Pretty good teacher. Likes to have fun in her lectures and adds humor to the class. Doesn't like whispering conversations in the back of the classroom. Material is average in difficulty. Just take good notes and pay attention in class and you'll do fine.

I did not want to take this class at all. I am glad that I did. She is a Great teacher. I came in with the attitude that Sociology is the “gross overstatement of the obvious”, and came to understand it as a science. She is clear, cleaver, humorous, and works with the material in a very everyday manor. I can not give her enough praise.

Class consists largely of discussion, but she maintains the focus. Keeps tight control of the class without censoring; she directs the discussion without controlling it. Discussion is always provocative and relevant, inspiring me to go home and follow-up.

Could have cared less about the class just taking it as elective, but wow awesome teacher has fun and gives great notes will probably take another soc elective

BEST class I've taken at PVCC. This woman is a genius. You can clearly tell she loves the subject she teaches, and her enthusiasm rubs off on everyone. Amazing discussions, provocative questions, loved every moment. It's not all easy, but the material is interesting enough that you actually *want* to study. 8 page paper was crazy though.

Perfect professor. Funny, engaging, smart, organized, passionate. Makes class enjoyable and a real group learning experience -- classroom discussion is relevant and stimulating. Material is complex at times so it's by no means an 'easy A', but if you have any interest in SOC and pay attention and take notes, there's no reason not to do well.

Hoosier is an EXCELLENT professor that is fun and easy to listen to. When an exam comes along, it's hard to stop writing on the short answer and essay questions because when Hoosier lectures, it sticks!

Class discussions are engaging and the topics make you question society. Write what she writes on the board in a notebook and study it for A's on tests. The final project requires effort but it's great fun.

I had no interest in this class, but she made it so interesting that I was sad when the last day came! She's so funny and keeps the class engaged. I recommend this class to everyone.

Dr. Hoosier is an excelent professor. She makes learning sociology interesting and fun. She is prosonable and professional and CARES about teaching and CARES that you learn and do well in the class! That is important.

Took principles of sociology online with her. I've heard she's great in person, but the online class is SUPER easy. Just do the assignments, discussion boards, and read, and you'll be fine grade-wise!

One of the most engaging and interactive teachers I've ever had. I always looked forward to her class. She is the epitome of who I want to be in the future.

Kim is amazing! I am taking the class she's teaching at UVA right now, on Sociology in "The Wire", and she's found a way to make the best, most interesting TV show of all time even more interesting! She works so hard to help everyone understand the material and connect it properly, and she's very helpful when it comes to paper-related questions.

Kim is an awesome teacher. She makes the class enjoyable and fun, and her way of explaining things makes it easy to understand. I also like that her grading is by numbers, not names, so it's completely fair.

An exemplary human being & a fantastic professor & teacher. Her lectures are very entertaining and she made me laugh out loud daily with her humor. Her tests are NOT easy and you will write an insane amount of material in an hour if you want an A on one. She gives you every opportunity to succeed in her class. I only wish she would record lectures.

Very good teacher! She's very good at getting to the point and explaining things so that people can understand them. She helps you when needed and is an overall nice person. Even if you have no interest in sociology, you'll have no problems with this professor.

Ms. Hoosier is a wonderful teacher and I got an A in her class but I must address something, all of these juvenile comments about her looks must be discouraged and removed. Her beauty or lack of beauty has nothing to do with her being a fantastic teacher. To those reading this, take her class/es if you really want to fully understand Sociology.

I highly recommend the class and the professor. Tips for success: Take good notes during lecture, write a couple of sentences that express the main idea of each article on its cover page (this will help you at test time), also highlight two key quotes from each article (again test), ask questions, and DON'T PROCRASTINATE ON YOUR WRITING ASSIGNMENT.

She is a beautiful, energetic and amazing person. Tests are all written and you will have bad hand cramps by the end of them. If you take notes and pay attention in class the A is yours for the taking. Very awesome subject.

One of the best professors I've ever had. She went over the course material really well and she has a great personality. The tests are mostly writing, but as long as you keep up with reading and take good notes in class, you should be fine.

I took Principle of Soc. Spring 2011. I failed this class but it was my fault. I don't hold it against her I just never studied and the paper and tests were hard for me. But I enjoyed the lectures b/c it made me look at things differently. She is not a good prof. she's a GREAT prof. VERY passionate about soc and shares it with you. Funny too!!

Dr. Hoosier is amazing. She is incredibly knowledgeable about her field and her passion in obvious in class. She does assign a fair amount work, but as long as you keep up with it and DON'T LEAVE THE PAPER TILL THE VERY END, it is reasonable. Her lectures are funny and interesting and will make you want to go change the world. Seriously.

