Very good teacher
Difficult exams
The best acc 221 professor here. Tests are really easy, and she helps you understand the material. No homework.

She is a very good teacher. Her tests are not very hard if you read and know how to do the problems. She helps you if you need help, she doesn't give homework but she gives you quizes.Overall the best one for ACC 221.
Good teacher, always giving you opportunities to ask questions about stuff you don't get. Tends to make accounting harder than it is though, overexplanatory if you will. Does not give homework, make tests easy enough.
Good teacher to take - explains everything and tests aren't too bad...
Exams are difficult.
exams are ok, very nice but night class is way too long for accounting...good class overall
Good lady. Lectures aren't that bad and the tests are sort of hard. But it also depends on how hard you study. The final is half new stuff and half cumulative. I am taking her again for ACC 222.
She's a nice lady... but she makes accounting very difficult. You're only graded on 3 tests. I didn't study for the first one... then studied my ass of for the last one... and got the same grade! i just didnt like the teaching style...
She was a good teacher. She explained very well. Tests were hard though. You kind of have to expect hard tests with accounting though. I've had Lostetter and Johnson, for 221 and 222. Lostetter was better but Johnson was still really good.
Very good teacher but she can be unclear at times. Be sure to study from the tests! I took her for 221 and am taking her again for 222. Good overall teacher.
She is a straight shot teacher. She teaches exactly what is in the book. You read the chapter before class, it will be taught next class. Key to class with Johnson...read each chapter thouroghly (it doesn't take that much time), and do the suggested problems...she goes over them in class.
She makes accounting pretty easy, we do extra extra credit in class. Thursday, night class and its not even that bad. I think she is very clear about what will be on tests, and I'd suggest her for 222.
I thought she did a good job teaching. The class was super easy as long as you went to class and did the homework. Exams were easy too as long as you did a little studying. Overall, she was really clear about what needed to be done.
quizes are easy, class is boring as hell. Test can be unexpected. Be able to go in reverse forwards backwards with the types of problems. Responds to anything you send her. Helpful when available
This professor only gives grades based on exam scores. If you are not able to put in hours and hours reading the text to keep up in her class you will not do well on the exams. I am withdrawing from the class and taking a different prof next semester. She is a nice lady, but students need more direction (more points to be earned, graded HMW etc).
made it soo much easier to understand than my previous professor. she's really clear and easy to understand. :)
Her name is now Mrs. Lyons. Her class is pretty easy. The grade is based only on your tests.
Probably the easiest teacher I've had in a long time. I never cracked the book open once, and I only once got less than an A on an exam. Coveys the material well and clearly; if you can't understand, it's probably you.
She is a very helpful professor and really wants us to understand the material. You learn lots of life lessons, but it's really off topic from what's on the exams. READ THE BOOK before the exams, and you'll do okay. If you're an acc major- take her.
This is the prof to take if you're an ACC major. If not, and you just need it for business, maybe try someone else. Your grade is based on 4 tests, so if you bomb one it's difficult to come back from. Read the book. A lot.
amazing professor. great clairity especially for those with no ACC background. helpful and very detailed. tests are hard, but managable. She loves coffee.
Ms. Lyons is a really good teacher...she actually teaches which is rare for an accounting professor...you do have to pay attention and go to class. Tests are somewhat hard, but just study a lottt.
very good teacher, she really lets you know the meaning behind what you are doing, and not just the process. Take her, i signed up with her again
Ms. Lyons is really nice. Probably won't be your best friend, but willing to help you with whatever you are having trouble with. Not the easiest accounting teacher, but really good if you need to go further in accounting. Would recommend.
Professor Lyons is a great teacher. She teaches fairly tough material but does a good job, and has opportunities for extra credit. The lectures are boring, but the subject matter is boring. She's very helpful and is willing to meet for help. Attendance isn't necessary which is also nice.
Professor Lyons is awesome at what she does. She makes it clear as to what you need to know for the exams so nothing is really a surprise. Just do all the problems assigned on the syllabus and make sure you understand everything on the powerpoint slides and you'll do fine
Good Teacher. Kept everything clear. She wasn't the most captivating person and lectures could be boring but lets face it learning about accounting is way less interesting than the work itself.
She was a good professor. I liked her a lot. Exams are easy, if you go to class and do the problems that she gives you from the textbook. She was definately very helpful also.
I had her the semester she was getting divorced so maybe she had an off semester but I really didnt think she was a good prof. at all, she never really taught she would just go over examples which makes it difficult to truly learn something. Tests were difficult as well but I think that is because I wasn't as prepared as I could have been.
Took her for both 221 and 222. You get what you put into this class. Go to class, take notes and do the problems she assigns and you should do well. She goes over every problem in class and as long as you know how to do them, you should do well on the exams. The multiple choice problems can get tricky so make sure you know how to do the problems.
Not sure how she has such a good rating. Worse professor I have had EVER. Does not teach, she is not approachable and will not help students (often). Inconsistent grading, no feedback on homework or exams. DO NOT TAKE!!!!
