Might actually be the worst professor ever. Information provided often contradictory with the text or with other classes. Basically reads off her power points and bores you to death. Oh, and about 6 too many guest lecturers.
terrible. lectures and text gave contradictory information. lectures lacked explination and examples. exams seemed a complete surprise as they had many question not covered in the lectures.prof insulted the police force then invited officers to speak.
Best teacher I have ever had (and I have had many)
If you write down her overheads (all she teaches from, but does not post) and make yourself the allowed cheat sheet, it's great :) She was really nice and helpful when I spoke to her after classes :)
She's unorganized. The class was interesting though. She's a relatively easy prof. As long as you go to the lectures, you'll do fine. I didn't even read the text. Too many guest lectures though!
Kim is very interesting and engaging as a lecturer. Her notes are clear and fairly thorough and she answers questions really well. Doesn't post her notes, but it forces you to go to class. I found her to be very helpful and entertaining.
Her notes make what is already a boring topic that much more interesting because they are so clear and efficient. The cheat sheet is awesome as well!
a little disorganized, but this is understandable. Could expand a little more on the notes given in class. The PPT notes are easy to follow and nicely put together. The exams are easier than most. Has a funny sense of humour. But basically reads off the PPT notes. Has knowledge in the field.
worst prof ever. unorganized, contradicts the text. lacks in explanation. unsympathetic to the plight of students. bad mouths own kids on camera. doesnt listen or respond to students comments in class discussions. tests material not covered in class. exam questions often convoluded. worst prof ever.
Anyone who has rated this prof in a negative way obviously is doing so because they failed the course. This prof is organized, clear, funny, smart and really SEXY!
How many police officers can she bring in instead of giving lectures? Hypocritically, she devotes an almost equal amount of time insulting the capability of police officers in general, and on camera asks the class not to mention this fact while they volunteer their time to her course. DULL.
What is wrong with the people who wrote before me.. Kim is funny and easygoing. She honestly knows what she's talking about ( except for genetics) the midterm is hard and she doesn't give out notes on the web which is a dowwner but it's an alright course.. really
This teacher made what had the potential for being a nightmare course, clear, fun and rewarding. I have had her for 3 courses and I will try to get her as much as I can. She is kind, caring, smart, and organized. Get her if you can!
What can I say - awesome teacher in all aspects and not bad to look at either. Kudos to Kim!
u want a great grade, take her class..shes damn easy!! I wish I had her, seriously, for all my psyc classes
This prof DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT!!!! She's made major mistakes in teaching very basic concepts and has screwed up the foundation for a very important class for anyone wanting to go anywhere in psychology. Good if you want an easy A, but BAD if you'd actually like to learn!!
Extremely disorganized, has no idea what she is talking about, she just reads off the slides and thinks her jokes are funny. Easy class though.
Organized, clear, concise, caring, funny, interesting, smart, helpful, overall simply perfect. The best prof I've ever had and I've had many. We could use more like her

very unclear what she wanted on exam
Overall, despite the opinion of others, O'Niel was a great prof. She made time to work with students who were having difficulty, and showed a genuin interest in helping students understand the material and work on a better final grade.
I very much liked her.
This professor doesn't know the material she teaches. She always reads off her slides that they come straight from the text book, nothing else to add or clarify.
Tests VERY easy... Helpful and takes time to look over exams... will change marks if points are valid
wasn't very well informed.
You could just read the text and skip the lectures. She doesn't have any knowledge of the subject matter beyond the textbook.
Simple, clear lectures. Easy exams. Was helpful to me.
Terrible! The worst, most unknowledgeable prof ever. She refuses to give out slides ahead of time because she reads them to the class with large gaps of silence so you can copy them off the overhead.
To me its obvious that Kim, as cool as she is, doesn't like teaching - the exams are easy and the material is straightforward.. but you won't get passion and enthusiasm out of this prof
very easy to listen to, easy to understand as well.
Very good prof, just go by the slides and do your background reading in the book and you can get an easy A, helpful as well.
Summer 05: Of 86 students, just 5 scored 85%+; only 1 got 90+. Great for inept students since O'Neil spoon feeds complete, albeit slightly chaotic notes that should net you 75-85%. Her style narrows the gap between the 'haves' and the 'have-nots'. Approachable & friendly, but lacking in field-related experience and expertise; comes across as naive.
To me, Kim did a good job making a very dry subject bearable. She often ended class 10-20 minutes early. Her exams were very fair; an easy A if you watched every lecture. Also, the allowed cheat sheet helped. I never once read the textbook, and I still got an A+ on the final. Would definitely consider taking another one of her classes.
