She is a very helpful and amazing person. She really does her best to be there for the students, while still trying to teach them what they need to know. She wants to make it interesting for us, even when at times it just isn't. A very respectable woman.
Kim makes it very clear what is expected of you as the student, she is available and willing to work with you. She really knows her material! Definitely take a class with her, there are only good things to be gained from this respectable woman.
I am not sure what I feel about the class. I think that her study, and paper guides are some of the best ones I have ever received. But I don't like that she treats people like they are at a JC. We are adults and if we have to miss a class there is a reason. She's there to teach and she should give all the info for us do what she asks.
I don't think this teacher had structure whatsoever. The class was a mess. For the final everyone was left in questions for the final, most students ended up doing a 25 pg paper because of the amount of information she wanted us to write. She was even surprised in how much writing people's papers ended up and didn't expect it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLAS
I regret taking this class. Even when u do great on tests & hw, don't be surprised when u think ur getting an A when u end up getting a C at the end. She gives way too much work, & the directions about the final paper were ridiculous. She had no clue what she was doing or about any of the assignments she gave out. She wasn't helpful whatsoever.
Class was a ton of work but doing the assessment was fun. Prof was super helpful with my final paper. Her guidelines were totally laid out and clear and she held writing sessions in class and office hours. I'm happy I took the course because I'm going into an MSW program and I fell totally prepared.
kim is 100% crystal clear in what she expects. i personally did not do well on the first exam but ended up with an A- in the class. yes the exams are hard and the paper was hard. but if you read what she hands out and go to class and sections she prepares you for everything. also loved learning about the personality tests and what they mean.
As far as exams go, I don't think she can be any more clear, straightforward, and helpful. Follow the study guide and you will do fine-probably more than fine =] There are no tricky questions! Believe me when I say that Kim cares about her students tremendously, much more so than any other professor I know. Take her class; you will love her.
Without question the best course I've taken at UCSC and the best professor EVER!! Course topics were extremely fascinating and I learned more in this class than any class I have ever taken. Kim is definitely passionate about the subject material and her lecture style is funny and engaging. Take her for any class she teaches, you will love her!
good class, i love kim! some people think she treats you like a kid but shes just super nice and considerate. she prepares you for the tests, but the answers had to be a lot more specific than i thought they would be. really interesting class topics!
Kim is a great professor and she's very funny. She pretty much lays out everything right in front of you and kinda spoon feeds the information to you. She treats everyone like a kid a bit but it's great. Only thing though is that she wants very specific answers on her tests but it's not the end of the world if you just listen to what she says.
My feelings about this class and Kim are really ambivalent. She chooses interesting topics but I felt she went WAY to fast for all the info we needed to know. I didn't expect this class to be 100% empirical articles, all of which are 30 pages long. Yawn. I also can't remember one day when we started class on time. Grr. Besides these things I liked
I highly recommend this course. Readings and lectures were very interesting relateable to real life. Kim is so great! She is really approachable and very patient with students. Exams are tricky so be sure to do the reading questions for each day and DEFINITELY use the study guides she gives you. Take this course!
Kim is the best professor I had all my years in sc. She is very clear and even tho it might seem like a lot of work, it's easy and she really cares for her students. straightforward. listen to what she says and you'll do fine. I would recommend her to any student.
Cardilla is a fabulous teacher. She does everything she can to make sure you understand the material and do well in the class. Lectures are engaging, reading is pretty good (not too much) and work load is decent. I would highly recommend her as a teacher!
For Psyc60 Personality Psyc, you learn about how there are some ppl that have "evocative" personalities, or ppl who evoke different responses from ppl. She is DEF one of them, so bubbly and down-to-earth and enjoyable, she makes you WANT to go to class even if you can pass without ever going. She, herself, makes the class so enjoyable!!
Kim is a great professor - 170 with her was (for me) one of those few classes you really enjoy and look forward to going to. Very manageable work load and pretty generous grading as long as you take the class seriously and put in a decent effort. Highly recommend this class.
Great Prof. Very clear and understanding, keeps the information interesting and relevant. Would defiantly take a class for her again. You write a paper in this class. As long as you attend lecture you'll pass the class
She's like a gem amid a bunch of old dingy rocks. AMAZING.
