This prof. is not good at teaching! She especially should not be teaching shortened courses in the summer, which is all she does. Nobody can understand what she is trying to teach and a lot of them get bad grades.
Ok This teacher is not so great and everything the first person said is true!!! if you take her get ready to teach yourself with the book and she loves teachers pets so try to be a suck up!
I have to disagree because she seems to be very helpful in most instances. She is pretty clear in her teaching skills and if you don't understand something then she will explain it, although she does move too fast sometimes. Overall she is a pretty fair professor.
Prof. Ghiselin does a very good job of teaching the material and is dedicated to helping her students succeed. There are some interactive elements to her class that make algebra fun. Her teaching skills and approach will definitely prepare you for higher level mathematics courses and that's the whole purpose of this class.
This teacher does not explain anything. A pre algebra course should come with a little explanation. Good luck learning anything with her as a teacher half the class already dropped out.
She is fair and she cares for her students. She explains the first day what is expected from us and so far she has stuck to it. I enjoy her teaching style and enthusiasm.
Mrs. G is willing to help anyone that is willing to help themselves. Her explanations are clear and she opens the floor for questions so I don't understand what those other comments from students are talking about. She is good and I would recommend her if you really want to learn the basics of math.
Very nice Teacher, genuinly concerned with her students and their grades. Strict about absences in excess of 3 but blames it on school policy. Very much a math geek, and proud of it. She knows what she is talking about and will show you 'how' to do something as many times as you need, but dosn't really explain 'why' it works, which I need!
She's great! Awesome clarity! I'm impressed, she makes math seem easy! Plus her status would be MATHROX!
Mrs. G is the best math teacher that I have ever had. She is very good at teaching and keeps a subject that I have had a hard time with in the past interesting and fun! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER!!!
Mrs. Ghiselin is the best math teacher from MCC. She is really helpful, and will come in 30 minutes to 1 hour before class to make sure everyone is understanding the material. She is really strict with attendance, and gives a pop quiz every week. I highly recommend her!!
MS. GHISELIN IS A FUN TEACHER. SHE BRINGS GAMES TO INTERACT AND TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE LESSON. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER. I WISH SHE WOULD TEACH MAC1105!
I think she tries to hard to help the under achievers that it burdens the people that actually have knowledge of the subject.
DONT DO IT! If youre a math wiz then she's ok! Doesnt like to explain if you need help.
She is AWESOME and will spend one on one time in the office helping you if you don't like to ask questions in class!
She knows her trig stuff! More helpful one on one than in the regular classroom sometimes.
This is a great teacher
Mrs. Ghiselin has a clear and insightful teaching style and encourages her students to succeed. Excellent teacher for 1033!
I loved Mrs. G. as a professor, she was always helpful when I was not understanding the material, however I disliked the class, and that has to do with not like math classes in general. She is definately one of my favorite math teachers!
Great teacher. She was always available for further help during her office hours. Her classes started on time, and she took attendance. She grading scale seemed clear and fair. I have already signed up for Topics class next semester. Side note: Not a big fan of textbook homework and MML as well. SCF Math Dept should pick one or the other.
She reminds me of a kindergarten teacher. She is so nice, easy to understand, and knows her stuff. I am in love with math now because of her teaching. I have had her for 3 semesters now: 0024, 1033, and 1105. High A+ every time if you enjoy math!
She uses math lab very little and it is a shame since I learn more from it than from her. She goes to fast when she works out the problem. She is really nice on the surface but seems to not really care. Oh, and always bring your notebooks because she does give pop quizzes. would not recommend her unless you are really good at math!
Ok teacher, not super helpful. I didn't like her as a professor at all.
She is a very good algebra teacher... Easy to get along with and extremely helpful... My only complaint is she speaks a mile a minute and sometimes gets ahead of herself when explaining the lesson.
I have taken her classes since 0024, and had A+ in all three classes. College Algebra is a hard course, and she made it easy. Sometimes she goes a little fast, but if she sees people are not catching on to her, she goes back to explain it again and again. Do all homework, half of your quiz grade will be answers from homework. Easy class if you stud
First off, I want to say that she is a nice person but she is not a good teacher. However, in my opinion she treats everything in class like it's basically a review. She skips steps and will only explain certain key things if you ask her. She go through everything very fast so prepare to teach yourself on quite a number of topics.
Went through lectures wayy too fast. Seemed unwilling to explain/clarify. Seemed unwilling to help, period. She even announced that we were "having a hard time understanding something really simple." Yeah, really simple to her. Lied about giving quizzes, and what was going to be on them....Appeared to not want us to pass.
She's funny, she teaches, she takes no crap!