Provided lecture slides before class making it very easy to follow and capture all relevant information. Most of the time I didn't need to elaborate on the slides, all the information was there. Easy exams!
Pretty slow moving class. A lot of review of the text.
She is a really great prof! Her lectures are easy to follow and her exams are very fair.
Kim is a great prof!! she is helpful and remember how chaotic it is being students so she is fair teacher...nothing wild on the exam. her lectures are interesting and has good slides...great prof..take developmental psych with her!!!!
Loved her class. Great notes, well-thought out exams and great pace and class discussions (just for fun, not mandatory!)
Very sloppy, even in appearance. For midterm, included a whole chapter not yet studied! Although she gave 3 marks to everyone to compensate, she awarded chance, not knowledge. Class is boring, a lot of wasted time waiting for students to answer questions and so on. Don't take her class...
Multiple choice exams sound good, but she doesn't test actual knowledge of material, instead, asks many questions about random facts mentioned somewhere in the text. Wasn't always in office during office hours. Short answer/essay exam better suited for the material! Wastes a lot of lecture time with in-class discussions. Take with a different prof!
Just like all the other bad comments... exams did not reflect what was taken up in class or even what was in the text! She took random points from the text and made them into exam questions. Very disappointing class..
This course was borderline ridiculous. Her lectures were useless and contradicted the text. She is a very lazy and deceptive prof.
Meh... pretty much sums her up. Exams are pretty easy, but she's and extremely boring and terrible professor. Gets confused, and can't really teach what she's trying to get across.
If you can read (the text, not her 'notes') you can get an A in this class. You will also have to deal with a Prof who has the most minimal knowledge of her department I have ever seen. She confuses her own material all the time, doesn't have a basic understanding of genetics and puts the wrong material on tests.

Great, Great, Great
She is super nice, never keeps you for a long class, and marks fairly on assignments. Her tests are somewhat hard, but her classes are interesting. She knows what she is talking about! Very smart lady!
Not the easiest prof, but do the work and you will get a good mark
Nice person but clearly has no knowledge about psychology. It's very difficult to learn from and enjoy classes from her because she lacks knowledge and enthusiasm. What Kim lacks in those areas, she makes up for by letting students out earlier.
So dull and useless. She took interesting information and made it so boring. She LACKS ANY knowledge and enthustiasm. Essentially she just reads out of text book- Therefore good for exams but no point in going to class. Also - shes not very helpful during office hours and comes off as incredibly LAZY!!!
I had a good time in both of the classes I took with Kim and I would take a class with her again. She is very effective at making things clear and concise and her exams were very straightforward if you did your part. She is also approachable and knowledgeable which is nice to find in a prof!
3505-Class I was most looking forward to. she ruined it. i had to meet with her re 4 exams (2 classes) & was able to show errors in her mc answers for 5+ questions. she tested on things not covered that we were expected to know from other sources. only 3 A+ in my class of over 130 (2400)
Doesn't know anything. Doesn't make her own exams, she just copies the exam copy with the book, and also uses the teachers notes that come with the book itself. NO POINT whatsoever to come to her class. just read the book thoroughly, ie front to back and memorize it, and you'll pass.
Worst prof I have ever had at Carleton. She knows nothing about Research methods! If you really want to stump her ask her about percentiles...and watch her make a fool of herself. Had to retake the class and got a A of course with another Prof (onw who knows what shes taking about) waste of time and money....
Very coherent, always do well on her exams. She explains everything thoroughly to make sure you completely understand. Heavily txt book based.
I really don't know what the qualifications to become a professor at Carleton, but I can tell you that they are pretty low if Kim got hired. Her entire course is based on the text. It takes her less than 5 mins to create her exams from the textbank the accompanies the text- worst prof-if you like reading the text and not coming to class- take her!!
WORST TEACHER EVER. She had no idea what was going on. Instead of teaching, she ended up just asking the class what they knew or asking the class to give examples. She takes forever to do any marking (even though its almost all multiple choice). I did not learn a thing from her.
terrbible terrible prof. She should be teaching at the high school level....not university...lacks knowledge about her subject area..very unhelpful and boring!!!! Do not take 2001 with kim...
She makes the material 10 times harder than it has to be...but her material is a lot easier than what is expected in other classes. She is very good on answering any questions. If there is a PASS for her class, you should really go.
