best prof at Queen's..too bad teaching first years
Good class, very knowledgable man. Has made offensive remarks in class.
Amazing professor! Very informative and interesting.
Good Guy
Nossal is great, and every lecture sounds like a prepared speech.
Smart dude but thoroughly intimidating
nossal can be entertaining and gives very fair exams.. he intimidates the heck out of me though
Definitely the smartest man I've ever met. He knows everything... and the eyebrows! The eyebrows are great!
Great prof, very interesting, informative, clear, and he's very smart and always prepared.
This guy knows a lot, but not how to teach it. However, no one can pay attention to anything he says because of the obvious sexual appeal of the eyebrows.
Showing off with big words is not clever, it's just good at losing people's attention. Definition after definition. *yawn*
Nossal rules makes me want to live and go to pols 110x!
Very funny
BORING! He prepares a speech for each class and speaks in paragraph format (listen to him!). He uses big words so people think he is smart. Just get on with the lecture!
not a very nice man, very self-righteous and pretentious....fair enough prof though, I've had much worse

We are the founders of the Nossal Fan Club... smartest guy alive... greates prof alive... and people think he's smart because HE IS...
I made an interesting discovery: You can never go to Nossal's class, read the lectures once, and get in the top 2 % of the class marks. Not even his eyebrows could make me show up.
Fabulous professor. Extremely intelligent and well-spoken. Most of the people who don’t like him don’t care much about school.
Prof. Nossal was humorous in the beginning of the year, and stayed that way until the end. The problem is the class is late and it's hard to keep student's attentions at that time. Overall a good prof, only downpoint, he's a tad pretentious...
makes learning interesting. gets excited when you ask questions and although he can be an ass, has cool ideas.
Nothing good to say about Nossal. The guy picks his favourites and his enemies and marks accordingly.
You only wish you had thick, luxurious eyebrows like this man.Incredibly easy class if you are not braindead. I enjoy how he doesn't put up with the pompous blabermouths who populate the politics depts. To recap, idiots should avoid this class at all costs
Snooty, but honest. He is the embodiment of Jim Henson's Sam The Eagle.
Nossal makes intro to politics interesting, which in the heat of Dunning Auditorium from 7 to 9 at night is not an easy task. Willing to answer Good questions, but shoots down idiots. And what can I say.. the eyebrows ARE sexy.. hah
very interesting speaker. Makes material extremely interesting..demanding, wants you to keep up with him, also doesn't appreciate stupidity.great teacher however

Nossal is a genius. His dry British wit makes his Tuesday night class bearable-in fact, I look forward to it. I'm so glad I was put into his class instead of the 'A' option. The essay may have been more challenging, and the lectures more theoretical, but I think we are better off because of it.
He's pretentious, he's biased, and his attempts to make everyone laugh every once in a while by making references to profanity or marijuana are juvenile and superficial. I hate his teaching style, spending entire classes on simple definitions or an hour explaining an essay. Avoid at all costs.
Best Prof I've had in first year. Nossal or Noss-dawg as his close friends call him is the kind of guy you could spend all night listening to at a bar or something. He's easy to listen to and obviously knows what he's talking about. I highly recommend him and any courses he teaches.
Brilliant Prof. What can you say? The man is a genius. His lectures are easy to follow, he's a dynamic talker, always available for discussion, will help you with papers if you visit him during office hours. I recommend to anyone: take his class! sooo good!
Amazing prof. He's brilliant engaging, and extremely helpful. Will go out of his way to help you if you go to his office. Take every class you can with KRN.
Pretty good prof. His notes at lectures were great and exams were fair. TAs were not as helpful as they could have been with essay writing. Nossal is a good guy and a pretty effective prof as a whole but spends way too much time on meaningless topics by giving bizzare examples. A little bit overrated as a whole but still a decent lecturer
Nossal is an absolutely amazing prof. He's very clear about what he wants/doesn't want and is an extremely engaging speaker. Not to mention, the man knows his stuff. I would definitely take another course with Nossal if I had the chance. I love his eye brows!
Good man. Good course.

Very entusiastic and has wonderfully hilarious examples.
Very boring
GREAT prof...very funny and has amazing eyebrows ;) He is a great speaker and gives many examples I would definetly recommend at least one class with this man
class is awesome. good lectures, sometimes boring though. provides a different perspetive on political issues. cool eyebrows. wtf does he use to mak'em like that?
The eyebrows are the hottest things I have ever seen. I love his hilarious examples to keep up intrgued during class. Politics is awesome...