Prof Ghiselin is one of the best math teachers you could ever have. She makes sure students know what steps to take. She reviews everything before the tests. The only bad thing I have to say about her is she won't let you make up ANYTHING under any circumstances. I was out of town for a funeral and basically miss 2 quizzes and couldn't make them up
Shes a awesome teacher willing to help...Basically if you have your homework and your mymathlab done you will do fine in this class!!SHES FUNNY AT TIMES TOO..I STRONGLY RECOMMEND HER!!!
A good teacher. She goes through a lot of the material in class especially if anyone is having difficulties.
Starts class on time so if you can't find your way to class or want to get the class off topic go elsewhere. I appreciated the group sessions when the class as a whole was having a hard time understanding the subject matter. Snappy dresser and easy on the eyes. If you are prepared to learn and put in the effort consider this teacher!
The lady knows her stuff no doubt about it! However i feel like she gets annoyed if you ask a question. If youre decent at math you'll love her but if it's not your best subject go with someone else. Make sure you do your homework cause thats what quiz answers come off of. Take notes and pay attention cause she wont slow down for anyone.
Prof Gheslin is nice. She will help you and not make you feel bad for asking questions... She did get annoyed once in class for a student asking a question, but this had just been addressed and that student wasnt paying attention. I dont care for math and she made it clear, will take her on next course.
I thought she was great, it was very easy for me and she makes it easy to get an A. I did it in a 8 week course and got a 99.89. she gives extra credit and is nice
She is a great teacher. Takes the time to make sure you understand the math. She expects you to be on time - don't be late to her class! Do the work and attend class and you will do great in this class. She is really good at responding to emails and posts grades quickly.
Professor Ghiselin is a great teacher. She enjoys teaching and it shows in her class. She makes a point to help her students understand the work. Do not be late to her class & show up for the classes. She does not go slow in class. I took the summer course and it was very fast paced. I have never been good at math and I earned a 100% in her class.
I took this course over the summer (6 weeks) so we really flew. Professor Ghiselin does love to teach and it shows. She even stopped me a few days ago and asked how my current math class was going. I would take her again.
Math is usually my good subject but out of all of the math classes I've taken, she's the only one I've done bad at. She doesn't explain things very clearly and when someone asks her a question she seems annoyed. Not the worst teacher i've taken, she's nice, but I'm not learning well at all.We don't use the book at all!
I love this class! She is a great teacher. Make sure you do the homework because she has random pop quizzes on the hw that she usually tells you about. If you review the notes in her class and do the hw you should receive at least a B in her class.
I would say definitely take her for the lower math classes but not for pre calculus or higher, She's not clear at explaining anything and takes a longer and more confusing approach at solving a problem. She reminds me a kindergarten teacher. Should not be teaching pre cal.
Avoid this woman if possible. She is horrible at teaching. Gets ahead of herself and says wrong answers ALL THE TIME. She changes due dates of homework without announcing them. It's happened twice to us already and its only the 7th week of classes.
This professor is organized, fair and helpful. I took her 8 week Topics in Math course and she was very straight forward. She helps you out by dropping your lowest quiz, replacing your lowest test with the grade you get on the homework and her final is really easy.
Mrs. G is very good. She is fair, approachable and well organized. I have a friend in another professor's class this semester and I HELP HER because her current professor is not as helpful and does not give good notes. Sometimes we give her a hard time but I think everyone in my class agrees that we have the best professor.
Mrs. Ghiselin is an extremely nice teacher. Her class is not overly difficult, it is very fast paced though. If she asks the class a question and someone answers, she assumes the entire class understands and moves on. You do need to do the homework for the class, but it's not excessive, and it really helps. Overall I'd say 9/10.
She doesn't use the textbook except for homework. If you get the Ebook you can print it off. She uses mymathlab and course notes you can buy at the bookstore for cheap. I've taken her for the past 3 math classes and refuse to switch. She gives double extra credit for every test. I absolutely LOVE her! Your crazy if you keep looking for a diff teach
Mrs. T Is definately one of the best professors SCF has. She makes all assignments in her class relevant to today's world. She clearly goes over assignments. She goes out of her way to help students who need a bit more direction, especially if she can tell if they are trying.
I've had her for College Algebra & Pre-Calc. Definitely a great and easy class. Explains things well & her door is always open. She doesn't really ever use a book, just my math lab. Do that and you'll be fine.
Took most of my remedial classes with her. They were harder than the actual College course in math I took. And did one retake in intermediate algebra. I am a math wiz but when you put letters in there my brain goes blank. The Prof. got me through it so I could pass. Great teacher. Note bring M&M's.
She's great if you are good in math, you may need another teacher if you need an extra boost.
She's a very quirky, upbeat and easy to understand professor!
Shes a great teacher and her door is always open for help. If you do the homework on mymathlab it helps with your grade.