Totally agree!!!!! WORST PROFF EVER!!!!! So unhelpful out of class and knows NOTHING about the topic she teaches. Should be teaching high school level. Inconsistent with marking. For example she marked 3 questions wrong on the exam even though the textbook said they were clearly correct!!! So follow her lectures and not the textbook if you want A+
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, WORST TEACHER IMAGINABLE, absolutely shameful, what a joke this woman is, pathetic, I guarantee you will get a poor mark in this class whether you know the content or not, the worse at carleton that I've taken so far
She is very clear, no trick questions, do the readings, read the lecture notes, you'll do fine, she is not out to get you
Took Children's Dev with her. Getting an A+ is next to impossible. The exams are unnecessarily difficult, study your tail off and you might get in the A range, if you're lucky. She should start using a webct discussion board, like most other psyc profs do. Hard class, take it if you're up for the challenge.
I thought the class was pretty straight forward and the prof made it as simple as she could have. There were some random questions with ambiguous answers on the exams, but overall they were pretty fair. My only concern is that she didn't really go into detail about much, so some lectures were a little dry. Overall, good prof.
Awesome teacher
the worst psych prof I had at Carleton...just really really bad, not much more to say than really avoid her if you can.
I don't know why somebody warned me not to take her class because I didn't find anything bad about her. She's a great teacher and there were no surprises on her mid term and final! Lectures were fair and interesting! People who attended classes seemed to like her. There were no disruptions or complaints in class. Why the bad comments here?
Seriously, her class isnt bad, but her teaching style is rather boring
She's good. I'd take another class with her.

OMG, I can't believe anyone actu ally writes negative stuff about this prof. probably just failed and blame her. She is fabulous and that's for a statistics course! Could not get better -take her courses
textbook is not needed for the class, just attend class and listen. sometimes she goes on tangents but generally she's fairly to the point and always lets you leave class early. i really enjoyed her class.
Excellent professor. I never cared much for developmental psych, but class was nonetheless extremely interesting.
I found her to be intelligent and quite interesting. She is really good at discussions and how she replies to students' questions/comments. Just a little bit boring from time to time but that's tolerable.
Clear and helpful. Always let the class out early, and usually had notes up on WebCT before class, though usually a couple hours before class (summer course might have been why). Gave sample questions for review that appeared on the exam, and had quizzes for bonus credit.
Awesome prof. Fair exams, good notes ahead of class, gets class participation and nice clear voice. I knew little about forensic when I first took class. I now may continue in this field.
Her voice was clear and she was easy to understand. She sounded knowledgeable when answering questions and seemed to care about her students. She gave two in-class bonus quizzes to go with two videos. Questions have been raised by others regarding the fairness/clarity of exam questions - I should have gone to review it, but didn't have time.
Absolutely terrible. I could explain why every multiple choice answer was wrong, and then give the right answer.. for every single question. Apparently this is a common thing. As a warning: in all of my classes I have at least 95%, this class? 80%. If you care at all about your GPA, go to Dr. Motz, you actually get credit for what you do.
She is a decent prof. And to the comment below, though you may know the answer to every single question Chris Motz does not have his Phd and hence is not a Dr.
I agree with the girl who said her multiple choice questions are confusing and pretty much WRONG, I'm pretty sure the final exam had about 50 questions out of 74 that were extremely confusing and I could explain how they were all wrong as well ,so I would say take her courses with caution, she comes off great but her midterms are CONFUSING
Very nice. Mid term and final all multiple choice. Fairly easy make sure you read questions over a couple times. Do the practice exams, a lot of these questions are used. Study her slides no real need for the text book, although she does mention to read the text on a few occasions for more information DO THIS there will be exam questions on that.
Her tests were confusing . She purposely designs the exams so that people fail... Look out
Prof O'Neil has good energy, interesting, well-spoken. Exams are all Multiple choice though and you need to read the book. Very approachable.
I had her last year and I have her next semester for a class... don't understand why there are so many mean comments on here! I thought she was great! Taught the information well, tests were fair. and as for the chris motz comment, I had him first semester for psyc 1001 last year.. and got a B+.. with kim oneil i got an A. Her tests were fairer

Shes a great proff! Very clear and easy to understand, very good with explaining what you need to know for the midterms and final. All midterms and exam was Not cumulative, which is very nice of her. She actually made it a fun class to go to. In class 'activities' were easy. Make sure you get the full 4% in SONA, it bumped my grade from A- to an A.
I have nothing against her as a person (she's pretty funny!), but I found her midterm and exam to be exceptionally difficult when compared to other professors. If you have the option, sign up for Matthew Sorley's first-year psych course ;-)
This was a pretty easy class, everything's multiple choice and non-cumulative. Her tests are fair and pretty straightforward. Do SONA, I did it in the 1st 2 weeks then didn't have to worry about it all year, also, go to the review session, there were at least 8-10 questions from it on the final. (Had her for 1001 and switched to get her again)
One of the best profs I've had at Carleton so far. She keeps the lectures very interesting. As with all first year psych courses, exams are all multiple choice and non-cumulative. Her review classes are extremely helpful for the midterms and finals, and the 2 in class activities are a great way to boost your mark. Overall a very fair prof.