Fabulous. Interactive and engaging. tries to make dry topics interesting. fabulous speaker and immaculate presence.
He takes far too much time belabouring a point. The lectures are somewhat clear, but are usually full of examples that are common sense. He also works at a really slow pace. He assigns very little reading, and it is rarely referred to. He gives tough assignments, but his tests are passable through simply attending the lectures. Does post slide outlines online.
I LOVE PROF NOSS! basically he's hilarious & intelligent and he sends the most hilarious emails... anyone in POLS 110 in 05-06 knows what I mean. The 1st semester was kind of dry as far as material but he is a relaly animated and enjoyable prof & the second semester was increadibly interesting and stimulating.. I can't wait to take another class!
he's a verbose ass who has nothing better to do than to go on AVUNCULAR PARADOXICAL EXCURSES...hooray for nothing!!! it was the most boring course ever and we didn't learn anything even remotely pertinant to anything. The only thing this course did was to make me second guess anything i thought i did know about political theory...poopy all around.
something that could be said in MODERN ENGLISH was made so much more confusing by his insane use of the thesaurus. i didnt really know where the course was going becuase it seemed his lectures were all over the place.
if you want to fall asleep every single lecture or get really excited when someone makes a noise or when someones playing an awesome game on their computer in front of you, this class is for you. The tutorials were awesome (amazing!) and the essays were pretty amazing as well. but the lectures were soooooooo boring. he spoke. so. slowly. ah.
Very intimidating, but very interesting. Typical professor, but so funny about things. The course I fear the most, but probably will love the most.
Professor Kim Nossal has issues with his ego, which transfers greatly to his lectures. He is a very intelligent person, but he definitely needs to check out his head size, and needs to be a lot more approachable than he is - especially as the head of the department. I find him to be a **** man who loves his status far too much!
Although many don't appreciate him, Nossal is one of the best pols profs around. He will teach you what you need to know for pols 110. He's also a celebrity in Canadian Foreign Policy so he knows what he's talking about (and cool to say you know him). He's a realist though, so you might not agree with his opinions.
While I wouldn't always call him "helpful" or "clear", Nossal is a fantastic prof. He is a tremendous speaker, extremely intelligent, and funny guy. Not a lot of work but what work there is takes a lot of work - and he reads *every single essay* in a class of nearly 700. Maybe a bit high-and-mighty but still a tremendous instructor.
Best Prof I've had in my short time at this school. I'm continuing in politics cause of him...and his eyebrows