She is very helpful and kind. I took her online class. I wish she taught the higher math classes, I'd stick with her.
Ghiselin is a very nice lady and good if you are good at math. She is clear and thorough, just not very smooth. Help is available to those whom need it. No textbook use at all, all assignments on MyMathLab.
I am NOT good at math but she was very helpful. Always available in her office too. Do MML and you will score high on her tests because she uses the same kinds of questions on both.
I took her online class this fall, I started slowed but I catched up really quick, she is very helpful and flexible. She keeps sending e-mails with reminders and optional review classes before the tests. Great teacher I passed her class with an A.
She definitely holds you accountable for the homework but is great at explaining algebra and makes it interesting. I have gone to her office for extra help twice and found that to be SUPER helpful too. Always smiling!
Ms. G is by far the best math professor I have ever had! Will definitely take more of her courses in the future. Has a fair amount of homework, but it is math so it should be expected. An AWESOME person. If you are shy, you will feel awkward because she makes you talk with others in class.
Prof. Ghiselin wants you to succeed. If you pay attention and do the work then you will pass this class. Uses mymathlab a lot and uses textbook problems for HW and pop quizzes. A lot of room for extra credit and test are fairly easy. She explains things very well and I have a hard time with math but I love this class! Def. take her.
I would not reccomend Ghiselin to take if you are not good at math. It's her way or the highway. She doesn't take suggestions of other ways to find out a problem. She's not very nice either. Tends to pick on people.
Just finished our last test before the final and Mrs. G was very fair the entire semester. Do the MML homework and earn a chance to replace your lowest test score with the final exam.
She acts as if she doesn't want to be teaching the class. Does not write out the steps to the problems, just throws numbers up on the board. Does not review before tests. If you ask questions she seems annoyed and makes you feel dumb in front of the whole class. Everything I learned in the class, I taught myself.
If you are taking 0028 asa refresher, prof G is your professor! However, if this is a class you have never taken I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU PICK A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR! she does not explain step by step, the content is HARD, you do not have a textbook, she seems annoyed if you ask her a question, she gives ALOT of homework. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!
Great teacher but one student is always complaining. She has flunked every exam and I admire Mrs. G's patience with her!
I haven't taking math in over ten years..although I'm not quite sure if I even passed..(today was the final)..it was not because of her lack of teaching...very straight to the point...always willing to go over things...even gives you a quick email to say if you are or aren't doing well...if I have to take this class over...I'll be picking her!
Ms g is smooth and to the point. Only a half whit couldn't understand her. Very clear. Great class aside from the "model" BHAA! That sat a couple rows behind me always wining to ms g because she "didn't know how to teach" lol! If I could bet I'd say she failed! Only people that don't listen will fail. Great professor
Class was not easy but if you pay attention and do the work you will pass. Most work is done in my math lab. moderate amount of homework. But this helps with retaining the lessons. Lots of areas for bonus points. Including dropping your lowest test score. I would recommend this class.
Was very happy to be in the class everyday. I don't remember a time she didn't come in without a smile. Only time she was every strict was when someone was using their phone. she knows 3 way to teach the same thing so keep asking if you don't get it! Just do you work and keep asking and it should be smooth sailing
Love her teaching style. She uses notes that she puts on angel before class. Required MML homework-- do it or fail.
She was EASILY the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. She goes very fast and always assumes you follow how she does the problems without explaining them. She has no problem making you feel dumb in front of everyone and was very rarely willing to help. Unless you are math savvy do not take her or be prepared to fail.
Ms. Ghiselin is one of my favorite teachers, she is kinda of goofy, but goes over the material and make sure everybody gets it. She always goes over any questions we have for homework. I am now taking 1033 with her, and will take 1105 with her again. I missed a couple MML and she reopened for me, but because I was up to date with all homework.
Great attitude and clear lectures. Perfect professor for struggling math students.
Tough class she goes to fast and gives test and quizzes all the time half the class failed always takes attendance
She seemed to be a good teacher. She explains the topic, but only one time. She does not take questions. If you do not understand something she gets very mad. You have to look over her snide remarks. I am not sure if I would recommend.
This is my second time taking college algebra and Mrs. G actually explains the stuff so much better than my last teacher. Her notes are helpful and she is willing to help you in her office. Her tests are fair and she tells you what to study too.
She knows how to explain the subject several different ways and sometimes I need that.
Great notes, use them to study instead of reading the book.
She made the lectures interesting and easy to understand. Her tests and quizzes were straightforward and based on the lectures. She has a fun personality in class, a passion for math, and is willing to help students after class if needed. I learned a lot in her class. I think the teacher did an awesome job and highly recommend her class!