The best prof I have had outside of business classes hands down. Attend classes, read the book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (took two summer classes, looking for fall and winter classes with her!)
Amazing prof!! So clear, interesting and fair. All assignments are easy and exams are extremely reasonable! Taken her twice and would take her again
Took Kim in both 1001 and 1002. She was so good during 1001 I wait-listed her 1002 course into the 2nd week of university while having another [less amazing] prof interim. Her unit-by-unit teaching and 3-4 unit exams made things very easy to keep up with and the knowledge staying fresh. Definitely recommend Kim to anyone going into Psych!
Very easy prof. You could literally pass this class without opening the textbook. Everything in the textbook just supports her notes. Although if you want to get a high grade read the textbook. Mark was compiled of 2 midterms, a final, and 2 in class assignments. The exams were a joke especially the final and the assignments were laughable.
good prof
I really enjoyed this class. She is a great lecturer, some questions on the exam can be a bit tricky, but by reading the textbook and studying the slides you can get a good mark. She is very interactive during class, and very rarely boring. I liked Prof O'Neil's class a lot.
I loved taking Child Development with her. She is a very interactive teacher and makes her class hard to get bored in. She makes jokes and shes really funny. I wish there was more classes taught by her that I could take! Loved her and would recommend her to anyone:)
one of my favourite profs! explains the important stuff very clearly.. her slides outline everything on the exams. in-class q&a assignment (10%), 2 m/c midterms (20%, 30%) and a final m/c exam (40%)
She could never explain her points very well- at times she was contradicting herself. If I would ask her a question about a question on a mock test, she would answer very vaguely and i wouldn't understand. Be careful: a lot of her tests have two right answers. Did well in the course but was not a fan of her teaching style at all.
Great teacher - always upbeat, knows her stuff. Textbook use is pretty much mandatory to do well in the class. Exams are very tricky, sometimes vague questions. Poor communication outside the class as well. Otherwise, I enjoyed her as a teacher and would take a class with her again.
Questions on tests are all examples of "real-life" situations. All these social science students cry saying she was too hard...Not at all. Just go to class and read the textbook and you'll get a good mark, you're in Uni afterall... Great prof!
She makes it seem like the course is a lot easier then it is. Then she tricks you on the exams when theres more then one right answer worded stupidly to trick you and double negative questions. I HATE THAT SO MUCH. Pretty unfair if you ask me especially for a 1st year course. But other then her useless teaching style shes actually really nice.
Awesome prof, definitely knows what she is talking about and is very good at explaining herself. She answers questions well and definitely recommends to read through the textbook. Her exams are hard if you don't study properly, but if you know how to study for multiple choice you will do fine.
Meh professor. Her lectures can be dry and she often will spend a really long time on a few slides. She's very friendly and approachable. She will often go off topic and when students are asking questions/making comments that are so ridiculously off topic she doesn't bother stopping the comments so the lectures often turn out to be a waste of time
Boring prof. Tough to stay awake in her 8:30 class. Never opened the textbook once and finished with a B-. Getting a bonus 4% on SONA participation was only marks we got besides midterm & final (50% each). Mark went up 10% after midterm despite not attending a single class after the midterm.
good prof but exams questions are very random and out of the blue.
I actually thought she was an amazing prof. I'd love to have her again. She'd ask students for real life examples (that happened to them) pertaining what we were learning. I loved her overall style of teaching. She's very interesting and makes everything very clear.
Exam questions are ridiculous - very ambiguous and subjective to ones interpretation i.e. depending on how you interpret questions you may get a lot of wrong answers. I felt very confident with my midterm (expecting mid 90s) - ended up getting a horrible mark because of the poorly worded questions. Other than that she is a nice enough person.
I had Kim for both introduction to research methods for psychology and developmental psychology. I loved her in both classes. She knows her stuff, her exams are easy and she gives assignments and midterms to even marks out :)
She is very nice, explains the content quite well.. BUT, her exams are SO RANDOM - extremely convoluted, wordy, don't make sense.. I studied A LOT for both exams (worth 50% each), and found then wayyy too hard and out of left field. OVERALL DO NOT TAKE!! she gives you the confidence to do well then you're shocked writing the exam.. do not take!
Kim is very nice, and gives in-depth explanations on the class material. The class can become a little boring though, seeing as she doesn't venture far from her slides and that some of the information/concepts are common sense. Also, her midterm and exam questions are very specific. Make sure you study!
