Knows her stuff! Very helpful! A wise choice!
Great professor. Good english. No free rides. Very fair and helpful.
She is one of the worst teacher at SJCC. She doen't know the stuff well. Unorganized, lazy teacher. Bad teacher but the tests are hard and she grades hard, too. Don't take her class.
Bad teacher. Doesn't know the stuff well. I don't know how can the school pays for such bad teacher. Tests are hard. i don't recommend taking her class.
Bad teacher. I didn't learn anything from her. She didn't know organic chemistry well. just wondering how comes the school let her teach this class. Very bad teacher. Tests are extremely hard. Don't take her class.
I love chemistry, so I switched from bio to chem major.I had all A's in my chem classes, until i took this class. She is not very knowledgable of organic chemistry, a very important part of my major.Normally she teachesgenchem. She is not understanding,I was hit by another truck & had whip lash and had to go to emergency and she would nottakemyprelab.
She is unknowledgeabe of organic chemistry. she doesn't know the stuff very well. Sometimes she can't explain clearly what students are asking her. I don't recommend taking her for organic chemistry. Bad teacher
Class is usually bombarded with lecture but lecture is easy to understand. She is helpful especially when you have questions. Come to class, do the homework and you're sure to pass. She's a decent professor, needs some polishing, other than that, easy to work with.
Good teacher. She is helpful if you have any questions/concerns. Organic chemistry is a difficult subject in general, but she will definitely help you learn. Take this class if you want to actually LEARN the material. Overall I had a good experiance.
I didn't expect an easy class, and it wasn't. However, Prof. Nguyen is an excellent lecturer, and I found her explanations very clear. When I needed help, and she made time to help me. Emails were always returned in a reasonable time. She was always available in office hours, and often made extra time for students.
Professor Kim Nguyen was a very good teacher. She was very fair. Every time I asked her a question, she was very helpful to me. She wanted all of her students to learn the subject very good. She was as good as my current chemistry professor at San Jose State University. I recommend her as a great chemistry professor.
she is a good teacher, she help me not only about lecture in her class, also about some stuff in organic class. i chose my major in chemistry after i took her class.
Dr.Kim was knowledgeable and helful because she's always willing to help and answer my questions when I was in her class. I am math tutor in San Jose City College, but i am able to help chemistry student sometimes because the knowledge i learned from Dr.Kim. I would recommend Dr.Kim for any student who just learns chemistry and wants to be good at
A lot of work in her class, lecture is nice and clear. Professor is really nice and helpful. As long as you go to class and do your work, you'll be just fine.
She dosent do too well in teaching but if you don't understand any of the lecture, go to her office hours and she help alot! her tests have typos 90% of the time but other then that their neutral in easiness depending on your background. Other then that shes vary nice and would recommend her even though she does not teach too well, overall is okay.
she's not an O.Chem professor; Her field is general chemistry. To pass her class, Just: do the homework assigned, read the chapter before and after her lectures, attend class everyday (covers a lot of material in one day; you know...Its a fast paste course), Do ALL labs, go to her office hours (She's very helpful teacher). KeyPoint: STUDY, STUDY!!!
you learn nothing in her class.she can't even teach without her notes.
Straightforward, pace is faster than the first semester. She is very nice, and especially helpful in office hours. Problems oriented, and writes tests to reflect standardized tests like the MCAT. People may complain, but it's actually good practice. Grading is flexible. B is possible if you keep up, A requires you study the material in depth.
very kind teacher
She's a terrific prof, always willing to help. test is base on MCAT, hw, practice, practice and u will do well. go to her office hour for help
Worst professor Ive ever had! She gets irritated if you dont understand the material right away. She sighs and rolls her eyes when she feels you are asking too many questions. Shes always available for office hours but her bad attitude can be discouraging. She also talks really fast and often has no time for questions during class time.
Dr. Nguyen was mean to her students and would even yell at them during her office hours. Dr. Nguyen is very impatient and rude to students. This teacher knows her stuff, but she should not be teaching. Dr. Nguyen tests are very hard and the workload is heavy in her course. The book she used was also very bad and was even missing a chapter.