Kim is the greatest. She is very clear and everything on her study guide is on the test. Whatever is not on the study guide is not on the test, no questions asked. I plan on taking as many classes with her as possible
Best professor ever!!! Extremely clear, conscious, understanding, awesome!
Kim is amazing! She presents the material clearly, compassionately, and respectfully. She really cares about her students and is very funny. She goes out of her way to help her students and ensure they understand. Answers questions with honesty, integrity, and empathy. Respect her very much!
Attn all psych majors: TAKE THIS CLASS! Great professor, no surprises on exams, fun lectures, helpful; I really cant say enough good things about Kim. Just go to lecture and do the study guide and youll get an easy A. If you can, take Kim over Hoffman for abnormal psych; you wont regret that decision.
Kim is the most amazing teacher i have EVER had. She has a great teaching style and her power points and tests are clear and straightforward. There is not a single negative thing to say about her and her class. I will absolutely take the next upper div class that she is teaching. Easy A if you put in the time to study.
Kim is so awesome she came into class with a fever and no voice (and still managed to keep her upbeat attitude) because she was that dedicated to her students succeeding! A+
Kim has a great sense of humor, knows her stuff extremely well, and keeps me paying attention for the whole two hour lecture.
Kim is the BEST!!! Clear, funny, energetic and friendly. No surprises on her tests, very fair grading. If you put in any sort of effort at all in this class, you'll find that Kim makes it easy to succeed.
Kim is the BEST professor I have ever had here at UCSC. She has made psychology so much fun and interesting that I have declared as a Pyschology major. Her study guides are very helpful to me when I am reviewing for the exam. She makes Psych 1 very interesting. She is funny, energetic, intelligent, helpful, and just a great person.
extremely enthusiastic and engaging. great lecturer. tests are fairly easy (only on lecture material, and her study guides list only things you need to know). weekly reading quizzes were kind of a pain, but also easy. mandatory sections, but they are helpful. great professor!
Easy class best professor that i ever took as my 1st year. Very clear and simple test are base on study guide but she makes them wordy but at the same very easy. Text book aren't really necessary but only for online quiz.
The best lecturer/professor I've ever had. She is so engaging, energetic, happy and all her lectures are interesting, definitely makes you want to go to class. I declared Psych because of her. She is such an incredible professor/person. Tests are very reasonable. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER, I hope to take more classes with her.
Besides Bartlett and Pratkanis, Cardilla is the best professor ever!!! She's interesting, engaging, and amazing, has organized lectures, gives memorable examples when explaining concepts, and exam ?'s are taken right from the studyguides. You only use the book for take-home quizzes. Do the studyguides and attend lecture, and you'll ace the class.
I've had Kim for Psych 2 and now Psych 170. Although both were early morning mandatory lectures (you have to sign in) she made it bearable with her humor and bubbly personality. My only complaint is that both classes were almost too easy.
Kim is awesome! Her 115 class is great. The paper is very straight forward (BUT START IT EARLY). I loved the class, however it was an early one. She totally made it worth getting up at 6 a.m. to be there for her 8 a.m. class. My best advice do the readings know the key terms for the test and get a lot of help on the paper!
Best professor at UCSC! Her tests were very straight forward. Literally her questions were taken from the study guide. know study guide/ key terms for her tests and start the essay early. If you do all that, you'll ace the class.
Cardilla is a great professor. She articulates well and is available to help students. The Psych 170 class was extrememly easy; I'm a little upset that it was an upper division class. It felt like a low-div class. Don't need to read, the test and study guides have the same questions in the same order
Kim is Amazing! Made my quarter a lot easier. She really understands college students & she makes herself available. Study the study guide n you will have no problem passing. Very interesting course
My favorite professor at UCSC! She was very interesting and enthusiastic. Though class was at 8 am, I went to every lecture because her class was so enjoyable. The paper is easy for anyone who attends class regularly.
Kim is a wonderful professor. One of my favorites in the psychology department in fact. Her tests were easy if you attended lecture. It is obvious that she enjoys teaching.