I don't know if she just had an off semester, but I know my entire class did not like her or her teaching style. She isn't very approachable with questions. Her grading is pretty inconsistent. Also, the many quiz questions were on things never mentioned in class. Overall, she was a poor professor. Avoid taking her if yo can.
She's a nice lady, but the class was very hard. I worked my *** off and got a BC, my friends all got C's. The quiz's are next to impossible to get a good grade. She doesn't curve anything or offer extra credit. Take Sherony for 221.
I thought this class was decently easy. If I would have studied and used the book more I prob would have gotten an A. Half the exam is in class and it's exactly like problems you go over in class. The other half is online and kind of hard. Assignments can be tough so ask q's in class. You get what you put in. No curve.
Great professor. Explains everything so clearly it doesn't seem hard. Exams aren't terrible and neither are assignments. Big group project but its pretty easy. Dry sense of humor. Take her!
Explains things pretty clearly. Does all practice problems and lots of examples. Would recommend for 221 and 222
Kim was a good professor who knew her stuff about Accounting. However, when it came to the end of the semester, she rushed through the lessons and her final exam (which was on those topics) was very difficult and ridiculous - definitely left a resonating feeling of dislike for her. If it hadn't been for that final, I would've liked he
Lyons is very to the point. Class is all practice problems. As long as you put some time into the class you'll do fine. I would suggest taking her for 221, 222, or 321.
She is very on point. She gives you the information and a lot of class is doing practice problems. She seems kind of crabby sometimes, but I think she gets frustrated when people skip and then don't know what's going on.
She is very nice! The test is easy if u review well.Everything is on point for the test.Final is so easy!I recommend take her!
If you learn by examples, take her. If you learn by lecture/powerpoint, then don't. Presents the material in a way so that you don't HAVE to read the textbook. Unlimited practice quizzes per chaper and good, steady pace (some think it's fast). She definitely knows her stuff and is a good advisor too if you ever have questions.
She is very helpful and goes over only relevant material nothing more nothing less. She can be dull but she is strictly business. I would recommend her for accounting.
Was not looking forward to taking this class. She has online quizzes for each chapter and you get unlimited attempts on them, but they are difficult. Rarely any homework, and tests are straightforward. Did not care for her, but is very knowledgable about the material.
I loved her. Yes, it is difficult subject matter, and yes she expects a lot out of you, but at the end of the course you realize how much you have learned. She is a pretty easy grader, if you can demonstrate the concept but use the wrong number she doesn't take off too many points. I would take her again!
Overall I liked her class much better than 221. We had tests like every other week but they only covered two chapters at a time which was much easier on me. I never went to her office hours because she just seemed unapproachable. all the multiple choice questions on the tests are taken directly from the online quizzes.
Kim is a really good professor. She intially comes off as unapproachable, but she's actually super helpful if you ask questions in class, through email or go to her office hours. Take D2L quizzes multiple times and you'll do well on her tests. I really like her and plan to take her again for ACC 321.
Worst. Professor. Ever. If you don't like accounting, or struggle with it, do NOT take her. All she does is examples, never really explains anything. I have no idea how her ratings are this high. I studied my butt off for the first exam and still failed it. No extra credit. Might as well teach yourself the material.
May seem unapproachable, but I went to her office hours to get help and she was so helpful and willing explain! She is a very kind person. First exam was difficult, but the rest are not that hard, you just have to study. You get infinite tries on quizzes, which are helpful in studying for the exams. Project isn't bad either. I would recommend her!
She works fast, but that's standard with any ACC professor. The content of the course is naturally difficult so expect to put in time. It's a 4 credit course with class 4 days a week and the 5th day only used for tests. She may come off intimidatingnever happy, but she is a very nice lady if you go in and talk with her. Tests are like HW examples.
One of the better professors I have ever had. Teaches a hard class in Intermediate Accounting and manages to explain the material very clearly. Would highly recommend.
Tax class itself is dreaded so she did her best to make a dry matter alright. Unfortunately, she doesn't make lecture that interesting because her voice is relatively monotone which doesn't help when learning a subject such as tax. Tests were tough just because there are so many different situations that can occur and it's hard to prepare for them.
Very knowledgeable about the subject. She explains course content well.
One of the best professors I have had in college. Does a great job of clarifying material and is there for you if you have additional questions. Highly recommend her for all classes that she teaches.
Kim is an excellent teacher. She knows the material well, and she explains everything in a way that is as simple as it can be for students. She's not very personable in class, but she's by far the best professor I've had at UW-L. Highly recommended.
Awesome teacher. If you want to be an accountant you have to take her.
Lyons is probably one of the best accounting profs at UWL. She is clear in what she expects from you, and lets you know what will be on the tests for the most part. Explanations are pretty clear, and she goes through a ton of examples. Definitely have to put a significant amount of outside time in, but that goes for any ACC course. Would recommend.