I appreciate what my Professor did for me and my classmates. If I have a chance in the future I will take the Professor KIm Ghiselin 's course. I am happy when I have the Professor like her.
She is great at math and I enjoyed her. I took her as a 5 week class in the summer and things move very quickly. If you pay attention in class and do your homework, you should pass for sure. She gives quizzes but it is open note. do the review for each test and youre ready to go!
She's really nice. Her lecturing style is clear. You will have two main types of homework. One with the textbook and one online, the textbook is a must if you want to pass. She's fair
She does not take questions. She is disrespectful towards the students if you ask question. She also has her favorite students.
She is not the easiest teacher at scf, but also not the hardest. She is very quick and doesn't explain step by step how to do things. I took her during a summer A session so maybe it was just faster. Overall, I got an A in the class, but I do have a strong math background.. so she may be too quick for someone not as strong. Shes a nice person tho
Such a great teacher, very kind and always happy every morning to teach math!! Wish I had her energy everyday! Loved her class!!
She is an excellent teacher!!! She did an awesome job, I highly recommend her class!
This professor is ok and I did good in her class but she taught very fast and most of the stuff you had to learn by yourself. Her attitude to her students wasn't pleasant at times either so it's better to be silent. Her tests are just like the reviews but do the hw because having the answers is half of the grade quizzes
You have to buy the MML code because all your homework will be on there. If you aren't too good at math I wouldn't recommend to taking this class because it goes by pretty fast. If you are pretty good at math though, you wouldn't mind this class. She is a great person but expects you to know most of what happens in the class
She's a good professor. Very clear and to the point. She will answer questions and help out along the way as much as you need but this requires you to respect her. Don't even think about having your cell phone out. She's there to teach you and acts like it. The only thing I don't like is I felt like I was in a middle school class a few times
Ghiselin makes college algebra very easy, after barely passing algebra 2 in high this class had worried me. But all the concepts I did not understand previously were made clear in this class. Test are very easy if you do the reviews because she makes the review based off the tests she gives.
Overall, I enjoyed Professor Ghiselin. I knew walking in Applied Calculus was not going to be easy. However, I ended the class with an overall high B, and worked really hard for it. She gives pop quizzes, but in a way to prepare you for the tests, and always make sure you do your homework, that it a big must.
Always making the class laugh
I took her twice and got a 96 in both classes because of her clear expectations and awesome test reviews. She is my favorite professor at SCF, with interesting and engaging lectures. We had group quizzes in both classes which helps if you're slacking, and I believe I recall that she dropped our lowest test grade. Great teacher, highly recommended.
Took this class for summer C. Each thing we did helped prepare us for the tests. She gave us course notes to follow along with during her lectures to understand the most important parts, which really helped. I ended with a 97% average and I'm not exactly a mathlete. I feel like she sets you up for success.
Do not take her unless you are very strong in math. She doesn't like for students to ask questions, she does skip steps and if you ask, she becomes annoyed. She is very quick to make you feel like a dunce, and my experience with SCF has been very helpful. Not her
Do not take her class! Especially if your a first time student and struggle with math. I had taken an online math class before her and I had no problems; you will be asked to do unnecessary discussion posts, and answering to every video tutorial in mml. Typical poor high school teaching methods that don't reflect those of a college professor.
Best teacher at SCF.. Willing to work with you if she sees that you are putting in an effort. Very funny. Study reviews for test and you will succeed.
Not an amazing teacher.
Good, easy to follow explanations. Uses "course notes" in class and is willing to work with you in her office.
Amazing math professor. Ghiselin takes her time explaining the material but speak up if you have questions. She will speed up if no one answers her when lectures. Ghiselin is caring and wants students to pass.
SO MUCH HOMEWORK. YOU ARE DROWNING IN HOMEWORK BY THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK. Homework is ultra repetitive and isn't helpful. MML is very specific and leaves no room for short cuts. You'll spend 2-6 hours on one HW assignment alone.
Overall, she is okay. She gives a lot of extra credit so that is a plus. The only thing is, she makes you work in groups every day. I sometimes feel like I'm back in middle school with her.
She will meet with you in her office and help you understand everything. Reasonable with grades and wants you to be successful.
She uses course notes during lectures- therefore she doesn't write every step out when explaining problems; this can be confusing. She also erases the board before you can write the steps down, and when you ask what she did or ask a bad question, she gives a snarky response back. I basically relied fully on the book.
Not the greatest teacher. She teaches by giving course notes like middle school. The problem is that they don't cover everything. EXTREME amount of hw: Mymathlab AND textbook problems. You end up just trying to get it done and looking up the answers rather than practicing and learning. Also would assign work that wasn't gone over in class sometimes
Seriously.. do not take her. Worst teacher I've ever had at SCF. Very rude and I had to teach myself.
