The worst prof I have had in my university career. She will screw u over if u don't go to class. U will know it if she does not like u. Very Fake Prof. She is in it for the money, not for the students. Trust ME!!!!!
Excellent teacher! Perhaps "u" should get off your butt and go to class.
I went to class and found it unhelpful.
Very interesting prof
Very Helpful and Interesting prof
I absolutely adored her in micro but when i took biotech- i didnt know what happened. She seemed to take on a very fake persona and she was just not helpful and favoured alot of students.

Best class I had throughout the semester. Always found the topics interesting and understandable.
Very nice, cool, and fun prof. Likes to joke around and laugh. Really tries to get the class involved. Material is hard, she's a pretty good lecturer. Extremely helpful and very knowledgable. Great prof overall.
She's an excellent professor. Her lectures are clear. She's funny, witty and makes the class very interesting to sit through. But you really do have to attend all over her classes. Overall, she's a fair prof.
God help all taking cell bio! The only hope is that the course is going to improve by using abetter textbook. Attending class makes little difference, because to do good on a test you need to know WAY beyond that.
shes out to get her students.......prides herself in being difficult
TOTALLY agree

Oh my god...what a hard professor. Attending class or taking notes wont do you any good. She teached you something during lectures, and on final exams you wonder that the hell ,or from what chapter these questions are on. I once went to her and i told her about how hard the final was, she simply said" I had difficulty answering that myself muhaha!!
there's no point going to lecture or reading the book. i went to all of the classes and know the book inside out and still don't know what she's asking for.
lectures r complete waste! I reccon. sitting @ home and reading book my self. However, try to cover up your grades in lab. component otherwise you're definitely screwed in exam. Make sure u test ur self with the end of the chapter questions cuz most of her short answer questions come from end of the chapter questions! I did petty gud in dis class!
An infinite degree of studying and attentiveness amounts to nothing more than an exercise in futility. This professor seems only content to accept responses that mirror her answer key, which I believe fundamentally opposes the spirit of higher education.
I would say, if she's teaching any course, dont take it until you find someone else taches the same course. this is because there is no point of taking a course with her. her course will lower you GPA because she just doesnt like the idea of students getting good marks. she never gives good marks on lab reports especially. although she seems a nice
never have her as a prof...THE WORST EVER!!! her pride is failing people so you can imagine!!! PS:WORST prof at ryerson.
She'd tough but man is she a wonderful teacher. Don't let these write up's scare you, she's MARVELOUS!
She SUCKSS!!!!!! She just reads off the slides... Don't waste your time and read the text on your own time!
She talks waaaay too quickly. There is hardly enough time to even read the notes, forget writing them. She also ignores my emails, and can be rude.
Amazing. If you cannot keep up, then you will die, survival of the smartest.
When people rate Dr. Gilbride, most rate out of prejudice. If Biology was a course that was fairly easy to get an A+ out of, be prepared to be technical and thorough in your explanation now, and you'll succeed. She is the iron fist of Biology but only because she wants you to learn. Don't assume she's a monster because she's actually quite nice.
she is the absolute worse !! she is useless in class, and she wants the students to be like machines that memorize EVERY WORD in the textbook without the use of the brain! which will make you study for hours just to keep up without really understanding anything. if you want to HATE biology take her class
She knows her material well and expect students to do the same. I think she's a great lecturer and approachable. She is tough, but with good study pattern and method, it is not impossible to get A+
Fairly decent prof. Exams were massively long though, so watch out for that.
Extremely hard prof. You might be better of reading the text for this course. She focuses a lot on cellular level chemistry as opposed to biology. I swore that is why I took micro. If you don't need to take it in a hurry, put it off.
does not know how to teach.
Reads everything off powerpoints and those powerpoints are literally cut and pasted from the study guide. Horrible, i barely go to her classes because you end up having to read yourself anyways in that class. Does not know how to teach. You can tell that she knows her stuff but based on what she teaches her tests are some next level thing
She doesnt know how to teach and solely reads the powerpoint presentations in her lecture which are based only on the textbook. Her exams are extremely LONGGGGGGGGGGG.
terrible teacher. She will confuse you if you do go to class.. Just read the textbook.