Kim makes sure that every student understands ALL the material. If it means slowing down and going over subjects again, she'll do it while making sure you know everything you need to know for exams. Her tests were straight forward if you went to class. She allowed one cheat sheet per test and gave 10 EC quiz points for attending 6 MSI sessions.
Kim is the sweetest! She went over things a million time if we didn't understand, and it's so obvious she genuinely cares about her students. She shows up to class with A LOT of energy every morning, and her class was a pleasure to sit through. Who would have thought that would be possible with stats? Tests are easy if you attend lecture!
She is an AMAZING professor! One of the best math teachers I've ever had. VERY understanding and extremely fair in grading and assignments. I laughed at least once every class. She is very upbeat and entertaining. HIGHLY recommend taking PSYCH 2 with her!
Definitely one of the best/nicest prof you are ever going to meet. Enthusiastic and keeps the class entertained. Super clear with her lectures and what she expects from you
Cardilla is one of the best professors ever, is organized/entertaining/fair, explains everything well, if you make use of all the practice she provides with homework/section activities/quizzes, (and attend every lecture!) you'll do fine, (I got 100% on two of her exams), only she can make a math class not only doable, but fun.
Kim was awesome, I can't say enough good things about her. The time passed quickly and it was so interesting! Glad I took her class.
Kim is so wonderful. Besides being such an interesting, engaging, and professional teacher, she took time to inspire and cheer me up when I was down. (I talked to her during her office hours). Since transferring into UCSC, I've found a lot of professors are distant, and hard to talk to. NOT Kim. I'm very glad she is here. UCSC is lucky to have her!
Study guides are identical as her exams and her lectures are always fun. She makes the class funny, interesting and gives great examples to understand the material. She treats her students as high school kids sometimes and takes a lot of time in class to explain due dates and such, but other than that she is great.
Kim Cardilla is an amazing teacher. She is so full of life and helps you to explain the topics by giving personal experiences as examples. Even though it was an 8:00am class she made it exciting and kept you awake. She is really fair and tells you what is expected of you and sticks to it>
Cardilla is enthusiastic and puts a lot of effort into the class. She really cares about her students' understanding of the concepts.
Kim is excellent! She is funny and understanding. I actually looked forward to going to her class. She gives a study guide that is IDENTICAL to the test. She makes the topics easy to absorb and retain. TAKE HER CLASS!!
Amazing teacher! She was always helpful and so caring. If you have the "i hate math/stats" mode, don't worry! You'll see it's pretty easy thanks to Kim :)
Kim is a fantastic teacher who is extremely engaging with the material as well as connected to the students she teaches. She's got class, style, and a top notch knowledge and presentation to make this class easy and memorable! Highly recommend taking anything she teaches.
She is wonderful! She is very knowledgable, very passionate and very funny! I really enjoyed her as a professor. She was very clear about exactly what would be on the final right from the beginning of her lecture series.
I love Cardilla! One of the greatest professors I have had so far. I hardly recommend going to class. Her lectures and her personality are amazing. It was worth going to class just to see her teach.
Great Professor. Very entertaining and clear. Study guide is the exam. Super fun super easy
I loved her classes and learned a lot. Everything from the readings to lectures, discussions and connecting it all with a smile = spot on (:
BEST TEACHER EVER.Makes class fun and easy to understand.
A pleasure to have. I enjoyed coming to class and she made lecture clear and understandable. Best professor I have had here at UCSC; I hope to have another class with her!
If your fearful of math no longer need to be in that mindset. Cardilla is one in a few professors that can take this topic and make it so fun and easy that you will learn much along the way while realizing this is best decision you've made. Have to put in the work, do the homework, review the study guide bc thats exactly what you will be tested on
Professor Cardilla is amazing. She is super approachable and easy to talk to. She has a great amount of enthusiasm for what she's teaching and always keeps the class engaged. Absolutely take this course even if it's just to watch her teach!
Cardilla was an amazing professor! I wished she taught the whole class instead of only part of the section. She makes it clear what she wants you to study and her test wasn't too bad! Easy compared to Kawamoto and Callanan's test. She was very enthusiastic when she is teaching and always enjoyed going to lecture because of her! Highly recommended!
