she's nice and the class is VERY VERY easy. but she teaches solely by the book and going to class is stupid if you just review the book for tests. 3 tests (and optional final), and these stupid case writeups/quizzes. try not to get Efua for a TA - shes terrible. so - the class is a joke and she doesnt really teach

I enjoyed going to class. She kept class interesting and knows what she is talking about. Tests are pretty easy, but you still have to study. If she offers extra credit, I suggest you do it because it will benefit you. Overall good professor, Id take her again

Great professor, genuinely cares about her students and has good lectures and guest speakers. USE THE BOOK. The online quizzes that come with it are so helpful. It's a pretty easy class. One thing though, AVOID EFUA OBENG(TA). She is the worst TA ever, angry, unclear, and grades work poorly. She needs to find a new career without human interaction.

Loved her class! She taught Mktg 301 at VCU this summer. Same class she teaches at Pitt though. Assignments are not demanding and tests are easy. Just attend lecture and read the book and you are fine. She is super nice and really helpful and makes learning marketing very simple and straightforward. Love her!

Tests are a bit tricky, but if you study you'll be fine. make sure to outline the book before tests because information solely comes from the book. random in class assignments that if you miss can hurt your grade. easy if you study and go to class. go to her for help on case questions, people who went to her office hours got a's on the cases.

To do well you need to outline the textbook and make sure not to lose points in the assignments and for not attending guest speakers. Not a hard class. She's a good lecturer, but her lectures aren't directly related to the tests.

Her tests are tricky because they're more analytical than factual. She sends you an outline of a study guide before each test--use it to outline your book and you'll be ok. Case studies are annoying because you cannot get an A without attending her office hours. Go to class, missing 1 in-class assignment can ruin you. Try and you'll get the A

While the material is extremely easy she makes the tests difficult. Cases are easy if you go to her office hours but if you don't she will slam you if its not exactly what she wants.

This class just did not click with me! I would outline the textbook before each exam and I still could not comprehend what she wanted on questions. Overall though, she was a good professor. I went to see her during office hours and she was really nice. She also kept lectures pretty interesting.

As others have said, cases are graded based upon what she wants to see. What she wants to see is you mention all relevant topics from class/textbook. A small blurb will get you the points. Had her for services marketing as well. Personally I liked her a lot, tried to keep it fun. Field trips, guest speakers, painless relatively fun assignments

Maryott is a really good professor. She keeps that class interesting, using lots of real world marketing examples. There are 3 exams and an open note cumulative final. She uses your best 3 exam scores. You need to go and see her or a TA for the case studies in order to do well.

This class material is all common sense. The exam questions can be tricky because of wording sometimes, but otherwise the it's all really easy. I don't understand how people struggle when she gives out a ridiculous amount of free points. The case study was annoying because they don't grade for creative ideas, but rather how well you regurgitate

I really liked her. Her tests were fair given that you studied a fair amount. She gave multiple opportunities for extra credit and even gave us an option of how we wanted our course structured (cases/no cases). I am not a marketing major but the class was very interesting and she was engaging. Most of the guest speakers were good also!

Better than I expected. I studied a lot, read the book, used the book's website... and still found her exams to be kinda tricky. I didn't realize til the end though how generous her grading scale is since she doesn't use percentages, offers extra credit, and lots of easy points. She also made the cases optional this semester. Nice lady too.

Marketing is a pretty dull topic, but Dr. Maryott made it interesting at times. Exams are difficult, but the rest of the class is pretty simple and there's enough extra credit available that you should be able to pull off a high B.

Pretty demanding for a required intro course. Not required to attend class but will have assignments and are required to attend guest speakers. Will make you do an assignment if you miss a guest speaker (even with legitimate excuse: ridiculous). Tests aren't ridiculous if you have test bank but definitely not easy. Disliked the class. Too demanding

I could sum up the entire course in two weeks of lectures. Grading in the course is completely arbitrary. The Music 2 Go simulation taught the class nothing yet makes up 130 points of class. She takes this intro class way too seriously.

3 exams and a final. The lowest exam score is dropped. A lot of reading, an extensive semester long group project, and mandatory class attendance. Really makes you work for the grade but I learned a lot. If you reach out, Maryott will be there for you.

I took Doc Maryott for Intro to Marketing and it was a solid class. Her lectures are interesting enough to keep you engaged and the tests aren't easy but they aren't too unbearable. The lowest grade i got was an 80. Studied hard for the tests and took the quizzes that were online with the text book and it was simple. Highly recommend her.