She is the greatest professor I've hard, and extremely helpful...
Helpful and sociable. If you don't understand something she'll help you out and wants her students to succeed. Only issues are that when drop dates come she stuffs in a lot of material into a test to allow students to drop if needed. That truly messes with the learning experience. Tests are structured poorly to make mistakes hit harder than needed.
Dr. Kim is a nice teacher but often gets irritated. Her tests have good amounts of mistakes that could be a problem. Overall, she did try to make the class fun, interesting, and easier.
Dr kim is a horrible teach. She doesnt understand the ochem topics and just lectures from the book. She talks non stop so you cant ask questions. She often gets confused doing problems in class. Fight for your grade, she will mark multiple choice as incorrect when they arent. Trust the book when her lectures (mechanisms) dont match it. Good luck.
got an A... mistakes in lecture mislead you all the way until the exams. make sure you double check your book before committing to memorizing something from class. she's usually nice but sometimes gets frustrated with students.
She's a very nice and supportive person but focuses too much on overall memorizing rather than understanding mechanisms.
She is VERY helpful. If you ask questions, you will give great answers. However, she has an attitude problem even though she answers your questions. She talks to you in a condescending kind of way. Her tests are very tricky more appropriate for the graduate level not general chemistry. Good-luck if you want an A!
She is a great teacher!!! She encourage student to learn hard. and she is very kind and helpfull. If you do not understand, her office hours will help you alot.
This teacher has a HORRIBLE attitude. Although she is open to help, she is very rude, discouraging, and will talk to you as if you were extremely dumb. She has no patience so it's hard to ask her for help at all. She takes longer on easy subjects(like things you should've learned in chem15) and then rushes through the harder subjects near the end.
i Will not recommend this teacher at all,she assumes you already know the material and she just reviewing..I usually get A's in science but i had to drop this class, becouse the test were extremly hard and no ammount of preparation was ever enough, she would test chapters that were not covered. If you want a descent grade do not take her
Makes chem unnecessarily harder than it is and harder than required making you do all the work and learn yourself
I was looking forward to learn chem, but she will not help and she wants you to do bad
She really wants her students to succeed and does what she can to push them forward. She knows the materials and answers all questions. She also has lots of office hours to help students.
She is super nice, sociable, and helpful. She talks with students as a friend and willing to make the class fun. I'm taking chem 12A and will recommend her to everybody.
hard class. makes things more complicated than should be. don't recommend her.
doesn't focus on the main concepts, tests us on things that are not important and are not in the book. terrible. will not be taking her again. she makes me hate chemistry with a passion
Horrible, she honestly will roll her eyes if you ask her a question, has no patience.. wouldn't recommend her at all.. and she uses profanity.
O chem is a difficult subject and Dr. Kim will push you as hard as she can; however, she cares very much about each one of her students and will do anything to help them succeed. I have never seen a professor this devoted to her students! She is an absolutely wonderful professor
OChem is hard in general, but Dr. Kim really tries to help you understand. She doesn't really expect a lot out of you and she gives you a lot of chances to pass, you just really need to put effort into it. Regardless of the subject, she's amazing. She's passionate and she knows that she's talking about. One of the best I've ever taken!
This was the worst class I've ever had. Professor Nguyen is really mean and she roles her eyes when you ask her questions and she makes you feel stupid. Midterms are super hard and the average is always around 50%. Don't take this class if you don't have to.
Great professor ever. She makes class interesting. She is fun too. My major is biology, but now I want to change my major to chemistry. Her lecture is really helpful to understand GenChem too. She does review GenChem and chem12A for students who take her chem12B only, so no one misses any point. Generally, Ochem is hard, but she makes it easy.
Dr. Kim is very informative. Her lectures are interesting and will be on the midterms, so don't miss class. She's very fair and understanding. She trusts her students to do well and know what to do (so she's a bit strict sometimes). She's actually very sweet and encouraging. She really cares about her students' feedbacks and progress! Ochem was fun
Her tests are hard, very tricky (be aware). She really just wants to prepare you to pass the ACS. I took her word for it, and yes, the ACS was very tricky. She curves, gives tons of extra credits, and test corrections. She's tricky but she doesn't want to punish you, so she'll really help you get back up. She's a great instructor, just work hard!