Cardilla is a great professor, probably my favorite one I've had so far. Her energy is incredible, she's very clear on the material, and she is helpful whenever anyone needs help. Hard not to get an A in this class especially with her allowing us to use cheat sheets on the exams
Get together with a group and complete the study guide. I would do the more obvious questions in class when she was going over the powerpoints. She tells you EXACTLY what you need to know. Fill out the study guide a little each day and read over it also a little each day and it's an easy A. The lectures are fun.
Cardilla is an amazing professor. She makes 8ams worth going to. Attendance is not mandatory in passing the class, but she does take attendance and that is part of your grade. Get the reader and do the readings. Tests are fair. Take a class with her if you get the chance!
Wow, simply amazing. Never had a professor who makes learning math fun. I'm not very good at math, but she definitely makes it super easy to learn. And if you are struggling I strongly suggest going to her office hour!!! SHE"S SUPER WOMAN!!
Great instructor! lectures are clear.definitely understandable. make sure to take notes. tests consists of both lecture and book questions. exams are not difficult if you pay attention in class, you might not have to do the reading so much but it helps to do so. she has a great sense of humor. i really enjoyed taking this class with her.
Definitely my favorite professor so far at UCSC. She is very easy to understand and if you pay attention in class and attend all the lectures, you should not have a hard time. Go see her before or after class for extra help. I merely took the course to satisfy my requirement for my major but she definitely increased my interest in the course.
Kim Cardilla was the best professor I've ever had. She was extremely nice, thorough, and clear. She gave real life examples and made sure her students understood everything before moving on. She is passionate about her job and always knows how to make her whole class laugh. Taking this class was the best decision I've ever made.
An all around awesome teacher. I never thought I would come to somewhat enjoy statistics, but she made it happen. Her compassion and care for students is just outstanding. She genuinely cares for her students and helps them do their best.
Helpful and nice. Early classes suck though.
Her philosophy is that in order for students to learn it is important to shift the focus away from exams and to the actual material. This is accomplished by GIVING THE EXAM QUESTIONS TO STUDENTS before the exam in the form of a study guide. Literally each question on the study guide is a question on the test. Fill it out, know it, get an A.
Professor Cardilla is wonderful at teaching! She puts up lecture slides and test study guides online way before they are happening, so there are no bad surprises. There is not much reading for the class, but it is very important that you do it for discussion in lecture and for the tests. I love her approach to personality psychology! Fascinating!
Cardilla's lectures are crystal clear, if you come to class you'll definitely do great on the exam. She seems to care about her students.
Cardilla is an enthusiastic and hilarious teacher! She kept me entertained and interested in the subject matter in all of her lectures. Both her exams were pretty much word per word from the power points and study guide. The paper was the only thing you should really be focused on but even that was pretty easy and straightforward.
Kim makes the class the best learning experience possible, gives fantastic (and extremely manageable) readings, and lectures that are easy to follow. Highly recommend taking a course with her, she really does a fantastic job and it's a treat to learn from her!
One of my favorite class experiences at UCSC. She basically tells you what the midterm questions are, if you finish your study guide you will do well on her tests. Super great lectures too. All around great professor.
Didn't read much, didn't study much, managed a B. If I studied a bit harder I could have gotten an easy A, but I was being stupid. Overall, great teacher with a sense of humor! As most Psych classes go, it was a chill class.
Very funny and enthusiastic about her subject! It's nice to see a professor so passionate about the course and able to connect with the students on a humorous level.
Very funny and enthusiastic about her subject! It's nice to see a professor so passionate about the course and able to connect with the students on a humorous level. Hope this was useful
Prof. Cardilla was engaging in lecture and gave the easiest of the three exams in Psych 1. She dealt with some really interesting material and presented it transparently.