This is a hard class for an introductory class. However, you will learn that marketing is a very complex matter indeed. Work hard and you will do well.

I didn't think the class was as difficult as the reviews say it is. Lectures sort of just go over parts of the material, but not all of it is covered in class. You need to read the book in order to do well on exams.

She is extremely caring and will go out of her way to help you if you show and ask for help. Her class for an introduction to marketing class is awesome. Dr. Maryott is a fantastic teacher. She keeps her lectures interesting, and she gives extra credit. You can earn easy points through in class assignments and doing marketing research studies. The simulation was fun and informative. You must read to do well on the tests, but she allows you to replace your lowest test with the optional final.

Didn't think she was too bad. Actually enjoyed her class & felt like she wanted students to do well. Go to her office hours or email her because if you're confused and reach out there's no reason you can't get at least a B. She's very passionate, has good examples & tries to make the class enjoyable. I'd take her again.

She's not the best prof in the world, but the class is very manageable. I got 80's on all exams and got an average grade on the simulation and still ended with an A-. She gives a ton of extra credit opportunities which you MUST take advantage of because she gives everyone 100%. I thought the lectures were pretty fun too

I really like Maryott. She's my kind of person. She is a sports fan which is cool and a Pittsburgh fan (also cool). That being said she has very long lectures that can be VERY boring. Also her tests are pretty hard. Read the book. It will help a lot. Do the study guide. She does bring in some pretty cool guest speakers though.

Dr. Maryott is very knowledgable, but her lectures can really drag on and be boring. Reading the textbook is extremely helpful. It is an easy read. Do not miss guest speakers or in class assignments. Pay attention to homework due dates because there is no real order to them. It is not a very difficult class, but it is not a blow off either.

She's a pretty fun lady. Homework was a bit of a drag, but we got to bring some notes for the exams, which was super helpful. Also, lots of guest speakers who were awesome. I ended up getting an internship because of one of them. I recommend her.

Interesting lectures, with guest speakers. If you go to every lecture and read the chapter, you can get 100% on the exams. She allows one notecard of notes for exams, which are 50 multiple choice/true false. Homework for each chapter online/3 online quizzes. Watch out for random graded in-class assignments. Maryott is nice & very knowledgable.

Dr. Maryott is one of my favorite professors at Pitt. If you pay attention, lectures are super engaging, and she uses tons of real world, relatable examples. There are tons of small, easy grades to help you if you put in ten minutes of work here and there. Textbook helps to study for tests. Note cards for tests help a lot as well.

Exams are easy if you read the book. Make sure you're in class for the guest lectures. Didn't really need to pay attention in class, exams are mostly based off of the book. She will not round AT ALL but she does offer extra credit.

The class is pretty fair if you show up and take the slide notes. She gives pretty fair exams, and the quizzes and homeworks help to boost your grade. Her lectures can be a little dry sometimes but they correspond directly to the exams. Overall not that tough of a class.

Dr. Maryott is a good lecturer who cares about her students. Her exams are the definition of fair, not to difficult but certainly not a joke either. The online assignments can be found online so they are essentially free points. A solid class where you can learn a lot. Pretty similar to MCE so if you enjoyed that class, you should enjoy this one.

Dr. Maryott is extremely fair and caring. Almost all of the content from her tests come from lecture and the examples she gives, so going to class really helps. Be careful about the online homework due dates, they are easy but will sneak up on you and are easy to forget about. Final is optional. Adheres to a strict grading scale & will not round.

I really enjoyed intro to marketing with Professor Maryott. She had great examples in class and was very engaging. Lots of little assignments that aren't bad, 3 exams, and extra credit. If you skim the textbook for the main concepts and use her study guide, you will be good to go.

I liked her class a lot but it is really important to go to every lecture as her exams mainly consist of lecture and textbook material. Had interesting guest speakers. 3 exams, weekly homework of 5 or so questions, 3 quizzes of 20 questions or so, and 3 extra credit opportunities. Not the warmest professor but she is still kind. Great choice!

She is an outstanding professor! I truly enjoyed the material we learned and the teaching style. I am only a freshman, so I was worried about being in a class of upperclassmen, but it went really well. She gave some really cool examples to help us visualize the information. Highly recommend! You will like the class more if you're a marketing major.

For this class, Maryott hit the head on the nail. Its exactly structured as an intro course should. Easy enough for the people who are taking this as a requirement and don't feel the need to put in a ton of effort but hard enough that you actually learn useful material. She is really good at using examples in class if you learn that way.

I am so thankful that I took Dr. Maryott for into to marketing! she was so kind and her lectures were very engaging. I liked her class so much that I am adding a marketing second major because of her! I highly recommend!