Loved Kim! I found her lectures to be straight forward, she always told you what she expected you to know. Make sure you know your concepts well as her exam questions are situation based. Other than that easy exam, easy class. Highly recommend her
loved her! She made Psych interesting. you have to make sure your on top of things like readings and notes cuz she mentions stuff in the next lecture. Overall shes a good prof.
Kim is very easy and interesting to listen to. She makes psyc less boring and is actually pretty funny. One of my only 3 hour lectures I didn't mind attending and it was on Monday at 830 am (that's a big deal). Only complaint is the exams are harder then you expect, you have to study hard!
Good prof. Very fair with midterms, assignments, and final. Spends time after class answering questions from students. Engages with class.
Her exam questions are ridiculous... very misleading. Never again kim o'neil
She makes the material seem very easy to know and then you get to her exams. I always thought I did well on them but ended up doing worse than what I thought. I think they are really misleading. However I will say that she is very accommodating to students' needs.
O'Neil is an okay professor you just have to put in the work. However, her exams are DEADLY !
First midterm: not so good, Final exam: 90%, she was very goofy and taught what needed to be taught. She was not boring I actually liked going to class - she always ended early too. If she didn't talk about it in lecture it wasn't on exam. Lectures are necessary because she elaborates so much
She was a funny prof but the exams were difficult
probably the easiest class you could ever take. i don't even like psych and this was such an easy course. 50% mid term and a 50% final all multiple choice. she always threw sex jokes into the lectures and tried to keep everyone engaged in the course at 8:30 for 3 hours on monday morning. favourite prof so far
Funniest prof I've ever had, very detailed and fun lectures, usually great for letting the class end early
Kim is a great prof. She makes her classes fun and interesting and always throws a joke here and there. HOWEVER, the tests I found were not easy. You leave the exam thinking you did great, only to get crushed by the grade you later receive. Her exams are multiple choice but but the outcome of the grades made me barely study for the exams anymore.
I loved kim! i was really nervous about the course but she was funny and very helpful and easy to understand
I thought Kim was an okay professor. I found her lectures quite boring at times, and found myself not paying attention. The material was extremely boring though so that could have been why. The exams were very hard, and my only good marks came through in all of the other assignments we did. She did always end class early, so that was nice.
She's hilarious and a great speaker. Lot's of reading and memorization, other than that, can't complain.
If you are good at memorizing definitions and concepts this class will be a breeze. However, most people, including myself, are not so great at that. The midterm was a killer, I thought i did pretty well and then I got it back and it was a C- worth 40% of my grade. i studied really hard for the final exam and did well because of the bonus 4%
She was a very good professor. The midterm was quite difficult with not many students getting over an 80% but the final exam was great! Her lectures are great and she is such a funny prof, attendance is very important because she explains more in the lecture than what is on the slides. The assignment was simple as well and overall a great class!
Professor O'Neil was excellent at answering questions and helping me clarify terms. She would be happy to talk and give time to address many aspects of the course and she brings in many outside sources and applies it to course material.
Great prof. Her lectures were engaging and funny. I was never bored. She explains everything very clearly and engages the class is good discussions. Her exams were definitely tricky so make sure you read carefully. A lot of scenario questions too. Overall awesome prof - highly recommended
Her presentations jump around a lot. Not very easy to follow.
I've never actually spoken to Kim one-on-one, but she seems very approachable. I was stuck in a 3 hour lecture and it was brutal, but she made the most of it by cracking jokes and getting us to participate. The exams are hard (multiple choice always is) but she did have an easy bonus assignment for us in class to help our grades. Pay attention!
The lectures have tons of people in them and she did her best to handle the large ampitheatre of 300+ students. She's engaging and knows what she is talking about. She's a little more laid back but likes to stay on track. Would recommend classes with her!
just read the textbook and if you have trouble understanding she has the clearest explanations she basically tells you whats on the exam
She is so fun and very funny. Lectures are jam packed with information (usually 2 chp per lecture, mind you this was a summer course and therefore condensed). Imparts information clearly and effectively, I'd definitely recommend her and I'd love to take a class with her again.
Organized lectures, clear criteria for tests, cares about the students
Great teacher, seems to know her stuff, but her exams are brutally hard. I would recommend taking notes on what she says in class because it shows up on the exams, even if the material isn't in the textbook.
Great prof! Lectures are organized well and very engaging. She's got a lot of personality and explains the material very well. Her exams often have trick questions so make sure to read through it carefully.
Classes are engaging, she explains things well
Marked on 3 things: reading assignment in class where she gives question and you pull answer word for word from article, midterm (multiple choice), Final (multiple choice).