Cardilla is an amazing professor. I had her for two of the Psych 1 sections because the usual third professor was not there at the time. For both of the sections, she gave amazing and engaging lectures. As long as you go to lecture and do the study guide, you will get good grades on the test. Very straightforward. She's my favorite professor so far
Incredible instructor that is personable, realistic, and funny. She is kind to students while still keeping the course on topic. Doesn't let the class get away from her but shows great respect for her students. She also is funny with really cool and comprehend able lectures. Very fun. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED
Kim is so great! Down to earth, friendly, and most importantly she's a fantastic lecturer. I've taken multiple classes of hers, and she's always made the material interest and applicable. She makes what she expects from you very clear, so if you work hard enough you're sure to earn an A. I always looked forward to attending her classes.
Kim is amazing. She's energetic and super excited about what she teaches. Loved her.
Cardilla is an awesome professor. Her lectures are not boring and quite entertaining. Her finals are very straight forward. Greatest professor to have. I have never fell asleep during her lectures.
Kim is great. Her lectures are lively and she is very relatable and real. I am not a psychology major, but she made me question my decision to do otherwise. Her sense of humor made otherwise dreary and boring topics interesting!
I took Psych 1 with Kim and 2 other professors. Kim knows how to make the content of the class interesting and makes connections college students will understand. She keeps students engaged by throwing in some jokes. She keeps it real. Would take another class with Kim.
Super sweet professor, very clear-cut on all the concepts and technicalities, and genuinely makes an effort to ensure that everyone understands what she is saying. Great with answering questions when lecture gets confusing, always very positive and encouraging. Does assign work and quizzes but it is all very doable with moderate effort.
She's so great!! Love this professor. Take her class even if you're not a psych major.
There were three professors and they were all amazing. Cardilla is super energetic and passionate about this subject, she is a great teacher and makes lectures worth going to. Midterms/finals are relatively easy and based on memorization and there is mandatory section with easy HW and a research paper.
Kim Cardilla is probably one of the best professors at UCSC. She had the last section of the Psyc 1 class and it was by far the best section. She is very clear on what she's going to test you on and makes sure that you fully understand it. She is also really funny and relateable. I wish she was my mom.
She is honestly one of the best professors i have ever had. She makes lectures so easy to understand and clearly explains material. Though she does assign plenty of homework, the class is easy to pass. Section and lecture are mandatory. Go to class, go to section, do the homework, and you'll for sure get an A.
Kim had surgery the quarter I had her so we tests/quizzes were online to provide us more class time. I really appreciated this. Tests would have been open note anyways. The biggest thing that dinged my grade was the tough TA grading criteria of the homeworks. I'm hoping to get Kim again next year.
Love her!
Amazing lecturer. Her office hours are on Friday mornings (goddamn) but is so worth it to go. Gives study guide on first day of class. Fill it out after every lecture and you'll ace the exam.
She is super nice and sweet. Lecture was great. Everything she talks about in lecture is on the test but it is super easy.
Hands down the best professor I've had at UCSC in my 3 years here. Cardilla is an incredible lecturer, she keeps lectures interesting and fun. Her tests are super easy as long as you paid attention in class and used the study guide.
She's an amazing teacher. Even though she only gives like 5 lectures, they're all worth going to. She's honestly one of the best professors and she truly cares about her students. Don't miss her lectures because she bases her exam heavily on the examples she gives. Also read the book and answer the study guide before taking the exam.
Kim is the best teacher I've ever had. Her lectures are engaging, important, yet hilarious. If you ever have the chance, take Kim's class. She wants you to succeed, but you have to pay attention, attend lecture, and try!
I love Kim so much, she really cares about her students and doesn't play games, she gives you a detailed study guide while simultaneously teaching the ins and outs of psychology. I want to take another class with her!
Kim is an incredible professor!! Lectures were not mandatory but very interesting, because of the way she taught the material. She works with the San Jose Sharks and her own pediatric psychology practice and still treated us like equals, so so respectful and kind. She rewards you for going to lecture by sharing test questions beforehand each class.
Her lectures are super fun, hilarious.
Love her! Would love to listen to her lecture all day, she makes the content relatable
Professor Cardilla is the best Professor I have ever met in UCSC. Her lectures are fantastic and easy to follow. 2 exams + 1 paper contributed your grade. Although sections are not mandatory, my TA is really nice and helpful. Use the study guide properly and you will get an A.