Not the best but tries. The notes you are expected to print out are useless so I wouldn't recommend printing them out. YouTube would be of better help. She goes over material very fast and expects you to know most aspects of it beforehand. Most of the time you'll end up self-teaching yourself to get caught up. MML & written HW given. Overall, meh.
Good teacher, good grading scale, overall if you listen and do your homework you will pass.
She is literally the human personification of the green m&m. You should study if math isn't your strong suit. Lectures go very fast, and you definitely need to study. One time she gave us all ice cream, which was super cool. Also gave us candy during the finals.
She really likes Smash Burger. She will bring up Smash Burger any chance she gets. Just when you thought Smash Burger was over, she creates a lesson example revolving around it. That being said, easy A if you study. She'll probably be more friendly if you say "Smash Burger", maybe bring her some too. I enjoyed the class. Wish to have her again.
I enjoyed this class! It was definately difficult. I feel like the homework isn't weighted enough compared to the tests. Besides that, Professor Ghislein is a great professor. She uses visual examples and genuinly cares for her students. She was the only professor I had this semester this year that handled the hurricane well and kept us on track.
She said she was straight forward but when it came to the test she would have math problems that we didn't even go through in the homework. She is not a teacher that will help you pass if you try hard. Her tests are timed and if you don't finish in time you get those questions wrong. Also, the tests are only 20 questions so it is easy to get a B/C.
Great class notes and corresponding assignments on line. Study these and you should do well on the tests. She is willing to meet with students and help them before class, after class and during pretty open ended office hours. We get our grades posted the day of the exam and she quickly responds to emails.
Favorite professor at SCF! Amazing! If you want to learn this is a must take class!
Very nice and respects her students. I recommend her class unless you are one to skip class and/or hate homework. The workload isn't crazy, she is reasonable. She cares a lot about her students and will go the extra mile to help you BEFORE a quiz or exam.
Very awesome professor. Passionate about her students and math and tries to lift spirits before each lecture. Has everyones best interest to pass but its the students job to attend every class to do well on each test and the final. Pop quizzes are given but notes are able to be used. Overall impressed and it was a pleasure to learn with her.
Very caring, will do anything to help you pass. Shes very sweet and has a few fun projects.
Kim is a terrible teacher & I had her online, can't imagine being in-class w/ her! She's rude, uncaring, & unhelpful. She doesn't follow through w/ what will be on exams from study guides, if she did I would've passed. She seems annoyed when asked any ?s. Made me feel stupid & I do well in other subjects. DON'T take her classes if weak in math!!!
Snarky comments when you ask questions and pretty much teach yourself the course I've never had a teacher make me feel so stupid She flies through everything and expects you to understand it all right then and there and doesn't take time to explain it. If you take this class then cling to your textbook because thats pretty much all you can rely on
Prof. Ghiselan is a tough professor but fair. It's achievable to receive an A in her class but not an easy A. She gives a ton of homework, but I think it's necessary in this class. My only issue was that she breezes through her lectures and there isn't often an opportunity for questions if you don't understand the material. She will say go to ARC.
Ms G is awesome. I am not a strong math student but she breaks it all down and gives great explanations. She grades fairly and is always willing to meet with you before class or during her office hours. She wants me to succeed and I like her enthusiasm.
I had seen good reviews for this teacher so I took her. I regret taking her class. I failed one of the last tests which dropped my grade from an A to a D meaning I did not pass the class. It was a very test heavy class. Take someone else instead especially if you struggle with math and are just trying to make it through.
I wasn't crazy about all of the group discussions. There is daily homework, weekly tests and large reviews, to confirm you are learning. My error was thinking that the reviews would be a reflection of the final and using them as my study guide. My suggestion is to PAY ATTENTION TO ALL DETAILS.
Kim explains the material, provides fill-in notes, and wants her students to succeed. When the course was forced to move online due to the pandemic, she explained in detail what we needed to do. Very compassionate and caring. She encourages us to "reach out to her" as soon as we need help. I am glad that I did. She was awesome.
I've never had a ruder teacher. Someone told me "you either love her or hate her". I've never been to college or taken online classes and she's been unhelpful throughout the experience. Super curt and sassy. I've needed help with the website a few times and she totally ignored what I needed help with. "As I stated last time" is her fav statement.
If I can tell you anything I will say do NOT put yourself in her class! She doesnt teach, you watch lectures from the 1990s. Very rude!! This woman does not care about anything you have to say! Condescending in every reply. Had to printout over a hundred pages do 2 math problems/page and scan them back to her! That was wasteful!
okay listen, do not take her class, she doesn't care about her students, I've emailed her a few times and her responses are always sassy and rude, not to mention you are on your own, she wont sent informational emails like other professors do, her assignment list is all over the place and you are going to be teaching yourself.