Good prof but hard tests ... class avg on midterms hovers at ~60%
Reads directly off slides, which are taken directly from the textbook. She really doesn't care about her students, she's more concerned about her research. Although, you don't have a choice - she's the only biology prof for first year!
Professor Gilbride is one of the most passionate, caring and intelligent teachers I have ever come across. I finished my undergrad at a different University and with full confidence can rate her as 5+/5. She has thorough exams, but answers all questions in a clear, concise and educated manner. She loves Biology and because of her, so do I.
Enjoys failing students. Read your textbook and read it well.
Amazing prof with high standards. Work hard and you'll do well.
she is honestly the worst. her classes are so boring n i would always fall asleep. at the i just stopped going and started reading the textbook alone at home !
ok and easy to understand but fast a bit
Is a very nice person but a horrible teacher. She over simplifies and rushes through the material in class but then blindsides you with questions out of left field on tests. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS DO THE COURSE IN THE SUMMER TERM, this was a suggestion from one of the Biology faculty members who agreed with my description of her methods.
Dr. Gilbride is not a bad professor, I think she goes into good detail about what she teaches. However, her exams are beyond what you learn in class. I don't Recommend NOT taking her class because they usually ahve 3 prof, the othet two are extraordinary.
She is okkkk
Prof Gilbride KNOWS her stuff...yes, she is TOUGHh, and I mean REALLY TOUGH, BUT (& this ia a BIG BUT), if you work hard, you can get an A grade. The issue is this is a 1st yr course and students are NOT used to studying...WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD! If you study, its great, if not, ANY material is difficult!
She knows her stuff, but is REALLY hard. You gotta work really hard in microbiology for an A. Midterm/final were relatively straight forward with not many tricks. HOWEVER, she does expect you to know very suttle details about specific topics that you WOULDN'T think to study! Overall, knowledgeable but could improve in overall easiness.
Her tests are hard! Try to avoid her!
Explains the material very well.
Shes is pretty good! Knows her stuff and is very enthusiastic but hard as well.
I really did not like her method of teaching!!! only reads off slides and you can see in her eyes and attitude she does not want to be there!!! she does not welcome students and really have no tolerance for any questions... her tests are hard because she forgets what she taught in class was smth elese !!!!~~~
Very good professor, extremely helpful, exam will be easy as long as you study the book. Attendance is not mandatory.
She gets a kick out of making things hard for her students. Had a horrible experience with her and had to appeal my final mark. She changed her marking scheme after the course ended and I called her out on it because I had the original course outline she had posted. Received the mark I deserved but writing an appeal took away my Christmas break.
Talks super fast, seemed confused while explaining Z scheme. Just read textbook at home, its the safest bet! No point in lectures when the stuff is going to be from textbook!
She's an ok professor. A little sarcastic sometimes. I took a first year class with her and didn't find her as hard as everyone here said she is.
I didn't find her to be as bad of a prof as many students claim she is. She's great at explaining things, and her notes are straight out of the textbook. Study hard for her midterms though, many students fail her short-answer section.
Good prof, uses great examples to help understand material. Was very monotone and quite boring to listen to. Exams were also quite hard and needed a lot of studying.
Boring as hell! I was more confused when i went to the lectures than when i tried to study on my own using the textbook.
Generally pretty easy to understand but went through material really quickly. Made a lot of analogies which were pretty helpful. Notes posted online. Don't need textbook.
I really enjoyed Dr. Gilbride's class through the Chang school. She is very approachable and helpful with questions. Most of the material is review from grade 12. Big on definitions and processes so if you pay attention to her notes and the process images, you shouldn't have a problem. Midterm was fair, the lab was easy, final was harder though.
Lectures are not helpful.. study the book
Her lecture slides are based from the textbook. Her slides were fill in the blank. Her midterm and final consist of both short answer and multiple choice. M/C wasn't that hard at all. S/A you need to know in depth, but she barely tells you what to study. Also, she was behind her material this year. However, overall it was pretty good for me.