Not sure what all of the "Nossal Hype" is about... a good prof (as many are) and intelligent man (as would be expected). However, found Nossal to be motivated by an odd interest in developing a strong student "fan club", trying too hard to be the "cool prof" - if you show you like him, you gain membership into his club.
Everyone loves nossal, and for good reason. He's engaging, articulate, respectable, good natured, and makes me want to go to class. He's the perfect prof to introduce first years to politics. I was really impressed by the fact that he looks at every paper, and there are hundreds of students in first year politics. You are in good hands with him.
I found nossal fun to listen to, and that's why people like him. But his lessons are redundant and long-winded, he clearly tries to use jargon, pausing just to find a larger word to use. You can learn more from 10 mins with a focused text than 60 in his class. I did well and continued in POLS but found he's too much hype not enough insight.
Great class overall. Nossal is a great professor, and a fantastic individual. I did receive a bad mark from an essay (which he personally marked in a class of 800), but after going to speak to him, not only did I learn why (which was understandable), but he also gave me opportunities to improve. Don't be shy to ask him for help!
Repeated effort to engage students w/reference to drug use and sex becomes predictable and boring after the first few weeks of class. Meeting during his office hours is equally uncomfortable - obviously likes to try to impress students with his vocabulary skills, and his tiresome tales of his student days of years gone by.
Passionate yet aloof, knowledgeable yet vague.
This guy is a walking encyclopedia
Dr. Nossal teaches in a clear and consise fashion, and is a very likable guy all around.
Though the topic of class itself was not all that great, this man managed to make it bearable. Textbook is not mandatory, though he will tell you that it is. He actually took the time to read EVERY essay in a class of 800, and is extremely articulate.
really good prof for a first year course. makes some awesome jokes and of course there are the eyebrows. lectures are interesting and grading is quite fair
A charming, logical (and archetypal) professor, KRN provides a well-structured and insightful overview of political science. Exams and assignments were fair. He also held teaching assistants accountable for their actions by reviewing the marks given for both main papers. To be taught a first-year course by the head of the POLS department is a joy.
Really great! I loved the class.
hilarious
I love and hate this man. My marks were mediocre, but his lectures were amazing. He is so legendary, I'm sad that he's retiring after this year!
AWESOME!
very intelligent, lectures are actually interesting although content is very dry and vague. very happy to have had him as a prof, although he is very intimidating
Great prof, really enjoyed his teaching techniques, and eyebrows!
Hilarious and crude
Nossal is the MAN! Although he is extremely cocky, his lectures are awesome and he really, truly knows his stuff. Workload and exams were very fair. Extremely intimidating but definitely one of the best speakers I have ever heard. Definitely going to take his 3rd year Canadian foreign policy course.
I love politics but taking his class and speaking to him almost made me not continue in it. His jokes get old fast and you soon realize he is a lot of smoke and not much meat. He may be smart but his intelligence is less useful to the students due to his obsession with his own image and cockyness. His classes are boring, vague and unnecessarily lon
Funny man. Intimidating. Great lecturer.
Nossal seems intimidatingly intelligent. Entertaining style. But make no mistake, if you desire a mark in the 80 range you will have to work for it
Professor Nossal is a pleasure to be educated by. The clarity with which he presents ideas and concepts is exceptional. He's an influential scholar in the field, and though admittedly intimidating is quite helpful, but in a way that makes you help yourself. You will have to work for you mark.
One of the most interesting teachers i've ever had. Very intelligent and witty. People get angry with him as a teacher when they expect to be able to cram the entire course the day before a paper/exam/test- or when they don't do the reading(s) and think he is "vague"
I absolutely love Nossal. He has a wealth of knowledge and is obviously a very smart man. Challenges his students, and you definitely need to go to lectures in order to do well. Interesting material, clear lecturing style and always available for assistance in office hours when you need him. Take a course with him before you graduate.
Nossal is a great professor. He is really knowledgable in his field and clearly has a genuin interest in teaching. He's definitely not the easiest marker, but a fair marker nonetheless.
Nossal is an incredible prof. He truly cares about his students and the quality of their educations. Extremely intimidating in first year (had him for 110) - in upper years you come to see he is really a great guy. Always helpful, understanding, and fair. You MUST go to lectures though, he'll notice if you're absent.
Nossal is a beauty. He's hilarious and brilliant. I never missed a class because he made them so enjoyable
Hands down, the most knowledgeable professor I have come across. I would have to say that his is my favourite class.
Nossal is undisputedly the best lecturer I've had through my first two years at Queen's. Very interesting to listen to and taught you how to think, not just what to think. Tough yet fair, he's an old-school prof that expects you to come to class, take good notes, work hard, and not take any shortcuts.
Best prof in the Poli Sci Department
man loves words
A really nice professor who is willing to answer students' questions and reply email fast. He is always funny and brilliant. Lectures are really important since the mid-term basically test a lot on in-class lecture instead of readings. No homework and only one essay need to write.
The man's an elderly australian firecracker........10/10 highly recommended
He's a high quality lad.
Decent prof. good times.
The guy is a true hero. He's probably the most engaging guy I've ever listened to, all of his lectures are structured similarly to that of a story. He provides good examples and context for all the material he covers and encourages class participation in a way that everyone could feel comfortable contributing. He's really funny as well.
Lectures were pretty clear and he used good examples to explain concepts but he's a bit vague and slow. He has great eyebrows and is overall a cool guy. Midterms and exams are entirely lecture based but the textbook isn't a hard read. Not a bad prof overall.
Amazing lectures, good times.
Great prof, always available to talk to you and replies to emails really quickly. Uses detailed powerpoint which helps to take notes, but does not put them up, attendance needed. Does not have a textbook but there are reading that you need to do, best to do them weekly. He has great eyebrows and is a great lecturer makes going to class worth it.
Lectures were hit and miss. Sometimes you'll have a good laugh, sometimes you'll be deriving a word from its latin or greek meaning - as brutal as it sounds
A fair professor who will answer your emails quickly. His lectures are captivating and effectively build upon each other as the semester progresses. Easy to do well if you attend every lecture.
Nossal is a top-tier prof. Great lecturer and really funny at times. When I first took his class I thought none of his slides made any sense and felt I wasn't learning anything, but come time to write my essay and exam I found I had actually learned a lot! I'm super pumped to take his third year course!
I love Kim
Dr. Nossal is quirky, humorous, and routinely replies to emails. It might feel like he's rambling at times, but that "rambling" is a part of a strict outline that Dr. Nossal follows -- point, example, explain, explain. These 10+ essay-style lectures clearly illustrate Dr. Nossal's points, leaving it difficult to be confused. 10/10 top lad
Nossal is an incredible specimen who is so articulate and well-spoken, yet absolutely hilarious. He loves what he teaches. He doesn't use onQ though, so going to the lectures realllly helps.
First off, my man Kimmy is a legend. 11/10 would be his apostle. Doesnt upload slides on OnQ so going to class is helpful. Plus, hes a fun guy so that doesnt hurt. He gave me a birthday shoutout too. What a G.
Great prof that made all classes very interesting!
KIM NOSSAL IS A LEGEND. NO WORDS FOR THIS MAN.
kim nossal is an amazing prof. He is clearly very intelligent and his lectures are never dull. 10/10 would take again
Dr. Nossal is easily my favourite prof at Queen's. His lectures, while long, are very informative. His exams are really fair and the marking isn't crazy hard because he knows his content is pretty subjective. GO TO CLASS! He does not post any lecture materials online! Seriously the nicest, funniest prof! I'll take anything he teaches, he's awesome.
I found Professor Nossal's lectures to be very hit or miss. Sometimes it would be a lecture that I was engaged in, sometimes he would rant for what felt like hours. He was difficult to understand at times, but he used a lot of examples which was helpful during the exam. Lectures are a choice, but he doesn't use OnQ so if you miss it, you miss a lot
Best prof at Queen's by far. His lectures are basically long essays and he uses prescient examples to back up his points. Definitely gonna take whatever course he teaches in the future.