I thought this professor was caring and kind. Her lectures were in depth and was always very kind to students if they got something wrong or had a question
Kim always comes to class in a good mood and explains in easy to understand detail. Her notes are amazing and helpful for completing homework and studying for tests. I highly recommend her to everyone.
She's the best math professor I've ever had, and I've always been horrible at math. If you need someone to stop and explain things to you, she's your girl. Couldn't recommend her more.
Our professor went above and beyond to ensure we were able to reach out to her when we weren't sure of an answer, before, during and after hours. This quality gave me peace of mind knowing that I would not have to wait until the next class session to get clarification. I loved that she treated us like adults and enforced the syllabus.
She treats you like your in middle school, extremely snarky and just rude. The only aid you have are videos from the 90s and unhelpful email responses. If you like being on your own to figure it all out, take this class. This math class is set up in the most confusing way possible and theres 20 steps to everything you do. Avoid at all cost. 0/5.
She is so incredibly rude and snarky, I've never seen a professor so unprofessional in the past 3 years of being in college. She will call you out if you make a mistake anywhere. Seriously. Beware this teacher, she is nightmare. Be ready for a lot of self study, she is tough and very unforgiving for any reason.
Not professional. She wrote me a nasty email and when asked how to scan all documents into one file, she told me I need to know that and she was rude about helping. Never got the software for having one pdf file all in one so she took so much points off. Zipped file wouldn't work for her. Shes precise about what she wants.
I took miss g in person and she was so nice and relaxed compared to any professor ive ever had id say. I cant speak for her online, but shes super helpful and cares about you understanding the material in person. She knows the ins and outs of everything she teaches so that helped with any kind of questions I had. Pop quizzes.
It has always been challenging for me to do math, but this professor doesn't even make it a bit easier. Her grading system all but guarantees failure
Come prepared to class and you will succeed. Ask questions in class and also visit her during office hours. She stayed with me late one afternoon for almost two hours to help me understand and be prepared for test.
get ready to teach yourself & learn how to do problems on your own. unless you ask questions in class youre learning on your own. this professor is also rude..
I don't understand the comments from two previous raters -- her grading is definitely fair. She drops the lowest test grade if you complete your homework. She has never been rude in our class. I wonder what happened in your class? She also gives six quizzes and drops one quiz grade.
Do not recommend taking if you are enrolled in more than 3 classes because you will barely have time to do all the homework. You have to memorize everything for tests and there is homework due every class. Random homework quizzes (easy A if you do the work). Be prepared to put in the work. Do not miss class or you will fall behind.
Awful. No teaching involved. Just online textbook with lectures from the 90s. Printed out 100 papers to be scanned for notes. Had to show full work for 40 question exam and submit scanned papers. This class was not enjoyable.
She gives a lot of homework but if you understand it, its fairly easy and if you don't understand it she will take the time outside of class to help you. Can't speak for the online class though.
She has been nothing but delightful and helpful during a short summer class. She makes herself available at any time during the week. She does make you scan your test-work in for every test. Other than that, she was great. Exam reviews are helpful and is exactly what is on the test. The work load also wasn't crazy considering it was a short term.
Professor Ghiselin made it very easy to acess her outside of class times, her grading was very fair. And she had the perfect amount of homework, due before every class that way you were able to refresh yourself before class. Since online classes are not always ideal I feel she did a very good job.
If students miss any assignments it is virtually impossible to catch up. She does not allow students to open other sections if they don't score well and you cannot review missed material because of this. She is also unkind in general correspondence. Her grading system sets students up for failure and she is no help.
A fairly easy class but with no help from the prof. You'd be better off paying for Pearson on your own, learning, & then taking a math placement test. I had to pay the college to take this class, and then pay Pearson (MyLab) to have SOME ONE ELSE teach the material to me! Prof shouldn't be paid to look at my grades on a website & then enter them.
Uses honorlock! One night the my mathlab online platform was having technical issues so I could not complete my test. I contacted her and she gave a rude response about now its my fault because I waited tin the last minute (10:30pm because I had work) and I should read the instructions better next time.
I feel that the teacher does not understand how to properly conduct an online course. It is as though she is confused by technology. Also she is a tough grader. If you put something down even before the due date she will grade that and then tell you you just need to be tutored. Instead of offering actual insight herself.
Insulted me the very first day of class, was extremely rude on the first interaction. Dropped and switched professors due to her lack of professionalism!
Ms. Kim was nothing short of awesome with our class. We worked in groups, had a take home test due to the hurricane, ate M & M's, fair tests after good reviews, etc. She is also really understanding when you meet with her in her office for extra help and that one on one time was well worth it. I would highly recommend her for precalculus.