This class was super interesting. You have to actually read though because it's included in the tests. Your grade is based on a midterm, final, and final paper. So you aren't graded on much but if you mess up on the midterm she'll let you make up some points. She's such a great professor.
Great lecturer
Kim is hands down the best professor at UCSC. Do not miss an opportunity to take her classes! She is so kind but also pushes you to work hard. Her intellect is truly amazing and I loved learning from her!
her lectures are very interesting, and she literally tell you what are going to be on the exam. I took psych1 with her and other 2 professors, she is the most easy and interesting one.
Super engaging and well informed instructor. She gives great examples related to topics during lecture.
With the new redesigned teaching program of psych 1 (since spring'19), KIM is the best professor you could get. Tests are exactly like the study guide, she posts notes, she is very clear about dates, and the quizzes (on Canvas) are easy and all answers are in the book. Book use is encouraged, but not in a way where it is the only way to learn.
It was so awesome to have Kim Cardilla as my Psyc professor this last winter quarter. She made learning psychology manageable and interesting without any of the stress. A lot of "crazy," events happened on campus and she was able to have a near perfect solution for every bump in the road. Solid professor, great teacher and genuinely cares.
She is the most caring, flexible, and understanding professor I have ever met. She is hilarious! She makes learning so much fun. You could tell she really cares about her students. No textbook. Reading is very easy to do. She gives very accurate study guides. Midterm and final. Three papers - 2 pages max. You can totally get an A in this class.
She was an amazing professor for this class. She prioritizes her students and does anything in her power to held out her students, especially during this chaotic quarter. Amazing professor and I hope to take a class with her again.
Literally one of the best teachers I have had at Santa Cruz. Made me love statistics even though I find it a bit challenging. Explains everything in detail and doesn't assume you already know everything. If you ever need anything, she is quick to respond to emails and gives appointments to help you personally. So glad I took her class!
I LOOOOOOVED Kim. I hope I can take another class from her soon. My favorite thing about this class was that it was comprehensive of soooooo many topics within psychology, even though the tests weren't as hard as the lecture material. She was always very clear about what you HAVE to know and what's fun to know if you're interested in psych. 10/10
Best teacher to learn from hands down. She makes the class very interesting and goes step by step on everything. There are 3 tests which is 75 percent of your grade. The other 15 comes from quizzes and hw. She tells you what will be on every test step by step. She cares about you as a person and your final grade. OVERALL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Kim is the greatest professor Ive had at UCSC. Dont even bother to read other reviews, take my word for it: take any class Kim is teaching.
Mrs. Cardilla was the best teacher I could have asked for. I had to take her class in remote instruction, but she made it so easy for everyone. Very simple class with very few criteria, and her lectures were awesome.
I thought Professor Cardilla was very considerate, caring, and made class a bit more personal by sharing personal anecdotes relating to the topics we were learning. Her study guides are clear, and there are no trick questions on quizzes or exams.
Even when teaching to an online class, she really was so great. Loved her.
Her class is asynchronous. There are reading quizzes almost every week, and they are really easy. Also, the tests are open note. She uploads lectures twice a week, and they are really fun to watch, I never got bored. There's also a lot of time to do the quizzes and exams, so that's a plus. This class isn't really that challenging though. Easy A.
Professor Cardilla is straight to the point and an amazing teacher. I took the asynchronous online course fall 2020. Her quizzes are very easy if you read the material. Her exams are very easy if you watch the lectures. Do your work and you will receive an A. Not to mention, her lectures are entertaining because she has an amazing personality.
Loved her class, her online course is asynchronous so you can do it at your own pace. Your grade is solely based off of the reading quizzes and exams but they aren't too hard. Reading quizzes are given plenty of time and are open note. Exams are from the lectures. Her lectures are one of my favs super interesting and engaging.
Kim was an amazing professor even if my class was completely asynchronous. She made it very clear what would be on the quizzes and tests which was very helpful. She has amazing energy in her lectures that kept me engaged even though I wasn't really in class. Very understanding about the pandemic so take notes for open note quizzes and tests.