Awesome professor. Clearly has an amazing understanding of all things psychology. The course is fairly simple. One in-class activity, multiple choice midterm, and a multiple choice final. All of the answers for the tests are taken from what was taught in the lectures. Reading the textbook helped but might not be needed depending on the person.
Kim is an awesome teacher. She engages with her students and makes the class completely comprehensible. The midterm/exam questions do come from the textbook, so it's recommended you get it, even if it isn't the newest edition, the previous edition works just as well. Exam review is basically the answers. Attend class & read slides, you'll pass!
Great prof, go to class re read notes before exam and come out with an A!
Professor O'Neil was a great lecturer. She was fair in providing information, and making it clear what would appear on the midterm and exam. Textbook was very important to follow along with information. She made the information easy to understand. She also had a lot of great tips for taking midterms/exams which was useful as a first year.
Made lectures interesting, clarified information when necessary and made sure you got easy marks where you could. Great prof overall! As long as you read the textbook you will get a good grade.
Kim is awesome. Textbook is a must for this class! Go to class because she gives additional information that are not on the slides. Has an in class assignment that is a gaurenteed mark booster.
Great lecturer, knows material well and can answer any of your questions. Grading is straight forward, and decently fair.
Kim is a good prof. She is not the greatest prof I've ever had in psych but her lectures aren't too boring and she is very clear about midterm and exam material. Her slides are very detailed so missing a class is not a big deal, provided you read the textbook at least. If you go to class, no need for the textbook really. Study hard and get an A.
Great class!
One of the best profs I have had all semester. Psyc is THE hardest course I have ever taken. If you go to class and make notes on what she says in addition to the slides, it will really benefit you on the midterm and exam.
The prof is tough. but the big issue is with the material a lot of information to study .. getting a good mark in this course is impossible
midterm worth 40% and final worth 45%, so its probably a good idea to study as you go. Cramming wont work
Make sure you study REALLY hard for her exams if you want an A- or above. She asks a lot of extremely specific questions in her exams. Pay very close attention to everything you read in the book . Also look at her lecture slides. That's very important too. They may have small bits of information which you may not have noticed while reading the book
Make sure to read textbook thoroughly.
Restates the slides usually, but adds important info when needed. Also gives lots of hints and points to areas to read in the textbook, so you don't have to read as much. Good teacher.
The in class assignment is considered a "grade booster" but only if you're good at analyzing things, Multiple choice midterm and final. Good anecdotes throughout her lectures, make the 3 hours a little less terrible. Lots of videos but the content from videos isn't tested so it breaks up class as well.
Worst prof I've ever had at Carleton. The textbook used is dumbed down so much that elementary school kids could understand. Dumbs down actual terminology to a layman term (fear of big words?). I learned more about research methods from my other classes then i ever would have in this class. Take it if you need an easy A without using your brain
The average of both her classes was 60% (Midterm). She also proceeded to say that if we had done all we possibly could to study but still performed poorly, it might be test anxiety - interesting. Found her hard to follow as she goes back and forth in her slides.
I hated that class. Its generally really easy and we have all learned it, however.. during her slides, she would skip ahead and then come back frequently. I also found that she would over explain something, or explain it differently and it would confuse the class even more. Definitely read the textbook.
She is a nice person but not the best prof. Her lectures were very boring but she had good power point slides. The class average was very low and gave us no room for improvement. Her exams are hard!
Gives a large list of things to study for the final, not even a quarter of them were on. Class is boring, however she does post the slides at least. Seems nice but wouldnt recommend.
Shes a very caring and nice professor. Her lectures were purely based on the textbook, so if you showed up to all lectures reading the text book wasnt even really necessary. Shes engaging and overall very knowledgable.
Not a big fan of Professor O'Neil's teaching style. Very friendly, kind and funny woman but not a great teacher. I felt as if we had an In-Class activity (which is basically a quiz) every class. The activities were always done before she lectured on the topic. Her lectures were straight from textbook, not helpful.
Took an intro class with her at MSVU. Nice person, not a great teacher. She gave no feedback on assignments, difficult grader, lectures were heavy and directly from the text. Overall, made an already confusing topic even more confusing.
I took her 2100 social psychology class and it was pretty easy! All you had to do was attend class. The book isn't mandatory. I only skimmed through the book sometimes and got an A+ ! Definitely would recommend taking PSYC 2100 with her!
Average class, average teacher. If you like to read the textbook you don't really need to attend class. She likes to give some facts/stats in class that aren't in the textbook but are in the exam. She clearly knows her stuff she's just not very organized.