Yes, take her for PreCalculus Algebra class. She uses notes that she made as she explains each section. You have homework on both MyLab Math and from the e-text but it gets you prepared for her tests. Very approachable and easy to talk as well.
This teacher cares and will help you. I wish she had MGF1107 this semester.
Met with her in person to review for test. I have never had another professor willing to do this for an online class. Also, her review videos are helpful.
Get ready to do at least six hours worth of work Monday to Sunday. You will do multiple chapters of work from multiple books a day and still possibly fall behind. She also is incredibly inept with computers and FORCES you to install honor lock onto your browser, which is almost certainly not something you want on your browser.
Everything you need to know is in the MyLab videos. If you find math an easy subject, you can finish a whole unit in a day. I took the 8-week course and found it very easy, only issue was that she has the tests under honor lock, makes us do a discussion post for every chapter (which I find unnecessary), and makes us scan our work for tests.
Professor Ghiselin was extremely approachable from the day I met her. She was always willing to work with me around my schedule, and her notes and lectures were very understandable. I really enjoyed this course and am glad I had Professor Ghiselin.
Don't do it, do not listen to these people. She is nice but it's a lot of work and tests for a lower level college math. She does not accept late work, and occasionally gives you an attitude, she is known for being a stricter professor. I took it online and regretted it, it sucked.
She has homework due 30 min before class the day of, so i would literally go to Starbucks before class and do the super easy homework. Yes she is strict but only if you show up to class not caring about being there. Tests are easy if you pay attention and do the work, just like how every other college class is.
I struggle with math and she is such a great teacher. Very helpful and gives second tries. Allows 2 exams to be open note
She teaches so fast and she wants you to teach yourself. She also gives so much homework, pop quizzes, and only 30 minutes for tests which is very difficult for slow test takers like myself. She will randomly call on people, and then make them feel stupid if they don't know what to do.
Ms. Ghiselin is a really caring math teacher who helps you grasp the basics of 1106, but at times she can go a bit quick, and it can be difficult to keep up with the lecture. She also has you print out 40 papers at the beginning of the course so that you can follow along with the material. Every grade is important in the class so do your best.
Uses both MyLab and e-text problems but that has been good for me as it helps to prepare for writing out work on tests. I met with her during her office time and she was very helpful.
This professor may be rated harshly, but thats only because this is a math class. Mrs. Ghiselin is a great professor that is willing to answer questions, but you just have to ask them because she moves very fast. If you do not have a college algebra background, this class will be very difficult as she expects you to know and remember that material
Professor Ghiselin was amazing and tries to help you if you are confused. She gives pop quizzes but allows you to use any notes on them. Tests are easy if you study and do the homework and pay attention in class. Final exam is exactly like previous tests and she gives a super helpful review the week before. I would definitely recommend
Prepare yourself to be met with a snarky attitude whenever you ask a question about something that is NOT included in the syllabus. Professor Ghiselin expects students to ask about topics that she never explains in a document and if you do not, you will be told that you should have asked her sooner. She is incredibly rude and unhelpful.
Very tough grader. The way she teaches her info just doesn't make sense. She makes you print out these long lessons that are like 60 pages long so you can follow along in class. If you don't print them out you have to copy them all in your notebook and she doesn't give you enough time to write everything because shes writing on the print out version.
Rude and makes you feel stupid when you don't know the answers to stuff. Snarky and mean when you have questions on why she gave you points off on questions. Very tough grader and doesn't give you any credit for showing work.
She sticks to the syllabus so I knew from day one what to expect. Her lectures and tests line up and she gives good reviews in MyLab. Others complain about the homework, but this is college algebra so I expected homework. I am a more mature student so perhaps I am looking at the course differently.
One of the best professors I've ever had, she truly cares about her students. Her tests are made in a way that really shows whether you understood the material or not, no trick questions or hoping students lose points. Online textbook questions are helpful, especially test reviews. Overall fantastic, you will not regret taking her!
She was great at explaining the algebra in a way that I could understand. A few times I met with her outside of class and she even explained it to me a different way when I needed it. Also, she replied to emails with lots of information. I wish she was teaching pre-calculus in the fall because I want to take her again!
Have not finished her class yet but she is not the right professor for me and makes learning math difficult.
Her behavior when someone asks a question is a bit snarky and she moves really fast when she assumes you know how to do a problem. Also, the assignments in my lab aren't due on the same days every week, they're mainly due on weekdays. Overall, I would've been better off getting a tutor to teach the material and taking an online class.
Mrs. G wants to help you succeed. Her class lectures are good and she uses notes so you can concentrate on the algebra concept and still go home with good notes. She replies to emails and is willing to help outside of the classroom. Her tests are fair and cover what is covered in class and on the homework. Homework is graded on quizzes.