She got behind and crammed at the end, but crammed materials were given as bonus questions. Her M/C is not hard, and short answers are not difficult, but detail oriented. There are alot of chapters to cover, and that's why she crammed at the end. Otherwise, she is a good professor.
Get yourself a textbook and get to reading. Assigns a ridiculous amount of assignments. If you are taking biology and other courses - get ready to do only biology and nothing else. Complicates simple matter. Obviously doesn't have good basics because those that do - they make art out of it - not a confusing puzzle.
Easy course material, awful professor. I wish she cared about her students the way she cares about herself and her image. Lots of readings and the course is very definition based. Exams are tough.
Extremely condescending, unorganized slides, and teaches wrong information, followed by excusing herself, saying "she hadn't had her tea yet." Midterm was not fair and too long for the amount of time given. Put a sub-question under a question that was unrelated and sneered when she took it up with the class. That's her type of personality. BEWARE.
Worst prof, unorganized, marking is unfair, gives some things on test she has never done... AVOID HER
I'm in the art program i didn't sign up for this, reddit told me it was an easy a
In my opinion, one of the worst biology profs at Ryerson. Extremely hard midterm and final. I had her for both Microbiology and Molecular Biology. She gives a couple group quizzes to try and "boost" the marks up, however they too are quite hard. Lectures are boring and she can be rude when asking questions during office hours. Don't take her class!
Even though I got away with A+, I won't take her course again ever. Reading 20 chapters twice was not just fun... Last year students got really lucky with Charlotte teaching the course.
I had Gilbride for 143, 151 and 307. While she does give challenging tests, they're only challenging because she focuses on minute details. Her grading scheme is ambiguous at best. As for her rude personality, I think the people are over reacting. She isn't rude during office hours, but she does expect you to attempt a question before you ask her.
She is a solid professor, her lectures go hand in hand with the textbook. Her multiple choice can be quite over-barring, especially since her final exam is weighted heavily (45%). She is also very picky with short answers. I highly recommend reading the textbook chapters since her lecture slides can sometimes be bare bones.
This course is very lecture heavy. We covered around 14 chapters with 8 of them on the final and 8 of them on the midterm (2 chapters from the midterm were covered again on the final). I found the lectures boring and studied and made my own notes from the textbook thats the best thing to do. Group tests help ALOT! Overall the course was pretty good
She can be a little disorganized in her lecture notes and is extremely picky when it comes to the short answer questions on the midterm and final. She doesn't give clear guidelines on what kinds of topics/questions to expect on tests. The course is content heavy & the end can be rushed. Studying the textbook and you can do good.
This course was lecture heavy! Go to every single class and review the notes after each lecture so you don't fall behind. Dr. Gilbride is a sweet lady. She's approachable and helps you out when you go to her for questions. The course breakdown is: 3 in-class group quizzes (30%), 1 midterm (25%) and final (45%).
She's a very helpful and caring professor. Attendance is highly recommended as her lecture notes have fill in the blanks. Overall, with good studying ethics and revising her lecture slides on a regular, her midterms and exams questions shouldn't come across as too difficult. Group tests are definitely a mark booster! Getting an A is achievable.
she is genuinely the worst professor at ryerson. If recommend that you avoid her. Her tests (and especially the final exam) are not good representations of the material learned in the course. I have had her twice now for two different courses and her exams were awful for both. she also doesnt know what she is talking about majority of the time.
She likes application based tests. She's always very specific for her short answers. If you don't write exactly what she wants you get a 0. She also does not tell you what to expect on the exam. Her lecture slides were filled with mistakes, which she did later correct. In the group test does not test you evenly on topics. Some not covered at all.
Dr. Gilbride's midterm and final exam were tough! The common complaint was that the material tested was not a good representation of what was taught in lecture. You can do well in the course but you definitely need to work hard for it.
Tests are definitely not a fair representation of what is taught. Few questions can be easy while the others are extremely tough and cannot be answered. She's a nice prof tho, but the course is entirely based on tests which does not represent what is being taught.