She is AMAZING. Best class I have ever taken. It is impossible to be bored during her lectures. Every class gives you a brand new perspective on at least one thing you haven't thought about before. Taking another one of her classes next semester. Study hard and do the review sheets and you'll be fine.

REALLY easy class! Just some quizzes here and there and a weekly set of discussion board questions. On the midterm and final, I was really worried but her grading seem really relaxed! I got an A+!

While this subject is not easy, Professor Hoosier makes it understandable, and sometimes even fun. Pertinent materials, outside the text, coupled with her willingness to explain in more detail - in class or out of class - make this a 'must take' class!

Mrs. Hoosier was one of my favorite teachers this semester! I took Psychology in high school and I did not enjoy it, but I loved this branch of the overall topic. She is always there to help you, very clear and loves when you ask questions. Come to class and you will be fine! Lots of note taking but its better than reading from the textbook.

I had Kim at both PVCC and UVa and I can honestly say that she is an amazing professor. She is extremely accommodating and honestly worries about her students and the subject she teaches. Only wish I could take another class with her.

I adore Professor Hoosier. I've taken every single one of her classes at PVCC. Didn't do too hot in any of them, but I thoroughly enjoyed them all. She's funny, passionate, understanding, and just amazing! She's definitely a tough grader and you WILL have a lot of reading. Also, her idea of a "not long paper" is 7-10 pages. Regardless, take her!

Professor Hoosier is hands-down the best professor Ive ever had. Every class is a lecture, however I cant rememeber a single time I was bored during one. Her teaching style engages people in the class, keeping lectures lighthearted and interesting. Theres one long paper, and 3 exams. They arent too easy, but read the textbook and youll do fine

Hoosier is phenomenal. She expects you to come to class prepared, but if you do the work her class will be endlessly rewarding. Her lectures are engaging, knowledgable, and oftentimes hilarious. She's happy to help if you reach out. Her expecatations are high, but this is easily one of the best classes I've taken at PVCC.

Dr. Hoosier is one of the best profs I have ever had. She makes soc so fun, relevant, and easy. I am more of a science person but she makes anyone consider majoring in soc. Love her enthusiasm and realness about subjects that really matter. Tests are not hard if you take notes and look at the sheet she gives beforehand. Fun classes where you learn.

Hoosier is fantastic, I've had her for 2 sociology classes and both were beyond any expectations. Everyone loves her because she's sweet, upbeat, cares about subject matters, is stern without being too much, hilarious, thoughtful, all that. She's a natural-born teacher for sure.

I took this class as my socialscience elective for my major and it was the best decision ever! It is like walking into a comedy show every single time. She has article quizzes, writing heavy tests, and exams. I wished I hadn't bought the textbook, she will go over the chapters in class. Study your notes and you will get an A!

Greatest professor at PVCC

Favourite professor of all time, she makes you laugh every class and keeps the content engaging and interesting. Her classes have a number of articles that you will have to read but you could honestly skip the textbook. Make sure to take good notes and study for them, and be prepared to write a lot for the tests. 10/10

Kim is such a great teacher, really engaging and clear in her material. She is super flexible! I work full-time nights at a hospital so I couldn't make every class, and she was very understanding. Sociology isn't my favorite topic but she made it interesting. If you go to most lectures and know how to google it's an easy B at the least.

Hands down the best professor I've had since I started school. Super down-to-earth, funny, & despite learning about all the effed-up shenanigans that went/goes on in our country, Hoosier just makes you feel less anxious by the time you're dismissed from class. But definitely inspires & motivates you to get involved in reforming our laws & systems.

Professor Hoosier was amazing with lectures and really knows how to keep you involved in every group discussion and your participation does matter. There are Pop quizzes that you should take seriously, but as long as you study and take decent notes in the class you'll be prepared.

Easily one of the best professors I've had. She is smart, funny, easy to talk to, and wants to see you succeed. If you pay attention and take part in the class lectures and discussions, as well as reading the textbook, you will pass the exams and the class. There are three exams, a few multiple choice quizzes, and one research paper (lit review).

A passionate, humorous professor with an entertaining, hands-on class. Read the textbook & articles, as she'll question you on what you read. Can be a bit snarky, but w/good reason—you must behave, arrive on time, & participate. Tests are mild, as everything on them is from what she writes on the board. By far my favorite class this semester!

Kim Hoosier has been one of my favorite professor so far. The learning environment is very discussion focuses and she often gets the entire class discussing topics. Quizes and tests are easy as long as you pay attention in each class, and complete all of the readings. Overall 10/10