She has the course set up and allows you to work ahead. Took this during fast summer but was able to complete with an A.
She is not a nice person one. She will take any opportunity to make you feel inadequate even if you apologize for missing an assignment. She is very catty and rude. Also beware that if you don't take the final exam you fail the entire class, no matter what your grade is after the exam.
great caring professor, probably the easiest online math class I've taken due to her set up and the resources she provides, she is also a very forgiving teacher. she understanding how the online canvas and Pearson set up is to be used and did not have any issues with this professor.
Professor Ghiselin has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. Attend lectures, use the free textbook, and try Unstuck ai alongside other study tools. It's a challenging course, but with effort, you can succeed.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. This professor does not give any free passes, so be sure you are never sick or have an emergency. She is honestly rude and condescending. Math is already a subject I struggle with and being in this class did not help. Do yourself a favor and pick a different professor.
Professor Ghiselin wasn't hard to understand but she can be fast paced. NO phones allowed! She does pop quizzes and expects you to do at-least 40 more questions from the book on top of mymathlab. Also, if you fail the final she will give you a 0 on it even if you received a 59 :). She also tends to make smart regards to students.
Professor Ghiselin was very tough but is easy to reach out to and is always willing to help. No phones and assigns lots of work as well as quizzes, but she really helped me understand the material, you just have to really put in the work.
I never interacted with her much but I honestly thought this course wouldve been more numbers than anything. I had alot of homework and alot of projects which I personally didn't like. I prefer more algebra classes and I also think the textbook has a terrible way of describing and explaining things. I wouldve failed if it wasn't for turtoring.
Professor Ghiselin enjoys teaching and is enthusiastic. Be ready for class and have your phones put away. Her tests are very fair, but she gives homework on line and from the textbook. Show your work!
This new math class is good. I enjoyed the games and projects because I am not good at math tests and the projects boosted my grade. Visit her in her office and she will help you with the projects too!
I wouldn't recommend her, comments she makes towards students are passive aggressive and kind of make you feel not smart. You can't miss anything, she just puts it in as a zero. Not accommodating whatsoever. I'm still in the class and if I could switch out and get a refund I would.
Fun math class - her projects were interesting and we played games in class. You did need to complete the homework to learn the lessons but she is available to help you in her office and she replies to emails everyday.
God awful teacher takes away heavy points for the smallest mistakes, doesn't help her students much and instead makes you figure out everything on your own. Shes super heavy on the homework but hardly gives any time to actually do it. I never want to be in her class ever again
I took this course with another person last semester and had to withdraw. Miss Kim made the class more interesting and her grading was clear and fair.
Took this class over summer for 6 weeks online. I've always struggled with math; this class gave me confidence! Be prepared for several writing projects. The Pearson math app showed each homework problem step by step, which I loved. Prof Ghiselin answered my emails promptly and always offered help along the way. If I can do it, you can do it!
every project i completed i received the rudest remark from her and she would dock SO many points, for what seemed to be her opinion over the actual work provided. I WORKED so hard to get a B because my life is based off of my grades, literally.
Gives good feedback and genuinely seems to enjoy teaching. Make sure to follow the instructions for projects. All of the questions in the homework have unlimited attempts. The tests are short and easy.
Ms. Kim cares and will meet with you in her office. The feedback I have received is great so I don't understand the prior comment by another person. I am not great at math so I was happy to do projects in this class. I could take my time and not stress. I hope to earn an A or possibly a B.
Very easy class but would not recommend for people who don't already have a good foundation in algebra, she deducts very little things on tests, assigns way too much homework and pop quizzes (they are easy tho) , tests are way easier than any of the homework, shes an ok teacher
The classwork is a much, but it was EASY! I did enjoy the subject of the class. The professor was okay. She is very strict with attendance; cell phone usage of any kind will not be tolerated. She teaches in a fast pace and lowkey passive aggressive in my opinion. She is sweet sometimes though just do not get too comfortable.
She likes to teach a lesson and at the end of class give a pop quiz, which is open notes but not easy. She tends to be passive aggressive and one time I told her my glasses broke and I couldnt see the board I asked if i could pull up the notes on my laptop as i was already close to the board, she said no and gave a pop quiz at the end of class...
Very rude and inconsistent in her grading of projects. You could've done everything right in the rubric, and she would still dock points. Would never retake anything of hers. I earned an A, but dealing with her was not worth it.
Email her if you are too shy to talk during class as she replies faster and better than most professors.
She was great at explaining concepts clearly.
She was very clear about what was expected. Good grader, we used Pearson textbook. Tests are honorlock. Projects are straightforward. Took 8 week course