KIM CARDILLA I <3 YOU. this class was the most interesting yet the most doable. She could not be more clear on what you need to do to pass, no games. lecture heavy but one of the few I can listen to without getting bored. the syllabus is all you need to be successful, you know from the jump what you will be graded on and its super doable. Take it!
for online class, all quizzes and exams are open notes & book. her lectures cover a lot of info and she is super helpful during office hours. you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. she uses a textbook that isn't too difficult to understand, but a little lengthy (with good info).
Took in spring 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. Overall, Kim is one the best professors in the department and at UCSC. Very clear and concise in what is expected of us and helps along every step of the way. If you are decent at stats, this will be an easy A . If you're not, you will get help you need. Very nice and welcoming in office hours!
I had Kim online, as an asynchronous class- I only wish I could have had actual lectures with her! She's super funny and her lectures go over course material well. I was able to learn well in this class
Kim is super sweet! Her lectures were so interesting to watch, even through the screen you can tell she really cares about her students. Textbook required for quizzes, but the reading isn't super hard. Quizzes are easy as well. Midterm and final are very straightforward. Wish I could've taken her in person!
Kim is the GOAT. I took this course in Winter 2020 and it could not have been an easier intro course. This was a really easy-going class, there were three exams which were very easy as long as you did the study guide! The readings weren't mandatory but definitely helped with exams. I highly recommend this even if you aren't a psych major!
Professor cardilla was an easy A for anyone who has taken a Psychology class in high school. I took a psych class for one semester for senior year and this class was literally that. If you have the tiniest bit of knowledge of psych Easy A. Lectures could be done at 2x speed and you'll still pass. Tests and quizzes were open book and note.
If it's her class, doesn't matter what class it is, just take it because she is absolutely one of the best professors I have ever had. The lectures were very engaging and I was never bored or zoned out (and this was an 8 am). She is hilarious and you can absolutely see how passionate she is about everything she does.
kim is the sweetest prof i've had so far! she made the online transition to school very easy and her lectures were well-organized and thorough. gave me a really solid foundation in psych and i'm so thankful
absolutely LOVED professor Cardilla! her development of psychopathology class was so interesting, and her lectures were very engaging. would definitely give her a 10/10 and would take another class with her
She is very thorough in her lectures and gives you a week to complete just about every assignment. Sections are graded but are helpful if you do the section activities. I loved her class.
I LOVE Kim. If she's teaching it, take it, be engaged, and you'll learn and get an A too. She's the only professor I would take an 8am for, but it is SO worth it. Her lectures are understandable and engaging. She will give you every tool you need to get an A.
BEST STATS PROFESSOR EVER!! She really does care about her profession and her students, every time you go to lecture be ready to understand whatever troubling concept you may have. She is kind and funny, I hope to take more classes by her in the future!
Best decision I ever made was saying f*ck you to Bruno and choosing Kim Cardilla's Psych 2 instead. Prof. Cardilla is amazingly helpful, if you go to her lectures, and follow the way she shows you how to solve the problems you can pass the class with an A easily. She assigns either 1 homework/exam a week, open note/book. Take the class, trust me.
Kim is the best professor I've had at UCSC so far. She made statistics very comprehensible! She is more than willing to help you if you're struggling. Amazing professor!
Kim is one of the best profs I've had all year. She's very kind, approachable, and is always happy to help her students. She made math very comprehensible and every assignment (including tests and hw) were open note on Canvas. Absolutely take her class if you can! She matches her reviews perfectly.
Professor Cardilla is an incredible professor. She is extremely helpful and genuinely wants her students to succeed. One of the best professors I have ever had. Grade is mostly made up of 3 midterms, but take good notes in lecture and you will do well. Lectures are not mandatory grade wise, but necessary to understand the content.
Kim is amazing. Take good notes and you will get full homework points, do the study guides and you will get 100% on the exams. She is a great teacher and makes math approachable :)
Professor Cardilla has made me understand math this past quarter. Her lectures go into detail and prepare you perfectly for homework and midterms. If you have the change to take this class with her, I would 100% recommend it.
Kim is the best professor I've had at UCSC. She's super funny, kind, and is great at what she does. She is very clear about what is expected, and all the tests are open note and straightforward.