She is the best professor I have had for an accounting class so far at UW-L. Her lectures coupled with reading the book will definitely prepare you for the test. ACC 321 is a tough class and there are a lot of tough concepts but I felt she did the best job of explaining them to us compared to other accounting professors.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. She does not teach the material, literally just does examples out of the textbook. She's not friendly as does not take the time to talk to students. I did not learn anything the whole semester from her, had to teach everything to myself. DO NOT take her, you will regret it.
I took this as an online summer class & it was a horrible decision. I heard good things about this professor but you are 100% on your own for the online class. unless you're amazing at teaching yourself don't take this class online. there's tons of work and i still feel like i know nothing.
If you're an accounting major, you should absolutely take Kim for this class. She doesn't make it easy, but she'll make sure you learn what you need to. Your grade is heavily weighed by tests, so you need to put in the work to study in order to do well. Dr. Lyons is a bit intimidating, but she definitely knows her stuff.
Professor Lyons is kind, professional and knowledgeable, but can seem a bit condescending or rude. She teaches the subject well and makes the class easy if you show up. The majority of your grade, 85% I believe, is made up of three exams and the final. She doesn't curve grades or offer extra credit, so make sure you don't forget about cengage.
Goes through material then immediately goes to examples from the book that cover the material so it is clear what is being taught. Tests are a big part of the grade but aren't hard if you pay attention in class.
Overall a great professor. Makes things easy to understand with lots of examples. Grade made up of 3 exams, a final, and D2L chapter homework. Attend class and pay attention and you will be fine
I definitely recommend Lyons if you're an accounting major. The class is very difficult and requires a lot of work, but she goes over several examples during class. Exams were difficult, start studying for them earlier than just a day before. She also requires you to go to three professional development events or she drops your grade half a letter.
I know some people don't love Kim but the truth is she is one of the best accounting professors at UWL because you actually learn something from her class. She makes you work really hard for your grade but I learned so much from her.
This class is tough. No question about that. With this said however, this is a class you will actually learn something from. She is one of the best professor's I have had here at UWL. If you expect this to be an easy class, don't take her - you will fail. Also do not be discouraged to go to her office hours - she is helpful!
would not recommend Kim Lyons again to anyone taking her during covid/online. She doesnt do online synchronized lectures but has videos made instead for you to learn on your own. The vids are short & dont explain much. doesnt do a good job during the vids showing work and explain what shes talking about. Be ready to learn on your own. Str8up.
Was very unimpressed with her teaching throughout the semester.
She is very serious but gives very good information regarding the class. Very open to questions too. Her tests are pretty hard and the homework can be really difficult but it's a really good class to have under you belt.
She is a very smart lady, knows the course materials very well and demonstrates that clearly. However she did not do a great job translating the material in a way that made it interesting to learn, and was very specific on homework and exam questions. I have learned more in my higher level accounting classes about 311 than I ever learned from her.
She is awful. Way to much homework and the homework doesn't even count for that much of your grade. The exams and assignments are impossible.
Worst profesor i have had at uwl. Class is graded by a few exams and homework barley moves your grade. Average test scores for our class were below 67 for each exam and we had no curve and nothing to help boost grade. Not good at teaching accounting and just writes on the board very fast and barley explains anything. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. Her attitude in general puts me in a bad mood and makes me not want to go to her class. Grade is made up of 3 HARD tests and she wont curve them despite class average of 59%. Other professors will at least give you the 50 equations she expects you to memorize. She should have stayed in retirement.
Kim Lyons will explain very little with very high expectations of her classes. On the first day, she told us proudly that multiple of us would not pass her class. She expects all her students to understand accounting at her level and explains nothing. Class averages for exams were all around 60% and she gives nothing else to help your grade.
Dont listen to good reviews. She came out of retirement & is evil. She wont curve grades and test averages were a 60%. Homework takes forever & doesn't move your grade AT ALL. All she does is write on the board fast and doesnt explain it. If she is your only option wait til next semester to take 222 or you will just have to drop it and retake it.
she was awful at teaching and she does not care about her students. Most of our class is failing and she does not care. I think she likes to see us fail. take Recep hes way better.
Kim Lyons is a grumpy old woman that hates her life. This reflects back onto her students. She is constantly talking about when she was in college and how she did things back in the day. Sorry, but that was nearly 50 years ago. She doesn't curve even when average is under 70%. We get no cheat sheet while nearly every other accounting 222 class does
I don't usually leave reviews, but I am not a fan of her and this class. Her exams are worth over 76% of your grade and she does not curve them or do test corrections on top of how hard it is to retain all the information she poorly goes over since there is no PowerPoints. HW is worth very little and very time consuming. Find someone else.
The bad reviews on here for Kim are from non-accounting major CBA students that are just trying to pass this class. Yes, her exams are hard and she doesn't curve with a 65% average but as an Accounting major Kim is one of the best professors I've ever had and I've learned so much from her. Non-Accounting Major: HUGE NO. Accounting Major: HUGE YES.
Just have to take good notes