I did psyc1001 with her and she really simplified the material so the textbook was practically useless because it went into way more depth than she did and we didn't need to know it. she had 2 midterm (both pretty straighforward and mc), an in class assignment (it's the equivalent of a g5 reading comprehension so easy marks) and a hard mc exam
Perfect blend of fun/nice and knowledgeable/professional. A great prof, highly recommend. Marking scheme is pretty typical for PSYC courses, but the fact that it's not 100% tests is a nice change.
Kim is so caring about her students and ensures that the material is understood in order to succeed. If you attend her lectures, pay attention and take notes, you'll have a very positive experience. She teaches from the textbook as well but still make sure to read!
Lots of quizzes, but easy enough to pass them. The teacher gives fair marking parameters to work with. You can attain an average grade between 60%-80%. The prof is easy-going. The bad reviews are not true. If you don't study then maybe you have a chance of getting a poor grade. Just listen in class and you will pass.
Love her classes Took cultural Pysch and social pysch with her. She really cares for her students. Shell take the extra time to explain concepts to you. The bad reviews are from lazy people who couldnt go to class or put in the effort
I loved her class! Kim is a great professor and she is extremely passionate about what she does and you can tell in her lectures. She is engaging and takes the time to explain each assignment and exam in order to help you succeed. I hope I get the chance to take another one of her classes!!!
She seems very nice, yet was by far the most impersonal class. Half the time it didn't feel like I was in the class. 30% final, lecture heavy, fewer assignments but worth more. Pretty straightforward if you put in the work weekly. Explains things thoroughly and clearly. Overall a good prof.
Pretty material heavy course so get ready to read/watch a lot every week. That being said, O'Neil is a great lecturer and the course was structured very generously, with the entire mark being based on 2 open book assignments and 2 open book multiple choice tests. Prof was also really easy to reach and often sent motivational messages to students.
kim barely engaged with her students. her lectures were very long and boring however they were organized. few assignments worth a lot... unfortunately you wont enjoy psych with her so do consider taking it with another prof.
Solid prof, she's very nice and passionate about what she teaches. I found her lectures a little vague and short, all the answers to her midterm/assignments are in the readings so as long as you do the readings an A is easily achievable. I stopped watching the lectures and just did the readings and I got an A, no need to waste time doing both.
An easy A IF you read the textbook. Near the end I didn't bother watching the lectures because a lot of what was on the midterms and exam was from the textbook chapters and not mentioned in the lectures. I liked the way the course was laid out and didn't find it heavy at all. A good course overall
(Asynchronous Online). Gotta be honest - she is lazy. I could tell her lectures were reused from 2 semesters ago, and had errors that should have warranted re-recording them. Many grammatical mistakes in assignments: unprofessional. As long as you can read the textbook you will excel. YOU DO NOT NEED MINDTAP. Save some money and get a used book :)
Kim does not connect with here students on any level! going into her class i was excited but this feeling did not last long. kim used old content to teach her class along with all the assignments and test had numerous errors. My final exam she even messed up the start date leaving all her students in a panic, which she never apologized for.
About 8 lectures, which were interesting and well thought out. You will need to need the textbook to get a good grade on the three tests, but the information in the textbook is worth learning in a general sense. No clear feedback on the assignments. Still enjoyed this class and would recommend it.
The course itself was okay. The professor however did not make any effort to make students feel like they were in a real class. All classes were recorded years ago and uploaded weekly. TAs and the prof paid almost zero attention to the discussion forums. Just read the notes and textbook and hope for the best.
This class is minimal and online. There are two assignments, two midterms and a final exam. It is work at your own place. The prof is fine, a little dull but voice is engaging enough where you're not falling asleep. They are very good at responding to questions via email. I recommend using quizlet to study for tests, lots of overlapping questions.
The best professor you can take, she explains easily, her test is easy, no assignments, very chilled. She teaches like a mother. 150% recommend Prof O'Neil
Dr. O'Neil is an incredible prof. She delivers engaging lectures that don't feel impossible to sit through. I found her grading expectations were clear and reasonable.
Always looked forward to the lectures. One of my favorite professors.
dont take the class if she teaching.
Be ready to not understand anything on the exam. There were 2 assignments (very easy), 2 midterms, and a final exam. The 2 midterms were not so bad, however, only a fraction of the questions were in the textbook. Everything on the exam did not make sense and was not recognizable in the textbook. Just pray to that you even do decent.
I received a zero because it was not in a pdf format.. which I understand it said that in the instructions but I really thought it was in a pdf format I emailed her she was very rude in her response ,I sent her another email to ask if their was possibly a way for me to get partial marks she then never answered. Which I feel is very inconsiderate.