Tests differently than whats actually been taught. Group test structures were not accommodating - they test your grammar more than anything, and even then, if you have decent grammar its more likely that youll do worse.
She loves to test things that weren't covered in class. There was so much to test on but she decides to randomly do topics covered in Genetics. I don't understand her. Also a very tough short answer grader, she will take marks off for the smallest of mistakes. Her midterm average was 50% and she refused to adjust it...
Gilbride was such a great prof geared to my auditory way of learning, though her ppts may have just included pictures, her explanations proved a greater understanding of the concepts at hand, and allowed me to remember every word during the midterm and final! She gives many chances to bring your grade up with lab quizzes/ mastering and assignments!
Dr. Gilbride is an incredible lecturer; she provided analogies and was enthusiastic about the content. Midterm and final are not as difficult as everyone says - if you actually put in the effort, you'll be fine!
Two professors taught the course, Kimberly being the first one and we for sure missed her tons. The amount of info you have to read is not achievable in 1 week so be ready to read before that. However, her lectures were always clear, fun and straight to the point. Tends to explain the heavy parts with mnemonics and doesn't rush. Great bio teacher!
She's so sweet and funny! She talks with the class rather than lecturing, which helps you to remember a lot more! She doesn't post the blanks on her slides so it's pretty important to attend her lectures. The exams were fair and as long as you keep up on your readings, it's easy to do well. Make sure to study for lab quizzes! They're specific!
Dr. Gilbride is a pretty good lecturer in that if you enjoy biology, she will get you interested in the topics being discussed. Unfortunately, the midterms and finals contain many things from the textbook and not a lot from lectures. This would usually be fine, but she will draw from very specific and minute details from the textbook. not bad avoid
I absolutely love Dr. Gilbride. She is a great prof and her tests are fair. She keeps the class engaged by being positive and making jokes here and there. I will note that reading the textbook is a MUST because her tests have questions in the text but the main concepts are always emphasized and she gives hints on what's important during lectures.
I had her for 2 courses and shes just so unfair. Puts things on the tests that she never taught and got from a textbook we don't have access to! Her final exam had like 8 questions of things we never learned. I went to class and wrote down everything she said and did well but shes a terrible prof. Try taking someone else if you can but its doable.
Amazing lecture and fair final and midterm exam.
Best prof i have ever had .
She is a good lecturer but her exams are VERY hard. We had weekly quizzes each worth 10% of the overall mark and each mc question worths 1%! Midterms and the final were very difficult in my experience although I studied throughout the semester.
Great prof, she makes watching lectures enjoyable. She explains everything super well which made the quizzes easy. The tests had fair questions but were marked unnecessarily hard by the TA's.
Pretty much all you get are 5 quizzes biweekly worth 10% of your final grade. The finals are worth the rest (two misterms and one final). These quizzes are pretty hard if you dont study ofc. However, the content is okay, it is a lot to memorize tho ugh.
Dr. Gilbride is a really amazing lecturer, I purchased the textbook but barely used it. What she says in lectures is on the Midterms and Finals, so definitely pay attention and take good notes! One thing I will say, is about 15-20% of the compiled tests is application, which there really is no way to study for.
She honestly wasn't a bad lecturer and she seemed enthusiastic about the subject. However, she was very unprofessional and also refused to give feedback to students. Also doesn't listen to constructive criticism on how to help students. I am the type of student to put in the work and enjoy learning, but she sucked all enjoyment out of the course.
Lectures weren't bad, she's nice and will willingly go over tests with you if you reach out. But, her tests can be quite difficult. Lots of studying, make flash cards or something because she doesn't assign you homework questions.
She's a great prof, and she certainly knows her stuff. The midterms and exams were fair, but the grading can be hard.
I felt like she didn't know what was going on sometimes. I went to office hours a lot and she struggled to answer my questions. Her teaching style is okay but if you can supplement with the textbook or outside sources it will be helpful. I wish I had better advice but I never really figured out the formula for this course, just avoid if you can
Dr. Gilbride has bad attitude, disconnected with students her test and quizzes does not reflect what she teaches makes the course extra hard. stay from her