She's a good professor and I would take her again. Didn't form a personal connection with her, but enjoyed attending her lectures. She makes it as interesting as possible. Tests are definitely a bit difficult, but you get a notecard to use. Automatically gave a decent curve on the final and provides opportunity for extra credit.

Maryott is a genuinely passionate professor. She is respected by her students, and always tells mildly stimulating stories that are just enough to keep you awake during lectures. Entire grade is based off of 3 midterms. If you're a busy person, its perfect because you don't have to attend class. Just watch the online lectures.

she gave a lot of extra credit this semester. i recommend going to every class bc tests are basically just the examples she gives in class which makes it kinda easy, but there's also no way to practice/test yourself bc hw and quizzes have literally nothing to do w/ the class content, it's straight from the book which she doesn't use that much

I thought her class was very interesting and informational. keeps lecture interesting and engaging with tons of real world examples. guest speakers during the semester who are really fun and have unique businesses. Definitely take note of the in class examples because the exams are very application heavy. All in all love the class

Dr. Maryott has interesting lectures and is very knowledgeable about the subjects we covered in intro to marketing. The class had multiple opportunities for extra credit and she released very clear study guides before each exam. I would definitely recommend her for any marketing course!

I loved Dr. Maryott, she has great lecture that will set you up for success on her exams. The test is mostly application but a lot of it was discussed in class, so if you look over her lectures you'll get an A. She also does question appeals which helps and is kind and also help you really think deeper about the question you missed.

People say her lectures are boring but oh well. She ties in real world examples which are key on the exams. Exams are also super straightforward and if you review lecture, textbook, TopHat (occasionally does them so go to lecture) then you'll be set up for success. Allows for points back on exam if you can argue your answer through work.

honestly dont know why she has such low ratings. yes it's an intro class but class avg still have to be within cba guidelines. her exams are not hard at all if you attend / rewatch lectures. i found her lectures very engaging as she uses a lot of real life examples which help conceptualize material. offers lots of ec and can rebuttal exam questions

I enjoyed Professor Maryott's class and did not find the exams to be too challenging, study the key terms and be able to apply them. Lectures were not always the most entertaining, but she uses a lot of relevant examples that will appear on the exams. Quizzes and assignments were not overly time consuming, and a note card is allowed for the exams

guys. quizlet is still a thing so only worry about the exams. her lectures may be slow, but the specific examples she talks about in class WILL be on exam so pay attention to that. exams are in fact harder than it should be for intro class, but read before exam & type the entire chapter notes into word doc 3*5 textbox and you'll be great. good luck

The lectures can feel quite long, but she effectively explains concepts and applicable examples. The exams seem difficult but manageable if you rewatch lectures and really utilize your index card. Make sure that you get the extra research credit and get as close to 100% as you can on the open-note homework and quizzes. She wants you to succeed.

Dr. Maryott is passionate about what she teaches. She's great at explaining concepts and uses videos/examples to make class engaging. The tests weren't bad either. My issues are more about the class structure - it's an intro course but I wish it was more collaborative than lecture-heavy. Otherwise it's decent and feels like a Psych class.

Maryott is not a bad teacher. Her lectures are long, but if you listen, a lot of the information and examples are on exams. All homework and quizzes can be looked up on quizlet, so don't worry about that. I recommend filling out the provided study guide and studying it. You're also allowed a notecard on exams which is useful. Overall, not too hard

Good mix of lecture and textbook material on tests. Very vocab/rote memorization-heavy; lots of terms. Lectures give you memorable examples for terms but not much else outside of the readings. Smartbook practice questions were very helpful but difficult to access via the software. Kind person in general and has great connections!

Professor Maryott's intro marketing course is challenging but manageable. Lectures can feel long, but she explains concepts clearly and uses engaging examples. Exams are tough, but studying the material and using tools like unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Overall a decent class.

Maryott seems to get a lot of negative reviews, but I think that her class was just test heavy. The three exams make up a lot of your grade, but if you study hard you will be fine. Other than the exams, the rest of the class is very easy, and she is generally interesting to listen to. I would definitely recommend her, even though it is not easy.

Maryott has a pretty organized system to her lectures. She was very accessible outside of class. Overall, the class is pretty low maintenance as long as you attend the lectures.

Professor Maryott was great! Lectures are very engaging with thorough examples. As long as you write down her examples from class and review notes multiple times before exams, it should be pretty easy to get an A. Also offers a couple of ways to get extra credit! Not sure why people don't like her.