Kim O'Neil is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. She's an amazing lecturer, turns her lectures into open discussions. You can tell she is passionate about teaching and wants her students to succeed. Her tests are all multiple choice, and questions are pulled straight from the textbook. If you can take a class with her, DO IT!
I found her class to be really enjoyable! The in class discussions were amazing! For this class if you put more in you'll get more out. That being said, if you know the material you won't have much trouble getting a good grade. Professor O'Neil also shared some cool tips for students in class which I really valued.
Although she's very nice in person, it's clear she's not relevant in her field anymore and the material is dated. The lectures have very little to do with test material, basically take good notes in the text and you'll be fine. She's a textbook teacher recycling old material.
Took this class in the summer, and recorded lectures are 3 years old, you can tell minimal effort is put into the course, lots of spelling mistakes in the lectures notes, duplicate questions on assignments and midterms. It just makes me think she is super lazy.
It wasn't a very difficult class. The lectures uploaded on to brightspace were made 3 years ago, and she never interacted with the students through the class discussion page. The lectures on their own were pretty useless; the majority of the test questions were textbook-based. She seems nice, but doesn't put much effort into teaching the course.
The lectures were incredibly short and outdated...be prepared to read the textbook to learn anything. The tests are incredibly annoying as there are plenty of wrong questions and even one with a derogatory and offensive term (no idea if this got fixed). The feedback on assignments is unhelpful, and the professor isn't active in online discussions.
Grading was very different depending on the TAs. No clear answer to how to contact TAs or who to contact; if you contacted the wrong one they were not willing to help you. The prof used a derogatory term in the midterm and defended using it to the class. Overall, an extremely stressful class because you don't know how your grades will be.
Please avoid this prof if possible. The material learned was heavy and we were expected to read a whole textbook of 13 chapters within the semester at a fairly unreasonable speed The grading was poor on both her end and the TA's end. Exams were formatted terribly (missing words, use of the "R" word, etc). Get ready for Math & unfairness.
Just not a good prof. Content was generally easy to understand but she really made it more complicated than it had to be. Hard to contact for help, outdated and offensive term on a midterm, and asked questions on exams about material that wasn't covered in class. Not incredibly hard to do well, but a rather unenjoyable experience all told.
A lot of people complain that the recordings from 2020, I wasn't bothered by that as the material is starter. I do wish it wasn't a screen recording looks unprofessional for a uni course. Assignments are tedious, but recorded lectures were good. Expect 2 - assignments 2- midterm exams the final all take home.
O'Neil is extremely lazy, there is no better way to put it. Very difficult to reach over email, plays lectures recorded years ago. Her notes are unhelpful. The assignments are a joke and the midterm/exams are MCQ. You could do this course and get an A+ off of general knowledge. GPA booster for sure but otherwise a complete waste of your time.
The lectures were decent, but this class was a bit lackluster overall. The assignments were tedious, and the professor seemed to put minimal effort into the course. However, the textbook was helpful, and Unstuckstudy was a useful study tool.
If you ask questions/send emails to the TAs or the Prof, do not take this class. I sent emails regarding an assignment and they would literally answer after the assignment was due. I would obviously lose marks for those sections I had questions for, and she did not even care after coming forward with the issue. She does not care about students.
This class was fine. Typical online class (doable/average); self learning, reading, keeping up with lectures and assignments. The Prof herself is not great. Lacking in student aid. Measures for testing the final test, worth the MOST, were unfair in my opinion and left a bad taste in my mouth about this professor. Wouldn't take her again.
Textbook teacher. The exam and midterm were very specific questions from the textbook (e.g. what were the result from this particular study). The class is fine but her lectures were recorded ages ago which I find very lazy. Wouldn't take her again.
The class itself was fine, but the prof left much to be desired. She emphasizes reading the textbook, but based the final on questions that had nothing to do with psychology to test if you read the material, which I believe is unfair. The prof was not approachable, and was very lazy with her coursework. Would not take if she was teaching.
Kim's class relied heavily on the textbook, with little supplemental instruction. There were only two exams, placing a lot of pressure on limited assessments. Communication was poor, and lectures often felt outdated or disconnected. Overall, the course lacked support, and I would prefer not to take another class with this instructor.
If you want a low-effort A/A+, take a Kim O'Neil class. However, if you want quality education, look elsewhere. Lectures are monotone and from years ago. I stopped watching them after the 1st midterm after I realized her exams are 100% textbook based.
Heavy grading distribution, lots of textbook work, she just read her slides, but after the second module her videos would cut out or skip, and ones that didn't had inaudible volume even when I had my volume set to 100. Numerous other students complained about the same issue, and no reply or fix was given. Pretty lazy work on her end.