I'm getting an A in this class so this is not out of revenge. At least not for her ridiculously inconsistent grading. She is very unclear with her expectations and is often angry because you cant read her mind. Highly neurotic and known to lash out at students for asking reasonable questions. Unrealistic expectations, ie. new topics week of final.
Cons the test is really confusing. Sometimes you have to learn everything by yourself to do the homework if she forgets to teach a section from the book but it will not be on the test. Bad attitude when she's stress. Pros Her way of teaching is the best! Give out lots of extra c. Reply to your email super fast! Sometimes she can be super sweet.
If I could describe Dr. Nguyen, the word would be Uptight. For some reason, she made us attend her zoom lectures with our camera and microphone turned on. I did not like how my privacy, or lack thereof, was constantly violated. I didnt learn from her lectures and the tests were over everyones heads. Oh yeah, she also proctors us taking exams.
Dr. Kim is an amazing professor!!!! I appreciate that she sets additional learning time in lab for topics students struggle in. There are 3 exams and 1 final exam with 2-3 quizzes. Exams & quizzes can be tricky, but if you truly studied the material then this is no problem. She's preparing you for university level courses, so expect to put in work!
Dr. Kim is very caring and knowledgeable. She is always available to help students understand the materials via canvas inbox or zoom meetings. She makes time to schedule review sections before exams if everyone has questions. Take good notes, do and review assignments, ask questions, read and look at molecules carefully, you will get A. Best prof!
Even though SJCC is my local community college, I went out of my way to enroll myself in another community college to take organic chemistry II there. Kims lectures are way too confusing, I found it easier to just read the textbook (that she made us buy). The tests asked weird questions that used concepts not taught in class.
I just got finished with this class for spring semester and I just want to say I do NOT recommend that you take this class. Her grading is the work and she will give you a 2.75/3 on an assignment but won't tell you what it is that you did wrong and will just put ?. The exams and homework have information that we never went over.
Professor Nguyen is a nice and caring teacher. She knows her chemistry but to be honest, she's not that great at explaining it sometimes. You will have to do a lot of work outside of class to fully understand the material. The tests and labs are relatively hard, but as long as you put the time in outside of class you will do fine.
Understable lectures, but confusing tests & exams on the "essay" section. There are no meet-ups with the professor to get extra help since she's really busy with other classes. Your best bet is to study with other students whether you don't like talking with them or not. If you want to just pass, do the HW & Labwork while try to put effort in test
There are 3 quizzes and 3 exams for 12B. Ask questions, do well on lab assignments, and make sure to understand her lectures (which I think are pretty clear). Also, do join a group and work together to achieve that A grade! And yes, she asked to turn on cameras but it's to create that engaging class atmosphere which is lacking during COVID times.
All I can say is NO. I could not recommend this Professor any less. If she is your only choice I suggest waiting to take this class till the next semester. Yes, it is THAT bad. She is extremely rude, not understanding, and very childish. I have never experienced this in my life and I have taken classes at 4 different colleges. RUN!!!!!!
never had to drop out of a class because of a professor. I had gotten very sick, showed her a doctor's note. For the safety test, I asked if there was a way to take it online so that when I come back I won't have to miss any labs but she said no and that required not to miss any labs. She's no help at all, she can't explain very well when lecture
Never met a professor that knows how to teach so little. She expects you to know content she doesn’t teach or mention will be necessary. She doesn’t know how to use canvas at all. Grading is unclear and erratic. Completely useless for help. Answers questions wrong but talks to us as if we’re stupid for having the wrong info yet she gave to us
AWFUL experience ! Do yourself a favor and take anyone but her! EXTREMELY RUDE!!
THE WORST! There was only 8 people in our class and by the end of semester only 4 left! HORRIBLE !
RUN RUN RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get ready for emotional damage with this women. EXTREMELY childish and mean
Rude, tough grader class is set up for failure! If she is your only option wait till next semester !
