowledge, but cause of her sporadic teaching. Going to her office hours, WILL help you, but it's still annoying; theres always a long wait, and she could have taught it during class time like most math professors. The content itself isn't hard enough to warrant all that imo. (2/2)
She was not a good teacher. Spent most of my freshman year worrying about my grades. Had to calculate my own grades multiple times because of something she refused to grade or tried to be slick about. Not a fair grade and just a overall bad teacher. Quizzes every day and sometimes even when she sends you out the room she still ruins your grade. No.
just no no no
awful dont take
No don't ty
Awful awful awful
She is extremely difficult to work with. She doesn't work well with students. Pray you have a communicative TA. She is very strict in the way she likes things. She is also passive aggressive and doesn't own up to her own mistakes.
Absolute nightmare. She has an attitude and makes everyone in the class feel bad. She regularly cancels office hours, makes you calculate your own grade out of a ridiculous 1000 point system, and expects not only perfection, but her way or the high way in order to pass. As a freshman, having her makes me question coming to Spelman. DO. NOT. TAKE.
Do not take her class. She is an overall rude person. She has no respect for her students and disregards all accommodations that a student may have.
Dose not put students first, moves very fast, not open to other suggestions regarding solving math problems, you will be teaching yourself, no calculator
I forgot to make a review last semester but as registration season is here DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Professor Johnson is very rude. She blew up on a student just for asking for more clarification. She is not worth your time and money. Even though she does want everyone to learn, if you want a good professor don't take her.
If you miss a weekly quiz, she will not allow for retakes even if you have an excused absence. She is VERY rude and inconsiderate of how different students learn. She makes you calculate your own grade and make your own spreadsheet. No calculators are allowed and you will literally be teaching yourself online with the textbook.
DONT DO IT!
she waited until the last day of class to grade anything including our midterm and said that we were all failing the class as she was going to tell the dean to withdraw us. ON THE LAST DAY OF CLASS. no one knew their grade all semester. she is picky and unorganized. hard to communicate with. AVOID HER AT CLASS
nice lady, horrible professor. She waits last minute to grade and give feedback. she cancels office hours. overall, her class is unorganized. she was very unprepared and doesn't follow syllabus.won't know your grade going into the final and likes to assign things last minute. don't get on her bad side or she won't curve you. very unprofessional.
She is a professor who believes that it's her way or the highway. Her teaching methods do not work for all students & she refuses to see it that way. If 1/45 students understand her teachings that's her validation. You can't get a hold of her out of class & her office hours aren't that accommodating based on her assignments. Do not take her.
She is such an awful professor and here's why: - Doesn't grade things until the very last minute - Specifically told students “ Do not ask me or your TA about your grade” - Very unorganized - Won't have materials prepared - Assigns work (like extra credit) and doesn't have anywhere to submit it - Doest allow retakes or make ups
Does not respect her students.
that class was so hard solely because of the way she teaches. content would've been very easy to grasp if she didn't just fly by every lesson. has daily and weekly quizzes, doesn't grade on time, never accessible and blames students for everything. didn't post final grades until the last day they were due. genuinely dreaded going to that class.
The teacher introduces a new topic each day, expecting students to grasp it quickly for the quiz at the beginning of the next class. If you struggle, it can affect your quiz scores and overall grade. However, you won't know your grade until after finals, leaving you uncertain about your progress throughout the course.
This professor is extremely particular. If you don't do things exactly the way she expects you to, she will absolutely give you a hard time. Please try avoid taking her if you can. I had no choice.
I don't understand how she is still allowed to teach with so many bad reviews online and multiple people have complained about her. It really shows that Spelman doesn't care about their students. Spelman please listen to your students. My mental health is so bad and I don't know how much more I can take.
Don't do it you don't have too She has a weird way she wants ppl to take notes. If this was my first time taking Precalc I would have gotten a C at most. Office hours is MANDATORY every day to pass. Grading style is weird and inconsistent. She can be funny sometimes, and I don't wanna bash her as a person, but her teaching style beyond irritating.
She was Quite awful actually, talks way to fast, daily quizzes daily journals, daily homework, extreme grading etc. she was very rude and when i tried to have a conversation with her she flat out lied in front of the math department. she also didn't start the course until after the add/drop date so you had no idea what you were getting into
she has daily quizzes, daily journals, weekly quizzes, daily homework, and expects you to read the whole textbook three times a week. she is also incredibly rude and when confronted about it will lie! she was fired from morehouse i don't know why she works at spelman. she also is incredibly confusing when she tries to explain things.
Professor Johnson is amazing! Complete the assignments, take daily notes, and fill out her power points before class; you'll do great! Attend her office hours to connect, review quiz material, and get personal support. She truly cares about students who show effort and meets you where you need help. Her slides are super informative and helpful!
she is deeply unorganized and requires students to calc their own grade bur constantly changes her grading system. also requires students to perfectly remember so many fine details even though she is constantly forgettting basic things like what day we would have a quiz.
please don't even do it to yourself. the worst professor i've ever had. i cried after every class not even joking.
DO NOT TAKE !!! I didn't know my grade until last minute. She has a weird grading system that doesn't work at all. She disrespectful in class and will take up class time ranting about students. I would rather eat a poisonous dolphin then take her class again.
It was a very rough semester. But honestly, if you just do what she says you'll get an A.
Isn't a hard class if you actually put effort into studying and homework. The tests reflect the homework and lectures. Although she wasn't the nicest professor, she is a good educator, and is willing to help in and outside of class. Please make sure you study everyday or your grade will suffer.
As long as you ask questions and do what's expected, the class is very easy to pass. The only critique I have is that she requires us to calculate our own grades, which makes it a bit unclear to see where we stand. Other than that, she provides a great structure; everything builds upon the others.
Participation and attendance are key to passing. She provides great study tools and stresses rereading notes daily, which helps a lot on quizzes and exams. You'll need to adjust to her teaching style, which may differ from what you're used to. Great professor overall, but she's late EVERY DAY, so avoid her 8 a.m. classes!!!
shes awful and passive aggressive
horrible, don't recommend taking at all
Do not take this professor!
all of these good reviews literally sound like AI i wouldn't be surprised if the TAs or even herself wrote them she is awful.
She's a good teacher but I hate her grading. There's a quiz every day and class quizzes and exams are basically your grade. She has US calculate our own grade which makes absolutely no sense, this is your JOB. On the first day of class she explained some reviews rate my professor reviews. Reviews were accurate it's quiz heavy. Don't take her
I would say if you want to enroll in her course be EXTREMELY MINDFUL about what you're putting yourself through. She makes us calculate our OWN grades...like that's not her job in the first place. I feel like she secretly knows she's setting us up for failure with her grading system, so she leaves it until the last minute to see your final grade.
Do NOT take this professor if don't have to. This is a 101 class meant to help with basic math, but she makes it harder. She talks way too fast, and we never see our grades all semester. You have to calculate your own grade with no help. Only take her if you have no other choice.
She is a completely irrational professor. She thinks the whole class likes her when they all secretly hate her and try to be nicecc cf to get a good grade but no matter what you do she sets you up for failure. Horrible communication and extremely heavy course work for NO REASON. There is a reason seats are always available in her sections.
Professor Johnson is definitely one of the toughest math teachers I've had. Yes, her grading style is weird and inconvenient, but it can be beneficial. She's a nice person and she truly wants you to succeed. If you follow her guidelines, you'll be fine. However, if you're not the best at math or make minor mistakes, just rethink taking her.