Cardilla is everything a professor should be. Smart, caring, but informative as well. If I had to write anything negative, she sometimes can make easy topics seem confusing by over explaining (we spent two whole lectures on mean, median, and mode). But that over explaining helps when it comes to difficult topics. I highly recommend her!
Kim is an amazing professor & Psych 115 is a great foundational course for anyone interested in clinical work.
Professor Cardilla is clearly knowledgeable, but the pressure on grades impacted my feelings about the class. The heavy load of info and homework made me not like this class, when I love this subject. Almost anything and everything covered could be in exams, so it's hard to study. Just to keep in mind if you're looking to take this class with her.
sooooo easy. she responds to emails quickly and is extremely helpful. just do the LPM and all hws and tests (open note) are identical. students got caught using ai for assignments which is just ridiculous and pathetic. an A is practically handed to you if you just do the work (only takes ~1hr/week). her upbeat attitude was admirable for an 8am
Super easy class and she cares. Answers all questions with no judgement and work was easy.
Professor Cardilla is an amazing teacher who makes the material engaging and easy to understand. The open-note tests and assignments, along with Unstuckstudy, made this class a breeze. Highly recommend taking it with her!
Need I say more? Kim is awesome. This class's subject matter is difficult but she makes it approachable. Required readings every week (that can pile up if you don't read them!), 2 papers and 2 exams. Tests are online + open note which is great and papers aren't too bad. I would absolutely recommend.
Genuinely love Kim. She's a professor worth taking an 8am for, so kind and actually funny. Material is super interesting too. Grade consists of 4 things- 1 paper, 2 exams, and attendance. Tests are online, open note/book and everyone gets 6 hours. Do not expect any free extensions from her tho.
Amazing professor who cares about you, your grade, and the content she lectures. It was an amazing class to have as an 8am as all slides are uploaded before class so it is low stress. Great story teller and is often connecting content to her personal life or asking for students' experience. Very engaging. The readings help but not needed.
Just scroll down to all the positive reviews, everything is already been said. Amazing professor and really does care about the students' time, you just have to communicate.
She's my queen I love her. So funny. The class itself is insanely easy if you've already taken a stats class but I still like going bc she's great
Prof. Cardilla is super friendly and caring! She made stats concepts easy to understand and conceptualize, tying in lots of real-world examples that made class interesting. Very clear and stern about not cheating on assignments, which is obviously fair! She gives you all the time and resources you need to get an A, just take notes and utilize LPMs.
One of my favorite professors I've taken here. She gives you everything you need to succeed in the course, and she is (fairly) extremely strict regarding the use of AI or any other resources out of class. Follow the LPM and attend class, then you're all set. She makes stats seem easy!
Professor Cardilla is one of the GOAT psychology professors at UCSC. Her lectures are straightforward from start to finish especially if you are not a stats person. Her exams and her grading policies are fair. 10/10 recommend everyone to take PSYC 181 since data analysis is practical to understanding the real world.
Took her senior seminar as well as this class. Super fun and incredibly caring. Literally just do not cheat or use AI, the class is already good enough to pass with the lectures. Best professor I have ever had.
Prof Cardilla is so nice, she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed and also understand the material. She is willing to help you as well as the TA's. I would definitely utilize the teaching team and office hours. The lecture practice material prepares you for exams and homework. You can use anything from the class on tests/hw
If you're someone for whom math doesn't really click in your brain like me, CARDILLA IS YOUR SAVING GRACE. Her lectures are so easy to follow; she goes through every single step and explains why she's doing them, no matter how long you've been learning the content. The only downside is that the lecture is at 8 am and mandatory. But, WORTH IT!
Dr. Cardilla is a fantastic professor. She gives you all the tools you need to be successful in this class and is extremely knowledgeable and kind. She is extremely serious about academic integrity, but quite literally shows you everything step by step and all quizzes/homework/exams are open note & book, with one week to complete every assignment.
Super sweet but very strict about AI and academic honesty. Mandatory 8 am attendance, though she excused absences with medical proof. Class is interesting, but learning depends on your effort since exams are fully open-book/notes and online. It kinda seems like the only rule of the class is to show up and not use AI. Easy A for an upper division.