Horrible !!!!!!! She is a witch :(
Pass on her!
Evil
Scared of it
Avoid taking her class at all costs. She is extremely rude unhelpful and egoistic. She makes you feel stupid every day. I had to drop the class even though it was in my last semester and I really needed it for transferring yet I emailed the school I applied to and risked my admission just because she is THAT TERRIBLE!!!!
Professor Kim Nguyen is the best professor I have ever. She draws and writes on the board, making her lectures easy to understand. She helps students to write good recommendation letters for scholarships and UC applications. Thanks to her now Im going to UC Berkeley as a Chemistry major and working in the lab.
Horrible
Please do yourself a favor and NOT take this class. I HIGHLY recommend, if you can, take it next semester with a different professor. Previously chemistry with another teacher but dropped out due to sickness, and this class made me realize the difference in having a great professor and a horrible one. If you have to, I wish you the best.
You can only miss one day of class. She was extremely rude and difficult. Assigned a ton of homework and would get angry when you had a question for her. She treats you as below her and expects you to know everything, including the material, how to write lab reports, and more. I am an A student and ended up dropping the class because it was so bad.
I really liked her teaching method, she is blunt, straight to the point. There were certain times it may have felt that there was no room for mistakes, which made the course a bit difficult at times. If you don't mind that, then you should be good. Also read the modules before class so when you go to lecture it's like a refresher.
I would encourage you take a different professor for chem if you are able to. She is extremely rude and condescending. Asking for help is pointless because she'll ask “I don't understand what is so confusing about this” Entire class failed the first exam because the exam is nothing like what she teaches. stay away!!!
Chemistry is a difficult subject, but it is also easy if you try to learn it. You need to prepare for class including pre-lap and come to class on time. She is serious, but with a good heart, just asking her whatever you don't understand. Again, Chemistry is not easy :)) same as Math, review readings and videos that she prepared to understand.
Chemistry is a difficult subject, but it is also easy if you learn it carefully. You need to prepare for class including pre-lap, do homework, and come to class on time. Professor prepared readings and videos for us to understand the concepts. She looks serious but with a kind heart, just asking whatever you don't understand.
She gave our class many opportunities to improve our grades. If you ask a question, she is always ready to answer it. She has helped me a lot in gaining knowledge in Chemistry.
If you miss a class, you will get behind! Please dont take her it will ruin your gpa. She is very condescending. Save your gpa. Just saying.
LAB IS HORRENDOUS NEVER EVERRRRRR TAKE HER. She isnt considerate and thinks you know everything.
One of the best professors I've had! I was a bit nervous to take this class due to all the bad ratings but it's literally the opposite, professor K is super nice and easy to approach. Super easy assignments weekly include lab/ pre lab, discussion post, reflection for module, and hw quiz you get 2 tries on. You won't regret taking her she's awesome!
She can be good at giving attitude to every student that have a question. She tells us that we should know what we need to do but she has been doing labs for years so don't know what is her problem. . I had a perfect GPA until I took this class. Please don't waste your time and get another professor who actually cares and is patient.
Okay as long as you put in the work, show up, and participate you'll be fine. Attend zoom meetings if you can they are super helpful. Labs are easy for the most part just remember to do your pre- lab and it will be easy.
Extremely difficult professor, she's a tough grader all around. She will make you feel dumb for asking questions and picks favorites in class. She has admitted out loud that certain students were her favorite. I wish she gave her students a bit more grace since it' s general chemistry, she would teach things that are covered in 32B when it's 32A
I personally feel like she has potential in teaching, but giving anyone who asks or does get the lab portion the first time, she will give attitude. I try to be positive when I would come to class but honestly I would have so much anxiety and feel like I am not smart enough. If the class is needed, take it with another professor!
Prof K taught me more than my other Chem courses. Take notes, read your chapters before class, do the hmwk; she really gives an awesome foundation of knowledge but be brisk. Fast passed class, don't take it personal + note card allowed for exams. Go to office hours, she is fantastic in person or 1 on 1. I learned so much for my next steps.
